ugh you're right, faith in angel investigations would have been so good 😩 idk if it was about scheduling or s/t else but i'd understand if they'd wanted to avoid there being a Slayer on the team since it could shift the focus from angel as the protag and the one who gets the brunt of the apocalyptic shit on his shoulders. i think their dynamic would have been fun to see more of

No literally it so would have!!!! Like I get they probably felt the need to "finish" Faith's story in btvs but man so much of her character growth happened on ats and I would've loved for her to stick around (or maybe return after btvs finished). I do know that Eliza Dushku was offered a Faith spin off show but turned it down to do Tru Calling so that's probably why they just didn't bring her back (that and what you said about shifting the protag focus) but MAN does she fit the vibe of ats so well. Society if faith and cordy were in s5 of ats

on the Who Could Survive Being Xander's Bisexual Awakening front I see a chunk of people casting their votes for Jesse if he'd lived and while I understand the childhood best bros appeal we have to remember that he was childhood friends with XANDER and WILLOW, two of the most notorious "exes-by-age-6 who can't acknowledge an obvious crush between them for literally our entire lives until we start seeing other people and make it their problem" in media history

do you really think the remaining third of their trio who was absolutely important to them we swear for this episode and then never again sticking around would really make their horrific communication any better if he was zero help with willow's xander crush despite being around their entire lives

and worse Jesse was into CORDELIA so if we ended up in a scenario of a Willow -> Xander -> Jesse -> Cordelia -> Xander sometimes(?) love dodecahedron where Cordy is catty with Xander bc of her being attracted to him against her will and he's extra catty with her for both the same reason and his not-a-crush best friend constantly hitting on her and Jesse won't take no for an answer from Cordy and Willow won't verbalise anything to Xander but get mad at him for being interested in Cordy and/or Jesse regardless then jesus christ we would literally never have time to help Buffy. jesse had to die for the good of the WORLD

wait have you done Cordelius headcanons (I KNOW THIS IS MY SECOND ASK I’MMSORRY)

I think I've done a few HC's with him before, but that was in relation to Lily. I'm not gonna check to see what I have mentioned before so if something comes up twice there, then oh well.

Cordelius HCs

Cordelius was one a humble staff member of the park. He was hired to help the Botany trio of Rosa, Bea, and Sprout to help maintian all the plant life in the park.

Then one day his just disappeared. Most didn't realize he was gone because he was 'just a gardener' and those that did just assumed he quit without notice. How rude.

It was only months later that he was discovered, completely changed and having been trapped in some weird forest/alternate dimension thats encroching on the park. What.

Cordelius was somehow able to explain this all off and the management just. Didnt wanna think too much about it and deal with it so they just let it be. They later decided to make a safer part of that area into an actual attraction because money.

Cordelius' personality changed during his disappearance. While he can get really excitable about things, he was a lot more mild mannered before then. It was like his time there exaggerated his personality.

His name also got oddly changed. His name was Cornelius, and it says so on all the paperwork. But since he got back from the forest hes been insisting that everyone call him Cordelius, and has even updated his paperwork to reflect that.

He doesnt mind being called Cordy though. Which is a relief to the people who were just intimidated by his name.

The only ones who remember Cordelius begore he disappeared (among the brawlers) are the Botany Trio and Gale. Of them only Rosa knows what he looks like now under all his layers, since he wanted to see if there were any other sideeffects to his disappearance.

Cordy rarely removes his mushroom getup since it says it 'makes him one with the shroomies'

Cordy's face is among 'the great mysteries of the brawlers' which include stuff like whats under Otis' masks and the like. Hes gotten quite good at fending off other brawlers from getting to his mask.

Gale was actually good friends with Cordelius even before the incident and was really worried for him when he vanished.

Cordelius isnt one for puns, but he knows enough mushroom puns to fight someone in a pun battle if he gets dragged into one.

Even though mushrooms are his new favorite, he still knows how to deal and care for other plants. He even knows how to do flower arrangements!

Cordelius doesnt actually have a room in the park proper. He claims he has a home in the shadow realm, but others think that he just sleeps in the trash cans.

