Intrigued by the passion in those tags. Please go off about quokkas
oh man. the context behind that dates back like 5 years. i was on a choir trip in west australia. we went to this island off the coast of perth that was, like, one of two remaining places on the planet where these things live. they were just running wild out there
so at the very start of the trip the tour guide told us LISTEN UP. quokkas are an ENDANGERED SPECIES (i looked it up and theyre vulnerable currently, not sure what the situation was when this took place). she said you can take pictures of them, but donāt touch them without permission and do NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES feed them human food their stomachs will BLOW UP and they will get BLOATED and DIE.
20-30 high school girls rendered silent immediately. then from the back of the group, a buddy of mine said ābut one of them just stole my apple muffin :(ā
idk why but the quokkas were so. dedicated. to doing the one thing we were vehemently warned against. they put nyc birds to shame. like youd be eating a sandwich at a picnic table and there would be a quokka walking over your feet or trying to get up on the bench for it. i honestly have nothing against these dudes i just think itās hilarious to have fake beef with a specific kind of animal for ridiculous and petty reasons

(obligatory "pics or it didn't happen" image)
#thanks for the ask#i was like sixteen tbf. but it still entertains me that the only things i remember abt quokkas are their greed and delinquency#photography

((I missed that you posted the Ultimate Ship Meme!! If you're still accepting, I and maybe the public? Need to know your opinion on Alastor and Lucifer / Radioapple?! (Disclaimer that although I ship it there's no offense taken if this is about to be a roast on it haha!)
Oh I am DEFINITELY still doing it, please send me all the ships!
For RadioApple in particular though...I feel like I need to give some context before jumping into the meme. Because I do ship it, just not in the way most people do, and that's going to affect how one will read my answers on this meme.
Also obligatory disclaimer that I have no problem whatsoever with people who want to write ooey gooey fluff or spicy smut for radioapple, I think everyone should have fun with what they enjoy!
So, for me personally, I adore their banter. "Hell's Greatest Dad" was amazing and hilarious, and my favorite part of the ship is really that dynamic at the moment. While I don't think Alastor actually sees Charlie as a daughter (I 100% think he said all that just to make Lucifer mad), by the end of season 1, Al is extremely fond of Charlie. I know there are a lot of theories about how he's only there because of the deal he's trapped in, and maybe so, but he didn't have to give her his cane to make her speech. But he did. That meant something.
So with that in mind, I also kind of like their "two dads reluctantly under one roof" dynamic as well. And I do see the possiblity of their relationship getting more friendly over time, with development. But romantic? Ehh....i dunno. Al is defintely ace, like canonically so, and he reads as at least grayromantic to me, if not straight up aro. Still on the fence about that.
But anyway, just bear that in mind here, particularly with the proposals and weddings - I still am not 100% sold on the idea that Lucifer is even divorced from Lilith (but that's for another post) so think of any I talk about here as....performative? Transactional? Something like that.
For awareness, the entire "Sex" section is crossed out, and I will put a * at the end of each bolded item in other places..
General:

Oh god I feel like I need a masterpost or rant or sth re the shit with taylor why was it so shitt why was everyone so dramatic am I missing something
OH GOD I MADE A HAYLOR MASTERPOST
Oh god.... Okay this got WAY outta hand I just couldn't stop digging.
I'm assuming because you're in my inbox you came from the post about how Ever Since New York might be about Haylor in the context of it absolutely breaking Harry into pieces by linking to a bunch of songs including some of Taylor's. That kinda stands on its own tho as it's purely based on how their (Harry/Louis/Taylor) lyrics fit together. I expressed my thoughts on Haylor there a bit but these are not the thoughts of someone who lived through that stunt tho, and are mostly based on how I interpret their lyrics. But lucky for you I love digging so I unhinged once again:
HERE IS A VERY LONG COLLECTION OF LINKS FROM ALL OVER THE PLACE RELATING TO HAYLOR
I was part of the blissful general public in 2012 so I didn't pay much attention as it went on, so for real good rants about this let's listen to the people that did and saw it all go down on a day to day basis. Inchrestingly there were some haylor talks the past few days, so have some really fresh 2021 larriewarflashbacks to dec 2012:
this anon rant in @twopoppies inbox
>>this rant<< by @lornasaurusrex ,tag and all the links in that post
this about their recent interaction at the grammys
And from some digging:
TIMELINE MASTERPOSTS
GP - Haylor from the public's point of view or basically just a collection of pics of them together in choronogical order by someone who isn't questioning if it was real, showing very perfectly how they are perceived by the public and actually how succesfull this stunt was, while all they did was hang out and be seen, smile for cameras. This isn't really helping to get clarity on the subject but I always like to view things from other angles, and I think this post shows the stunt from a GP's point of view. Also there's a link at the end to a video of Harry just trying to PR stunt with Taylor's father instead of her it's hilarious.
Haylor was a stunt - MASSIVE debunk (this is really really long and I didn't read it so sorry if it's not great lol)
SWIFTGRON - debunk timeline from someone who believes Taylor was actually dating Dianna at the time
1D - daily timeline of what 1D was doing at the time of the stunt, basically highlighting how ridiculously busy they were, if you look at this and don't think they were under an insane amount of pressure (even without any closeting/stunting on top of it) I don't know what to tell you. It also puts a lof of things in perspective (also note how Harry&Louis are both sick around the same times, hmm)
LARRY - some cute nov 2012 still happy at this point moments - a collection of miserable faces in december, also that debunk and the 1D timeline serve as one.
Back to rants:
this tag rant:
tag rant about "horrible fking told you" Taylor shading Harry during an award show
tag rant about Louis having to comment on Haylor, actually im just gonna paste that one in a pic here too because it's too important
And now to go on a rant myself (still some links in there), I think that's a good time for a cut:
Since that NY kiss resurfaced from a "better angle" somewhat recently (here that is, which is... hard to watch.) let's just go there too. Looking into how a face is looking miserable or body language can all easily be misinterpreted, but I mean cmon, if that kiss doesnt trigger any fight or flight responses in you you're really not paying attention. Seriously Harry looks like he's fking praying (ever since new york, thinking almost over, had enough from you) just a shell of a person. (a post about this too)
Harry never (AFAIK) talked shit about her or crushed anyone's fantasies in any deliberate matter that he might not want much to do with her, that his songs might not be about her, or at least not in the way people would like to think, and Harry has done nothing but praise her (songwriting) whenever she was brought up (harry talking about her for 7 mins straight, he's good at these things but pay attention to what he doesn't say, how he's doing the bare minimum, how when asked about her he focuses on her songwriting instead, maybe because he doesn't have much positive to say about her as a person perhaps?), but back in the early days Louis being a subtle petty lil shit slipped through quite a lot, he was salty about it, (still sneaking in a shady comment as far as in 2015 and harry's reaction is pure gold too). Then from Taylor's side of things, I haven't paid enough attention to her, but judging from these rants she sure went places that weren't very nice a couple of times.
I think with all the songs we have now, and maybe you're not as much into trying to interpret their songs with lyrical deep dives as much as I am and think there isn't much to gain there, I think there is, and I think it all fits with this stunt happening back in 2012 absolutely destroying harry(&louis) and pushing them further into narnia, continuing to curse him for the longest time, and with that I'd say all the sad faces and little things that did slip through the cracks of the show they were all putting on back then that were picked up on by the ranters linked above, that these were indeed showing their true feelings. That they were crushed. They were miserable. They didn't want any of it. Then again from Taylor's side of things, there's a severe presense of some kind of he don't try at all tho-vendetta going on in Taylor's music, like she just can't stop just poking that ghost, just littering her 1989 album with things that can be linked to Harry, which I think more often than not are just stunt lines, just cover ups for whatever she was really dealing with, and still going at it in her latest albums, although less "look at us playing this game" and more "yeah ok that was really shit that stunt".
I'm really not sure if that answered anything. I mean if the part of "am I missing something here" was that you're missing why they were miserable, why people are pressed about this, and I need to go a little more meta and start linking why oh why why this stunt could possibly make them miserable, why closeting is horrible, maybe for that just plomp down this quote from Lance Bass who was closeted while in a boyband:
āBottom line is what the record labels look at. They just wanna make money. And if this artist isnāt going to pull in this many fans because they are gay, they are not gonna support him this much. And I see that with so many people. It was very torturous because I didnāt want people to find out who I truly was. I thought especially in the 90s that if anyone knew I was gay that my life would be over. People would hate me, NāSync would be over. It was a lot of pressure. You become very lonely.ā - Lance Bass
as well as having to deal with how you're portrayed in the media and it not reflecting who you really are (while you're really young too) while being put under pressure not just just being busy doing promo, being away from home, but while that's all going on to be constantly on your toes not to slip up and hide not just who you really are yourself but also your relationship and seeing the one you love having to do the same added on top of it, and then getting whole new fresh layer of shit added to it when after months of that including the buildup media speculation of "haylor" actually having to go out to be seen with someone that's not the person you want to be spending your time with, even having to kiss them, while having to be physically away from the person you want to be with and they are out there doing the same, all while most likely being told and perhaps even believing that this is best for everyone, so you do it, but maybe just maybe that would make you just a tad bit unhappy.

I wanna watch Star trek but I don't know where to start! Is there a series that's most popular? Do I have to watch them in order?
OOH YES.Ā itās all on netflix so watching it is EASY PEASY
iāll tell you about each of them, personal opinions included.
so!
thereāsĀ āstar trekā, the original series, made in the 1960s, which is what my mama grew up watching. this is the one with kirk and spock and uhura etc. this is the fandom that kickstarted Fandom. itās perhaps worth watching for the historical revolution aspect.Ā i havenāt seen more than few episodes here and there (i found its pacing slow these days, yet adored the ones i saw as a kid, and would rewatch them over and over). you could watchĀ āthe trouble with tribblesā as a stand-alone. itās 10/10 and hilarious. i intend to get back to watching the rest sometime. iāve enjoyed this series mostly through tumblr gifsets and fanart. as far as i can tell, not watching all of it doesnāt really affect the watching of the rest⦠becauseā¦
imo, the 90s era of star trek shows were the best (the next generation, deep space nine, voyagerā¦. and enterprise, which i havenāt seen yet). theyāre mostly weird, cheerful, and upbeat. tng comes first, which gives some context to ds9, but besides a few crossover characters and storylines, you could watch either without the other. voyager occasionally has characters from the others but itās pretty stand-alone (you could definitely watch this one with zero context).
show concepts (of the ones iāve watched, sorry enterprise):
the next generation (tng): utopian adventure looking at space!! people trying to be perfect and being like ooooh aliens. ooh planets. this is the basic 90s trek. some bad stuff happens, but not a lot. mostly wacky spaceship antics/intrigue and people trying to do their jobs even when space shit hits the space fan. (season 6 of tng runs parallel with season 1 of ds9, and thereās one ds9/tng crossover episode in tng. the character of worf is developed here and is later introduced to ds9.) definitely a good one to start with!
deep space nine (ds9): everyone lives on a broken space station.Ā this show is the edgy goth cousin, but the one with the heart and soul that i am so freaking in love with right now. my favourite star trek by far. the characters have SO MUCH DEPTH and i swear theyāre all queer or autistic or both. this one gets plot-heavy as it goes on, but it maintains its underlying warmth and still has those ridiculous fun episodes that make everything okay again for 45 minutes. i love the characters so muh-hu-huuuch and the FOUND FAMILY vibe is literally out of this world. thereās only maybe 3 episodes out of 176 that i didnāt like, and theyāre all one-off-romance episodes that squick me for personal reasons (compulsory heterosexuality, ableism?? ew ew ew, scrubbed forever from my personal canon). overall the writing is phenomenal. like maybe one of the consistently best-written shows iāve ever seen, including modern stuff. plus i found another otp (garak/bashir) and thatās undoubtedly a big part of why i love this show so much. i am deeply compelled by character relationships, and this one has oodles of exactly that. you can ship anyone with anyone else and youād be right.
voyager (voy): just a bunch of nerds tryna get home for 7 years straight. a lot of funky weirdness happens along the way. this is my second favourite after ds9. found family, but in a more professional way than ds9. i dunno if itās just my opinion formed after not seeing this show for a few years, but i remember the writing of this one seemed kinda all over the place. always fun though, maybe because of its changeability. lady boss captain, hell yeah. (season 2 of ds9 runs parallel with season 1 of voy.)
thenā¦
well, thereās the new shows, discovery (dsc) and picard (pic)
and i havenāt watched picard yet, but iām getting the impression it has a similar vibe as discovery, and i justā¦ā¦. donāt like it. discovery is dark, violent, emotionally harrowing, and i guess thereās a time and place and audience for that, but itās not me, or any time i want to watch something. itās supposed to be ~reflecting the modern zeitgeist~ or whatever, but imo in these trying times iād rather watch something soft and hopeful that makes me think about how to improve things, rather than something that hits a little too close to home and makes me think about oh god where are we headed if this keeps happening.Ā i mean, itās still going for theĀ āhelp humanity improveā schtick of the 90s shows, but in a very different way.
and then thereās the modern jj abrams moviesā¦ā¦.. eh, i guess theyāre okay. lens flare and explosions, man. give me seven-season arcs with hundreds of ridiculous plot concepts any day.
tl;dr:
i conferred with my sister, and she gave some very good advice: start with tng, and if that doesnāt vibe with you, try voyager, and then ds9, since itās good to get the context of how star trek deals with morality before ds9 knocks the entire concept on its ass.
but no, you donāt have to watch the series(es?) in the order they were made. background world-building storylines would make more sense if you did, but each show is generally unrelated. my family even found it kinda rewarding to watch them out of order (tng, voy, ds9) and piece together plot threads laid down in other shows.
but you can just pick one and go. c:
ā
sister (@sweetdreamspootypie) adds which question each show attempts to ask and answer:
tng: how can we grow into the best of humanity? / what does it look like to be the best of humanity?
voy: what will we give up to stick to our principles?
dsc: what principles will we give up to stay alive?
ds9: capitalism, war, religion, diversity, real people just tryna live, leaning into the grey morality of Being Good. this isnāt a question.Ā āhow dare you infect me with morals!!ā

