Au Idea!!! 🐢

I've got an idea for an au I desperately want to share. It's slightly similar to my swap au but a bit different. I take a bunch of characters from tmnt, I get a spinner and I put the names of all the characters on the wheel. I pick a character e.g. Leo, I spin the wheel and whoever I get i swap with Leo. That's the basic idea.

Characters like Splinter, Shredder and Krang do not change. If I need to I will change a human to mutant or a mutant to human if it seems necessary. The turtles will still be brothers but their origin story will change a bit. The only thing that really changes is their role, they are pretty much just the same person.

I think I might just keep Leo in his place and ma,e it his goal to find his bros or something.

I really like the idea but I want to see what people think.

What is your favorite duo from rottmnt or tmnt in general?

I don’t really have one! I find all of them interesting in their own ways. My favorite IS Leo tho, so I like to focus on any duo including him I suppose.

I can also say I’ve always really adored any Leo + Raph duo, because of their clashing characters. In Rise especially, since they kind of switched roles. Perhaps that counts!

"...the thing about Leo in Rise is that he's still developing the leader capability. Consider this: he's living how he wanted to live but never got the chance to in previous iterations. You can see in the 1987 iteration when Donnie used the "personality changer" (don't remember the exact name but it's been awhile) he was more relaxed and fun, but perhaps it wasn't a change in personality but rather a gear switch. Leo has always had the leader/being responsible opted in as like, his main thing. However clearly the personality swap had to have something to pull out, so theoretically he was always like this. I think it was a good change in pace for him.

Instead of Rise completely erasing the type of person Leo is from the show entirely, they gave it to Raphael. Yes, Raphael is aloof and a bit dumb sometimes but when shit gets serious, he toughens up and he gets stuff done. He wants the best for his brothers and tries to be responsible for them all. He's very insecure and nervous for his brother's sake, and he tries to protect them. As for honor and spirituality, the show isn't very big on it (blame Nick) BUT at the end of the day, the first turtle to show that was Raphael to get his brothers to learn the Hamato ways. Raphael was the one to help his brothers to train and tried his best to keep them grounded.

Eventually, we do get to see Leo be a leader, and sure he's not shown to be as serious or insecure as the other Leos but that's because he's RISING up to become sort of like that. Even in the movie, we saw Leo mature and kinda become like the Leo you enjoy watching. Sure, this Leo has a totally different coping mechanism compared to the others, but it's what you'd have to expect from a modern teenager (I mean, I can't be the only one seeing the memes teenagers make to cope with their lives.)

Rise didn't ruin him, but rather showed a different perspective of him that we don't get to see often. The whole show kinda makes you remember that they're teenagers. The teenagers I see becoming leaders around my school remind me of Leo alot, they're flamboyant and loud on the outside but when you start to know them is that on the inside you can tell they're insecure and feel like they have to find a way for people to like them so people listen to them.

Honestly, it works for rise, because you can see Raphael failing to get the interest of his brothers sometimes, whereas Leo can easily get people to actually listen to him. He's bold, but that convinces his brothers to listen to him. Unlike the other Leos we don't see him struggle to lead, because we slowly see that it's natural to him. To bring that aspect back, we had Raphael struggle, which leads to the eventual switch.

So that hero/for honor personality is still there, but it's in Raphael, not Leo. You have to realize that the roles switched for a reason. The purpose of rise was to give TMNT a different perspective but not everyone caught onto the perspective because it takes the subtle details to figure that out."

Ruby is based off candy apple cookie, and she is a new oc so her plot is still in the works but I have a good main idea/concept for it

Hello. I have never seen an "teenage mutant ninja turtles" show, comic, or movie. The characters however, appeal to me. If any one show or movie would suffice, where should I begin? Other sources have not been helpful.

