Ah, been a while since people haven't requested me for so long in the submissions... I managed to get my motivation up do finish my homework in time so why not i take a break to write this down for ya :3

Hello! Hope you're having a great day/night! I absolutely adore your art, you are one of my favourite artists. I love the way you shade and do backrounds. Also everytime I get into a new show I immediately see your art for it??
I was wondering if you had any advice on drawing more realistically (backrounds, anatomy etc) but still keeping a style?

I have a pretty good understanding of facial structures, because before I got into drawing more semi-realisticly, I heavily focused on realistic portraits. Here are some example, these are from around 2019!
(yes, I was really into danmei and kpop back then, haha)
I just always loved drawing/painting faces and it was all I did. But at some point I realized that I wanted to do more than that because just portraits felt super restricting. So it took me around 2-3 years to somewhat find my style. Thought it would be fun to show a little timeline! Advice will follow afterwards :)
2020
I began working on my OCs in 2020 and since I didn't have an exact reference to work off of, I struggled a lot. My art from this year is super wonky.
2021
Still wonky, but the Lokius obsession was the jumpstart into finding my style! My work from this year is all over the place haha, I was experimenting a lot.
2022
This first ofmd piece is pretty much the first drawing where you can see where my style is gonna go, which I think is pretty cool! This is the year I made the biggest progress cos I was drawing SO much. These two pieces are only six months apart. The one on the right was the first time I gave drawing a background a proper go, too! It was a good year.
2023
And this is where I am now! I'm still constantly learning and improving, but I'd say I have a style you can recognize now!
Now here comes some actual advice, haha:
What I highly recommend you to do is to study your favorite artists as much as you can! I have like 5 A4 sketchbooks all from 2020 that I filled with sooooo many studies, where basically all I did was look at artists I like and copy how they draw stuff, to try and figure out how to stylize certain things. Some of my favorite artists are Ami Thompson, Velinxi and TB Choi. But I also liked to just scroll through pinterest and study all the art I came across that I liked! For example, if I saw a really great drawing of a pair of pants I would copy it many times in my sketchbook and try to learn how they stylized the folds. Doing this for a prolongued period of time will naturally improve your own work! It'll be difficult at first, but you gotta push through, it's gonna be worth it!
I also highly recommend studying unique faces to try and avoid the same-face syndrome. Find some cool looking people and try to draw them as simple as you can! Maybe even draw a little timeline where you first draw them as cartoon-y as you can, and keep going until you end up with a more detailed, realistic drawing. Maybe in the middle of it you find a step that feels the most fun to you, so you can try to build on that! It's a great way to figure out what kind of style might be the best for you.

One REALLY important part of learning how to draw all kinds of things is to understand forms and shapes and how to manipulate them. I have so many pages in my sketchbook filled with just shapes that I drew from all kinds of angles without any references.

Learning how to do this is so crucial! Young artists often think they first have to learn all kinds of detailed anatomy before doing anything else, but all that's gonna do is make you tired and hate drawing. Shapes are where it's at! Once you understand how shapes work and which ones to use for certain parts of bodies or objects, drawing is gonna get so much easier! Once you understand them, you can get into details such as muscles and bones!
And honestly the most important point is to just absolutely love what you're doing! I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for the fact that I get extreme hyperfixations on certain media that turn me into some kind of beast where I can suddenly draw 10 detailed illustrations a week, haha. Just be passionate about what you do, find something you REALLY love and go crazy!

I've had no professional art training, I seriously don't know what I'm doing and struggle making tutorials. But will try here!!
For me the colour work is really situational on the drawing! I find myself experimentally attempting to weaponize colour theory and there's a lot of instinct involved that I can't figure out how to verbalise yet. Here's an example of some thought process I have:

My main advice is to play with sliders a lot and really experiment (that's what I do for every drawing)!
To get the pink glow around your lineart, copy your lineart layer, fill the copy in with a pink of your choice (sometimes I do a gradient), blur the layer (experiment with how much blur you'd like), put it directly below the lineart layer, and set the layer to multiply (or any mode you think looks pretty)!


You may want to adjust your piece's brightness/colours after applying it and sharpen the image after exporting.
A lot of colour gradients are involved and on their own they can eventually compromise the gritty/punchy style, especially the ones that are between extreme and subtle. A good way to combat this is with screentones/haftones!! You can use them to diversify colours and imply shading/texture.

I recommend going nuts and having a lot of fun with it to find what works for you!
I often add a lot of small lens flares as they satisfyingly cut through the piece, imply flash photography (which goes well with the strong black shading), add visual noise to areas you don't want to be your main point of focus, are a great way to show speculars, and idk man sparkles are just pretty haha.

Go nuts with them and have fun!! When you get them to look good, think to yourself why that is.
I made a tutorial ~1 year ago on how I shade with black. This simple trick will really help it look good, 3D and rendered - it just requires a lot of knowledge about shadows to start with. I have a lot of experience rendering "normally" which helped me learn how to use black in an experimental way.
Minor correction that the shadows labelled "ambient occlusion" in the tutorial are actually just normal shadows, ambient occlusion is total lack of light.