TOP 10 OF THE BIGGEST DISASTERS OF SITGES
Horror is the real, the realization, it“s the killer before you, the Nazis in power.
Horror has been with us from the beginning, since man is man. Not only some of us have learned to live whit it, but we like it when is with us.
We know we are not the only ones and yes, maybe, you are right, another digital magazine focused on horror cinema is not necessary but for us, horror is not just a cinematographic genre, we really believe in horror as part of our culture and terror as art.
In Surfing Horror you will find reviews but also curiosities, specials, tops and much more stuff related to horror.Ā
And we are born today in the best way possible, making the opening post about the biggest disasters of Sitges Film Festival.
Let“s do it!
šš. ššš ššššššššš

Revenge thriller in rural america. The silencing is not exactly a disappointment, we just don't understand why it has been selected for the official section of the sitges festival.
Unfortunately, this does not mean that we have liked it, itĀ“s a product that we do not think can completely satisfy anyone, it doesnĀ“t add anything that we have not seen before, itĀ“s a very insipid thriller and the main plot doesnĀ“t end up being of interest at any time.Ā
Also, it has a slow and heavy rhythm that makes you look at the clock several times.
šŖšŖ / 5
š. šššš šššššššššš!

A hipster couple in their thirties decide to disconnect from everything and spend a few days outside the city without knowing that the world is suffering an alien invasion.
Once again we are faced with a very promising idea, but that's all it takes, a promise of a product that could have given a much more interesting result. At "save yourselves", we have science-fiction only as context, it is a mere excuse to present us with a comedy not very funny, dialogs without grace and some supposed middle-age problems that if you are not from the upper-class, you will not understand.
The film, maybe in another festival, would have been seen as a light comedy but sitges is not its place.
It's like if you go to a Metallica show and the opening act is Britney Spears.
šŖ / 5
š. ššššššš

Failed attempt of the "man vs machine" debate. We can see the love for science fiction behind this film but we cannot feel it.
The pic looks wonderful, all the visual aspect of the film is very well taken care of and the atmosphere is very achieved but this is precisely the big problem, it seems that Gavin Rothery (director-screenwriter) has forgotten to tell us a good story. The script is not in the same level, there are too many unnecessary script turns (above all, the last one) and there are some characters out of place.
In "archive" everything is left to the end but it's too late for us to be interested.
šŖšŖ / 5
š. ššš šššš šššš

In surfing horror, we also have a place in our heart for western, in fact, we love this genre but is not easy to mix it with horror and have a satisfactory result.
āThe pale doorā is not an exception, in the first hour we have a very little interesting western with empty characters and sets worthy of Ed Wood himself and in the last thirty minutes we have a witch film not more interesting than the western one. Genres are not touched at any time and the balance is non-existent.
Very ocassionaly, this explosive mix works, as on the case of the brilliant "Bone Tomahawk", however, this time, we have not had the same luck.
šŖ / 5
š. ššššš

A father and his daughter decide to spend a weekend on the lake, meanwhile, a group of prisoners escape from jail.
We think that in cinema, especially in horror, it doesn“t really matter what you want to tell us, the thing is "how" you want to tell us.
When you see the short description of "Becky", you can imagine what you are going to find, and indeed, it will not blow your head off, but anyway, you want to have a good time and you are ready to have a good time. Half an hour has already passed since the film started, there is nothing you dislike but you feel that you could be watching something better, for example, the news.
We donĀ“t think that "becky" is a bad movie, itĀ“s just that it has nothing important to say or anything special to add to the genre. In the characters section we have a Lulu Wilson (Becky) that does what she can taken into account that her character does not make much sense. She plays a rebel teen that if things go wrong, she will not hesitate to become a mercIless killer. On other hand, we have Kevin James, who plays a very crazy Nazi but not enough to remember him as a first level villain.Ā
Anyway, we believe that it would have worked much better as a comedy and we would have liked that the script would have been more taken advantage off.
šŖ / 5
š. ššššš ššššš: ššššš

āBlack Water: Abyssā is not a disappointment, it's just a movie that we have already seen a thousand times.
A group of friends decide to explore a cave and ... Surprise! There is a very hungry crocodile.
From the beginning, we can see that the film has many limitations; the tension is poorly maintained, the violence comes and goes in a very confusing way and it seems that there is no person directing behind the cameras.
If you really want to see a horror movie about dangerous animals, please, don“t watch this one.
šŖ / 5
š. ššššš

A family decides to invite their neighbors to dinner at Christmas, what they don“t know is that they are carriers of an evil identity.
Again, we have an interesting premise, a good start and a promise that what we are going to see next is going to make us have a good time but this never comes. Despite having some very well gore moments, the rest of "hosts" is empty, none of the characters contributes anything and you are waiting and waiting for the turn but again, this never comes and when you got it, the movie is over.
The best: a few very well gore moments.
The worst: there is nothing especially enjoyable other than a few good moments.
šŖ / 5
š. šš šššš šššš
š
In 12 hour shift we have an idea, that“s it. There's no more. You can feel during the whole long hour and a half that there is nothing else.
The characters and the situations are written with the intention of making us laugh and achieve just the opposite. We are left saturated and tired of eccentric unfunny characters and so many failed jokes. The worst of all is that it starts with an interesting premise but as we said, there is nothing else comes after that, a real pity.
The best: the starting point.
The worst: the rest of the movie.
0 / 5
š. ššš šššš šššššššš

Take a concept, extend it until it has a feature film duration, insert absurd dialogues with tedious images full of neon lights and focus it on the indie public. The next step is to sell the product as it if were a surrealist and hilarious comedy.
The problem is that the joke is as funny as going to your grandma“s funeral and someone shits on her grave.
This is "she dies tomorrow"
The best: nothing
The worst: everything

š. ššššššššš

Without any doubt, the crown jewel of disappointments of this edition.
We love zombies movies, the merrier the better, if the movie goes straight to the point, much better, if there are not too many sub-frames or too many secondary characters so that we don't get distracted with things that do not interest, much much better, and if in addition, it mixes the action genre with zombies to the perfection, we have one of our favourite movies of the last years.
All that is āTrain to Busanā. That's why "peninsula" is so painful. It is not the worst of this top, it is not even considered a bad movie, in fact, you can get to enjoy (a lot) but we highly recommend that if you really want to watch it, please donĀ“t do it thinking that this is a sequel of ātrain to Busan, because it isn't. It's an action movie with zombies, it's direct, entertaining and there's not too much time for sentimentalism.
The best: do you think that you can enjoy a hybrid between mad max and day of the dead? This is your movie.
The worst: it has nothing, but nothing to do with train to Busan.

My notes to Ezras and Veronikas blind-reaction video
Iāve watched this video like at least 3 times today because honestly, Ezra is comedy gold and a whole ass mood. Also I wanted to get as much information out of their reactions as possible and at the same time try to figure out what episode we are dealing with here. My guess is āKwami Busterā what do you think?
But now for my notes. Get something to eat and drink Iāve got 4 whole pages ^^
Ezra just dead ass comfirmed Mark + Nathanael as canon, nice!
episode starts in a location weāve already been in s1 but rarely and we havent discovered it much so my guess is this:

