Before disposable containers and packaging, companies were generally responsible for collecting and reusing product waste like glass milk bottles, or for ensuring the reusability on the customers' end, like patterned fabric flour sacks. There was very little household waste as a result, and any 'waste' that couldn't be composted or reused was mostly burnt/buried (not necessarily ideal but it was still a comparatively very small amount overall, and usually harmless to burn like paper and cardboard).

When companies began to switch to disposable products and packaging to save money, the onus for end-product waste passed to the consumer, but it was too much to burn/bury and very little of it was reusable. It did pile up, because there was nowhere for it to go. This is how the modern system of collecting and hoarding our garbage began, so that customers who "saved money" on disposable products still ended up paying with their taxes to "solve" the problem, by gathering it all up and dumping it into fields and mountains of trash which leech chemicals and gases into the surrounding biomes and populations. imo it's one of the biggest grifts we've come to accept as a normal part of modern life. Some places are now even touting "eco friendly" garbage trucks that run on the methane produced by all that garbage.

People do need disposable products from everything to conveniences and disability aids to sterile medical supplies. Those things will always have to exist. But it's not just the ocean trash we have to minimize but also the land trash, and for both, one way or another we need to shift the responsibility for end-of-life product waste and management back to the companies that produce them, and end the linear product cycle in favor of a circular one.

Sorry this is just one of my ✨interests ✨ and I remain passionately angry about this and the companies that blame us for using their products as the reason waste exists. Waste will continue to be a problem until companies have financial incentives to minimize or abolish it.

In "The Fourth Principle", Mel's young cousin appears to have golden runic tattoos in the same style as Mel.

Mel's cousin's tattoos are not nearly as intricate as the ones Mel has in s1 and definitely not by s2.

We know that Mel's tattoos are tied to her magic, and from the reviews of Chosen of the Wolf, there's a larger connection between mages and these experimental runic tattoos. This could mean that Mel's cousin is also a mage, albeit someone who isn't especially powerful based on how simple her tattoos are.

If Mel's cousin is a mage, I wonder if that may be one of the reasons Mel has her cousin so close to her. From the way Ambessa spoke of mages, and even from Mel own voice lines, the Medardas have a negative opinion of mages. Could Mel have allowed her cousin to be elevated to her side as assistant to the Medarda matriarch to protect her against this kind of scrutiny?

Based on the spoilers from Ambessa: Chosen of the Wolf, obtaining these tattoos isn't a simple or painless task, and yet more members of the Medarda family have them by the time Mel returns. I also noticed that Mel's cousin doesn't seem to be that much older than Mel was in her flashback in Arcane. Except at that age, Mel didn't have ANY visible tattoos. I wonder if in reaction to the Black Rose's successful campaign to steal majority of the Medardas' holdings, the family became more aggressive in utilizing all their assets, which includes family members with any potential as mages. There's more family drama to come with the Medardas then!

Ayy for those of you who remember my initial post about the RGU-themed Picrew project, I finally have some kind of update!

I have traced/redrawn just about every hairstyle in RGU itself BUT what I really need is input on the additional hairstyles I've added. I wanted to be sure to add a few options for kinky hair, undercuts, and a couple other styles that I personally associate with the 90s <3 I tried to keep them stylistically similar to RGU so I hope that reads. Just in throwing these together I could see some looked a bit off and needed editing so gimme your thoughts pleaseeee! I'll attach 10 different hair examples, each with a combo of bangs, fwips, backs, or ponytail options which would, in the picrew, all be separate. So take into account that you could switch things around a bit too.

I also randomized the body type, eyes, mouth, and eyebrows to give y'all a little sneak peak at those too :3 If you have any specific requests for a face/emotion speak now or forever hold ur peace

I was watching Wicked with my mom and during the “pink goes good with green” scene I went haha they’re pink and green like Lars and Sadie. Then, because I’m an idiot, I made this. Not much to say except it’s basically Wicked but with Steven Universe characters 😅 I call it my Green Goes Good with Pink AU!

Disclaimer: don’t get me wrong, I love Gelphie, but for simplicity reasons I have cut basically all romance from the AU. Lars and Sadie are just friends. I also feel bad making Padparadscha a villain so she’s no longer the wicked witch of the east. Plus her name has been changed to Padma!

I've never in my life seen a mirage fan so I can't confirm any of this information without heavy googling so I might have gotten something wrong or like missed something like incredibly weird but I just what??????
