Blue Star & a Coyote in love
Pairing: shifter!Bucky x Native American!reader
Summary: Ever the trickster, the coyote shifter named Bucky has fallen hopelessly in love with a woman who will never share his affection.
Warnings: I didn't mean for this to get dark but here we are. violence, death, bucky being Joe Goldberg in the worst way, blood.
Word count: 2.7k
A/n: ahh this is so different from anything else I've posted! I hope that everyone loves it and let me know if anyone wants more of Blue Str and Coyote Bucky.
It's important to note that this is a dark retelling/twist of Native myths about Coyote and that means the reader is Native as are most other characters aside from Bucky. He isn't Native in the MCU and I will not write him as if he were, however, he does take on Coyote the trickster's persona. Coyote is known to go to extreme lengths to get what he wants so to me, it makes sense for him to appear as a white man (aka Bucky) when he wishes.

Night after night, day after day, dance after dance, the man others called Coyote yearned for me. When the deep red skies and yellow sun gave way to the brilliant blue night sky, he would wait for my sisters and I to emerge. In a clearing, he would lay on his back to admire the way we danced and laughed throughout the night. Never did he try to reach for us or call to us although I knew he wanted to.
I could feel it in the heavy stare that stayed on my back each night. I could see it in the way his lips would part in amazement when I danced alone. I could see it in the way his pale blue eyes twinkled when I looked at him.
My sisters would giggle amongst themselves as we danced across the sky. They’d say things like “once again the blue star outshines us all” or “the coyote has fallen for you, blue star” but it was all in good fun. I knew they did not envy the affection he showed me. He was the Coyote after all, the famed trickster that everyone knew of. He had brought fire, among other things, to earth but also brought the first lie. He had been the hero for some and the great villain to others. He was not a man…no… creature to be trusted so his apparent interest in me didn’t mean anything to me.
All it did was bring me worry and concern when one night he was no longer laying on his back in the clearing.
I freeze when I don’t see him and it causes one of my sisters to fall into me.
“Blue star,” she starts, ready to rip into me for halting our dance but she too freezes when she sees what I saw, “he’s gone?”
I look at her over my shoulder, “he can’t be.”
“Can’t be? Have you grown fond of the trickster?”
“No,” I shake my head as strands of hair that escaped from my two braids blow into my face, “no he is there every night. If he is gone, I fear something must have happened.”
My sister, Yellow Star, rolls her eyes, “to him?”
“No,” I say again, growing frustrated that she is not hearing what I am saying, “I…I don’t know but it’s not good.”
Another sister, our eldest, motions for us to carry on and follow the rest towards the mountain we pass each night. We follow but I keep looking towards the empty clearing as we return to our dancing. A deep unease fills my body as the heavy fabric of my dancing robe bounces around me. The fringe at the bottom hits my legs as if to tell me to “keep moving, keep dancing, forget the Coyote” and I obey.
My sisters are dressed in cream robes with various animals weaved onto their backs. Only I am dressed in a robe made of blues weaved to mimic the night sky however I don’t blend in. Instead I become a shining star for all those to follow when lost at night. My robes and dance give hope to those who cannot find their way. I provide comfort to strangers and family alike as we take our place in the sky.
Soon I forget the dread that has filled my stomach and again I’m laughing with my sisters, twirling and stomping through the clouds. We reach the mountain before I realize and I smile widely at the sight, my sisters sharing a similar look. We descend towards the mountain peak when our youngest sister, Pink Star, lets out a scream of terror. The eldest few race to her, yanking her from the clutches of an unseen force. She cries as she holds her leg, blood spilling from the torn flesh. They surround her as we all land on the mountain and search for the thing responsible.
The dread in my stomach has reached my throat, clasping down with a phantom hand. My feet move without my approval and I find myself walking away from the group, towards the creature that lurks beyond the trees.
Yellow Star grabs my shoulder and gently pulls me back. She gives me a worried look as my eyes stay focused on the tree line.
“I can feel it too,” she whispers to me, “he’s here.”
As if even uttering that calls him, the Coyote’s yellow eyes flash in the black space between the trees. His light footsteps turn heavy and those yellow eyes morph into the pale blue eyes I’ve memorized. He looks like a human aside from the elongated fingers where claws lurk and pointed ears that hide beneath his shaggy brown hair. Dressed in all black, he blends in with the darkness around him no matter how brightly we may shine. A shutter races through my body when we lock eyes and a smirk grows across his face.
“What do you want?” My eldest sister, White Star, sneers at him as the others attempt to help the youngest.
He doesn’t answer or even acknowledge her, his focus entirely on me. Yellow Star steps in front of me as two more of our sisters do the same. His eyes narrow at the action but he finally turns to look at White Star. She asks him again? “What do you want, trickster?”
He rolls his eyes at the name, “you’ll need to try harder if you want to insult me.”
Pink Star cries out again when someone ties a cloth around her leg and White Star snaps her full attention to him. She moves with grace as she stalks towards him, hands balled tightly into fists as she comes face to face with him.
Well face to chest as he stands nearly three heads taller than her.
He merely glances down his nose at her, “what do I want?”
Bending down so he can truly be face to face with her, he says to her, “I want your sister.”
“My sister?”
His piercing eyes flicker over her shoulder to where I’m surrounded, “That is what I said.”
“No.”
He looks back to her, a brief moment of surprise flickering across his face, “No? I wasn’t asking for your permission, I was telling you. She belongs to me and I want her.”
“No. She is not yours. You cannot have her.”
He brings one hand up to grab her face, the claws finally making their appearance, “I was being kind with the youngling. I won’t offer the same treatment for you or the others if you don’t give me what I want.”
