Saw this amazing animation reel by animator Curie Lu and was inspired to do some animation with glowing freckles Danny.
I also made a second version with a special effect on the eyes like in the reference but I'm not sure whether it looks better or worse:

Dp x Dc AU: Jazz Fenton, after years of fixing her brotherâs injuries, becomes a Doctor with an inclination towards behavioral health and psychology- In order to make the difference she wants to see in the world she joins Dr. Leslie Thompkinâs practice.Â
Jazz Fenton, M.D. has spent years of her life doing research, doing the hard work and the emotional labor, and finally, finally, sheâs joining a practice she can feel 100% confident in. Sheâs goddamn good doctor and she wants to make the biggest impact that she can.Â
Dr. Thompkins (who insists that she call her Leslie as theyâre colleagues now), is a kind woman, sharp as a tack and keeps her practice open at odd hours to help the most unfortunate. It took some time for them to bond and trust to be built, but now Jazz is being allotted a few night shifts here and there.Â
Itâs incredible. Jazz gets to spend time with the kids who come in and really talk to them (in addition to getting them antibiotics, heating pads and pokemon themed bandaids) to help equip them with a few coping skills. Her passion for psychology never disappeared after all, but the expansive knowledge of how to heal the human body has made her find a sense of fulfillment like no other.
Having proven herself and worn Leslie down, Jazz now takes up about 1/3 of all the night shifts in the month. Sheâs hoping to get to 50/50 by the end of the year but sheâs content with what she has. Danny keeps odd hours anyway so calling him after work on her walk home can happen any time of day and he will always answer enthusiastically.Â
Itâs a particularly busy night before he comes in. The Red Hood.Â
He was known for being an ally to Leslie, despite being on contentious terms with the Bats, but Jazz had never asked directly. Never one to turn away a patient with bullet hole wounds, she hops into action to get his wounds cleaned, sewed up and gauze wrapped. Sheâs handing him a sheet (an Infographic! Dani made it with her! Graphic design is her passion!) on how to care for his wounds when he first seems to recognize that sheâs not Leslie.Â
âNo, Of course not. Iâm Dr. Fenton. I canât blame you for not remembering but I did introduce myself as you bled in the entry way. Youâre Red Hood, right?âÂ
âHm. Didnât realize the practice was expanding. Where can I find-â He grumbles before pushing her hand aside from where she had still been supporting his shoulder.
âHold on there, mister. Youâre going home, youâre following this infographic and youâre going to get some sleep.âÂ
âLady you donât know-â His voice modulated ton came across antagonistically. As if he was trying to intimidate her. Ha, Jazz rolls her eyes at the inclination.
âWho Iâm talking to? Who Iâm dealing with? Youâre hilarious. I can eat you vigilanteâs hero complexes for breakfast. Tell me who Iâm calling to pick you up and then you can say thank you.â Jazz snaps at him. It really had been a long night but his whole dialogue thus far is making her a bit batty.Â
âOh really Doc? You know Leslieâs tough shit, and from what I can tell youâve got nothing on her-âÂ
âTrying to make me feel insufficient when I just saved your life? Thatâs cute. Iâm sure a lifetime of abandonment by both of your parental figures gave you that. Iâm also sure that you inherited this desire to prove youâre not going to be dependent on anyone who wants to help from whoever got you dressing up in tights to fight crime in the first place. Again, Iâd love to talk at length about how predictable you-âÂ
âBwah- wait- Iâm Predictable? Youâre probably some nepobaby who had parents who told her she could have the world-â But Jazz cuts him off with hysterical laughter- he couldnât be further from the truth. Her parents loved her, but nepotism? With what, the ghosts? If anything she got that from Danny, but he doesnât need to know about her ghostly titles.Â
âYouâre just some guy who came back from the dead and made his trauma everyone elseâs issue. So shut it. And tell me how Iâm getting you home from this clinic.â She seethes though her voice stays devastatingly level with each word.Â
Speechless for a moment, he eventually relents to Jazz that heâs already called for help on the comms but it will be hours before they can come for a pick up. The sun had already come up and the night had been over for most of them before Hood had walked into trouble. She groans and the realizes the time for herself and the empty clinic around them.
