MusicBee is my new music manager.
No account, no AI, no suggestion horseshit, just a music manager that can sync to generic mp3 players. Lovely collection of built in skins as a bonus, and you can actually look at the artists' web page summaries and discographies from it, which is helpful because I was always running to Wikipedia for album lists and album art when I used iTunes.
It even let me import my iTunes library directly, so there was no heavy lifting needed.
And right now as I'm typing this, I just remembered that I have Megas XLR and Moonlight purchased through iTunes, so I still have to keep it installed if I want to preserve those two old shows goddammit, because the files have drm and won't play on any other software.

Itâs hard to underestimate the valuable impact of digital transformation on the healthcare industry. With a variety of tech solutions used by practitioners and their patients, medical services have become not just more accessible, but also more accurate and effective. In this article, we are going to provide you with some useful information about marketplace platforms and their positive impact on healthcare. And for sure, offer some mind-blowing examples of how such solutions can be used on a brilliant example of an Uber-like app for doctors developed by a trusted technology partner and software development company Emerline. Marketplace Platform: IntroductionTo start with, letâs define a marketplace platform to create a clear picture of what it is and why healthcare providers may need it. Wikipedia defines a marketplace platform as a type of e-commerce site where product or service information is provided by multiple third parties. Itâs also mentioned that such solutions can âstreamline the production process.âIn other words, marketplace platforms serve as a facilitator of exchanges between buyers and sellers. But thatâs not all. The thing to mention here is that rentals, exchanges, negotiations, auctions, and other forms of interactions are also covered by these solutions. At the same time, interactions may involve a variety of members, including individuals, products, locations, projects, etc. To put it all together, marketplace platforms can find their way to any business that deals with customers and vendor relationships, including healthcare companies which are the focus of this article. How To Use Marketplace Platform in Healthcare? While there are still a lot of concerns about the Coronavirus outbreak and we still live in the world where the pandemic dictates its rules, regular healthcare-related issues havenât disappeared, and when (hopefully soon), the number of infected with COVID people get to a minimum, there still be a need in the optimization of healthcare. As any service providers, representatives of the healthcare industry will have to continue the competition, trying to find the golden mean between expectations of their customers and the cost of the services on offer. And considering the fact that today customers can get nearly anything in two clicks, this model will also be required in healthcare. Allowing to eliminate excessive services and pitfalls, crash the barriers within the organization, and increase customer satisfaction, a marketplace platform can serve as a great solution. So letâs look at some bright examples of how it can be used. Health InsuranceWhen people want to ensure their well-being, get extra confidence in tomorrow, and keep anxiety associated with costs of medical services under control, generally, they choose insurance as a solution. But, as you know, insurance plans largely vary, and sometimes, choosing the best option is not as simple as it may seem at first, especially when taking into account the need in compliance with the regional healthcare reforms.Having a marketplace platform at hand, healthcare industry players can achieve a private insurance model which implies that there will be an intermediary between a healthcare company and its customers - an insurance provider. Furthermore, the companyâs customers will be able to get exceptionally fast and accurate service, as the platform will automatically determine the best insurance plan for every individual in a few seconds, as well as allow them to avoid unnecessary fuss around the transactions. TelehealthThe pandemic situation has resulted in a huge rise in telehealth services and it can be assumed that the tendency to use technologies for the provision of health information and services will rather remain at the same level or continue to increase. And hereâs where marketplace platforms can come into play, offering the ability for remote healthcare services for people with chronic illnesses (remote management and those who need post-hospitalization support.
Also, marketplace platforms can be leveraged to schools for healthcare purposes, allowing students to get immediate consultation on their health in case they are feeling unwell. One more branch covered is preventive care. âUberâ Model Leveraged to HealthcareFollowing the same Uber scheme (schedule the ride - accept the price- receive information about the car and the driver), marketplace platforms can be used in healthcare to ensure extra convenience in service delivery. As we promised, there's a real-life example of such a solution developed by a software provider Emerline, itâs an Uber-like app for doctors that now allows its owner to outperform competitors by offering quick and easy-to-access medical service delivery.Itâs a healthcare system for doctors that consists of a web app, mobile app, and custom EMR system with a user-friendly online editor for documents. And itâs not just an ordinary healthcare solution be the one adapted to the current epidemic situation. The product ensures the convenience of work for medical professionals and eases of use for patients requiring prompt medical help or Covid test. While the software provider is in the continuous process of the solutionâs enhancement, even today it offers the client a range of competitive business benefits:Users of the app receive medical help in the shortest time, in the convenience of their homes and the simplicity of a mobile solution, together contributing to greater levels of loyalty and trust among patients. The convenience of the delivered system also positively impacts retention rates among the clientâs employees.Group requests allow receiving large orders. For example, it could be a wedding, corporate event, banquet, etc., where guests are required to provide a negative RT-PCR test. The client can receive fees for the use of the app by third-party providers that operate in other states. The developed custom EMR system with an easy-to-use custom document editor can also be sold as a stand-alone solution to third-party providers. You can learn more about the app, its features, and the process of development here. Supply AggregationBecause healthcare is not just about diagnostics and treatment, marketplace platforms can also be used as a means to gather other services offered by different providers (in different spheres) in one place, from teeth whitening procedures and beauty injections to birthmark removal treatments. For sure, this will contribute to a significant increase in customer satisfaction as there will be no more need in searching for the service and its provider for hours. Within a marketplace platform, a customer will be able to see a variety of service offerings with all the important details, whether it is location, price, providerâs experience, or rank. Sounds great, right? Sounds great, right? Want some examples? You are welcome to explore Emerline's portfolio!Bottom LineAs you can see, companies that leverage marketplace platforms to their businesses and enjoy a great bunch of competitive benefits. With a growing demand for the digitalization of services, including those related to healthcare, quite soon there will be no questions like âimplement or not to implement. So, if you have a business connected to healthcare and think about the possible way of getting a competitive edge, consider a marketplace platform as the solution. But make sure to choose a reliable software provider with a proven track record of service delivery.