1] You strike me as being very comfortable and confident in your artstyle, which is inspiring me to try and achieve such skill myself someday. How long would you say did it take for you to reach this point? [or simply put, how long have you been making art]

[the Carnageman Ike ones I am especially partial to] Do you think your characters and stories will ever reach the point of being refined into a series/comic/show or something of the sort that we can read/watch in a completed sense? 1. Thank you so much! I think it was after figuring out human anatomy. I used to think I could draw people pretty ok, because I could do busts, and portraits, and draw characters, and I studied street fighter 3 sprites (which, in my defense, sf3 sprites are very helpful)

Check out those simplified muscle groups!
I eventually took a course with a really simple workload looking back (but still very hard because of my awesome teacher) but BASICALLY the entire class was configured around doing 1 minute figure drawings…. Focusing only on proper dimensions (making sure the arms didnt look too long, the ribcage was the right size, etc)
I had never spent less than 20 minutes on an observational drawing before. So it was really crazy.
We basically spent ten weeks drawing chunky stick figures really fast, haha. But after, I found I could draw any subject, doing any pose, pretty fast. And NO erasing! Pen only!
I think that was when I got confident in art. If anyone reading this feels THEY are not confident in art- you should totally spend more time people watching in a park with a sketchbook, drawing them really fast before they disappear, or downloading packs off trueref.io and trying to draw 30, 40 poses from some of the packs. Its really cheap for a membership and they actually have different body types. I think after I had proper posing behind me… it was easy to feel confident in what I do, because posing was a problem in every piece by default. Now im like “this face looks weird.” Or “styling this is hard.”
But I never think “I cant draw a backflip!” And that is huge for my confidence.
2: You are in such luck. For years I have been building off of my brand and doing little projects… I did not want to bite off a huge project and abandon it. It was more fun to make hypotheticals, designing casts and settings and saying “what if.” After all, when I moved to LA, I didnt have time for anything but rent.
But now, over the next year, im prepping a kickstarter for Carnageman:Ike Chapter 1. Im going to animate a big trailer for it too. I just havent posted anything about it because frankly, I have lots of behind the scenes stuff to put in order before I start posting. I am doing a lot of visdev on how I want it all to look. And if I post too early, my stupid animal brain might feel accomplished- and not want to work as hard. Sometimes when I post wips, this happens. I go “wow. That feels great. I am done now. Onto the next thing.” Stupid animal brain.
But in the meantime… I also want to make my hiker comic!!! All I do in my spare time is camp and hike and I want to make my little comic about what I love! I feel like this project will become a vacation for me when I am working on Ike… like how Spielberg would work on 2 movies at once and treat one as a vacation from the other 😭

Hello again!
Well, now I'm posting these out of order lol...But here is my belated entry for the prompt Protect!
As soon as I read the prompt, I was struck by the image of Ingo bravely protecting the main character. (I, too, am a fan of the "Duncle Ingo" concept haha).
I'm not exactly sure of the story here (ambiguity is fun!), but it looks like Akari had a bad run-in with a Zoroark. She's lucky Ingo found her! (Don't worry! They'll be okay!).

I originally wanted a shadow of the threatening Pokemon looming onto the rocks behind them, but I wasn't able to figure out how to do that. So, I decided to try to make some fun ghost flames instead and threw in the Zoroark claws. But now I think the paws look kind of silly. (They kind of look like bear paws...). Oh well.
I'd like to color this one day! I definitely want the ghost flames and Ingo's eyes to pop! I imagine his eyes shine in a very cool manner in dramatic moments.
This is the first finished Hisui Ingo drawing I've made so far. Drawing both older and young ingo has made me appreciate their designs more -- it's amazing how a few tweaks in style can make a fella with a simple design look a bit older!

It's been about a year since you met Donnie. And it was not in some great heroic way. No, you two stumbled upon each other on a rooftop. Bonding over your love for technology and the internet. You still don’t know if fate was genuinely toying with you that day.. but you won’t complain, you wouldn’t have had meeting Donnie or the friendship you both had any other way.
Yet, this needed to be perfect.
Donnie met you on a rooftop just a year ago. He’d been observing you, humans were still rather strange to him. But he had “accidentally” made his presence known and well that was that. Bonding over technology and the internet with the human he did know he’d grow to love.
Now with the chance to confess, he needed it to be perfect.
So what’s more perfect than confessing on the same rooftop they met at. Picnic style, red and white blanket and everything: a basket, food, utensils, etc. A thing you both hadn’t known was you both had been coming there over the week cleaning up the rooftop. No wonder it was so clean so soon!
Now you're pacing the rooftop, he should be here ten soon. And he might run a bit late, he could get caught up in something or he might have trouble finding his way here. He wouldn’t just not come, you know that.
You just sat and checked the time, waiting. Lost in thoughts till a thump from behind spooked you. Right on time, a big old haha at your brain trying to make you overthink this.
A small smile sent his way inviting him over, and a smile from him right back accepting it. Now you both sat together, in silence but a comfortable one.
“It’s a lovely day,” he started.
“It is.. just like you.” You whispered, a silence followed, “as a friend! You're a very lovely friend.” You add after a few seconds. Nice save me haha..ha. He looked at you curiously, like you’d become his next big tech to figure out age understand—not that you weren’t already—your eyes meet his.
“You're lovely too.” Both smiling, that turned into flushed faces who looked back in front of them at the sky.
“You-”
“I-”
A pause
“I think you should go first-”
“You should go first-”
Another pause but you speak first, “you hungry?” Pulling out food and plates, and utensils to use. You served yourself and fell into simple conversations. Laughing and talking about whatever came to mind. And as the sun began to set you two grew closer, the chilled wind sending you closer to your friend. That comfortable silence returned as four eyes gazed into the sunset. Yet you looked up, seeing Donatello looking right at you. His face illuminated by the sun’s light and his soft smile made you melt.
“Hey” a soft whisper.
“Hey” a reply that grew to a smile.
“I want to talk to you about something.. and it’s nothing bad! I just..” you pulled away a bit getting a better look at him, he looked nervous and flustered.
“Listen I like you, like really like you. You’re smart and kind and you always make me smile. Your presence practically lights up the room. I enjoy talking to you and debating on society's new technological developments. But, i’d understand if you rejected me because I am a mutant turtle-“
Before he could continue you pulled his head down with an easy tug to the top of his plastron and your lips connected. As you pull back he’s looking at you with a doopy smile and an even more flustered face. You laugh and smile before. A churring sound coming from him.
“I like you too, and I don’t care that you're a giant mutant turtle! It’s cool that you are! Who can go around saying that their partner is a giant turtle who fights crime!”You lean into him as you talk. Hand being thrown out in front of you to emphasize your point. Donnie couldn’t object to that.

