On Ghezen's Pass

An ambitious project to build an intercolonial railroad system, connecting each of the southern colonies. While the Intercolonial Transit Company has built tracks between each of the colonies, they have not done this without "profit loss" as it were. Independent indigenous peoples have fought against the encroachment of Kerch "progress" into their land. This has resulted in casualties, civilians and combatants, on both sides.

Originally, the railway was dubbed the Intercolonial Transitway. However, since the push to expand the colonies westward and the contract the Transit Company has signed with Kerch's Merchant Council, the railway has come to possess more than an economic meaning but a political one as well.

The West has never been fully mapped by the well over dozen government funded expeditions sanctioned to do so. The most westward colony. Ter Avest, is still a struggle to Kerch and its Merchant Council to maintain a hold over since it's very founding five years ago.

Ghezen's Pass came to be a year into the making of the westward line. When absolutely no progress had been made. Coordinated threats and guerrilla attacks from the Esali and Pecha delayed construction not only on the railroad but also on colonization efforts. Brigands and self-titled "Ranger" gangs, made up of those left unemployed and impoverished due to the construction, began to take advantage of the lawlessness of the region by looting and thieving from supply caravans and established trainways.

When investors started pulling out of the company, the new president of Intercolonial Transit—Reinier Althuis—garnered unlikely support in the Merchant Council by twisting the situation into a national pride issue and changing the railroad name to Ghezen's Pass.

But in its current state, there are few local workers who are up to building the railroad even when the company rose daily pay. As it's simply too dangerous and contrary to popular sentiment. So foreign workers, such as the desperate from Shu Han, Ravka and the Wandering Isle, sign contracts offered by Intercolony for low wages, food, and board.

Layered Metropolis

Almost a requirement for Neo-Atlantis, but the real question is how do you do it without turning it into a dystopia? Because layered Metropolis is also dystopic, right?

If you have a complete lack of ordered regulation. Regulations don't have to be verbose prose that would put War and Peace to shame. For those who think I'm exaggerating, Omnibus Spending Bills in the US can be five times the length of War and Peace.

Honestly, all you have to do is say that every 15 stories, you have to leave room for a parkade, surrounding lobbies, and the ability to allow a highway/trainway/viaduct to be built through it. Why fifteen stories? SimTower. These would be the stopping off point for express elevators, with local elevator access form the sky lobbies. And this solves the elevator problem.

The elevator problem is that conventional elevator designs would take up all of a skyscrappers internal space when you decide to go really big.

In fact, if you mandate elevated interconnection between, you can solve the problem of alternate access in case of emergencies.

Then mandate a minimum distance between skyscrapers, like say, a full block. This would allow light and air access, because our current city designs turn them into pitch black wind tunnels.

i fucking despise being stuck on epic oc/art/worldbuilding ideas for 3939373 years as much as the next guy, but. man. the satisfaction that comes out of mashing multiple ideas together perfectly, even more so if it ties in perfectly with already-established crap that doesn't have to fucking change for it.

anyway. imagine a sci-fi futuristic bozo fuckworld filled with swag robots only. now imagine one previously-existent idea, that scientists at one point, experimented with bacteria to see what they could do. like i don't know, grow a new whole ass beast.

now i want you to imagine a whole ass planet that i had initially written off as "the ginormous mining rig". more ideas, spots and cultures pending.

now, i want you to imagine the desire to make some kind of working subway system/underground city somewhere. and i think, wow, this could possibly go in the funny mining rig planet, because some areas are too extreme to terraform or need to keep the environmental hazards for minerals and meth or whatever.

and now i want you to imagine me turning into gru & his stupid whiteboard. i am laughing like a villain when i look at three separate ideas above coming together, thanks to the fourth swag idea i wanted to pull inspiration from for ages: The Smartest Slime Planning Trainways

now you see. my little science robots can use the already-existent bacteria experiments and expand on those- and through that, after years and years of funny and trivial and gross data. they let them fucking plan a subterranean hub, so they don't go blindly digging for tubers on the mining rig planet. of course this funny city-planning technology would need a stupendous name, but regardless.

sci-fi that isn't "out there" in terms of obscurity besides the usual scawy geometrical triangle of doom or green human aliens or transparent hologram interfaces. eat my fucking ass. forever