âFine. My shift just ended anyway. Iâll get you home in one piece and I swear to all the ancients that youâd better follow the directions on the infographic.âÂ
And thatâs how Jazz ended up calling her brother while supporting the weight of a grown ass man (who no longer wanted to talk to her) on her walk home.Â
The next time Red Hood appears in her clinic, heâs brought a dozen roses in addition to the cut on his neck that definitely needs to be pressurized like ASAP. Did he stop for the flowers on his way to the clinic? Heâs going to pass out from blood loss! She doesnât even like roses!

Haunted car au pt 4
Previous
Jason was worried. He bet the new kid some good money to just put a sticker on the Batmobile. It would serve B right for parking it so close to his Alley, and let him give the kid some cash for new clothes. The kid hadn't come back, though. It shouldn't have taken him this long. He had watched the alley that Bruce had parked, only to see the Batmobile launch out from in between the buildings and speed off. When he checked the alley, there was no kid. He knew the kid would not have been hit by the car, too many sensors for that, but where was he? Jason decided to make a call.
âHey, O? Could you check the cameras where the Batmobile was just parked?â
âWhat a surprise Jay, what am I looking for?â Babs joked lightly, Jason could hear her typing though.
âA kid, adoption bait, gave him a bet to put a sticker on the Batmobile to piss off B. He never came back out and the Batmobile just left. He isn't in the alley.â
âI see him enter, but the cameras in the alley are spotty. It looks like he may have gone under the car, but the static gets bad after that. It clears up a bit after the Batmobile leaves. I don't see anyone leaving from the other side, though.â Barbara hummed.
âWait, did the little punk try to put the sticker on the bottom of the car? Cheeky shit. B wouldn't have seen that for weeks, he just did a tune up.â Jason chuckled. âKid probably got a zap from the anti-tamper B put on after that prank a few years back. But where did he go after that?â
âI don't know Jason, the only other way out could be the storm drain, he is small enough for it.â
âLittle guy is probably mad at me if he did get zapped, he will come back for the money though.â Jason paused. âKeep an eye out though, he is fresh meat here and is still learning the ropes.â
âOf course Jay, does he have a name? Age?â
âDanny, though he is gaining the nickname 'Scrappy' for his tinkering and rabid fighting style. I think he is about 14 years old, but he is tiny. Some 10 year olds here are taller than him. He is almost like a mini-me, so keep him from the fam as much as you can.â Jason let his worry bleed into his voice, knowing Babs would keep it to herself.
âUnderstood, I will give you a call if I see him. Let me know if you find him first?â Barbara asked softly.
â âCourse, O.â Jason hung up and looked down the alley again, hoping the kid would pop up demanding the money, and hopefully more if he did get zapped. But silence was all he got.

Thisâll probably be my last submission for @green-with-envy-phandom-event this year. This line art is from @wynterfay (I hope I have the correct @ down)
For once I tried manually placing stars for accuracy! Bet you can guess which two constellations I managed to fit in there, but it may be a bit tricky :3 It may not be 1-to-1 accurate, I did eyeball it after all, but they are in fact next to each other!
Final thoughts under the cut.
This event has been a great learning experience for me and I had so so much fun! Iâve learned a lot about how Procreate works, how to use the tools it provides, and to stop using procreate and go back to Sketchbook. (Took a whole year to figure that out TwT) You might be able to tell I colored this and the Inkling Danny in Autodesk Sketchbook! Iâll probably continue to use Procreate for animation until I find a better software I can use on my iPad, but for now it seems Procreate is not for me after all. The past week of using Autodesk Sketchbook has been freeing and I hope it brings better quality with it!
Also Iâve never done ambient soft lighting like this before as far as I can tell! Any drawings I could find from the past several years have had distinct and direct light sources and an overall direction the light is coming from! I hope I did this one the justice it deserves at least!
#greenwithenvy2025#danny phantom#dp#Wynter#I pulled out all of the old texturing techniques for this one! All of the classic tricks I learned from years of Sketchbook use!#Iâve been recommended either upgrading to the paid version or trying out Clip Studio Paint#my partner uses clip studio and it has a lot of tools I was failing to find on Procreate (ASB turns out to have one of them)#and one of my teammates on yellow uses it professionally to do flats and even showed me how it works! It was so cool!#Everyone has been so nice and Iâve learned so much! Thank you so so much for the experience! Hope I can do even better next year!

