A few more weeks pass and it’s nearing the end of the season. Maemae’s leg is healing nicely, she had gotten the stitches out after a week and a half, and she no longer seems bothered by where the cut was. Their conversation from when he held her against his chest as they fell asleep after a passionate night together from a few months prior has been playing on repeat in Wills head ever since. More specifically her words of “I wanna marry you.” The thought consumes him to the point that he’s constantly online looking at engagement rings. He wants it to be perfect and he doesn’t want to get anything gaudy or tacky. He’s narrowed it down to a few rings, and he’s ready to go to the store to go buy it, but something holds him back. He has no idea if it’s even a good idea to get married right now. She’s the only person he’s ever met that he’s even considered marrying, and he loves her to death but is it even the right time? He has no idea, and he doesn’t even know who to talk to about it. He considers, maybe Toff. Toff and Cat have been married for like 8 years. Yeah… he figures he has no real other option at this point, besides asking a family member and he really doesnt wanna do that, so he goes to Toff’s house.
He knocks on the door, and a few seconds later Toff answers, “Will, hey man. what’s up?” He nods in greeting before answering, “Hey man, can I talk to you for a minute?” “Of course, come in”, he says stepping aside. When Will walks into the house and into the living room, he sees Cat curled up on the couch with a blanket over her lap and a mug in her hand. She smiles when she sees him. “Hi Will. Where’s Y/N?”, she asks. She’s used to him coming over with his girlfriend, or Mack sometimes, but now it’s just him. He smiles back at her, before taking a seat on one of the recliners across from the couch. “She’s home with Maemae, watching her. I just needed to ask Ty something real quick and I didn’t want to wait until later”, he explains. Toff sits down next to Cat, his hand immediately coming up to rest on her leg. His brows furrow, a little puzzled, but he can tell that there’s something bothering Will, “Oh okay. What’s up?” He leans back on the recliner, his gaze darting to Cat, before looking back at Toff. “It’s just… I was hoping to get some advice from you, since you’re married and all”, he says, his voice getting quieter, like he’s nervous. Cat notices how he’s looking between the two. Toff’s gaze follows Will’s shifting gaze, also noticing the way Will is looking at them. “Advice, huh? what, you trying to propose or something?”, he teases.
Will feels his face burn when Toff says that, and he rubs a hand over his face, feeling almost sheepish that it was so easy for Toff to guess what he’s here to talk about. “Yeah, yeah I am..”, he says. Cat smiles brightly, “You are? Aww that’s so cute” He nods, and he smiles softly, feeling shy now that it’s out in the air. Cat’s reaction eases his nerves slightly. He lets out a little chuckle as he runs a hand through his hair, “Yeah I am. I don’t know I’m just…. I’m not too sure about timing and everything so I needed some advice I guess..” Cat looks so absolutely excited and Toff notices her excitement, his expression turning to soft affection. He has a soft smile on his face as he responds. “Okay”, he says, pausing, “First off, are you sure that she wants to get married?” He nods without hesitating. “She does. She told me a few months back that she wanted to. Said those exact words. And I want to marry her. Like as soon as I can, honestly”, he admits. Cat’s face lights up again and Toff smiles as well. They’re both glad that they’re so sure about it. Cat chimes in before Toff can say anything, “Then what’s holding you back?”, she laughs. He shrugs, a slightly sheepish look on his face as he speaks, “I don’t know…. I guess I’m just worried it’s too early. We’re still really young. And we’ve only been together for about a year and a half.” Toff shakes his head slightly, he understands his train of thought. “Man, I get that. But some people get married at any age. If you’re both in agreement and you know that she’s the one, who cares what age you are?”
He smiles softly, Toff’s words making the anxiety in his chest ease slightly. Toff’s making it sound way more simple than it probably is, but he gets what he’s saying. Toff is older and more mature and much more experienced than he is, “Yeah I guess you’re right”, he says. Toff smiles softly again, seeing the look on Will’s face. He clearly wants what’s best for him, and he knows he probably shouldn’t give him this next suggestion, but he feels like he needs to hear it. “And you’re sure that you want to spend the rest of your life with her? Because it’s a big commitment man. It’s forever, and you need to be 100% sure that she’s it for you, or it won’t work. You’ve gotta be really damn sure” His entire body tenses for a second when Toff says that, but he relaxes within a second, completely sure of his answer when it comes out, “Yeah. I already know I want to spend the rest of my life with her. She’s the only person I could ever even imagine wanting to marry.” Toff holds back an amused smirk from how quickly he responded. Clearly his feelings are genuine, and Toff knows he’s already made up his mind. Cat glances over at Toff as he speaks, knowing he has something more to add, “Well, then man there’s nothing else to consider. If you know you want to spend the rest of your life with her, and you know she’s the same way, then I think you should propose as soon as possible.” Cat beams, “Have you picked a ring yet?”, she asks.
Will smiles as Cat asks the question. He’s slightly nervous about what they’ll think of his answer, but he decides to be honest and answers. “Yeah I’ve been looking online for a few weeks. I’ve narrowed it down to a few… I don’t know which one to get”, he says, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. Cat’s excitement only grows, “Oh my god you’ve already been looking? Aww” She’s practically buzzing on the couch, and Toff hides a smirk again as she continues, “Can we see?” Will laughs softly at how eager Cat is, but he’s not surprised in the slightest, and he pulls out his phone, opening up his notes app to the list of rings he’s saved. Cat practically lunges towards him, sitting on the edge of the couch, eager to look at them. Cat’s eyes widen as she looks at the list, clearly more than pleased with Will’s picks. Toff looks over at her, curious to see what she’s so excited about, and he leans over, looking at the list as well, his eyebrows slightly raising when he sees how good the rings actually are. “These are beautiful Will. I’m sure she’ll love whichever one you pick”, she says. Will smiles, happy that they like them, and at cat’s encouragement. Toff nods in agreement with Cat, before speaking again, “Yeah man, they’re all great, I’d be happy if I was her” Will nods again, he figured that the ones he picked were good, and he knows he just needs to pick one, but he still seems unsure, and he rubs a hand over his hair again. He doesn’t want to be annoying or anything, but he just needs that extra little bit of reassurance first. “You both think so? I just don’t wanna get something tacky or gaudy” “Definitely not”, Cat chimes in, “All of them are very classy, definitely something any woman would be happy to get proposed to with. You have fantastic taste.” Toff nods again, agreeing with everything she’s saying. “Yeah I think you’re good man. Like Cat said, you’ve got great taste. I guarantee she’s gonna love it, whatever ring you end up getting her.”, he says. They talk for a little bit longer before Will heads back home.
Will feels significantly better after talking to Toff and Cat and he feels like he has a better grasp on what he’s doing. He drives home feeling a bit more confident than he did before. When he gets home, he parks his car, a small smile on his face. He walks inside, and he can hear the sound of Maemae babbling from the living room, and he finds her and Maemae sitting on the couch watching a cartoon. She looks up as he walks in, smiling warmly and his heart skips a beat just like it does every time. “Y’know this Bluey is pretty interesting…”, she says smiling at him. He walks over towards the couch, sitting down next to her, and Maemae climbs up on him, snuggling up to him. He rubs her head lightly, and he smiles back at his girlfriend, amused, “Yeah? You think so?” She smiles warmly, watching as Maemae gets comfortable and then looks back at him. “Yeah it’s pretty good. Kinda funny to watch”, she says, she always loves watching the two sit like this, her daughter clinging to Will like a lifeline after he’s been gone for a while. The little girl really loves him. He nods, keeping a hand on Maemae as she lays with him, and he glances at the tv, barely taking in what’s going on. He’s more focused on how close she is, his free hand itching to pull her closer to him, just to have her in his arms. “How’s she been?”, he says, nodding his head down at Maemae. “Good. Not too much trouble. We’ve just been watching tv all day”, she says. He nods, smiling at her, before he looks down at Maemae again. She’s basically sprawled out on him, her head laying on his chest as she watches tv, little fingers in her mouth as she drools all over his shirt, and he knows he’s gonna have to eventually move her so they can talk without her overhearing, but he’s not quite ready yet. He just wants to revel in the feeling of having her close for a bit.
She watches them, a small smile playing at her lips, and she can tell that he’s enjoying holding her close, and it gives her something that’s almost fond nostalgia. It reminds her of moments with her own father. The father she hadn’t spoken to since she told her parents she was pregnant. It makes her heart hurt, and she’s suddenly overcome with a strong sense of sadness. He notices her expression change almost immediately, and his eyebrows furrow. “Hey… you okay?”, his tone is soft and slightly cautious, but he has a look on his face as if he already knows the answer. “Yeah im okay”,she says, “Just… thinking” He raises an eyebrow at her, clearly not believing her. “Thinking about what?” She feels tears well in her eyes. “I just… I really miss my parents…”, she says, “I wish they could see how beautiful this is… even if it wasn’t”, her voice cracks, “Even if it wasn’t ideal for it to happen the way it did… I just.. wish they could see her. See how beautiful she is.” His heart drops and he looks at her, his gaze soft and full of compassion. he can tell she’s fighting the tears now and he wishes he could do something to make her not sad anymore. “Hey..”, his voice is soft and he places a hand gently on her knee. “I know you do… I’m so sorry baby” She just shakes her head and wipes a few tears that start falling. She can’t stop the words that come out, it flows out of her almost like word vomit but she doesn’t have the strength to stop it, “I just… I don’t get why they can’t look past their opinions about me and see Maemae… She deserves to have grandparents”, she takes a deep breath. “And—”, she says, “I know she still has your parents, and I know how much they love her and I’m so grateful they do I just… I just wish they could see her and look past all the hate they have for me”, she says.
Listening to her is only making his heart hurt worse and he reaches for her, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her closer, placing a hand on her thigh and rubbing it gently as she talks. “Hey hey, come here baby” She lets him wrap his arms around her, and she buries her face into the side of his chest, letting out a shaky little exhale at the nickname. It’s so familiar and it’s exactly what she wants and exactly what she needs right now and it almost makes it even worse because the longer she goes without them, the more she thinks about how much she misses them. He rubs her back, holding her close, rubbing his free hand gently over her hair, wanting to do whatever he can to make her feel better. He just wants to take it away, everything she’s feeling, he just wants to take the hurt away. He hates seeing her like this, but he doesn’t know what to say, so he just holds her close and rubs her back. They spend the rest of the night like that, excluding when they have to put Maemae to bed for real.
A few days pass and she decides to try and contact her parents. She doesn’t tell Will. They agree to lunch with her, and she hesitates to bring MaeMae, but she wants them to meet her. To see what a beautiful little girl she is. It goes shakily. And she can tell her mother loves Maemae already, but her father is different. He’d always been the harder one to please when it came to anything (except for school, that was all her mom). What she doesn’t expect is for him to ask to speak with her privately, taking her outside and away from public view, where he full on slaps her. He had never done that, not even when he found out she was pregnant. She can’t help but stand there shocked as her cheek blooms with pain, tears stinging her eyes. She doesn’t say another word, running back inside and grabbing Maemae. She bids her mother goodbye quickly before taking her daughter and rushing home. When she finally makes it home she unlocks the door frantically and rushes in, shutting the door behind her, putting a barrier between herself and the outside world. She feels so small and tiny and scared and sad and a million other things all at once and she can't even see through the tears in her eyes as she locks the door. She can feel herself on the verge of shattering and she feels like the breath keeps getting knocked out of her lungs. She's terrified and all alone, except for a little toddler, who's watching her intently. She smiles at her, trying not to let her see her in pain like this. At least she feels like she does, but she’s not entirely sure. The left side of her face is numb other than a tingling sensation where her father’s hand has hit her. She glances at the clock on the wall, trying to blink tears away from her eyes. She makes out the numbers “12:” and that’s about it. Will won’t be home until 2. She keeps crying, trying not to let herself breakdown completely, but she feels like the walls are tumbling down around her. She feels so stupid for even thinking this was a good idea, for thinking they’d see her daughter and just change their mind. She knows how stupid she was, and she wishes it was different, and the clock saying it’s the middle of the day reminds her of his absence. He’s not coming back for hours. And she’s alone. She finally lets out a sob, a quiet and strangled sound that is completely unintentional, but she can’t hold her tears back anymore, and they spill over her cheeks. The pain’s setting in and she can’t take it all, and she wishes more than anything that he was here, holding her, telling her it’s gonna be okay.