White Star‘s anger seems to morph in a calm and collected facade as she leans into him, “I wouldn’t expect anything less from you. The answer is no, now and for eternity. No you cannot take her.”
I can feel the growl rumbling through his chest before I hear it and I let out my own scream as his hand drops to her throat. We all gasp and cry out as her body falls to the cold ground and he stands with her windpipe in his hand. He makes a show of dropping it and wiping the blood off on the fabric of his pants. The black fabric greedily drinks in the blood and there is not even a wet spot where it once was.
The Coyote looks between her body and us, “unless you want to join your sister in the spirit world, I suggest you give me what I want.”
No one speaks and he rolls his eyes again as the claws from the other hand come out.
“Give me Blue Star and I’ll even let you take the body,” he grinds out between clenched teeth.
Yellow Star is the one brave enough to speak, “You’ve killed one of us and almost killed another but yet you expect us to obey you? Even you should know better than that, Coyote.”
He sizes her up, taking in her tall and broad form. She had always been the strongest one of us all but always the most kind hearted. His eyes flicker to where the smaller White Star lies and then to where the young Pink Star is safely tucked behind more of our sisters. Her cries have stopped but dry tears stick to her brown face and her eyes pink to like her name, are trained on him.
“I don’t feel like playing games or solving riddles today,” he warns while stepping over White Star and towards us, “I also don’t want to repeat myself anymore.”
The two sisters who are standing at my side gently tug me back as Yellow Star walks to meet him. A few of the older ones join her but the rest come to surround Pink Star and I. My own tears have stopped falling and now rage fills my body as I look wildly between the inevitable bloodshed in front of us and the women around me.
“Green Star,” I beg the woman to my right, “we can’t let them fight. It’s me that he wants, let me handle this.”
Her green eyes are full of sadness and despair as she searches my face.
“No,” she finally says before wrapping her hand around my bicep. I try to yank it away but another sister, Purple Star, grabs the other. She gives me a pointed look causing the two lines that stretch downwards under both eyes to go taunt.
“Don’t,” She tells me and drags me back.
His voice pulls out attention back to him, “Come to me, my blue star.”
Both of us go still.
He’s calling me.
My sisters’ eyes burn into either side of my face as my mind races and I desperately try to come up with something, anything to say.
“You have ten seconds before I rip all of their throats out,” he calls again and it grows more clear that we may not have another choice.
Yellow Star puts a large hand to stop him, “Do not come any closer.”
“Stop me then,” he snarls at her while stalking closer like a predator readying to attack its prey and when she makes no such move, he pushes, “I will take what is mine and you cannot stop me.”
I can see the claws itching to find a home in her neck and the violent image of all my sisters ending up like White Star makes me ill. It seems as though the two holding me are also lost in their head and I manage to pull myself out of their grasp. Stumbling past them and the wall of others before me, I break through and nearly fall. Everyone’s eyes are now on me, waiting for my next move but I have nothing. I’ve come up with nothing but simply handing myself over to save them.
A wildly stupid plan and the senselessness of it is only amplified by the grin that’s spread across the Coyote’s face. Yellow Star looks at me in quiet horror.
A mistake she instantly pays for.
One clawed hand slashes across her chest and neck and she staggers backwards, her eyes wide with fear and surprise. A choked sob breaks from my mouth and I launch myself to catch her as she falls to the ground. Cradling her against my chest, I mummer every kind and comforting word that I can think of. I refuse to look at the damage on her chest, too afraid to acknowledge that it might be fatal. From anyone or anything else, she would survive but those claws are sharper and stronger. They find their target no matter how quickly their victim is and unfortunately for my sister, she was too distracted by me to guess his next move.
“My blue star,” he says with all the affection and tenderness in the world, “come here.”
The sickly sweet drawl in his voice entices me to follow his orders but his actions have me rooted in my place with my dying sister on my lap.
His blue eyes are replaced with the yellow of his animal form while another snarl rips through his chest and as my sister’s last breath leaves hers. Hot tears flood my eyes as I stare at her still chest but I tear them away to look at him. Waves of anger and frustration roll off of him as we make eye contact again. His soften for a moment when I finally look at him but mine harden all the more at the monster before me. He goes to take another step towards me, now only a few feet from me but I stop him.
“You’ll kill them all if I refuse?”
“Yes,” he doesn't hesitate with his answer.
“And if I go, will you let them go free?”
“Yes.”
I look down to my sister. The bright yellow of her eyes has faded as she stares up at the night sky where we had danced only moments ago. I look to White Star and I swear that I see a tear fall from her snow white eyes. Behind me, I can feel the pain and sadness that fills my sisters as they watch us. I can feel the sheer heart break that no doubt washes over their faces as I gently lift Yellow Star from my lap and place her on the ground. Placing a chaste kiss to her forehead, I ask the spirits to welcome my sisters with open arms and full hearts. No one speaks or moves as I get to my feet and face the Coyote in his trickster glory.
He extends a hand out for me to take, those terrible claws no longer in sight. The pale blue eyes have returned and for a moment, I forget that I’m not looking at any normal man.  For a moment, I forget the carnage he leaves in his wake or the blood that stains every inch of his sun kissed skin. I forget that this man has murdered my sisters and would have murdered them all if given the chance.
For a moment, I feel safe as I take his hand in mind but the small cries of Pink Star behind me bring me back to reality. Sensing that I’ll back away and run towards safety, he nearly crushes my hand and drags me towards him. Whatever safety I might have felt is only a figment of my imagination, a cruel trick he used to convince me to come to him.
The hand that held mine has moved to wrap around my waist so that I can’t move from his chest. The other grips my chin and his thumb trails over the three vertical lines there. The action sends a shiver through my body but I force myself to keep still and keep my eyes trained on his face.
