Host: If you had the chance to make changes, which scene would you modify, and why? Lan Xiaolong: I might have Wu Liuyi join Old A. —Audience applauds— Lan Xiaolong: I think it would be interesting to see these two men—the strongest of the bunch—come together. At that point, the outcome wouldn’t be something the writer could control. I have immense respect for both of them. I really hope that these two qualities I deeply admire could collide and create something that would benefit me greatly. So, this hope of mine is entirely selfish—it’s for my own sake. I’m thinking purely from my own perspective, hoping to add another layer to my life experience or my experience as a screenwriter. Host: It would create even more intense sparks, right? Lan Xiaolong: Right. Host: Well, of course, your idea has clearly won the audience’s approval, hasn’t it? Otherwise, there wouldn’t be such long-lasting applause. Lan Xiaolong: I didn’t expect the applause to be so overwhelming. —Audience applauds— Host: So, this is another lesson. Look, even though you haven’t actually made the change, the idea has already been planted. If you were to make this change, everyone would definitely love it.

I think that "Armand as a character is an exercise in still caring and having empathy for people who aren't made kinder/wiser/gentler etc by the trauma and abuse they experience and if you have to pretend he didn't do the awful things he's done in order to still care about him you're missing the point" and "wanting to defend him because large chunks of the fan base are overly willing to wildly exaggerate his worst qualities (or invent entirely new bad qualities that aren't even a thing in canon!) in order to downplay Lestat's equally egregious crimes and make him look more heroic and romantic by comparison, in a way that is often subtly or overtly racist" are perspectives that can and should coexist

“On the 𝔀ings of a small, simple 𝓶elody
Words take 𝐟light and 𝐬oar
They carry me
A 𝒘orld we'll see . . . ”
a single verse that faintly echoes throughout an empty auditorium; written on delicate parchment, it’s penmanship elegant yet faded with time. though an enchanted being meant to be revered by the awe-like gaze of many, this enigmatic dove has chosen to soar beyond the cosmos where it remains out of sight. once upon a time, miss amélie had once taken to the spotlight, dazzling the citizens of penacony with her soft charm that many likened to the moonlight’s glow. but the amélie of today has since retired from the stage—the details of which she did not enlighten me with nor did i push for after seeing that wistful look in her eyes—and now continues her journey as but a humble songwriter for others.
“i wish to lend my voice to others.. for those who wish to be seen, heard, and remembered. there was a time in which i once felt forgotten by the world, overlooked as a dimly-lit star amongst a sky of countless others who’s light burns brightly. in order to be saved, i too must burn.. or so i thought. this song was created at a time in which i wanted to be heard, and i was. in that sense, i suppose you could say i sympathize with them.”
this was the response the halovian had given me when asked to explain what she believes her purpose as a songwriter is. when i asked miss amélie about whether or not she would ever consider returning to the life of stardom, the young lady merely smiled as she folded up the parchment in her hand, before deftly tucking it away in her old song-writing book.
“my story has been told. i have nothing else to share that i feel needs to be acknowledged. in any case, i’m quite certain we’ll bare witness to many more fascinating stories in the coming years.” a pause. “… i’ll make sure of it.”
— an excerpt from moonlight’s silent voice: an exclusive interview from penacony’s hidden star, amélie.