How to Teach with Technology
SOCIAL SOFTWARE
social software is a type of software or web service that allows people to communicate and collaborate while using the application. E-mail, blogs, instant messaging, and wikis are all examples of social software. Most teachers in todayâs schools were not surrounded by technology growing up. The speed of these technologies has been developed, meaning that it is a daunting task for many to catch up with their students. The difference in the ease of use of technology between students and teachers is quite apparent now.
Blogs in Language Teaching
Blogging is writing your thoughts into your blog, and the "blogosphere," a term coined by William Quick (2001), is the "intellectual cyberspace" that bloggers (i.e., those who blog) occupy. There are different types of blogs based on the purpose of their creation. The class blog is an example of blogs made by one class. An edublog is a blog that is used in education. A tutor blog is a blog set up and maintained by a teacher. A student blog is a blog set up and maintained by a student/learner. A blog can contain video or audio, which does not make it different than any other blog
Wikis in Language Teaching
A wiki is more dynamic because it can have more than one author. Unlike a blog, a wiki is not linear. Pages can be linked back and forth as we like. The most popular example of a wiki is the Wikipedia. Based on its nature, a wiki is more appropriate for collaborative writing.
Podcasts in Language Teaching
Podcast is a Web-based audio broadcast via an RSS feed, accessed by subscription over the Internet. The podcast is like a radio or TV show, but we can watch or listen on a topic that interests us. It can also be downloaded to our computer or iPod. podcasts can be used to improve the learnersâ listening skills . It is when the podcast was made by lecturers in order for students who missed the class can download the course, and catch up their study.

On creating a wiki for your worldbuilding
Do you have a lot of lore to keep track of? Whether you're an author, a Game Master, or simply someone who really really likes worldbuilding, this post is for you.
Here's a quick overview of what I'll be talking about:
Platforms people use to create personal wikis
Formats and organization systems you may find useful when creating your own wiki
A brief look at the actual content you might put in your wiki (I'm planning a more in-depth post on that later with more images and demos)
And because this is gonna be a long'un, I'm putting a read-more here! I'll also make downloadable epub and PDF versions of this post available for free on my Ko-Fi at some point in the future.
(I'm also planning to reblog with a list of links later on, but I want this initial post shows up in search)
Also now that you're here, I'm going to say this isn't, like, super comprehensive or anything. I'm just talking about stuff I know a little about or have experience with. Please feel free to reblog with additions and/or corrections as needed!
What is a wiki?
According to Wikipedia, "a wiki is a hypertext publication collaboratively edited and managed by its own audience, using a web browser."
In this case, you'll likely be the sole person making updates to your wiki. The web browser part is optional these days as well, as you'll soon see.
Platforms for creating wikis
Websites for creating worldbuilding wikis
WorldAnvil
This one is actually designed for people who want to create big worldbuilding wikis.
Pros: Worldbuilding prompts! Those are great. It's got a pretty comprehensive set of article types too.
Cons: Kind of expensive to upgrade for features like making your wiki private, and it does NOT work well with adblock turned on, so if you don't want to pay for a membership you'll get inundated with ads. I'm not a huge fan of the interface in general and a lot of it isn't intuitive, but I like what they're doing so I support them anyway.
---
Tiddlywiki/Tiddlyhost.com.
In addition to having a cat as its icon and also a silly name, each 'article' you create with this is called a 'tiddler' which makes me think of Chuck Tingle. I haven't used it much myself yet, but I did make an account and it seems pretty neat.
---
Miraheze
A community-hosted wiki platform that runs on MediaWiki (which is what Wikipedia runs off of).
Pros: It's not Fandom.com.
Cons: You have to request a wiki and can't just make it yourself, as far as I can tell. I haven't actually looked into this one as much.
---
Neocities
An option for if you want to go super oldschool and create a website using only basic html and hyperlinks (without the handy shortcuts of bbcode or Markdown). Monthly cost is $5 usd if you want to have more space and your own domain.
Pros: 100% control over your content.
Cons: Doesn't support PHP databases for wiki software, and can be fairly labour-intensive to update if you break a link or something.
---
Fandom.com
Unfortunately, this one is the top result you'll get when you look up how to make your own wiki. I'm only including it here to tell you to stay as far away from it as possible!!
Its staff are known to ban wiki creators from their own wikis and a bunch of other nonsense that I'm not getting into here.
Programs and apps/web apps for creating worldbuilding wikis
Obsidian.md
My personal favourite. I'm planning to make a whole post about how I use it in the near future as part of this article series.
It's a markdown-based application that you can get on just about any platform (Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS, Android, etc) which is great. Obsidian is really easy to pick up and use and also has great themes and community plugins!
Best thing is, it's FREE and you only have to pay if you use their publishing service, which... I don't, so.
---
Notion
I've heard this one is pretty good too. Idk if it costs anything. It's another "second brain" style app (might be markdown also?) and I think it might do more than Obsidian, but I haven't checked it out much myself.
---
Microsoft Word/Google Docs etc.
...Or just about any word processor that lets you create internal hyperlinks. Word may work best due to the collapsible headings so it doesn't get too unwieldy, but *shrug* whatever floats your boat.