He is ALWAYS willing to show people around the shadow realm outside of battle. He gets really excited about it, it makes his whole week when someone visits.

kala/rajan/wolfgang ~ sense8 (we were denied a full series arc of them getting together, but frankly i didn't feel it was rushed in the finale. it still felt organic TO ME, largely bc the chemistry between rajan and wolfgang was impeccable immediately)

eliot/hardison/parker ~ leverage (can you believe there's people who watch leverage that don't ship this?!!?!?! there are human beings out there who ship eliot/parker with zero hardison involvement. BAFFLED, FRIENDS)

angel/buffy/cordy ~ btvs/ats (i'm sorry this is based on my own brain falling into the depths of madness when s6/s3 were airing and i was banned from watching buffy so i was reading the transcripts on buffyworld and left to stew over how much i wanted buffy and dawn and tara to flee to la and never look back, while also falling in love with cangel and thinking about how much those three would fit perfectly together, buffy and cordy as two sides of the same coin, just always out of step with the others parallel heroic journey, how much bangel would work so much more for me when it's damaged adults coming together and also raising their impossible blue eyed kids together also connors never kidnapped also also faith moves into the hyperion too and gunn and fred never break up the end okay i'll stop now)

the princess, the prince, and the mermaid ~ the little mermaid (i was infected by the novel mermaid: a twist on the classic tail (heh) in my youth- christopher, lenia, and margrethe had a fascinating relationship i fell in love with. and now!!!!!!!! watching older adaptations of tlm, seeing the interactions between the three of them always intrigue me so hard. pre-disney the princess is allowed to be sweet and kind to the mermaid, if somewhat patronizing to the mute young girl. and when the mermaid fades away, her body in foam and her soul off to heaven, she lays a kiss on the grieving princess's head AND I DIE)

elizabeth/neal/peter ~ white collar (IT WAS SUCH A FUN TRIO I STAND BY THIS CHOICE! also at the time it was extraordinarily refreshing of fandom to not immediately despise and vilify the woman standing between their slash ship. and i adored the canon and the fanon so tbh! this will always stick out as a classique ot3 to me!)

irma/marion/miranda ~ picnic at hanging rock (why aren't we frolicking in oz, wearing white gowns and eating picnic treats RIGHT NOW? anyway they're in love, they're so in love they fell into an alternate dimension)

ann/ben/leslie ~ parks and recreation (am I the only person who was tearing my hair out during ann's search for a sperm donor bc why did leslie never offer up ben's specimen!?!?! she is OBSESSED with ann and way too invasive and beyond controlling and I think way too much about that episode where ben and ann are fighting over the wafflemaker for one of leslie's insane random holidays, then end it off by coming together to make leslie STOP with the incessant celebrations and presents? anyway they should have all wound up together. and not just bc chris was terrible)

huoxin/jing/xiaowei ~ painted skin the resurrection (the lady demon, the princess, and the bodyguard. this trio was EVERYTHING. the demon fixated on the princess and her heart, the princess desperately in love with her bodyguard turned general but clinging to shame over her facial scars, the general who runs from his failure to protect her. ADD IN BODYSWAP SHENANIGANS AND I LOSE MY MIND EVERY TIME.)

ezra/jules/richie ~ imposters (possibly partially queerplatonic bc i'm not exactly sure where jules lies on ye olde kinsey scale, but even if it's platonic on her part i'm incredibly in love with this trio and i SO see it as a working throuple LEAVE ME ALONE)

elizabeth/olive/william ~ professor marston and the wonder women (whether you believe the historical accuracy of this movie or not, this throuple is fucking awesome and i adooooooore them)

gwen/mj/peter ~ marvel comics (i'm so sick of thinking about spider-man rn bc *waves hand at mcu* HOWEVER it would feel disingenous to leave this off my list. i love these three, i love them together so much.)

That night after the Winter Formal came to a close, Cordie and Zella headed back to Casa Fletcher for some slumbering.

For obvious reasons, Jordie wasn't permitted to go. Kea didn't allow her to go in depth to explain it to her friends, but 'I'm grounded indefinitely' made things pretty clear.

With their trio cut down to a duo, the two decided to watch some movies together.

Normally Jordie would be a pain talking over the whole movie with her asides, so Zella was glad to sink into it with Cordie who was apt to get just as absorbed in a good plot, but Cordie seemed distracted.

"I always wondered why she didn't just tell him how she felt before she went away on her trip. She could've saved herself from so much grief, don't you think?" Zella looked over at Cordie, but she was completely spaced.