OHHH GODDD OK WELL. OK SO. the thing is that different iterations are SO different i'm not entirely convinced that comparing them to each other is very ?? helpful?? a lot of people these days get into tmnt through the 2018 animated show Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. HOWEVER, that show only has like 2 seasons and is not the end all be all of the tmnt universe.

it's kind of hard for me to advise you to watch or read any one specific piece of tmnt media to get into it, because I kind of just already knew about it the entire time growing up?? like i never really actively watched it but i was generally aware of the concept for my entire life.

and i'm not sure exactly ABOUT the tmnt characters interests you, so i wouldn't know where to point you.

with all that as a disclaimer here's some of the more popular film/tv shows (I'm about as lost as you when it comes to the comics to be honest)

ROTTMNT/rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles. it's the newest series as far as i know and it has fantastic animation. it's very funny and lighthearted most of the time and the boys even get magic powers (eventually) it's the one that really got me into tmnt. this one kind of switches around the roles of the characters. Usually you'll see Raph being depicted as the rash one, or the one with anger issues who strikes out on his own (and i still think thats true to an extent in rottmnt) but he, as well as Leo, are definitely portrayed in a different way than normal in rottmnt. which i like tbh it's fun. (i could write a whole essay about how their characters are different but also kind of the same in rottmnt vs other media but that would take all day)

TMNT 2012 series. The 2012 series is very influential as well, and heavily beloved by many. I haven't seen all of it yet, but it's biggest drawbacks (to me at least) is its very 2010's american childrens show style of comedy which can come off as uncomfortably cruel/annoying if you aren't ok with it. it's also an early years CGI animated show, so sometimes things don't look as good as they could. STILL it's definitely interesting and i like the dynamics between the brothers there so I'd give it a chance.

TMNT 2003 series. honestly i havent heard a lot about this one, but i really like the style and ive watched a few episodes of it, and it's definitely solid, sorry i can't say much more than that.

TMNT 1987 series. also can't say much about this one but it is hella goofy from what i've watched of it. it's also the original cartoon series i believe, airing as a sort of "saturday morning cartoon" situation.

TMNT 1990 movie. this one is part of a trilogy of tmnt movies, but i've only seen the first and a half movies. I really enjoyed the first one, it was a fun time and kind of campy, and the guy who plays casey jones is cute. this one is live action and the turtle costumes can look off putting to some people, but personally i liked them.

ahaha thank you!! and oohhh man where do i start. i really love their classic older-younger sibling dynamic, mostly in 2003 and 2012. they fight and tease each other like crazy because they know how to piss each other off, but at the end of the day they’re still best friends.

in 2012, i love how raph is a physical protector and mikey is more of an emotional protector. raph often gets the angriest when mikey is hurt because it’s his job to make sure that doesn’t happen. mikey’s job is to give raph the safety to not be strong all the time. when shredder throws splinter into the sewer, he knows exactly what to do and say to help raph. they both keep each other safe but in different ways.

rottmnt sunset duo is great because raph’s protector role is so magnified. he’s the oldest, the biggest, and he often smothers mikey. he loves mikey but doesn’t always know how to show it, hence them growing apart (rip the episode we could’ve had). and i love that mikey, once again, is emotionally stabilizing with his dr delicate touch thing. “get yo mind right son” literally lives in my head all the time because yeah. raph needs someone to call him out on his shit. but i also love that mikey and raph really are the no brain cell duo sometimes. raph says yep, i’m gonna throw my little brother at my enemy and it’s gonna be awesome.

basically i love how they are an amazing and realistic depiction of an older-younger sibling relationship, and i love it even more when they switch up their established roles!

In WIBE, one of the characters we meet is Yuichi Usagi, who works at the human ROTM. He also works in the original ROTM. He was robbed while on a trip to the Hidden City, and is originally from a different city entirely. Hueso is doing his best to help him out, but it'll likely be a long time before Yuichi gets to go home.

Some other WIBE background characters in WIBE include: MM!Kendra, MM!Robyn O'Neil, MM!Irma, & MM!Casey Jones. I don't have a lot to say abt Kendra and Irma, since it's been a long time since I wrote any of it down, but I can give it my best shot with Robyn and Casey.

Robyn has been diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety disorder for a few years pre-fic. She's in her first year of college which is out-of-state, and does her best to check up on her family via phone call at least every other week. She's also sort of invested in all of April's new drama, but she won't admit it.