Ghost Hunting Vigilantes
Ouija Board Prompt Idea Continuation...? Maybe!
Follow up part directly to this: Ghost Hunting Vigilantes #2
A/N: You guys are awesome. Comments and Reblogs gave me so much inspiration I ended typing this down during Lunch Break. Also I just might have wanted to image Tim going all out on the ghost investigation, I blame watching to many TFIL Overnight videos...
You would think that as Ghost King Danny would be able to learn from his mistakes, and he really could learn from his mistakes but for some reasons, this was something he was not learning from as he floated above the vigilantes curious. He wasn't going to mess with them again, Lady Gotham had beat that into his skull at least. Not like he did the first time but apparently the old city spirit was rather protective of her 'knights'.
Still their first meeting had gotten the Ghost King curious. It wasn't just about the matter with the Red Hood Guy, something he had promised Lady Gothom to take care of as compensation once he figured out what was up with him. But these guys seemed to have gotten an interest in ghost communications now.
So a couple weeks later he was floating invisible once again above them watching the RR Teen - by now he had learned that RR stood for Red Robin and he had snickered at the realization that his hero name was also the name of a Dinner - was laying out cat balls all around the room before setting up some other devices.
The Kid, Robin, was sitting cross legged and arms crossed on the ground and looked very grumpy. Danny could hear the kid mutter something about Pit Demons and that they should get rid of them instead of trying to communicate. The kid had yelled that before and Lady Gotham had never explained that in her lectures about how he should treat her 'knights'. What were Pit Demons? Was that a ghost variant his kingly tutors had failed to tell him about? If they were his subjects and tormenting humans he would need to deal with them, before the GIW became aware of them.
The one in blue, Nightwing if he remembered correctly, was laying out the Ouija Board again at the same place it lay last time. Danny noticed that the guy was looking at the board with curious confusion and for a moment the Ghost King wondered if he had left some traces on the board when his own ectoplasm soaked it.
"Think that ghost will appear again?" The girl in purple was also there again and next to her was another girl dressed in darker colors. Spoiler and Orphan according to Tucker and the city spirit.
"It's a Pit Demon. Stop calling it a ghost." Robin cut it glaring heated at them all. Danny muffled a snicker. The poor kid was definitely not very good at handling the ghostly things but by saying the Ghost King was Pit Demon the kid appeared to be braver about the whole situation these vigilantes were 'investigating' and setting themselves up for.
"I am more worried that Replacement got scammed buying all these things." Red Hood huffed as he was turning around and looking at a controller-like thing in his hands. Danny floated closer looking over the tall guy's shoulder. The thing had five LEDs in different colors and EMF Meter was written on it. Huh, was that thing like the Fenton-Finder? Well his parents had to get the idea for their inventions from somewhere.
A high pitched beep resounded in the room and all eyes turned to Red Robin who was finishing up setting a small box with an antenna. Danny recognised this one from online ghost hunting videos Sam has made him watch as a joke, a REM Pod. Oh so all the stuff they laid around the room including the cat balls were options for him to use? That was pretty nice of them considering the first time they were just playing around with a Ouija Board.
"We are all set up and good to start." Red Robin said as he stood up facing the rest of the vigilantes proudly and Danny arched an eyebrow. "We can now investigate if this 'ghost' is a Pit Demon or has anything to do with the Lazarus Pits or Water and what they want here in Gotham! I missed out on getting a sample last time but hopefully they will be willing to give me one this time."
The Lazarus' what now? Danny blinked at the teen stunned. He had only played a joke on them and Lady Gotham had already sorta punished him for it. If getting hit by a ghost club and lectured on knightly etiquette counted as punishment, which in his opinion did. Why were they making such a big deal out of this anyway?
"Don't we need to⊠like open a veil and introduce ourselves?"
"No."
"Oh come on Baby Bird. We have to be polite."
"Says the fucker who secretly attempted to use the Ouija Board behind our backs." Red Hood grumbled turning on the controller in his hand and nearly dropped it as the LEDs all started to glow and it let out a long drawn out beep. Danny blinked at it, he was still floating around the tall guy's shoulders.
"Fuck! The hell is with that thing?"
"Oh! Oh! The ghost is already here!"
"It is a Pit Demon."