"Cordie?"

"What?"

"I was just saying about Claudette. Did you hear me?"

"Oh. What was it you were saying about Claudette?"

"I was just saying—actually, never mind. It's not that important."

"Oh, I'm sorry Zella. Really I am. I guess, maybe I'm just tired?"

She wished that was really what it was, but the truth was there was only one movie playing on repeat in her head.

After Jai said what he said, the mood was never able to recover. Things were so awkward she could barely look him in the eye. Worse, he didn't acknowledge her lack of response. She was almost relieved Zella came to the formal after all, so she had the excuse to leave with her for their slumber party.

"I get that. If you're too tired we don't have to watch anything tonight. We can turn in early."

"I feel bad though. We were supposed to stay up all night watching romcoms."

"We can do that any old time. I don't mind."

"OK. Thanks for understanding, Z."

Zella was such a good friend. Here she was looking out for her, worrying about her being tired, meanwhile the whole reason Cordie wanted to have a slumber party was because she was worried about Zella.

She had to be a better friend than this. She would start tonight and turns things around.

Since it was just the two of them, Cordie told Zella not to bother with her sleeping bag and to just share the bed with her.

They both laid there in stark silence as Cordie wondered whether Zella would share what was bothering her on her own, or if she'd need prompting.

Zella could be shy sometimes, but she'd always been so open with her. It had always been that way since they met each other at Camp Longhorn 4 years ago. But lately she'd been skittish.

"Hey, Z?"

"What is it?"

"I was just wondering, could there be something that's bothering you?"

"I'm OK. It's like you said, we've all been busy. And….maybe I'm just tired right now, too."

"Yeah, but if there's something, you know you can talk to me, right? Whatever it is, I'll listen. If it's something you can't talk to me about, Jordie will listen too, or Izzy, or any of us."

"That's what friends are for. To help you through the tough stuff, whatever it is, even if you think it's dumb, I'll listen, and I'll be there for you. OK?"

"Yeah." Zella trailed off. In truth, she was holding things back, but if she told Cordie about them, it would only hurt her.

Not just that, it would hurt their friendship. What would she think if she came out and just said "Cordie, I have feelings for your boyfriend." She would hate her. Not to mention, she'd already decided to stop having those kind of feelings. Jai was into Cordie, so there was no point in liking him.

But that last part that Cordie said, about friends helping you through the tough stuff. It resonated with her. These feelings were driving a wedge between her and her friends, so maybe if she shared them to get them off her chest it could help draw them closer again.

Judgement (ATS 2.01)

Host: You know what I'm talking about: in this city, you better learn to get along -- 'cause L.A.'s got it all, the glamour and the grit, the big breaks and the heartaches, the sweet young lovers and the nasty ugly hairy fiends that suck out your brain through your face -it's all part of the big wacky variety show we call Los Angeles. You never know what's coming next. And let's admit it, folks - isn't that why we love it?

I get the feeling I'm missing something in my Angel analysis by never having lived in or visited L.A. It seems like a show informed by and designed around the city in a way that's just going right over my head.

Our trio has grown confident in our absence. They're like a well-oiled machine, intent on their mission and refusing to be distracted. They even have an organized white board to track the progress of cases. But then we learn the reason for this intensity: Angel has been thinking about making it to the finish line. He's ready to be human.

Very on brand that part of his consideration is that he'll soon need a workout regimen.

Angel: You got your steam, your sauna, fresh towel . . . where's the down side?

Cordelia: You shower with a lot of men.

Angel: I'll always be a loner.

We then check in on Lindsey, who is becoming somewhat of a Faith figure to Angel's Buffy: does he want to be him, kill him, or fuck him? He's becoming obsessed with Darla because of her connection to Angel as well. It's clear they plan to use her to get to Angel, but this seems like a very similar scenario to when they sent Faith: there's just too much history and variables here for them to be sure of the outcome.

I'm enjoying Wesley's methodical, practical approach to his job. He really treats it like a vocation he wants to be successful at. He's been working on creating contacts in the demon world for them. And while I appreciate the broadening of the Buffyverse as we learn not all vampires/demons are bad, it does take away some of Angel's tortured soul alure when we learn of people like the Host. If there are creatures like Angel out there, why the lonely, cursed existence? Why didn't he stumble upon this community years ago? The implication is that he's dark and tortured because it's his nature, not his curse.