The only time an akuma attack took place in there was in āMr. Pigeonā and it rarely came up in other episodes.
a āherā is possibly up to something
a āsheā (It didnt seem to be the same person) has alot to speak in this episode but normally doesnt speal much -> Ezra; she kinda does -> Veronika
A character has an ongoing theme, it happenes over and over (progression in the season/s). They dont know wjere the creators will go with it but Ezra theorizes itāll be a massive sacifice. ( I think they are talking about Marinette here, who will maybe see something like Adrien and Kagami together and gets sad over it again. Since she will give up her love for him in s3 finale I find this more than likely). Also Veronika said first she cant imagine it being super sad and then mentioned Marinette slightly with āLike, Ladybugās...ā but then cuts off and agrees with Ezra that āit could be very sadā because Ezra said that he thinks itll be a massive Sacrifice because the show doesnt shy away from real emotions/feeling, espacially love and passion.
something new came up that teaches us about the term all of season 3 has been dealing with. We havent seen it yet, but its setting up why ātheyā happen. (No idea on this one)
something completely different and exciting came up (They are MARELING!) āIts beautiful!ā āThis is gorgeous!ā. Never done before and something slightly origin story like (My bets are that this is a continuation of Master Fus backstory in āThe collectorā and its done kinda in the way of his painting like flashback pics
A āhimā is in it and they are very excited about it (could be younger Fu but it could be anyone, really)
The voice actor whos telling the tale (another reason why I think its Fus backstory) is gonnabe very very busy
the whole sequence is going on for a while
Huge responsibility for Marinette (also another reason for the Backstory. I think this would be the episode he will start actually making Marinette a guradian of the Miraculous and therefore trusts her with even more of his backstory and what happened in the past
Veronika feels for a character alot of other people start to feel for too. She calls the person āmissunderstoodā (I think its Natahlie)
One story line Ezra knows very little about came up next and Veronika wonders if it will come up again āat the end of recordingsā (so the Finale) (I thinks its the storyline of what happened to Emilie)
Very funny Adrien and Plagg moment that has alot of Fanart already -> its cute
right afterwards something āvery differentā happened and Ezra was SHOOK AF
A āhat thingā came up several times in the whole episode. Its gonna need a voice actor, its new to the story but not a character per se. āIts like a significant character in another characters beingā (wtf??)
Once again something āvery differentā happened and Ezra is delighted and shook part 2
ālook at its/his mouthā followed immediatly by a little conversation about hawkmoth winning and that it becomes more and more possible by every passing episode
āSweet Plaggā Plagg either being normally cute or adorable or hes sweet and sensitive in a bad situation (ITs so THE laTER ONE YALL!!!)
SOMETHING HAPPENED! Ezra was so fucking SHOOK PART 3 that they repeated his high pitched āWHAT???!!?!??!?!?ā three times!
Veronika: āHow can they do that though! :Dā
Ezra: āNOOOOOO WAY!!!!! (°ć°)Ā
Veronika: āWhat are they gonna do? :Dā
Ezra: āThere he goes! D:ā
She was smiling and so excited and he dead ass sat beside her this close to having a mental breakdown (like I said this glorious man was a whole ass mood this entire video)
It seems something so massive happened that Ezra yelled: āThe series is over! How can we have a Series if THAT happened? We dont have a Series if THAT. JUST. HAPPENED!!!!ā
The only thing massive enough to end the series is Hm getting the ultimate power in one way or another. (everything else from reveal to betrayal and death is just an obstical to overcome in the plot, but Hm getting the ultimate power is presented to us as instand game over!) And with the little context we got from them from just moments before it seems to actually fit?? WTF??? In the episode Iām trying to put together with the context here it seemes that through Kwami buster Hawkmoth has got both Plagg and Tikki and was able to power up through them without getting the ultimate power just yet because for that he needs the jewellery to channel the powers. So I guess now Hm would only need Lbs and Cns empty jewellery so he cant combine them and game over.
Both Veronika and Ezra are just seriously loosing it (but most of all him)
ālook how giant it is!ā āAnd much bigger!ā implying that we say whatever they talk about smaller before (for some reason my mind immediatly went to the giant butterly Hawkmoth head in the āoriginsā)
They are confused about how something (important) works
Something is there that we have seen in another episode before (1 Episode? Not sure but it has to be something rarely seen) + they are confused by it
something hilarious happened
a new ship can be merged in this episode (Maybe Marinette and Adrien with other Miraculousā? Maybe this is where weāll get Dragonbug and Snake Noir because at some point later in the episode they would have to get Tikki and Plagg back making DB and SN possible)
The puns (in english) are WILD
Someone is being very courageous
it seems to feel like a classic Ml episode but with so many new elements. Not something weāve seen before and I believe them! :D)
Ezra screams Part 8 + āThat thing is dangerous!ā
āHow are they gonna- (stop him/it/whatever?)ā <- Veronika
āHow are they gonna, THEY DONT HAVE A WAY!ā <- Ezra
Ezra screams part 9
Ezra gets to do something in the episode and I dunno what
āThats when that happpens??ā -> Veronika
āHe wants that!ā -> Ezra
A character we have seen more of this season is in this episode too
they fucking CLAPPED saying āfinally, yes!ā but it seems to be about something commen because Veronika seems to do it every time she wrapps up an episode
Adriens fucking parfume ad on a bench and neither of them remeber the words (SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME)
Hawkmoth moment + hilarious Hawky impression by Ezra saying āLadybug and Cat Noirā
Hm and probably Lb and Cn are inside it/something
There is a weird noise but is has a purpose
a thing is āhUngryā
Ezra and Veronika a little shook part 10
āThats so sad! :Dā -> Veronika (I fucking love that woman xD)
āDont do it! D:ā -> Ezra concerned af
But āheā wont do it. Veronika and Ezra are relieved
Both doing Cataclysm impressions
Ezra being our very own Ladybug and being very passionate about her catchphrase lines (āMiraculous LadybuuuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUG!!Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā (ļ¾āć®ā)ļ¾*:dļ¾ā§*:dļ¾ā§ )
THEY POUND IT! :D
He asks her if she knows a character near the end (she does) so Iām taking from that that there is an important new character coming up in future
huge episode for 3 charactersĀ Ā
Ezra repeats, one plagg moment was adorable
SHOOK PART 11
āThats a huge reveal!ā <- Ezra. āUnless he takes it back or she refuses" (my bets are on Gabriel revealing himself to be Hawkmoth to Tomoe. The contract they made in the beginning of the season, their growing partnership and some of Tomoes words in āIkari Gozenā make me highly suspicious for what the future holds. Her knowing him to be Hawkmoth and that their partnership turns out to be more twisted than we though wouldnt surprise me, if anthing i would be PUMPED for it!)
Itāll (probably)be a huge thing in s4
something happened that reminded Ezra of karate kid
someone is in a disguise and Veronika laughs
Cliffhanger that Ezra describs as ādarkā
no classroom episode, no ther students. āThis was like to the heart of the matter of the miraculous powers and hat they can do and finding out things that we have no idea they could do and it opens up the lens and shows you more of this world and how dark it CAN be!ā <- Ezra

people need to learn to think critically like fictional characters are fucking fictional they're not using real reasons like having big boobs no it's whatever dudebro is in charge choosing to have them unzip the outfit to show off their boobs
Especially if it's always the women who "want" to show off their assets and never the guys who āmake the decisionā to wear stuff like that - This theme is so evident that even shows like The Boys or films like Galaxy Quest (20 years ago) parodied it to excellence. so the connotation ofĀ āyou think thatās misogyny??? hmm??ā is so hilarious like. this is not some new, radical feminist notion.
On the other hand, shows or films can also highlight that it's a character making a decision. I remember watching Umbrella Academy and it really stood out to me that you had Klaus who wore the tightest, most revealing, definitely intended to be sexy clothes - a guy. But it's never sexualised or treated as "empowering" - it's just the way he dresses, there is no montage of him empowering himself wearing these outfits, the camera doesn't go up and down his body. He's a disaster boy and that's how he dresses.
We can also think of Avatar. We have a lot of female characters - Azula, who prefers armour, Mai, who has this long goth-looking coat that conceals her many knives, Toph who wears in a tom-boyish fashion that is also a rebellion against her up-bringing, Katara who wears her traditional coat throughout the show. So when we see Ty Lee wearing a crop top, it highlighted as an actual choice to wear something that reminds her of her favourite place, the circus (yeah weāre even given background on that one). Plus we have some cultural context - for example, the outfits from The Beach are episodes by actual traditional outfits that exist so in a show that draws on various Asian cultures, it makes sense that a character woudl wear an outfit like that.Ā
I also brought up Lorna's outfit in that scene in The Gifted (that she has in my icon). Throughout the show, she wears expensive, elegant (goth) clothing when she's with the Hellfire Club and less expensive, messy clothing when she's with the poorer Underground. And she's surrounded by female characters who usually all have a rather distinctive style, none of them sexualised - and that outfit isn't sexualised either when she wears it. So even without agency, that is how you portray that someone chose to wear that outfit.
But in most superhero or spy flicks, we donāt even find out where they get their outfits or itās literally just spelt out that someone else developed this. For the heck of it, I literally just went through all the promo pics for the standard-version vault hunters in Borderlands to see whose wearing something that reveals any skin on their chest below the collar bones:
#Borderlands 1: Lilith, the only female playable character has a deep. All the guys are covered up

Borderlands 2: Maya, the only female playable character, has a turtleneck - with a boob window. All the guys are covered up.Ā

Borderlands the Pre-Sequel: For the first time, we have two female characters. One, Athena, is fully-covered up! Nisha...has a crop-top and some cleavage. While sheās on an adventure on a moon.

Borderlands 3: keeping up with the 2 female characters on the team. One is wearing a crop-top, the other has cleavage.Ā Apparently, these characters allĀ āchoseā to wear these outfits. But with 1 exception, all womenĀ āchoseā to wear something sexy. What a coincidence.Ā Another example that always dumbfounded me even as a kid was Winx Club. Literally all the girls either wear mini-skirts or crop tops or magically turn into creatures that wear magical mini-skirts or crop tops. The only exception are older characters like the headmistresses, the guys who are all completely covered, and those two witch side-characters who are not traditionally beautiful (which is a huge plot-point). They canātĀ āchooseā an outfit like that if they magically turn into it.Or letās look at the Avengers - Black Widow and Maria Hill both seem to have made theĀ ādecisionā to wear a tight bodysuit paired that they both decided to partially unzip in the front. Also remember how long BW was the only female character on the team. You know. Until Wanda joined them.
.... sure glad she made aĀ ādecisionāAnd Iām not going to pretend I know much about DC but letās look at the Justice League:

āBut sheās from a warm island!ā - yeah and Aqua Man is isolated against the freezing temperatures of the ocean, he should be sweating his ass off thereLetās see who made theĀ ādecisionā to show skin in X-Men First Class:

I wonder about the corresponding villain team-

(also letās not forget that literally all major female characters in X-Men First ClassĀ ādecidedā to strip at some point)Itās really interesting how we women are a hive mind. Or as this 30-something tumblr user said:Ā ā Girl wants to flaunt her stuff and prove she still can fight, let her!ā Dude, Iām not stoppingĀ āherā, but honestly, itās not rebellion anymore. It used to be. The short dresses in Star Trek TOS wereĀ ārebellionā - and the fact that itās interpreted as misogyny today is an interpretation happening before a completely different background. Except in 2009 -

itās not a rebellion anymore.Ā
Ah ya know. The girls and their decisions-

Curating your social media feed to decrease negativity
K so we all know what a downer social media can be sometimes, and yet it can be an important way to connect with people on the internet. SO here are some tips for curating your social media feed so itās less likely to be a suckfest that makes you lose faith in humanity.
Knowledge is power: follow people who teach you stuff
Educators, libraries, history buffs, computer programmers, anyone who talks about things youāre interested and/or want to learn more about. Some of my favorites: @othmeralia -- This is the blog of a chemistry museum in Philadelphia. I visited there when I was 18 and loved it and got SO EXCITED when I found them on tumblr a few years later. @fuckyeahhistorycrushes -- Awesome historical figures you may have never heard of. Often highlights attractive folks. @thescalex -- science dude and writer (also a good friend of mine). He often posts cool science photos and videos. He and I take credit for each otherās usernames. @jstor -- yes that place where you hunt down academic sources while writing papers in college. Sounds like theyād be a boring blog to follow? WRONG. This blog is gold. @gladyourenothere -- pics of vintage postcards and what people of bygone days wrote on them @yesterdaysprintās -- one of my absolute FAVE blogs, featuring bizarre and hilarious headlines and newspaper clips from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. @smithsonianlibraries -- exactly what it sounds like: cool stuff from the Smithsonianās libraries. Lots of art and books. @beautifulmedievalmanuscripts -- also exactly what it sounds like. Loads of pictures of really pretty illuminated manuscripts. @histsciart -- very cool historical science art @ahencyclopedia -- a history encyclopedia with lots of cool pictures @sineads, @thecostumevaultblog, @historicaldress -- all really great historical fashion blogs. @digitalpubliclibraryofamerica -- more historical pictures! (I have a type). Could be anything from pictures of historical figures to digitized ephemera from decades past.
Art, cuz pretty
There are LOADS of great artists/art blogs on social media in all of the mediums. Sculptors, potters, painters, photographers, comic/book illustrators, crazy cake decorators, calligraphers, you name it. Not only does following them make your feed a happier place, it can help get the artists more exposure. Some I like: Painters/illustrators/etc: @theartofanimation -- this blog features art from various artists. @cloverkin -- I have four of her prints hanging in my house @locirodrawsstuff -- and two of hers @mienar, @heikala, @prinsomnia -- illustrators and comic artists @welovewaves -- tbh Iām not sure if this is one artist or mulitple, but the art ranges from cool to trippy Photographers (mostly of nature and stuff): @juliamstarr @photocosma @amcapturingĀ @magic-spelldust @xxluminescence -- a blog that focuses on pictures of cool lamps + other light sources @frederick-ardley Writers: @maggie-stiefvater @neil-gaiman Sculptors/potters/clayworkers/cool thing makers (it should be noted that I also have a Type when it comes to sculpture blogs so please seek out what fits your preferences):Ā Cutesy clay critter types: @bon-appeteats, @plushlikecreaturesgallery, @quequinoxart, @rivalmit, @emilysculpts, @evgenyhontor, @mijbilcreatures Potters: @foxtail-pottery, @andrewclarkpottery, @moolric-ceramics, @jtceramics, @skeletaldropkick (and yes their pottery is just as cool/quirky as their name). @genuslocii -- Outdoor sculptures and street art @sculpture-center -- features lots of different sculptorsĀ
Art curators/bloggers/museums @sophiegunnol -- modern stuff @almostarts -- weird/cool art, lots of it 3D @frickfineartslibrary -- a library focusing on art @didoofcarthage -- historial stuff ā¦.and there are a lot more but this section is big enough so Iāll stop here. Point is there are people out there making your favorite kinds of art and they have great Tumblrs.
CASTLES
Because whose social media feed doesnāt need more castles? I recommend: @castlesandmedievals -- cool castles from all around the world @bibliotheca-sanctus -- this is actually libraries but libraries that are like in gorgeous palaces and shit (as a librarian I also have a bias towards libraries)Ā
Follow the funnies
Humor is always a good way to brighten the day, or your dash. @effinbirds -- Old-timey illustrations of birds with rude captions @badsciencejokes -- all the science puns @outofcontextdnd -- really weird things people say while playing RPGs, only without the context of why they were said (not that the context makes some of them any better).
Feed your inner bookworm
Lots of folks have great book-based blogs. Some focus on photography, others on reviews, usually itās a good mix of both. Some of my faves: @theboywhoreadsbooks -- pretty pictures and book recs. Includes LGBT+ book recs. @paperfury -- ALL THE PRETTY RAINBOW BOOKSHELVES. @coffee-bookss -- if you like the books and coffee/tea aesthetic, this blog is for you.
This list is only THE TINIEST SLIVER OF A FRACTION of the cool stuff here on Tumblr (and clearly reflects my bias toward history and art). Reblog and tag the blogs that make your feed better! Note: while this post gives examples of folks to follow here on Tumblr, the same principles apply for other social media sites. On Facebook I like Great Big Story and Atlas Obscura to get posts about historical + present day cool people and places, and on Twitter I like Maggie Stiefvater (for her wonderful sense of humor) and the Library/Librarian of Congress (for all their cool information about all sorts of stuff). Lemme know if I should do a post about cool folks to follow on those platforms too. Go forth and improve your social media experience!

