ah, a timeskip in the flashbacks! now wolf is an Older Teen who is Different From The Others—at first you think because he’s got his nose in a medical textbook all the time, but then you look at the very heterosexual group of peers he’s distant from and realize that if he didn’t know as a younger teen, he definitely knows by now that he’s gay

“heartbeats,” oh man! a little anachronistic, but it’s a good mood-setting song for this sequence

(i do think dating a member of the family hosting you in a foreign country is a bad move, independent of the risk of period-typical homophobia. obviously not the primary concern for anyone in this scene, ijs.)

and the patient of focus is an elderly woman who has become very sexually active since her husband’s death. her sons finding this “inappropriate” is laughable to me, but i recognize that this is because i’ve heard too many “STDs run rampant in nursing homes because elderly heterosexuals don’t use protection and are rarely monogamous” stories on this cursed website

tangentially related: why tf do the sons think they have any say over what medications their mother takes?? they’ve been involved in the conversations about her health, yeah, but all the procedures and treatments were done with her consent. then the second wolf brings up libido enhancers they come in all “whoa now, we don’t approve of that!” and??? it’s not your call, buddy

all this to say: an episode theme of shame projected by relatives onto “inappropriate” forms of sexuality is a solid choice here.

the patient’s sons wanted their mother to gracefully transition from nonsexual maternal figure to nonsexual grandmaternal figure, never acknowledging her personhood independent of that connection to them and theirs; wolf’s mother wanted to keep him an innocent child, free from the dangers of gay adulthood that she had witnessed in her practice. eternal mother, eternal child, dehumanizing either way. i’m glad both groups seem to have moved on from that way of thinking by end of episode.

wolf thinking his mom said something to scare nichols off, and all she said was “don’t hurt him”?? god, nichols what is wrong with you (affectionate)

wolf and nichols were so cute prior to that moment! that embarrassing early days all over each other eagerness (in your workplace? multiple times?? where your mother also works??? if i didn’t already know wolf was a big risk-taker…), but also being able to tease each other over silly little things like utensil preferences? cute.

and then! “pain is inevitable, but so is joy”? i mean, i disagree—as someone who has been deeply depressed for over half my life, i don’t think joy is inevitable, i think it’s something you have to seek out and grab on to—but damn it’s a good line. (followed by the return of “heartbeats,” aw! falling fast are we, wolf?)

indirect spock reference my beloved! (i mean, with susan as the guest star you gotta, right?)

i am worried about carol’s stalker patient storyline. your husband cheated, went no contact with her, and then she looked you up online and became your patient?? girl. you cannot let this continue! even if she threatens to do something to herself as a result of you removing yourself from her care team! especially then, god damn, are you new? if patients threaten their lives there are steps to take.

also talk to your husband about this, he needs to know girl is escalating

dana’s expression is so delighted when the patient’s two boyfriends come to visit. i love her.

i really do not know how to feel about intern love triangle developments this episode. 1. imo the ericka → jacob feelings came out of nowhere, totally unexplained, and they continue to be presented in the most boring way possible (someone else says something sexual or romantic, cut to a longing look from ericka). 2. the twist at the end was fun but i have no idea what it means. is ericka using van? did she actually have a crush on him the whole time and pretended to pine over jacob to keep van from finding out? does she like both of them?? the messiness is unexpected of ericka, and i could be into it for that reason alone, but i need more info. maybe next episode will provide!

seeing @louis--wifey talk about their texicali kids so much made me think about my indibama kids again so i'm posting them lol (mom is indy bc I am a femIndiana truther)

Mobile, 'Billy', 17, (he/him)

Typically very warm and friendly, and the top offender when it comes to passive-aggressively making people take care of themselves. Currently going through an aloof phase, he’ll get over it though. Has and has had, a lot of nonconventional pets over the years snakes, turtles, frogs, salamanders, a couple ant farms (fire ants once though he made sure his parents didn’t find out about that…). Locked in a lifelong feud with New Orleans over Mardis Gras (he also has a crush on her but the feud is more important >:[)

Fort Wayne, 'Winnie', 14, (she/her)

Personality much like her namesake General “mad” Anthony Wayne. Her passion for just about everything she’s into isn’t always bad but she is very easy to rile up, very short fuse, regular in both the nurses and principals offices. Really much like Alabama, but somehow worse. Very passionate about the environment but in a very 14 yr old way, out here scolding her family members for things like not recycling and leaving the sink on while they brush their teeth.