We're introduced to Caritas and The Host, who attempts to warn Angel he might be headed for a fall and offers to give him a read. Angel declines. He goes to find his demon.

I didn't love the scene where Angel accidentally kills Jo's protector. I just felt it could have been executed better. It felt a little unbelievable that she didn't shout, "Hey! Don't kill him. He's protecting me!" during the whole scuffle. Alas, she did not, and Angel is wracked with guilt over killing an ally in the fight against evil. It turns out the trio's intense focus on knocking out their list of demons so they can reach the finish line is having some unpleasant consequences. They didn't stop to focus on Cordy's vision and what it meant...they just attacked.

I'm happy to see Gunn again, although I could use a little less of this "he's a black man from the streets" being his whole personality. Feels racist. He finally formally meets Cordelia and Wesley.

Angel: I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, that someday I might become human . . . that light was so bright, I thought I was already out.

Cordelia: Yeah, we all got a little cocky, didn't we? It's gonna be a long while till you work your way out. But I know you well enough to know you will. And I'll be with you till you do.

I've watched Angel through all of once before now...we don't get to see what this child grows up to become, do we? Kind of a shame. I'm intrigued.

Angel is forced to sing 'Mandy' so he can save Jo. He admits he finds it kind of pretty.

Cordelia: That man will do anything to save a life.

Angel finds Jo (with the help of The Host) and has a fight to the death before The Tribunal to save her life. Interesting we're not going with the "animals don't like vampires" tradition here and Angel does just fine on the horse. Jo now has protection until the child comes of age.

Angel decides no more keeping score. They're focusing on one job at a time.

Faith: The road to redemption's a rocky path.

We check in on Faith at the very end as Angel visits her in prison. It's cool to see he's continuing to mentor her, and it appears she gets tested pretty often there. She's learning some self-control. I wish she'd gotten more of a role and less of the occasional cameo.

Character Notes:

Cordelia Chase: Alright, I'm too lazy to check. Didn't she draw incredible sketches for the Scooby gang? Why is Angel drawing the demon she saw for her? She's been watching a Noir festival on Bravo.

so in case you forgot: buffy never came to sunnydale in season 1. the master took over sunnydale and made xander and willow his deranged vampire sidekicks. buffy fights the master and her, cordelia, angel, willow and xander all die. almost all these points are going off the branching timeline where giles didn’t destroy anya’s pendant and the wishverse kept going.

larry is a “white hat” working with giles, oz and nancy. he has dyed black hair. I think it’s safe to assume that larry is out in this universe, and apocalypse or no apocalypse I love the idea of these three being a found family friend group just like buffy and the scoobies. also love the idea that oz and larry were in love but that’s just because I am insane lmao. anyway larry is out as gay and friends with oz with surrogate father figure giles… yeah that just makes me happy. I would love to see his season 1-3 growth in coming out and becoming a better person / not a bully similar to cordy. and shittily dying his hair black.

were spike and dru there during the season 2 period? did the master kill them? did the white hats kill them? did they leave? WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM????

the mayor, adam, glory and the first would likely still happen on top of all the vampire apocalypse stuff. the trio could be dead or vampires and dark willow obviously would not be able to happen. does giles fight these threats, collecting various child fighters over the years?? no idea. do they succeed?? no idea.

dawn doesn’t exist because buffy is dead. I wonder who the key would have taken the form of, perhaps she would be faith’s sister…???

what’s the status of jenny calendar?? joyce?? tara?? amy?? no one knows!! I just hope they didn’t meet too grisly of ends. the idea of leather-clad apocalypse vampire versions of all these badass women intrigues me though…

did anya remain a demon?? destroying her necklace would reset the timeline back to normal, so I guess she must have done. my anyiles heart says giles thought “I could fix her” and fell in love with a vengeance demon who doomed reality but that might just be wishful thinking (no pun intended).

angel investigations simply doesn’t exist. angel and cordy are both dead.

connor would not exist because darla would not be brought back (I wonder if jasmine would find some other way to bring about her birth??)

lindsey would have both hands intact and he and lilah would likely stay at wolfram and hart, and neither would die unless they were caught in the crossfire of vampire apocalypse stuff.

