can you explain tlt lore to me because i (as someone who has never touched tlt) am very confused when i see ianthe (??) and harrowhark because isn’t harrowhark with the lobotomy ginger.. and then who is alecto. wtf

so this is the greatest ask i could hope to receive and i cant thank you enough for sending it 🙏 SO YES allow me to explain to you the anatomy of harrowhark's harem

(spoilers obvs, but i will go as light on spoilers as i can because everyone should read these books theyre insane and i love them. but if anyone is interested in a more spoiler heavy explanation lmk in the notes and i will be happy to provide)

for starters the basics of harrow and gideon's relationship: harrow is a necromancer, and gideon is her cavalier, aka like harrow's bodyguard/loyal knight. and they go to this competition with other necromancer/cavalier duos to become a lyctor, but for the sake of this post lyctor lore doesnt really matter dont worry about the lyctor thing right now

basically yes in book 1 (gt9) harrow and gideon (aka lobotomy ginger (which 💀 oh anon, the layers to this. THE LAYERS)) are certifiably insane about each other but are not technically, through physical or verbal confirmation, romantically involved with each other by the end of the book. but the writing on the wall is CLEAR.

gideon is not in book 2 (ht9) for reasons, and now harrow is essentially trapped in space with ianthe tridentarius, another necromancer who was also at the lyctor competition in book 1. ianthe is a weird freak about harrow (arent we all), and harrow thinks ianthe is gross and lame. but in a way she is also, like, at least an iota of a weird freak about ianthe, but she mostly thinks she's gross and lame. theyre kind of like reluctant coworkers bc they do collaborate on certain things (👀 THINGS) and they might share a kiss here or there

oh boy and then there's alecto, stay with me here. without getting too much into dominicus lore, what you have to understand is that for a shit ton of generations, harrow's family has been tasked with keeping this tomb (a locked tomb, even) shut forever, and they don't know what's inside but they know that god put something in there that can never escape. so naturally when harrow was like 9 or 10 years old, she snuck into that tomb and there she finds this chained up, frozen corpse of a smokeshow of a woman, and that's alecto. and little harrow can appreciate the value of a smokeshow of a woman so she lowkey falls in love with her. meaning that throughout all of that prior fucked up little love triangle, harrow is also thirsting over this dead woman she stumbled across years ago

there's enough weird nuances and details with all of these dynamics that i could go on and on for ages but this is a most basic understanding. again cant recommend reading the books enough if you like insane dynamics!!

Oh, and ESPECIALLY consider the fact that I got “the talk” when I was around their ages too. By the fucking school. 

THESE KIDS ARE ALLOWED TO KNOW WHAT SEX IS. Of course, its weird as fuck if they actually engage in it themselves, but also consider the fact that they have internet access. Surely they learned more than what they were originally taught.

That would never happen unless 7n7 is overprotective, and even then things WILL SLIP PAST HIM. 

Also, they all canonically have separate and (to my knowledge) unrelated parents, so it’s perfectly fine to ship the c00lkiddlings together as long as you treat them like a child couple (holding hands at the lunch table or some shit and getting fake married under the slide during recess) rather than an adult couple (sex, passionate romance, actually being good at dating)

Don’t fucking tell me kids cant date. When I was their age people were dating ALL THE FUCKING TIME! I even had a girlfriend of my own for about an hour before i realized “wait no this isnt love wtf” and we broke up.

well the mr beast moment is supposed to be an example of the dystopian capitalist hellscape that exists in the glass universe, and dystopian settings are meant to be exaggerated versions of the society we currently live in to point out the flaws so yeah it is commentary lol. I have a lot of feelings regarding mr beast and the contrast between the philanthropic work he does while simultaneously exploiting people's financial struggles for entertainment but that's a discussion for another day

This certainly resonates, and I do have friendships like this myself. And I respect if someone chooses not to reach back out to a faded friend because, as you said, they become to hard to maintain in your current life. Sometime’s your life grows around the place they were and there’s no longer space for them. But I wanted to say that I hope no one feels like it’s ever too late to reconnect with a friend. People are impressed that I’ve maintained so many of my friendships from school into my adulthood but there’s plenty that I see once a year max and we are still very close friends.