Huntsville, 'Hunt', 13, (she/her)

Loudest of the kids no competition, the child can scream and will not hesitate to do so. Usually just because she’s just so excited and can’t keep it all bottled up or she feels like she’s going to burst. Got her passion for mechanics from Indiana, but instead of getting into cars and developing a bordering unhealthy obsession with NASCAR like mom and dad went “you know what’s cooler than race cars? Spaceships!!” and it all was downhill from there. Definitely a Mathlete.

Evansville, 'Evan', 12, (she/her)

The most mild of all the kids, not really loud and angry like dad, not really quiet and passive-aggressive like mom. She’s the mild salsa of people, and she is definitely happy that way. Very interested in medical fields, particularly the ones most people find the grossest, knows a lot of medicine history though mostly civil war and ww1. Walk away now if you don’t want to hear about the history of amputations and prosthetics.

Tuscaloosa, 'Lucy', 11, (he/him) (twin)

The rough and tumble kid, much like Alabama when he was young. Stubborn and very opinionated. Wishes he was still the capital, often jealous that Montgomery gets to be it. Football is already his entire personality, wears nothing but Crimson Tide merch, and has played youth football since he was four. Regular in urgent care, not always for football related injuries because he is also just has dumbass as a personality trait.

Montgomery, 'Monty', 11, (he/him) (twin)

Most quiet and anxious of the kids, much like Indiana when she was young, and also like his namesake General Richard Montgomery. Even already often wishes Tuscaloosa was still the capital just to not have to deal with the responsibility of it. Absolute history nerd, “did ya know-” could be his catchphrase with how often he walks up to any available family member to go on his latest ramble. Plays football too, but really hates it, too nervous to tell Alabama he doesn’t like it.

Indianapolis, 'IJ', 11, (he/him) (Irish triplet)

How to kindly call an eleven year old a snobby, self-important, prick. Genuinely thinks he’s the center of the universe, not helped by the fact that he is in the dead center of Indiana. Has that previously mentioned bordering unhealthy obsession with NASCAR. He's also just so... annoyingly patriotic, but doesn't show it until you're too far in to the conversation to just walk away.

South Bend, 'Joey', 9, (they/them)

I mean this affectionately, they’re weird. You either die a weird little boy or live to see yourself become a weird nonbinary teenager. Car enthusiasts, but not specifically NASCAR like the majority of the family, just generally likes cars. While you studied the blade they were at antique car shows. Really close with good ol’ Uncle Michigan.

Birmingham, 'Bee', 8, (he/him)

Greco-Roman myths nerd over here, never going to leave his PJO phase. That baby of the family privileges really make up half this guys personality, gets whatever he wants bc he's mamas baby boy. Not really relevant to his personality but he is a solid kid, v dense.

I came back to apologize for my previous ask about the smut in M&M. Not about the question, but the delivery.

Reading it in retrospect, it sounds terribly abrasive, abrupt, and rude. That was not my intention. I’m actually quite embarrassed that I typed it out the way I did. Very disrespectful, and I am sorry.

I’m also a single mother, AND a business owner, who happens to read a lot. And as a matter of fact, I do write my own fics.

When I came across yours, I was immediately enamored by it, especially because I had never seen anything like it. I LOVE the entire concept. Its creative and extremely relatable. Especially for people like me. I realize I should have led with that.

I felt very strongly that you needed to know I truly wasn’t trying to be an asshole when I asked. The delivery was awful though, and since I wrote it in the middle of the night when I was already tired and my brain was looking for smut (lol but not really funny), I projected that in a bad way.🤦🏼‍♀️ I truly regret it.

In an attempt at an explanation, I saw most of what I said as a joke, i.e. “Good God. If they moved any slower, they'd be going backwards ... Sorry ijs...” I remember actually laughing when I typed that.

It wasn’t meant to be an insult, but more rhetoric or hyperbole. I wasn’t careful with my expression, so I apologize for that, too.

All of that being said, I also just happen to be a straightforward person, but I wasn’t angry at all when I wrote it.

When I said “Why not omit the smut altogether?”, I was actually wondering why you didn’t just choose to just make it fluff instead (though you can do what you choose). As I read it, it didn’t feel like it was even mandatory, especially considering the dynamic between them, and how it was clear he had strong feelings for her from the beginning, even when they worked together.

