"Wasted [true] potential"
People love to say that [x] was actually a good idea but had "wasted potential" - I've seen this applied to basically any piece of Ninjago content that is generally disliked (eg. Hands of Time, Crystalized) or even stuff that is liked but could have been better.
This makes sense - usually if you dislike something, you can think about why you disliked it, and if you like the overall show, find a way to imagine how things could have gone better. But what's a Ninjago idea that was just bad?
No "wasted potential" - just something that was flawed from the start, and while theoretically it could have worked (since I think basically anything can be contorted into making sense), given the constraints of the medium, almost certainly would have failed.
Ideas:
Bringing back Harumi - could have been net neutral but I don't think anything could have been worth undoing her really powerful death scene
Reviving the villains in a 44-minute special. Unlike Crystalized bringing back old villains, where there was more than enough time to do something new ("wasted potential"), I don't think any version of DotD would have done justice to all the villains in just 44 minutes
The Jay/Cole/Nya love triangle. A better show could have pulled it off, and I'm almost willing to forgive it because "Versus" is such a good episode, but it did a lot of bad things to half the Ninja team and I don't think there was that much of an idea there to begin with beyond "let's invent character drama." It does lead into Skybound, which *does* have wasted potential (and some individually bad ideas) but the triangle in and of itself was just bad from the start
On the same note - the Wu/Garmadon/Misako love triangle. Even worse.
The episode "True Potential" ironically enough falls into the almost-reverse category -- the category of having almost no "wasted potential" because it delivers on its potential so well. Love this episode
Snaketastrophy - suffice it to say I would appreciate its humor a lot more (because it is genuinely funny) if it didn't come at the expense of (inadvertently) gutting Harumi's character, which I think was unavoidable without completely changing the plot.
The magical storeroom gags in DRS2. The only "potential" they had was to be shorter
Agree? Disagree? What are some of your ideas on stuff that isn't "wasted potential"? Could also be things that have no "wasted potential" since the execution was really good and lived up to all the potential!

I know we love discussing Jason being hater in Internet (which is very true, and I think he simultaneously does it from both his own name and Red Hood, depending on who/what he hates at the given moment), but I suggest you this: Jason has an anonymous account to defend his favs on internet. Specifically, vigilantes and superheroes. Specifically, his family members or friends.
And no one needs to know that.
Jason, from his fake account: I think Batman fumbled the case, tbh. But we gotta give some respect to Robin, he did great.
Someone replying to him: Right??? Batman is getting old and predictable, lmao
Jason, in the instant: Lol, what would YOU know about Batman. Watch your goddamn mouth. Idiots like you are alive because Batman is in this town.
Random on internet: Uhh, Arsenal? Lol. Isn't that one Arrow's boy that became a junkie, lolol.
Jason, appearing out of nowhere: *five thousand word essay about Arsenal, his merits, and how insensitive society that ends up with passive-agressive "hope it helps!" sentence*
Random hater: Red Robin is easily the most useless bird in Bats, idc.
Jason, spawning in comments: Say that again
Of course, if you try to question Jason about that matter, he will never admit it. In fact, he often switches accounts if he feels like any of Bats are close to finding out who is writing these furious reddit posts, but. But Barbara knows. And every time Jason tries to bully someone in the family in real life, she can't help but tease him subtly.
Jason: Urgh, man, you suck. How could you miss these idiots?
Tim, frustruated: Fuck off
Barbara, in comms: User "WonderSon" would drag your ass for bullying Red, btw.
Tim: Yes, he fucking wouldddd
Jason: ...
Jason: *tired sigh*

Thinking a bit more about this Steve Has Older Siblings AU I’ve got going on (here, here, and here). Specifically about Richard Harrington’s first wife, and two things:
1. She’s a saint. Theresa Kline (former Harrington) stood by her husband through multiple extramarital affairs but a not-quite-yet nineteen year old mistress with a baby was her breaking point. She bowed out gracefully.
Richard married his mistress and Theresa moved on. She never said a bad word about him to her kids or to anyone. She never spat an insult at the child that ruined her marriage or about her baby boy.
Though, she didn’t have to.
Her kids said enough bad things about Steve and his mom on her behalf to fill a book. They never miss an opportunity to remind Steve that while both their parents were from two of Hawkins’ more influential and wealthy families, his mother was a high school dropout homewrecker and a whore that didn’t love him.
Even after his siblings tried fixing their relationship with him, they all still take shots at his mom. Jason’s favorite analogy seems to be that him and his siblings are ‘purebred’ and Steve is a ‘mutt.’
Or, well. It was until Robin heard it and said, “Pure? Like the Nazi’s ideology?? Yikes.”
2. I realize that this AU does not really contradict anything important in the Officer Noodles (and also here) universe. You’d just have to make Angela Harrington Callahan’s little sister.

