Soulmate tropes multifandom part one: Hunter x Hunter

Red string of fate you can tug: Kurapika

Kurapika’s soulmate frustrates him to no end, pulling their string at the worst moments with such force that he wonders how the hell they’re so strong. He could be sleeping and suddenly feel a tug from his pinky moving him to the other side. Kurapika understands he’s not heavy but there’s no way he’s that light! When he finally comes face to face with his soulmate giving them the equivalent of the stink eye.

Kurapika huffs before blurting out, “Why have you been manhandling me for no reason?” They have to stifle a laugh at his bluntness.

Immortal x mortal who keeps getting reincarnated but falls in love with immortal over and over: Chrollo

Chrollo’s soulmate constantly wallows in their own sadness, being immortal has no perks once you begin to live it. They hate having so many chances at life when they have to constantly wait for Chrollo again, watching him die months or days after a confession over and over makes them despise their never ending life Chrollo always dies after falling in mutual love with them making his soulmate swear to never fall in love with him again but always falling to the curse of the never ending cycle of reincarnation and death.

“I’ll always love you no matter how many life’s I live,” was always ringing in their ears in different voices but it was always him.

Really poor description on how you meet your soulmate is written on you: Feitan

Feitan’s face contorted into confusion when he first got the inky writing engraved into his skin, yeah sure he knew what soulmates were but the method whoever chooses soulmates picked out for him was annoying. I mean what kind of description of their meeting is, “bodies will hit it will be hot and sharp.” It threw him for a loop but eventually he decided to just give up on his soulmate. He didn't need romance, he's a thief for god's sake! But he was destined to meet you so when he bumped into someone holding scorching hot coffee that splattered onto him it hurt but it wasn’t bad for a nen user but just for the inconvenience he pulled out a switch knife holding it up to their wrist as a threat.

“Oh so this is what the text meant, how ironic,” the unknown person standing before him chuckled as he withdrew his weapon, coming to the same conclusion.

Someone can not experience true love until they meet their soulmate: Illumi

Illumi used to ask his mother about how he would meet his soulmate; she explained that methods are genetic and he would most likely be feeling no love until they meet the one. But he was quickly told to discard the idea of love and soulmates and encouraged to just marry the strongest person he would meet. Illumi drilled that fact into his head after some push from his parents he began to scout out potential candidates for marriage running into a florist worker their clay pot holding flowers were expected to smash into the floor but Illumi assumed that they were a nen user by the way they gripped their pot. Illumi walked off before hearing the same floral worker calling out to him holding a smaller bouquet, the plastic making a crunching noise as they moved to hold it out to the male's chest.

They grinned at him before hesitating, ultimately deciding to speak, “Here to apologize about running into you sir!” A weird fluttering feeling enveloped Illumi. He glanced at them studying their facial expressions and body language, thinking about them possibly cursing the flowers before giving them the pass, shrugging his shoulders and gingerly grabbing the flowers from them.

Countdown until you meet your soulmate: Uvogin

Never paid attention to the timer until Nobunaga pointed out that it was getting extremely low, in all honesty Uvogin kinda wanted to be in a romantic setting. He had his flings here and there but it wasn’t real love; he never pursued anything more due to his… job. So when he caught their eye during a stroll I mean who wouldn’t notice a 8 foot giant walking around! But then when he bumped into them literally I mean he actually slammed into them kinda, his soulmate was a little intimidated But Uvogin let out a hearty laugh like he always does.

They were the one profusely apologizing before he said, “Nah don’t worry about it I could never be mad at a cutie like you.” Before walking off did they notice the countdown on your wrist was at 00:00.

Speaking to your soulmate during dreams: Shizuku

Shizuku was indifferent towards the whole idea, but she also didn't get the hype people would get with soulmates watching people raving about meeting their soulmate while boasting was confusing. Well that was before she got her soulmate method, falling asleep after shifting in her bed for forever Shizuku dreamt of beautiful scenery with a person whose face was blurred out. Finally the two came to the realization, after a long while, that they can talk to each other and share intriguing conversations but whenever they try to say anything about their personal lives other than nicknames the pair would wake up suddenly like they experienced a nightmare. Shizuku, to her surprise, remembered every little detail about the person who appeared in her dreams, the blurry marks on their body and the way everything but their face looked, finding them interesting but not having enough time to deliberately look for her destined partner she became content with the small moments they shared. While out after a mission she craved a strawberry cake slice she opened the door to her favorite cafe strutting comfortably to the desk worker who greeted her with a smile and voice she was all too familiar with.

“Hello, what can I get you today?” Flashing their signature customer service smile they continued, “Take your time there's a whole lot of options.”

The exchange is multifandom, and open to artists, writers, web weavers, and podficcers. Fandoms do not have to have a canonized Ao3 tag to participate.

You must be a member of the Discord, for communication purposes.

Once assigned, participants will have 48 hours to deliver their gift.

Artists are expected to deliver a decent sketch on unlined paper, Writers and Podficcers have a 300 word minimum, Web Weavers are expected to deliver a 5-element or 3-element weave, depending on their style of web weave.

This exchange will be operating on DL:DR when it comes to what the mods will police and what we ask you to respect in terms of other people’s requests. The single exception is RPF, which has additional rules. 