I also admit that with the tags, I had an expectation of more, which is where the mess that came out of me originated, but I was absolutely not expecting it for every chapter.

I don't agree with adding too much, adding it in every chapter, or that the only thing that matters is sex. His character really is objectified a lot, and all of that can dilute a story very quickly or even ruin it.

My question was more geared towards gaining an understanding of why you chose the route you did. Which was a far better way of asking than the way I did, and there’s no excuse for that.

I hope you continue to write great stories, and again, I SINCERELY apologize for my insensitivity.

Firstly, I would like to say I really appreciate you reaching back out to me — I was pleasantly surprised to read this and it makes me SO happy to know that there are people like you on the internet, capable of addressing a misunderstanding in a respectful and thoughtful way. You being willing to send me this says a lot about who you are as a person, so seriously, thank you.

No hard feelings on my end, all is forgiven. I can completely see where you were coming from and I also relate — there have been many times in my life where I’ve said something and it came out different than what I intended. It happens love.

I will happily go ahead and answer this question! There are two answers to it.

The first answer is that I will not omit the smut altogether simply because… I like sex? 🤷‍♀️ Idk, it’s a simple answer really, lol 😅 But I think to put it in perspective, I like sex in a different way most people consume on this platform. I am demisexual — so I have to have that close emotional bond with someone before I find them remotely attractive. When it comes to writing smut (and sometimes even reading it), this really plays a big part to both my inspiration and my comfort level.

Secondly, I’ll address what you said regarding the characters in the story, specifically relating to the comment about how the smut wasn’t mandatory.

Personally, I do think the smut scene in ch 3 was relevant to the story bc it gave readers an insight into Satoru’s feelings/perspective. While yes, Satoru was drawn to reader in the beginning, he didn’t understand his own feelings, and there were walls he built up around his heart (you get a glimpse of this when he talks to reader about how he never wanted to get married; it was after their courthouse ceremony in ch 2).

Also, most of the interactions between him and reader were subtly intimate in chs 1-2… he really did not start acting more bold until after the smut scene in ch 3 (ie, he tries to kiss her in the supply room and in the kitchen). Basically, his walls did not come down until they shared that first kiss, because it solidified his own feelings for her. He mentions this to reader when they share their second kiss in ch 6.

If you listen to the song on my playlist for mhm called “Cardiac Arrest” by Bad Suns, it really speaks to the image I had of Satoru while writing the scene during/after their kiss in ch 2.

The moving too fast thing plays into readers character. She was cheated on by naoya (also naoya is just a prick lol), so of course trust is not something she is going to give lightly. I did not feel comfortable having the smut continue in ch 6 bc it felt like their relationship would regress — reader wasn’t honest with satoru yet yk? It would’ve felt super hypocritical for her to preach about how important trust is to her, but then not deliver it herself. putting myself in satoru’s position, I would feel pretty hurt if immediately after I fucked someone for the first time, they suddenly decide to tell me a secret they were hiding from me? 🙂‍↕️ Again... idk, that could be just me though, bc as I said, emotional bonds are big when it comes to physical intimacy for me.

Anyways, I hope this gave you some perspective to my own thought process and answered your question love.

As a fellow mom myself, just wanna say, you single moms are literal super heroes 🥺 Sending you love bc it is NOT easy. Thanks for reading my story and apologizing 🫶🏻

LBTE: Jared (125-127)

Birthdays! Playoffs! The fucking Kansas City Scouts.

125. Many Happy Returns

The Canucks are second in the west but they don’t have a mathematical chance in hell to catch up to Kansas City, who’s blown every other team in the league out of the water, and hold a firm enough lead to almost certainly win the President’s Trophy.

Cue fist shake at the Scouts.

He feels guilty about it, rooting for Bryce to succeed but not succeed too much, hoping that the Flames succeed enough to make the postseason but not enough to earn a date with the Canucks.

Because Jared has absolutely no idea what that would lead to, whether they’d be able to put it aside or not, the fact the rest of their season depends on their husband’s team losing. Jared already gets annoyed when Bryce plays particularly well against him in the regular season, how is he going to feel if Bryce is doing it in the playoffs? How’s he going to feel if Bryce throws a borderline hit against one of his teammates, or one of his teammates throws a borderline hit against Bryce? Would he be welcome at their place when they were in Calgary? Would Elaine be comfortable with him staying with her in Vancouver when he’s playing her son?