Maemae makes a sound, standing herself up and waddling over to her mom. She just about breaks again when she sees her daughter coming towards her. She wants desperately to pull her up and hold her tight, wanting to cling to her for some sense of comfort at all, but she doesn’t. She looks at her, noticing the concern in her little eyes, her sweet little face looking at her worriedly. “I’m okay babygirl”, she says, her voice coming out sounding like a broken mess. “Im okay”, she repeats, scooping her up and holding her close. Maemae wraps her little arms around her mom’s neck, holding on tight. She buries her face into the crook of her mom’s neck, and the feeling almost makes her cry again. Her baby, her beautiful, beautiful baby, how could they not see how beautiful she is? She holds her to her chest, burying her face into her hair. She presses a kiss to the top of her head, feeling so much love for this little girl. She almost forgets about the pain in her face temporarily, just focusing on her child. They stay like that for a while, just sitting there, until she hears the front door open. She looks up, face tear stained and her cheek still throbbing. It’s probably going to bruise, she had always bruised easily. He drops his bag by the front door and walks through the house., “Y/N?”, he says, glancing around. He’s sure she’s home but he doesn’t see her. He thinks it’s weird, and walks into the living room, seeing her sitting on the couch and seeing her face, and his entire demeanor changes. The second he sees her, he knows something is wrong. His heart drops to his stomach when he sees the look on her face and he can tell she’s been crying, and the way she’s holding Maemae so tight is so different than usual, he feels the panic rise in his chest. He walks over to her, his eyes looking over her face as he gets closer, and then he sees it, and his heart completely falls out of his chest. “Baby… what happened to your face?”, he gently sits down next to her, his gaze locked on her cheek, his voice low and concerned. “I went to see my parents”,she mumbles, “He hit me Will…”
His jaw tightens and his eyes darken, anger flowing through him. The thought of her parents, her own flesh and blood, hurting her like that is something he can’t even comprehend, and he has to restrain himself from going to find her father and punching him in the face. “He hit you?” “On the bright side… I think my mom likes her”, she says, ignoring him and trying to crack a joke. She doesn’t like the look on his face, the anger. It scares her. Anger is unpredictable. He doesn’t find it funny, and seeing her not react to it makes him upset. He gently grabs her chin, carefully moving her face so he’s looking at her, and he forces eye contact with her, his touch gentle even though he’s angry. “Baby… why the hell would you go see them?” “I just… i wanted to give them the chance. To see her.. to fix things”, she says, voice quiet. He lets go of her chin, sighing softly. He wishes it had worked, he really does, but the fact that she’s sitting here with an already dark bruise on her cheek tells him it didn’t go well. “How did they react to Maemae?” “My mom loved her…”,she says, “My dad…”, she trembles slightly just thinking about him after today’s events, “He didn’t even say anything…” His eyes harden even more at the thought of her father and he has to hold himself back from getting up to go find the man and beat him to a pulp. He wants to so badly but he has to hold himself together for her, “He didn’t say anything?” She shrugs, biting her lip. “I mean… he was kinda cold.. he didn’t interact with her at all and barely looked at her but.. my mom really liked her”, she emphasizes it again. This was a step in the right direction. He nods a little, understanding how she might feel. He knows she’s holding on to every tiny bit of possible hope. “I’m sorry it didn’t go better baby”
“I feel stupid”, she admits in a quiet voice, tears welling up in her eyes again. “I shouldn’t have even gone. I should’ve known it would be like this.. I just hoped it would be different somehow”, she says. “Hey…”, he says softly, “Hey… no. You’re not stupid baby, okay? You did what you thought was best, alright? Just… the way they reacted, that’s on them, okay? You didn’t do anything wrong” “I did though. It’s all my fault. that I don’t have a relationship with them anymore. I was the one who went and got pregnant. I was the one who broke the only rule they gave me” He shakes his head, he hates her talking about herself like this. How she could ever blame herself? “No. You did nothing wrong. People make mistakes, okay? It happened. Yeah it’s not how they wanted it but it happened, and they should still accept that it happened. They should still get over it.”, he looks at her intently. “You made a mistake but you have a beautiful daughter because of that mistake” She nods, looking down at the little girl who’s fallen asleep on her chest. He softens looking at her, and her beautiful little girl. “You did a damn good job with Maemae, baby. She’s amazing. And they’re stupid for not seeing that” She nods again, more tears starting to fall. It’s like a damn broke. Everything just keeps coming out and she can’t stop crying. He just pulls her close to him, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close, careful not to jostle the baby. He’s so angry at her parents but he’s even more pissed off at himself for not being there. He holds her close, letting her cry into him, his hand gently rubbing her back.
The next few days, her cheek blooms into a nasty bruise, and if you look hard enough you can almost make out the handprint. She tries not to stare at it in the mirror, the image making her stomach twist. The first time she saw it, saw the distinct marks from his fingers, she threw up. He hates it. Seeing the mark on her face every time he looks at her makes his heart plummet, and seeing the way she reacts. The way she avoids looking in the mirror, the way she can’t stand to view the mark on her face. It just kills him, and he doesn’t know how to make her feel better. One day, there’s a knock on their door. Will goes to open it, and is met with her mother. He just stares at her for a second, and he feels the anger rise in him again when he sees her. But, he holds himself together for now, even though it’s difficult. “Can I help you?”, he tries to keep his tone neutral, but the bitterness seeps through anyways. “Is she here?”, the older woman asks quietly. He knows who she’s talking about. He clenches his jaw briefly before nodding. “Yeah, she’s here”, he doesn’t open the door any farther yet, and stands in the doorway as he continues, “Why do you ask?” “Can i see her?”, she asks, and the woman wears an almost sad expression. He hesitates. He doesn’t trust her, not one bit. He doesn’t want to expose her to someone who could possibly hurt her more. “Please”, she says, “I… I miss my babygirl…” He doesn’t want to give in. He wants to protect her but he sees the sadness in her mother’s eyes. It looks genuine and it throws him off and he hesitates, “I don’t know if she wants to see you…” “Then.. can you just.. let her know i stopped by? Tell her to text me?”, the woman offers, almost pleading with him. He looks at her for a moment before nodding slowly, still not trusting her fully but giving in. “Yeah I can do that” “Thank you”, she says, sighing softly, “Please just tell her i love her…” She turns to walk away and Will closes the door.
He turns around and walks into the living room, and notices that she’s sitting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, watching the news on tv. He walks over and sits down next to her, and she looks at him, noticing the serious look on his face. “Who was that?”, she asks. He pauses, sighing softly. He doesn’t want to tell her, but she has to know and he can’t hide it from her. He’s torn on what to say. “Baby… that was your mother” Her face blanks for a minute. “She’s here?”, she asks, voice cracking. He nods, reaching over and taking her hand in his, his touch is gentle and soft, and he squeezes her hand for reassurance. “Yeah… she wanted to see you” She can’t stop herself, yanking her hand free, getting up and running to the door, throwing it open to see if her mother was still there. She was. She runs out, barefoot and in her pajama pants and throws her self into a hug with the woman. “Mommy”, she whimpers, tears in her eyes. The woman is taken aback for a second before she hugs her back tightly, holding her close as tears fall from her own eyes. She hugs her just as tight and she presses a kiss to the top of her head. “Oh babygirl I missed you so much” He just stands back, watching as she hugs her mother. A part of him wants to hate her, but he can’t help but see the brokenness in the woman. He sees the way she holds her daughter close and tight, like if she lets go of her for a second, she might never see her again. She pulls away, and the older woman can see the bruise blossomed on her daughter’s cheek and her heart clenches. She touches it with her fingertips, barely touching her skin, and her eyes well up again as she looks at the girl in front of her. “Oh baby…”, she chokes out, knowing exactly how the mark got there. “I’m so sorry he did this to you”, she says. She just shakes her head, eyes still shiny. “It’s okay momma… I’m okay”, but her voice comes out small and broken. She gives her a sad smile, “I just… You know how your father is… this is something he will get over, and he will NEVER do this to you again. I’ll make sure of it”, her mother says, “Just please… give him another chance.. he needs time.” She looks at her mother, tears still in her eyes. Her heart aches, because despite the fact that her father acted the way he did, she loves him and she knows that he doesn’t entirely deserve what’s happening. “Okay…”, she agrees quietly. She hugs her again, holding her mother tightly. Her mother kisses her head again, just trying to hold onto her daughter for a few more minutes. “I love you so much, babygirl. Always know that okay?” “I love you too”, she says. She pulls away again, a sad smile on her face, and shes hesitant but she finally says, “I should probably go. But… we will talk again soon okay?”, she cups one side of her daughter’s face, gently stroking her bruised cheek. She nods, “You’ll call?”, she asks. She nods again, bringing her other hand up to her face so both her hands are cupping her cheeks, looking at her daughter’s eyes. “I promise. I’ll call soon, okay?” “Okay”, she says quietly. She hugs her again, not wanting to pull away, but she forces herself to break away, and she looks at her daughter’s face one more time. “I love you, babygirl” “I love you too momma”, she says. Her mother smiles softly again. She’s tearing up again and she knows if she doesn’t leave soon she’ll start sobbing, so she just whispers one more “i love you” before turning to leave. She turns back to Will, coming back inside. She feels weird. Lighter, but like she still wants to cry. He stands off to the side, still watching her. He feels like he’s seen something intimate and he can’t help the feeling of almost like guilt. He knows this is something he probably shouldve never witnessed but he did. He opens his arms for her to come to him, knowing she probably needs some sort of comfort, and she walks over to him and lets him hold her. He wraps his arms around her and pulls her against him, his chin resting on the top of her head and his hand lightly resting on the small of her back.
Over the next few weeks, her mother comes around more. Calls more. Becomes more involved in her life, just like she was before she got pregnant. She’s missed it. And she absolutely adores Cady Mae. She’s already bought her so many things. Her mother tells her how her father no longer acts like he wants to burn down the entire world when she tells him stories of her and her granddaughters adventures from that day. How he’s getting better. She decides she wants to try again. To talk. She brings Will with her this time, leaving Maemae at home, Mack coming over to watch her. Will holds her hand as they make his way over to their front door and he glances down at her. He’s nervous about this, but he just squeezes her hand in reassurance. He knows she’s nervous and the look in her eyes tells him she is worried about this but she still looks determined and she rings the doorbell. She holds her breath and Will just squeezes her hand. A few seconds later, the door opens, and it’s her father this time, and there’s no hint of anger in his face. He’s completely calm, which throws her off a bit, but he just looks at them, “Y/N… come in” She nods, taking her first step over the threshold, and Will follows behind her as they step inside. They walk into the living room and they sit on a couch across from the chairs that her parents are sitting in. No one says anything. Everyone just sits in silence for a minute or so that seems much longer than it actually is.