All the vigilantes suddenly looked a lot more on alert, Danny held back a chuckle as he floated away from Red Hood and over to Nightwing. The LEDs went down to two and Danny suppressed a hum in curriousity. Did Red Hood have a signature that thing was picking up on? Was the guy a halfa in the making? He didn't appear to have any of the signs Vlad had told him about once.
"Hey so are you the one we talked to last time?"
Seeing the board as the closest thing to communicate by him, he reached out and moved that wooden piece to YES. The vigilantes looked among themselves and Danny floated over to the kid that started nervously playing with a cat ball that had been placed near him, wondering if he could send out like a calming aura for the kid.
Lady Gotham hadn't needed to hit him that hard, seeing the kid now made the Ghost King feel guilty for scaring the poor boy the way he did. Even if he didn't know what all that Lazarus Stuff was about yet. He mentally noted that down, maybe Clockwork, Pandora or one of the annoying Observants had an idea.
"So are you a Pi-"
"Are you okay?" Nightwing cut in, interrupting the question Red Robin was going to ask and Danny blinked. Huh that was new. It's been a while since anyone aside from his sister and best friends asked him that.
He floated towards the RR teen and he lightly touched the REM Pod's antenna, it let out a different pitched beep than it had before causing the teen that stood by it to jump up and turn around staring at it with wide eyes. "I didn't touch it!"
Spoiler rolled her eyes. "Of course you didn't, Mr. Ghost did."
"The ghost could be a girl for all we know."
"It's 16."
"The voice we heard last time sounded like a male teen though."
"It is a Pit Demon, it most likely lied to us."
Rude, Danny didn't lie. He picked up one of the cat balls, it started instantly lighting up because of the movement, and lightly threw it at the kid that caught the ball on reflex. Wide eyed they all stared at the still blinking ball. "DidâŠ. did the ghost just fucking throw that at Demon Brat?"
"I only ever saw in videos how ghosts lightly touch it to make it blink. I have never seen a ghost throw it like that."
Danny snickered into his hand to muffle it. Robin suddenly dropped the ball like it had burned his hand glaring at nothing as his eyes wandered over the room. "Show yourself Pit Demon!"
He floated over to Nightwing and the Ouija Board again, passing Red Hood who was still holding the EMF Meter that hit all five LEDs for a moment and beeped when he passed by. Making the tall guy jolt and stare down at it. He swiftly moved the wooden piece to NO.
After last time and the beating Lady Gotham gave him with her ghost club, he was not going to show himself. Not even with a little ectoplasm-avatar blob form. Okay maybe he will later on, when he was sure they wouldn't suddenly start attacking it again. He didn't see any of his parents' weapons with them but he wasn't going to risk it. Considering what Red Hood had said earlier, Red Robin might have bought some more stuff he had not shown or laid out yet.
"I demand that you show yourself, Demon!" The kid was pulling out his katana looking ready for a fight.
Now that was rude. Danny was a half ghost. Not a Demon. They were an entirely different species. Sure they were sort of a part of the Infinite Realms but like Ghost are formed from ambient ectoplasm, strong wills and emotions. Demons were like a living breathing species that needed to eat actual food like humans and not entirely made of ectoplasm.
Danny didn't move a single finger to respond to Robin's demand, silently scoffing.
"They are not ghosting us now are they?" Nightwing carefully asked after the silence had dragged on. Red Robin sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I swear if you made them leave, I will not include you the next time we investigate this 'Pit Demon' as you call them."
"Come on guys! We can't give up now. Maybe we can call them back?" Spoiler added, Orphan next to her nodded enthusiastically.
"This thing is still glowing on two LEDs." Red Hood added holding up the EMF Meter for the rest of them to see.
"So it's still around?"
"Probably."
There was more silence and an idea sparked in Danny's head as he suppressed a snicker and carefully floated over to the REM Pod making sure to avoid Red Hood and not alerting the thing in his hand. He crouched by the box, studying it for a little bit and making sure not to touch it to accidentally set it off too soon.
"It's been too quiet. Are you sure it didn't leave?"
"Still on two LEDs."
"This demon is a coward."
"You're not making it better Baby Bird."
"We should have gotten Signal to come too. He probably could have told us for sure if they are still around or not."