Sinners is everything. It’s a period piece. It’s a horror movie; a vampire film, and a folk horror, and a horror noir. It’s an action-thriller, and a bittersweet tragic love story, and a dark coming-of-age, with three endings, each genre with an emotionally satisfying conclusion. It’s written with such historical accuracy and honesty and attention to detail it might as well be a true story. The man who played Old Sammie lived the real thing.
#yeah fun and heart-squeezing fact: Buddy Guy? the man who played Old Sammie?#he lived the story Ryan Coogler told#in an interview piece Coogler went to meet Guy—wanting him in the film—they shared the script and then Guy told his life story#being a sharecropper growing up and moving to Chicago to become a musician#Coogler didn’t know that before but broke down hearing it bc minus the vampires? this was Guy’s real life#I find it chilling Coogler wrote a movie so real that it ends with a man who lived it. in real life and in character.#(it’s also. Black artists who respect and influence each others work. Coogler wanted Guy bc he grew up listening to that music#and his dad loved Guy’s work. Guy hasn’t been much for movies but his grandkids love Coogler’s films which inclined him to sit and listen#and then Guy decides to be in Sinners. tying it all together in such a thematically appropriate way. artists who inspire artists.#it’s the continuum of creation. it’s the spirits of ancestors and descendants all existing together)#also shoutout to the story structure; we got three endings for our three protagonists and all of them are perfect and devistating#Smoke and Stack and Sammie all have an ending in a different genre and they’re all satisfying and tie together#in a way that doesn’t detract but enhances the story#sinners#sinners 2025#sinners (2025)#Buddy guy#Ryan Coogler#sinners spoilers#(not really but mentioning Old Sammie and the ending—y’know)#my post

If the media and gossip blogs started spreading gay rumours about artrick patrick would feed into it so much
Hed be adding and making up his own lore and mysteries for fun while everyone goes wild

This mfer. A thousand percent. He’s constantly muddying the narrative against the artashi pr campaign especially when he gets a little notoriety after New Rochelle, he’s being interviewed by a local morning show like “sure okay none of its true, Art and I, we never had sex. You didn’t ask but i only know what his dick looks like because we lived together for six years. You try living with a guy for six years and not watching them jerk off. Maybe even help them a little bit. But we never fucked not really anyway.”
“Sir you can’t say all that on the morning show…now back to tennis—”
“My bad, you didn’t ask but we only kissed that one time on a dare. So basically none of its true. Well there was that other time—”
“We really just wanted to know about your early playing career with Mr. Donaldson but since you bring it up…the rumor is that you explored each other’s bodies.”
“Okay well…yeah that parts true.”

Someone pointed the date that was shown in Liu Xiao's phone after he lost his game of Tetris.
Animation/detail error or important plot point? Either way I'm losing my mind because even if we take post-Yingdu dates into consideration, we would still be in 2021/2022 at most.

after reading the one hundred and one millionth inane quote about how Loki is such a pRiViLeGeD pRiNcE while Sylvie is just a poor baby who had no real childhood and had to learn to fend for herself from a young age, I feel the need to point out that even the ONE thing we know about Sylvie's past, the thing that's supposed to be her mAjOr tRaUmA and set her apart from him somehow, was literally stolen from Loki.
this is how Tom described Loki's experience post-suicide attempt back in the day while doing press for Avengers:
“I think he went, like with everything else, to a sort of… it was just like, the worst place imaginable. I think he went to all of the darkest recesses of the universe. I’m sure he had a brush with—several brushes with death. I think he ran into the shadiest characters you can find in the Nine Realms. I think he had to rely on his wits to protect himself. It was really, really, really unpleasant, I think. I don’t have any frame of reference for that, except for imagining what it might be like to be kidnapped by a terrorist or something and have to survive a very, very frightening and precarious existence. But whatever it was, it was important when Loki came back for The Avengers, that whatever compassion he had left was absolutely shriveled to a minimum because of the experience that he had. Harrowing, I think, and scarring for life—in a way that Thor and Odin and Frigga find very, very difficult to understand.” [source]
and now the show pretends that Loki teamed up with Thanos completely of his own will, even though Marvel had JUST confirmed that the sceptre was influencing him throughout Avengers, and they hand that traumatic backstory that was Loki's off to their precious OC.