Lol, not for that reason, although I would love it if he did ask me out.
Do you ever turn your phone off because you donāt want to talk?
The only time I ever did that was after Ashlyn died because I was mad at Nick because he wouldnāt stop playing video games with his friends to come over.
Have you ever been to a gay pride parade?
Not a parade but I went to the pride festival in DC this past weekend.
Would you take your dream job if it were out of the country?
More than likely. Iām in a position where I could right now.
What is your zodiac sign?
Libra
What do you like to do when youāre home alone?
Sing very loudly.
Should the guy always pay for the date?
No. Iām hella independent and most of the time I hate when other people pay for shit.
What kind of music calms you down?
Most music calms me down.
Who did you last go to a park with?
I went walking on a path/river thing with sunshine this past weekend. Itās not really a park but like idk?
Have you ever been robbed?
My iPod got stolen when I was like 12.
When was the last time you were on an airplane?
Last week.
Are you currently crushing on someone?Ā
Yeah.
Do you think your crush likes you back?
I actually donāt know how he feels? I know he liked me at one time and then a thing happened and we accepted that we couldnāt actually be together but then we were together and it felt really rightĀ and I donāt know how he feels now.
Is anyone currently crushing on you?
Other than him probably not.
Have you ever been in a long term relationship?Ā
Yes two.
Have you ever been asked out?Ā
Yes.
Have you ever asked someone out?Ā
I've pushed someone to ask me out but thatās the closest.
Have you ever kissed your crush?Ā
Yes.
Has your crush ever kissed you?Ā
Yes.Ā
Are you more of a flirt or a hopeless romantic?Ā
Both
Do you have a crush on the person you last kissed?
Yes.
Have you ever confessed your feelings knowing they were unrequited?Ā
Lol story of my life.
If the person you like/love was with you right now, what would you say/do?
Um we would probably be cuddling and talking or kissing honestly.Ā
Have you ever broken up with someone?Ā
Yes.
Have you ever been broken up with?Ā
Not officially. Only for a break and then he begged for me to take him back.
Do you like cuddling?Ā
I LOVE IT
Have you ever had romantic feelings for a best friend?
Thatās usually how it works for me.
Tell me about your crush:
Hair color?Ā
Brown
Eye color?Ā
Brown or green(? Iām pretty sure theyāre brown and I suck I know)
Age?
Weāre the same age but he will not tell me his birthday so
Build?Ā
Heās a little bit taller than me, heās not scrawny but heās not big either, like the perfect dad bod.
Clothing style?Ā
He barely has any clothes. He wears like jeans and t shirts and shorts he can find on sale basically.Ā
Stereotype?Ā
He's a TOTAL nerd and Iām so into it.
Hobbies?Ā
Computer stuff. He likes techy stuff and board games.
Are they your type?Ā
I donāt really have a type. He's got a killer personality and heās SO sweet and charming and thatās what gets me.Ā
When did you started liking them?Ā
Like January I think?
Do you talk to him/her everyday?Ā
Not everyday.
Do you talk about them to your friends?Ā
Yes Colby lets me talk about him all the time.
Do you like hearing their voice?Ā
Yeah, itās nice.
Do you like receiving text messages from them?
Um, yeah? That seems like a weird question.
Do you like their laugh/giggles?Ā
His laugh is adorable.Ā
When you see them, are you shy?Ā
NO he makes me feel so comfortable. Iāve never felt so comfortable around someone I wasnāt dating.
One day will you be with him/her?
Honestly, probably not but maybe?
Do you get jealous when he/she talks to the opposite sex?Ā
No. This is weird, but we actually encourage each other to get out there and be with other people since we really canāt have each other and weāve accepted that.
Will you wait for him/her, to be yours?
I honestly don't want anything right now, so Iām willing to wait for now. Once Iām settled and know what I want in life Iāll move on if were still not together.Ā
Are they more shy or outgoing? Ā
He's outgoing
Y'all have the same group of friends?
NoĀ
Does your crush smell nice? Ā
I mean, yeah. He doesnāt wear cologne or body spray or anything but his normal human smell was nice?
Does your crush have a nice smile?
That goofy smile tho (yes).
Are they kind to you? Ā
Yes he is SO sweet it hurts.
Are y'all considered friends or acquaintances? Ā
Weāre friends.Ā
Whenās the last time you saw them?
Saturday.
Do you have their phone number? Ā
Yeah but we usually talk through snapchat.
Is your crush talkative or more of a listener?
He's a talker but heās a good listener too.Ā Ā Ā
Can they speak more than one language? Ā
90% sure he can speak at least some German.Ā
Where did y'all meet? Ā
Work.
Do they live close to you? Ā
No. He's literally over 500 miles away.
Have you ever been to their house? How about their bedroom?
Yes and yes.
Do you even vaguely believe your crush is interested in you?Ā
I answered this earlier. Itās complicated. Ā
If given the chance, would you have sex with them?
Yes.
Have you ever hugged or kissed your crush? Ā
Yes.
Ever seen em naked? Do you wanna? Ā
I have, and IĀ wouldnāt say no to doing it again.
Does your crush have long hair? Ā
No itās super short.
Do you think youāll lose contact with your crush within 5 years?
I hope not but maybe.
Is your crush more naughty or good/innocent? Ā
He can be both.
Is your crush gay/straight/bisexual/transgender? Ā
When I asked him he said ābi-ishā soĀ
Is your crush a freak? Sexually speakingā¦
Iād call it adventurous and experienced.
Is your crush a virgin? Ā
No.
Do they have any pets?
No.Ā
Do they have a job? If so, where do they work?
Yes he has a job at a company which Iām not going to name.Ā
Do you know if they have an STD or not?
If he does he hasnāt told me, and itās kind of common courtesy to tell someone you have an STD if you sleep with them soooooĀ Ā
What kind of music are they into? Ā
Um, rock probably? He also likes musicals so thereās that.Ā
Their fave color? If you donāt know just guess
His favorite color is blue (even though heās blue/green colorblind).Ā
How long have you known em? Ā
Less than a year.
Their fave type of food? Guess if you donāt know
I donāt know but probably like burgers cause he tried to take me to a bar for food.Ā
When will you see your crush again?
Quite possibly never which is literally awful to think about. Hopefully sometime in the future.
Is your crush extremely confident?
Heās pretty confident.
Whatās ultimately stopping you from making them yours?
Distance.

DigiFes 2016 Special Drama - liveblogging & random thoughts
I decided to give the subbed Special Drama a second watch and do a little write up on it, because this may be the funniest thing tri. has given us so far.
If you havenāt watched it yet, please DO IT NOW! It really must be seen to be appreciated fully, as the Voice Actors are fantastic in this and itās particularly satisfying to hear the audienceās reactions - proving that the running gags in the series are pretty much universal.Ā
Oh, and a huge thanks to onkei-kun for allowing us to access this gift!
The drama starts with a brief recap video with scenes from Saikai and Ketsui. Yay! Nothing like being reminded of the kids happy, normal lives with their Digimon before all the bad things happened and their lives were wrecked!Ā
By the way, regarding the timeline: this beach trip actually fits the series. It takes place āin one summer dayā, after the trip to the hot springs, but before Mystery Man shows up. Looking at the timeline of Ketsui, this probably happens after the Monday when Taichi & co talk to Nishijima at the school and before the chain of events that starts when Ā Orgemon appears and culminates with the school festival. This explains why everyone is still so happy-go-lucky.Ā
TL;DR: it may take some mental gymnastics, but this story fits the main timeline and so, presumably, it could be consideredĀ ācanonā.
Thereās something utterly endearing about the voice actors, especially the veteran ladies who are all sorts of adorable. I love how some of them are wearing clothes that reflect their characters - Shigematsu Atori stans particularly hard for Piyomon! Mimiās actress is wearing a dress with cactuses (cacti?)!Ā
I only recently found out Tentomon isnāt played by an old man but rather by a very talented and prolific young actor, so heās automatically my favourite (along with Legend Takeuchi Junko).
Speaking of which, itās now established that Tentomon is a major enabler in Koushirouās new-found lewdeness, which is both hilarious and frightening when you think about it. Koushirou stealing his dadās camera is bad enough, but Tento encouraging him to take bikini pics is a new low.
This one belongs in a āDigimon out of contextā blog.
Agumonās food gags are getting old fast (Tailmon agrees). I still laughed though because THAT VOICE.
Also, it seems Mimi dragged Jou into this mess, which is both expected and admirable.
JouxMimi fans, rejoice!
The point of this trip is to introduce Jou to Meiko, which the movies kind of had to skip over. Canāt blame them for that, but thankfully we get a nice little moment out of this.Ā
Jou calls her Mochizuki-kun, which is pretty cute!
Jou, the only person who would match Meiko in an apology contest.
I realise tri. has made me incapable of interpreting any of Takeruās lines in a straight-faced way, but cāmon, this is TOTALLY intentional.
In case youāre wondering, Yamato and Taichi are still on a break.
Describe tri. in three words.
Even Hikari is starting to troll Yamato and Taichi. Takeru is a bad influence.
This applies to cooking, bands, holding grudges, and career options.
You know, asking Agumon to light a fire is not a bad idea considering that it probably saved them from starving plenty of times when they were kids.
Does this grill belong to Hiroaki? Is that why Yamato is so against Agumon destroying it?
Oh, *BURN*.
Someone take the url āBacon Yamatoā since I believe Knife of Ramen is already taken.Ā
And yes, Agumon, Iām sure heās delicious.
Takeru quitely slips in anĀ āonii-chanā at this point because heās the literal worst.
Anyway, Yamato being a barbecue aficionado, expert, and utter perfectionist is one of my favourite new random facts about him. Thank you, tri.
Quick, someone write a AU when Yamato presents the Japanese version of Kitchen Nightmares. Iām sure he and Gordon Ramsey would hit it off.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAH THIS IDIOT
Sidenote, but in addition to a perfect voice, Jouās VA has the best facial expressions.
Whereās the lie, though.
Koushirou fainting after Mimi poses for him in a swimsuit requires zero animation to land, and itās AWESOME.
Digimon: doing jokes about teen pervs without actually showing any questionable content. Hooray!
Mimi, HA POWAH
Taichi and Yamato blushing for girls in bikinis is my new aesthetics.
Also, faithful to the spirit of tri., this doesnāt really specify who theyāre blushing for. I mean, itās Sora, but Meiko is also mentioned and Mimiās around so all your shipping fantasies remain intact! tri. truly is a gift to all fans.
This suave motherfucker.
Itās undeniably canon that Takeru has a weird obsession with Meikoās cuteness and if it wasnāt for the age difference weād all be freaking out about this ship.
Itās also undeniably canon that Takeru likes older women and you cannot convince me otherwise.
AGE IS JUST A NUMBER, BITCHES
Takeru immediately compliments the other girls because you would want to keep your options open while showing the other guys how itās done.
The voice of reason in this mess and probably why Takari never happened.
Mimiās right. Taichi should learn from Takeru. In fact, everyone should take notes.
I literally went on Merriam Webster to look upĀ āsmartyā because Iām adopting that word from now on.
Please, Yamato, spend more time with your brother.
As people have pointed out, this shows that the only reason why Yamato ever got with Sora is because Takeru pulled all the strings and told him what to do at all times.
Exactly, Yamato. Good strategy.
Takeruās VA is literally Takeru IRL and Iām dying at his perfect expressions.
Feminist Queen Mimi is right as always.
YAS! Drop all the men and steal Taichiās goggles while youāre at it!
Because heās smarty AND smart.
Honestly, Ā the way these Digimon talk about their partners, thereās no way anyone can have self-esteem issues in this team! A Digimon is a girlās best friend!
āYou smell niceā andĀ āIt feels good getting hugs from youā. Only Takeru could make these pick up lines work!
āItās better to be pathetic than to be a pervertā - life lessons from the Digimon Adventure boys.Ā
I simply imagine Gomamon saying this at random points in Jouās life.
Obigatory JOOOOOOOOOOO moment! Take a shot!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH MARRY ME JOU Iām human
Now that compliments have been delivered, we can finally get to the damn barbecue.
No Mimi, you cannot swim AFTER you eat!
RIP Mei!Ā
And because this is tri, you have to end a comic sketch in a tragic note and eerie foreshadowing! FUN!
In Conclusion:Ā This very short drama has a fantastic script that totally gets the characters, the amazing cast gets to shine, and itās FUNNY as hell. Please, TOEI, do more of these in the future. Weāll buy it.
Also, can we please have a spin-off series dedicated to Takeruās life as a professional Ā troll and fuckboi? Cause Iād watch the shit out of that and I know Iām not alone.