Jared’s underestimating himself a bit here. He is underestimating Elaine a LOT.

“This is a stupid amount of flowers,” Jared says. It’s heavy it’s so big. And then they’re going to die in a week or two and Bryce will have blown a bunch of money on nothing.

“I love irises,” Elaine says happily, so Jared will grudgingly accept the flowers Bryce has sent, since they make Elaine happy, and that is a noble thing. “Did he leave a note?”

Jared picks a note out of the gigantic mess of flowers — irises, Jared presumes. Jared can tell a rose from a tulip, but that’s about it on his flower knowledge.

Mom loves irises, it says. I wanted to get you flowers but know you don’t care about them so I picked a bouquet that she’d like. Stop frowning at the flowers. Happy 21st babe, I love you. x B

How does it feel to be Known, Jared.

It’s not a game day, so at least Jared isn’t subjected to a post-game shaving cream pie in the face in front of the media, though he is subjected to a post-practice shaving cream pie in the face, courtesy of one Dmitry Kurmazov, and then forced to get lunch with his attacker.

Dmitry: participates in a time-honoured hockey tradition.

Jared: is this harassment?

“Yeah, him and Stephen and Dmitry,” Jared says. “After I got shaving cream pie to the face. It stings like hell when it gets in your eyes.”

“Thank fuck my birthday’s in August,” Bryce says. “Worst tradition ever.”

I don’t think I even need to tell you Bryce feels this way for hair related reasons.

“Hey,” Stephen says. “Jared. Mrs. Marcus?”

“Elaine, please,” Elaine tells him.

“Stephen,” Stephen says, “Gabe’s boyfriend.”

“Oh!” Elaine says, glancing over at Jared. Jared possibly should have told her that at — literally any point.

Might have been a nice heads up, yes.

“That’s a lovely coat, Elaine,” Stephen says.

“Oh, thank you!” Elaine says. “My, um — I got it last mother’s day.”

“Stephen knows about Bryce,” Jared says with a wince, because yeah, that is also a thing she does not know.

Here Elaine was all ‘okay Elaine, don’t mention Bear, and if they ask any questions defer to Jared, you can do this’ the entire drive in, hyping herself up.

Jared has the sudden immature urge to like — stick his tongue out at him, but he resists it. Mostly because Stephen would never let him live it down.

See, Jared and Julius have a brotherhood, and so do Jared and Stephen, but in Stephen’s case Jared is specifically the LITTLE brother. And he hates it.

“Go drink some Gatorade,” Jared says. “Replenish those electrolytes. I can wait ten.”

“Okay,” Bryce says, then, “Love you!”, like Jared isn’t going to talk to him in ten minutes.

Bryce’s refusal to end phone calls with Jared any other way, regardless of the context, is legit one of Jared’s favourite things, though he won’t even admit that to himself.

126. Apprehension

“You played really well tonight,” Jared says. “You’ve been on fire lately.”

Bryce laughs. “Why are you saying that bitchily?” he asks.

Accusatory would be the most accurate descriptor of Jared's tone, but bitchily isn't wrong.

Bryce is quiet for a moment. “Jared,” he says. “Are you mad at me for playing well?”

Jared would feel a little cornered if Bryce didn’t sound amused. “No,” Jared lies anyway.

Bryce is SO fond of this gremlin.

It’s a weird situation to be in, watching game tape, Dmitry talking about chopping at a recently injured ankle — that’s some cold blooded shit Jared is now considering — while bouncing his baby on his knees, breaking off musing about maiming dudes to blow raspberries against his cheek.

Jared's expression at this moment is priceless. There is judgment and horror and disgust and also confusion and is that the slightest bit of…respect?

The final score’s 2-0, but it would have been a completely different story if Kinder hadn’t been standing on his head, the D doing the best they could to help keep it from him in the first place. The Scouts made Bryce look like a ghost out there, which was the worst part.

So the thing about Willy's line -- it's hell. It's a hell line. They can score, obviously they can score, they have two of the most prolific scorers in the NHL, but they are also extremely defensively responsible and physically punishing when they don't have possession. It's an absolute nightmare to play them. The closest anyone has come to solving them is 'endure their shifts'. But then more Scouts arrive onto the ice, and they're no slouches either.

