Kryptonian name: Mea’el

Age: 21

Meave was abducted by the dominators as a newborn in one of the MANY invasions that happen in metropolis

She was experimented on and they fused her with kryptonian dna, (the aliens were searching a compatible race for it)

It was supposed to be a long time investment, they wanted to create a weapon they could indoctrinate and have full control over.

Kind of like Kon 2.0 but less impatient (Don’t ask me where they found the dna sjkks it’s not clark’s that’s for sure lol)

Superman of course saved the day and she went back in her family’s arms safe and sound.

He didn’t notice though that the damage was already done.

Her kriptonian genes stayed quiet for all of her childood and adolescence apart from random outbursts of strength or things sporadically catching fire.

She’s kinda strange and socially awkward but that’s no alien influence.

She lived a relatively normal life in metropolis and never had a traumatic event that could trigger sleeping Kryptonian genes.

That’s until she moves to gotham to study in gotham art academy!

Like every true gothamite she HAS to get mugged in a dark alley by some lowlife (meta or not doesn’t matter)

It’s a rite of passage!

The shock activated the sleeping genes and BAM she’s not entirely human anymore, oh and she’s also very much not in control of her new powers anymore

Obviously batman and robin are already on it and clark is immediately called to sedate the situation.

Clark and his family will help Meave learn how to use her powers and understand herself better.

The krypotonian name is clark’s courtesy since it’s already been a year since she came in their life and she’s basically a honorary member of the family.

Now that she has a grasp on her general powers (flying is still a work in progress) she thinks it would be selfish not putting them to good use

But she feels left behind when she compares herself to all those young heroes who are already way more skilled than her

I was watching those eps recently.

Also realized that Kaldur and Dick got what they stated they wanted in the worse fucking Monkey's paw curse way in WMLP. Nice work. Ouch.

By awful virtual realisty experience I assume you mean the failsafe mission? The one that was a mind-link induced test that went off the rails after Artemis fake-died because M'Gaan's brainwaves are too strong?

I can't think of anything else akin to a virtual reality experience sorry, lmao, so I'll assume I'm right.

It had the same effect on them as shown in the show, I suppose. I think having seen that kind of 'the worst possible scenario happens' situation is probably really strange considering that's what they're living. the worst possible scenario. and it's nothing like what they saw, which means it was completely useless.

By what they stated they wanted I assume you mean their comments in Dinah's therapy sessions in 'disordered'?

Yeah, Dick got a huge monkey's paw on that. He said he didn't wanna be Batman, and no he's probably about the furthest thing from it aside from a few personality flaws. Which is a wild thing to put in perspective here like. damn. I mean, when writing YJ related fics, and Dick Grayson in general, I always have in mind the fact that he doesn't want to be Batman. it's always soemthing that sits with me as a way to help define his character and personality. especially considering he shares a lot of personality and morality with Bruce and Batman. But specifically in this context it's like. wild.

And then Kaldur's is in another direction. He wants to resign, says he's not fit as a leader, because he acts too much like a soldier. Which is just. Oh god what have I done to you my poor boy. The fact that he's not fit to be any of that anymore, that he's lost all his confidence in a whole new way, is so horrible. He bears the weight of leadership he doesn't believe he can lift, and when he was taken out of that situation, had it forcibly removed by his father, he found that lifting that weight was something that defined him.

Overall it's his statements about why he is leader and not the others that makes it all the worse, specifically his last. That Robin is too young. They were all too young, every single one of them.

a disjointed rant about my young justice season 4 theories

bc i have nowhere else to put them (THIS BECAME A MONSTER RANT, So sorry but i needed a space for this lol and there is a tdlr at the end if you are even interested)!

also this is mostly about artemis and dick and also jade and jason by extension.

spoilers for the trailer and first two eps below! 

i was, of course, if you keep an eye on any of my content, which is probably 2 of you, disappointed to see no sign of dick or tim and maybe that ninja was jason (?) and that was cassandra fighting lady shiva, which fuck yes, i hope the show gives cassandra some screen time this season!

but i actually wanted to talk about artemis and dick specifically. They are my favorite characters consistently in the main team, followed closely by wally and kaldur and zatanna (and okay yes thats most of them, actually i love all of them). i would ofc love to see artemis have some happiness for once in her life, but if they are going to give her mostly angst im glad they are exploring what looks like an anti-hero path and her relationship with her sister Jade. Which again, if you know me, you know fictional complex sibling relationships are my LIFEBLOOD.