"Maybe we should pack up and try another time again?"
"But we didn't even get the ghost's name!"
Taking this as his que to give a sign of 'life' from him again, Danny touched the REM Pods antenna with a certain rhyme in mind. He wasn't hitting the notes correctly but the pitches were different enough from each other that these vigilantes would recognise what he was doing.
They jumped at first at the sudden noise until slowly realization dawned for some of them. The girls started to laugh after a moment and Red Hood also chuckled with the realization. Nightwing didn't look exactly ecstatic but he did seem ready to burst out laughing. Robin looked rather confused and annoyed and Danny wondered if the kid had any meme knowledge while Red Robin groaned but then appeared to smile in good humor.
Once Danny stopped playing with the REM Pod, Red Robin walked over to a table and put the case under it on top. He opened it and placed a raidio looking like thing on the table as well as a camera with a screen on it.
"Now, Mr. Ghost. I know you have a voice we heard before but you seem to appear to prefer not talking to us directly and whatever made you talk last time doesn't seem to be around tonight. So I have a spirit box and a SLS Camera additionally prepared here." Red Robin switched on the 'radio' and it started making white noises filtering through radio channels, he turned back towards the room holding the camera up with the screen facing the teen. The other vigilantes also appeared stunned by how prepared Red Robin was. Danny could only blinked as he realized that Red Robin was pointing it directly at him and for a second he wondered if that thing was actually picking up his movements or if it only picked up static or blurred images like the cameras back at home that were not old film.
"Let's have a talk this way, shall we?"
-Seriously?- Danny muttered making sure he was using ghost speech so they wouldn't hear him only to slap his hands in realization over his mouth as the Spirit box statically repeated his words understandable for them.
Wide eyed he stared at Red Robin who grinned triumphantly at him, he was still invisible at least... right?

A PERFECT CIRCLE â PASSIVE
Passive is a song that went through numerous controversies but still managed to carve its own unique path in A Perfect Circleâs discography, also making a strong appearance in the film Constantine (2005). Featured on the album eMOTIVe (2004), Passive is essentially a remake of the song Vacant, originally created by Tapeworm â a project founded by Trent Reznor himself.

«One of the recordings of the old "Vacant" performed by Maynard»
The reason youâve most likely never heard of Tapeworm is quite simple: the project never officially released anything, despite numerous mentions in the press. Originally, Tapeworm was conceived as a side project by Nine Inch Nails, but over time it evolved into a collective featuring several other musicians (such as Maynard James Keenan â Toolâs frontman â as well as Danny Lohner and Atticus Ross). In 2004, Reznor disbanded the project, citing label complications and a growing lack of interest from the group itself.

â « Maynard Keenan, Danny Lohner, Atticus Ross, Trent Reznor »

During one of his concerts, Maynard suddenly performed Vacant â a song for which he wrote the lyrics back in 1999, while Trent Reznor contributed the chorus and backing vocals (that's why many still credit him as a co-writer). The music was composed by Danny Lohner, and Charlie Clouser was in charge of the mix â both were closely connected to Nine Inch Nails at the time.
Interestingly, Reznor originally did not approve of Vacantâs performance and was annoyed by Maynardâs decision (though their conflict eventually blew over, and the friends reconciled). During its transformation into Passive, the song found a new life and a unique voice within A Perfect Circleâs repertoire.

youtube
â «Trent Reznor about Maynard and Tapeworm»

(for those who don't want to watch, there is text below)
In his recollections of the project, Reznor says:

âThe question that sticks with me. One of those things I was talking about years ago. Tapeworm â just to clear things up, Iâve already started to forget what it was â but Iâm sure I came to realize that everything I was trying to do was a waste of time, because back then I was afraid to write new Nine Inch Nails albums, so I kept myself busy with side projects while I was living in New Orleans. I felt busy, but without much pressure in what I was doing. Maynard and I became friends over the years and tried to work together on this project, which also involved Danny Lohner and Atticus Ross. We tried to create a kind of democracy and see what we could come up with together.>> Maynard and I successfully did our respective things (Tool and Nine Inch Nails). But the final result was honestly just mediocre. I think it was due to a lack of focus and the commercial pressures that directly influenced us. Not from each of us individually, but from the overall climate at the time â it was the late nineties â when record labels put pressure on you to produce what I previously hinted at. If you tried to promote your record on the radio, you suddenly lost a ton of opportunities if it didn't make it there.>> Itâs not just a matter of money, but a range of pressures that can affect many people. The music we made, and that we presented under the name Tapeworm, just never really went that far â it kind of fell into a similar groove. When you combine Tool and NIN, itâs supposed to be a 10 out of 10, not a 7. And I couldnât shake the feeling that we kept landing at 7, which is ultimately why I decided to let it go. So thereâs really not much to learn from it. I love Maynard â heâs a good friend â and Iâm sure weâll try to do something together again thatâs truly a 10 out of 10.â

â Finally, we come to that very scene in the movie where Passive is playing.