---
Excel/Google Sheets etc.
Or, again, any spreadsheet creator that lets you create internal hyperlinks.
I'd recommend having some basic spreadsheet knowledge before doing this. It could get complicated. Before I started using Obsidian, I was using Sheets to keep track of my glossary, notes about characters, and plot ideas.
Types of formatting & organization systems
There are as many organization systems as there are people who want to organize their stuff. Everybody needs something a little different! I find the ones that work best for me are systems that have a lot of customization options.
Here are a couple I know of.
Johnny Decimal
This system is absurdly simple in its concept and yet so versatile. From their website (it's just johnnydecimal dot com but I'll link it in a reblog later):
Take everything you need to organise and sort it in to, at most, ten large buckets.
Make sure the buckets are unambiguously different.
Put a label on each bucket.
Their website has a better explanation than I can give in this post, but I'll sum up the appeal of this system as quoted from their site: "There's only one place anything can ever be."
Usefully, part of this method is creating a directory for the rest of the system.
So if you're like me and tend to shove things wherever only to lose track of it later, this is a great systemâespecially when used in conjunction with the Zettelkasten Method (see below).
---
Zettelkasten Method
Originally devised as an extensive paper-based knowledge management system, Zettelkasten is meant to easily add new entries to a knowledge base while giving each one a unique ID for easy 'linking.'
The creator of this method said 'it is not important where you place the note, as long as you can link to it.'
As with the Johnny Decimal system, I can't explain it super succinctly (nor can the website, if I'm being honest), so I'll include a link in a future reblog for a video that gave me an excellent run-down of the basics.
Setting up your own system
An organization system is only useful if you can actually, y'know, use it.
It can be fun to set up a super-detailed organization system with predetermined categories for everything, but is it easy for you to use? How will you navigate it?
Making decisions
There will be a lot of decisions to make as you set up your system. The only set-in-stone rule I follow is... don't set anything in stone. It's okay if you decide something that doesn't work later on.
Figuring out your categories
My advice: go fairly broad. You can always sub-categorize. I'm going to go over my own wikis for Athenaeum and Rocket Boosters in detail in a later post, but here are the starting top-level categories I'd recommend for worldbuilders:
A meta category for notes about your database, templates, and any relevant research you've done.
Characters, including main characters, minor characters, and important figures
Worldbuilding
In the last category, which is the main reason for the existence of my wiki, I might have:
Culture
History
Locations
Organizations
Lore (if relevant)
Technology
Transportation
I'll go over the nuances of these 'main' subcategories in that future post I mentioned. In other words, the stuff that actually goes in those categories!
Determining the importance and relevance of worldbuilding elements
You'll need to figure out whether a topic is complex enough to deserve its own entry, or if it should be a sub-heading under another entry. It's okay if you decide on both! I have short subheadings under some entries that amount to "see [link to main entry on that topic]."
I've also decided to expand subheadings into their own topics, and I've removed topics as their own entry and shoved them under subheadings. I do this a lot, in fact! So it's okay if you don't know.
Templates
Will you be creating several of one type of entry?
Individual character profiles
Towns and cities
Factions
(to name a few)
It might be handy to figure out the basic types of information you'll need about each of those things and create a template for them.
A character template might have spaces for the basics, such as name, role, age, and so on.
Some characters will have a lot more information, and some might have even less than what your template dictates! And that's fine.
A word of warning about using system-creation as procrastination
Creating a wiki can be a daunting task. You might decide it's not for you, and that's okay. But you might also decide to go headlong into the process and work on every minute detail, and that is also okay, but.
But.
Beware of using your wiki as an excuse to procrastinate your actual writing/session preparation. Yes, use it to keep track of all the lore you've injected into your manuscript/campaign/whatever, just make sure it stays in its place as a companion to your main project rather than becoming your main project.
How formal should your entries be?
Honestly this one's entirely up to you. I have a mix. Some entries are written like Wikipedia entries with a thorough explanation of the topic with proper punctuation and formatting, while others are simply bullet-point lists of thoughts and ideas that I can return to at a later date.
What methods do you use to keep track of your lore and worldbuilding? Let me know in a reblog or comment!
And please make sure to check the notes. I'll be reblogging with links, and then reblogging that reblog to make sure they're, y'know, actually visible in the notes.

Torrenting 101
I've been meaning to make a post like this for a long while, but the recent removal of many shows from streaming platforms prompted me to finally get it done.
This is a long post, so check out the TL;DR at the end if you don't have the spoons to read the whole thing
What is "torrenting"?
From Wikipedia: "BitTorrent is a communication protocol for peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P), which enables users to distribute data and electronic files over the Internet in a decentralized manner."
In layman's terms: When you're torrenting something, you are connecting to other people who have the file you want, and downloading it from them. This does mean that if few people have the file you want, the download may take a very long time. (I've been stuck at 41% of an anime OST for almost 2 years now) BUT it also means that if many people have the file you want, the download may be completed in just a handful of minutes.
This manner of downloading files also allows you to stop the download at any point and then simply resume it later, whereas downloading through a browser often requires you stay connected the whole time, or else have to start over.
Why torrent instead of streaming?
Permanent availability: once you've torrented a file, it's on your computer. This means you can watch it any time you want without worrying about your internet connection crapping out, or the streaming platform suddenly deciding to pull your favourite show.
Torrenting sites also generally don't ask you to make an account just so you can access files, and they usually don't make you click on a bunch of links that pop out ads - all things I've had to deal with on many streaming sites (much to my annoyance).
Also torrents are free.