Yk what no one asked for? My art process.
At least when it comes to drawing transformers... I don't put a lot of my other stuff up here haha. This guide probably won’t help with drawing TFP stuff tho. I like sticking to my cubes.
Who knows. Maybe this can help someone. Or provide amusement cause I have no idea what I'm doing. Just thought l'd share some stuff lol. And an unpopular art opinion.
So yeah, my secrets. Which like.... my art isn’t incredibly impressive or anything but... you get the point.
If you ever really wanted to try out whatever my style is called, here’s your guide. Along with a tutorial on how I draw Sunstreaker, but it’s like 5 steps lol.

This is the part where I share my tips and tricks yippee! Small disclaimer, I just kinda do half of this stuff as a go. There is no real order to this. I’m basically just explaining how my style works (despite how much my style varies tbh)
There’s a general build for the body that I’m pretty sure most people have figured out. The head, chest, torso, and weird hip thingy. Then the legs are broken into two main segments, the arms are broken into three, shoulder, upper arm, lower arm.
Here we go, unpopular art opinion rant.

When I make my base I usually work from the head down. Don’t be afraid to use the lasso tool to readjust the sizes of different components. If the head you started with has the right angle but is too small, lasso it and make it bigger. If ur doing traditional, sorry, you’re just gonna have to redraw it.

I’ll usually try and clean up overlapping lines, but I wanted yall to see the shapes before I did that.
Then we can start adding details. I look at other artist’s designs and the source material and pick out reoccurring traits that will help make the character easily identifiable.
I tend to add the most detail to the head simply because that’s what is commonly used to identify characters. Usually when designing my version of a character I allow myself to kinda make up details for this part.
But do feel free to add your own details to make sure people can tell it’s “your” design!

These are still very simple shapes and not detailed whatsoever. We are keeping it basic on purpose.
Very loose shapes, extremely vague idea. Just putting down the most identifiable parts that are important in building it, if that makes sense. I put down the bare minimum for this.
You really don't want to over complicate things. It makes it difficult for the viewer to figure out what's going on. A crowded design is distracting and unappealing. The simpler the better.

So now we have our sketch layer done. Because I'm impatient, it's line art time baby!
I end up just kind of feeling it out with line art. There will be some changes between the sketch and the line art. I’ll also use line weight to just general shading stuff sometimes. In this one it’s not very consistent but I was kinda losing motivation cause… adhd my beloved.
This is pretty self explanatory. Use your sketch to outline what you want, adding details as you go. I'll still leave my lines pretty loose and messy for most of these, just because it adds a bit more... character? Makes it feel more authentic? But feel free to clean it up as much as your little heart desires.
Smth im really passionate about is not overcomplicating the designs and crowding it. I know I already mentioned it once but… yeah.
While adding a bunch of detail can be cool, if not executed right, it can become overwhelming and difficult to understand visually. Keep it simple, you don't need to add every crease or seam. Just the important ones that can help a character stand out or fill in an awkward large space.


Usually after that l'll just put flat color down. Nothing fancy. I like to just do greyscale but you can go crazy. I'm not stopping you.
But adding a flat color under your line art helps pull together the sketch. It makes it easier for people to understand what is and isn't a character and makes it simpler to understand the character’s shape.
If I have several characters in one picture l'll usually make them separate colors to help make sure you can easily identify them as different people. I usually try to keep in mind the characters actual color when doing this. People with darker colors get a darker gray.
I’ll also try and give a different color to an object they are interacting with so it doesn’t get confused with the character themselves.
The entire reason I gave Sunstreaker a gun was to show this. I hate drawing guns.
These are also rarely perfect. As long as it's not extremely obvious that you're out of the lines, no one will notice. At least that’s been my experience.
I usually do this on separate layers

There's a lot of personalization when it comes to drawing and I don't know if I explained all of this very well. Ironically I don't really think much about how I'm doing it, I just... do it.
If you need any further explaining, I'll try my best to help. And if you made it this far ive got mad respect for you. I’m pretty sure I’m just rambling for half of this lol.

5 ﹒ Mizuki can’t help but grin as she holds up a gorgeous, puffy pink dress towards K. Helplessly accepting it, Kanade let out a light, breathy sigh in defeat.