youtube
Director Francis Lawrence carefully crafted the filmâs soundscape, aiming to immerse the viewer in a supernatural, gothic world tinged with despair. Passive fit perfectly into this aesthetic.
The official music video for Passive also included footage from Constantine, adding a special atmosphere to the song.
In the film, the track plays during the scene where John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) enters Papa Midnightâs nightclub (played by Djimon Hounsou) to gather information about a demon invasion into the human world. The music serves as a background, blending seamlessly with the dark, ominous visuals, making the sceneâs immersion absolutely spot on!
â Thank you for your attention and time!

Danny sat in the back of one of the transport trucks currently on the way to Arkham, his hands in his lap.
So far, everything was going to plan.
About a quarter of the team had gotten themselves admitted into Arkham in the days leading up to the raid, carefully sneaking in supplies and weapons for both themselves and the rogues they were going to free.
Half of the team was on trucks, ready to storm the building with their fancy new tech. A couple others were keeping an eye out for the Bats, and the last one was holed up in a recently condemned building, ecto-modified sniper rifle in hand, ready to fire.
Dannyâs hands were cold.
He hadnât always run cold, from what he remembered. Even after he diedâhell, even after he started developing his ice powersâhe had always been warm.
Now, though, his body was freezing.
Maybe it was because of the ecto siphoning he and Derringer had done the day before.
He couldnât make the ecto guns work without fueling them, after all, and the only ectoplasm he had access to was the stuff inside his body. So, he had Derringer hook him up to a GiW machine and filter the ecto out of his blood.
The process was excruciating.
Not only did he get light-headed from the loss of fluids, the machine also chilled his blood considerably during the filtering process, and when it was pumped back into his body, it was freezing. Derringer had to cover him with heating pads and thick blankets to get him to stop shaking.
Still, that had been a little over eighteen hours ago, so that probably wasnât it.
Maybe it was just another side affect of his time with the GiW.
Overuse of his ghostly wail, he had realized earlier, was the reason that he had lost his voice permanently. Maybe he had accidentally used his ice too many times the same way, and now his body was irrevocably changed. Maybe warmth was just another tiny privilege he had taken for granted, that had now been lost forever.
Danny stared down at his hands.
Maybe his body had just given up entirely on keeping him warm, on pretending to be human.
âKid, you alright? Weâre almost there.â
Derringerâs voice snapped Danny out of his thoughts.
âYeah,â Danny signed, âjust tired. And cold.â
âWeâve got to get you a jacket, kid,â Derringer said, âitâs not even winter and I already have to worry about you freezing to death.â
âI died a long time ago, itâs fine.â
âNo,â one of the other men in the truck drawled, âit means youâve got to be extra careful. Youâve got a second chance at living, so you better not screw it up.â
âWhat did he say?â
âDanny thinks that because heâs died before, he doesnât need to worry about freezing to death.â
The truck went quiet for a few moments. Most of the guys in there didnât know he had died before. He didnât exactly like to advertise the fact.
âI have a cousin who had a heart attack, and it only made his heart worse,â one of the guys near the front of the truck offered.
âSee, kid?â Derringer said, âIâm right. As soon as this is over, youâre getting a jacket.â
Danny crossed his arms, slumping over in his seat with a huff.
A few moments later, a loud clang echoed through the truck. Danny jolted, almost falling out of his seat.
The door opened, the driver looking at them with boredom written all over his face.
âAlright, up and at em. Itâs go time,â he mumbled, smacking the door loudly for emphasis. âThe sooner weâre done, the sooner we can leave.â
They all stood, hopping out of the truck and making their way to the fence line.