How torrent? Much confused
In order to torrent, you'll need a BitTorrent client. Your search engine of choice can give you tons of sites with suggestions, but my personal favourite is Transmission. It works on MacOs and Windows (and Linux distros), and is very simple and easy to use. (You can get it here: https://transmissionbt.com/)
In order to find torrents to download, you simply go to a torrenting website (or you can search "Supernatural season 1 torrent" on your search engine of choice). The ones I use the most are rarbgmirror.org (good for TV shows and films) and nyaa.si (good for anime). But there are tons more.
Safety
Any time you download a file off the internet, there is a risk of downloading malware. Before opening any file you've downloaded, you should make sure it's safe to open. Check whether the file extension matches the expected filetype. For example, a video file should end with .mkv, .mp4, .avi or other file extension used for video files. Music files will usually end with .mp3, .ogg, .aac, or .flac. If you're unsure what filetype a file extension is for, you can look it up here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_formats.
On Windows, you need to look out for any file that ends with .exe. .exe are executable file types; in other words, programs/apps. Now to be clear; a file that ends with .exe isn't necessarily malware. Your browser app's file name ends with .exe. Your art program's filename ends with .exe. All .exe files aren't malware. But if you're downloading an episode of a show, and the file name is the.owl.house.s02e20.exe, don't open that bitch.
If you're on MacOs (or a Linux distro), you don't need to worry about .exe, because those files won't be able to run.
Checking file types: By default, file extensions are often hidden in most systems, because most users don't care/need to know them. You can see the full file name in your BitTorrent client, or you can right-click a file in the File Explorer/Finder and click "Properties"/"Get Info".
As a rule, I don't download software, because avoiding malware is much harder with those. So I can't give much advice on how to do so safely, except to use virustotal.com, which checks for malware in the file/link you feed it. It is generally reliable, though it can turn up false negatives (and false positives). I'm not responsible for any malware you get while trying to play Dragon Age for free.
Sidenote: Some torrent file folders will have an .exe with a name like "RARBG_DO_NOT_MIRROR.exe". Those aren't malware, they're not even proper executables. They are just there to prevent mirroring to other sites.
On a different note, please make sure you have an adblocker installed before going on a torrenting site, particularly if you are a minor. Some of them have explicit ads.
Legality
Downloading copyrighted files is completely illegal in most places, while in some places, only sharing files to download (aka 'seeding' if you're using a BitTorrent client) is illegal. Check your local legislation, deactivate seeding in your torrenting client if necessary. Sail the high seas at your own risk.
VPNs: a friend wisely suggested I mention VPNs here. VPNs may protect you from legal consequences of torrenting, but that is only if the VPN company is one that will not give your data to the authorities when asked, so choose your VPN wisely. I don't use one, so once again I cannot give specific advice on this topic, but https://www.privacyguides.org/vpn/ may help you choose a VPN.
TL;DR
Install Transmission via their website.
Find torrents on one of many torrenting sites such as rarbgmirror.org or nyaa.si.
Click on "download torrent" or "magnet" or corresponding icon
Open With Transmission
Do not open any file that ends in .exe.
Run any games/software you've downloaded through virustotal.com before opening/launching them
Et voilĂ , you can watch Infinity Train as many times as you want.
Final Note
Please remember to support indie artists whenever possible - they have bills to pay, same as you. đ
#torrenting#piracy#torrents#streaming#computer stuff#internet stuff#feel free to add any suggestions to this post#if you have questions you can add them as a comment reblog or in a reply since my asks are closed#and ill try to answer to the best of my ability#scheduled post

While it wonât get you access to every article, youâre guaranteed to at least be able to read Forbes, The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, and WIRED.
2. End an annoying call
Rather than hanging up, put your phone on airplane mode. The person youâre talking to will see âcall failedâ as opposed to âcall ended.â
Bonus points if you do this while youâre the one talking.
3. Find free software that's not malware
When typing whatever it is youâre looking for into Google, replace âfreeâ with âopen source.â
Alternatively, check out Osalt or AlternativeTo.
4. Sign up for multiple trials
For the payment card: If you ever get a prepaid debit card, donât use up every single dollar on it. Leave a few bucks and use it to sign up for a free trial (some companies verify cards by withdrawing a dollar or two and then refunding it immediately).
For the email address: If you have a Gmail account, add the + sign and then random words and numbers after your email address. All emails will still arrive at your actual email address.
5. Get more vitamin D
If you eat mushrooms, expose them to the sun before you cook them. That way, they will produce vitamin D. No, weâre not making this up. Apparently, itâs science.
6. Get a less complicated version of Wikipedia
Replace the âenâ in Wikipedia with âsimple.â
For example, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi becomes https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi.
So it goes from:
âThe number Ï (/paÉȘ/; spelled out as "pi") is a mathematical constant, approximately equal to 3.14159. It is defined in Euclidean geometry[a] as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and also has various equivalent definitions.â
to:
âThe number Ï (/paÉȘ/) is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. This produces a number, and that number is always the same.â
Notice how the latter definition is less detailed and easier to read.
Although this trick doesnât work on all Wikipedia pages, most do have a much simpler version.
7. Clean a burnt pot
Donât scrub it! Instead, boil some water in the pot over the stove.
Doing so should soften the burnt bit, and if it doesnât, repeat the process, but this time, also add some baking soda into the boiling water.
8. Answer the door when you're not feeling sociable
Put on your coat before answering the door.
If it turns out itâs someone you like and want to hang out with, tell them you just got home from somewhere and were just about to take off your coat.
On the other hand, if itâs someone you donât particularly like or donât want to spend time with, tell them youâre just leaving.
