De plus, Sade et Clark sont non seulement des résistants, car ils persistent dans leurs idées malgré les critiques virulentes,mais ils ont aussi laissé leur empreinte dans l’histoire. En effet, Sade est considéré aujourd’hui comme l’un des plusgrands écrivains révolutionnaires. Clark, à travers la photographie et le cinéma, a lui aussi réussi à laisser son empreintedans l’histoire, puisqu’il est considéré comme l’un des plus grands cinéastes de son siècle. En outre, tout comme Sade, il aouvert de nouvelles perspectives de réflexion sur le monde, en cherchant à enlever toutes les couches superficielles quinous empêchent de voir l’humain tel qu’il est. À travers ses films, il nous fait partager sa vision de l’histoire de la société,l’évolution de la sexualité et la bestialité en chacun de nous. Finalement, nous avons l’impression que l’être humainévolue à travers les siècles, mais Larry Clark nous montre que cette impression n’est en fait qu’une illusion.

De plus, Larry Clark utilise dans ses films la sensorialité optico-tactile. Il est vrai que dans « The smell of us » et « KenPark », le regard caméra n’est pas présent, mais le corps prend en quelque sorte sa place. En effet, le jeu des corps desadolescents devient une expression à part entière, leurs mouvements créant une fusion entre corps et cinéma.[7] C’estpour cela que le cinéma clarkien ne suit pas le modèle de l’archétype cinématographique, mais au contraire le détruit.Larry Clark crée donc une forme spécifique du corps filmique, dans laquelle il fait l’« apologie transfiguratrice del’adolescence ». Nous l’avons dit, les œuvres clarkiennes prennent comme prétexte la violence des images afin de pousserà la réflexion. En effet, l’image « pornographique » fait partie du concept cinématographique et elle n’est pas présentepour elle-même, contrairement au cinéma X, mais elle est là pour pousser le spectateur à la réflexion. L’image sexuelle esten quelque sorte utilisée comme allégorie d’un mal-être. Par exemple, Tate dans « Ken Park » est un adolescent atteint depsychonévrose, on s’en rend rapidement compte à travers son comportement. Clark ne fait que montrer ce que viventcertains adolescents, et à travers l’acte sexuel non simulé de Tate, le cinéaste pointe du doigt le mal-être que peut éprouverun adolescent atteint de psychonévrosité[8]. Par ailleurs, l’adulte, dans le cinéma clarkien, est toujours représenté commeun personnage défaillant, qui n’assume pas son rôle de parent et pis encore, qui est souvent malsain. Il est même untortionnaire de l’adolescent. On retrouve cette caractéristique dans « The smell of us » et dans « Ken Park », à travers lamère de Matt et le père de Peaches qui abusent de leurs enfants. Cependant, les relations entre adolescents sont plutôtcomplices, le trio uni sexuellement et amicalement qui clôt « Ken Park » en témoigne. Le sexe teen est encore très tabou,et beaucoup de réalisateurs se refusent à le filmer. Larry Clark est donc, nous l’avons compris, un pionner dans ledomaine. Certains considèrent ses réalisations comme iconoclastes « contre la mythologie américaine » [9]. De plus,l’image sexuelle est indésirable car elle est si imprégnée de violence qu’elle ne peut pas susciter d’excitation chez lespectateur. L’éros est brisé et son image profanée. Par ailleurs, les séquences de sexe sont interminables, tempsparticulièrement long durant lequel des détails incisifs blessent l’œil du spectateur. S’il décidait de détourner les yeux, sonouïe serait harcelée par les bruits de succions et de claquements de sexe qui rendent les scénarios encore plus dérangeants.Tel est le concept de l’optico-tactile, excéder l’image. De même, ces images sexuelles créent une césure sans transitiondans la représentation filmique, ce qui met mal à l’aise le spectateur qui ne s’était pas préparé à une telle agressionvisuelle et auditive. C’est en cela que le cinéma s’oppose à la perception contemplative traditionnelle. En réalité, lecinéma clarkien prend en otage le spectateur qui est alors forcé de regarder l’ « in-regardable », l’obligeant à réfléchir surce qu’il voit, lui faire réaliser que ce qu’il voit n’est pas purement fictif et qu’il y a une grande partie de réalité dans cettevision qui lui est si insupportable. En bref, Larry Clark veut manifester au monde ce qu’il refuse continuellement etéperdument de regarder[10].