1 ﹒ Practice was meant to go as normal, play the roles, review the lines, ask questions, riddle everyone’s brains over said questions trying to figure out the answers, give up, continue playing the roles, and then finish up for the day! It was far from such.
2 ﹒ Whether it began with THE Tsukasa Tenma forgetting his lines and being brought to the verge of tears from it, Nene’s phone dying whilst she was seeking a break behind stage, Emu’s sadder thoughts being brought into question, or Rui receiving strange looks on his way to practice, it simply wasn’t a good day for anyone!
3 ﹒ Frustrated with these turn of events, Tsukasa initiated a plan! Plan-Regressing-Solves-All! How exactly he would manage to coerce 3 people into little space whilst still upset himself..? Hmm, a true dilemma! But nothing a star can’t fix!
4 ﹒ It began with Emu, a simple tap on the shoulder, a long stare whilst she babbled on with a smile on her face, then, he cleared his throat. The question was simple, and yet he couldn’t help the flush on his cheeks. In his mind, “would you like to play with me?!” Wouldn’t cut it! However..
5 ﹒ With a big, squeaky laugh, and her eyes shut tight, a smile squeezing up her face, she shook him around, agreeing with a big nod and exclamation of how “this would be so fun!”
6 ﹒ A success! And so, the two march onward, in search of an abnormally tall purple haired little, and a rather tiny grey haired girl! In their minds, Rui and Nene needed saving! Trapped within the tower! It was Emu and Tsukasa’s great duty to save them from this terror!
7 ﹒ Rui wasn’t that hard to find! To ask, however… ahhh. Tsukasa shakes his head, and pulls at his sleeve gently, Emu jumping in for a big big hug, nearly knocking the boy over! “Play with us, Rui! Play with us!!” Emu nearly screamed, giggling and kicking her feet. Tsukasa, in return, nodded. Rui didn’t have the heart to deny…
8 ﹒ Rui took much longer to drop than Emu, Tsukasa noted. That wouldn’t be much of an issue, though! Besides, they had a princess to save!
9 ﹒ Nene, sat within a corner behind the stage, curled within herself, appeared to be sniffling. The three exchanged saddened looks at this, a frown melting onto Emu’s face as she broke out into a wail, running (quicker than the other two could, Tsukasa noticed) towards the girl, babbling out questions of “are you okay?” At her.
10 ﹒ However, none of her words seemed coherent, so, Rui stepped ahead, asking the question for her (and the rest of them!) she stared back at him with teary eyes and explained. She had overheard them! And she believed she wasn’t invited to play!
11 ﹒ This won’t do, not one bit! And so, Tsukasa holds out a hand to her, and declares that the world must witness the prettiest princes and princesses at once!
12 ﹒ The day very quickly comes to a close with giggles and smiles, much different than the beginning of this story!

1 ﹒ Akito isn’t a fan of studying, this fact can be stated by anyone and everyone he’s ever spoken to. What he was a fan of, however, was making his partner proud.
2 ﹒ So, when his teacher suggested after school lessons to kick his grade up a notch, he immediately sought out Toya, tail in between his legs as he began explaining his situation. Perhaps, a bit of shame was laced behind his words, but, he covered it up easily with a quick mention of Vivid BAD SQUAD, and how he was confident he wouldn’t have to miss any practices if he received a bit of help.
3 ﹒ His brain felt fuzzy, in a way, as he began talking, it very quickly trailed off into silence and babbles of words that didn’t seem to make sense, not that he realized. Toya placed a hand onto his shoulder, and that jolted him out of his little trance, a muttered sorry coming his way.
4 ﹒ Across the hall, Mizuki spotted Akito, a mischevious look playing onto her face as she crept up behind him. Toya eyed her, questioning what exactly she was planning on— ah..
5 ﹒ Instead of a scream, or a yell, a bark flew her way, furrowing his eyebrows at her angrily. And yet, those words he had on his tongue to appear as rude as always disappeared. He huffed, defeated, and crossed his arms over his chest instead.
6 ﹒ Whatever those two were talking about now didn’t matter to him, those looks he was being given, more. Had he seriously just barked at Mizuki Akiyama? What in Miku’s name was wrong with him, seriously..
7 ﹒ It was no surprise to him that when he turned his ear away from their conversation, Mizuki had somehow found a way to join in on the studying. It wasn’t quite as if he could object to it now, anyway, they were well on their way to the spare classroom kept on the side of their school.
8 ﹒ The studying began as boring as always, and it didn’t seem to become any less banal than ever as time progressed, and that.. stupid fuzzy feeling in his brain wouldn’t knock it off! It was enough to leave him frustrated, staring bullets at his paper.
9 ﹒ After a bit of time, he felt different, less bored, yet still angered, and so, he growled.
10 ﹒ Snarled and all, he rest his head against one of his hands propped up on the desk, fingers pulling at little hairs in his eyes. Toya gave him a strange look, as if he had just done something completely abnormal.
11 ﹒ It couldn’t be more abnormal than those pants he was wearing.. and..
12 ﹒ As much as he wanted to tell him to quit looking at him, before he had the chance, Toya’s voice sounded out, gentler than usual. His eyes softened, whether he’d admit to that or not, it was the truth. His shoulders became less stiff and his mouth was left slightly agape.
13 ﹒ It only took him a mere 5 seconds to remember Mizuki was in the room, and so, he slumped against the desk. A light sound from in front of him was quick to appear, however, a soft, purr of a meow.
14 ﹒ It was slightly slurred, and yet, Akito raised his head up and off of his desk to stare back at her. Meow..? Seriously, what the bark was this..

1 ﹒ Everyday was a fight, whether Ena would admit that or not. Every waking moment was filled with some new thing for her father to scream at her over.
2 ﹒ And so, when she sought comfort tucked within her room with a pencil and paper — a gentle melody in the back she was originally humming to — and the art began looking wonky and irregular, she huffed. It didn’t take much longer for another mistake to lead to her crumpling up the paper into her hand and letting out an angry scream at the world.
3 ﹒ One pencil was snapped, and the pillows on her bed were now on the floor as she cried herself into a meltdown. One hand searching for her phone as the other found its way to her lips, sucking on her thumb.
4 ﹒ Kanade was the first to join, and the first to hear her sobs of agony at every pencil and paper and father figure to have ever existed, then came Mafuyu, and lastly, Mizuki.
5 ﹒ “Enanan..? What’s the matter?” She didn’t have an answer! Everything was the matter! Everything was wrong! Every piece of art! The Mona Lisa could burn for all she cared! She just..
6 ﹒ She just wanted her caregivers! Was that so much to ask for..?! Her sobs and screams into her pillow started to become light sniffles as N25 worked their magic, letting her breathe without criticism.
7 ﹒ She fell asleep nearly instantly, tears staining her face for the night.
8 ﹒ And when she woke up, everyone was still on call with her, asleep or not, they were there. Along with a weird note right by her door with a pacifier attached to it. The note was sweeter than she’d like to admit.