He dips his head down and his lips brush over my cheek as he whispers into my ear, “Finally my blue star. I’ve waited for you for far too long and now you’re mine.”
Whatever words I might have had are lost and he smirks at my silence. Drawing away, he orders my sisters to leave and tells them that they may take the bodies. His bruising hold doesn’t let up as I hear them scramble to grab our fallen sisters and dash towards the skies. Only when they are gone and we are alone does he let me have a few inches of space but only to grip my chin again.
“What is your name?” he asks as he nuzzles against my hair, taking deep breaths as if I calm the storm inside of him.
My hesitation frustrates him and the hand on my chin falls to my throat. He pulls back enough to be nose to nose with me.
“Tell me your name.”
“Y/N,” I gasp as the hand grows tighter and the claws dip into the soft skin.
“Y/N,” he repeats and grins. He says it again while his eyes flutter close and he nuzzles against me again.
“Y/N, my blue star.”
My own eyes flutter close as his unspoken threat seeps into my heart. If it is freedom that I crave, it will be his heart that I need to carve out.

are the pathless and abzu related? yes, and this connection is way more important than people give credit for (i will be rambling now)
visual cues are everywhere; the beheaded shark statue right at the start of the game, the purification process and the spirit realm architecture all nods to the previous game as the shells and the locked door at cerno's domain are literal imports from abzu, which are all sweet references present in the pathless
Tumblr media Tumblr media
everything that concerns the spiritual realm has a touch of abzu (pantone abzu blue when)
i'd also add that i have autistic urges to just write about how the pathless feels like this result from accumulated knowledge/experience from past Nava games - the pathless has both the 'myth of creation' and the journey of the hero combined in order to tell this lil story with these silly characters (i see it all as if giant squid team woke up one day and said "what if we made like a fancy fanfic yknow" really best decision ever), however knowing myself it''d just feel like nonsense rambling (even worse than this) and a bit off topic, but i had to mention or my skin wouldn't stop itching
Tumblr media
anyway back to the two games -
i have this recurring impression that abzu allegories and symbolism are woven in the fabric of reality in the pathless - it's not about them directly, but are foundational for whatever is being told here and now
you cannot, in full consciousness, tell me that these are just easter eggs in the pathless that giant squid introduced because it's a past title from the studio; not when there was giant effort in blending the two games sensibly - abzu is brought up in the symbolism, the color palette (red/blue), in the environment, and it's even present in the soundtrack
in short, tying the universe of the two games together was intentional
but despite visually tied, it still made no sense to me; ok we share the color palette, we wander around with the help of a tall one, we defeat the bad one, what else there's to it? is it just the start of the giant squid MCU? giant squid cinematic universe? or gaming universe? (i feel stupid)
regardless, as i answered the question to how, i wanted to understand why - and to make sense out of it all, i resorted to a feature unique to the pathless: written text
what is so important to tell the player that you need written text, something you were avoiding in all your past games but that suddenly you bring back out of nowhere to tell a story in a way you havent done before? i can just assume some topics were too necessary to just left it implied (at best), or never explained (at worst)
one of the reasons i have written this blog post until this point (the main reason, actually) is that i feel there's a bit of an overlook of an essential part in the established the pathless n abzu crossover (can i call it that?), something that permeates everything, but it's not really visible in a literal way
--
as i played the game, godslayer perspective and motives stood out - they are the focus of a good part of all the tablets and dead people's memories - and as i dived deeper into the abzu connections (pun not intended) certain lines got too remarkable:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so,,, godslayer deems this world broken because it's made out of pure chaos, ok i guess it makes sense uhhh wait wait im having flashbacks i have seen this befo-
Tumblr media
uhh oooooohhh ok ok get it i can see some parallels ughhh woooow just wow omg
the underlying factor here is that chaos is origin, foundation for both games universes (tho we can all see that at this point it's the same universe)
in abzu, by ordaining chaos the diver brings back life; in the pathless the ordained chaos, the one that constitutes all life, is at risk because someone decided that having everything made out of (essentially) chaos wasnt really suitable for the second industrial revolution i guess
note: if you know nothing about abzu i recommend reading this post cause it explains a bit about what chaos means in abzu, hence it's relevant to the pathless too
and understanding the chaos that impregnates existence as a whole is central in the pathless, which brings us to another focal point the game brings up: religion
you see religion a big deal in the pathless in the sense that it defines factions; you pick a side, and it's what drives the line of action of almost everyone in the island - the pathfinder quest against the tall ones, the godslayer followers vs the tall ones followers, entire communities dedicated to their local gods, and so on
superficially, it's easier to go to the "bad vs good" route where godslayer must be defeated to keep the order and the light and tall ones good guys whatever, the problem of this line of thought is: too much black and white and no gray to be seen
the pathless final message speaks about decision making: you are free to trace your own path (and this message is reinforced through game design and the title and at the final boss fight, you can name it) however, here lies the detail: similar to the chaos surrounding us, it goes unnoticed that the will to take a determined path comes from within
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that's why religion is a hot topic in the pathless, it's what allows people to trace a path in a chaotic world, literally
the myth of creation - the eagle mother, the branch, her children - in itself is a form of understanding reality, religion - prayers, sacrifices, lines of conduct, contemplation - is also a form of grasping the real, and from this understanding, this particular view of the world, you are invited to take action; you cultivate the land and you build temples dedicated to your god
you take action based in what you believe, and you can see it better in the dead followers you can commune with through the island, they are fierce in their beliefs, which leads them to make a stand or fight back