9. Make a difficult life choice
Rather than asking yourself, âWill this make me happy?â ask yourself, âWill this choice enlarge or diminish me?â

So, re: the Josh Duggar (fuck him to infinity and beyond) stuff: I donât know if anyone else is following his arrest, but he had a bond hearing last week, and someone who was able to attend the hearing (via Zoom, of course) did a really great write-up of the details on Reddit and provided a lot of helpful links, so I was following that thread. The hearing of course went into more detail regarding his alleged crimes, and Iâll put that under a cut. Note that Iâm not going into graphic detail, for one because itâs not necessary to do so to talk about how serious this is, and for two because I donât know it. Based on the way people were tiptoeing around actual descriptions of the images he possessed, I knew that was a google rabbit hole even I couldnât go down. I sincerely urge you not to google it; many people described reading the Wikipedia article about a notorious piece of child sexual abuse material that was on his computer and feeling nauseated, despite the fact that the article didnât go into super explicit detail. Donât do it for morbid curiosity; even IâM not that self-punishing.
He had an internet accountability program on his computer called Covenant Eyes which is a sort of family internet filter that monitors activity to keep your kids (or husband in this case) from seeing anything inappropriate. I would assume this was on Joshâs computer because if I remember correctly, either before or around the time of the Ashley Madison scandal, there was some Jesus kerfuffle over him viewing porn. A sex worker also came forward to say that he assaulted her during a paid sexual encounter, so Iâm sure the family had Good Christian concerns about how his proclivities were tarnishing their reputation. (Not concerns about their daughters literally getting molested, of course; but that was their fault for being girls.) This was a personal work laptop that Iâm sure their kids didnât have access to, so this was probably specifically meant to monitor him.Â
He also had disc partitioning software on his computer, which enables you to run multiple operating systems at once. There are plenty of legit reasons to do this; you can use it for gaming or IT purposes, and Iâm sure plenty of other things as well. In addition to this, however, he had a dark web browser, so any defense he tries to mount that argues these got on his computer accidentally while he was viewing regular porn isnât going to fly; he very clearly went looking for this, and took steps to cover his tracks. Partitioning or accessing the dark web apparently do not require someone to have super advanced computer skills, but they DO require some research; neither is something that accidentally happens by clicking on the wrong link. Â
Investigators found over 200 images (and one video) of child sexual abuse media that were downloaded and deleted in just one day. Offenders often have loads and loads of images, so the speculation is that there are probably many more, but these are the images they have an airtight case for, i.e. they can prove absolutely that Josh himself was the one who downloaded and accessed these images, since digital crimes can be a bit trickier to prove since a lawyer can argue that a clientâs computer may have been used, but it was not the client themselves engaging in the illegal activity. He also might have been extraordinarily unlucky and got caught his first time doing this, or (and what I unfortunately suspect), heâs been doing it for a while, deleting/moving the images elsewhere, and some activity caught the eyes of the Feds somehow or possibly someone turned him in. (There is some speculation that one of his brothers reported him; one of them worked at the same car lot that was raided, and reportedly came home very shaken one day not long before the raid. He also was very quiet on social media and didnât defend Josh, nor comment on the raid, which some people are speculating is due to the fact that heâs involved in the investigation. This is, again, speculation, and I donât know how accurate or likely any of it is.) Itâs also possible that, due to the nature of some of the material he downloaded, which is apparently a piece of child sexual assault media notorious for being the worst of the worst, he was flagged by Feds monitoring that particular piece of media, and got caught that way.
I listen and watch quite a bit of true crime media, and I had never heard of this before, but apparently the video he downloaded was part of a series that was once considered an urban legend, because it was so over-the-top vile. People realized it was real when the man who produced it was arrested. Iâm going to caution you again here: do NOT google this. Iâve seen lots of posters on reddit reporting that they felt sick just from reading fairly non-specific descriptions of what the video contains. It involved a 11-year-old, an 18-month-old, and a third child whose age I canât recall. (And Iâm not going to go looking for it, because in reading up on this case I started stumbling across people being a little free with their descriptions of the images, without any warning, so Iâve taken a break from looking at that to avoid running across knowledge I donât want to have.)
One of the investigators who testified said it was one of the top five worst of the worst cases that heâs seen, and these investigators work lots of theses type of cases. The film mentioned above involves actual torture of the children involved; the 11-year-old was murdered. Itâs a little unclear how much media he had relating to this film, but he had a two minute video clip which I believe was from the film; I donât know if there were any still images. Regardless, as bad as ânormalâ child sexual assault media is, he was in possession of some incredibly violent material against children that had seasoned special agents remarking on the severity of it.Â
Heâs a dangerous sexual predator; this is beyond even pedophilia--this seems to be straight up sadism.Â

Why Investing in Cryptocurrency Is Safe & An Ideal Way To Invest
Cryptocurrency is the money in the financial world that is not typically printed like currency. A virtual currency is created to function as a medium of international exchange whereby in exchange for a certain currency other entity will pay you in another currency. In most cases, the value of this virtual currency is entirely determined by the market movements and by the supply and demand of that particular currency. This is what makes it valuable. A good example of a cryptocalm would be the gold or silver coins.
The basic model of how Cryptocurrency works is the following: there is a collection of currencies, and a central authority which may be called by the issuer. These currencies are normally backed by physical assets. In some cases, the assets backing the Cryptocurrency are backed by promises of payment made by the issuer. When you make a transaction, say you want to buy a cup of coffee with your virtual money, then the money is digitally altered into the equivalent asset in the local currency of whatever place you are making the purchase in. Thus, when the time comes to pay for the cup of coffee, you will have the choice of paying for it either in your local currency, or the virtual equivalent.