HELLO HELLO! This was a grand post to celebrate the new year! Thank you sososoooo much to everyone I’ve became friends with in the past few months, and for all of the support I receive day after day. I love you all sosososooooomuch it’s unbelievable!
I worked on this for 3 hours straight ahshjahsj… with the exception of changing music, texting my friends with pleas of prayers for this, and editing the cards obvi!

i know you have probably been asked this so many times — but what brushes do you typically use? any helpful videos i can reference to get portraits and overall realism sketching down, maybe ones that you used starting out? or just.. tips overall?
artists like you and m0cktails really inspire me to try and pursue a different route with my art, one that was totally unexpected but pleasantly rewarding when i tried it out!!! you have a great eye for features and overall composition of a piece, i started being a fan due to your ghostsoap art but i honestly think ive started to like seeing your OCs too haha
please don’t feel pressured to answer i know i kind of asked a lot!!
Hey there! I've briefly reviewed some of the brushes I use in some posts here and here! For the most part, I stick to one standard brush, as well as the airbrush and some other 'effect' brushes as I need them. I'm a photoshop devotee, unfortunately 😔, so a lot of my process is futzing around with their admittedly stellar editing tools
Truthfully, I don't have any concrete tips or videos for this sort of thing. I started out as a pencil artist, doing more and more realistic portraits the better I got, and then eventually turned to digital art (a bit reluctantly) So a lot of that was just self-taught; finding my own way how to implement certain techniques, and amassing a foundation that would allow me to draw all the stuff in my brain, lol
As for advice--I'd say to learn how to evolve out of your comfort zone. It's good to know what type of style or subject matter you feel you're best at--this is a natural inclination most artists have, and it informs the pieces your mind wants to create. But try pushing the limits of what you think might be 'too tedious' or 'too advanced'. More often than not, the thing holding your art back is that gut instinct of 'I can't do this, so why bother trying'. I used to feel this way about hands (enemy of the state, confirmed) And yeah, the easy cop-out is to just shove them all in pockets or behind backs etc. But in learning how to overcome that obvious challenge, I grew to really appreciate the way a hand can shape a composition. In fact, I have to hand it to--💥 ✋
Anyway! My next bit of 'advice' would be to go absolutely bonkers nuts with references. Don't listen to any fraud or fool who says using references is cheating !!!!! They lie!!!!! I swear, my art only looks the way it does because I am a reference hound who spends hours and hours on google/pinterest/stock sites for the perfect angle of the perfect pose, just so I can relate it to the image I have in my head.
For realism--look at real stuff! This sounds dumb, but it helps. Start paying closer attention to people around you; their faces, the way the light accents certain things, unique features, etc. I'd suggest figure studies if that's something you're into (I don't do studies, personally, because I just jump into massive pieces and can't do anything simple 😅 welp) but it does help immensely to study humans in real life and try to translate that onto the page
So yeah. Tbh, the best method for improving art is to simply DO IT. And the fact that you're seeking out further advice and tips means that you have some motivation--so use it! Hope this helps <3

Hey! I hope you don't mind me dropping in out of the blue, but I've been checking in since I was excited to see what you had in store for MAS! I'll be to the point before I lose my train of thought if that's alright:
I understand you wanna deliver the best and the most for your players, but speaking from experience and (I hope it's okay to say this unwarranted) but if it feels like 30 CGs for one route with each CG only appearing a few seconds max would deter your progress, I would personally either write around them to incorporate less CGs but deliver the same impact, or draw them in a way that can convey the feelings I intended in fewer CGs.
Since the Moondrop route already has 30 planned CGs, I'd imagine you wanna keep that consistent for the other routes. That would mean 60 more CGs combined for the Sundrop and poly route (??) But that is me broadly assuming! For all I know you have your own tricks planned, maybe with multiple CGs having slight changes or the other routes having a different amount of CGs, etc.
I know I'm coming at you out of nowhere about this, that's not my intent!! And I have genuine confidence that you can deal with the workload, especially considering the progress you've made since Shadowdrop. It's just something that worries me since you're going for a detailed art style compared to some VNs who DO have 100+ CGs but work with a simple artstyle, and can bust out a couple CGs a day and still be consistent with quality because of the visual style.
I guess my TLDR is (again, unwarranted so you can choose to brush this aside!!) if it feels like you have to sacrifice a few things before they're ready, it's okay to prioritize quality over quantity! I know I've personally cut out some content for my own projects, but at the same time, it makes it so that anything that stays in your project has more significance if that makes sense.
I'd feel remiss if I'm just giving you unsolicited advice, but it's genuinely amazing how much progress you've made with the game. I had my own thoughts about it when I played the update a while ago, but I'll leave that to another time haha! And please, if you can, you don't have to rush out content! We're artists and writers and people who wanna create first and foremost, so don't turn yourself into a content machine if you can help it! The people who stick around to wait for you to finish are the ones you wanna do your best for ❤️