La moralité au cinéma

Le sexe a toujours été tabou dans toutes les civilisations et à toutes les époques. Pourtant, la représentation du sexe estomniprésente depuis la nuit des temps. En effet, dans la Chine ancienne, il était très mal vu de montrer un pied féminin.Parcontre, on pouvait montrer une vulve. Dans l’Egypte ancienne, on acceptait le mariage consanguin et la pédérastie étaitconsidérée comme normale durant la Grèce antique. Dans les années 1950, les danseuses dans les cabarets pouvaientexhiber leurs fesses mais non leur pubis. Les tabous sont donc souvent encadrés par des règles absurdes dont on necomprend pas toujours les raisons. Cependant, il semble évident que les dérives telles que l’inceste soient interdites etpunis. Claude Lévi-Strauss s’est penché sur la question et il en a tiré la conclusion que l’interdiction de l’inceste marquaitle passage de l’homme sauvage à l’homme cultivé, c’est donc devenu une loi qui différencie l’homme de l’animal.L’inceste caractérise la règle originelle rendant l’homme civilisé. Cependant, comme tout interdit, l’inceste est transgresséet c’est justement ce que veut nous montrer Larry Clark. Finalement, la morale sert à cacher la transgression des interditset nous incite à faire comme si cela n’existait pas et par conséquent, à ne pas prendre en considération la détresse desvictimes. Si Larry Clark a voulu montrer tout ce que les personnages de Peaches et Matt ont vécu, ce n’est par simpleperversité, mais simplement pour nous faire prendre conscience de ce que d’autres vivent.[11]

L’homosexualité au cinéma

Depuis les années 1980, l’homosexualité fait de plus en plus son apparition au cinéma, notamment sur le thème de laprostitution. Plusieurs films tels que « Le Macadam Cowboy des années 90 » de John Schlesinger, racontant l’histoire dedeux homosexuels faisant des passes. L’un se considère réellement homosexuel et l’autre prétend qu’il fait ça uniquementpour l’argent. Sauf que, celui qui affirme son homosexualité tombe amoureux de l’autre[12]. Le scénario nous rappellecelui de « The smell of us ». Le thème de la prostitution peut être interprété comme une allégorie. En effet, ces deux filmsmettent en scène de jeunes hommes qui veulent se prouver qu’ils sont bien hétérosexuels, et qu’ils se prostituent àd’autres hommes uniquement pour l’argent. En refusant d’accepter leur identité, ils s’autodétruisent et détruisent lesautres peu à peu.

Comparaison du titre du film « The smell of us » et la chanson de

Nirvana « Smells like teen spirit »

On ne peut s’empêcher, en voyant le titre du film de Larry Clark « The smell of us » de faire le rapprochement avec lafameuse chanson de Nirvana. De plus, on retrouve exactement le même état d’esprit dans les deux créations : desadolescents perdus dans la société, qui ne savent que faire de leur vie et qui, pour toute occupation, s’autodétruisent.D’ailleurs, le refrain de Nirvana est ponctué par cette phrase « Comment-tu vas mal » nous rappelant l’état d’esprit danslequel Matt et JP se trouvent. En outre, la chanson se termine par la répétition du mot « dénégation », or Matt se trouvedans une véritable dénégation puisqu’il refuse le fait d’être vraiment homosexuel.

Conclusion

En conclusion, nous réalisons que nous vivons dans une société ultra-sexualisée mais qui n’est pas dénuée de morale.Cependant, cette morale ne se trouve pas forcément au bon endroit. En effet, la pornographie est de plus en plus acceptéebien qu’elle soit, elle aussi, de plus en plus décloisonnée. Pourtant, la pornographie est dénuée de toute réflexionintellectuelle et par conséquent, elle frappe moins notre esprit. Cependant, lorsqu’il s’agit d’un film d’auteur incluant lapornographie parcellaire et par ailleurs, l’obscène, nous le jugeons immoral. Pourquoi ? Tout simplement parce que lapornographie ne dénonce rien, elle fait partie intégrante du capitalisme. Or la pornographie parcellaire, en général, pointedu doigt les dérives de notre société, les dérives dont il est impossible d’ignorer l’existence. Certains cinéastes tels queLarry Clark rendent alors bien visible ce que nous refusons de voir et c’est sans doute le plus insupportable pour l’hommeque d’être forcé à regarder droit dans les yeux cette triste réalité qui contraste si violemment avec l’idée qu’il avait d’unesociété bien propre.