Casey's been playing hockey for as long as he can remember, and intends to keep at it for as long as he's physically able. He's also got a knack for engineering, and I'd gamble that sometime not long after the ending of WIBE, he'd start up the Casey Jones vigilante batshittery. His parents are divorced, but he spends most of his time with his Jewish mother, and while he's never been actually taught much about his religion he accepts it as a part of his identity, and if people don't like that then they shouldn't be around him in the first place. He finds the existence of the turtles to be one of the coolest things ever, but after actually getting to know Raph and the others, it doesn't impress him as much as it used to. (If I had time, I'd add in a tiny crush on Raph, but I'm an aro with WAY too many ideas for this tiny fic)

Then there's experienced fighters, where the main thing is me ALWAYS knowing what song is playing in the background. I really love how much music is in MM, and I love being able to say hey! here's the musical vibes of the environment!

sort of on that topic, i've got a hc that any song with even small references to space are songs that rise, 2k12, and MM leo are more likely to enjoy. they don't realize these patterns, but they sure are there.

and to end off the music rant, one of these days i'm gonna make a playlist of songs that I think the rise crew all collectively agree are good enough (this is what space feels like, goodie bag, punk tactics, etc. etc.)

there's also two in one, which is based off an au by @blackfire-fanfiction. I have to be real cautious abt what I put in there, because a lot of people are looking at it instead of the extended context of the real thing, not to mention how many Thoughts that aren't really canon I have about it. For instance: today I had a good 30 minute daydreaming session abt the concept of rise!Donnie reading leonardo's notebook while he's comatose post-rise movie and finding out about the switching

in dimension desync, I poke a bit at my head canons about peni parker's movie universe and her mental health at home, and have expanded on this even further in an abandoned draft. this is going to be LONG, so here we go: Gwen Stacy and Richard Parker were around in Peni's universe before she herself was, each piloting a mech of their own [Ven#m and Sp//DR]. A few months after Peni's mother is pregnant with her, Richard dies in action, and a few months later, Ven#m sort of devours Gwen (go read the comics because it's really fucked up but idk how to describe it) So then the role of SP//DR is forcefully thrust upon Peni at the age of eleven, and her connection with SP//DR isn't exactly... perfect.

in my team blue universe, I'm fleshing the hell out of Sam-13 and Shadowcat (both from earth 65). Sam was created by corrupt parts of SHIELD (that have yet to have been identified as corrupt) but now is just a regular agent. Cap returned to their dimension when he was 14 and has been in charge of training him ever since. Cap is stubborn to a fault and is def being manipulated by the corrupt agents, but none of the kids have gotten close to that bigger picture yet. Meanwhile, Kitty was inducted into the weapon x program (or 65's equivalent of it, I don't remember much of the wolverine origin story) at the age of 8, and despite odds survived. Wolverine took her in, and she's been helping him bounty hunt since about 13, even though he's trying to stop her.

team blue is also starting to extend to universes that the spider-verse movies don't really deal with through plants that have yet to be explained. but miguel's spite at e-199999 has definitely transferred, which means that, if they were ever to interact, not many of the main team would like the mcu-vengers

in my very obscure mech-x4 series, Olivia (who is only referenced by name once in the show) is veracity's little sister, who is 7 years old. This series is more of a set of vaguely connected oneshots, but still.

i could go ON AND ON about Oliver in all of my mighty med/lab rats fics, but in short: arcturion made his hair start growing in blonde, which he hates. Horace is his adopted dad and so it sucks ass when he dies. Oliver also comes with built in hypothermia! This is also definitely a headcanon, but I think that in EF once the rats have the upgraded chips, Chase's laser bō is green instead of blue, and his super senses are togglerable (to a degree) I also like to imagine Kaz's lil bro Kyle is his number one fan and nobody in his family listens to him when he claims that Kaz is one of the bionic guys on the news.

My TMNT 2007 hc in general before I go insane

Watching TMNT 2007 got me thinking that it could be more of a canon divergence AU of TMNT 2003.