They sit down in the living room. The same living room she grew up in. She can see that despite everything, the pictures are still hung up. Ones from every birthday, every award ceremony she’s ever had, her college signing, all of it. Just like it was before everything went to shit. Her heart clenches and her throat feels tight. Her father can’t seem to keep his eyes off of her. He feels so many things. Remorse. Guilt. Love. Regret. He loves her so much and everything he did eats away at him each day, but he stays quiet for now. “I’m sorry”, he says after a long silence. And she thinks it’s one of the only times she’s heard the man apologize. She just looks at him, and she sees the regret and guilt written all over his face, and she feels the same things he does. “What for?”, she asks softly, the words coming out shaky. “Everything. For my behavior before, and for what happened a few weeks ago. I… I never should’ve put my hands on you” He can’t look her in the eye, guilt and shame seeping into every word that comes out of his mouth. He’s ashamed of himself, more than she can know. “Why did you do it?”, she murmurs, her eyes still on her father. She knows there’s no good answer, that there’s no way to justify it, but she still wants to know why. She wants to know what made him lash out. He takes a deep breath, still refusing to look at her. He’s almost scared to meet her gaze, scared of seeing the damage he left behind “There’’s no excuse. I was angry… and I lost my mind and I didn’t control myself. I had a million things going through my head and I just… I acted, and I shouldn’t have. And I regret it more than you can know”, he says. “You can’t just… you can’t just do that… you can’t put your hands on people because you’re angry. You can’t just hurt people to make yourself feel better”, he looks at her, meeting her gaze, and her face is hard, almost like a mother scolding a child. The father-daughter roles are completely reversed, the man feeling so much smaller in this moment. “I know. I know I can’t. I know what I did was not okay”, he takes a deep breath again, eyes still on hers. The guilt he feels is practically palpable and it feels like he’s drowning in it.
She’s silent for a few moments. “I don’t forgive you..”, she says, and there’s a beat. The words hit him like a semi truck and the feeling of guilt floods over him even worse than before and he hangs his head, tears already beginning to well up in his eyes as he nods. “I deserve that”, the words come out shaky, his voice weak and sad. She holds her hand up, the action something he used to whoop her for when she was little. but she isn’t finished talking. “For now. But i want to work on our relationship. And MAYBE, MAYBE if things get better, I will let you be in Maemaes life. I want her to have a grandfather who’s going to love her the way I know you can. The way you loved me growing up.”, she says, and she’s proud of herself for not crying. He nods again, feeling a tiny but of hope when she says that. He wants to be involved so badly. He just wants a relationship with his daughter again. He’s been miserable without her and he knows everything that happened is his fault. But he tries to put on a brave face. “I understand. I accept that. And I’m willing to do anything to make things right with you and to spend time with my granddaughter” She nods. “And you’re going to need to learn to control your temper around her. Even if you’ve done nothing to her, she’s going to be able to feel the negative energy from you. She’s smart like that. She reads people easily” She pauses, “That being said, if you ever put your hands on her… or me… you will never see either of us again.”, her tone is firm. He nods, eyes full of sincerity and he looks his daughter in the eyes again. His voice is still shaky. “I know. I would never hurt her. I swear on everything, I will never lay another hand on you or her.” “You promise?”, she asks, almost desperately. She wants to believe him. He’s her father, and she loves him in spite of everything. “I swear to you, baby girl. I will never ever put my hands on you or your daughter again” He can feel the tears slipping down his cheeks, but he makes no attempt to wipe them away. She’s never seen him cry. She nods. and that’s that. They leave, and she slumps exhaustedly the minute she’s in the car.
Will doesn’t say anything, knowing what she needs is just some quiet right now. As he drives them back home, he reaches out and squeezes her hand, just to give her some reassurance. The ride is mostly spent in silence. She’s staring blankly out the window, her mind still feeling blank from everything. It’s not really an uncomfortable silence, but it’s not entirely comfortable either. it’s just… there. She’s a little out of rhythm from the meeting for the next few days. But she gets back into it. It takes a while, a few months, but her relationship with her parents gets a lot better. They build their trust back up. They’re there to celebrate Cady Mae’s second birthday with them, and they get to finally meet Mack and Toff and all of their other friends. It takes Will a while to shake his resentment for her father, but he does, and they begin to bond. He even takes the step to ask for his permission to propose to her, which he plans on doing soon, having already bought the ring. She notices the change right away. They’re still rocky at first but each time she sees her parents, it’s like the walls are beginning to come down and she starts to feel like she did before, with the family she grew up with. Will gets along great with her parents. He loves being around them, and they love being around him. They love how much he cares for her. He thinks about the ring constantly. It hasn’t left the small box he keeps it in since the moment he bought it, and he can’t wait to give it to her. He has the perfect plan. He’s going to take her to the Monterey Bay aquarium, her favorite place, and one she hasn’t been able to visit in a long while, and he’s going to propose in front of the shark tank. It’s her favorite exhibit after all. He’s nervous. He doesn’t think she’ll say no but he can’t help but be nervous. He wants this to be perfect, and he doesn’t want to mess it up, but he knows his girlfriend well. This is going to mean so much to her, and he knows that she’ll love his choice of location. She has no idea. She keeps wondering why he’s been so weird lately. It’s not bad or anything, but she can tell he’s hiding something and its driving her crazy. She keeps looking at him but he won’t give anything away. He just keeps smiling at her and telling her he has a surprise for her soon. She gasps, jumping around excitedly when he shows her the tickets. She figures that’s the surprise. She always talks about the aquarium, hell even her lock and homescreen and her phone case, and her background in her laptop are different variations of sea creatures. Marine Biology was her dream, though she didn’t get to continue that since she got pregnant. But she thinks she’s happier with her life the way it is right now.
On the day they go, Will is the one who packs the stroller for Mae. She’s a little bit bigger than the last time they used it, but they both know a two year old on her feet will be hard to keep up with, and that she isn’t going to want to walk the whole time and one of them will have to end up carrying her. She’s so excited. She can’t stand it. She feels like shes about to burst. She just wants to get there. He takes her hand and helps her out of the car, and they unload the stroller and get it set up. They get Maemae into the stroller, not blocking her in, and she’s already waving at everything and babbling about the things she sees. When they get there, she’s elated to find that Mack is there too, along with Toff and Cat. Mack and Toff both greet them as they’re just walking in. Mack hugs her happily and ruffles her hair, even though he knows she hates it, while Toff scoops up Mae. “There's my favorite little girl”, he coos. They walk through all the different exhibits. Cat, being the angel she is, offers to push her stroller while Toff carries Mae around and talks to her and Mack about the different fishes. She on the other hand, its rattling Wills ear off with facts about every animal she sees when she knows them. They reach the shark tunnel and the other three hang back towards the entrance. Her and Will walk towards the middle, her not clocking the fact that the others have stopped, nor that Cat has pulled out her camera to record and take pictures. She stares in awe above her as different kinds of sharks swim by.
Will’s heart is pounding. He’s been waiting for this moment for what feels like forever. He smiles as she looks up at all the sharks, watching her eyes glimmer in the light of them. She looks so beautiful right now. She’s never looked more beautiful to him. He takes a deep breath, getting her attention “Y/N”, he says softly. She looks at him, her eyes shining. This is the happiest she’s looked in a long while. He takes her hand in his, his other hand slipping into his pocket. He’s trying to get his mind to focus and get rid of all the nerves running through him, but all he can think about is how badly he doesn’t want to screw this up. He just wants everything to be perfect for her, she deserves it. “Come here”, he murmurs, gently pulling her to him. There are other people around, and usually she hates PDA, but he’s made her so happy that she lets him anyways. He gently pushes her hair behind her ear, letting his hand cup her cheek. Just as gently he guides her to look at him, and at this point his heart feels like it’s going to burst out of his chest and his palms are sweaty. He takes a shaky breath, trying to get rid of the nerves as best as he can, but she’s looking at him with those beautiful eyes of hers and God. She’s a little confused. She can feel the shakiness in his hands against her face, she can see the slight tremble in his jaw, and it’s a little bit strange. She’s seen him shy or nervous on occasion, but this is different. He’s practically shaking, and she’s never seen him like this before. “Are you okay? Are you sick?”, she asks worriedly. He lets out a shaky laugh for a moment, and he smiles weakly. “No, baby I’m okay… I just…” He’s not even sure what to say. He’s stumbling over every single word.
It’s starting to freak her out a little bit. He seems extremely nervous about something and she has no idea why. She’s trying to figure out what it could be, and she’s wracking her brain for some sort of answer, for anything at all to explain this, but she just can’t think of anything. Another shaky laugh escapes his lips, and he can feel his heartbeat in his ears. He wants to say so many things to her. He wants to tell her how beautiful she is, and how he would die for her. He wants to tell her that she’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to him. He wants to say a million things but he can’t seem to say any of it, words seem like such a foreign thing at this point. She can’t help but worry now. Is something actually wrong with him? Why can’t he seem to find his words? She’s never seen him like this, and the longer she just looks at him, the more nervous she’s getting and the more questions she has. And he’s just standing there, silently and awkwardly, and she can feel her stomach twist. He’s staring into her face and he can feel the worry, the concern, the fear coming off of her in waves. God, he needs to say something, he just needs to say something. “Y/N…”, he says again, trying to make some sort of coherent sentence, but he feels tongue-tied. God she’s so gorgeous. This can’t be happening at a better time, with the beautiful lights of the aquarium illuminating her face and making her look like an actual goddamn angel. Why does this have to be so hard? She’s still standing close to him, practically pressed up against him, and people are starting to stare at them, she can feel their eyes. His face flushes a bit. This was not the time to get distracted, this was the time where he needed to be on it. But she was so close to him and she was so beautiful and it was taking all of his willpower to concentrate himself. He takes a shaky breath, looking down at her. His hand is still holding her face and he lets his thumb brush gently against her skin, “Just listen to me for a minute okay?” “Okay?”, she says, her tone weary.
He takes another breath, trying to keep himself together as he continues to look into her eyes, his thumb brushing her cheek again. “I… I don’t know what to say, or how to say it, but I’m gonna try my best”, he murmurs, his heart pounding harder and harder in his chest. Her heart is hammering now, and she can feel herself getting anxious and nervous. What is this? Why isn’t he acting right? It’s making all the what if situations flood her head, each one worst than the next. He can feel it, the concern and nervousness growing in her, and he can see it on her face, and he knows he needs to do this now. He takes a deep, shaky breath, clearing his throat a bit. “When you came into my life… it was like a whole new world opened up. You completely changed me, entirely… And I have never known happiness like this before, and I don’t think I’d be able to live normally if I were to lose that happiness” She can’t help the feeling of her heart melting a bit right now. He’s looking at her with so much intensity and love and all the air seems to have left her lungs and oh God is this what she thinks it is. He takes another shaky breath, unable to pull his eyes away from her gaze, and he can feel himself starting to crack. “Ever since I met you I knew there was something different about you. I knew I needed to get to know you, and be with you and you were unlike anyone I had ever met before. Hell, you… you made me fall in love with you”, he says, voice thick with emotion. “And then”, he says, “I met Cady Mae, and I fell in love with her too.”
She can feel tears welling up in her eyes immediately. And she knows where this is going, knows what this is, and her heart feels like it’s going to beat out of her chest. He swallows thickly, taking one of her hands and wrapping his fingers around hers. He’s shaking, but he’s managed to keep himself, mostly, together, and he’s amazed his hands aren’t trembling more than they are. “And now I look at my life, and I see you, and I see our beautiful daughter, and you two are the best things to ever happen to me. I…”, he squeezes her hand again, looking down at her hand in his. “I want to spend the rest of my life with both of you. I don’t want to imagine living without you” She almost sobs as he says “our daughter”. To know he thinks of her little girl in that way, without even being biologically related to her, it causes something to surge in her chest. He takes another deep, shaky breath, unable to stop looking down at their hands, his fingers squeezing hers. He takes another deep breath, finally bringing his eyes back up to her face. It’s difficult for him to continue, because it’s almost like she’s glowing. He squeezes her hand again, and he holds eye contact with her as he asks. “Baby…”, he says as he pulls the box out of his pocket and drops down to one knee. The second her eyes find the box, a gasp escapes her and her hand flies over her mouth. She knew this is what was happening, but actually seeing it now was something else. Something in her chest feels tight, a feeling so warm and intense it physically feels like something pulling at her heart.
