ID: the three screenshots of the unofficial Magnus Protocol script of episode 17 read: “Anyways, there was a new receptionist behind the old front desk, some big, soft-looking guy who stumbled over every word. A year ago it would have probably wound me right up, but what can I say? Therapy works.”
“There was another patient, too, some bookish-looking guy with serious city miles. I used to play the game ‘what are you in for,’ where I would pass the time guessing… well. You know. In my head he was definitely the kind of weird pervert, really into stroking orchids or something.”
“Celia: … (to computer) Thanks, I guess. Not exactly the same, though, is it? [typing noises stop as a chair swivels in Celia’s direction.]”

Alexander Newall and Jonny just KEPT COMPLAINING about how they made the most unfuckable monster, leading to the great Tma twink event of 2024, and then they put mr bonzo into a strip club. They are literally the funniest people ever I think.

Long 4am ramble because I’m thinking a lot about Kirk and McCoy in TMP
Because for Spock it was very much the culmination of his character, his big joyous epiphany. And in that way it was also a very happy occasion for Kirk, his Vulcan is back and he’s finally learned to accept his feelings? (the feelings for him!) Glorious day.
But then you look away from the Spirk lens and start observing how Kirk treats McCoy, as well as how he treats the ship and its crew. And the movie makes it very plain that he is desperately trying to relive his glory days. To take back what he feels he needs. (he is aware of it to an extent, which creates a nice depiction of a deeply selfish character who conscious of it and trying to overcome. (And of course Kirk accepting that Space is where he belongs directly parallels Spock’s journey of emotional acceptance- but that’s a discussion for another time))
But even with that awareness, all of the “bad” that comes from it seemingly gets brushed under the rug by the euphoria/mania of his reuniting with Spock (and ig the unification of V’Ger and Decker but that is in of itself a Spock/Kirk parallel, so the point remains).
If you focus on the movie from McCoy’s perspective it’s just sad and melancholic.
Kirk uprooted McCoy from a retirement where, it seemed, he had the space and the freedom to explore himself and his identity and the vastness of life’s experiences. All to trim him back down to exactly how he was while serving under Kirk. And McCoy accepts it.
McCoy’s introduction in the movie is loud (in every sense, the yelling, the outfit) and you can SEE him quiet in response to Kirk. He sees that demanding outstretched hand and reins himself in, concedes, and the next scene we see him in he’s that perfect image of what Jim wants him to be. (What he needs” him to be)
From then on, throughout nearly the whole movie, his presence becomes a reassurance. There are so many times where he shows up, checks on Kirk, and quietly leaves again. So many times where he’s shown as an observer. And the problem that makes it all sadder is that if you look past the surface-level grouching you can tell he holds no grudge, no anger for any of it.
And I think the angle is that he is accepting his place there as well. Maybe it’s that the experience-chasing he’d been doing in civilian life was to compensate for the void that not being a part of Jim’s crew left him with. That he truly does enjoy the role he’s been given. But that acceptance feels so jagged and bitter as a viewer. The happiness of this reunion cannot magically fix the fact that he wasn’t given any choice in it.

I know we’re all banking on Michael Shelley showing up in Protocol so we can have that sweet sweet door goth interactions. But like,,,,what if Michael shows up and Gerry and him just fucking hate eachother. Just like absolutely can’t stand eachother. “I like everyone except for that fucking guy” vibes. I don’t think it’s ever explicitly said in TMA if they liked each other let alone met each other, so it’s possible. Likely? No. Possible? Yes.
You look me in the eyes and tell me Jonny Sims is a man that wouldn’t do that and i would call you a liar

I’m not gonna lie, I can’t help but take the whole “The Deep” in episode 11 thing literally. The vibes were so completely… I don’t know, off? From the Vast and the Lonely, the two most obvious dread powers that could have usually been the ones in charge of this. Instead of distant, or trying to push people away, or having some longing for open space, there’s this sense of such deep hunger throughout the statement. I can’t help but be reminded of how strongly ocean currents and waves can work to try to drag things into themselves, or the luring darkness of water that’s just a bit too deep for comfort. Even the feeling of curiosity that human beings tend to feel towards things such as the ocean, and what might be inside.
All of this makes it so I can’t help but think that, maybe, there are more than the original dread powers in this universe. Again, my whole idea is taking “The Deep” statement literally; perhaps it’s a new power, centered around the ocean, water, and the deep hunger that desperately wants to drag you in deeper. And, of course, if there’s one new one, there may be others as well.
I first realized this whole “what if it’s a new power” thing when I was ranting to my brother about the episodes of TMP I had just watched (as a normal person does), and when I mentioned Needles, he said something along the lines of, “Oh, he must be like, The Punctured or something”. I laughed it off at first because, well, that’s not an existing power. But I really do find that I can’t figure out what, exactly, Needles would align with. At first I thought it might have been the Desolation? I mean, being stabbed to death by needles is pretty gosh darn painful and slow. Or maybe the Slaughter? He really seemed to enjoy causing some random person a whole lot of pain just because he wasn’t scared of him.
But honestly I think it’d be silly if he belonged to some different power that would be considered more “wimpy” or “pathetic” compared to the others. Like it’s not only Needles that throws a fit if you don’t find him scary, but anybody aligned with the power is like that because “everyone’s scared of needles >:[[[“ And, on a more serious note, I can’t figure out what else he would belong to, besides a combo; like how The Deep situation could have been a Hunt and Vast combo or something. But it would be pretty gosh darn cool if there were new powers here just to make the cast’s lives even more of a living hell than they certainly will be (and are).

HUGE fan of the shift from analog style horror/reading paper statements to internet horror. the way theyve used the internet as a medium for horror so far is SO good
"Canaries should stay above ground." followed by the image being removed and the mod commenting about gore gave me chills