The Flames would put Bryce out against the second line instead to boost the offence at home, but in KC? Scouts have last change, and they have rendered Bryce toothless.

The frustration starts boiling over halfway through the second, the Scouts up by — Jared would prefer not to think about how many goals the Scouts are up by right now. Suffice to say that Kinder is currently wearing a baseball cap and fuming, and if Jared didn’t have a game tomorrow he’d be drinking as much as Elaine is.

Shortly into the second Elaine stopped getting up and going to the kitchen to refill her wine and brought it back into the living room. Shortly into the third, she returned from the kitchen with another bottle.

The Flames are fuming too, and Jared sees flashes of Bryce’s temper he hasn’t seen in years, in every after the whistle scuffle, and then when the second’s drawing to a close, he gets into it hard with Williams, looking genuinely furious.

“Fuck,” Jared says.

“I can’t watch,” Elaine says, hiding her face in Jared’s shoulder. “Tell me when it’s over.”

At least it's not Shithead? Though Playoff Willy is dangerous to everyone, up to and including himself.

They get coincidental roughing minors, the top centre of both teams out, and no one’s really taking advantage of the four on four, while Bryce and Williams don’t stop talking the entire time, it seems, yelling at each other from their respective penalty boxes. They get a lot of footage of that during the second intermission, the talking heads all musing about ‘passion’ and ‘gamemanship’ while Jared just hopes Bryce doesn’t murder or maim the dude.

I love them as much as they hate each other.

Jared can’t honestly say he’s surprised when Bryce ends up right back in the box in the third for cross-checking Williams to his hands and knees right in front of the ref, though he is not impressed.

Bryce Justin Marcus, at least give the refs the opportunity to pretend they didn't see it.

“I used to be that flexible,” Gabe says, sounding a little wistful about it.

“Then you got old,” Jared says.

Poor Gabe. Gets it at home, gets it at the rink. Can't escape.

127 - Defeat

Jared’s not the scorer on their line, that tends to be Gabe with the final finesse or Dmitry with the net-front redirect

Read: with his big ass planted in the blue paint. Surprisingly generous of Jared not to refer to it that way.

“I’ll probably see you before they even get there,” Jared says. “Canada Post takes forever.”

“Just do next-day,” Bryce says.

“Do you know what next-day delivery costs?” Jared says.

Look, Jared WOULD see him before they get there for regular delivery, and next day delivery IS extortionate. But see Jared willfully ignore the existence of Fed-Ex and the like.

Well, Jared could just wander over to their equipment manager and ask for another game puck — there’s plenty, mostly for selling off to fans purposes — but he expects he’d get a look of grave disappointment that he lost like, career milestones, and Disrepected the Importance Of Equipment — he caught that look from Joseph when Dmitry smashed his stick in frustration after he whiffed on a puck tonight — and also he’d always know they were fake, so.

Could you imagine. It’d be like the Tell-Tale Heart, rubberized.

Jared texts Elaine during commercial breaks to keep from getting too antsy between shifts, his dad, who’s in the crowd and can tell him about shit the cameras aren’t catching, that happen when the screen cuts to yet another ‘here’s a big fucking truck for a big tough guy like you.’ ad.

I honestly almost miss ‘hoorah pick up truck for good ol' boys’ ads, now that 90% of ads during hockey games are for betting sites. But they’re still among the remaining 10%, so.

He texted Ash a few times during the first but she just replied with exclamation marks, so Jared suspects she is too in her feelings right now to communicate, which is fair enough.

I appreciate that Jared respects this very understandable position.

Jared would like to un-make that wish.

There is an entire subgenre of fairy tales about how you don’t get to do that, Jared.

Jared grabs a quick bite to eat at the hotel bar, since he’d been too nervous to eat dinner properly, checks the time every few minutes until he knows Bryce has gone through the coaching staff team pissed media bullshit gauntlet, and tries to find somewhere properly secluded to call him, since Carter’s still recuperating in their room.

Jared’s had a roomie change, which is easy to miss since they’re not Julius so they’re dead to him.

“Don’t tell me to stay out of the box,” Bryce says. “Everyone’s already told me to stay out of the box.”

“Stay out of the box, Bryce!” Jared says.

It bears repeating.

“He insulted my mom,” Bryce says. “My mom, Jared.”

Always effective! The classics are the classics for a reason.