If the cycles really are cycling, I just don’t see Daniel escaping the penthouse that easily. The parallels between him and Claudia have all the subtlety of a brick to the face and just like how her single-minded focus on taking down Lestat blinded her to Louis, it makes sense for Daniel's personal vendetta against Armand to do the same. I mean, my guy was directly warned against worrying about Armand at the expense of ignoring Louis and we have yet to see that come to fruition. Sure, they’ve connected over remembering San Francisco, but if Louis is capable of lashing out against his own daughter, what chance does Daniel have? He’s already experienced the consequences of Louis “detonating” once before and this time around Daniel is actively building a powder keg, just waiting for the right moment to light the fuse. Like, maybe he thinks the resulting explosion will just tank Louis and Armand’s relationship, but he is still very much in the blast radius!

I feel like this is a good time to remind my followers of the full-circleness of it all; the 2001 Queen of the Damned film with rockstar Lestat featured songs composed by Jonathan Davis of Korn, my absolute favorite singer throughout my teenage years (and to this day, lbr). Before getting into IWTV I enjoyed those songs on their own, having no real idea of what they were supposed to be about. Now, we're getting actual rockstar Lestat, and looking back relistening to those nu metal rockstar Lestat songs, knowing that the singer that's been absolutely formative for me is singing from the pov of Lestat (and Akasha), a character that's become such a big part of my life as well.
it's just yet another way everything is connected and the world's smaller than you think.
Anyway if you haven't heard his original compositions for QOTD that he himself sings on the soundtrack, they're really, really good- System, Forsaken, Careless, Redeemer, Slept So Long, Not Meant For Me... give 'em a listen! He's done all of them live many years later too, and there's great recordings of those.

(the live version of Careless is truly extraordinary imo...)

Not to psychoanalyze (Yes, to do that), but given Armand's history, his only preconception of what love is, is to view it through pure desire. Love - and more broadly accurate, his life purpose for like half a millenia - as only he's ever known it, has only been experienced through transactional wish-fulfillment fantasies, of which he was the one typically sought after to complete such an exchange. And so naturally, in his own seeking, he replicates it. Though to some degree he also replicates the fantastical existence of fictional romances to compensate.
This lack of true experience of love without desire or fantasy, making his always unfilled 'objet petit a' - his object of desire - (a partner he desires a particular love from but does not receive to his fulfillment) - the catalyst for believing there is no other form of love to be had. That he can simply love the person, and be altruistic to their personhood, without them filling a role or desire for him, just would never occur. He's egotistical and overly pragmatic towards others by the fault of formative experiences denying him his own personhood. In being groomed into the object of desire, he no longer sees anyone else but as such. It's equal parts lack of self-awareness, meaning he simply has no way to counter-reflect upon himself the way one should behave, and developed coping mechanism, either consciously or unconsciously, taking on the role of those who inflicted upon him their desires to gain a sense of control over it.
In never escaping this cycle of love as desire, he always denies himself his full person, and simultaneously denies the personhood of others.
#tldr: Armand is ten trauma responses in a trench coat#the vampire armand#Armand#character analysis#IWTV#interview with the vampire#lacanian psychoanalysis? In my interview?#I'm NOT an expert by the way this is just for funsies#Also if he does love daniel and yet daniel gives him only the very thing he least desires and yet he still loves him after. That#would be like proof of a love beyond desire.#he might not realize this proof though or perhaps has a great anxiety about it's existence leading to cognitive dissonance#It would be proof as well if for whatever reason despite Daniel having every reason to hate him he does find something to love about him.#I think that kind of confrontation between them could lead towards a confrontation with the possible breaking of this cycle.#beyond daniel as well maintaining normal nonforceful noncommital relationships with others would just help him significantly#and I don’t even bring it up here but Armand falls victim to limerance I feel this involuntary obsessive affection towards someone’s#it’s to such that he values whatever can sustain this obsession more that the object of his obsession themselves#his deep fear of abandonment as only the immortal can bind another immortal to a sense of grounded place to surroundings#something tangibly like constant in a world that always and forever changes#to be abandoned by someone like you would be to be abandoned by the only world you can really know#that is if you need your world to be in relation to others and can’t actually concieve of yourself in it as a full self