He feels like he might cry, just from the look on her face. He can feel people start to gather behind them, and he knows Mack is taking pictures, and a few people are whispering around them, but all he can focus on is her, and the way she’s looking down at him and at the open box. She’s fighting tears as she looks down at him, her hand still over her mouth, and she’s almost afraid to say anything, afraid it’s all just a mistake, or one of her stupid ass day dreams, but she can feel his hand shaking in hers and she knows it’s not a dream. That this is real, and it’s happening. He takes one more shaky breath, before the words finally leave his mouth, “I love you so goddamn much. I always have, and I always will. I would do anything for you, and I don’t want to spend a single second of my life without you. You… you and our daughter”, he says softly, and she feels the tears fall from her eyes without control, but she’s still looking at him. “Y/N, will you marry me?” She can’t help the sob that comes out of her mouth as she nods her head. “Yes Will, yes”, she says.
The second the world “yes” leaves her mouth he’s standing up, pulling her close to him, the box gripped tightly in his hand. He’s already feeling the tears forming, blurring his vision and he buries his face in her neck as he tightens his hold on her, his arms wrapping so tight around her that he’s pretty sure nothing could pull them apart. She cries into his shoulder. she’s so happy. and the people around them clap, Macklin and toff cheering as cat smiles at them, all watching as they pull away and Will slips the ring onto her finger. He pulls away from her just slightly, just enough to look at her face. He’s crying now, the happiest he could possibly be, tears running down his face, and he’s looking at her like she’s the best thing in the world. He cups her face gently, his hands shaking just a little bit, and he’s just looking at her. “You’re mine now”, he whispers. She smiles brightly, bringing him closer and kissing him sweetly. Maemae, ever the angel, is clapping loudly, even after everyone has stopped, no doubt only starting because everyone else was and then she discovered how fun it is to make noise in quiet places. The whole situation is just perfect. He loves her, he loves their daughter, and she just agreed to marry him. He is the absolute happiest he possibly could be right now, and his heart feels like it might explode. He can hear their friends all congratulating them, and he takes this time to pick up Maemae and hold her against him.
She’s in absolute heaven right now. She knows that her friends are happy for her, and her family will be too, and that her daughter is so very happy. She smiles and she laughs softly as Will picks their daughter up and holds her close, pressing kisses to the top of her head over and over, his daughter, his little girl, and it’s so overwhelming and she can’t even remember how she got this lucky. Shes almost scared she’s going to wake up and it will all vanish, and she’ll be back in her cold dorm room, positive pregnancy test in hand. He presses a kiss to her forehead, then another, and another, all over her face, and he smiles, his eyes still wet with tears. He’s holding their daughter, his daughter, in one arm, and his fiancé in the other, and he feels like it’s all just too perfect to be real. They go throughout the rest of the aquarium. They get to the gift shop and she buys two shark plushies, claiming “I have to get one at every aquarium I go to. The other one is for MaeMae” but Will knows the truth. They walk out of the gift shops and walk back over to their friends. Will takes her hand in his, the one that’s now sporting a ring, and squeezes it gently. He holds their daughter against him, his arm tight around her, and all of their friends are smiling and congratulating them. Mack is already begging to know when the wedding will be, and Toff is grinning, watching the two of them with their daughter. She laughs softly at her friend’s excitement. She’s practically glowing and smiling so hard her cheeks hurt, but she’s so happy she doesn’t even care. She’s engaged. She actually gets to marry the man holding her in his free arm, and she never thought she could be this lucky.

golden hour.
req: yes | 💬 fia girlie! i've followed you over to this blog finally! would you be open to writing a smitty fic with a plus size reader? maybe something where they go to a sharks gala to like hard launch their relationship and he fully shows her off and loves on her like all night? if you have time babes and are open to writing it! no pressure tho!
pair: will smith x f!reader ; will smith x mid/plus-size!reader
genre: fluff, romance, real-world au.
warnings: pure fluff, minor self-esteem/body image themes handled positively, public affection, protective boyfriend energy, tooth-rotting levels of love.
summary: you’ve only been dating will for six months, but tonight marks a milestone, it was your first public appearance together at the team’s annual charity gala. will’s been bragging about you to his teammates for months, but now it’s time for the hard launch. you’re nervous, but will? he’s absolutely thrilled to show you off. and when you step into that ballroom, it becomes crystal clear that he’s not holding anything back. not when it comes to loving you.
🍅’s note: the moment i saw this request, i was so ready, like i couldn’t even wait. i had to start working on it immediately because duh, smitty hard-launching us is literally everything i need. let me stay delulu in peace again and again.
“smitty, do i look okay?”
will turns around mid-buttoning his tux jacket and freezes. his lips part like he’s about to say something, but then he just stares. and stares.
“hello?” you ask, smoothing your dress nervously. “earth to smitty?”
he stares.
and then keeps staring.
you fidget, smoothing the fabric of your floor-length dress, fingers brushing over the curve of your hip, the cinched waist, the soft flutter of the sleeves.
“okay, seriously,” you say, laughing nervously, “you’re scaring me.”
he crosses the room in slow motion, tux half-done, bowtie forgotten, eyes locked on you like he’s just seen the moon for the first time.
“i’m sorry,” he says, voice low. “but holy shit babe.”
“you look…” his voice cracks. he clears his throat and tries again.
his hands land gently at your sides.
“you look so good i think i forgot how to blink.”
you roll your eyes, blushing despite yourself.
“you’re such a cornball.”
“and you’re unreal.”
he tugs you closer, dipping his head until your foreheads touch.
“like… are you kidding me? you look like someone painted you.”
“okay, now you’re laying it on thick,” your cheeks burning.
he leans back just enough to look at you again.
“thick is my favorite. did i not make that clear?”
you burst out laughing.
will grins, proud of himself. then softer, almost reverently.
“you’re stunning. you always are, but tonight? i’m not gonna stop touching you. everyone’s gonna have to deal.”
the gala is held at an upscale downtown hotel. you step out of the car in heels you only half-regret wearing, and will, true to his word, never lets go of your hand.
you barely get ten steps inside the ballroom before tyler toffoli spots you.
“there she is,” toff says, holding a drink and smiling wide.
“we thought will was making you up. showed us pictures like a proud dad with a costco-sized wallet. finally get to meet the mystery woman in person.”
you laugh. “hopefully i live up to the hype.”
“no offense, but you’re way cooler than we expected,” toff says, eyes glinting.
“he talks about you constantly.”
“he loves you,”
macklin celebrini adds, appearing behind toff with a goofy grin.
“it’s actually kind of gross. but, like, in a good way?”
you blink, a little overwhelmed by the warm welcome.
will slides an arm around your waist and presses a kiss to your temple.
“i told you,” he whispers.
“they’d love you.”
at your table, you sit between will and macklin. across from you are eklund, zetterlund, and a couple of their partners. everyone’s laughing, drinking, picking at their appetizers, but will?
will can’t stop looking at you.
like, physically incapable.
when your hand reaches for your water glass, he covers it with his for a second just to feel your skin.
when you excuse yourself to go to the restroom, he watches you walk away like you’ve taken his entire soul with you.
“she’s gonna be gone for maybe five minutes,” eklund teases.
“relax.”
“i am relaxed,” will lies, adjusting his tie.
“this is my relaxed face.”
macklin whistles. “you’re gone, smitty.”
“absolutely,” will says without hesitation.
“i’d marry her tomorrow if she asked.”
you come back to find will in the middle of describing your homemade lasagna like it’s the eighth wonder of the world.
“i took one bite,” he says seriously,
“and i... i blacked out. when i woke up, i’d done all the dishes and made a playlist called ‘songs that remind me of her.’”
everyone laughs. you shake your head and sit beside him again.
“stop exposing me,” you whisper.
will leans in against your ear. “never. you’re my favorite subject.”
midway through dinner, will clinks his fork against his glass. not loud, but enough to get attention at your table.
“i just wanna say something real quick,” he says, tugging you a little closer to his side.
“i’ve had the best season of my life so far. on the ice, yeah, it’s been amazing. but off the ice? it’s because of her.”
your eyes go wide. “will—”
“she’s smart, she’s funny, she makes the best mac and cheese i’ve ever tasted, sorry, mom, and she loves me even when i forget to change my skate guards before walking across the tile.”
a couple guys snicker. will doesn’t stop.
“i don’t care if this sounds dramatic, but i must’ve saved the whole world in a past life to end up with her in this one.” his voice dips softer.
“she’s everything.”
there’s a beat of stunned silence.
“goddamn, smith,” zetterlund mutters.
“yeah,” toff agrees.
“can’t even roast you after that.”
will beams. “good. that was the goal.”
you cover your face with your hands, overwhelmed and flushed and grinning so hard it hurts. will pulls your hands down gently so he can kiss your cheek.
“you okay?” he whispers.
you nod. “you’re insane.”
“i know,” he said.
“for you? i’d go feral.”
when the night is more calm and champagne is traded for slow dancing, you sway with will on the dance floor, his hands warm and secure around your waist, his smile soft and a little sleepy.
“you know,” he says into your hair, “this wasn’t just a hard launch.”
“no?”
“this was me telling the world,” he says, voice low, “you belong next to me. always.”

Opening night.
Opening night was always nerve racking, being the only woman in the league eyes were always on her, waiting for a mistake to critique or for her to say something or do something wrong. But with her girlfriend here to watch Y/n was more nervous than ever.
“Taylor Swift’s here?” Y/n hadn’t told the guys, other than Toffoli being the same age they clicked easily, it was Luke that asked Y/n but tried to pass it off as saying it to everyone. “Z and Cole will love that.” Jack mumbled to himself, before looking towards Y/n as did most of the other guys.
Tying her skates, trying to mind own business, Y/n mutters out “Why you looking at me?” She knew why they were looking at her. The clip of her saying she tried to give Taylor her number was everywhere. Tyler gave her a look from next to her, a ‘you know why’ look, and at that Y/n mumbles under her breath, “Yeah.”
“‘Yeah’ what?” “You know what.” Dawson was just being a pain, they all knew what.
“She’s my girlfriend.”
-
After no scoring in the first, Y/n was hungry to get a goal and get the game going. Wanting her team to win but also wanting to put on a good game for Taylor. Taylor had been shown on the jumbotron almost anytime Y/n was on the ice, sitting with her family, cheering her girlfriend on, laughing with her mom, and having a couple rules explained by her dad.
Everytime she sat on the bench after a shift, she looked up into the suite Taylor was in, smiling and blush spreading to her checks, not being able to stop the smile from staying on her face until her next shift.
Stepping onto the ice, and getting a pass after the centerline, and skating up the rink. The puck passed through her legs before shooting the puck bardown. The first goal of the game.
After celebrating the goal with her team and when the goal horn ends, the tune of the chorus to ‘You Belong With Me’ plays throughout the area, the jumbotron cut to Taylor jumping and celebrating Y/n’s goal.
-
The game went great, an amazing way to start the season. And after getting undressed, showered and dressed again, Y/n made her way out to the changeroom halls, where Taylor was waiting for her.