We happy few
I wanted to share this story. It's quite a personal story, so might not appeal to everyone, but I wanted to get it down.
My dad, Bryan, died in September 2006, aged 59. Pretty suddenly. Without any real warning.
Don't worry, this is a happy story. I promise. But we need the context first. That was the sad bit.
Dad had always said that, when his time came, he wanted his ashes scattered at the top of Tryfan - a distinctive-looking mountain in Snowdonia, North Wales. We had climbed it many times together and it had become a kind of touchstone for us.
We mentioned this fact in his funeral service and we also mentioned that my older brother Howard and I were planning to take him up that mountain.
(By the way, if you're ever passing, you can't miss it. It kind of broods in the low cloud off the A5 and looks like a massive half-buried dinosaur, with its spiny, bristly backbone poking up into the sky.)

Anyway, after the funeral, having a beer in Dad's favourite pub with all the mourners, conversation turned to Tryfan. Something extraordinary happened. Seven men - pretty much one by one - approached us over time and told us, quite firmly: "We are coming with you to take your Dad up that hill."
Who were those seven men?
Well, we need to rewind a tiny bit. Actually, a big bit. To my childhood.
As an endlessly inquisitive and probably annoying kid, my parents decided a good use of my time - and a blessed relief for them - would be for me to join the cub scouts. And, because my brother was older, and so he didn't miss out, he could join the scouts.
We immediately loved all things involved with being a cub or a scout. The outdoor activities, the knots, the knives, the fires, the sense of common purpose, the trips and adventures, the camping. It suited us two council house kids right down to the groundsheet.
As I moved up to the scouts to join my brother, Dad would sometimes pop along to meetings or camps and see what we were up to. Terrible mistake, as anyone who has ever been involved in voluntary organisations will tell you. Before he had the chance to say "Be prepared" he was cajoled into becoming a helper.
And not too long after that, before he had the chance to say "Wait a bloody minute" he was installed as the scout leader. My old man - leading a bunch of unruly, spotty lads out on camps and holidays, through night hikes and climbing expeditions, down rivers and up valleys. It was odd for me to get used to at first - my Dad, the bloke who only ever went into the garden with a heavy sigh, was striding about, kitted up in outdoor clothing, pointing a stick in the direction of a place that he figured a tent should be pitched, while simultaneously pointing an accusatory roll-up cigarette at whichever boy who was lagging behind.
And he loved it. He revelled in it. He got a kick out of thinking up exciting and challenging things for the scouts to do - and he delighted in the joy us boys derived from the adventures.
The lads loved him. His occasionally irascible, often hilarious, moods, would only serve for us to band together and laugh, rebel a little bit, and yet be pleased he was the leader.
My Mum, too, got a lot out of it. Let's be honest, it meant all three men in the house were out of her hair for chunks of time - which must have been a relief - but I know she enjoyed seeing us off, seeing us back, and (not so much) wearily working through the washing that we brought back with us.
Stick with me, we're nearly at the end of the 'flashback' bit.
When you get too old for scouts, you can go to the Venture Scouts (or you could then). In our area, there were a couple of Venture Scout Units (VSUs) - but they didn't feel very welcoming. There was also a feeling that many of us scouts wanted to stick together, not go off to another unit. Perhaps some of them would have thrived, perhaps not.
Enter a guy called Jon Cook, a Venture Scout himself, a few years older than us, who had come along to help Dad run the scouts. Somehow - I don't quite know how - they cooked up a plan."Let's launch our own Venture Scout Unit. We can keep these scouts together, make a little bit of history, and have a lot of fun being in charge."
So they did that. They started Alpha VSU. The nickname - pretty sure Dad came up with this - was 'The Dung Beetles'. And they welcomed the first group of members.
So, eight young men became the inaugural members. My brother Howard, of course. And then Richard Brandon, the twins David and Paul Campbell, Steve Good, Simon McGlen, Lee Roberts and Paul Wright.
(I wasnāt an inaugural member - I was younger than those guys)
I think it's fair to say those ensuing years were among their best. Young men, forging forward, growing up, learning what it was that made them tick, safe in the bonds of a tight group, able to make mistakes, willing to accept others. All led by Dad, riding side-saddle with Jon Cook - that mercurial, ever-curious, smiling, benevolent lunatic.
You're ahead of me, aren't you? You've worked out who the men were who wanted to take my Dad "up the hill".
Yep - it's seven of those eight founder members. The Dung Beetles. (Steve Good fell off our radar, despite our best efforts to find him. If you ever read this, Steve, we still wonder how you are. We'd love to hear from you).
So, on a May bank holiday weekend in 2007 (we had to wait for the winter to be over) those men congregated in North Wales. They came from all over the country and assembled at the foot of Tryfan.
We were joined by some friends and family - I remember Mum carried Dad's ashes for a section of the walk to the base of the mountain - and we climbed that beast. All of us less fit and less agile than before. All of us breathing just a little bit harder than was strictly good for us.
But we got him up there - led by Jon. My brother and I sprinkled Dadās ashes at the peak of the mountain, splashed it with some whisky, and we all drank a toast.
After descending, we spent the evening in the local pub, sharing stories, remembering the old days, and comparing injuries.

(Sorry for poor quality pic. I should note that Jackie - Jonās wife - was also with us. And outclimbed us all.)
You know that line in City Slickers? "What was your best day? What was your worst day?" - Well, mine was that day. The same day. Still bereft at losing my Dad so suddenly, heavy with sadness at taking his ashes to their final resting place. But utterly brimming with pride that we were doing it - with those guys completely committed to the act. I knew then, and I noted it with a smile, that Dad would have found the whole thing acutely embarrassing and yet an amazingly powerful tribute to him.
That's the end of the flashback. Do the wavy hands and arms thing.
We're in 2017 now. I recently had to announce, annoyingly, that I am ill. Many old friends have been in touch. Including all those Dung Beetles. A tiny plan was hatched.
This week, on a May bank holiday weekend. Almost exactly 10 years since we hauled our sorry arses up that mountain, we all met again.
It wasn't as much of a quest ā it was in the much easier surroundings of a Euston pub, granted - but we decided this challenge should mainly involve beer, laughter and the search for a good curry.
All seven turned up. All of them. And so did Jon. 10 years later.

Among that group, there is a former soldier turned policeman, a paramedic who has spent years on air ambulances, a youth worker who works with disadavantaged children, small business owners, an electrical engineer, a train driver, and a guy who has spent a lot of his time being the 'eyes' for a blind adventurer who has driven race cars, parachuted, climbed mountains and all that kind of nonsense.
You can see why I'm proud to be associated with them, can't you? You can see how elastic these bonds are? The shorthand is immediate, the laughs are instinctive, the sense of belonging will never, ever go away.
That night was a flag in the ground for me, a marking of time passing but also of a time so fondly remembered. I had to write about it.
I found myself taking a mental snapshot. All of us, on the same patch of earth again, chatting like nothing had changed, yet also knowing that so much had.
And every minute I was with them, I couldn't get this Shakespeare quote out of my head. The one from Henry V.
"We few, we happy few. We band of brothers"