which brings me to the second thing that popped out the most to me: i fucking love jason todd and dick grayson and their relationship and i have always been very curious as to how the yj universe changes would change that dynamic. What i mean by that is greg weisman (which if you’ve gotten this far you probably know he is one of the main producers of the show) said in one of the questions on his q&a website way back in s2 that he and the writers didn’t see a reason for bruce and dick to have a major falling out re his transition from robin to nightwing, and that they wanted them to have bruce support dick and continue to have a healthier relationship than is portrayed elsewhere. i am all for this, we love to see it, but that rift is what creates the distance between jason and dick pre jason’s death. dick didn’t live in the manor when jason did, he wasn’t there when jason became robin, so how would this change in yj, especially when it comes to their relationship? A lot of people have discussed and made fanfic regarding this ofc, but this would probably mean dick and jason lived in the manor together while he was alive? that dick would’ve been a part of, or at least present when jason becomes robin (if it was done right)? So how much closer were and are they? We see hints of dick’s grief for jason and dick is definitely a lot more somber and mature so to speak after the s1 time skip, so you could theorize that they were closer, which i hope is the case.

All that to say that because of all this i have been so looking forward to seeing jason’s return and possible reveal beyond what we saw in season 3. since season 4 is more character focused (along the lines of season 1) i know that a lot of the other characters outside of the core 7 from the original team are going to be through the core 7′s storylines rather than so much of stuffing a ton of storylines in at once. I did enjoy seasons 2 and 3 of course, but not as much as season 1, which i love very deeply, so this is exciting. I’m hoping this means we will be seeing a lot of the bat family characters with meaningful screen time through dick’s storyline and that dick’s story is going to have a lot to do with jason and everything surrounding that. I know there are other programs out there and other ways the red hood storyline has been done but i am still anxious to see yj’s take on it. Given the amount people that have discussed jason in yj in the fandom, even since his small appearance and the nods to him in s2, i know the writer’s and creator’s are aware there would be a lot riding on this if they took this path. i also think that’s probably why they didn’t show dick, because they don’t want to give anything away, so even though i was disappointed, it also piques my interest.

SO SORRY THIS IS SO LONG I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS AB THIS SPECIFICALLY. but this is all circling back to make a larger point I PROMISE. As someone’s whose favorite episode is Homefront (season 1 episode 12) which, if you don’t know or remember, that is the artemis and dick co-centric episode that really showed how dick thinks and how capable he is and the weight of being a sidekick who has done this for so long and being the first one. it also shows artemis’ vulnerability in this beautiful way and explores her relationship with jade and her past and they both kind of grow through each other and their similarities as non-powered members of the team who were traumatized so young, i think in a different way, than the other team members. I really loved this episode because i love the two characters individually. I love both of their relationships with wally, and i like their relationships with zatanna too, but that is kind of neither here nor there. I also really love their relationship as friends, and the potential i think it has, esp. because i think young justice could go a lot further with it. I have been alluding to this but i think dick and artemis are so similar in ways that are so interesting story wise: they are both very capable, highly trained, non powered individuals who have been using that training one way or another since they were 9 years old, which as far as i know, is younger than the rest of the team. they both started this due to heavy family traumas that while different, manifest similarly as compared to the rest of the team. re; they are both more secretive, hide a lot more of their emotions, etc. they were also both the closest people to wally his age and they both lost him. Like there’s just so much shared stuff there and i want to see that explored more. I know they had a good amount of screentime together last season, but a lot of it was plot frst, and not necessarily focusing on their dynamic, and as a character study whore i want more deep scenes between them. 