Like if shredder is really killed by the turtles rathan then being imprison to a icy wasteland then, the event of TMNT 2007 is really what happened. Not to mention that, the prequel comics show that triceraton is somehow secretly invaded earth.

About our beloved turtle boys behaviour on the other hand, while we know things worked out among them(leo mainly) in the 03!verse, I hc the 07! boys having a bit of a jaded personality(forgive my wording in english it's not my mothertounge) in their normal routine of catching criminals at night, it's a norm for them by now, at the very least catching thieves is more of an excersise for them.

While Mikey and Don have adapted well and fast with their mundane routine, Raph and Leo are the restless ones as in their both in a way battle maniac, they both love the thrill of battles.

I mean the whole leo vs raph scene sort of said it all but once the helmet's off it's more of them venting.

After the canon event in the movie, I like to think that solo or duo patrol is part of their routine.

Leo can tolerate with the life of having a day job just maybe his body temperature needing to adapt(I don't know turtles anatomy).

At the same time he also may need to revise what he has learned during his trip.

Raph on the other hand, is need a lot more sleep than Mikey and Don due to his routine as nightwatcher. Man needs to fix his sleep routine period

Leo and Raph would switch or accompany Mikey on his cowabunga carl job in the daylight. Normally Leo at first for a couple of weeks then the switch begins.

When Leo or Raph switch with Mikey's role, it's the amusing part.

Leo, probably had kids afraid of hitting him, probably scolds the kids when the parents aren't looking

Raph, he can play along but sometimes he accidently hits a kid too hard or gives tip on how to actually hit something

Donnie: I don't even know, Micheal. Raph and Leo are their own in their own shells and brains.

Leo would drive and remind Mikey about the grocery and putting their ads

I LOVE MADOKA MAGICA TOO! I was thinking of putting it down when asking your favorite anime but decided against it I've been thinking of TMNT+ Madoka au. Where Mikey is Madoka' Raph is Kyoko and Donnie's Homura. and Leo get's Sayaka I think the concept is cool with the whole witches and becoming god those are just the roles that match personality wise mainly throughout a lot of tmnt from what I've seen.

Glad I found someone else who likes it lol. I also experimented on who would be who; we have the same answers except I switched Sayaka and Homura up. I dont know. Homura is better at hiding her emotions kind of like Leo, while Don is much more open about it. If you are talking about the Rise turtle though, yea would 100% agree with you on that one lol.

Honestly though, a tmnt x madoka crossover would be forking wicked

This is maybe just me and probably has to do with the order I watched tmnt (03 then rise then 87, all three very different, and then the rest of em, but also part of idw somewhere early on there)

but I always felt like, while their personalities are certainly different, Rise Leo and Raph had more of a focus change than a role change

Like, with 03, and many iterations, the focus is on Leo. The show's about all of them but his arcs take center stage, his understanding of the conflict and what he believes about familial roles colors what the audience gets to see. The other brothers have their focus episodes, but it's Leo's worldview we're kinda following if that makes sense

And that does very much come across as Leo constantly trying to be responsible, follow Splinter's teachings and look after siblings, Raph looking for opportunities to contradict him largely just because he doesn't like authority as a rule, and sure Leo showboats a bit but that's because it's super cool to be a ninja

But Rise followed Raph more. The show is still about four brothers, and possibly Rise would have changed in later seasons, but the first two focus on Raph's emotions, how events influence his worldview, how his flaws affect his family, etc. (until the movie which threw Leo into the limelight ajdhkdksk)

And that comes across a lot more like Raph trying to be responsible, follow Splinter's teachings, and look after siblings, while Leo pokes holes in his plans, complains about the risk, and showboats way too much. When will he relax and just let Raph smash things?

idk, Leo and Raph have always been pretty similar, with Leo's style being more observe and wait for the perfect Moment, manipulate the situation from the shadows, while Raph's style is more go straight in and get it done, hit hard and fast and powerful. In the other shows there are absolutely times when Raph feels like Leo is trying to get out of a mission due to laziness or cowardice, and we see more of Leo's pov where he's stressed and trying to keep Raph safe, but the Raphs see... well y'know, Pizza Puffs episode type shenanigans

And I thought it was neat Rise showed more of Raph's pov

Anyway the shows are definitely different. The personalities were absolutely switched up a bit, on purpose. But it's not that different, just a little flavor and angle change

1987 Raphael is his own type of creature

The dynamic in Rise between the rest of the team and Leo is. so fucking funny. Because like you've got these three extremely talented individuals who all seem like perfectly reasonable people at first glance, right, but then if you squint hard enough you realize they're actually all batshit insane (affectionate) and the clown boy standing behind them is secretly their common sense.

