Merfolk Welcome!

Hi everyone! Once again I am not jiving with the 'official' mermay prompt list. So this time, I decided to take matters into my own fins.

I have put together a list which includes some really neat sea creatures that I look forward to drawing as merfolk. Some of these are ones y'all might recognize, but I hope there are fishies on this list that are fun new discoveries!

I also invite whoever would like to participate to take on however much, or little of the challenge as they would like, as well. I would love to see other people's interpretations of these fishy friends 😍

The Jack Harkness test was about sex with aliens, of course, but I feel like the same principles of it apply to nonsexual romance. In other words, interspecies relationships are okay if both parties are fully sapient and consenting, and of similar age. If we can ship Nagisa and Honoka without making it weird, I don't see why Yuki x Mayu is different.

mostly a matter of curiosity as idk I want to do art fight this year, but I know art fight allows au versions of characters from pre-existing media, and I'm curious what the rules/etiquette are around characters from non-visual mediums where you had to make your own design? 'cus that's not an au, but it is your own design, but it's not exactly "visually distinct from the original" per se, because the original had no visuals from which to be distinct from?

I'm thinking of you laying there on the bed of a dimly lit room, in your flirty little skirt just waiting for someone to take you.

the really beautiful landscape/skyscape animation in makoto shinkai's works tends to be the big thing i see focused on and that is understandable and deserved like the weather and lighting effects are unREAL but i do think we should also appreciate how absolute insane the plotlines of his original movies get. at least two movies with in universe catastrophes with major ecological implications. the guns and explosions. theres that one movie i havent seen yet with the guy who turns into a chair (?)