Now we are getting even CLOSER to my main point (jesus i need a life). i think one of the last and biggest things they share is the complicated sibling relationships they have and are going to have in the show.  I think it would be so interesting to see artemis struggling and working through her past, particularly when it comes to jade in parallel with a storyline about dick dealing with jason, his resurrection and his kind of murderer to anti hero journey. I think artemis and dick would be great for each other during this as friends who, to some degree, understand what the other is going through. Especially because I think jade and jason are so similar. i think this will also be interesting for Will and Roy, but that is a different, though very related, rant. When I saw artemis in the trailer and saw the emphasis on her struggles and jade i found myself hoping that the show makes enough space to show the complex relationship jade and artemis have, in a way they have done to a degree in the past, and i think they could do even more of. In terms of dick and jason, i think IF they are closer in the yj universe (i might be blowing this out of proportion as huge fans of both these characters so that’s okay) then a redhood esque storyline would pack even more angst and even though that would hurt it is also what i want to seee !!!!! so that an antihero redemption is just that much juicier. I think what other red hood storyline adaptations have lacked a little bit, especially when they heavily involve dick, is not focusing on the character/relationship angst and the love they could have for one another as brothers and dick’s grief for jason and meaningfully exploring jason feeling all his resurrection feelings, but focusing more on the plot of redhood with their relationship as an aside. I’m hoping that given the nature of this season, and the things they’ve done with artemis and jade, that they will shed light and focus on dick and jason’s relationship in the yj universe and that they give us some sort of beautiful emotional reunion or reveal scene (i know this might be a lot to be asking for but hey it is my dream here). Not to mention that if they are going to heavily mention wally or pursue bringing him back, focusing on dick and artemis’ friendship, and letting them at least discuss these things together, would be even more necessary.

I had even more thoughts about this after watching the first two episodes of sesaon 4 that showed both M’Gann and M’Comm’s relationship and M’Gann and Gar’s. Again, we love a good complex platonic relationship! Familial angst that has an undercurrent of immense love and at least previous closeness! Let’s see where this season goes, I’m cautiously optimistic and also just generally very excited to have the show back!

TLDR: I am excited to see artemis’ past and relationship with jade explored, and i hope that yj is paralelling this with dick and jason’s return and that they focus on the sibling love, resulting situational angst, and eventual (though maybe not this season) closure and/or redemption to some degree. i hope that through this, artemis and dick’s friendship has emotional development that is shown more explicitly on screen. i am very excited ab this possibility and have been waiting a long time so we shall see!!

ALSO PS: I have written large portions of what could be one long one shot or a series that served as a character study of sorts that explored dick and artemis, respectively, and as friends. it gives pieces of season 1, explores the 5 year gap, and then season 2 and after (up until s3). it focuses a lot on their shared trauma, their respective relationships and grief over wally and jason, and also heavily features zatanna. I have not finished it and I only work on it for me when i have an idea that needs. to be written, but i would consider posting it. but i dont know if anyone would be interested? esp if the show does it to some degree? anyways if you even started to read this let alone made it here i’m floored. thanks

Top 10 Favorite Young Justice Characters

10. Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle

Starting off the list is Blue Beetle. Young Justice introduced me to him, and I was hooked. He’s probably the most mellow and calming voice. His arc and relationship with Bart (friendship or not) were my favorite aspects of S2. They bounced off each other in every scene. I was very disappointed when Jaime and Bart were sidelined so much, and hope S4 changes this (particularly with Bart).

Jaime in the number 10 spot since he doesn’t really have much of a memorable personality. Still love him to bits though.

        9. Will Harper/Red Arrow

Funny enough, I did not like Will. He was an asshole in S1; S2 kind of changed my mind about him but not enough since he didn’t appear as much. What really changed my mind was the episode “Private Security” (S3 Ep.4). I started looking back into Will’s storylines and, I have to admit, his is probably one of the best character development.

The first season had him unwillingly living a lie and betraying the people he cared for. In season 2 he was so consumed into finding the original Roy for five years, not even caring or focusing about his own life. I felt really bad for Will because he was probably going through an identity crisis and thought he couldn’t live his life without finding Arsenal. Probably felt guilty.

Seeing him living his own life and being happy with his daughter was so heartwarming. I smiled every time Will appeared in the latest season (totally ignoring the Will x Artemis fiasco), especially with Lian. I’m very proud of him.

I feel bad for putting him so low, yet I adore the next characters more.

 8. Garfield Logan/Beast Boy

I have been a massive Beast Boy fan since Teen Titans so you probably can imagine how excited to see him. His origin story was unique and his brother-sister bond with M’gann was very sweet. It was pretty weird seeing how much younger Gar was than Dick, but I got used to it. I was bummed that Gar wasn’t in S2 as much; however, S3 truly made up for it. 

After watching Beast Boy being a great leader in S5 of Teen Titans, I wanted a leader-like and more mature version of him. Young Justice truly delivered with Gar being the leader of the Outsiders. It’s nice to see him treated with respect rather than as a joke because that was my biggest gripe with Teen Titans. Though it was weird seeing him not crack a joke at all.