Seeing the tall blonde woman, smiling her red lipstick shaping her lips beautifully and making them look so kissable. Y/n had to do just that, running to the woman, and jumping into her arms. Laying a sweet and sensual kiss on her perfect red lips. Her hands holding tge side of Taylor’s neck, pulling her closer.
Y/n, breaking from the kiss to lay her head in her girlfriend's neck, mumbles quietly, “You look gorgeous.” “No you do. And you played great, from what I know.” “Thank you, sweetheart.”
Breaking their hug, Y/n keeps Taylor close, walking under the girl's arm, and her own arm resting on Taylor’s lower back. Walking out together, Y/n raises her head to talk into Taylor’s ear, “I can’t wait to get you home.” Y/n says, her hand lowering to rest on her girlfriend's ass, giving it a little squeeze before bringing said hand back to Taylor’s waist. Loving the woman’s reaction, Taylor laughs, “Baby, I thought we were going to dinner with your team.” “Oh- Do we have to?” “I want to meet them.” She said, still laughing. Causing Y/n to amike loving the sound of her girlfriend, before sighing and saying, “Fine. But remember, they’re a bunch of men in their 20’s they all had childhood crushes on you.” “Well, I love you so they’ll have to come to terms with that."

Having a game last night and one in two days, Y/n fought for one night off, desperately wanting to see her girlfriend on stage before the new year. And so here she was, singing and dancing along to the gorgeous woman, who she couldn't believe she was loved by.
They whole concert was amazing, talking with Andrea and Scott, trading bracelets with fans. Now at the acoustic set Y/n couldn't help but be excited that the concert coming to an end, just wanting to see the woman, kiss her and cuddle her before they had to leave again, and Y/n going back to work.
Not even introducing the song, Taylor starts strumming her guitar and singing 'End game' a smile spreads on Y/n's face, that song was of course for her. And when the song ends, Taylor moves to the piano, playing 'It's time to go' Y/n crying, it had always been her favourite song, for three years, and Taylor remembered.
The bare minimum, to remember things about your partner, yet it was the most she'd ever gotten.
"Karma takes all my friends to the summit."
Y/n was in great anticipation for the final song. Taylor had jokingly said that she would change the lyrics, and the woman couldn't help but be excited at the thought. Of course the two had been in public together, but for Taylor to declare her love on the stage, would definitely make Y/n give her a great 'thank you'.
"Karma is the girl on the ice, coming straight home to me! Karma is my girlfriend!"
The dancers circling Taylor, laugh while dancing aways with shocked faces, no one in the stadium fully grasping the fact Taylor changed lyrics of her song for her girlfriend. As soon as the song ends, Y/n makes her way backstage in order to see Taylor as soon as she finishes her concert.
As soon as her and Taylor make eye contact, Taylor runs towards the girl, both wrapping their arms around each other. Sharing a kiss before Y/n tightens the hug, "You are amazing. Has anyone told you, you have a great voice?"
Laughing, Taylor gives the girl an other kiss, walking Y/n backwards into the tent, out of the way of fans prying eyes.
"I love you." "I love you too." "You sang 'End game', and you sang my favourite song, and you changed lyrics to be about me! You must really like me." "I must."
The singer burrows her head in her girlfriend's neck, leaving small kisses while Y/n continues, "And you looked so beautiful, and your performance was amazing, and 'Vigilante Shit' was so hot." "Oh, really?" "Mhmm."

Nude Beach• t. toffoli
(You and Tyler visit a nude beach)
Warning(s): Smut and Fowl Language
I always wanted to go to one of these
Song Inspired By: Cake By The Ocean by DNCE
Tyler has had ‘nude beach with future wife’ on his bucket list since he was 13 years old when he found out about them, so when he knew he wanted to be with me forever, he showed me.
“Y/n, you can’t be insecure at a nude beach. Literally everyone there is naked.” He says to me, “I know, but I feel like people judge.” I said to him. “Do you wanna go?” He asked.
I stood up, “We’re gonna go, Tyler! It’s been on your bucket list for 16 years.” I said to him and he smiled at me, “Thanks, baby.” He says and kissed my cheek.
“You’re sexy, so no one is gonna judge. I swear to you, princess.” He says to me and slapped ass, “Thank you.” I said in an ‘awe’ tone and he kisses my nose.
He grabbed my hand and we walk into the car, “We’ll get naked when we get there.” He says and I shrugged. “I’d prefer not to get naked at all, but yeah.” I say and he smiled.
“Already said you would!” He says and I chuckled, “I just find it cute that you said you wanted to do this with your further wife and wanted to do it with me.” I smiled.
His hand sits on my thigh and he smiled at me, “I’ll propose soon, babygirl. I swear.” He assured me and I smiled.
“I’m glad. I was getting worried for a while.” I joke and he looks at me with a grin on his face, “Just wait, princess. I have the full thing planned.” He says and I smiled at him.
I ruffle the ends of his hair and put my hand on his, he rubs his thumb on my thigh. “We’re having sex here.” He says to me, “What about other people?” I asked him.
“Other people do it all the time. When I was 13, I saw a bunch of couples fucking.” He says and I shook my head, smiling. “Can we go to a less crowded place if we’re gonna have sex?” I asked him.
He nods, “Anything you want.” He says and then I felt the car stop, showing that we were here. “Ready?” He asked me, “Not really.” I sighed and he chuckled.
“You’re gonna be fine, babe.” He says and we get out, grabbing our towels and chairs, we walk through the sand and saw many naked people. “Don’t look at any other girls.” I said to him.
He laughed, “As long as you don’t look at any other men.” He says to me, “I won’t.” I said and we shook hands, “Deal?” He asked, “Deal.” I say and he laughed.
“We should set up here, babe. No people around except for that couple having sex over there.” He says to me and I nod, “Yeah, yeah. This is fine, perfect even.” I said, feeling less nervous.
We lay our stuff down and slowly strip naked, “Woowee, my babygirl is so sexy.” He says, licking the corner of his lips. “I don’t want any girls looking at your monster cock, so let’s go in the water.” I suggest.
“I’ll race you.” He smirks and I smirk as well, “You’re on, daddy.” I say and we both rub towards the water.
Due to his athleticism, he beat me to the water. “Okay, that’s not fair. I have big tits!” I said to him and he smirks, “Life’s not fair, babygirl.” He winked.
“No. Just my life isn’t fair.” I said and he laughed, before scooping a big handful of water and splashing me in the face with it. “Oh you’re on!” I said and splash him back.
After our big splash war, Tyler decided it was time to have sex on the beach. The sun was setting, the waves were getting louder, and less people were there. It was perfect.
“Okay, babygirl. Life seems so perfect right now, so having sex at a time like this is super special to me. Thank you.” He smiles, I look up at him and nod, “Yeah, you’re welcome. Now, just fuck me.” I order and he chuckled.
His cock runs along my folds and I hold his shoulders with anticipation, “Wrap your legs around me, princess.” He says to me, “Okay, daddy.” I say, before wrapping my legs high upon his back.
“You ready?” He asked, while looking into my brown eyes. “As ready as I’ll ever be.” I said to him, slowly he pushed inside of me.
Gasps leave our mouths and he stays buried balls deep inside of my pussy, “Come on, Ty. Move.” I said and he began thrusting in and out of me, slowly though.
“Oh fuck.” I whine and he kisses my neck, “Shit you are so tight for me.” He groans and starts to speed up a little, the pace he is going is kind of painful, so I tell him.
“Tyler, faster.” I said, he goes faster and sets the pace as we both moan loudly. “Mmm fuck.” I let slip past my pale lips, “You feel so good around me.” He praised and I bit my lip.
He hips buck harder and faster, making my heels press into his back and my toes curl. “Shit.” I moaned and he grabs my throat, pulling me into a slow, passionate kiss.
“I love you.” He moans in my ear, “Oh baby, I love you too.” I said with a sob because my orgasm was right there, “Yes baby, give it to me just like that.” I moaned in his left ear.
His grunts get more frequent, his thrusts get faster and deeper, and his legs are shaking from above me. “Oh shit, I’m gonna cum.” He moaned and I let out a cry.
“I am too, fuck.” I cursed and he put his hand over my mouth, “That was a bit loud, peach.” He says to me and I chuckled. “Sorry.” I whisper, he doesn’t answer but instead kisses me.
About 20 seconds later, we came. My toes curled, my heart was beating, and I was trying to cover my scream.
“Fuck.” He breathed out as he lays on top of me, his cock softened and already slipped out of me. “Yeah, fuck.” I say and he kisses me softly.
He rolls off of me and pushes my hair behind my ears, “You think you can walk to the car for me, princess?” He asked me, “Yeah.” I say and slowly got up, but my legs wobbled.
“Let’s go.” He says holding all our shit and we walk to his Mercedes Benz. I get in the front seat as he puts our things in the trunk, and wait for him to get back.
He opens his door and hops in, my head in leaned back as I’m completely fucked out. “You okay?” He asked me, “Yeah, just tired.” I say and he nods, with a small grin.
“I fucked you out, eh?” He asked and I nod, “Yeah, you did.” I giggled and he puts his hand on my thigh. “Hey, thanks for doing this with me. I know it’s scary at first, but I loved this.” He says to me.
I lazily smile at him, “I had so much fun and maybe we can do this again sometime.” I told him, “Only if you’re up to it.” He smiled and I nod.
“Anything for you.” I say to him. He smiles, ruffle my hair, kisses my lips, and then puts the car in drive. “Go to sleep, love. I’ll carry you in the house.” He says and I nod before falling asleep.

THE MASTERLIST JOIN THE TAGLIST HOCKEY DISCORD
Soulmates. A term used to describe two people who were meant to be with each other. Can be used platonically but more common when referring to romantic relationships.
No-one knows when it began but these days, people were born with a link to their soulmate. There were different links you could have. Marks shared by the two. Person A draws on themselves and it appears on person B. One is singing/listening to a song and the other can hear it. Some have a measure of how much danger their partner is in.
You were born with the pain sharing and matching scars link. Growing up, you’d have random bruises popping up on your body. At random points through the years, you’d feel bursts of pain before the bruises arose. They became more frequent in your later teens and early adulthood. And more painful.
There was one instance in particular that you vividly remember. 7th of November 2019. You were going about your day, teaching one of your grade 10 classes, when you felt something hit you in the face. Your hands flew to your lip. The pain was extensive.
“Miss!” One of the girls shouted as the class watched you hunch over.
“Are you okay?”
You worked up the courage to pull your hands away from your jaw. Blood. And a lot of it. “I–”
“I’m going to get Miss Allen.”
Julie, one of your students, helped you to your desk and handed you the trash can. The pain became too much. Vomiting despite trying to hold it in. Your students whisper, worried about you. The sound of heels rushing to your class made you groan.
“Okay guys,” Lily, your colleague and close friend, called. She clapped her hands to gain the class’ attention. “Can you please make your way next door to Mrs. Harrison’s class. She knows you are coming. Hurry please.”
Lily made her way over to you, towel in hand. You looked up at her. “Hi.”
“Hey, you look like you took a puck to the face,” She jokes.
You hold the towel to your face wound and give her a glare. “Thanks.”
“Let’s get you to the hospital,” Lily states. “I have Hayley covering my class. And Nick is coming to pick up your class.”
15 stitches later and some strong medication helped you push through. That’s the day that won't leave your mind. You now have a permanent scar over your chin and lip that you try to cover daily. Makeup has become your best friend. Since then you have struggled with your self image. Men would cringe away, disgusted, when they saw the scar.
Despite your quite obvious soulmate link, it was years after that event that you had met him. Nikita Zadorov. A Russian NHL defenseman for the Calgary Flames. Six foot five. Brown hair. Chocolate brown eyes.