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it also stands out how the tall ones are imbued with negative traits; nimue shifts moods like summer rain, kumo is terribly jealous and childish, sauro despite everything will resort to violence, cernos is too shy, heck even eagle mother as gentle as she is let atrocities took place before any meaningful action was considered
all the tall ones have their virtues and imperfections because in the end they are also made out of chaos, essentially they are not that different from any tree on the plateaus; but, as the tablets about the masks state, they see things beyond this realm, and with this knowledge they try to guide those that dont see it - it's like this for their followers, and hunter is also guided by them
godslayer is no different, he took a path lead by his beliefs, beliefs those that reject the idea of having life from chaos, which lead to his obsession of fixing what he deemed broken; from his perspective, he suffered in the hands of the tall ones and their followers which made him believe that anything of their nature was treacherous - he failed tho, failed to understand that a single path would lead to perpetual suffering (as some memories states, "i was not meant to bloodshed"), which was a fate his followers had bittersweetly tasted
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in this scenario, hunter is special: she's an outsider, she doesn't comprehend her mission just yet neither knows those lands; she's facing chaos in its pure form and in order to make sense of her new reality, she takes the eagle mothers advices; upon taking on the trials of the island she witnessed chaos in its many forms, and she assimilates it, not good nor bad but a 'in between' - that's why (from my understanding), on purifying the godslayer final form, her eyes glow in bright blue not because she's some 'declared since birth' allied of the tall ones, but because it signals purpose, she understands the chaos, the one that causes life and death, and she embraces that view from within and translates it into strength to fight back and endure
there's not a single creature in this world that doesnt feel lost and be it whatever creature - human, tall ones, demons, animals, everyone is trying to make sense of this confusing world we live in, be it through any path at hand - and religion is just one of the possible ways in the sea of infinite available paths
as hunter explores deeper into the island, she bonds with the tall ones but make no mistake, she's not really a faithful follower - and she doesn't need to be - cause she has the understanding that the tall ones represent this organized chaos necessary to the flux of life, she respects them
pathfinder, unfairly treated, will look at the tall ones and see just lies, refusing their guidance, he will strive for a new path not taken before and ignore any previous knowledge about the world, he will build up a single vision for a brand new reality absent of chaos because that's how he was conditioned to see and absorb the world around him
(and that makes godslayer feels even more tragic, having the possibility of seeing the world through new lenses by wearing the mask of the ancients yet he persisted in his views and ignored the reality as it was - chaos neatly woven - perhaps out of hate and sorrow for all past injustices; even in the end he resisted to accept the world that nurtured him, as he too was made out of chaos - and for that he's forgiven)
you and i can both worship sauro, but in the end we will look at the surrounding chaos from different perspectives and i will decide that pottery is the way to go while you see the sword as the suitable option; as the truth stands, this is a pathless land - there's no defined answer
Tumblr media
the pathless, beyond the 'pathless land' lesson, has something more to tell - that perhaps the path is already established and to you is given the choice of going forward that path or re-evaluate and change directions;
if i had to define the pathless i'd say it's about what touches the eye and where you rest you hand (which can also explains why the eye is an ever present image throughout the game); through perception you grasp the world around you, you create your views and based on it you take action - will you release the bow string? will you strike with your sword? will you cultivate the land? or will you shed blood? what have you seen that made you act like this?
what a chaotic world
Tumblr media
anyway, i have too much to say and no one to listen so my only options are write Big Blog Post or bang my head against the wall if you read until here (complete madness) thanks for enduring until the end
Tumblr media
(cant wait to see the pathless references in sword of the sea i have faith)

Can we talk for a minute about Betty Ross's story?
I mean her meta narrative, really, how she is in comics defined by the relationships to Thaddeus and Bruce, two men with so much potential to hurt her, and she's powerless.
She gets experimented on and turned into the Harpy, which is just loaded with sexism. Angry Woman = Evil Scary Beastie of Myth. And then she's fixed and back to being powerless.
Over the decades, she has good moments and bad, getting married and divorced, the usual "I'm in danger bc I love a superhero" angst, standard comic women stuff.
She becomes Red She-Hulk, in which she is once again defined by the men in her life. Now she's just a mash up of Thaddues and Bruce instead of getting a name or powerset unique to her.
(Ok I know the whole Hulk Family is pretty derivative with naming conventions, but "Red She-Hulk" feels so clunky to me that it's hard to see it as anything other than defining Betty by Thaddeus and Bruce.)
More recent comics have seen her become the Red Harpy, a blending of the Harpy and Red She-Hulk personas, and Betty is absolutely feral. Some of the Red Harpy panels haunt me. And I fucking love it.
Red Harpy is decades of simmering female rage. She's a woman who was constantly held back by men, defined by men, used by men, and now she has CLAWS and will absolutely murder you. She feels very Jennifer's Body, you know? Watching Red Harpy eviscerate the Hulk is heartbreaking, but also kind of a vicarious thrill. Like the ultimate "good for her."
And then there's MCU Betty, who wasn't so much mistreated by the male writers as she was.... forgotten. Until the Russos said in an interview that she was dusted in the Snap, that is. Liv Tyler is rumored to be coming back in the next Cap movie, and I am eager to know if this Betty Ross is also given talons. I mean. I'm almost positive that they'll mishandle her no matter what, but it would be nice for then to at least remember her existence.

Norse MCU Loki braiding and beading!
I can't even be mad at how pretty this looks. This wig uses my hairline to replicate Loki's (as best as I can)
Yes I know he's a ginger in the myths but I wanted to blend the two!
If anyone is interested, I've also cosplayed myth!Loki

I can't even be mad at how gorgeous this looks. I don't actually know where the rest are, but if I find them, I'll add more!

