Paul Davies gets a crucial thing about quantum physics really wrong, and a lot of his later arguments rest on it. And it's something a lot of people get wrong, frequently and confidently.

The idea that the observer effect requires a concious mind is (in my opinion) pure woo. Bohr and Heisenberg (who he cites for this) use "observer" to mean "whatever you take the measurement with". There's 2 concepts to internalise here: one, to observe a particle, you have to interact with it, and two, a quantum particle behaves as a bundle of probabilities of what it *might* do, and by measuring it, you "collapse" that into what it *did* do.

Neither of these things neccesitate a concious mind to do the observing, these observations are just tiny detectors we're reading the results of after the fact, and the results would be the same if you threw them out without reading them. If you want me to believe the universe functions on spooky psychic powers it's up to you to explain how, without just lying about what Bohr said. God I hate you Paul