Gar’s story with his mom was heartbreaking to see. I literally cried seeing his reaction to revisiting his trauma in S2 and S3; I just wanted to hug and tell him how awesome he is. My only complaint with Gar in S3 was that the Outsiders weren’t established until near the end of the season.

His voice actor being Greg Cipes also gives him extra points (He’s a chill guy and radiates BB energy).

 7. Dick Grayson/Nightwing/ Robin I 

Sorry to all the hardcore Nightwing fans.

I love Dick (don’t get any ideas), but he doesn’t get enough development in the spotlight. One of the things I really wanted to see from him is his growth as a main leader, and his journey to becoming Nightwing. I was really bummed when these happened between the first two seasons.

To be honest, I don’t have as much to say about him other than straightforward qualities I enjoy about him.

1.His Voice (it’s so soothing)

2.His Personality (very charismatic)

3.Very Handsome (Probably in the top 3 my most handsome YJ Men list)

I put him higher than the others since he made a lot of contribution to the story and his new words (gotta love that aster!)

6. Megan Morse/M’gann M’orzz/Miss Martian 

If I made this list during S1, M’gann would have probably been in my top 3 (maybe even No. 1), but S2 didn’t give her any brownie points.

I really liked S1 Miss Martian because of her kind heart, awkward girl next door personality. Her trouble fitting in the beginning reminded me of when I was going through a time in high school; seeing her having trouble as well helped me feel not so lonely. M’gann powers were (still are) my favorite since I am a big fan of mind-like powers. I would feel so powerful. Watching her identity crisis(?) arc was great too. I’ve had trouble feeling comfortable in my own skin as well as my social anxiety (I’m a mess) and I could understand how scared Megan was of her friends’ thoughts on her true form. 

Oh boy. Season 2 basically ruined her. Learning what she would do to enemies was terrifying to see and left me wondering what happened to Miss Martian that made her step this far. What she almost did to Superboy was almost unforgivable. You do not try to manipulate with your boyfriend’s mind when you guys have an argument! Shame on you M’gann. If Superboy hadn’t forgiven you then I wouldn’t have either.

Good thing S3 somewhat redeemed her. Her kind heart was noticeable again and she refused to do that mind trick again (thank god). Very excited for the Superboy and Miss Martian wedding! Please creators, I beg of you to not skip over it. I want to cry my eyes out in happiness!

 5. Kaldur’ahm/Aquaman/Aqualad 

Now we’re in the top 5 with Aqualad (*ahem* Aquaman) starting it off.

Creating Kaldur was the best decision the creators ever did. I love him with all my heart!

He added diversity to the original team and was a great leader. S1 was not his breakout season, though the second season definitely was.

Kladur played the villain so well that he deserves an automatic Oscar. I never doubted that he was with the heroes, but he didn’t disappoint. My favorite part about Aqualad’s performance was when he rose from the ocean slowly like a cliché villain (he made it work), and the line he said right after he “killed” Artemis; it sent me chills. Love it! 

Pretty disappointed that he didn’t appear as much in S3. Very happy that he is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and is in a happy relationship. I’m a part of the community and loved that there was finally some representation in one of my favorite shows. Even so, I have to criticize how rushed and sidelined it was. I hope Kaldur and Wyynde’s relationship gets development.

 4. Kon-El/Conner Kent/Superboy

Like Will, I did not like Superboy at first. Mainly angry and volatile characters were never really my cup of tea. I do understand why he was upset and felt bad for him; I just handle anger the direct opposite as him. My love for Conner started growing around the end of S1. He was very sweet towards Miss Martian (bless him for not caring about her appearance) and his anger was in control.

Season 2 pretty much switched my opinions on him and M’gann. It was awful what M’gann almost did to him. That scene with him being so sad that what she did ruined that special bond they had almost made me cry. I wanted to give him a hug. He grew so much too since I don’t think he would have handled the whole M’gann drama as well in S1. A lot of furniture would’ve been broken.