Bryce will, however, be in Vancouver for the Canucks’ Game Five, having practically jumped off the plane from Kansas City and right onto one to Vancouver, only cramming in a night of sleep closer in length to a nap, and half of media day — Summers is probably furious Bryce cut out early, not to mention the Flames management — and by the time Jared gets back from the gym to change into a suit for pre-game Bryce is sitting in the kitchen with Elaine, looking tired, worn out.

Bryce still doing himself absolutely no favours with the Flames.

“Everything fucking sucks right now but coming home so I’m just—” Bryce says, and Jared holds him tighter. He’s pretty sure Bryce is crying, and Jared never knows what to do when Bryce cries. He figures the best he can do is just hold on right now, that there’s nothing he can say to make shit better, so that’s what he does, holds on until Bryce is more slumped into him than hugging back.

It was cut out early or break in like this while front of the cameras, honestly, so, no favours or not, Bryce made the right call, because he’d have been eaten alive if he had.

“Didn’t think it’d be a good idea to be in the crowd,” Bryce says apologetically as Jared gets ready to leave, and it absolutely would not be — Jared can’t imagine what the reaction would be if Bryce was seen watching a rival team’s playoff game in a whole other province after cutting out of his own media day, hometown or not.

They would refer to it in his OBITUARY. Dealer’s choice on whether said obituary is many years in the future (but still spoken of bitterly by Flames fans) or very shortly, right after Dave got his hands on him.

“I don’t,” Bryce says.

“Don’t what?” Jared says, when Bryce says nothing else.

“I don’t know,” Bryce mumbles.

“Okay,” Jared says. “That’s okay.”

Jared basically just says ‘okay’ repeatedly during this scene because he doesn’t know what to say but that is for the best, honestly, because Bryce just needs to be heard right then. And held, which Jared is much better at.

“They’re going to blame it on me,” Bryce says, and Jared can’t say anything, because he knows Bryce isn’t wrong. Knows Bryce cutting out early is going to add ammunition to a campaign of condemnation that’s completely out of proportion to what Bryce deserves. Penalties to Bryce resulted in three Scouts goals. He also scored five of the nine goals the Flames managed to get against the Scouts, scored two, including the game-winner, in the only game the Flames won. It isn’t on him, the Flames were up against a juggernaut that they couldn’t figure out how to beat, but that’s not what the narrative’s going to be.

Not that Jared was counting.

Jared was counting, because he knew, just as well as Bryce does, that they’re going to blame it on him. And, because he is Jared, he was tallying just how much that was going to cost.

Hello, @the-invisible-introvert-2004, @lucia1234lizeth I'm here to say that I haven't died because of the hot weather in my country. But during this time I was writing the main story comic and the novel, so I haven't updated :Lore for a while (I'm planning the presentation of the images, sorry for the delay), so I'll show you the information about the OC that we already know. But it's information about their powers in some people that I can think of.

Miyar EE: Vampire Level: Floy Abilities: When drinking 100ml of blood, Myar will be able to enlarge her body. But her speed will drop. At the same time, she can make herself smaller to maintain EE's function (when she's small, her speed increases as well), giving the imagination a bit like Nezuko from the DS. Well, the worst thing was that the Antikythera could only go to the siege of Syracuse. It would've been better if it actually worked like they thought. Then they could also have fought across time. Maybe then the storyline about Indy's grief about Mutt could also have gone somewhere? He could have failed to save Mutt, or something could've meant he can't try (Antikythera overuse bad, for the user, the device, or reality???)... I don't know.

Sallah and/or Marion could've been in it more. Maybe Sallah should have come with Indy and perhaps have been killed by Voller, instead of that random new guy introduced as Indy's old friend? Or would that be a bad idea?

(I've seen some people saying Indy should've gotten to stay in the past, but i wouldn't do that because he would propably have died soon from his battle wounds because ancient medicine sucked. Also not sure what i'd do with Marion then, i can't just ignore her in this)

I think Marion being pretty absent is a pretty big issue overall since we don't get her POV. But given how I wasn't that big of a fan of how Indy/Marion was written in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull either...

I actually think the way they included time travel was smart and fitting for the franchise. The supernatural elements in the IJ movies are beyond human control and the actual plot is always more about Indy's character arc than actually having to save the world; The mechanism actually being just a trick that was always gonna be useless to the Nazis and that is related to a mystical phenomenon we don't get a clear rules for fits for an Indy movie.