day 6 || this era lasted like 2 minutes but i love it anyway
#daily gi-hun#art post#redhead gi-hun my beloved#i know i barely ever draw him w/ red hair its not on purpose i swear#god this era of gi-hun in general is just so. hes exquisite to me okay#all eras of gi-hun are exquisite jsyk but while we r on the topic of this one#ppl kinda misunderstand this gi-hun lots i think. it was esp bad in 2021 i remember when he turned around before getting on the plane#hes not healed. like. At All.#if im being honest i dont even think this couldve been the START of a healing journey for him#other people have pointed this out before but like. what was he gonna do in america#that guilt would still follow him there. the trauma and ptsd would still be a huge part of his life#and its not like there are readily available resources for dealing with the trauma of going thru a death game#yeah he'd get to be with his daughter but ga-yeong is very perceptive and i think she'd notice the changes within her dads personality#which could even put a different kind of strain on their relationship thats different from the kind that existed before#gi-hun could only rlly distract himself for so long. i feel like even if he did go to america it'd just be a matter of time before he >#> couldnt take it anymore and went back to stop the games OR. something.. Worse.#its just not the kind of person gi-hun is. to forget like people want him to. thats just not him im sorry#there was never a world where he got on that plane and left it behind for good#anyway whatever i dont think we should shame a guy for trying to stop mass murder#yea we can debate all day about the effects his self isolation had on other people but i will NOT back down on him being right for TRYING#(side note: you can acknowledge gi-huns isolation had negative effects on other people [ie his daughter] WITHOUT VICTIM BLAMING HIM)#squid game#seong gihun#seong gi hun#squid game fanart#my art#doodle

Very rough comic thingie on something that never gets talked about! (in the way I view it at least.)
I hear a lot of people talk about the SA in the show, some of which used for gags. But I've only seen it talked about with the girl characters. Yagi gets mobbed by fangirls in the movie and kissed, unknown if consensual or not? (I see it as SA personally) Only heard it talked about three times in the past 4 years I've been in this fandom! I feel like if he were younger and not a guy, it'd probably be brought up more, considering other sa gags in the series get brought up.
Sure he's been seen letting people touch him in the first few episodes, but still, I'm giving the gag a more serious thought. I'd imagine that after having it happen for so long, he'd be more used to it and allow the touches (whilst feeling discomfort inside), which... Doesn't make it right. This is for me and the... 3 others who think of this scene in a more negative way, aha 😅

Some more win or lose fanart. While I love all the characters and can't really pick a favorite, I feel really connected to these two. It's hard not to talk about Kai without talking about what Disney did to them and their character, and it hurts everytime I think about it. As nonbinary young adult who grew longing to see people like me on the screen, Disney's actions are disgusting, but unfortunately not surprising. The fact that Kai's story and pacing had to be censored, altered, and even thrown off because it was "too political" is the reason why things seem so stagnant lately. But I don't want to constantly focus on the negatives, especially for the sake of this amazing show. It doesn't deserve to be in the shadow of Disney's shitty decisions. Thank you so much to the wonderful creators who did their best to keep Kai's story intact and try everything they can to give viewers the representation and acceptance they deserve. It means a lot to me <3

I kick my feet about character conflicts actually . neither of these people are completely right or wrong and neither of them necessarily dealt with it correctly but also they're characters and they're *people* and people are, inherently, not going to deal with things and understand things to the degree of like . ideal . that we want them to . and that's how people work bc people also do this and deal with conflict that way and . you know . im so normal about conflict .

Something I'm not sure I'll ever understand about fandom, especially comic book fandom, debates, is debates like the 'is Bruce Wayne a good parent' debate. And I am genuinely looking for an explanation and/or another perspective here.
Because the answer, to me, at least, is yes and no specifically because he is a fictional character.
Because, to me (I wish to specify that this is all my opinion and you could think way differently about this), characters do not essentially have to do what is best, they have to do what is interesting, and because comics are so wide and are contributed to by so many different writers, the idea of what is interesting can vary wildly.
So, yes, Bruce Wayne is a good parent in the comics where that is the most interesting choice. And no, he is not a good parent in the comics where that is the most interesting choice.
The fun thing about comics to me has always been being able to look at the wide array of events and characterizations and just picking what I like the most out of it. And what I like the most changes based on the context of the story surrounding them.
I see a lot of posts that are like "I don't like X character because they did this action in this specific comic" which is completely fair, but also I've always been of the opinion that comic lore is so wide (and, let's be honest, inconsistent) that you can hold multiple true things about a character at once because they are fictional. I just always find it weird when posts come across, again specifically to me, as blaming the character for the choices made for one story by one writer (or even a series of writers), when a bunch of other writers have written said character in a different way, and you can just decide which way you like best, and which way you like best can 100% change with the situation that character is in.
I hope I'm making sense? And maybe I'm completely making this up, who knows

"But Rhaenyra was princess of Dragonstone, of course she lived there for years away from the court."
YES, THAT IS THE PROBLEM. DRAGONSTONE IS THE PROBLEM.
Having the seat of Dragonstone be for your heir to the Iron Throne is a terrible idea. It is a distant and very isolating castle on a small island that effectively cuts off its residents from the rest of the world to the point they don't feel attached to the country they intend to rule, and the people do not feel attached to their will be ruler.
Maintaining their original island seat by sending the heir to the Iron Throne there is a bad idea. We saw it with Stannis. He was isolated on Dragonstone for so long that when war was inevitable, Renly was able to charm most of the Stormlands bannermen into his army, when rightfully they should've recognized Stannis. But they didn't. Because Renly was always present in the Stormlands and in Kings Landing, and Stannis was not.
Yes Rhaenyra was just living on an island she had the rights to as the heir, but thats the problem. The heir should not be isolated on a small and inconsequential island for much of their adult life before inheriting the throne. That tradition of the heir being the Prince or Princess of Dragonstone is the problem in the first place. The heir should be required to live in Kings Landing, and attend court as much as possible.
Not live squared away alone and isolated where they will forget the world and the world will forget them.
