Teresa is so sure, so certain that she is right about this, that WCKD is good, that she is good, and she has to be because if she's not...

If she's not......

And this comes right back to my other thoughts about Thomas belonging to her. She wants to keep him, but she can't have her cake and eat it too, it's impossible. Thomas is always going to fight. Even when he was working for WCKD with her, when he was almost entirely hers, he didn't believe in it. He even described himself (in a memory-dream) as being hollow, dead inside. And this is after years of conditioning, of pain and torture, of having his conscience smothered and his soul chipped away at. After all that, he still planted his feet and said no. And now that he's been on the other side of what WCKD has done, seen without the blinders on, now that he has friends he cares about, people he's fought and bled and survived with, he is never going to go back.

And she cannot understand why.

Janson described her as having an "evolved view of the greater good," which is such an ironic line considering, and in some part, that is true. She thinks that Thomas can't see the forest for the trees, but she can't see the flowers for the forest. She's backed out so far to see the big picture, she no longer acknowledges or cares about the small things, the soft, animal things that make a life good, the little, inconsequential joys.

Like in the ruined city, there was a marketplace. Built in the rubble and destruction of the old world, people still gathered and set up bright little tents to trade and deal and interact with each other. Jorge found and kept an old record player and a vinyl. Chuck taught himself to carve and made a figure for a mother he didn't remember.

Thomas sees these things as proof there's still hope, still good, something worth protecting.

Teresa looks at them but doesn't see them. All she can see is WCKD and their mission because that is what's good.

If a few die for the masses, then that's fine. It has to be.

If a few trees have to be cut down to build something new, it's fine. There's a whole forest after all, and neither Teresa nor WCKD ever considers that nothing worthwhile can grow back through all the blood.

love this metaphor

the mini ecosystems and wildlife in a forest can seem like little specks when you zoom out to examine the whole region. even Great Plains with its sea of tall grass and wild fauna, you can forget about what creatures lie at the roots and inside the grass

and yes wildfires do scorch and burn away a valuable ecosystem for a time, but just because it’s regrowth is slow does not mean the loss of that piece is gone. it will not be the same and the ecosystem will change, but to force it and cut down its trees or uproot the grass for an environment more fitting and efficient in your eyes is also not the solution

Lost Pup!

Life had been sort of uneventful, aside from the new people Minry had met recently. So on that particular day where work was not something she had to concern herself with, Minry decided to savor her tranquility by visiting the park with Babu. The Chow Chow was growing fast so longer walks were a must to make sure the pup had his energy drained to sleep better.

The toy of choice was the classic tennis ball, but this one was red. Something simple but effective and colored oddly enough to stand out. Minry threw it once more, before she'd quickly check the latest notifications on her phone. "Hey hey, I know you're not tired yet." She said, noticing Babu was not her feet yet. Minry raised her head, but her eyes couldn't find Babu. A sense of unease crept over Minry, her heart beginning to race.

"Babu?" She called, confusion taking over but quickly it turned into legitimate worry. There weren't many other people around and not close enough so Babu would approach playfully. "Babie?" Minry called louder for an alternative version of the dog's name.

Minry's ears started to ring, with the affliction of the situation. Central Park was safe, but still surrounded by streets roads with cars. Walking towards the direction she threw the ball, even the dog's toy was nowhere to be found. Frantic, Minry walked towards the nearest person, but he hesitated for a moment, her hands trembling, before mustering the courage to speak.

"Excuse me," Minry began, her voice shaking with emotion. "I-I'm sorry to bother you, but have you seen a medium white Chow Chow dog? His name is Babu, pastel pink collar and probably carrying a red tennis ball in his mouth." She's fast to reach for her phone and show a picture of the pup. "I looked at my phone for a second…" Her eyes started to tear up and Minry would look around nervously.

The Old Guard

Janson has been tasked with tracing a group of immortals through time, to find and apprehend them. But they're good at staying hidden, which makes him think they've been doing it long, long before they started getting caught on camera. He's only been able to find fragments, glimpses of them here and there across history. He's putting together a story - headed up by Newt and Thomas, partners that have never been recorded far apart, though generally under the radar and at times under married aliases - the group is rounded out by Minho and Gally who tend to crop up in disaster zones including notable wars, and Sonya and Harriet, who have been connected to social justice and activism endeavours since the 50s. Janson won't give up, too much rides on it, but the group are still lost in the wind.

So, this was a little last minute addition for @dream0fspring (mostly bc @harveylovesmike I knew she had yours covered! but I adore you both) and I know that The Old Guard is a huge love right now. The idea came for putting together a collage kind of like the one Copley has in the film, trying to trace Andi's immortal group across the years. Only... make it TMR. For all its rush, and for all the other things I'd love to have crammed in there, it was fun to put together. Part of the joy here was finding some good pics of everyone that looked like they were taken without knowledge, since they'd be avoiding cameras, and trying to show some possible variety of time and walks of life. I'm particularly fond of Hacker Harriet and that one of Newt I think fitted my mental image so well.

And the best headcanon that came from this, thanks to the tmr discord, is all the hundreds or thousands of marriages newt and thomas have accrued over many many years. They have a collection of certificates from just about everywhere, some more than once and a growing collection of wedding and engagement symbols and tokens since their ring collection got truly obscene and they decided to branch out.

so !! i figured i'd give a bit of a health update/where i'm at since i sorta just dropped off the face of the earth again. the back issue is resolved to a degree but i'll need a couple more sessions with a chiropractor most likely. but that's also not really the only health issue i've been dealing with so i've just been super low energy/motivation. but things are improving & i'm hoping to get back to the blog in the new year once all the holiday excitement dies down & i've had a few more weeks for physio ( & hopefully a new medication starts to show some benefits by then as well )

i do enjoy coming up with gift asks for blogs/muses for any major connections with my own tho so i may or may not try to come up with a few to send in tmr or maybe the day after depending on when/if i think of something good

anyway i'm off to play some video games with my kid cousin while she's staying with us & be the fun cousin that i am :)

well, it’s said that Albert Einstein defined insanity as repeating the same task over and over and over and over and over and over and over thinking you will find a different result

and science experimentation is designed in a way to repeat trials over and over and over and over and over to see where certain factors differ and if your data has enough consistency and accuracy to be viable

so for me, that’s my time loop for her. she wants to aid WXKD in their endeavor in finding the Cure, but she also wants Thomas there along with her. unfortunately, Teresa cannot have both

you can see it in the books and movies but i think it needs some more fleshing out because yes she cannot have both but Teresa refuses that truth and tries many attempts (trials) to change his mind and prove WCKD is good

she ignored the data staring her in the face because of her own personal biases and desires to keep two things that will never combine the way she wants them to

Thomas will always rebel whether he was indoctrinated or Swiped or given her sob story. and even if he did agree, it wouldn’t feel satisfactory for her. she would constantly be trying to convince herself and Thomas that what they’re doing is for a good cause, but Thomas isn’t happy nor does he talk to her. it unsettles her to the point that whether she got her way or not, the result isn’t her ideal and it leads to her spiral

which is my humble opinion on how her arc should go Mr Dashner, sir :P