Wow, honestly gonna sound like a fanboy here but I am kind of freaking out that one of my favorite game devs care so much to send me this! Like it seriously means a lot, you have no idea. Thank you so so much for being so supportive, it means the world!
Now, about the topic of what you said exactly. Don’t worry, I don’t consider this unsolicited or unwelcome, I am really glad you pointed this out at all because honestly, i was feeling super guilty over not being able to make all of the CGs. I always want to try and be above the burnout, because my main hobby is drawing. Like what else am I doing, right? But actually looking over my plan and realizing how much art I would need to make, in comparison to what’s planned for the Sundew route? No joke, Day 3’s Sundew route would have less than half of the CGs I’ve planned out for the Moondrop route! Less than half! What am I thinking???
What I was thinking was a piece of advice someone gave me. I showed my writing to a friend of mine, and they said I should switch out all of the dialogue with detailed descriptions and just use art for it. Visual novel means visuals, and I could actually show the audience instead of writing it down. And I thought that was great advice and rewrote my script around it. Until i realized it’d involve making over 100 pieces of art for one Day, cut out a lot of content and still had too much to get done in a reasonable amount of time.
I figured to let the art speak for itself and not assume my audience is dumb enough to not get the context clues from seeing what’s happening. However, they can also do that with writing, and it’s way less stress inducing than making way too much art! Which is why I’m taking your advice of writing around the lack of CGs. I’m okay with people inferring what’s happening instead of forcing myself to make a shit ton of art every day. Like no joke, I’ve worked on the CGs I’ve planned for 2 weeks straight, and I BARELY made a dent in my plans! Sometimes you just gotta kill your darlings, unfortunately.
And I am unfortunately not above the burnout. I can feel myself getting tired with MAS because I’m looking into 3D game making and that seems like a fun challenge. However, I want to stress that I am not quitting MAS. I have a really bad habit of getting into projects and quitting them when I find something new to do, and I’m not going to do it here. I know the reason I’m so tired is because I’ve been trying to make over 30 Cgs for a route when I know the opposing route has like, 5 max in the same update. So in order to make things more manageable and honestly bearable, a lot of CGs will be cut. I made a promise to myself that I can work on 3D games as much as I want, but only after I finish MAS. And I’ll keep that promise!
I do indeed have big plans, and maybe they’re a bit too big. Like “possibly no public updates until the end of the year” big. But! I’m doing it, no matter what. And it’s going to be awesome, CGs or not! And I know (or very strongly hope) you guys are going to love it!

📝and 😈 for the ask game! would love to hear how ur process goes ^^
Hiiii kawkaw! 🥰🌼 [Ask game]
📝 What does your note-taking or sketching or brainstorming process look like? Are you more organized or chaotic about it?
Drawing: first i decide on a style and format (so far i have a limited number of options 😅 some ideas come in the form of a painting, some are comics, and others are simple illustrations). Then i sketch out the idea and decide on the colors. I use a lot of references and take photos of myself if i can't find a particular angle. Sometimes an idea grows from a random ref photo, and my inner voice whispers "let's make this obkk 👀" haha. I'm still learning digital art techniques that's why my process is very basic. One thing i like to do though is to use a red-orange pencil brush for undersketches (i feel less tempted to keep cleaning the sketch lines instead of painting/doing lineart over them).
Writing: this one is tricky bc unlike digital art, there are no standard tutorials on creative writing. I've read a bunch of articles and posts with recommendations, sure, but all the guidelines are too general, which is probably the way it should be to prevent the beginners from reproducing the same templates. I remember one fun tip i picked up from a writing class though: highlight (in different colors) the parts that correspond to all possible senses of perception—sound, smell, temperature, etc. I do this occasionally to put myself in the character's skin and remember that information travels through the setting too :D For my short stories i begin with a couple of key ideas that trigger an emotional response (it could be a cool line, a detail in the bg, a symbolic gesture, anything). As i try to arrange them together, the underlying message of the story appears, and i can start writing the scenes to serve it. Then i take a break and edit the text (all of that in linguistic pain and suffering 🙃)
Short texts don't require much planning, but long ones do, especially if you have a co-writer 🤭 But I think it's too early to analyze that experience yet (i hope this ambitious WIP sees the light of day someday 💛)
😈 How do you beat the urge to procrastinate? What's your worst time-sink?
Surprisingly, I never procrastinate drawing, but i always procrastinate writing (i guess it's just more mentally taxing to me). I write SUPER SLOWLY despite having been dealing with texts my whole life, at work and leisure (even this post! I've started it like an hour and a half ago 😆) So over years, I've figured out some no-no's for me:
no open messengers;
no snacks (i won't write a word unless i finish the food);
no cuticles and neatly trimmed nails (bc skin picking kicks in instantly);
easy access to all research tools and dictionaries (i never write in my native language, so it's a constant idiomatic double check);
writing in public helps bc i feel pressured to actually type at least smth instead of staring at that one sentence for hours haha, but my pc is more convenient than a tablet, so it's optional.