I gotta admit something. I almost put Conner near the bottom (maybe no. 7). A comment in a poll in Amino changed my mind. I wrote a poll asking other fans who did they prefer SB or MM. At that point I said SB, though I didn’t think much of it. Someone (specifically yjfangirl) responded “Superboy has the best development in the show.” This had me thinking about how far SB has gone. In the beginning, Conner was an angry guy who felt alone and rejected by the person who he was meant to emulate. Now he is happier and living for himself rather than to be the next Superman. He’s getting married people! A little detail I noticed when rewatching S3 was Superboy mentioning to new characters that they weren’t obligated to be a hero because of their abilities. I adored this! The main reason why Superboy was created to be Superman if the original ever died, and another one of Luthor’s puppets. But he strayed from that pressuring path and is doing his own thing. Conner doesn’t want other people to feel like he did. What an absolute pure soul.

Also, yjfangirl, first I want to say Hi (*waves*)! Then say thanks for writing that comment. It made me really think about the bigger picture with SB and my love for him as grown exponentially. You probably didn’t mean to do that, but I still want to thank you. 😊

 3.Wally West/Kid Flash

We’re in the elites now.

I don’t know how to explain it, I just love Wally. He makes me laugh, and his character growth was great. At first, Wally was this cocky flirt who didn’t take the hero work as seriously. That changed in “Cold-hearted,” one of my favorite episodes in the series. This was when I really started seeing more of Wally than being this dumb flirt. It was great seeing him actually caring about helping people since I believed for a long time that he wanted to be a superhero to just have powers rather than actually protect others. The regret in his eyes when he thought his impulsive behavior killed Perdita helped me see who he really was- this somewhat arrogant speedster who had a kind heart. Episodes that can make me change my perspective on characters are truly special.

I was very upset that he wasn’t in S2 a lot. I understand why since he gave up the life, but I was still bummed. Seeing him being so loving and protective towards Artemis was amazing. Spitfire is my favorite ship and I will not give up on them. All I want is a happy ending! The penultimate episode of S3 was a hint that it will happen. Watching the S2 finale was heartbreaking, I cried watching him disappear, his love for Artemis being the last things he said. Artemis’ reaction did not(I just wanted to hug her). 

I have more to say, though I’m leaving it for another post. 😉

 2.Bart Allen/Kid Flash II/Impulse

Picking between Bart and Wally for second place was tough. Took me a while to decide; I’ll talk about it later on.

The moment Bart made his appearance, I absolutely adored him. He is amazing and I live for his hyper, fun attitude. His arc and relationship with Jaime were my favorite aspects of S2. What can I say, their chemistry is great to see.

That scene when he was meeting the Flash family was so adorable. His excitement was infectious and spoiling his dad and aunt’s births was hilarious! I watch it occasionally whenever I need a good laugh or reason to smile.

Unlike most time travelers- at least the ones I’ve seen- Bart was very involved with what was going on and befriended his biggest enemy- evil and weirdly huge future Blue Beetle. He was pretty careful about disclosing very important information and took things very seriously. You never know if disclosing everything was the thing that brought the world to chaos.

What I found interesting was his choice on how to interact with everyone. He seemed pretty gloomy in the future, but decided to portray this cheerful, devil-may-care attitude to be more likable. I understood (still kind of do). I had terrible mental health issues and I pretended to be happy in front of loved ones because I thought they wouldn’t care about me anymore. Bart got some brownie points for that.

I was dissatisfied when his role was greatly reduced. I wanted the creators to go further with Bart by revealing his past and how it affected him. He was pretty much comedy relief. You couldn’t imagine how disappointed I was, especially with it involving my second favorite character. Season 4 better change that.

I know that you shouldn’t assume a character’s sexuality, yet I really hope Bart is gay. There needs to be more clear representation and Bart can be one of them. I’m also a Bluepulse and Bartuado shipper (fine with either one as long as Bart’s bond with each of them stays strong).

Anyway, I mentioned that I would explain why I chose Bart for 2nd place over Wally. It mostly stems from wishful thinking. I really want S4 to have Bart as a main character since I believe the future will be strong plot point in the season. Development could surely happen such as Bart opening up more about what he went through. Let all those feelings go.

I’m going to write an article on my hopes for S4 when a release date is announced. Bart and Wally will most definitely be talked about.

1.Artemis Crock/Tigress/Artemis

That’s right people!

Artemis Crock, original member of the Team and daughter of villains!

She is such an inspiration to anyone who wants to go their own past without their parents’ support.

It’s hard to describe how much I love Artemis. She’s brave, strong-willed, and a kind person. It’s crazy how great of a person she is after all the terrible things that happened to her. I look up to her because I don’t have a healthy relationship with my parents (verbal and mental abuse) and there are times I don’t feel strong enough to stand on my own. I want to carry the amount of strength Artemis has as my own.

