I genuinely missed all of these puns the first time I read Homestuck as a teenager, so I have to stop now and applaud for ^CAKE (carrot cake), ~ATH ('til death), and DIS* (disaster risk).
Given I'm pretty sure it only shows up in this one Act 1 John scene, d'you think DIS* is blatant enough to go on my apocalypse joke tally?

A number of good thoughts here. A nitpick: spreadsheet software very much does support random number generation, and as such I don’t think that’s a good basis to make a distinction. However, effective randomness of “reward” might be. I’ve also thought things that might be called UBL might be good. Perhaps e-ink displays could be helpful for some of this?
Good point, I should have assumed that Excel/etc would have PRNG, although I suppose if a society were implementing something like this, a spreadsheet suite without one would appear pretty quickly.
"Reward" is more subjective, though. CAD software would be another issue. Overall, I think it's undesirable to have a mandatory software classification board, because then that would be used to choke out political dissent. (Dissent against who? Over what? Whoever's in charge at the time, over whatever issue is inconvenient for them.)
Also some people do recommend setting your smartphone to a monochrome display setting, although I have not tried this.

Just saw a very special word on my dash so here's a dumb pun I was humoring earlier:
Caliborn's shirt depicts a red tilde striking through the letter U, right. Consensus circa 2012 was that this represented the Red Miles killing a Universe, while also invoking the ~ATH (til death) code that brings Lord English into dead reality. But since the cherubim's U can mean You (parcel to their function as parodies of the audience), ~U also works as a more general icon of aggression -- since Caliborn is flipping people off all the time with his little tumut emoji, "FUCK YOU" feels right. So if we take the tilde to mean "fuck" and consider that ~ATH was introduced alongside Sollux's lisp, we could read the programming language's name as "FUCKASS".

exceptiional work on that 4/13 drawing for being the exact visual experience of being attacked with a large metal baseball bat while scrolling down ones dashboard not just for the homestuck of it all but the SCATHING accuracy to characterization. i cant argue or get mad because youre absolutely 100% right. that is EXACTLY what troll straw hats would look like. that is PRECISELY what their horns and colors would be. you peered into a parallel dimension where all media is made of homestuck humans and trolls and saw this like some kind of terrible oracle. im applauding you the way a warlord does to the adversary that defeats him right before being executed . im in awe. im furious. great work all around thank you for sharing
ANKDKDKCKDK THANK YOU SO MUCH
yes. i actually put a lot of thought into that. i dont know if you actually wanted to hear it, but now i have an excuse to ramble.
the whole thing started as an excuse to make law’s death tattoo say ~ath like in homestuck (its a pun on tilde + ath. aka “til death”). but then my brain started whirring. like making mutant blood luffy (god-coded) but the universe is a beetle not a frog.
i wanted the straw hats as trolls, and the rest of the worst gen as humans. then i was coming up with horn designs (chopper keeps his. usopps are slingshot shaped. etc). that was fun. i knew i wanted zoros to be santoryuu and sanjis to be curly. oh, and fuchsia seadweller sanji who hides his blood color anyway.
idk the rest is stuff that i couldnt jam in one drawing. law dragging luffy to his quest bed after he gets a hole punched in his chest. beposprite. eustass kid setting his strife specibus to like, wingnutkind, and killer telling him “you cant change that, you know.”
normal things. im normal about one piece and homestuck.

hey did you know ~ATH isn't just a funny programming language and that if you're not an idiot like me you'll get it on the first read. TILDE ATH. TILDEATH. The whole language is about loops executing a function after something dies. Til Death.
WHAT .

yeah, can i make ~ATH continue to generate variables? like if one part of the program dies it generates another variable? because i've been trying to do that lmfao
Hi. Not sure what you mean by continue to generate variables. If you mean like how in lisp you can like, automatically generate a new variable name and then use that variable name, then no, drocta ~ATH doesn't have a feature like that, but I'm guessing that's not what you mean.
Variables are just like, names in your program. If you want more objects, you can just continue bifurcating objects to get more objects.
drocta ~ATH does not support parallelism or concurrency or whatever (though presumably canonical ~ATH would, in some sense. At least, it appears to handle circumstantial simultaneity.), So, if you are referring to drocta ~ATH, then I'm not sure what you mean when you refer to part of the program dying. Though, given that in canonical ~ATH, there is the expression
[THIS,THIS].DIE();
then it seems like, presumably, it should be possible to have something like
THIS.DIE();
in order to describe part of the program dying (ending), without another part doing so.
But, again, drocta ~ATH does not support anything like that. Feel free to make a fork of it which does though. Please let me know if you do!

Is there a way we can find out how it would be abused without actually implementing it for real?
Well,
[ samueldays]
Courts get a lot more "is my party in congress?"
We can game things out, but my rule of thumb is that political operatives are always looking to do bullshit and abuse procedures, and because they want to do this so badly, it's difficult to figure out every possible way they could fuck things up.
Tempting to propose that the courts be equipped with some sort of 'send to congress' function for when something is ambiguous, but gut says that would be abused somehow.

Complete the following poem : nothing exists, except for the things that do. If I were to exist, I'd want
There once was a man named John and he had a dog named Jane, whom he loved very, very much.
And one day, they walked down a street—and they saw a strange thing: this strange woman, in a hat which had a huge, bright eye in the middle; and when she blinked, the world stopped.
And they followed her: it was a long way down to the bottom of the street.
And when she got there, she was standing at the bottom of the street, and an army of strange aliens, in bright blue space suits, were there with her, and they were taking her arm off and one of them had a beard and John didn't know which one it was, and they were telling this woman that the things in this world existed. But she was very excited, because she'd just had this revelation.
And she knew who she was.
It was Jesus.
And Jesus knew that she was John's wife. And Jesus knew that his name was Jane. And Jesus knew that his dog was a little, little baby named George.
The aliens told her things in the blue-blue sky: if you lose something you will be given a new one, and it will be very easy to get them.
But she was mad.
"I lost my human being, I lost my wife, and I'm going to lose the only thing that I never got. And that's not fair!"
And when she said, "No, I didn't lose my husband," then she was told, "We're going to give you back your husband, we're going to give you back your home and you're going to be happy, and your dog will be happy, your dog will be happy and you'll get in touch with your real self; you'll know your real name, and your wife's human name."
And that was what Jesus said
"She's not my true self, she's not my wife, she's just a human being, she's in the real world."
And the blue-blue aliens said, "Very well. When you've found your true self, you'll know if you're real human being."
"And that," Jesus said, "is going to make me very angry."
And Jesus came back to us.
And he came to this earth and he became this world, and he had a human being with him, a dog named Jane.

If I wanted to try fine-tuning gpt2 (possibly just the smallest version if that needs less data?), do you know a rough lower bound on how big a corpus I would need in order for that to work ok? I want to use text I've written, but I'm not sure that there's enough of it (I have a little over 2MB handy). I've tried casually to look this question up a couple times but my googling didn't find much of an answer.
possibly just the smallest version if that needs less data?
Train on the biggest version you can, actually -- bigger ones are more data-efficient, not less.
do you know a rough lower bound on how big a corpus I would need in order for that to work ok?
It depends on what you’re going for, but 2MB is definitely enough to be worth trying.
The smallest (?) corpus I’ve ever done was 1.8 MB of a friend’s tweets and blog posts, a long time ago, and he was impressed and amused with the results.