The system definition of Cryptocurrency has changed in recent years, therefore changing the way people interact with it. Basically, the system defines the number of units that can be bought or sold and the accounting system is established through a ledger system. The ledger system is controlled by a central administrator who is known as the issuer. A new Cryptocurrency unit is created by anyone, usually called a holder or a trader who wishes to issue that Cryptocurrency to new customers.
Nowadays there are two kinds of Cryptocurrencies - the first is known as "fiat Cryptocurrency". As its name suggests, such Cryptocurrency does not represent any asset or legal tender but rather it is merely a unit of account. Fiat Cryptocurrency such as the US Dollar is always backed up by actual physical gold or real assets. The second kind of Cryptocurrency is called token Cryptocurrency. Such Cryptocurrency normally has no physical attributes of its own apart from a unique coding system and a set number of coins. Some examples of token Cryptocurrencies are tokens issued by virtual businesses such as eBay or the tokens issued by the governments of several countries.
One of the most prominent characteristics of token Cryptocurrency is that they are traded on the Internet with the use of an open-source software platform. This characteristic makes them highly convenient to use. The primary reason why most people choose to use Cryptocurrency as their unit of account is because it is open-source software which guarantees high security and also high privacy. With such qualities, the appeal of Cryptocurrency as a means of payment is greatly increased.
But why should people opt to use Cryptocurrency instead of traditional money? One of the major advantages of Cryptocurrency is its mobility. Unlike most traditional commodities, Cryptocurrency is not produced in bulk quantities. The supply is limited to the number of computers which can be accessed at any given moment. As such, the supply cannot be controlled like the production of gold or silver. Because of this feature, Cryptocurrency is considered to be very safe compared to other commodities such as gold and silver.
Another advantage of Cryptocurrency is the fact that unlike paper money, it is decentralized - that is, there is no central bank that controls it. Because of this feature, Cryptocurrency never faces a situation of hyper-inflation. This is one of the major reasons why investors prefer to invest in Cryptocurrency rather than traditional commodities such as gold and silver.
In order for investors and traders to gain from Cryptocurrency, it is imperative that they know how Cryptocurrency works. Luckily, there are many websites that offer complete information on the mechanics of Cryptocurrency. Some of these websites include: Wikipedia, Cryptome, and Geeksonomics. In addition to knowing how Cryptocurrency works, investors also need to know when to buy, when to sell, and what type of exchanges will be available when using Cryptocurrency. By consulting with these websites and learning about the characteristics of each type of Cryptocurrency - Litecoin for example, investors can become well informed about when to buy and sell.

Iconic Personalitiesđ- Featured & Helped by Different Types of Media

Hello everyone! Itâs Kathleen Heleina M. Eusebio, a student from National University Fairview. In our Media and Information Literacy class, we are tasked to have a research about three iconic or famous personalities in the field of accounting, business, and management who have been featured in print, broadcast, and new media. For this blog, I will first make a short introduction about these three iconic or famous personalities in the field of accounting, business, and management, so that weâll get to know them first before proceeding to the questions that we are asked to answer in this blog.
In the field of accounting, I found Luca Pacioli, the father of accounting. âHis 1494 publication of Everything about Arithmetic, Geometry, and Proportions book and double-entry accounting book are considered as two of his greatest contributions in accounting. He also introduced the use of journals and ledgers in accounting systems and said that the accountant must not sleep until the debits are equaled to credits. The ledgers he introduced were based on assets receivables and inventories, liabilities, capital, expenditure and income accounts. His contributions are still use in modern accounting.â (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/luca-pacioli-father-accounting-tusharkumar-rathod)
In the field of business, I found Bill Gates, who is hailed as one of the richest men in the world based on Forbes. âEntrepreneur and businessman Bill Gates and his business partner Paul Allen founded and built the world's largest software business, Microsoft, through technological innovation, keen business strategy and aggressive business tactics. In the process, Gates became one of the richest men in the world.â (https://www.biography.com/business-figure/bill-gates)
In the field of management, I found Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Company. In our Organization and Management Class, Henry ford is said to be one of the contributors of Scientific Management Theory. He was also the first one to install the assembly line. âHenry Ford and other manufacturers fueled the American economy by improving productivity. They also raised standards of living by creating more high-paying jobs. It is important to highlight the fact that Ford employed a concept that revolved around mass production of inexpensive goods and high wages for workers ." (https://www.biography.com/business-figure/bill-gates)        Â
The father of accounting, Luca Pacioli, was featured in new media. In order for me to compare and contrast the way Luca Pacioli was featured in new media to other types of media, I search for the biography of Luca Pacioli and I also look for two different websites which are LinkedIn written by Tushar Rathod, a trustworthy accountant with four years of experience in finance and accounts, and Wikipedia. The founder of the Ford Motor Company, Henry Ford, was featured in print media, the Time magazine, but he also had his own magazine, the Ford Times magazine which has variety of topics that also includes the article "Assimilation through Education". The co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates, was featured in broadcast media, he has a three-part Netflix docuseries titled Inside Billâs Brain: Decoding Bill Gates. Â