I genuinely dislike the way "trickster" has become this definitive label for lo'ki and people misunderstand his relation to "tricks", magic, and so on. some of that exists because the way asgardians view magic, it's merely tricks, it's nothing substantial, you're not a warrior you're like a magician.
there's also the whole "he's a liar" thing and it's more complicated than dur hur he lies willy-nilly. he has a lot of defenses up, he speaks cryptically, he doesn't like appearing vulnerable, and there's plenty of other nuance here. I do think he doesn't want to admit certain things to himself because that'd take away not only some pride but would dig up certain traumas he'd rather not revisit.
and all of this is related, I promise; the third thing related to this is the misconception of oh he just plays pranks on everyone, oh he lives for chaos for the sake of it.
he doesn't. he really doesn't.
his "mischief" either comes from trying to make a point or trying to achieve a goal and it backfires, or something chaotic is already happening and he uses it to his advantage.
edit: just so I refrain from making another post, I'mma add this: it's why I hate that hair cutting thing they added in the series. I cannot see mcu lo/ki doing something so childish. yeah it was a thing in the myths but these weird attempts to blend mcu lo/ki with myth lo/ki aren't working for me. marvel you already established his personality now you wanna take away his complexity, his nuances, his princely and put together demeanour with shallow comedy?
fanon has become canon and it's so frustrating to see.

Isn't Loki a father?
Ask my muse increasingly personal questions. See how far you can push them.
Loki snarled at the anons words, clenching his jaw. Looking down at the other he simply said. "I AM NOT!" Maybe a little to intense than he would of wanted.
{{Mun: I will admit, that I am a huge Norse Mythos fan, so my Loki is a blend of MCU and Myth. I ran with the idea that Loki is the mother of monsters, and has alot of trauma around them.}}

you know any good fics where the fact loki’s still a teenager (in human terms at least-) is the main plot point?
Unfortunately, no, I haven't come across any where the age is a major plot point except these two which have explicit themes:
Two Worlds of a Hero by Nako13yeh - after capturing Loki the Tesseract starts acting up and now the entire Helicarrier has jumped into another dimension where all of them are comic/movie characters. (warnings in description but the major dark theme is rape, so please be warned)
Wandering Child by wanderingchild - This entire incomplete fic is a mishmash of mythology and has dark dark themes (sexual child abuse/rape/vore(okay that sounds bad but its for a reason)/physical abuse/sexism/psychological manipulation) where the Avengers figure out Loki’s a teen... Loki acts kinda manic but is still smart, its funny when its not tragic, and the characterization isn’t mcu!loki-esque even though the previous mcu events did happen.
Off the top of my head I’ve got a few where Loki gets de-aged to a teen or age is a minor point though:
doubt truth to be a liar by plotholes_and_paradoxes - post-ragnarok and post-infinty war loki's been deaged and thats the entire premise of this fic :D Its ongoing and there are themes of  abuse/sexism but the general typical-to-asgard type.
Comes The Hurricane by Lizardbeth - this is part of an extended universe but can be read as a standalone, and although loki's age is only explicitly mentioned in the one-shot after i'm pretty sure the intention was that loki is between 17-20. (warning for references to past torture)

18+ MINORS AND THOSE WITHOUT AGE IN BIO DNI
YOU WILL BE BLOCKED
warnings: banishment, scars (lokis mythology scars to be exact so sutchers around the mouth and burn scars on his face), odin being a dick, lying, swearing
AN: im starting a new story. this one is based in the magnus chase world where the norse gods are real and come to earth to hook up with the people there. often resulting in demigods. so hello from your resident historian and norse mythology nerd cuz this is gonna be heavy in myth with a touch of mcu (i cant leave tom Hiddleston out of something loki). enjoy.
“How dare you Loki!” odin roared. ”You have gotten up to your tricks for the last time! As punishment,” Loki flinched below Odin. His face still stung and he could almost feel the venom still dripping on his face. His wrists felt lighter than they ever had tied spread out below the snake. ”Ah. Nervous are you Loki? Don’t worry. This punishment will be more permanent and lesson filled than the last one. Seeing as the last punishment did not teach you anything about getting up to your tricks, this time you will not be coming back. As All-Father, I hereby banish you to Midgard. You will have enough power to blend in and make yourself scarce. I do not want to see or hear mention of you ever again.”
“I guess this is good bye then.” Loki laughed as he felt himself thrown into the Bifrost. Colors swirled around him as he fell through the sky. Loki landed in the middle of a field. Groaning, he sat up and looked around. ”Fenway. Great.” standing up, Loki brushed himself off. ”Back in Boston.” Looking down at himself, Loki waved his hand and smirked as his clothes changed. Black skinny jeans, a dark green t-shirt, a black leather jacket and dark green converse replaced his normal Asgardian attire. He waved his hand again but nothing happened. Frowning, Loki tried again to teleport himself to Randolph’s mansion. Again nothing happened. Muttering under his breath, Loki made his way out of the stadium. When he reached the gate, he looked around before climbing over it. Once his feet touched the sidewalk on the other side, he caught a glimpse of his reflection in a car window. ”Fuck.” he growled.