You moved to Canada to teach recently. Better pay. Calgary to be precise. And one day at the end of the school year, you had to cover for a PE class. You were told it was going to be an easy cover since there were a couple guests coming to talk to the grade 10 group. A couple of hockey players. Sure, you had watched hockey but not to a crazy extent. The class though… excitement. It was all they have been talking about for weeks. God forbid having these students after this period.
“I have your guests here,” One of the office ladies called as she entered the gym.
In walked three guys wearing Calgary Flames merch. You smile, offering your hand and name.
“Tyler Toffoli.”
“Jacob Markstrom.”
Then he stepped forward. I mean it was hard not to notice him. But the first thing that caught your eye was the scar on his jaw. One that happened to match yours. “Nikita Zadorov.”
“Hi…” Before you could shake his hand or say anything else the students started coming in. “Guys come sit down and you’ll get to talk to them at the end of class.”
“And signatures?” One of the boys asked.
“Yes. And signatures.”
You got to sit at the back watching over the students and observing. You needed to find out more about the tall defenseman. Without you noticing either, Zadorov kept glancing at you. The class finally got to question time where they were firing off all types of questions, about hockey, about the team. But one piqued your interest.
“How did you get that scar?” One of the students asked Zadorov.
The man chuckled, “I got a puck to the face back at the start of the 2019-2020 season.”
Thanks to his words, you were thrown back into that memory. The pain. The healing process. You were basically 100% sure he was your soulmate. But there was one way of confirming it. Pain. A pinch to your arm. Nothing too extreme but it was enough to make him jump in surprise. One that you noticed.
The bell rang, indicating the end of the period and the start of lunch. The students finally left, and you went forward to thank them for coming in. They were staying for the last period to talk to another class, but you wouldn’t be covering.
“Thank you for today. The kids loved it,” You hummed. “It was an honour.”
“I don’t want to be annoying, but do you have a scar on your lip?” Toffoli asked.
It caught you out. Too nervous to say anything. “I mean yeah, I got it years ago. Puck to the face. You know the drill.” You didn’t mean to say the puck bit, but you couldn’t think of any other excuse. Bloody Lily and her joke.
“Same as me,” Zadorov smiled.
“Yeah…”
“Soulmates,” Markstrom grinned.
Zadorov pinches himself without you realising. You didn’t jump but you rubbed where he pinched. “You are my soulmate.”
“I think so… That scar hurt by the way.”
Neither of you could believe it. Your soulmate.
“Can I see it?” Zadorov asked shyly. He remembered how badly it hurt. To know you also felt it. God that hurt him more than the actual injury. “The scar I mean.”
You guided him to your class where you could have the conversation in private. The other two dropped off at the staff room for some lunch. You sat down at your desk and pulled out your makeup wipes. Using your phone camera as a mirror, you wiped off your makeup covering the scar.
“May I?”
After agreeing, Zadorov’s hand comes to cup your jaw. Sparks filled your bodies, the soulmate touch. So gentle. Lightly ghosting your skin. His thumb grazed the scar. The dented lines across your lips and down your chin. One scar matching his.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispers, feeling his heart break once more.
When it first happened, he was aware that his soulmate was experiencing this at the same time. The pain accelerated because of this knowledge. Every time he looked in the mirror, he imagined what it would look like on another person. His soulmate. But to finally see it on them, the pain returned. He did this to you.
You smile softly, “It’s okay.”
“15 stitches,” he muttered.
“7th November 2019.”
Zadorov, still cupping your jaw, leaned in. Pressing his forehead to yours. “Tell me about it.”
“I was teaching back in Anchorage. End of the day. A grade 10 class. They’re probably scarred for life. Just feeling that sudden pain, hunching over covering my lip and jaw. But that pain had me vomiting. My friend had to take me to hospital. She even made a joke that it was like I took a puck to the face.”
“Well, you did,” Zadorov offers, “Kind of, anyway.”
Your class door opened and there stood your favourite colleague with Toffoli and Markstrom behind her. “When they said Zadorov had met his soulmate and it was the PE teacher, was a little shocked thinking it was Mr. Paulson for a hot sec.”
“Yes Big Z,” Toffoli grinned, messing with the defenseman’s hair.
Zadorov pushed his teammate away with a roll of his eyes. “Leave us alone.”
“Can’t do sadly, bell is about to go so we have to head to the gym.”
You got an expectant look which made you shake your head. “I’m not covering for the next class. I have one of my own.”
“Can I see you after?” Zadorov asked.
“I hope you’d want to,” You laugh.
“Out of all the soulmate links to have, we have this. But I’m thankful it’s you.”

The Price to Pay | n.jm
pairing: jaemin x fem!reader
summary: when you’re given your dream job, what will happen to you and Jaemin?
warnings: ANGST, bad writing lmao, depression (not specifically mentioned but it’s obviously there), a shit ton of crying, jaemin being kind of an asshole ngl, mentions of hockey (only because there might be some things that don’t make sense idk maybe they do to somebody who doesn’t watch it), VERY INACCURATE INFO ON BECOMING A TRANSLATOR
notes: here’s part 2 to New Beginnings! idk how to link it lmao im sorry im really bad at this also im iffy on how this came out but at this point whatever i wrote a lot. I’m gonna try to do the bold for korean again (cuz new beginnings on the app is fucking jacked af but on the full website it looks how it’s supposed to) but like just assume that everything the OCs are saying are in Korean and whatever the Dreamies say that aren’t to English speaking people are in Korean
“Please put on your seatbelts as we will begin our descent to Los Angeles, California.”
You did as the flight attendant asked and looked out the window. The ground slowly got closer and closer, and your heart raced with excitement. Despite how you’d felt a year ago, you couldn’t wait to land and start the next chapter in your life. You could still feel the exhaustion from it being in the middle of the night in Seoul, but that was so little compared to all the emotions running through your body.
Once you were out of security, you pulled up FaceTime on your phone and called Jisung. It rang and rang, and you almost gave up when he finally answered the call. He was out of breath, as if he’d just run to get his phone. His face lit up when he saw yours.
“Y/N! You landed safely!” he said. Your parents appeared in the frame, which made you smile.
“I did! I’m heading towards pick-up now, so hopefully I’ll be on my way to the rink,” you told them.
You’d decided you wanted to be an English-Korean translator, so you had been hired as a translator for a new NHL prospect. He was born and raised in Korea, and he knew very little English, so you were going to help him during prospect camp, translating and teaching him English. You expected to be in America until September, but if he made it past both prospect and training camp, who knew what your future held?
“Oh honey, I’m so proud of you,” your mom said.
“We both are. You’re gonna do great, we know it,” your dad added.
You looked around and spotted your name on a sign that was held by a man with a driver’s cap. You told your family you had to go and hung up before walking over. He greeted you with a smile and grabbed one of your bags, heading to the parking lot. You shot a text to the boys, letting them know you’d landed. The drive to the rink didn’t take long, and you were escorted by a security guard through the hallways to an office.
“Ms. Park is here,” the security guard announced before heading back to his area.
“Y/N, it’s very nice to meet you. I’m Rob Blake, the general manager,” a very tall man in a suit said. He held his hand out to you, which you shook. “We’re very happy to have you here. Chi-won Han’s translator from last year has a new job, so we’re glad you can stay for longer.”
“Thank you, Mr. Blake. I’m very excited for this opportunity,” you stated with a wide smile. “So, where should we start?”
Mr. Blake’s assistant gave you multiple papers to sign before bringing you to get your ID made. You proudly hung it around your neck, even though your picture looked absolutely horrible (you just got off an eleven-hour flight). Then, Mr. Blake himself brought you to a conference room where the prospect, his agent, and the coaches were.
“Everyone, this is Y/N Park. She will be Chi-won’s translator.”
You bowed and said, “Han Chi-won, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Park Y/N.”
The boy bowed as well. “Thank you for flying here, Y/N. You have to idea how appreciative I am.”
You then introduced yourself to the agent and the coaches, dropping your bags to bow and shake hands. You told them about your exact role and how to contact you in case you were needed last minute. You’d been given a phone for work with everyone’s contacts in it, along with a rental car since you still had a valid driver’s license. You were then handed the keys to your apartment, which you would be sharing with Chi-won and one of the Kings’ players, Tyler Toffoli.
“Y/N, do you own any skates?” Marco Sturm, one of the assistant coaches, asked.
You shook your head. “I’m not very good at skating, but I’ll definitely do my best.”
“Have Tyler and Chi-won take you shopping for a pair. We really need you on the ice for drills.”
You translated for the hockey player when his head perked up at his name. He nodded shyly, his eyes darting to the floor. You couldn’t help but feel bad for him; he had no idea what anyone was saying, so for all he knew you could’ve been talking poorly about him. None of you would do that, but he didn’t know any better.
“Camp doesn’t officially start until tomorrow. We just wanted you to meet before then so that you can get situated. before the madness,” Mr. Blake explained.
“I appreciate that. It’s past midnight in Korea, so I’m pretty exhausted,” you replied.
“You guys are all set for today. We’ll see you bright and early tomorrow for day one.”
You turned to Chi-won and asked, “You wanna get food?”
He nodded vigorously, saying, “Tyler and his wife were making breakfast when I was called down here.”
Grabbing your bags, you said your farewells to the men before heading out, Chi-won hot on your feels. When you clicked the key fob for the rental car, a new SUV lit up. You let out a low whistle and popped the hatch, tossing your suitcases and duffel in. You and Chi-won then climbed in and decided on a local diner. The car ride was mostly silent, the radio playing softly in the background. When you walked into the restaurant, his eyes widened in fear as the waitress spoke to him. You ordered juice for the both of you and then started translating the menu with ease, watching his shoulders relax at the sound of a language he knew.
The two of you ate in silence for a couple minutes, simply enjoying your food. You checked your personal phone for any messages, but there was nothing. You weren’t surprised, though. The boys were supposed to be asleep, so you expected there to be nothing, but it still hurt to see that you hadn’t even heard from Jaemin. Then again, you probably should’ve expected as much.
“What?” Jaemin asked quietly.
You’d shown up at the dorms, wearing one of your boyfriend’s sweatshirts and a pair of shorts. Your hair was a mess from stressing out, so you had the hood up. He had to know what was going on, and you were out of time.
“I’m going back to America,” you repeated. “A major sports team contacted me last month to help one of their prospects. He doesn’t know much English, so I’ll be translating for him during camp.”
“When you do leave?”
“Tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?!” You flinched at the sudden rise of his volume, the sound bouncing off the walls. There was no way the other Dreamies hadn’t heard him. There was no way the other Dreames hadn’t heard him, and you started to panic. This was definitely not how you expected this to go. “You’ve known for a month, and you’re just telling me now?!”
“I was going to tell you sooner, but since you’re working on your comeback, you’ve had to cancel dates! I didn’t have a choice but to tell you now!” you argued.
“Oh, so now it’s my fault?”
“I didn’t say that, Jaemin. I’m just explaining that there wasn’t a good time, so that’s why you aren’t finding out until the day before my flight. I’m sorry it wasn’t sooner.” Your hands were wringing in the kangaroo pocket, but it was hidden by the island in the kitchen.
“How long will you be gone?” When you didn’t answer right away, his jaw clenched. “How long, Y/N?”
Scared by his tone, you said, “I have no idea. Prospect camp is for a few days, but they’re expecting him to continue on to training camp in September.”
“Are you even coming back? What does that mean for us?”
“I don’t know, Jae!” you snapped. Your voice reverberated off the walls, and you could hear shuffling down the hall. “I don’t know.”
There was a heavy pause. He then asked, “You don’t know if you’re coming back? Or you don’t know what will happen with our relationship?”
“Both.”