Let's start with Jelly
Fish [OC]
((this is still in progress and development but)) Fish is my medic OC. He's like a brother figure to Jelly, had babysat her during childhood until teenage years. Their bond deepened when they reunited at the base where Fish worked, often met up and hang out in his office yapping about her latest hyperfixations, ships and anime.
Simon Ghost Riley
Jelly first got to know Ghost by inspecting his weapons. She was impressed by how perfectly maintained they were so she didn't think too much of his reputations and rumours. But the moment she met him she thought he was here to take her out LOL xD she can’t believe they ended up together to this day.
Eira Raven Liu [OC]
Raven saved Jelly's life without Jelly's knowledge (for reasons yet to be discussed), pulled the right strings here and there, vouched for her skills and landed her a spot as a weapon specialist + tech unit for the team. Jelly sort of sees Raven like her senior (calling her "senpai") and elder sister kind of vibe.
Kate Laswell
is terrified but thankful for her because of the whole "don't fk with me" vibe Kate has, but eventually realized how supportive she could be and got along well. Kate’s even invited her over for dinner a few times with her wife, which still blows Jelly’s mind :3
John Price
Jelly admires Price for being, well—John motherflipping Price. But let’s be real what she really can’t get over is him and Raven as a couple LMAO she’s their #1 fangirl and is not subtle about it, wrote a few fanfictions inspired by their dynamic too HAHA
Kyle Gaz Garrick
Partner for field setups and troubleshooting, they're pretty chill cause of how Gaz is able to share jokes with her.
John Soap Mactavish
Wondered if Ghost and him are-was a thing, is not bothered by it if they were (it's not like she already have a few google doc opened writing about two characters inspired by Ghost and Soap-)
Soap calls her Jellybean sometimes, I think they're chill too.
Alejandro Vargas
Flustered around Alejandro because she thinks he's drop dead gorgeous, has a hard time forming complete sentences whenever he’s nearby (yes, Ghost is silently jealous about it)
Rodolfo Parra
Intimated by Rudy sometimes but likes his cooking, also fangirls over Alejandro and Rudy.
König
accidentally mistaken König for Ghost -> is embarrassed and mortified about it -> surprisingly bonded well over niche topics
and for Raven, she's knows almost all the COD characters given her background and access to information, though she chose not to meet some of them. Note, these aren't arrange based on closeness since it's hard to show it, just more like people she has been involved with some comments xD
John Price
I could go on and on and on about them but I'll keep it simple. Currently, Price is Raven's fiancé, they've build their relationship from shaky grounds with many many downs and mistakes, but she'll take a bullet for him anytime. They've reached a point of codependency at this point I guess.
Kate Laswell
As someone who has history with intelligence work, she's cautious with CIA agents. It rubbed her the wrong way when Kate managed to dig up fragments of Raven's past, things she'd rather buried it six feet underground. I guess she felt intrusive about it even though she expected something like to happen. Despite this though, Raven doesn't hate Kate, she respects her for what she does. She prefers to keep Kate at arm's length, their relationship is civil but Raven tends to keep it professional.
Kyle Gaz Garrick
Gaz was the first to know about Raven from Price, and was there during her treatment of her back injury, so they're sort of solid buddies then.
Jelly [OC]
Raven has always struggled to express her affection for Jelly, not out of lack of feeling, but because she’s never been one to show her emotions easily. There’s something about Jelly that pulls at Raven in a way no one else ever has. Raven sees a reflection of herself in Jelly—someone who had the brains and abilities that would've surpasses her if it wasn't for the mission that severely wounded Jelly's nerves. It’s a side of herself Raven doesn’t often recognize in others. As such, she is extremely protective of Jelly. Let's just say the conversation with Ghost was uhhh....intense? xD (knives were involved and a clear message was sent)
Raven: really? him? Jelly- Jelly: He's uh....he's nice!!! Raven: *long sigh*
Simon Ghost Riley
Rocky af start, neither of them trust each other. Ghost didn't like the fact that Price is tying himself to someone with blacked-out background (as if he isn't "mysterious and dangerous" himself). Ngl, they kinda chill off with Price as the bridge between them. Surprise surprise, they would take the bullet for each other """""for the sake of Price"""""" (they’d never admit it out loud, and they certainly wouldn’t acknowledge that they actually care for one another)
Farah Karim and Hadir Karim
Raven’s time in Urzikstan with her PMC meant she was aware of Farah’s retaliation efforts, was there to witness the Captive mission whilst on watch duty for Lieutenant Price. Raven respects Farah’s resilience but doesn’t align with her ideologies—especially the decisions Farah makes regarding missiles in MW3. As for Hadir, Raven sees him as a wildcard, someone driven by emotion rather than strategy (in her eyes anyways), so she's kinda meh about the siblings.
Vladimir Makarov
Raven’s had dealings with Makarov in the past, thanks to Viktor (Raven's step-dad who owns the PMC Cobra) assigning her to handle transactions involving him. She's...well she was intrigued with Makarov’s unpredictable nature and considers him dangerous—not just to others, but to anyone who gets caught up in his plans. Though she doesn't agree whatever the hell he was doing afterwards.
John Soap Mactavish
Raven and Soap are…fine(?) There’s no bad blood between them, but there’s also no real bond. They’re more colleagues than friends. Raven respects Soap for being part of Price’s world, but their connection is more about Price than anything else (basically witnessed the real effect of Soap's supposedly death in MW3 on Price)
Nikolai
Raven knows Nikolai through Chimera. They’ve crossed paths during missions, though she doesn't know if he recognizes her. Their relationship is more functional than personal. Still, she recognizes him as someone who’s good to have on your side (has seen the uh...has seen Nikolai's "working" mode)
bonus: Raven from the Metropolitan Police Service (I think he's SAS too - ah you know the dude who told off Gaz??)
Gaz told Raven Liu about this Raven, laughed about it, dug up his history and went "you did not just compared me with this guy"

goddess of hunger y/n is a great idea, but hear me out-
y/n who is the goddess of curses themselves
and she is the one damned being sukuna absolutely fears.
basically a similar concept to Naruto Shippunden's Kaguya Otsutsuki, but in this timeline y/n not only is not a forgotten god, she rules the fates of any and every curse.
and sukuna being sukuna is obsessed with eliminating her so he can be the one and only king of curses and rule with no opposition.
but here's the thing :
you cannot kill a god.
so he is trying to find some loophole, some weakness that will help him wipe her out or at least make her disappear, maybe in a similar fashion to how satoru was sealed despite being the chosen one
and along the way he actually falls for her.
this could be cool if you are looking to explore different power dynamics, with yn the one in power for once, but if it's not your style I completely understand
but hey, this has so much angst and maybe enemies-to-lovers!

oh my god yes I love this too — the goddess of curses — maybe one that is in often in slumber and only appears to rebalance the odds.
perhaps Sukuna has gotten to a certain level where it’s not so simple to wipe him out but very possible for her, if she cared enough. but she doesn’t. meanwhile Sukuna is trying to find out her weaknesses — because there must be something, anything he can do, but what is a curse, even a king, to a god?
and then slowly as he chooses to ‘serve her,’ to find out her weakness, she begins to win her favor, but she’s winning his all the same—
I love it 🫣 it would be so fun to see Sukuna have to grovel in a way hahaha