Odin hadn’t healed his scars. Hesitantly, Loki ran a hand over the small puncture wounds lining both sides of his mouth. He supposed he could leave two and try to pierce his lip with what the Midgardians called snakebites. It would be true to his nature he supposed. Glancing around again, Loki ran his finger over the scars and watched them disappear. He smiled at his reflection before his eyes were dragged up to his nose. The wounds there stared back at him. With a sigh, he did the same to those scars. With a glance at the people around him, Loki made a hard decision. The last time he had been here, everyone had different styles of hair. Now it seemed everyone had short hair. It didn’t matter the gender, short hair was the new trend. Grudgingly walking down the street, Loki felt his pockets, hoping that at least he would have some money to pay for things. There was a wallet in his back pocket but when he opened it, there was nothing in it. “Damn.” Standing in front of the hair salon, Loki thought over his options. He could trick them but without his full powers, he couldn’t do much more than glamours. He could just say forget it and just do a glamour on his hair. Or he could forget the whole thing and learn to live as a Midgardian with long hair. After all, he would probably be more comfortable that way when he felt like a woman. A small bell dragged him out of his thoughts. He spun around quickly, mentally preparing himself for a fight. What he didn’t expect was to see someone standing in the doorway looking at him with kindness.
“I’m sorry. I uh noticed you standing out here for a while and uh is there any way I can help you out?” Loki starred at me. “I figured you didn’t exactly have money and I know that my friend will work for free if you have a good excuse.” I gulped as I looked at the man in front of me. ”Which I’m sure you do. I’m just saying because it seems like you need or rather want a hair cut.” The man sighed as he nodded and walked through the door I held open.
“I do. Thank you.” I smiled at him as he walked in. As he passed me, I couldn’t help but notice he was a little taller than me. There seemed to be this undeniable pull to him that I couldn’t explain. ”It’s been a while since I had one. Are you sure your friend wouldn’t mind doing it for free?”
“Course she would. It gives her practice and besides not everyone can afford everything all the time. Sometimes we just need a little help with the things that need to get done.” I shrugged as I ushered the man over to my friend’s chair. ”I’m (Y/N) by the way.” I held my hand out for him to shake. He took it and gently squeezed it as we shook hands.
“I’m Loki.” I smiled at him.
“Like the god?” I asked, a blush creeping up my neck. He nodded, eyes clear but something hid just behind them. “That’s cool. I really like Norse myth and all that. Marvel really helped me get into it.” Loki finally smiled back and it was his turn to blush a little.
”Thank you.” he let go of my hand as my friend walked over.
“(Y/N), who is this?” she asked.
“Sarah, this is Loki. He needs a hair cut but,” I trailed off. Sarah nodded in understanding.
“Then a hair cut he’ll get.” she smiled at the two of us and made a small motion between me and him. I shook my head at her, a small scowl on my face. She shrugged and smirked at me as she ushered Loki to a chair. ”(Y/N) has a habit of finding those in need and getting them the help they need. Anything that happens to you and you don’t know how to handle, come here and find them.” As I went back to the counter, I shot Sarah a glare. I knew what she was insinuating. She was discreetly trying to set me up with this new and handsome customer. Sarah left me alone the entire time he was getting his hair cut.
“Don’t worry about it.” I said when he went to the register. Loki smiled politely at me and nodded.
“Hopefully we’ll meet again (Y/N).” He said with a smile. He offered me his hand and when I put my hand in his, Loki leaned down and kissed it. Sarah watched our interactions from her spot. Looking back over at her once Loki had left, I knew that I wouldn’t hear the end of it.
“Shut up.” I pointed at her before cleaning up the area. Sarah put her hands up.
“All I’m saying is there is a hot guy out there with the name of a Norse God that seems to like you in some capacity. And,” Sarah raised an eyebrow at me. ”if I’m not mistaken, it is the Norse God that you are obsessed with. So why not take the chance?” I rolled my eyes and continued cleaning up. “All I’m saying is take a chance (Y/N). This might be good for you.” I sighed and nodded.
“If I ever see him again and he wants to take that chance as well, I’ll do it.” Sarah gasped.
“(Y/N).” she whispered. I looked up at her.
“What now?” I groaned. She pointed at the window at the front of the store.
“I think he still needs your help.” I turned around and let out a sigh as I took in Loki standing awkwardly in front of the store again. “(Y/N), he needs you. If this isn’t fate I don’t know what is. Go. That’s the end of your shift. ” With a nod, I walked over to the door and opened it for him again.
“Hi.” I breathed out as I joined him on the sidewalk. “Sarah noticed you out here. Is there anything else I can help with?” Loki bit his bottom lip as he nodded.
“This sounds odd I know. I was supposed to stay with family but that didn’t quite work out. They aren’t too…pleased to see me. I’m not quite sure where I can go…” Loki trailed off. He played with the zipper on his sleeve. ”Sarah said if I needed anything I could come here and find you.” His eyes finally met mine. I nodded.
“You need somewhere to stay.” I said. A million reasons why this was a bad idea flooded my brain. ”I need somewhere to stay.” The way Loki agreed with me clicked my only solution into place.
“My shift just finished. I’ll give you a ride.” I started towards my car parked on the side of the building. Loki jumped into action and quickly caught up with me.
“Where are you taking me?” I turned to look up at him.
“You can stay on my couch.”

Werewolf By Night: An MCU Halloween Special
Tumblr media
We’re getting a new type of MCU special that showcases the more supernatural elements of the universe aside from wizards and Asgardians with the more classic monsters of legend and myth.
I honestly thought it would be along the lines of Moon Knight with just a superhero show with magic and stuff, but it draws more inspiration from classic monster films with a blend of modern horror elements. The black and white colors add a whole level of authenticity to the monster theme.
Gael Garcia Bernal portrays Jack Russell with a level of genuine emotion that it’s quite jarring to actually see the Werewolf by Night in action, blood and growling in all. Laura Donnelly portrays Elsa Bloodstone as a conflicted woman with a complicated relationship with her father Ulysses. Harriet Sansom Harris stole the special with her passionate portrayal of Verussa Bloodstone as the crazily eccentric widow.
Overall, Werewolf by Night was one of the firsts for the MCU’s hand at more mature content like the Netflix MCU shows, which makes me excited to see what else could be used in other MCU specials. If you like classic monster films, you will love this Halloween tribute by the MCU.