After all that happened in S2, it was amazing to see Artemis come back to the team and train the new generation. It must have been hard to walk away from a safe, comfortable life for a chaotic, dangerous life. I admire that in everyone, but I hold more respect for Artemis since “the life” “killed” Wally. I wanted to hug her so bad.

She’s also one of the kindest people in the show, the events in S3 being the best example. When Zatanna was crying about her dad, Artemis was there to comfort her. It was so sweet! Roy and her also took in Halo and Terra like they were a part of the family; the archer treated them like the best big sister. That rainstorm scene was heartwarming to the core.

Wouldn’t Artemis be an amazing mother? Lian and her have a strong bond like a mother and daughter; I loved it, and Lian is in good hands with Roy and Artemis. Though Jade deserves a chance to be a mother. Artemis also seemed to enjoy taking care of those kids in that S1 episode. Wally too. You guys know what I’m guys insinuating. 😉

Get ready for some fanfics on that someday.

My favorite Artemis-centered episode was the second to last episode of S3. I was waiting for this episode centering around Artemis missing Wally and learning to move on. It was great yet heartbreaking. Nothing bad happened. That Will and Artemis kiss never happened. Everyone makes a mistake. No matter how terrible it was.

Anyway, seeing Artemis and Wally living their lives and having a baby gave me life, even if it was fake. It was a vision of the future. I will believe this until there is confirmation that Wally will not come back.

Did anyone else cry when Artemis was so desperate to, but Wally wouldn’t let that happen (the real Wally would do that)? They are a great example of a healthy relationship with all the love and support they have for each other. I want that.

- Artemis still trying to convince Dick to stay as well. I love seeing this growth in their friendship

- Most of the OG team fighting together presently was 👌

-Artemis and Dick’s hug....seriously I love the growth of their friendship and wish we saw more of it. They've obviously gotten a lot closer in the years following Wally’s ’death’

-Dick is gonna be in TROUBLE! When all this is over and Barbara finds out he didn't stay in bed like he was supposed to. That is after he isn't a puppet for Granny Goode anymore

-One of them will definitely make a smutty/Flirty remark about “Making up for lost time”

-Wally will see Dick and Barbara about to kiss—-even though she’s really mad at him for not listening. Cause if he had he wouldn’t have been made a puppet and could have helped take down Granny Goode.

-Wally “Dude! No way! You two are together?”

-Dick *bashful* “Yeah it took some convincing but she finally agreed”

-Wally “That’s awesome. He’s only been in love with you since he was 12”

Dick “Can I kiss my girlfriend?”

Wally “Yeah sure go ahead”

-We finally get a Spitfire and DickBabs double date.

-We will end on a cliffhanger as to next seasons Baddie.

So far it looks like you don’t really need to have seen s2 to he able to follow s3 - it seems to be focusing more on Dick, Connor and Artemis than the rest of the team (well, the first 3 eps at least. I haven’t seen the latest eps yet)

Mmmmmmmm....we’ll see what happens. Honestly, I might just end up cherry-picking scenes I want to see handled for the hell of it. Honestly, if YJ S2 had been, say, YJ S4, I don’t think I’d have minded so much. My issue with S2 wasn’t the new characters per se. It was the timeskip in general. S1 spends 26 episodes making us learn about and grow close to a core group of characters. You come to love them, their skills, their flaws, everything about them. You want to see them progress more. You want to know their stories.  But then S2 kicks it off with a 5-6 year timeskip. Suddenly all the characters you know, love, and spent a season getting connected to aren’t main characters anymore. A bunch of them retired. Others moved on to entirely different identities. There’s shit that’s gone down between characters that’s alluded to. People have died. But you don’t see any of it. You’re just told all of these things happened, and they’re big, character-impacting things, but they’re merely handwaved.  And there’s an entire new cast of characters you’re introduced to all at once. And you’re told ‘these are the new mains! Love them!’ But you don’t have a season’s worth of buildup and plot arcs and characterization to really make you care about them at all. If you have comic background, maybe you’ll be excited at the prospect of Blue Beetle or Wonder Girl showing up. Cool. Back in the day when I was watching YJ, I didn’t have that background. It felt like I was watching an entirely new show, not S2. And I didn’t like it. It was just too jarring.  Timeskips are hard. And they’re hard to do well. As I said, if YJS2 had been, say, YJS4—if we’d had a couple of seasons in the middle to gradually explain the catalyst that makes Artemis and Wally retire, if we have episodes to show why Dick makes the decision to become Nightwing, if we see the stories for now these new characters are introduced, if the studio isn’t cowardly enough to hide the stories of the heroes that died and we SEE those stories and how it affects the Bat-fam to lose their first Robin, or the hero community to see the fallout of the loss of Blue Beetle—if we’d had those things, I think I would have enjoyed it.  But we didn’t. And based on the way the YJ fandom split itself out when I lurked there and read and wrote fiction, I think most of its viewers agree, whether or not they realize it. It always seemed all or nothing. You either adored S1 and hated S2, or you disliked S1 and you loved S2. But it’s because they felt like two different shows, not two different seasons of the same show.  And that’s...kind of what I’m afraid of for S3 here, too. Especially after so many years between production.