Clown boy will occasionally put himself and the others in danger to Prove Himself or Prove Someone Wrong (see Minotaur Maze and the movie) but like otherwise... i think people forget Leo's overwhelmingly the voice of reason in most situations?

Raph, Mikey, and Donnie are all incredibly powerful boys with very specific skill sets. They are also, as a direct result of this, the WORST decision-makers on god's green earth lmao. When presented with a problem, Raph will smash, Donnie will blow shit up, and Mikey will razzmatazz. They will all run straight toward death with the same oblivious enthusiasm of a dog about to run straight into a screen door. None of them realize this and all of them think they are Extremely Good At Problem-Solving.

And the guy cursed with the common sense to realize this is literally the LAST person anyone would expect.

When you look closely, the entirety of Rise is actually a chronicle of Leo trying to find new and creative ways to keep this team of superpowered fools alive while simultaneously white-knuckling his Cool Fun Guy persona so the others don't realize he's secretly the Boring Responsible One. Haha, you know what would be Cool and Fun, guys? Not going after the Spine Breaking Bandit lol. Getting home before the sun goes up lol. Evacuating that civilian lol. Not telling the guy dangling me off a roof "you won't, no balls" lol.

The sacred struggle of every iteration of Leonardo is thanklessly wrangling the most trigger-happy siblings in the world, and Rise Leo has not escaped it. He just does an occasional shenanigan to avoid detection and his brothers fall for it every time.

However, Kendra and Jason realize that their house wasn’t the only thing they left behind (will have a reboot of the story, so have some patience, please).

Where You Are (Where do you belong)—Post story to the main story. One shot. After Kendra was taken to finish her sentence with her mother, Jason felt lost as to what his role should be. Thank the Gods that a late night talk with tea helps spill out his feelings.  

Purple Love—First installment of the Purple Love saga. Idiots in love trope. One shot. Jason and Donnie have made amends and began to talk. After a couple of months, Jase realizes that he caught feelings for the purple clad turtle. Gods forbid that his sister doesn’t meddle in his love life,

How many Kisses do you Need?—Sequel to “Purple Love”. One shot. Jase and Donnie are cuddling, and the turtle decides that is time to remind his boyfriend what a wonderful person he is. 

“So, what’s the catch?”—Set after Jase and Donnie got together. Vidnya Rivera and Frank Boudreaux-centric. One shot. After being blown off by their friends, Vidnya proposes a truce for not hanging out alone for the day. It doesn’t go as planned. 

But I Wanna tell the World (That you are Mine)—Around 3 months after “Purple Love”. 2 chapters. Jase’s sentence finished earlier than anticipated, so he was finally free to go on a real date with Donnie. However, Donnie’s family doesn’t know that he is dating Jason. Like, at all. 

Long tie no see, Old Friend—Apocalyptic Future. In between the end of Season 2 and the Movie. One shot. After a couple of years of being the Head Doctor of the Colony, on one particular mission that Leonardo brought in some scouts from the outside, the doctor found someone from her past that she couldn’t forget.

Memento Mori—First fic. Crossover between the book series Amulet and Rise of the TMNT. 3 chapters. Baxter was sneaking away from the base when Donnie stopped him and decided to accompany him where he was going. In the meantime, Baxter tells him a story of an old friend (UNFINISHED). 

Dual Dragons—Collab with @sibillascribles08!! One Shot. This fic is a crossover between our own different versions of Jase, which end up encountering each other and they even switch universes for a short while, letting them understand how their lives ended up so different yet not so much.