Comfortember with Tesseroki : Day One
read on ao3 — discovery
cw: implied/referenced torture & abuse
wc: 660
fandom: MCU
Summary: Tesseract teleports Loki to her home in the alternate timeline.
Chapter summary: That an infinity stone has a home in itself is a discovery to him.
Loki flies backward, hurling towards ground. He expects, dread twisting his sternum, to be greeted with the hard surface of a plain, but is surprised as he is laid gently on a soft, beckoning surface. Ice-cold sensations envelop him like a blanket, swamp his systems with comfort.
The land may as well be a mattress to him, for how he slumps into its cool embrace, forgets about his muzzle and chains for a moment, finds its cold calming in a way he hasn't really felt in ages. Snow tickles his hair and with his bound state, the position is anything but relaxing, yet he continues to lie like that, eyes closed, hands shackled and cuffed.
He hears no sound. For a moment he thinks of it as peace, then panic seeps into him as he recalls a time he’d landed on a planet, on a plateau—however different its texture was—and what happened then .
The air is cool and gentle, stroking his face and caressing his hair, as if having sensed his worries and wanting to calm them. Loki takes a shuddering breath, but still cannot get himself to open his eyes, face the world.
He’s just so tired, so drained.
Tess, he whispers from his mind, eyes closed still. He's drained, been tortured for decades, years; he thinks no amount of danger could surprise him now. He’s resigned himself to any threat, as no opponent would be as worthy as Thanos. I wonder where you've brought me.
Not Jotunheim for sure, as the plain his back lies on isn't rough and the air isn't gloomy, frosted, thick with a darkness, a defeated wild thing. Neither is it a place on Midgard, whose land and soil is covered in a residue of something that makes its identity known.
There's a hint of something in her voice when she replies, To my home .
Loki's eyes fly open. Surprise, and wonder for what he sees.
His first view is of the sky, splashed with six colors that blend into each other and create an ombré effect: blue, green, yellow, orange, red and purple. Where the inky purple is, Loki bends his head to see, night resides, silvery stars sparkling within. Long ago his hands — the hands of an artist — would've itched to paint it, bring the colours out on paper, his mind would've memorised every inch of the beautiful sky laid out in front of him, but warped as they are by the mind stone and Thanos and other methods of torture, broken and twisted, he does nothing but stare at it, in awe, surprise, slight longing for the skies of Asgard, and perhaps even delight.
He startles when he hears the voice of the tesseract continue, Our home.
Loki understands at once that by ‘our’ she means the infinity stones. Her voice, clear as crystal and fluid as honey, only contained that specific type of longing when she mentioned them, however rarely.
That she had brought him to her home, to the home of the infinity gems, the most powerful vessels in the entire universe, seeped in multitudes of myths and legends; she had brought him to where they resided—
It makes his heart twist, and a strange emotion fills his respiratory system, palming his heart and prickling his throat. There is some wonder in his eyes, but what prevails is a questioning thought, a suspicious look developed by being raised in the midst of unjust gods.
“Why?” The question wrenches itself out of him, and though he is not one to question a superior, his tongue slips, as a ring slips out of a finger too thin. Unfit, Loki deems himself, for something as divine as an infinity gem’s place of residence.
He sits up, turns to look at the direction from where the tesseract’s voice had been coming from, his stance demanding an answer, only to loosen in absolute shock at the sight he finds.

'Loki' Full Season 1 Review: The Most Frustrating Thing Is How Incomplete the Story Feels
Editor's note: The following contains spoilers through the Season 1 finale of Loki, "For All Time. Always."
[TWH-NEWS note: Tom is NOT confirmed to be on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness even though the article so claims. Marvel hasn't confirmed it.]
The Loki season finale is perhaps one of the most vexing episodes of television I have seen in quite some time. The Disney+ sci-fi drama, tracking the events following Loki's (Tom Hiddleston) escape from the pre-established timeline, was never confirmed to be an ongoing show versus a limited series, with rumors of a second season on the horizon from the beginning, so the biggest twist delivered by "For All Time. Always." ended up being confirmation of a Season 2 with a post-credits title card.
However, while there were other key reveals made during the episode, those reveals left behind plenty of story to explore in future seasons. Too much story. There's a difference between a few dangling plot threads and a mess of string, and the staggering number of questions left unresolved by "For All Time. Always." crosses a line when it comes to completion — especially given the fact that there's no clear sense of when the show might return, and the real story being told is much bigger than the fate of one mischievous scamp.
In general, every episode of this show was beautifully made, with immense credit going to director Kate Herron, head writer Michael Waldron, and the creative team. The cast of known all-stars like Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, blended with new all-stars like Sophia Di Martino and Wunmi Mosaku, did a remarkable job of grounding even the most fantastical moments in raw humanity, and the writing popped with verve and wit. Also, Loki does come full circle on what was its original raison d'etre — the redemption of a character who literally was plucked out of the timeline at his worst, having attacked Manhattan with an alien force so destructive that the Earth needed a whole damn team of superheroes to stop him. On this score, the show was wildly successful, breaking down Loki's sense of grandeur and purpose in the first episode and then slowly but surely rebuilding him into a man capable of evolving beyond his past. Loki did more to examine a single character's psychology and motivations than we've ever seen in the context of the MCU, and all of the progress and growth made by the character, as a result, feels truly earned.
Tumblr media
However, if Loki's redemption was the only thing this show had been about, it would have been a very boring show, and Loki was far from boring. The official theme of the series was "What makes a Loki a Loki?" but the real issues being raised were far more existential; in so many ways, this was a show about faith and free will, an undercurrent that deserves more exploration and frankly appreciation, especially after the questions and themes left dangling by the last episode.