“You’re very young to be a translator,” Chi-won stated, snapping you out of your thoughts.
You wiped your mouth with a napkin, giving you time to think of your answer without revealing too much. “My step-dad is from Korea. He and my mom got married when I was nine, but he and my step-brother had to stay there while my mom and I live here. We would visit whenever there was a vacation for school, so I learned it over the years.”
“Do you live in Korea now?”
“Right in Seoul. I moved after I graduated high school last year.”
Chi-won was silent after that. After you paid the bill, you plugged in the address for the apartment building and made the quick drive over. Parking along the street, Chi-won grabbed your bags for you and led you to the apartment. You used the key to unlock the door and walked inside. A man and a woman looked over at the same time from the kitchen and smiled.
“You must be the translator. I’m Tyler, and this is my wife, Cat,” the man introduced.
You shook their hands and said, “It’s nice to meet you. My name’s Y/N Park.”
“Come right in. I’ll show you where your room is,” Cat offered.
You followed her down the hallway to a room that had grey walls, dark wooden floors, and a matching wooden dresser. There was a queen-sized bed with fresh sheets on it and a cream armchair in the corner. Identical nightstands stood on either side of the bed, and there was a bathroom attached to the bedroom.
“Make yourself at home. You look like you’re about to fall asleep standing up,” she joked.
“Yeah, I’m gonna take a quick nap, if that’s okay?” you asked.
“Go ahead.”
Cat closed the door behind her, leaving you alone. You collapsed onto the bed and checked to see if any messages had come in before you’d left the diner’s WiFi, but still nothing. Sighing, you put your phone on the nightstand and let your eyes close, the heaviness becoming too much to fight against.
When you woke up, the sun was high in the sky. You groaned as your arms stretched above your head. According to your phone, it was a little past noon, so you rolled out of bed and headed to the kitchen. Luckily, the password to the WiFi was on the refrigerator. As soon as your phone was connected, it started blowing up with messages and snapchats. The sudden sound made you jump, definitely waking you up. You took some time to respond to the boys and your parents, and it took you a few minutes to notice that none of the notifications were from Jaemin. Sighing, you shoved your phone into your pocket and went looking for Chi-won. You found him in his room, looking at an English book with furrowed brows.
“I’m not starting lessons until after prospect camp,” you said.
The boy jumped, clearly unaware of your presence until you announced it. He closed the book and placed it on the nightstand before looking around the room, avoiding your eyes. Sighing, you sat at the desk that was by the window.
“What’s on your mind?” you asked.
“What if I don’t make it past this camp?” he questioned.
You let out a deep breath and said, “Then you go back to your team in Korea, continue to train and practice, and then next year, you’ll come back. The exact same thing as what you went through last year.”
“What will happen to you?”
“I’ll go back home as well. I’m currently under contract with the team, so if you’re not here, I’m not needed. They’ll let me know when I am. You’re stuck with me.”
///
You and Chi-won walked into the practice rink the next morning, a fresh pair of skates in the duffel bag on your shoulder. You’d gone out with Tyler and Chi-won after dinner to buy them, just like Coach Sturm had told you to. The thought of being on the ice with a bunch of hockey players and falling on your ass was terrifying, but you didn’t have much of a choice.
You headed to the weight room and sat on a bench. Skating wouldn’t come until after they were done for the day, so your bag was simply dropped to the floor. You then pulled out your phone and looked at the last message you’d sent to Jaemin.
You: I know you’re upset, but I would love for you to be at the airport tomorrow.
He never showed up. Everyone else had, but he’d stayed at the dorms. The way the conversation had ended left the status of your relationship up in the air, and you were too scared to ask. Your anniversary was supposed to be in a little over a month, but you didn’t even know if that was something to be celebrated anymore.
The sound of the door opening behind you caught your attention. The players started filtering into the room, shooting odd looks your way. You stood up when Chi-won walked in, moving to his side for when the head strength and conditioning coach started talking.
After a speech, the coach came over and introduced himself, apologizing for missing the meeting the day before. When you assured him it was fine, he transitioned the conversation to the first test he wanted Chi-won to run through. You translated everything as you followed them to the bikes, not missing a single beat. You watched as he pedaled and pedaled, sweat dripping down his face as his leg muscles rippled from the rapid movement. You could hear the cheers of encouragement from the other prospects as they watched the others that were running through the tests.
When there was time for a break, Chi-won took the water bottle you handed him, draining it fairly quickly. He then grabbed the towel from your shoulder and wiped his face and neck, tossing it in the hamper in the corner. He looked around at the other prospects, watching them talk and laugh with each other. You felt bad knowing he wouldn’t take that first step. It was understandable, though. You’d gone through the same thing when you started making trips to Korea; you’d been surrounded by people who understood you as much as you understood them, which was not a lot.
After a few minutes, it was time for more testing. You followed the group around the weight room, mostly watching but translating when needed. Everyone’s eyes were on you whenever either of you spoke, but all your attention was on him and whoever was talking to him.
At the end of the day, Chi-won looked like he was about to drop at any moment. You decided to skip the skating and brought him back to the apartment, using the work phone since it could connect to data. He dozed in the car, his face finally relaxed. You’d never noticed how much tension was there until now. Between the stress of getting past this camp and not knowing what anyone was saying, his head was probably spinning.
When you entered the apartment, Chi-won immediately headed to his room to nap. There was a note from Tyler and Cat that they’d gone to run errands, leaving you alone. You tried to FaceTime your parents, but neither of them answered. You knew the others were rehearsing, so you called Mark, but he didn’t answer either. Feeling dejected, you headed to your room and sat in the armchair. You looked out the window and watched the world below, a sudden flashback to the day you and Jaemin were sitting in the mall’s food court. Your heart ached at the thought of one of the happiest days of your life, knowing there was a chance it was all over.
///
It was the last day of the four-day camp for prospects. You wobbled onto the ice as you tried to skate closer to Chi-won. He looked over and rolled his eyes before skating over, grabbing your arm, and dragging you to the group. A few of the players laughed, but you didn’t care. You would be laughing too if you’d seen it.
Yesterday, they’d run drills, so you got to see Chi-won on the ice for the first time, and you could see why he was their first-round pick the year before. However, the true test was the scrimmage scheduled for today. Drills could be run over and over until you got it right, but in a game if you made a mistake there was no going back.
Once the teams were split, Chi-won helped you to the bench. You could hear your personal phone ring with a FaceTime call, but you ignored it. It was most likely Jeno, calling to talk to you before he finally went to bed. He loved to call you before he went to bed, which annoyed Jaemin whenever you were on a call with your boyfriend. You wished you could answer, since you hadn’t had much interaction with anyone. You mostly translated back at the apartment, leaving you craving to talk to someone, but you felt too awkward talking to Tyler and Cat.
The scrimmage was exhilarating to even just watch. Chi-won was fast, despite how large he was. He wove through players, making fantastic plays. His stick work was quick, and he seemed to know where his teammates were, making passes without looking. There was no doubt in your mind that they were keeping him, but seeing the looks on the coaches faces made it that much better. Chi-won played fairly, probably too much; he always passed the puck for a goal instead of taking a chance himself.
During a break, Coach Sturm was going over a couple plays to Chi-won’s team. You translated as fast as you could, trying your best to make it sound clear and right. Hockey pretty much had its own language, so you assumed it was working when he nodded along. As he was about to head back onto the ice, you grabbed his attention.
“Shoot the fucking puck, man. You’ve made plenty of great passes. They want to see what you’re capable of.”
His eyes widened, but he nodded and bumped your held-out fist before skating back to the face-off. You watched the puck drop, and the game was on. Your eyes never left the player you were there for, his form zipping across the ice with a breakaway. He was denied, but you could tell there was a fire lit under his ass. There were still amazing passes, but he was taking shots on goal more. The goalie was just unbelievably good at his job,
There wasn’t much time left in the scrimmage when Chi-won was skating towards the goal, him against two defensemen. His feet moved in a way you couldn’t explain, and he slipped past the opposing players, taking a shot on goal. You nearly jumped with joy as it flew past the goalie’s shoulder, and you didn’t miss the smile on his face as he celebrated with his teammates.
At the end of the day, Chi-won was asked to dinner with some of the other prospects. He nodded his head with a grin, so they told you the restaurant. Your phone connected to the Bluetooth as you were typing it into the map, and “My First and Last” immediately started playing through the speakers. Chi-won sent a look your way but said nothing.
The other players made sure you and Chi-won had seats next to each other so you could easily translate for him. They asked him questions about his life in Korea and his teammates. He talked about his family, his girlfriend Eun-ji, and his friends. You were learning more about him by doing your job rather than conversing with him yourself. You could feel something heavy settle in your chest as they all talked to each other, only looking to you when you translated.
When you were back at the apartment, Chi-won collapsed onto the couch. You sat in an armchair and stared at the ceiling, thoughts of Jaemin running through your head. It’d been five days since you last heard from him, and you were still hesitant to reach out. He was probably in the same boat, but what if he didn’t want to hear from you? What if your relationship was over and you didn’t know it? You hadn’t talked to the other boys about it, not wanting to drag them into your drama.
“You’re thinking too loud,” Chi-won complained.
“Sorry,” you said quietly. “How do you think camp went?”
“I think I did well. My whole body hurts, though. I wish Eun-ji was here. She gives amazing back massages. I would be in constant pain if it wasn’t for her. I’m definitely the luckiest guy in the world.”
That’s what Jaemin tells me. “Is she gonna be starting college this fall?”
He nodded. “She wants to study sports medicine, so she’ll be studying at Seoul University. I’m so proud of her.”
You looked at the time on your phone before realizing that it was your work one. Your personal phone was still in your duffel, which was in the car. Cursing under your breath, you rushed downstairs and grabbed your phone from the bag.
Jaemin💕: 3 missed FaceTime video calls
Shit. Just in case your relationship wasn’t fragile enough, you’d missed three calls from him. It was the first time either one of you had tried reaching out since you stormed out of the dorms in tears. Worried, you headed inside and returned to the apartment as fast as possible. You tried calling Jaemin back, but he wasn’t picking up. It was about ten in the morning where he was, and he never slept in too much no matter what time he’d gone to bed, so you knew he was ignoring you. Trying again, you cursed and swallowed around the lump in your throat. He finally picked up, and he was not happy.
“Hey,” you said as you moved to your room.
“Hey. Where were you?” he asked.
“We were at camp, and then we went to dinner after,” you explained.
His eyebrows raised. “You went to dinner?”
“Yeah.”
“Was it a date?”
Your eyes widened in shock. “What the fuck, Jaemin? Of course it wasn’t a date! Why the hell would you ask that?”
“I mean, you did say you didn’t know how this would affect our relationship,” he snapped.
“That doesn’t mean I would cheat on you. God, do you really think that low of me?” You could feel the sting behind your eyes of tears forming, but you tried to hold them back.
“I don’t know what to think anymore, Y/N. You waited until the day before you were leaving to tell me about it—”
“I didn’t have a choice, and you know it!” you exclaimed. “You know what? I’m done. I can’t do this right now.”
You hung up and threw your phone across the room, muffling sobs into your hands. Being here, having the job you’ve worked towards the past year, it was supposed to be exciting, yet you were dealing with possibly the worst heartbreak yet, and you didn’t even know if there was a relationship to salvage anymore.
Your phone was ringing with a FaceTime call from Jisung, but you ignored it. He couldn’t see you like this; even though you were partially in the wrong in the fight, he would completely lose it and attack Jaemin. You didn’t want to be the cause of something happening to NCT Dream. It would have to stay to yourself, just like everything else about your life.