I’m not a message-online person really, so it’s not even about that. I have one friend who exclusively messages me when there’s a new season of What We Do In The Shadows airing. I probably wouldnt watch the show if it wasnt for her but I like when she occasionally sends me a “wtf was that episode” and nothing more. We met for dinner the other day, it was lovely and we spoke about really personal things, and I probably wont see her again for over a year. Probably wont text much since that show has stopped airing now.

I have another friend that I didnt see for 5 years before they came visited me. In that 5 years we had; a text conversation when I started T, and a text conversation when they went through a break up. And it was actually kinda awkward when we first met up! Which I didnt expect! There was a bit of figuring out how we interract now that we’re adults with freedom instead of kids who’s options involved; hanging out at house OR hanging out at school. But then we got chatting and it all clicked into place - that re disovering old pathways is actually a beautiful experience.

I think this means a lot to me because my closest friend is the same. They moved away when I was 8 and we didnt even have phones to talk on at that point. 5 or so years later (a lifetime when youre young) we managed to get in contact and we were best friends again immediately. Saw them once a year when I could visit by train on my own, and have continued to do this for 10 years. They were the first person I came out to and theyre very very dear to me.

Again I totally get that it’s not possible to keep every single friendship going and you dont always want to revive them. But I just treasure my long distance, once a year or less friends so much and I don’t want people to think that once a friend has drifted away there is no chance in finding that again.

I met another friend recently as well who was my best friend when i was like, 4. I think we stopped being close before I stopped sucking my thumb in bed. But we were in the same place at the same time and we chatted and it was nice. Afterwards my Dad was asking about it cause he remembers us being friends and he said “You might not be close but you’ll always know how to talk to him”

I really feel tremendous grief for friendships that kind of petered away in the face of life's currents. There are people with whom I formed deep, unique, vibrant, life-changing connections, and then we had to go our separate ways and it was too hard to maintain long-distance. There wasn't a fight, it just sort of faded. And I feel like I have more friendships like this than friendships that have endured, so maybe I just have to get used to it. But if grief is all the love we have left over - well, I never did get to finish loving them. I love them, and I miss them, and I probably always will.

It drives me absolutely insane when europeans complain about hearing the mosque call to prayer in muslim countries, and how it's an invasion religion into people's private lives. I go crazy when i hear this because in europe they have the exact same thing, only its just someone slamming on a big metal bell in no particular rhythm or pattern and at random times of day.

But like a fish in water, christianity is so ingrained even into "athiest" europeans' worldview that they dont even see it as christianity. Its just the default, the background, how things are supposed to be. They literally dont even notice the church bells. Nor do they consider them to do with christianity.

Tldr: today is sunday and i got woken up at 9am by the church bells going nuts for 10 solid minutes. Literally 10 full minutes. It was so incredibly long to be yanked out of sleep by sensless clanging metal. an update: i have two days worth of study left, and then ill be done with my exams forever. i am honestly in shock at the concept that after this, i will never have an exam again (except for the bar exam but THATS DIFFERENT OKAY) ..... anyway this last exam has been so hard on me. i put life on hold this year, i put my happiness on hold until i could finish my thesis, until i could finish studying this one humongous exam that seemed to just never end. today for the first time in a long time i woke up and didnt feel my stomach knotted up with anxiety. sure i still have a lot to do tomorrow and the day after (and the morning after that bc jackpottt the exam is at 2.30 pm i love this lady whos letting me NOT wake up at 6 am im order to revise). sure maybe my anxiety will be back tomorrow but today has been a day with a little bit of hope for the future. where i can look over at the weekend, and finally, finally make plans to go out with friends i havent seen in so many months