Yuri on Ice 2017/02/11 all night event report
Iām back from the event and Iāll write a report before going to sleep, mostly because Iām sure I will not be able to decipher my scribbles when I wake up...Ā Itās not the full talk show since you canāt record it and also I couldnāt possibly write down everything, but I tried to take note of most things, especially stuff that has never been mentioned elsewhere. In the end it became quite long so I guess I was able to get most of the stuff down...
Needless to say itās my notes, so other people might write about parts I omitted, etc. To be honest quite a few of the things they said especially in the beginning, like what the seiyuu think about their characters, is something Iāve read so many times in interviews that I could almost answer in their place, lol... I was a bit disappointed that one of the questions that was answered is the one about Chrisā mysterious acquaintance, because actually Kubo answered that in Pash already (itās in the Q&A part Iāll be translating later), and I hoped they would feature questions about stuff that hasnāt been explained yet. Well I guess not everybody reads interviews, but still...
Due to the format of the report you can find my comments here and there, mostly in brackets. Under the cut because itās long.
I forgot to mention something important: the ones participating in the talk show were Mitsurou Kubo, Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Yuuri), Junichi Suwabe (Victor), Kouki Uchiyama (Yurio).
The talk show was divided into 3 parts: short program, free skating, interviews. TheĀ āshort programā was mostly them saying basic things like impressions on the show etc, theĀ āfree skatingā was about curiosities and other things that can be said now that the anime is over, and theĀ āinterviewsā part was a Q&A (but they didnāt really keep the format for the SP and FS parts..)
I went to the live viewing, not the actual place where the event was held, but in this case there were no differences (no extras in either place). They published a new official picture that you probably have already seen.
After some introductions they started theĀ āshort programā, whose first topic wasĀ āhow do you feel about the character you played?ā.
Toyonaga said that he didnāt play Yuuri with his mind but with his heart, so his acting wasnāt really intentional but more spontaneous, in fact he doesnāt really remember how he acted him, what he remembers is mostly because he watched the anime afterwards. He also said that it was an honor to work so close to Suwabe and that they get along well (to which Suwabe initially jokedĀ ādo we?ā but then confirmed, lol).
Suwabe said that especially in the beginning it was hard to grasp Victorās character because heās different than ordinary people and also he canāt really relate to him, but after some time he decided that thinking too much was wrong and decided to play him in aĀ ādonāt think, feelā way (he really saidĀ ādonāt think, feelā in English, and I wonder how many in the audience could understand that, lol). So actually, much like Toyonaga, he doesnāt really remember how he acted. It was a very unusual character to play for him.
Toyonaga said that, since when he plays Yuuri itās really like heāsĀ ābecomingā Yuuri, he gets very nervous when heās asked, for example in events,Ā āsay this line from the show!ā orĀ āsay something as Yuuri!ā, because itās hard to suddenly get into that state of mind. At this point they also mentioned that they recently had to play the charactersā rolesĀ again for the collaboration with the browser gameĀ āShingeki no Bahamutā and they sounded amused. (I actually started the game last week for the sole purpose of playing the collaboration event... Iām sure someone will post pics when it starts)
Uchiyama said that Yurioās hairstyle changed and with that the impression he gave him changed too, but actually he didnāt really change the way he played him.
Kubo also said that she was so busy with the storyboard because of the tight schedule that she also doesnāt remember some things, like how she decided some parts, so actually when she watched the anime she could watch it with renewed feelings, as if she was just a viewer. She also said that some scenes turned out a bit different in the anime than they were in her original storyboard.
After this they were asked which scenes left a strong impression on them when they watched the broadcast.
Uchiyama mentioned Yurioās lines when he saysĀ āpigā, and the part where heās sentĀ ātrainingā at the shrine and waterfall by Victor. The others laughed because it was like āin the WHOLEĀ series are THESE the scenes that impressed you??ā.
Toyonaga said that for Yuuriās very first lines in episode 1 (before the OP, when he saysĀ āHe always surprises meā etc) he was actually told at what point of the story Yuuri says it. I mean, Yuuri narrates this part as if heās looking back on the past, and Toyonaga was told at what point of the story this happens, but he said that he's not going to reveal it and asked that people try to imagine when it is that Yuuri "narrates" this part. (I personally have no idea, though Yuuri doesnāt sound very cheerful so Iād argue that itās in one of theĀ ātenseā moments of the show, like ep 9 or the end of ep 11? But too little elements to judge) They mentioned that because of this narration fans made theories about Victor eventually dying, and Suwabe was likeĀ āVictor is alive!! And Makkachin too!!ā.
After this Suwabe said that neither now nor in the future he is going to reveal what he thought when acting the scenes in the anime. He said that of course he has his own interpretation and he played Victor based on that, but that since this anime has many elements that can be read in lots of different ways he is not going to disclose his personal views and wants fans to interpret it each in their own way. The only thing he confirmed is that he likes Makkachin, lol. (To be honest, itās basically the same as what Kubo says, but Suwabe articulated it better. As a side note, Suwabe is a very good talker, always expresses his point clearly and is really careful about what he says and how it could affect who listens, while I think Kubo has a messy way of speaking which is sometimes hard to follow, even in written interviews, and I believe this is what is causing some controversies)
Suwabe also said that, as a viewer, the parking scene in episode 7 touched his heart. Here they mentioned that YOI was featured on the TV Asahi music programĀ āMusic Stationā on Friday night because this scene was aired too, and they laughed making some comments about how the scenes they showed wereĀ ābarely ok for prime timeā. (Itās because they basically showed scenes like when Yuuri and Victor are with their foreheads touching and Yuuri tells himĀ āplease only watch meā, etc, which are scenes that would make anyone misunderstand the point of the show if they donāt watch them within the context... But I swear this time it was better, because the last time YOI was featured on Music Station they showed the scene at the end of ep 7 too... I really wish theyād show more figure skating scenes so that it doesnāt just look like a BL anime about skaters, sigh. By the way this time it was featured because āHistory Makerā was ranked #11 in a ranking of popular anime/drama theme songs)
Uchiyama said that he was impressed by all of Yurioās rude expressions like āpigā, and especially when in ep 10 he told VictorĀ āa ring received from a stupid animal is just rubbishā. He saidĀ āIām surprised he could even come up with such a wording at allā (Yurio actually saysĀ ākachikuā in that line, which meansĀ ālivestock/cattleā and in Japanese itās very much like calling someone anĀ āanimal without a brainā). The seiyuu thought he saidĀ ākachikuā because he used to call YuuriĀ āpigā, but Kubo said that actually it was meant to be a pun withĀ āKatsukiā because it sounds similar toĀ ākachikuā. (Though to be honest Yurio is definitely speaking Russian here so he couldnāt possibly make a pun withĀ āKatsukiā andĀ ākachikuā, lol.) Suwabe said that he likes the scene where Yurio tells LiliaĀ āIāll gladly give you my body and soul if that can make me winā.
Kubo said that in the beginning she inserted everyday life scenes so that the viewers could get familiar with the characters, and though they did their best to make the skating scenes interesting too she was scared that people would complain that they preferred the everyday life scenes, but luckily she didnāt receive this kind of comments. She also said that she likes how Hasetsu is mentioned again various times throughout the show (like in ep 10 indeed).
Here the guy doing the MC, which is also the guy that voiced one of the commentators in the anime and is actually an announcer for TV Asahi, said that when YOI was airing the real GP series was being held too, and that commenting for YOI had just the same feeling as commenting for real TV matches. Kubo said that when she wrote the storyboard she actually listened to sport live commentary on TV and wrote it down to use it as reference for writing the live reporting in YOI.
Toyonaga said that when there were no monologues during the skating scenes he just watched them as a spectator. Actually when they did the recording, apart from the first episodes, the anime footage was not ready yet so they did most of the recording watching Kenji Miyamotoās footage. Uchiyama said that Yurioās skating was performed by a woman, and Kubo praised her saying that she was really good.
Toyonaga said that sometimes he had mixed thoughts in his mind when playing Yuuri during the skating scenes, because part of his mind was thinking (looking at Miyamotoās footage)Ā āI wonder how this turns out in the animeā, but since he had to act he actually had to picture in his head how the scene would turn out.
They mentioned Seung-gilās costume (the rainbow-colored one) and they all agreed that the gap between the costume and Seung-gil was hilarious. Kubo said that actually when she ordered the costume she thought that Chacottās designer would create something that would make Seung-gil look like a cool guy, and she didnāt expect it to be something flamboyant like the current one. They said that it looks like it has origami cranes attached to it, and Kubo commented that he looks like āa new species of bird discovered in the tropicsā.
Still regarding costumes, they said that the mismatch between Georgiās physique and his costume was also amusing. The seiyuu commented how Georgi was the most popular character among male members of the staff, but Kubo said that actually later on he was substituted by Otabek, because all guys found Otabek cool.
Regarding the last episodes Kubo said that Nobunari Oda wanted to participate in YOI himself and so they gave him a part, but it happened after the series was already airing, it wasnāt planned from the start. For StĆ©phane Lambiel it was even more a last-minute decision, because it was really sudden and they had to redraw a part of episode 12 (Hiramatsu did this) to feature him and had to re-record the scene. The episode was going to air on Wednesday, and they called Suwabe a few days before asking him to come back to recording on Monday (yes, 2 days before the airing..) for the scene with Lambiel. Kubo also said that when she mentioned that Victorās blades are gold because they took inspiration from Lambielās he showed them his skating shoes and she was very happy about that.
Suwabe commented how YOI was very popular in the anime event in Taiwan he went to recently, and they all agreed on the fact that itās really popular overseas. They also briefly mentioned Evgenia Medvedeva but didnāt comment in detail though they were all kind of giggling.
TheĀ āshort programā part ended here, yes it wasnāt very short.. And they started theĀ āfree skatingā part.
They asked Kubo how she got into figure skating, and she said that in the beginning she was just a very light fan, like she would sometimes watch it on TV when it was on, but she had a friend who was really into it. She got more passionate after traveling to Europe with Yamamoto to do research for the series. Yamamoto explained her a lot of stuff about figure skating, and itās also Yamamoto the one who was a hardcore fan from the start. (Kubo praised Yamamoto lots of times during this event and emphasized the fact that many things were her idea. I have the feeling that she feels a bit bad because since sheās the mostĀ āvisibleā one she gets all the appreciation by fans, even though Yamamoto had as big a part in creating YOI if not bigger, since she was the one who originally came up with it and was involved in the making until the end, even after the manga storyboard was completed)
She mentioned that recently she spent 18 days in Europe with Yamamoto, but she pointed out that itās not for YOIās 2nd season or something like that, they just had decided that after YOIās end she and Yamamoto would go on a trip to Europe together. They went to see the European Championships in Ostrava (Czech Republic) and Art on Ice in Zurich. She mentioned how itās really hard to get tickets for figure skating in Japan while in Europe itās easier.
She told an anecdote about when she was in Ostrava. She said that she spotted two girls cosplaying Yuuri and Victor (not really full cosplays, just partial) at the ice rink, and after the tournament was over they were taking pictures in front of the rink. When they saw Kubo they spoke to her in Japanese and asked her if she was Japanese (they didnāt understand who she was and she didnāt mention it), then they told her she could take pictures if she wanted, and she was amused because of this curious happening (but she did take pictures). She also said that when she posted on Instagram that she was in Ostrava a person replied to herĀ āif you want I can show you around!ā, and when she checked her profile she realized it was the girl that was cosplaying Victor at the ice rink. And she said that she even saw her again on a train when they were leaving Ostrava, but she didnāt have the courage to reveal who she was. (I must say this is quite a coincidence...! I wonder if the girls will find out about this now that Kubo has said it). By the way of course she was really happy to find YOI fans, but she said she preferred not to post the picture online because Japan has different cosplay manners than many other countries in the world and she didnāt want to look like she approved of cosplaying at an ice rink when thereās a competition going on (in Japan it would be super taboo to cosplay at any ice rink, or any public space actually, unless you received a permit to do so).
Toyonaga said that he sometimes receives fanletters from overseas fans written in Japanese and he really appreciates the effort. He was amused by a fan whose letter started out very politely but then somehow turned into plain Japanese (with no honorifics etc). Suwabe said that he too receives letters from overseas and also he receives a lot of replies in other languages on Twitter. Kubo said that currently most of the replies she gets on Twitter are actually from foreigners and she is always worried when she wants to write a pun because it would be hard to translate into another language. She also mentioned how sometimes she gets replies from people saying in Spanish āI canāt understand what you say (because itās in Japanese)ā and she was like āI canāt understand what you say either...!ā. (To be honest, I really donāt understand why people send her replies in languages that are not English, especially the ones writing āI canāt understand!ā. Whatās the point in tweeting that to her?? She isnāt even very good at English, I think Yamamoto is better..)
Suwabe said that he likes how YOI is realistic but itās not just hyperrealistic and has some fantastic elements in it too, because he said they are balanced very well.
Kubo said that she is very happy about YOIās popularity but she feels that she didnātĀ absolutely create it alone and it was the result of many people working together, so now she actually wants to do something to repay YOI for all the good things it brought to her.
After this it was the end of the FS part and the start of the interview part, aka Q&A.
Q: What do you pay attention to when drawing the characters?
Kubo said that first of all she decided to create designs that would allow to distinguish the characters even when drawn in very simple deformed ways (like how she usually draws them in the autographed shikishi). Since Yuuri is the protagonist she created his design so that he would be easy for Hiramatsu to draw. She drew Victor in a very detailed way, but actually in the beginning she didnāt make his eyelashes so visible, because she usually doesnāt make eyelashes on male characters very evident. Victorās beautiful eyelashesĀ are something that was added in the anime, but she liked it and now she also has fun drawing them like that. Yurio is actually the character that she designed first, and she took inspiration from other male characters with blond hair and light eyes that she used to like, like Rabi from Madou King Granzort and Hyouga from Saint Seiya.
Toyonaga said that indeed in Kuboās storyboard he could understand the characterās expressions even when they are drawn deformed. Uchiyama commented that he misses reading the storyboard and that he wants more of it (in the audio commentary of the BD vol.2 he also says he really liked reading it). Kubo said that while in Europe with Yamamoto they decided the contents of the short manga that will be given as a present to the purchasers of all the BD or DVD volumes of the anime. She didnāt say what it would be about, but she said that it will notĀ contain all the characters and that Uchiyama will probably like it (so I guess Yurio has a nice role in it). She also vaguely mentioned Barcelona so it might be set around eps 10-12, but yeah it was really vague so we canāt know for sure.
Q: If you were a skater, who would you want as your coach?
Toyonaga said of course he would like Victor, but he also commented that probably sometimes Victor would really get on his nerves because there are moments when itās impossible toĀ understand what heās thinking. He also said that he wouldnāt mind JJās parents either, but Kubo said that they have a set of family customs, like sometimes you must hug them etc, so if youāre like Yuuri who prefers to be left alone youād probably feel super uncomfortable.
Suwabe said that Yakov must be an excellent coach because in the end all the best skaters were trained by him.
Regarding Celestino, Uchiyama commented that he was surprised at how heād say something as blunt asĀ āPhichit has a radiance that Yuuri hasnātā, considering that Yuuri used to be his pupil. They commented that he has a strong personality and that in the past we also see that he didnāt really get along well with JJ.
Uchiyama also said that he likes Lilia and Yakov, and that when they are together with Yurio they look visually striking, and almost like a family.
Kubo said that in Switzerland she spotted Alexei Mishin (the coach who was very likely the visual inspiration for Yakov) carrying a heart-shaped cushion that they threw to one of his students, and when they were outside he put it on his head, she guesses maybe because it was very cold. The picture of Yakov she uploaded on her Twitter after the talk show is a reference to that, lol.
Q: Who is the man together with Chris?
Kubo said heās a member of the Swiss Skating Federation and maybe he used to be an ice skater, and for some reason is caring for Chrisā cat (mentioning that he cares for Chrisā cat probably caused people to read between the lines, because many around me were giggling, lol). The character design for him was not really made by her but by the animators. She said that she doesnāt know his name butĀ that since she thinks he resembles Masumi from Glass no Kamen she calls himĀ āMasumiā.
Q: What figure skating technique would you like to perform?
Toyonaga said he would like to do hydroblading (he didnāt know the name, he visually described it and Kubo said the name), and that he wonders how skaters see the surroundings while performing this technique. He also said he would like to know how the world around you looks while youāre doing figure skating jumps.
Suwabe said he wants to do a 100-rotations jump, or a quad axel. He would like to be the first in the world to perform a technique.
Uchiyama saidĀ āthere isnāt really anything I would like to try myself (and here everyone laughed because really, the way heās just emotionless about things, without meaning to sound offensive or anything, is just amusing), but I wonder, donāt skaters get headaches when they do spins?ā Kubo said that, compared to Western athletes, the faces of Japanese athletes donāt really get red when they spin, like she said that Shizuka Arakawaās face never turned red. They concluded that it probably depends on the single personās constitution, on the way they spin and that maybe there are racial differences too.
This was the last question and then they just said the final greetings. In the end Kubo commented about the fact that YOI can be interpreted in various ways and that, even though in interviews they ask her details about the story and so she answers, she actually encourages people to interpret the series how they prefer, without necessarily being influenced too much by what she says in interviews. (And here I remind you something she said in the booklet for the BD vol.1, which is that itās fine to interpret the series how you prefer, but do not go around saying that your theory isĀ canon. In other words, she is fine with people creating their own headcanons and believing that they are right, but she would prefer that they do not try to force single interpretations onto other people unless they are officially confirmed. The recent Pash! interview actually gave me the impression that sometimes she is forced to point out some things because she sees people trying to convince others that their own interpretations are correct even though they are not supported by official material)
Beside that they all said the usual things aboutĀ āplease support the series because if many people support it maybe there will be a chance to see a sequel, since we all want to make one tooā.
Bonus random facts about the screening of the anime (in random order): -For the first episodes they used footage from the BDs, not from the TV airing. -In the cinema I went to people were mostly silent and almost no one used penlights, but lots of people cheered (and laughed) on Georgi and JJ. -During the scene at the end of episode 7 I thought peopleās reactions were very realistic, because you could hear muffled screeching, people holding their breaths and going likeĀ āahhhh...ā. I thought the audience watching the scene in the real arena within the anime must have sounded like that too, lol. -Thunderous applause when Phichit congratulated Victor and Yuuri for their āmarriageā in ep 10. -Not as many people singing along JJās song as I would have expected, probably because the lyrics are in English. -People giggling during the scene where we see Chrisā mysterious acquaintance. -The close up shot of Victorās naked ass from ep 1 on the huge cinema screen: priceless (Chrisā ass too). -All the close up shots of Yuuri and Victor all over each other on the huge cinema screen: priceless and more embarrassing to watch than the ass shots (I mean it in a positive way, lol). -The sound was very nice and you could hear the audienceās cheers much louder than from a TV or PC (for the first time I could hear people screamingĀ ādavai!ā at Yurio in Onsen on ICE). -Applauses at the end of every characterās performance, and most of the times after jumps as well. -People crying during Yuuri and YurioāsĀ last FS performance (and some during JJās as well). -The OP footage was only shown before ep 1 and the ED footage only after ep 7 (both times they were shown creditless). TheĀ āspecial EDā of ep 10 was shown too of course. No next episode previews.
Unrelated: I received a few questions via private message, I will get to them when I wake up...