Danny moved his hand to the bandolier on his chest, fingers brushing against the small ecto-bombs he had attached to it.
There were five of them, their bodies made of tempered glass and black steel, and they glowed a sickly green in the night. They were designed mainly for combat; he had a few larger ones meant to blow a hole in a wall in his backpack, which was securely zipped shut.
His hand then drifted to the holster on his left side, and the ecto-gun nestled securely within it.
Most of his parentsâ inventions were far too big and bulky to be practical in any real combat setting, so he had downsized them considerably. The weapon he had was modeled after a standard glock pistol, matte black paint covering the GiW white of the gunâs body.
The gun should be able to fire around fifty shots a minute without overheating, which was more than enough for Danny. Hopefully, he wouldnât have to fire a single round tonight. However, for whatever reason, the words should and hopefully didnât inspire much confidence in him.
Danny followed the group as they snuck up to the facility, Derringer by his side.
Originally, neither of them were going to go on the raid, but someone on the patient list had caught Dannyâs eye, so he decided he would investigate in person. Derringer was just along for the ride because Mr. Cobblepot wasnât willing to lose an asset as valuable as Danny.
Danny would make it up to the bodyguard later, he decided.
Entering Arkham was, all things considered, pretty easy. Mr. Cobblepot had connections to a few of the orderlies, and it was all too easy to convince them to âforgetâ a few steps in setting up the security system for the night.
However, since nothing can ever just be simple, they ran into an unexpected patrol of nightshift guards just a few minutes after all splitting up to find the rogues.
Danny and Derringer were able to take them down pretty quickly, but not before they sounded the alarms. And, according to a few guys on the comms, they werenât the only ones to run into guards where they shouldnât be.
âThey must have changed their patrols,â Derringer huffed, spinning the pistol in his hands, âcâmon, letâs go see about freeing our good friend Victor Fries.â
Danny nodded, scampering after the man as he sprinted through the halls.
The inmates, who had woken up from the loud alarmâs continuous blaring, shouted at them from their cells. Dannyâs pulse was loud in his ears, drowning everything out.
Distantly, he wondered if those guards were going to die. Maybe they were dead already.
He supposed that it didnât really change much if they were.
Soon, they were at the cell. It was custom-built to hold Mr. Freeze, constantly kept at subzero temperatures to avoid killing him.
Derringer hefted his bag off of his back, pulling out the suit and freeze gun that Mr. Cobblepot had procured. As he did so, Danny took a few of the larger ecto-bombs and placed them on the joints of the door.
They carefully moved away, putting some distance between themselves and the door, and Danny detonated it.
The explosion was loud. It shook the entire building, the shockwave knocking Danny to the floor.
Danny brought his hand up to his safety goggles, yanking a small piece of metal shrapnel out of them and dropping it on the floor. He was dimly aware of more pieces sticking out of his kevlar suit. Derringer was similarly peppered with metal, luckily uninjured as well.
They had come from the body and mechanism of the bomb, he realized. Heâd have to fix that later.
Mr. Freeze emerged from the cell a few moments later, a scowl on his face. Derringer quickly shoved the suit and freeze gun into his hands and he retreated back into the cell for a few moments, getting dressed.
âI could have died from that, you know,â he hissed. âKilled by some amateurs with shoddy explosives.â
âThe Penguin sent us,â Derringer said, ignoring the manâs clear annoyance, âour getaway car is outside. If youâd come with usâŠâ
Mr. Freeze nodded sternly.
âHurry up, then.â
Derringer and Danny hurried out, Mr. Freeze right behind them. Then, at a certain hallway, Danny paused.
He had to check.
âKid,â Derringer barked, âwe have to go.â
Danny shook his head.
âYou go,â he signed, hands trembling, âI have to check.â
âOh, whatâs the problem now?â Mr. Freeze asked, his frown more pronounced by the minute.
âDannyâŠâ Derringer sighed, âDanny thinks his sister might be in here. He hasnât seen her in years. Itâs the whole reason he was a part of the Arkham raid, actually.â
Mr. Freeze paused for a moment.
âWell, lead the way, then,â he said, clearly regretting his words as soon as he said them. Danny just nodded, scurrying forward, the other two men close behind him.