Having more free time travel could work well in a fic but not in an actual Indiana Jones movie.

Indy's arc makes sense to me. It's literally him being dragged to reconcile with Marion after realizing you can't dwell in the past. You can make the argument he should have been more active but it worked for me.

Throwback to the time the IJ fandom was losing their shit over Ron being Reagan's love interest because *checks notes* he looks similar to her (they have the same nose, complexion, hair color), which means they could possibly be related, and if they’re related, and also lovers, that’d be ickyncest.

First of all, did everyone collectively forget what an art style is??

And second of all, GOD I wish it played out that way! There were other theories too (Ron being Reagan from an alternate timeline/future and Ron being an alternate Rand are the ones I remember, or think I do for the second one) but Ron being Reagan’s brother would’ve been fucking hilarious.

I wish it played out that they found out they were related and kept dating anyway because Reagan wouldn’t get pregnant (either because it’d take away from her work or she doesn’t want to chance being a shitty parent to her kid thanks to her own shitty parents) so they can fuck all they want and not worry.

I wish it played out that they found out they were related, backed off for a bit, but then got back together again publicly because no one would think they’d be so STUPID as to knowingly date their own sibling.

I wish it played out that Ron was an alternate Rand to really drive home Reagan’s daddy issues. Also, who doesn’t want to fuck Rand over and under and everywhere?

I wish it played out that Ron was an alternate Reagan to get in on that selfcest action. Or the whole “would you fuck a clone of yourself?” bit because yes, they both would.

What we got was still good though. But damn.

Fun fact! I used to have a period where I was a huge multishipper and probably could’ve shipped anything if you asked me to, with a few exceptions… one of those being DenSu. I guess I just never saw anyone ij fanfics portray any actual care between them, they just argued and fucked. And if you want to get me onboard with a ship, I need to pinpoint exactly what they like about one another. I just never saw actually saw any moments in either canon or in fanon which showed me anything more than they argue a lot, & enemies to lovers ig? Idk. I did want to ship it for a while, but it just never got me.

And in modern day, i don’t really stand a chance, as i now see Denmark as straight- though he’s comfortable joking about being into his buddies. And even beyond that, I have exactly one ship between two of the Scandinavians and that’s partially bc I see them as so close-knit they’re brothers, even if they might not be blood-related, they’re brothers. And I think that’s always been the issue with SuDen for me, I always saw them as strictly brotherly.

I will say, I do like the kinda Sweden x Denmark think kellylouisekilljoy has going on with her nordic characters (completely unrelated to hetalia, but I think it deserves a mention). And if you don’t think I’m playing Drømmer Jeg on repeat constantly declaring it SuDen’s national anthem you’re so wrong.

I used male fin here, though I do think it’s important to note I prefer to use a female oc for Finland instead, and there’s absolutely no SuFin there bc Sweden is too gay to handle.

With mlm SuFin, I find it has to be done in one very specific way. Otherwise I just can’t find enjoyment in it. I don’t think they’d actually put a label on what it is, because Finland’s feelings around Sweden are complicated, to say the least. And I find if Finland’s feelings are handled correctly, I can enjoy it.

I actually have discussed SuFin a fair bit with @nordickies and they have definitely gotten me a lot more into SuFin than I used to be. But again, it just has to be portrayed in a very specific way or else I just don’t vibe with it.

The Tide at Sunrise has issues relating to the fact that it's from the 1970s when history was still heavily editorialized and it borders on racist at times, but something very funny about it is how if anything it underplays IJ being a death cult with a complete lack of emotion every time it says something like "the Secretary of State was a Capricorn who played guitar, ran marathons, was idolized for openly assassinating politicians who stood in his way, and had as his most prized possession a signed photo of Charlie Chaplin"

i was writing my first story, one and a half chapters in, when i realized i had no idea what the point of it is. maybe it would have been entertaining or literarily informative for myself if i executed it correctly, but i found that insufficient motivation to keep writing. it would just be entertainment and i found myself wanting more out of it all.

i want to write a story with something relating to the real world that readers could learn from and apply; specifically about colonialism and erasure, but in a more fantasy like setting. i am willing to learn the history necessary to make something nuanced and respectful of the impacts in the real world. this way it'll be a story i will actually see as important and will be driven to write.
