Native Silver (tarnished yellow) overgrown by Nickeline (pink) and Rammelsbergite (whitish grey rim on Nickeline) and Gersdorffite (light grey, euhedral crystals) and partially replaced by intergrown Acanthite (dull, scratched grey) and Stephanite (slightly lighter, "cleaner" grey)
Locality: Easter-Duffy Deposit, Greater Slave Lake, Northwest Territories, Canada
Plane Polarized Reflected Light, 50X Magnification
Have not had time to take new pictures of my newer rocks, as I have been super busy working on my MSc, so I thought I would upload some reflected light images from my thesis! If it seems like these are something folks want to see, I have loads more where this came from. Plus tumblr has a lack of reflected light microscopy images anyways. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about this stuff!

I need help from geology tumblr, or anyone with any form of experience in this because HOW do you all get microscope pics so clean?? In case it matters, most of the microscopes in the uni are from the previous century (the stuff you'd see in diagrams), you're lucky if they have a crosshair, they are BARE and have no rubber parts around the eye usually, and the lamp is not white at all it's incandescent and it burns my hand because I keep touching the lamp compartment accidentally. This is the best I can do with my phone am I cooked or am I missing something

A beautiful thinsection from a blueschist, with garnet, glaucophane, albite, chlorite, and muscovite.
@saltyglazedbread described the garnet-albite interaction as a garnet human centipede to me in the practical.

Monte Duria Peridotite
One of my favorite thin section samples in our lab. Pyroxene with exsolution lamellae and some stunning berlin blue chloritization.