This element proved to be key to so much of the show's construction, especially when it comes to the TVA, which basically functions as a religious order — its devotees slavishly sacrificing their lives to the cause of protecting the Sacred Timeline. It's not subtle, especially when the dark side of it is revealed, those devotees learning that their service happened against their will. "We can't take away people's free will, can't you see that?" Mobius pleads with Ravonna in their final scene together, before she walks away in something resembling agreement with him, telling him that she's going in search of free will herself.
Loki Season 1, by the end, becomes a show not just about a crisis of faith, but about an apocalypse. Every time a story about apocalypses comes up, I find it impossible to forget that the Greek word from which the term originates actually means "revelation." That's why the part of the Bible about the world ending is called the Book of Revelations, but beyond that, the definition serves as a reminder of why endings can matter. Endings are beginnings, in some ways. A painful breakup reveals the flaws in what might have seemed like a loving relationship. Extreme climate change is a revelation regarding humanity's callous attitude towards its impact on the environment. For the characters of Loki — perhaps the entire MCU — the apocalypse they're facing following the destruction of the Sacred Timeline also means the revelation of what lives they left behind.
Certainly there's a ton of room for speculation as to what lies ahead for these characters, but the fact is that the next chapter of Loki's journey won't even be told on Disney+, as Hiddleston is reportedly in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and there's no telling when we might return to resolve the events of the Season 1 finale. Cliffhangers are one thing; anyone who grew up watching '90s TV learned the hard way how to handle the dramatic season endings of The X-Files or Star Trek: The Next Generation. But Loki didn't dangle its characters off a cliff — it pushed them off the edge, leaving them suspended in mid-air for who knows how long.
Tumblr media
Back in the days of The X-Files you at least knew that whatever jaw-dropping cliffhanger the season finale had just delivered would be addressed by the season premiere in just a few months. (Maybe as many as six months, depending on the baseball season.) That's a sense of certainty that Loki fans do not have the luxury of enjoying; based on where the conversations around a second season currently stand, it could be a while before the contracts are even signed. Conservatively, at this point, it feels unlikely that we'll get a second season of Loki until near the end of 2022, and given that the first season took over two years from its announcement to now to actually debut, 2023 doesn't feel like too much of a stretch. Maybe Owen Wilson and Gugu Mbatha-Raw get to make cameos in Doctor Strange 2 as well? Nothing is possible and everything is possible. We just have to wait for the answer, and in the meantime stew in dissatisfaction.
"Only one person gets free will. The one in charge," Ravonna tells Mobius — implicitly referring to He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). Who, speaking of, is now dead, Sylvie having completed her one primary quest to revenge herself upon the ones who took her life away. That, combined with the Wizard of Oz parallels, makes this a show that's fascinating to parse (Sylvie literally killed God!), but frustratingly incomplete in its themes. Literally as the episode officially ended on the visage of Kang enshrined as the ruler of the TVA, I said out loud "Well, there's going to be a Season 2," and I suppose that thanks are owed to Marvel and Disney+ for not leaving that element in suspence for more than two minutes and two seconds.
But if I have a religion, it's my belief in the power of storytelling, how the myths we create for ourselves and others can shape lives and hopefully make them better. One tenet of that is the idea that great stories deserve some sense of completion. So, the first season of Loki committed a pretty grievous sin.

[BIO/VERSES/AU] [RULES] [MYTH LOKI PHOTOS] [MCU LOKI PHOTOS] [PLAYLIST]
Shortened Bio and rules down blew for Mobile users. To see the full thing access through desktop or web browser.
MYTH LOKI
Myth Loki is inspired by the original Myths of Loki from Norse Mythology. Myth Loki is also based off of the artwork and creative mind of my very good friend and my favourite artist of all time mkingamess strandedinmidgard . She very kindly allows me to use her artwork and ideas as well as taking creative decisions on my own and I will be forever grateful.
Forget everything you know about Loki from Marvel. This is a whole different kind of beast. This is the real deal, the beginnings, the original. Meet Loki Laufeyjarson, the son of Jötunn giant Fárbauti (his father) and son of goddess Laufey (his mother), and the brother of Helblindi and Býleistr. Loki and Odin are blood brothers, they blended their blood to show loyalty which makes Loki a uncle figure to Thor.  Loki is gender Fluid and a shapeshifter. He easily changes between genders and even shifts into animals.
Loki has many scars but the most prominent are his scars on his lips. In an attempt to punish and silence Loki they held him down and sewed his lips shut. In an act of defiance he screamed his lips back open again creating long lines of scars around his mouth and through his lips.
MCU LOKI
A troubled and twisted misunderstood shape-shifting god. Over 1,000 years old but still young and restless. Gender, sexual orientation are chains he refuses to be bound by. He grew up with Thor on Asgard, always feeling the outcast, always feeling different from those around him. Finding out he was not of Asgard, that he was lied to bought a darkness out in him that had laid dormant for so long. Moving across realms he caused destruction. His brother had a way of taming him for short moments but they never lasted. He wanted to be good, to make his family proud but he was beyond that now, there’s only so much you can go back and fix.
Loki female form is something they identify with strongly. If they are in private Loki will shift to this form. In Asgard Loki was encouraged stay in his male form, Loki was told that his female form made him vulnerable, erratic and distracting even when Loki was sure that his personality had not changed by shifting. Loki was sexualized and assulted in their female form from an early age on Asgard. Loki has allot of trauma and issues with being comfortable in their female form while being around other people. It is something they hold dear to them but to most people it is a secret. The female side of Loki is relevant through all of MCU Loki AU and verses.