RPF is allowed. Persons nominated for RPF must be famous in their own right and over the age of 18. Persons famous chiefly for their participation in facist regimes or as serial killers will not be considered for nomination. Mods reserve the right to reject RPF nominations in poor taste.

Affiliation -> Intelligentsia Guild, specifically the Candelagraphos department. The Candelagraphos is the printing department of the guild, made of authors, transcribers, typists, programmers, and workers who produce books. Their goal is sharing wisdom with more people through books.

Backstory -> You grew up on the planet of Punklorde, well known for its gamers, hackers, and aether editing technology. Not everyone that lives on Punklorde is a hacking fanatic, but it’s hard not to get caught up in all the hype sometimes… Let’s just say you’ve picked up a thing or two over the years, and you’re definitely considered tech-savvy. Unsurprisingly, you can thank Punklorde for your fondness of video games, which remains a beloved hobby for you to this day. Over the years, with your interests and passions developing, you found yourself desiring something more. You wanted to see more of the universe, to potentially connect with other likeminded or simply interesting individuals.

Upon learning about factions such as the Genius Society and the Intelligentsia Guild, you decided that’s where you wanted to try spreading your wings. While you weren’t completely certain that you wanted to dedicate your entire life to some sort of research, you figured getting involved with either group could at least help you broaden your horizons and allow you to see more than your home planet. Besides, you liked learning and reading; they shouldn’t be a terrible fit. That said, the Genius Society felt a bit out of reach - only the best of the best are allowed in, and most of those people had years of passionate research under their belt before they were invited to join.

So you reached out to the Intelligentsia Guild, and they deemed you to have more than enough potential. After joining and spending a bit of time in various schools, you were quick to settle into the Candelagraphos department, finding enjoyment in the preparation and reading the various works being prepared for publishing. You didn’t mind the busywork, even if transcription and programming could get a bit tedious at times. But you stuck with it, because their goal to share knowledge with as many people was something you appreciated. Eventually, your work brought you to the Herta Space Station, where you worked with a number of researchers to help copy and prepare their materials for publishing. It was there that you met the Nameless of the Astral Express, and you decided that was your chance to satisfy that lingering desire for adventure and something more.

Thankfully, you can still perform most of your work no matter where you’re at - even if you’re blazing through the stars on the Express.

Path -> Harmony. Those who follow the path of Harmony tend to value understanding, support, and cooperative behavior. You embody many traits that are integral to this path. You desire to be part of something bigger than yourself, and your traits of being responsible, polite, kind, and considerate point you in the direction of the path of Harmony. I will draw any ship from either of the above fandoms, though I do prefer Johnlock or the Husbands. All my work is done digitally at a minimum 2000x2000 print-ready piece in Procreate. Traditional media (markers, India ink, and pencils) is also available if you prefer, done on illustration or marker paper at the paper’s size, with the option of acquiring the original if you choose. I will also do it at a requested size if you have a preferred format for something specific (like a book cover or a comic panel). do you think its weird to feel bad for anti-ex shifters? I dont mean it in a way like converting random people/antis to be shifters but I have seen ex shifters turn into antis and then they say some crap like “i wish shifting was real/i wish this character was real/i wish my life was like this” and it just gives me a mix of pissed off + feeling bad for them like. BRO you found SHIFTING.

so ……. depending on how they talk about shifting.

the majority of them, who didn't even think about shifting once after the lockdown, have a completely different view of it than an avarage shiftok user has (even if, opening a comment section, i still see people asking things .. but whatever):

they think shifting is not real life. everything was mixed with draco malfoy pushing people off the stairs, y/n stark hearing clint barton in the vents, and people saying the most out of pocket shifting takes. at one point it became just a big joke, then the day after someone taught lord voldemort to shift here and people were crying, and that same evening it became a joke again. and also, it didn’t help that youtubers started making video commentary about shifting, doing nothing but just call us crazy. (and it didn’t help that the shifting community was mainly teenage girls, who have a notorious reputation of being insane and taking things way too far when it comes to our passions).

and like. people in 2010 had superwholock and we in 2020 had shifting. why would they open a closed book about a very-weird-multifandom that could give them everything they want when all we were taught since we were kids is that "we live only one life". when the majority of them never believed you could actually live hogwarts or fighting zombies. i feel bad for them because i was one of them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i decided to search on tiktok, after almost two years, shifting and …….. oh my god people were still talking about it. and i made a step forward to it.

but anti shifters who still hate on it and then have the nerve to say "i wish it was real" oh honey the fire you'll feel in your cheek when my hand will melt with it will feel very real !!!!!!! and i don't care if this is rude. you know how many shifters feel demoralised because of them? "the antis are getting in my head" & "im scared im schizophrenic because of the antis" it's bad. haters are a bad thing. the majority of them act like entitled bullies, getting mad at us when we don't care about them hating. because that's what bullies are, online and in real life. and yes, even if it's about shifting.

they found shifting and they decided to turn it off. that's their choice. those people who make videos "reading my 2020 shifting script!" make my skin crawl and then i realize that i can run in the beach with a unicorn, and they will never do because they don't believe it's possible