///
You’d been in America for two weeks, and you were absolutely miserable. You didn’t talk to the boys as much, ignoring some of their calls so that when you did answer, there was too much to talk about for you to think about Jaemin during the calls. You hadn’t talked to him since your last argument, and you didn’t know what to do. Jisung didn’t now, but it was clear he was suspicious of something. You just wanted to go home, but Chi-won had to stay in California for more training and practice. He’d been invited to training camp in September, so it was easier for him to just stay here until he knew his future with the team post-camp.
Chi-won’s English was improving a little, but it was clear he wasn’t confident in himself. Learning a language was hard, and English was one of the most difficult. From conjunctions to words sounding the same but being spelled different to even the sentence structure, you didn’t blame him for feeling self-conscious and frustrated. You had talked to Jisung, and he’d agreed to speak with Chi-won.
“Chi-won, can you come here for a minute?” you called out.
He walked into the living room, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He looked at your phone, jaw dropping when he saw Jisung on the screen. You held it out and said, “My brother wants to talk to you.”
He took the phone, sending a glance your way before looking back at Jisung. You moved to the kitchen to make breakfast, giving the boys some privacy. You could hear Jisung’s laugh through the tiny speaker, and it made your heart ache. Not seeing him every day felt like torture. You were so used to talk to him every day, but the both of you were too busy with your jobs, not to mention that you were still unsure of what the others knew about you and Jaemin.
As you were making some fried eggs, Chi-won joined you, holding your phone out with Jisung still on the screen. The hockey player sent a look that told you there would be a conversation later, and then he disappeared to his room. You looked at Jisung and smiled, asking him how it went. He said it went well, that Chi-won seemed to really listen to what he’d had to say. A door had opened behind him, and Chenle walked into the room. His face lit up when he saw you, and he ran over and jumped on Jisung’s back.
“Y/N! I haven’t talked to you in so long,” he said, suddenly pouting.
“I know, I’m sorry. Prospect camp was crazy, and I’ve been busy with teaching Chi-won English,” you replied. “I wish you guys were here. You’d love it.”
“We’ll have to visit sometime. Jisung, we gotta head to bed. We have practice tomorrow morning,” he said.
“Sleep well, you two,” you said with a smile.
“Love you!” they shouted, and then the call ended.
You finished breakfast and called for Chi-won. He joined you in the kitchen, taking his plate from you without a word. The two of you sat at the breakfast bar, eating in silence. Tyler and Cat were in Canada for a wedding, so you were alone with him. You waited for him to say something, anything, but he didn’t. Instead, he washed the dishes and went back to his room. He returned a few minutes later in workout clothes, so you changed into your own outfit and silently followed him to the gym downstairs. He started out on the bike while you went to the treadmill, starting a light jog.
After a few minutes, Chi-won said, “So, your brother is Park Jisung.”
“Yup. Has been for ten years,” you panted.
“I didn’t even know he had a sister.”
“No one does. It’s too dangerous.”
“That must suck. I can’t imagine keeping my sister a secret,” he said.
“Seeing him live his dream makes it all worth it. Besides, once I’m living here permanently, we’ll be able to tell everyone who I am.”
///
Getting out of bed was harder and harder as each day passed. You could feel yourself settle into a deep and heavy depression. and it seemed like the people you were living with were concerned. You never felt hungry, you were having trouble finding the motivation to shower, and you were ignoring every call that popped up on your phone.
There was a knock on your door before Cat poked her head in. You glanced at her before turning your attention back to the window. She sat in the armchair and leaned on her elbows, sending a smile your way.
“So, Chi-won and Tyler talked to the team, and they decided that if you want, you can go back to Korea until it’s time for training camp,” she told you.
You sat up slowly and asked, “What?”
“We can all tell how homesick you are, and Chi-won said that you had an argument with someone that sounded like your boyfriend. They have a back-up translator, so you can go home for a little bit,” she explained.
“He told you all that?”
“Well, he used an app to translate, but yes.”
Leaping out of bed, you hugged her tightly, mentally thanking yourself for having showered that morning. She laughed and hugged you back before telling you to start packing. You started throwing your things into suitcases and your duffel bag as she left, and tears started streaming down your face in happiness.
You hugged Tyler and Chi-won in thanks before rushing to the airport, not wanting to stay in America any more than you had to. You called your parents and Jisung once you had a ticket purchased, and they promised to keep it a secret. Jisung was practically vibrating in his seat once he heard the news, and you couldn’t wait to hug your family again.
Somehow, you managed to sleep on the flight. When you landed, it was about three in the afternoon. You raced towards your family as soon as you spotted them, leaping into Jisung’s arms. He lifted you up and squeezed tight, as if you would disappear if he let go. You then hugged your parents, not afraid to let the tears fall down your cheeks.
“I missed you guys so much,” you sobbed.
“We missed you too, sweetheart,” you dad said.
When you were home, you took a couple hours to settle in before taking Jisung with you to the dorms. Not only did you have some boys to surprise, but there was a certain boy with blue bangs you needed to speak to. Jisung seemed to be excited to be on the other end of the surprise.
As you walked into the building, your stomach twisted into a giant knot. You didn’t know how Jaemin was going to react. Before you could dwell on it too much, Jisung opened the door to the Dream dorm. Jeno and Haechan were playing video games in the living area, but they stopped immediately when they looked at you.
“Sunshine!” Jeno shouted. He threw the controller on the couch and ran over, scooping you into a bear hug.
“What are you doing here?” Haechan asked as you managed to pry away from Jeno to hug him.
“They let me come back home until training camp starts,” you explained. “Where are the others?”
“They’re in their rooms. Jaemin’s napping, but Renjun and Chenle are playing PUBG,” Jeno explained. “It’s good to have you back. Jaemin’s been moping every since you left.”
So they didn’t know. “I’ll go see Renjun and Chenle first. Jaemin must be really tired if he’s napping.”
You walked down the hallway and quietly stepped into Renjun and Chenle’s room. They were too busy looking at their phones to notice, so you sat by Renjun and asked how he was doing. He glanced at you and then did a double take before tackling you to the bed. Chenle complained, but when he looked up a screech left his mouth instead as he piled on top. They started asking you a bunch of questions at once, but you shushed them and explained why you were home. Chenle didn’t want to let go, but you explained that Jaemin didn’t know yet.
Jaemin looked so peaceful as he slept. You could just stand there and watch until he woke up, but the conversation needed to be had sooner than later. Quietly closing the door, you walked over and sat on the bed as gentle as possible. Your fingers carded through his hair, pushing it away from his forehead. He sighed in his sleep, melting under your touch. You called out his name lightly, but he didn’t stir. You tried a couple more times, and his eyes finally opened. He stared at you for about ten seconds before grabbing you. You were suddenly thrown on the bed, and he pinned your arms down before kissing you.
Kissing Jaemin felt like a dream, especially after what you two’d been going through the past few weeks. He pressed kiss after kiss to your lips, finally pulling away with a frown.
"I’m really sorry for how I acted the past couple times we talked. I trust you, and I support your career,” he said.
“I forgive you. God, I forgive you. I’ve been so miserable the past few weeks. I should’ve tried harder to tell you sooner than when I had.”
“Let’s just forget this, okay?”
“Deal.”
He leaned down to press your lips together again, not leaving any space between your bodies. He trailed kisses down your neck, sucking a mark into your skin at the base of your throat. When he moved back to your face, he whispered, “I love you.”
That was the first time either of you had ever said those words. Whenever the two of you were together, there was a good chance another Dreamie was with you, so actual dates were rare, which meant that neither of you felt like it was the right time to say them. However, the past three weeks, had proven that it didn’t matter how much time was spent alone.
“I love you too.”
It was about half an hour before you two emerged from the room. The others made fun of the hickeys that were all over your necks, but in that moment you didn’t care. You and Jaemin were more than okay, and that was all that mattered to you.

April 23, 2023
Clementine walked into the Devils locker room before they had practice and she had a box in her hands, she walked over to Alex’s stall dropping the box in front of him.
“What’s this?” Alex looked up at Clementine and looked back down at the box.
“For you.” Clementine leaned on the wall, “Go on open it.” Clementine watched as he open the box revealing a pair of Ugg slippers.
“So you stop stealing mine.” Clementine teased her teammate, always having her Ugg’s slippers stolen by Alex, who loves them.
Alex looked at the slippers and couldn’t understand why suddenly his heart was beating so fast and his palms were getting sweaty and suddenly the room felt really hot, “Thank you Clem.” Alex tried to smile at her.
“Are you alright?” Clementine’s face changed into concern as she looked at her friend in worry.
“Yeah sorry it’s just little hot.” Alex lied quickly feeling himself flush, and as he looked into Clementine beautiful different colored eyes and he could feel himself realized exactly why he’s feeling this way.
“Okay if you’re sure….” Clementine reluctantly agreed and turned around and headed over to her stall.
Alex let his head fall down with a groan muttering, “Shit.” He has a crush on his teammate and friend.

summary: best way to start a new year ? a new years kiss.
request: “Can I kiss you?" "You know you don't have to ask me anymore, right?"
will smith x reader

Will’s thumb was mindlessly rubbing softly circles on her shoulder as she was leaning into his side from where they were sitting next to each other on one of the couches in the Toffoli house.
Macklin was sitting across from the couple, who have both grown to be two of his closest friends over the past few months. Macklin has became their permanent third wheel and no matter how much Will complains they both love having Macklin around so much.
Her head dropped as she laughed, her shoulders shaking with laughter at Macklin’s comment. Will scoffed out at a laugh his eyes staying on his girlfriend as she laughed.
“Come on it was funny Smitty!” Macklin complained seeing Will only laugh a little bit.
She laughed even more at Macklin’s pouty face and Will’s smirk.
“You’re not funny Mack.” Will just smirked teasing Macklin.
She fondly rolled her eyes at Will’s teasing, “Mack is very funny.”
Her words made Will shoot her a betrayed look and she just smiled.
Macklin laughed smugly giving a beaming smile at her, “And this is why you’re my favorite.”
Will shrugged softly because fair, she’s his favorite too.
Will glanced at his watch and stood up after seeing it was almost the New Year and he would like to kiss his girlfriend in private.
Will held out his hand for her and helped her stand up off the couch.
“You’re leaving me alone.” Macklin dramatically pouted at his friends.
“Celly i don’t think you want to watch me kiss my girlfriend.” Will raised an eyebrow at the younger boy.
“Eh yeah no i’m good.” Macklin shook his head, that’s like thinking about his sister kissing someone.
“And this is why you need a girlfriend Mack.” Will patted Macklin’s shoulder softly as they walked by him. Macklin just groaned at his words.
Will intertwined their hands as he pulled her softly through the house and past his teammates and towards the small side patio Tyler and Cat have, that Will knew no one would go on to see their fireworks.
Will wrapped his arms around her waist once they got outside as her arms came around his neck, her fingers gently tangling in his blonde curls.
They both heard the countdown started and looked at each other softly.
"Can I kiss you?" She whispered softly giving him a mischievous grin.
Will shook his head softly laughing softly at her teasing, “You know you don't have to ask me that anymore." They have been dating for years now and she always teases him by asking that.
“That’s no fun.” She playfully pouted giggling softly.
Will shook his head fondly and his hand slide up to cup her face gently and kissed her as the fireworks started going off.
Will hummed softly as they slowly pulled away and she gently tugged on his curls, his forehead rested on her forehead, “Happy New Years baby.”
“Happy New Years.” She softly whispered back smiling at her favorite person before glancing up in awe seeing the gold fireworks covering the sky.
Will just looked at her in awe as the gold fireworks made her entire face glow and he pressed a kiss to her cheek.
Will smiled to himself that he gets another year with her and this is his favorite way to start a new year, getting to kiss her.