Have u ever posted your comic or animation workflow anywhere? Im super curious on how you tackle the process, especially not using a drawing tablet. I know you have a very simple (and adorable) style so that probably helps in terms of workflow -- Im just curious about the steps you take.
Thank you! With both comics and animation my key thing is to not spend too much time on any particular thing, just draw loose and fast. Honestly the only downside to drawing with a mouse is that I can tell my arm has extremely specific muscle memory regarding it- if my mouse breaks and I get a new one I have to spend a good month or so just letting my hand get used to it again lol. Same with if my setup gets readjusted too much- right now my setup is my mouse on one of those padded mousepads, on top of 2 books, with my elbow resting on my 3DS case (I'll get an actual pillow or something for it eventually lol). But luckily thanks to this I suffer very minimal wrist pain 👍
(...Okay I started to go really in depth in my process here, so sorry if this is way more than what you were asking. Putting it under a readmore just to save space lol)
With MFM in particular, I start by writing out the entire script for the next story arc, which really is just all of the dialogue and vague notes about any important actions. Then I do the paneling with very loose stick-figure like sketches of where the characters are and what they're doing. I prefer having very little planning when it comes to character poses and panel shapes, coming up with those on the fly makes things much more exciting and faster to make. But it's the opposite with dialogue... it needs to be 100% FINAL before I draw a single line lol.
That's part of my script for my most recent chapter, as well as what my extremely loose goofy thumbnail sketching is like. I write the script as one big thing and don't separate it into pages until I actually start drawing- then I go and color change it just to keep track of what dialogue goes on each page
After that, I go back and do the ACTUAL sketch, as well as the lettering (I don't believe this is how it's done professionally. I used to do lettering as the very last step in the process... but then found it hard to cram speech bubbles in the right places lmao.) After that is lineart, coloring, background flat colors, then shading/rendering for all of it. I do each step in batches, as in I sketch out ALL pages of a chapter before moving to lineart, I line ALL pages before starting coloring, etc. I find it way easier to be productive when it's broken up like that, though when I first started the comic I used to draw each page to completion before starting the next (but also, the comic's style was DRASTICALLY simpler back then haha)
(Unfortunately I merged some of the shading to the background flat colors so it's not entirely accurate... oops) FireAlpaca has a sand texture feature that I only found out about last year- adding that to the backgrounds makes them look 10x better with WAY less effort.
With animation, it depends on the project. For simple 5-10 second animation I make for fun, there's very little planning lol. I skip some steps in the process- I'll sketch out the keyframes (and maybe any difficult inbetweens if necessary), line those, then go straight into making linework inbetweens. I'm not a cleanup artist and have no experience in that, so I always find trying to line my rough animation makes everything jittery and wobbly. If I do it with a clean line from the start then I can avoid that and save a lot of time 👍
For my bigger projects (such as the Parvey cartoon and the MFM Kickstarter trailer), I do the whole animatic with final audio first and foremost, with the animatic being almost like the keyframes. I split them up into individual shots, .mp4 files anywhere between 1-30 seconds usually, and animate those one at a time. I'm a huge fan of free to use programs and try to use them as much as I possibly can, here's a list of the ones I use:
FireAlpaca- for the actual drawing part itself (storyboarding/animating/etc). FireAlpaca has a feature that lets you export every frame as it's own drawing, as well as an onion skin mode
Windows Movie Maker- for compiling all of those frames into video format, creating individual shots. If you upload all of your frames and set them to around 0.08 seconds, it equals about 12fps (I usually animate at 0.10 seconds/10fps, its a bit slower but looks nice)
Onlinesequencer.net- for making music. It's the place I've made all of my songs on, like the timeloop song, hyperworkaholic, and the background music for the MFM Kickstarter trailer.
Audacity- for editing audio/music. Also great for recording things directly from your desktop
DaVinci Resolve- for editing and putting together all of the shots into one big video. Can get kind of intensive on the computer during rendering, so watch out.
YouCut (app)- also for editing and compiling shots, I used this one a lot a couple years back but I'm not sure how well it holds up. Doesn't need much phone storage to download but needs a lot to render videos.
MS Paint (yes really)- for typing up text. FireAlpaca has a text option but I don't like it as much as Paint's.
...The only thing I genuinely can't do alone is voice acting. Luckily there's a big voice acting community on Twitter and they're all amazing to work with!
This got... way more in depth than I planned for it to be, so sorry if this is way more than what you were asking lol. But that's my general process when it comes to my art 👍

Honestly when I started drawing TFs like 3 years ago it was my first proper exposure to drawing robots, and I still really struggle with figuring out how to draw them. It’s so different from drawing organic things. I unfortunately dont know how much help I can be as I still am not satisfied with how I myself draw them hahaha!
This isn’t advice but just explaining my thought process a little bit: I personally have more fun drawing organic forms, as opposed to structural/geometric, so I try to adapt TF designs to mimic the forms of human anatomy (like our musculature). This is easiest with the MTMTE designs, as they’re so complicated it’s easy to shift around and adapt the design to something more organic. G1-style designs are soooo blocky that they are difficult for me to draw unless they’re pretty simple drawings haha.
As for actual advice, all I can say is just to keep drawing them & look at other artist’s drawings of robots too :) I know that’s super lame advice but it’s applicable to anyone, regardless of your own personal aesthetic tastes & desires, everyone improves with time (and it helps to have a wide range of artistic influences too!). Sorry I don’t have anything more specific, thank you for the ask!!