gunn would stick with his crew in LA and would likely fight the master at one point, not to mention even more vampires than usual, and without superpowers would likely die eventually.

angel investigations would never run wolfram and hart, meaning illyria would have to find a different host body. if it was lindsey or lilah that would be awesome.

pylea would stay the same and suck forever because cordy would never go there.

lorne is flourishing and loving life running caritos. he’s probably better off for it tbh. the wishverse says gay rights!!!!

in terms of wesley, faith and doyle, I recommend this amazing fic. it really speaks for itself, it’s awesome!!

its unclear as to who would be called after buffy. is it a person to person thing or simply a timing thing?? would it be kendra, faith, or someone else entirely? as I said this is explored in the fic I linked, but still interesting to discuss.

season 7 would be very different. we don’t know what slayer is currently around and we don’t know if that would change the first’s plan or the ending with all the potentials becoming slayers. no idea. kennedy would not be important thank god.

How I feel about this character

i loveee herrrrr… i think she was the first kid unit i ever got. either her or asugi and i loved her so much she appeared on my screen and i was like :0 shes so pretty ��🥺🥺 unfortunately i have had very bad luck turning her into a good unit (the best ive ever gotten out of her is was either when i did sakura!caeldori or nyx!caeldori and made her a dark flier… her dad hampers her strength stat bad and i just never seem to pick the right phys mom) but i make her work the best i can.

asugi and its non negotiable i have paired them in every run and i have absolutely zero plans on changing this. they have been with me since my first run and i will never change this. they mean everything to me

i really like the trio of her, asugi, and shiro :) i think thats a fun group. in general her and shiro are pretty nice. im not a fan of selena/subaki so i dont really like selena!caeldori but her, soleil, and ophelia are def all besties. like sorry but like. you know……

Unpopular opinion on them

i do not think red hair is her best hair color. i know shes a cordy expy but shes just MISSING something to pull off red the same way cordelia does. maybe i just dont like the shades of red she gets… hinoka red is an eyesore even on her. i understand that selena gives her her exact canon color but its just… like its not bad? its fine! its just… well anyways so i like hana brown and niles white and oboro blue and ryoma brown and nyx purple :)

One thing I wish had happened

i just wish she wasn’t tied to cordelia so much. same for the other expies but i think the fact that they have to hammer in “ohh look she has the same trait as your favorite from the last game!” really tramples on what couldve otherwise been a really great and beloved character. and to me, caeldori gets it the worst of the expies as she doesnt really have that extra thing setting herself apart from cordelia (asugi having his ninja heritage and rhajat focusing more on helping magic rather than dark magic). she gets that moment with selena if shes her mom but thats way more of a selena development thing than caeldori. shes kind of just… an optional plot device for severa which. like. that sucks actually

I like to think that Cordelius' lungs and voice have been heavily affected by the toxic fumes in the enchanted forest. He ended up developing asthma because of it, so he has his inhaler on him at all time. He's also allowed to step out of a brawl for a few seconds if he ends up getting a little too wheezy.

Cordelius really doesn't like eye contact or people staring at him in general. It makes him really uncomfortable.

This mushroom is GAY and you cannot convince me otherwise!!!

Cordy knows almost anything about fungi! He'll use any excuse to tell a mushroom fact or two if he can.

He's colorblind! Specifically, he has tritanopia (basically makes you see things in blue and red). He... kind of refuses to acknowledge that he does though. He'll constantly try to guess a color and will insist that he is right even if he's really wrong lol

Motherfucker has BAD posture. Stand up straight you dummy!!! (I say as I’m hunched over typing this…)

He hangs out with the Biology trio a lot! Cordy helps them take care of all of the plants in the Biodome and they like to talk about their day at the same time. It’s really relaxing for him :]

I think… that Cordelius hates to be alone. It gives him major anxiety when he’s left alone for a long time.

Cordy likes physical touch! It’s definitely his love language. Also he’s touched starved lmao

Whether it’s platonically or romantically, I absolutely love the idea of Cordelius and Ash being very close to each other. Idk, something about these two just makes me smile. I can definitely see them talking and doing their jobs at the same time. They would enjoy each other’s company very much imo (also I call the ship Toxic Waste) :]