i read a while ago that klance has like a spitfire energy and i wholeheartedly agree (i have a pattern liking for bickering teammates to lovers kinda deal) so i was like ?? y’know what all the paladins are gonna get the yj treatment

bear in mind that the paladins are not the yj characters, but just who i think is their best “parallel.” i’m making sure that they keep their own personalities!!

lance: to me has a KF/wally vibe, full of love for his friends and cares deeply for them, while keith gives off more artemis vibes, with a mysterious background and trying to adapt to a new situation of not being alone anymore

but lance being the sharpshooter that he is, i’m gonna still leave him with artemis’s skill of archery!! and for keith, even though it’d be neat to see him as a metahuman, i’m just in love with the idea of him with a sword like katana or cass cain

allura is kind of a mix of zatanna and m’gann (magic space princess), pidge is like robin (a la dick grayson), hunk has rocket vibes (esp with the tech??), shiro is kind of kaldur (good leader and all that) and conner (clone??), and coran i feel like is red tornado lolol

the first time keith and lance meet, lance pulls the wally shtick and just trips over his feet in front of this beautiful boy and makes a fool out of himself, but he’s projecting his anger by questioning his background but really he’s just mad cuz he looked like a clumsy goof in front of a hot stranger lolol

thus begins the ~rivalry~ (and also begins lance’s flirting with allura lmao)

the rest of the team side eyes cuz they know what’s boutta go down...

bereft ep: everyone loses their got dam memories lol but lance and keith get a new beginning

keith is super freaked when he wakes up, and he sees this boy with the warmest smile and the bluest eyes extending his hand out to help him, and oh man keith is falling hard boiz

he already knows pre-memory loss about lance’s archery skills, but seeing them again for the first time he’s in awe that he gets every single one of his targets and keith forgets that he’s in a random desert in the middle of nowhere and can’t remember how he gets there

they get their memories back and they let go of each other’s hands asap rocky

“i got confused about some samurai movie the other night, where the samurai guy’s dad told him to kill his samurai boyfriend cuz he’s from a rival clan” “oooh so i’m your samurai boyfriend now huh?” keith is v flustered and pidge comes thru like “damn get a room”

and here comes FAILSAFE oh boy

keith gets zapped and lance lets out the most gut wrenching scream “KEITH” and just goes fking nuts, like the dude is seriously hell bent on getting revenge and the rest of the paladins have to calm him down before he gets himself killed

lance’s heart is just gutted and he’s feeling empty and hollow inside because he should’ve seen them coming and he could’ve saved keith

lance takes every alien down as a win, and a step towards keith because deep down he knows he’s alive and he’s going to get him back safe and sound

but oh man they found out the truth and lance just kinda freezes up, because there’s no way keith is gone or the whole team keith is alive and he can’t leave not now not when he doesn’t know that - and bam he realizes he likes keith

when they wake up keith looks over at lance he has a feeling he knows why the archer isnt looking at him

that point forward everything shifts slightly, bc lance and keith already work together well, but now they’re basically the best pair on the field they know each other’s moves and they’re fluid with each other and they communicate well

they’re also dancing around their feelings lmao like they’ll finish off the bad guys and look at each other with the brightest smiles on their faces and they kinda break away with a blush and a small lil grin

hunk: you guys look like you’re getting along out there huh :)

lance: idk what you’re talking about bye

bam nye: the kiss lance scoops up keith in his arms

lance: i should’ve done this a long time ago

keith: no kidding. let’s hope your kissing is as good as your archery