I think David's family vacation was about damage control for his image. His tour isn't even sold out and they aren't big venues. It sure wouldn't hurt to be seen with Tea. At least he had some quality time with his kids instead of always being with someone that can't spell potatoes.
Disclaimer: all theories ahead.
1. I really really canāt imagine him doing something on that level just for publicity, or purposefully doing something that his kids donāt like/makes them uncomfortable/breaches their privacy, at least not for this purpose (PR? for the ātourās ticket sales??) that hasnāt really been addressed in other ways that would be much more straightforward. Also, actually, I feel that there still seems to exist a separation between the identities of Family!Dave and Rockstar!Dave, I feel he is just that type to become different people for different audiences.Ā
Despite his current shit, I still think he wouldnāt do THAT.Ā
2. As forĀ āquality timeā⦠D has said things in the past about that, hasnāt he? But heās also pretty much eaten every single word he ever said, hasnāt he? :lĀ
3. He is in a dreamworld: Also, he seems to believe that he is a ācelebrityā who isĀ above PR somehow ?? Lmao you never know with this dude. ????!!!?!!?!Ā
He is in a dreamworld 2: Iām saying he thinks he can live several separate lives and reap the benefits of all of them with no consequences :-)
He seems to not give a shit what people think, and I think this is a good characteristic, but David takes it too far. He has shown that he is flippant about the opinions of people WHO ACTUALLY MATTER is what I mean. Example: his childrenā¦
He is in a dreamworld 3: I could even believe that his kids donāt actually tell him how they truly feel about his current shit and David just believes that theyāre being āsupportiveā (if he can fall for Scammer Brad Davidsonās lies, he can fall for anythingā¦). Or if they are honest, and I hope they actually are, David also once said that he doesnāt ask for his kidās opinions, and I really fucking hate that he said that but maybe I am just taking that statement out of context by bringing it up for this argument or maybe he was being sarcastic no fucking clue but anyways it is something to consider. Because even if it were sarcastic, I saw that as a red flag. I just see it as crude, flippant, meant to be āfunnyā but not funny at all - a typical ā???ā statement that comes out of his mouth and eventually leads to a sour truth somewhere down the line. And Iāve already asserted (but its just my opinion) that he actually does tell the truth when he jokes or uses sarcasm. Sorry for this tangent but what I meanā¦
⦠is that, hasnāt he demonstrated already that he can live different lives (evidence: just like he can get up on that stage and transform into⦠that⦠uhm creature(strike) persona that can flail around as it does)?Ā
How would pics of his kids cringing at paps help his image?
Also, I donāt see any posing, just awareness of the cameras.Ā
Under the cut: I donāt see any other effort being made to address the low ticket sales, and discussing how David seems to actually be doing the opposite of progressing creatively byā¦. wasting time on a new distraction: a ādocumentaryā⦠and why does the guy need a documentary???? ā¦Another gimmicky souvenir (DVD) for Scammer Brad to āsellā/shill??? lmaoā¦..
thx anon, as for theĀ āpotatosā thingā¦. yeah :lā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.. :)
I donāt see any other effort being made to address the low ticket sales, example: no heightened promo since the initial announcement. And if there were, I would expect it to be music related. Why not take this time to make a music video, or put music on the radio, collaborate, or even just keep posting on social media where it would be easiest to just post whateverā¦.??? I also think that people mostly separate his family role from his nonsensical-bullshit-ārockstarā-ego-audience-energy-siphoning-creature role and so far it looks like David is doing the same. It seemed like he always kept those two things separate (?? well he sings about Tea + his kids idk maybe the songwriting, his one contribution, comes from him but the restā¦.).Ā
How would pics of his kids cringing at paps motivate people to buy a ticket to his āconcertā??? lmao.
And hereās the thing.. I actually suspect (and this is just my own perspective) that he might not actually be aware of any issues in terms of the ātouringā!!! OR: if he has any questions (I donāt think he does lmao but if he didā¦), Scammer Brad just smoothes it out with bullshit, empty promises, new distractions/āprojectsā so as not to lose Davidās faith. I think it would be in Scammer Bradās best interests to do everything to assure him that its all smooth sailing, its just also hilarious that Scammer Brad literally canāt do a single thing in a professional or logical manner⦠including hiring actual professionals for specific tasksā¦ā¦.. LMAO wtffffā¦..
The theory in Point #3 just comes from an interesting parallel of David just being like āyah, somewhere down the line I believe BFD will be made someday somewhere a place for usssssss lalalalaā.Ā
Going off of the point #3, in terms of distractions and new gimmicks: evidence: This āmusicā documentary⦠like⦠Donāt get me started on the idea of āmusicā documentary like⦠dude⦠why do you need a documentary?? LMAO. We know why you are doing this and the truth aināt pretty!! This is a new level of āDavidās mere presence is the gift aloneā. But yeah Idk maybe they need to spin some gimmicky new merch (right beside the vinyls) or try to squeeze out more ways to commodify this ātouringā. If it is just a documentary just for the sake of one then I still must laugh because⦠how many times has David said that heās not a musician/singer/performer and thats fine but heās also never demonstrated that heās even wanted to improve, choreograph, or change what he does/how he expresses himself. What I mean is that, fair enough, what he does is fine and it is his right, but Iām talking about the dearth of any creative, artistic, innovative, even just progressive aspect to all of this that you know, would typically be the focus of any documentary on an actual artist (like, he writes the lyrics but doesnāt create the melodies/engineer the sound⦠I know that those processes can be separate but shouldnāt the actual documentary then be about his songwriting process and not about how much David is soooooo ~loved~ across the globe??? Like, Iām sorry to say it this way but I donāt see much else to the performative/ātouringā aspect of all of this that would warrant a documentary⦠heās never even made a music video⦠his music hasnāt even hit the radioā¦. its not like heās created a stage persona?? wait, has he???? lmaoā¦. come on, Dave.)Ā
To try to say it quickly lmao: (just my perspective) David clearly has no purpose even to his lyrics other than to sing about himself. He has no integrity behind anything he does. The point of a documentary would be to look behind the mask, the curtain but there is LITERALLY NOTHING THERE. AHHAHAAHAH theyāre selling us nothing⦠and the sad thing is is that there is evidence that that has been done in the past!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But there IS a documentary warranted on how his very talented young band members create their music and persevere through Davidās onstage performances without falling asleep. They are genuine artists and genuinely talented so hereās hoping that shining star David can allow them some precious seconds of face time on the documentary and Iām not talking about time spent talking about and aggrandizing David lmaoā¦.
But actually, this ādocumentaryā move makes a lot of sense in terms of Davidās history of you know⦠FLIP FLOPPING on his own words and being defiant of the labels others place on him/ he feels he is being subjected to while at the same time trying to squeeeeeeeze out as much as he can from those labels/the attention of others.
To conclude, It seems that David wants to separate family life from his work and thats good. To Davidās credit, maybe I actually donāt see him as buying into his own ācelebrityā āstatusā (at times..)⦠that is, until he sees an opportunity to use that āstatusā to get something he wants/needs to feed his ego (he acts like he might die if his ego aināt nourished), but that is technically his right since he technically āearnedā that āstatusā (its just my perspective, and my perspective includes the argument that he switches the goalposts a lot and doesnāt hold consistent to any sense of morals or character so⦠things can go both ways for him). Though I feel like he mainly owes that āstatusā to being at the right place at the right time, and he definitely owes his āstatusā/āsuccessā to Gillian as well :-) Iām gonna end this response on THAT note lmao.Ā

