This time of year i like to focus on the LYMPHATIC system as a way to improve our ability to fight off those winter bugs! The first thing i do when i start to feel a scratchy throat...lymphatic drainage to the neck, face and armpits (i will show you in the next post). 💥Then i bump up my hydration, and take as many little movement breaks as i can throughout the day.💥 I remind myself to take a few deep belly breaths to mobilize the lymph in the abdominal area & then i make sure i find 5-10 minutes for a deep relaxation (usually with my legs up on the couch) followed by a solid night of SLEEP ...💥 Those are the things that support our LYMPHATIC system & remove the obstacles that make it challenging for our immune system to do its job! 💥This often ignored or forgotten system can help you to get through the winter & take better care of yourself! 😊 💥NOTICE how alot of these things are found in YOGA already?? Another bit of STABILIZATION work to add to your YOGA practice- this time working around the PELVIS building awareness & control: 💥hip joint hinge forward/back WITHOUT moving the pelvis from neutral - it helps to put the hands on the sides of the pelvis to make sure it stays still! 💥 be especially careful to keep the lower abs engaged when the leg goes back so the pelvis doesnt fall into anterior tilt 💥 then transition to a wide stance and keep the spine neutral- pivit the body to the side lifting the opposite leg for counter balance 👍 the SLOWER the BETTER!! The last key🔑🔓 component in the Yoga practice focusing on FEET = toe spreading in a half gomukasana 🐮🐄. This targets hip rotation and mobility that is tied to foot function AND gives us a perfect opportunity to wiggle the FINGERS 👋 between the toes 👣 to improve separation (abduction) of the toes. If there is one myth in yoga that I would like to dispell it is that yoga is about FLEXIBILITY - especially the current pattern of hyperflexibility being glorified, encouraged and coveted (i blame social media for alot of this👎👎) - because it LOOKS nice & eye catching 👀 and gets people likes- the problem is that when we stretch & STRETCH & stretch 💥 to make our body fit a specific "advanced" asana we forget the long term effect of forcing our joints to these extreme positions. I have seen this Over & OVER 💫 in the therapy clinic : lower back pain / hip arthritis/ rotator cuff tears 😢 from chronic instability after years of dance training/ gymnastics & now YOGA! Is that perfect instagram picture worth it?? Instead... Can we start to shift our FOCUS to working on FUNCTIONAL 💪 strength/stability/mobility and even more importantly INNER PROGRESS that will actually help you in your daily life??? Its the first full week of november & that = KUNDALINI week in YOGA FOCUS!!🙌 We have worked our way up through the energy system to the Aura.