They came to the right cell quickly. Danny looked in through the glass, and he felt a piece of himself shatter.
That was Jazz, his sister, sitting in a padded wall wearing a straightjacket and a muzzle.
She didnât bother looking up at them as they arrived, not stirring even when Danny slammed his hands on the door to get her attention.
Shakily, he attached an ecto-bomb to the door, hoping with all his might that she wouldnât get hurt.
The door blew open, and Danny rushed in.
Jazzâs head swiveled to look up at him, her eyes narrowed.
He slipped the goggles up and his bandanna down, exposing his face as he came to kneel beside her.
Slowly, her expression shifted to shock.
âJazz,â he creaked, his broken vocal chords cracking painfully as he spoke, âitâs me.â
She looked at him like a deer caught in the headlights.
âDanny?â
He nodded, pulling her into a hug, careful not to let the shrapnel dig into her skin.
âI thought you wereâŠâ
âVery heartwarming,â Mr. Freeze snapped, âbut now isnât the time. Weâve got to go, now.â
Jazz nodded, leaping to her feet. Danny stood as well, slipping his mask and bandanna back on, and grabbing onto one of her arms for support.
They left the cell, Danny doing a double-take as he saw the frozen-over pathway that they had just come from. He looked to Mr. Freeze, tilting his head questioningly.
âThere were guards,â he said flatly. âNow hurry up, we need to get out of here.â
Derringer grabbed the two of them, dragging them along as he sprinted through the hallways. They had to take a bit of a detour, coming out of the main entrance instead of the side one they had entered.
Unfortunately, there was an active gunfight going down.
Danny was roughly pulled behind a desk, just barely dodging a few rounds.
His hands shook as he pulled a small ecto-bomb from his bandolier, priming it and throwing it at a small grouping of night guards. They cried out as the pure ectoplasm collided with them, covering their bodies in burns.
The smell, while familiar to Danny, was still horrific.
They took a few shots off at the night guards, trying to take them down. Their group was efficient, but with the rate they were going at, it wasnât going to be enough. Only adding to that, the gun Mr. Cobblepot had prepared for Mr. Freeze had broken after just a few uses, leaving them unable to create an ice wall.
Then, Danny heard the sound of a gunâs safety being turned off behind them, and his vision went white.
He grabbed onto Jazz and Derringer, making them intangible right as the night guard opened fire.
Waves of nausea hit him all at once and he doubled over, his vision swimming. Danny was only dimly aware of Jazz taking the guard down with a high kick right to the head, and Derringer pulling him into a protective hold.
Ignoring everything, he pulled the last of the large bombs from his bag, throwing it into the air, pulling everyone behind the desk.
The entire room went white.
Dannyâs ears rung as he scrambled out from behind the reception desk, dragging Jazz with him.
Luckily, none of the hired hands on his team had gotten injured, but the guardsâŠ
Danny looked away, trying to ignore the taste of bile in his mouth.
It was fine. He was fine. Everything would be okay.
The next few minutes were a blur. He knew that he had puked only a few seconds after they had left the building, and that Derringer had picked him up afterwards, carrying him to the truck with Mr. Freeze and Jazz in tow.
Dannyâs entire body was wracked with tremors, an unbearable phantom pain passing through the still-healing surgical wounds in his head and torso like lightning. He dry-heaved, shivering uncontrollably.
They drove off soon after. Luckily, no one had been left behind. Someone, probably Derringer, helped Danny rinse out his mouth and got him a bottle of water to drink, wrapping him in his jacket.
As soon as the truck doors were opened within one of Mr. Cobblepotâs safehouses, Danny became aware of the sound of wailing.
Hopping out of the truck, most of his mind still far away, he saw a man being rolled out of the room on a stretcher. He was one of the people who had been on the other truck, Danny realized.
Beside him was a teenager, probably only a few years younger than Danny, who was screaming and crying uncontrollably. They wailed at Mr. Cobblepot, who only stood there with an uncomfortable expression on his face.
âOh shit,â Derringer breathed. Danny pulled on his sleeve, tilting his head at him questioningly.
âThe guy on the stretcher, thatâs his sibling.â
Danny just stared, a hollow feeling deep in his chest.
Jazz, her arms now freed from the straightjacket, pulled him away from the scene. Danny let her.