After searching for these iconic personalities in the field of Accounting, Business, & Management, and find out what type of media they are featured, I finally have ideas on how am I going to compare and contrast how they are featured in each media type. When I search for Luca Pacioli, I found LinkedIn and Wikipedia, there are differences because in Wikipedia, it is said that the book that was published that made him recognized as the father of accounting is all about double-entry bookkeeping, while in LinkedIn, it is said that it is all about double-entry accounting. It has different information that we donât even know what is reliable or not, so I check the authorâs credentials and chose to believe in LinkedIn because the authorâs credentials are there, he is a trustworthy accountant with four years of experience in finance and accounts, while in Wikipedia anyone can revise it. Thatâs how Luca Pacioli differs from other types of media when he was featured in new media considering that in print media and broadcast media, in order for a work to be published or showed, they have a lot of process and credible sources should be there, while in new media anyone can share their work and information without putting any credentials and credible sources. In terms of being reliable and accurate, new media has the least reliability and accuracy. When I search for Henry Ford, I saw that he became the cover of Time Magazine, the information is limited because you need to buy the magazine to get all the information that is written on it. I search again for a magazine where Henry Ford was featured and there I saw Ford Times magazine but again, there is limited information, the only thing that is written there is the summary of what does the magazine contain. I still look for other print media where Henry Ford was featured, and I saw a newspaper article about how he introduced the assembly line. I think thatâs how Henry Ford differs from other types of media when he was featured in print media, you need to pay first before getting all the information unless itâs given for free, while in new and broadcast media, there are only selected sites where you need to pay. In print media, you have the hard copy or the physical object where the information is written or printed so you can keep it, while in new and broadcast media, you can only see the information through a screen or hear it in a radio. When I search for Bill Gates, I saw that he has a docuseries in Netflix that shows the basics of Gatesâ life: his childhood, education, Microsoft stewardship, marriage to his wife Melinda, and the charitable foundation they co-manage. I realize here that when it comes to entertainment, broadcast media is better than other types of media because people will be more interested and pleased when they see moving pictures. People will further understand the life of Bill Gates because they can see the emotions of the characters in docuseries, unlike in print media and new media, we have different interpretations of words and sentences.
Although Luca Pacioli was featured in New Media, he showed his knowledge and skills by the use of print media. In 1494, he published his own books about double-entry accounting system and Everything about Arithmetic, Geometry, and Proportions. His publication of a book that described the double-entry accounting made him recognize as the father of accounting. Because of his use of print media, the systems that he wrote in his book are still use in modern accounting. A lot of accountants are still using journals and ledgers, but were improve because of the technology that we have in our generation, the use of digital technologies, also called as new media. In a docuseries of Netflix titled Inside Billâs Brain, it shows how Bill Gates and his friend Paul Allen used new media to build their own company, Microsoft, that makes computer software. In 1978, their sales topped more than $1 million because of their use of new media. Microsoft Corporation said that technology is a powerful force for good and are working to foster a sustainable future where everyone has access to the benefits and opportunities created by technology.  Although he didnât own the Microsoft Corporation anymore, Bill Gates and his wife have Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where they bring computers and digital information to the communities they serve, so that they can provide technical training and support for library staffs in low-income communities and they are also excited to help libraries ensure that children and adults from all walks of life will have access to the wealth of information and understanding that computers and digital information make possible. In June 1915, the first Ford Time magazine was released. It has monthly publication where you can see commercial product, meant to promote Ford automotive products, the overarching theme was to get out and see our country by car. It helped Henry Ford to advertise his automotive products through his magazine, the magazine also includes the article "Assimilation through Education" that explains why Ford saw it necessary for employees to learn English. Aside from Ford Times magazine and Time magazine, Henry Ford was also featured in a newspaper. By the use of newspaper or print media, one of the greatest innovations of Henry Ford had been featured, the assembly line. It has shaped the industrial world so strongly that businesses that did not adopt the practice soon became extinct, and it was one of the key factors that helped integrate the automobile into American society.
No matter what type of media we have, we should be a media and information literate. We are responsible in sharing and getting information. We must know if the information that we share or get is reliable and accurate. As a responsible producer and consumer of information, we should be skillful in showing and making informed judgement.

ENGL 295 Week 10:Â Digital Dualism and Abstinence
The article by Joe Edelman "Can software be good for us?" argues that many social media platforms, mainly Facebook, causes people's values to be at risk because of the restrictive apps they choose to use. Â One of the examples of a less restrictive app to compare Facebook to Wikipedia. Â However, comparing Wikipedia to Facebook is not a comparable example.
One of the biggest differences between Facebook and Wikipedia is an individual identity. Â Both platforms are similar because they encourage participatory culture and content creation on their websites but they are done very differently. Â Facebook's content creation is done in a very public manner and attaches the individual identity to the content. Â This also creates a public accountability for the individual for their content. Â Wikipedia does not have any public accountability. Â To create content on Wikipedia, you still need an account, but the public has no idea what content you have created or edited. Â
The lack of public accountability has long helped to maintain the websites less appealing reputation because the casual viewer has no verification of the information and cannot hold anyone accountable other than the faceless website. Â Facebook, on the other hand, shows you exactly who posted what and you can look into the individual. Â Due to this different types of accountability, I would argue that Facebook holds more values then Wikipedia because the public accountability holds more sway over keeping people honest and does not provide the safety net of amenity that Wikipedia operates under.
How do you think Facebook and Wikipedia compare as social networking sites?

Decade
DECADE â the 2010s
âIt was the best of decades, it was the worst of decadesâŠâ â with apologies to Charles Dickens for that shameless paraphrasing of his famous opening line of A Tale of Two Cities. But a most appropriate description I think. Why? Well on one hand youâve got the invention of the IPAD in 2010, the successful landing of the Mars-exploring Curiosity vehicle in 2011 (took it 3 years to find any water, though!), the invention of the self-driving car, fantastic developments in medicine with drugs to combat AIDS, advances in genome modelling, real advances in AI, etc. and on the other hand youâve got Donald Trump, BoJo, Brexit, zero hours employment contracts and food banks, as well as war, pestilence and death. Not to mention fake news.