Iāve never been one for the middle road, in habits, emotions or tendencies, but if thereās one thing 2016 has taught me ā I hope ā itās that itās possible for me. At last. Iāve been more willing, as Iāve grown fractionally older, to welcome the change of heart that time and experience bring; Iāve been more likely to say, āWell, this is how I feel at the moment, but who knows,ā rather than, āNo! Never! Impossible!ā Only there have been some hold-outs from this: some political groups, some voting histories, some educational choices, anti-freedom groups, hate groups. Thankfully, they could all be bundled up in my mind as Big Bads, so I didnāt need to ever fear that I could be wrong about any of them: and if someone had expressed those choices, even once, even in error or misunderstanding or drunkenness or foolishness, or ever been associated with anyone whoād expressed those choices, then great! Into the barrel of doom with them, and good riddance!
I have loved so much of social media, so much of the quickness of thought to make the jokes, dark or otherwise, because thatās how I see the world. The kindness, too: those people who tap a āxxxā or a digital embrace to someone suffering. Iāve been at both ends of that, and it feels good.
2016, however, and everything weāre seeing unfold from that and the last few years before it, has made me wonder at the meaningfulness of these interactions. Other people than me have written about this, probably better than me, and research can show whatever we want it to (also known as ā2016ās catchphraseā) but some gut instinct in me has hollered louder and louder than social media does nothing, for me, in quite a major way. Iām sure anyone whoās reading this can give me some counter arguments ā friendships, business contacts, social and political movements ā but there is a hollowness to my life on there. On here, I suppose I should say. Having been mostly off it for several months now, I can see with greater clarity that the time I spend with friends and family on sofas and bar stools and around kitchen tables, without photos, or hashtags, or tagging, or comments, just ephemeral conversation and moments that are gone forever: these times have been better for me, and have filled some deeper need.
And of course social media can be an educational, fascinating place. Itās hilarious to suggest otherwise. So congratulations and a big shiny medal to me if I now understand that Black Lives Matter, or grasp the violence that faces the average transgender man or woman, or see that even the most supportive, feminist man occasionally uses language and jokes that chip away at the average woman. Those fights are easy to understand and easier to engage in.Ā
But ā and hereās the tricky bit ā how much time did I give, really, to thinking about why someone would support and vote and fight and hurt people for beliefs opposite to mine? Itās not comfortable to defend these people, to acknowledge that they are human and have family they love and interests they believe to be best. Itās not easy to say, in my circles, But What About Straight White Men, when weāve had such a bloody great time turning them into the butt of every smart, knowing, accurate, deserved joke. But the number of people I know on social media who are actively trying to make the world better (could count on two hands) rather than just spitting into someoneās online soup (thousands) is worth my consideration, if Iām spending hours a day with them. And the things weāve hated in those hours! We hate this film. This politician is trash. That TV programme is shit ā look at this gif about it! The readers of those newspapers are just a dumpster fire of burning garbage.
So this is what Iāve concluded, after much thinking and reading and listening: that there are two issues here. Two things that tie my feelings about social media and my feelings about whatās on social media together: firstly, nuance, and secondly, opportunity versus morality.
Nuance, as Jon Ronson (a man whoās had his share of online kickings) says on the Guys Weāve Fucked podcast*, is wildly unfashionable now. Pick a side! Quickly! Donāt worry about circumstance, or history, or mis-readings, or context! Just go go go get our boots on and pile in! My online bubble that Iāve been happy to cosy up in seems the same: straight white guys: be quiet. Leave voters: racists. Republicans: racist misogynist climate-change deniers who should also be quiet. It doesnāt matter why they feel that way. Letās just remind them as forcibly as we can that they are hateful humans we donāt want to dirty our hands with, and thatāll teach them a lesson theyāll never forget! After seeing our scorching memes, theyāll be thinking like we do in no time! Except: they are actual people. Everyoneās frightened of something, and whether or not I agree with the veracity of the source of that fear, theyāre still feeling afraid. They still have goals, which I may or may not agree with, but those goals wonāt change if I tell them their goals are trash. In an episode of the Invisibilia podcast* called Flip the Script, Hanna Rosin visits Aarhus to talk to the police who decided to stop prosecuting young Muslim men travelling to Syria to fight for Isis, and instead engaged with them, offering them care and support, employment and housing. They made them feel like they were welcome in Denmark, that this was their home, and in 2015, even when traffic was spiking from Europe, only one individual left Aarhus to fight. In the programme, Jamal, a young Danish muslim, says of his feelings before this positive intervention received him, āI thought: they call me terrorist? I will give them a terrorist.ā Treat those we disagree with as racists, as misogynists, as bigots, as fascists, and guess how theyāll be tempted to behave. (Side note: Itās also really worth listening to the Adam Buxton conversations* with Richard Ayoade, Iain Lee and Jon Ronson (again!) talking from various different angles about kindness, nuance, context, and how it feels to be a Woody Allen fan these days. Also, thereās a stand-up routine by Louis CK ā helloooo, problematic public figure ā which also covers nicely the idea of correctly using The Right Terms but having not great goals with it, and being pummelled for using Incorrect Language but wanting to communicate positive ideas. I canāt link to it as it autoplayed on Netflix while I was painting the hall, but the thought was pretty smart.)
As Oliver Burkeman said in his This Column Will Change Your Life piece*, itās moderation thatās key to a better world, not battling for victory. No one really ever wins a war. As This American Lifeās podcast* on Reconsideration showed, itās giving people a chance to be listened to that offers that chance to change minds, not shouting them down with facts that will only make them dig their heels in harder. Anger is a vital political tool, but my anger too often feels like hatred, or disdain, or dismissal. It serves no purpose. Itās a toxic, pixelled sledgehammer. It makes the world worse. Iāve really been doing a shitty job at making things nicer, guys.Ā
Secondly: opportunity versus morality. As part of my feminist beliefs, Iāve been pro-Instagram; why should some dude tell me what I can and canāt photograph? If people like my lunch pic, whatās wrong with that? If I look great and want to record and share it, what the hell is your problem? Only suddenly, as Iāve been using it less and less, Instagram looks so lonely to me. I think of the humans at the end of Wall-E, tapping their screens and never looking up, and thatās how it feels: I like the sunset someone else has photographed while Iām missing it because Iām looking at my phone. And even if Iām snapping it myself to share ā what am I missing by not just looking at the damn thing, and letting it pass through me, a beautiful gift to warm my soul? Do I really believe the tech ads about how much better a fatherās night in the woods is with his kid because he brought their tablet along? I know the feeling in me when I pick up my phone to take a picture of something with the intention of sharing it, and it feels like a greasy, dizzy dilution. For me, itās not about the over-curation of our perfect online lives, but about the inability to live in my offline life without outside approval. Iām not having real fun until 20, 50, 1000 people have liked it too!Ā
And putting that smartphone opportunity up against my moral code: just because we can do something, should we? If I can live-tweet a couple arguing on a train journey, does that make it not nightmarishly intrusive? If I Instagram a photo of someone in a terrible outfit, does that make me a warrior for underprivileged rights? If I pause every lunch with friends to take photos to post online for others to view and like or not like, am I connecting more, or less? Am I making the world a more claustrophobic, judgemental, short-sighted place if I collude in this weird global surveillance?
And god knows, Iām a hypocrite. Iāve been mean as mean can be, online and off-, about people whose political views I disagree with. Iāve Instagrammed my Christmas day lunches, my childrenās artwork, my brunches with friends, my views from a train. But why have I interrupted the flow of conversation or silence before the play started to post a picture of the theatre stage and ceiling? Why have I unintentionally asked my family to hold off from eating because I wanted a picture of the meal Iāve just made? Why did I stop thinking about whatever I was thinking about just to snap an image of the sky? Iāve thought and thought and canāt get any further than Because other people might like it. Which is, to me, right now, at this moment, fathomlessly sad. (But who knows how Iāll feel next week, a year from now, twenty years from now?)
Have some ideas on social media changed me? Of course. People and articles have educated me hugely in ways that have hopefully made me a better person. But do those new, positive and instructive ideas warrant staying on social media? Not at the moment. Twitter is a thousand people shouting apocalypse at me, Facebook is an algorithmic sink and Instagram is an endless time-suck scroll of kids Iām not playing with, art Iām not making, trips Iām not taking, food Iām not cooking, homes Iām not helping people into, chances Iām not helping others receive, political aspirations Iām not supporting because Iām just swiping my finger along this screen tap tap tap swipe tap swipe tap swipe swipe swipeā¦
But right now, Iām trying to make changes. Iām off twitter, Iāve deleted my Facebook profile, Iāve turned my Instagram to private and am slowly weaning myself off it (I still hit like at what Iām seeing, but the (v good, v scary) Moment app is also making me realise how much of my day ā my life ā is lost to tapping a heart icon on a flat screen next to a photograph someone else has taken that ultimately means nothing to me as pixels on a screen). The cards, notes, emails and texts Iāve sent and received over the last month or two have made me realise how much more valuable these quiet interactions are to me at the moment. I think about the adults Iād like our kids to grow up into: outward-facing, forward-looking, clear-eyed, generous with their time, generous with their thoughts, independent, handy (all the way from cooking and cleaning, through to crafting and mending and building), confident, kind. And it doesn't matter that Iām thinking of it in terms of my kids: like those men we laugh at for only finding feminism once they have a daughter (who cares why they found it! they found it! they're engaging!) itās not about whether or not I have children. Itās about which adults we want to share the world with. Adults we might disagree with, but whom we could hopefully rely on for respectful conversation, thoughtfulnesss, retreat on either side, apologies, space for error, learning, growth, change.
Iām not saying we should forgive anyone who asks for it ā only maybe I am, because what does the alternative produce? And Iām not saying we should love everyone in the world, no matter what theyāve done in the past or continue to do in the future ā only I guess, I suppose, perhaps, maybe I actually am, because hating people feels shit, does nothing, and makes the world boring and hate-filled and dead. Weāve tried that! Weāve tried telling men/cis/white women/privileged feminists/baby boomers/Tories/right-wingers/Brexit supporters/homophobes/transphobes/racists/abusers/Cameron that theyāre just a crapsack, nothing but a punchline, should get pushed off their soapbox or fixie or 4x4 or youtube channel into the fiery pits of hell! Weāve let the warmth of righteous indignation warm us at night and not minded the language we use against our enemies because look at the way theyāve treated us! Look at the terrible things theyāve done! So we hurl insults and craft jokes and smash bridges with our pixel sledgehammers and wait for the likes and retweets and thumbs up and YEAH comments to flood in, and if they do then our point is proved, good work, and if they donāt then maybe we up it a bit more next time.
(Or sometimes, I wonder if itās all a handy distraction from the way weāre treating our planet at the moment, like gum we can replace at the corner shop once weāve chewed all the goodness from it. Thatās frightening. Thatās genuinely sick-in-the-night, silent panic-attack terrifying. But we buy new phones and new phone covers and charge them up and snap a picture of ourselves with them in the mirror and grind our teeth that some dude took up too much space on the tube and Steven Moffatt canāt write women. Yes! Those things might be true! But, to play the card we all dislike the most: havenāt we got other things to worry about? Not necessarily bigger things, or better things, but fractionally more pressing things? Shouldn't we all be hurling money as hard as we can at scientists and policy makers in the hope we can stop sawing down and burning up the only home weāve got? Shouldnāt we be campaigning against companies who design their products with built-in obsolescence, rather than grabbing those products as fast as we can so we can use them to tweet our rage at companies who use unreliable delivery companies? And I understand that climate change isnāt a stand-alone issue ā capitalism, our lifestyles, our conditioned social priorities, corporate power over government, dissolution of employment rights, exploitation of workers ā all of this feeds into climate change and the terrible way weāre treating our planet. I understand this. And all of it feels slightly more pressing than how I can correctly display my individualism to people who donāt or barely know me.)
The fact remains, the basic philosophies of most major religions (if we put aside meat specifics and some potentially dodgy sex/marriage stuff) throughout human civilisation probably have a point: care for the needy; practice humility; think of others; show forgiveness; show respect; love everyone.
If the future looks scary, the answer isnāt to build the wall higher and sharpen our words. Itās so painful, and itās so difficult, and itās so simple. Right now, if we can take the time to type our disdain and disgust, weāre in a privileged enough position to take a deep breath, dive into life, and make a better choice.
