I returned to working in mental health after doing other shit for over twenty years. It's very hands-on and I've been at this for over a year and a half. It's been great. Great team of coworkers, a good mix of autonomy and solid teamwork. A terrific workplace culture, as far as our team goes. (Can't say the same for others.) We collectively keep up our morale, problem-solve seamlessly, support each other without question, and deliver a valuable service to our clients.
So here's where everything might go right into the toilet: Medicaid.
From two directions, the squeeze is coming:
The orgs that pay (Medicaid money) to providers for services are starting to put the squeeze on who can get paid. That, in and of itself, doesn't effect us. But it's a pretty big sign. Especially considering:
We have new requirements.
Enforce certain standards with our clients. Technically, no more drop-in type services.
There are now more/ higher standards for the notes we keep. This is greatly reducing our flexibility
This will all result in some at-risk clients falling through the cracks. And honestly, this could spell shorter lifespans. Literally a death count from this rationing of care. AND
Employees will be cut.
As I was messaging one of my coworkers yesterday, a striking parallel came to mind, and then another and another:
We are essentially competing for the jobs we already have.
The oversight about our reports got ruhdiculous.
I do have maybe two-too-many bosses.
They are relying on attrition by placing these pressures on us.
Oh, for a brief time, before everything crumbles into flames, I may end up replacing my immediate supervisor.
Given the job prospects and heightened competition, I may end up out of this field. But hey, fewer money? Less stress!

I was watching the 1978 Death on the Nile last night and for the first thirty seconds he was on screen I was convinced George Kennedy (above, left) was Michael McKean (above, right) before remembering Michael McKean looks thirty years younger when he plays Mr. Green in Clue, which came out seven years after. Don't they look alike?! but more than that they have the exact same accent and way of speaking.
I looked it up and they are NOT related:
BUT they did both grow up in long island to parents with a mix of irish, english and german heritage!!!!
(also UNRELATED but while I think Peter Ustinov made a better Poirot than Albert Finney, David Suchet is still untouchable. I have not watched the newer ones with Branagh but he plays him as an action star so I'm biased against.)
#why not i'll tag the actors others may find this interesting#michael mckean#george kennedy#tp#also i fell asleep last night before the reveal so time to spin up the last twenty minutes of the movie again#this might be my preferred version of death on the nile compared to the poirot episode#although jj feild!!!!!!!

For some unknown reason (because I haven't listened to it in, like, at least a year?) I had this song, this version of it, stuck in my head, and I actually managed to watch the video for the first time in years and years, and I am so tickled by how Mike PHYSICALLY CANNOT stop smiling. #FANBOYALERT 😂 It's adorable, though.
There's something else I noticed, though, that I wanted to point out...and it's the difference between what the two lead vocalists sing. Note: I did not know the original lyrics of this song before now, so I am [now] aware that Tom Petty basically sings it as it was originally written, which is respectful to the songwriter since he's literally right there with the band on stage, but I still think it's worth considering. Bo Diddley sings "And if I don't love you, I'd surely die," whereas Tom sings "Without your love, I would surely die." And the difference here is: Bo's version is significantly less manipulative than what Tom sings. Bo is saying that if he can't (isn't allowed to) love Mona, he'd most likely die [of heartbreak?] (which can certainly be empathized with, but it's still a tiny bit manipulative). Tom's "Without your love, I would surely die" is demanding Mona's love or else he'd most likely die, and, unlike what Bo sings, he does not declare his own love for Mona. Tom sings the whole fucking song without ever actually saying anything along the lines of "I love you, Mona" and Bo sings ONE VERSE (he even changed his own lyrics!) and says it, easy as pie, and in fact it is the very last statement he sings before the refrain.
#this may be the first and only time I call Michael Campbell adorable and mean it genuinely so jot that down everyone#(and then cross it out in the reddest ink later today)#Howie's harmonies are ONCE AGAIN (ALWAYS) SOOOO BEAUTIFUL ON THIS THOUGH AHHHHHH#Bo Diddley also sounded fantastic btw. he should've sung more than Tom tbh. LOL#me @ TP fans: is that your man? well come get 'im then. lmao 🙃#'Well I tell you Mona what I wanna do/Gonna build my house next door to you' well that sounds fucking threatening. lmao#the original lyrics are 'Tell you Mona what I want to do/Build a house next door to you'#Tom also sings it in the first verse as 'Well I tell you Mona what I'm gonna do/Build a house next door to you'#so either way he sings it it's like...where is the choice? where is Mona's choice? she doesn't actually have any. except in Bo's version!#Youtube

Good Omens Fanfic Friday (04 Apr 2025)
I struck a vein of fantastic stories, and I come to you this week with a wide assortment of tales, from canon to human, G-rated to Explicit, and everything in between.
Cast Adrift (19K; Rated E) by @naromoreau
Fairy Tale AU. Aziraphale is a lighthouse keeper who accidentally summons a gorgeous, red-haired selkie. The selkie lost his pelt in the process, so Aziraphale offers to host him and swears he'll do everything he can to help him recover it. Of course, love follows.
***
Under the Awning (6K; Rated G) by @heyimdove
The rarepair you never thought you'd see: Hastur/Muriel (but note the rating; no worries about finding out what's under Hastur's trenchcoat). A one-shot follow-up for Drinking Buddies and Diaries (31K; Rated NR), Hastur runs into Muriel during a sudden rainstorm and is immediately smitten (and not the way he thought he'd be). There's a little bit of Aziraphale/Crowley here, mostly as they try to figure out why Hastur keeps lurking near the bookshop.
You can read this without reading the first story (though it's fantastic and I highly recommend you do anyway), as long as you just accept that certain things are the way they are.
***
Something There that Wasn't There Before (98K; Rated E) by @zehwulf
Fairy Tale AU. Femme!Crowley and beast!Aziraphale. A bit of Sleeping Beauty; a bit of Cinderella; a bit of Beauty & The Beast. Crowley agrees to be the companion to the cursed Lord Fell for a few weeks at his castle (he was actually just looking for a horse).
It's obvious to everyone else that Crowley is genuinely attracted to Aziraphale, but she also wants out of her terrible home, and Aziraphale worries that she would be bored living with him with his near-hermit lifestyle and doesn't want to give in to his own attraction to the lively woman. Cue angst (but not extensive) and eventually a happy ending.
***
Demon Summoning is More Fun with Friends (7K; Rated G) by @ochre-sunflower
Outsider POV. I had the honor of beta-reading this one, and I couldn't wait for it to be posted so I could tell everyone how wonderful it is. Crowley gets summoned by a cult, and Aziraphale wants to tag along. Matt's POV is amazing, and I loved how in control of the situation the husbands were the entire time.
***
The Nice and Accurate Guide to TPS Reports (74K; Rated T) by @nicetryfed
Human AU. It's Office Space, but make it Good Omens. Aziraphale and Crowley are project managers at rival companies who are tasked to work together on a project no one seems to fully understand. Despite their respective companies' "no fraternization rules," they fall in love. The story follows the basic beats of the original movie while putting an original spin on it. Great use of Muriel in the Milton role.
***
Romancing The Tome (40K; Rated E)
Human AU. If you've seen Romancing The Stone (Michael Douglas/Kathleen Turner) or The Lost City (Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum), you have some idea of what to expect in this adventure story. The sister of popular romance novelist, Aziraphale Wilder, is kidnapped, and Aziraphale is ordered to bring a valuable book to the kidnappers for her safe return. Along the way, he runs into a gorgeous red-haired man who ends up helping him but also seems to have his own motives about the whole situation.