Wikipedia lists 40 major terrorist attacks on civilian populations from 2010 âtil now (there were more â only 40 are listed), 16 civil wars, 11 coup dâĂ©tats and in contrast 5 successfully negotiated international peace treaties.
The global population suffered from a plethora of man-made and natural disasters â both types arguably costing more in human lives than couldâve been the case, resulting from a mixture of governmental and corporate negligence. I suggest the Grenfell fire in 2017 where 72 people died as a prime example of the former and the Savar factory building collapse in Dhaka in 2013 resulting in 1129 deaths for the latter.
In the photographic world, Iâm not aware of any new inventions per se. Mirrorless cameras were invented by Epson in the 2000s. Â Development of DSLRs and mirrorless cameras has clearly transpired, as has the software programmes required to manipulate and optimise the digital images captured. Nevertheless the sales figures for digital cameras in 2015 were 25% of what they were in 2010. Â (Source Wikipedia). Â What there has been is a massive rise in is the increase of smartphone sales which of course contain increasingly sophisticated camera systems. The more recent Huawei phones have Leica lenses and the latest iPhones contain 3 lenses to allow different perspective shots to be taken at the same time.
However, âThe Next Revolution in Photography is Comingâ, according to Stephen Mayes (Times Magazine 25/08/2015) where he states that âitâs time to stop thinking about photography. Itâs not that photography is deadâŠ.but itâs goneâ.  The article proposes that we have to think about photography in a completely different manner to previously, taking account of all developments in technology currently underway, or risk isolating ourselves in an historical backwater of communication using an interesting but quaint visual language removed from the cultural mainstream. The articles goes on to say that just as boys and girls become men and women, photography has passed puberty during the transformation from analogue to digital technology, and that digital capture has severed the optical connection with reality, the relationship that defined our understanding of photography since itâs invention more than 160 years ago.  Another viewpoint expressed in the article by âdigital commentatorâ Kevin Connor suggests that computational photography should be considered as a shift from using the camera as a picture making device to using it as a data-collecting device. Maybe it wasnât intended, but I personally thought this comment sounded cold and emotionless. It just sounds too dystopian, like Brave New World and 1984 rolled into one.  I totally reject that concept.
The articles finishes up by comparing the digital revolution in photography from analogue to that of the Cubist movement in painting, where new representations of the world around us were presented (by Picasso, Braque and Gris et al) in deconstructed and reconstructed forms.
For me, the above comparisons work on some levels but not on all. Â Cubism in art did not replace more conventional forms of expression on the painted canvas, but stood alongside. Â The art world, photography included, is a broad church. Â Photography has every right, not just to paraphrase, but to quote Mark Twain, and clearly state that ârumours of my death are greatly exaggerated.â

Approximate Release Month: June 1993 Genre: Adventure/educational Developer: The Software Toolworks Publisher: The Software Toolworks
Mario Is Missing! is notable for several reasons â itâs a Mario game not made by Nintendo, and itâs Luigiâs first starring role â but the biggest might be that it is a reasonably well-done educational game.
Uh oh, Mario Is Missing! Bowser has kidnapped him and locked him away in his Antarctic castle, and itâs up to Luigi and Yoshi to rescue him by traveling the world and recovering lost real-world landmarks and artifacts. Yes, Mario Is Missing! takes place on Earth, and itâs odd seeing the Super Mario World graphical and musical styles applied to places like Rome and Beijing. The map of Earth done with the 16-bit look is neat, though!
The gameplay loop is simple: Bowserâs castle serves as the hub, and each door takes Luigi to a different, unknown place on Earth. In each location, you have three tasks: find and return the three artifacts that have been stolen by Koopa Troopas, figure out what city you are in, and then return to Bowserâs castle. You find the artifacts by stomping on the Koopas, and you learn information from talking to the same people that happen to be in each city. You use this information to answer a little quiz when you return the item. Return all the items, summon Yoshi with the, uh, âGlobulatorâ, a giant world map where you select the location youâre in, and exit back to Bowserâs castle.
youtube
Rinse. Repeat.
Mario Is Missing! is still an edutainment game (made by The Software Toolworks, the same people who did Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing) and should be graded on such a curve. No, moving Luigi around San Francisco doesnât feel close to as good as moving Mario around Dinosaur Island in Super Mario World. Itâs also a bummer how Luigi is yet to get an original design in his first solo game*! Heâs just green Mario here. Itâs disrespectful.
But when I compare Mario Is Missing! to a game like Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?, though, I feel more positive. Thereâs no ticking timer here, and you can explore and make mistakes at your leisure. The Wikipedia-opening-paragraph amount of information you get for each artifact is a good amount of information without dipping into minutiae. And itâs not just history or trivia questions; adding geography puzzles with Yoshiâs Globulator is a welcome extra dimension. This game is where I, as a child, learned that Italy is shaped like a boot!
If you are reading this, you shouldnât play Mario Is Missing! Itâs not for you. It is tedious and tough to play for more than a level at a time. Itâs not just a cash-in, though, and it lets people play at their own pace. If you know an elementary school-aged child of a certain reading level, itâs not a bad choice, even today.
* Luigiâs Hammer Toss does not count. Donât @ me.
Next time: With the holidays and the busy season at my day job coming up, donât expect weekly updates for a few months. Keep an eye on the SNES A Day account on Twitter for updates. The classic co-op shooter Pocky & Rocky is next, though, so you have that to look forward to!
