Life truly is radiant, according to an experiment conducted by researchers from the University of Calgary and the National Research Council of Canada. An extraordinary experiment on mice and leaves from two different plant species has uncovered direct physical evidence of an eerie 'biophoton' phenomenon ceasing on death, suggesting all living things – including humans – could literally glow with health, until we don't. The findings might seem a little fringe at first glance. It's hard not to associate scientific investigations into biological electromagnetic emissions with debunked and paranormal claims of auras and discharges surrounding living organisms.

カルガリー大学の研究チームはこの生命の光を観察するために、光子(フォトン)の1つ1つを捉えることができる超高性能カメラで、4匹のマウスを、生きているときと死後、それぞれ1時間ずつかけて撮影した。
 すると生きているマウスでは、はっきりとした光が確認された一方、死んだマウスではその光が急速に失われ、部分的にしか残らないことが明らかになった。
 この光はいったい何なのか?
 研究チームのダン・オブラック氏は、「超微弱光子放出」が実在する現象であるという事実は、今や動かしようがありません」と語る。
 この光は「超微弱光子(Ultraweak Photon Emission:UPE)」は、「バイオフォトン」とも呼ばれ、すでに何十年にわたる研究があるという。
 ただし生きた細胞レベルの光が捉えられたことはあっても、全身レベルでその発光が観察されたのは、今回が初めてとのことだ。

 このことから、バイオフォトンは代謝やエネルギー変動に関係しているだろうことがうかがえる。これについて、オブラック氏らは論文でこう説明する。
生きたマウスは強い超微弱光子(UPE)放出があり、そこで起きている生物学的プロセスや細胞活動を示している可能性が高い
一方、死んだマウスのUPEはほぼ消失し、生前のマウスで見られたより明るい部分が、”明るい斑点”としてわずかに残される。これは代謝やエネルギー変動の停止を反映している
この画像を大きなサイズで見る 動物だけではなく植物も光っていた  さらにオブラック博士らは、同様の現象が植物でも見られるかを確かめるため、観葉植物として知られる、「ヤドリフカノキ(Heptapleurum arboricola)を使った実験も行った。
 この植物に傷をつけたり、アルコール(イソプロパノール)や過酸化水素(H₂O₂)、鎮痛成分のベンゾカインなどを与えたりすると、UPEの放出が一気に増加した。
 これは植物が“ダメージを受けた”というサインを光で発していることを意味している。
 さらに、UPEの強さは温度にも影響され、高温ではより多くの光子が放出されるという。

 こうしたバイオフォトンの特徴を利用すれば、体に傷をつけることなく人間や動物の健康状態を診断できる可能性があるという。
 さらに、植物の健康や成長状態をモニタリングする非侵襲的な手法として、農業や植物生理学への応用が期待できる。

So it was discovered that all living things emit a light (an aura) that usually can't be seen. And that light goes out when the body dies.
It's on a molecular level and caused by what scientists are calling bio photons. That just means light particles in living organisms.

Ultraweak photon emission, also known as biophotons, was first detected by (probably Ukranian & Jewish, I don't have solid sources) Scientist Alexander Gurwitsch in 1923 in the Soviet Union. He named it Mitogenic Radiation and theorized it was related to a Morphogenic Field concept, that was used to explain how the early stages of an embryo shaped itself into a body with distinct body parts.

All living things, including humans, constantly emit a ghostly glow – and it appears to vanish almost as soon as we die. Monitoring this signal could one day help track forest health or even detect diseases in people.
The existence of this barely perceptible glow has been controversial, but it is thought to be the result of a process called ultraweak photon emission. Mitochondria and other energy-producing machinery in our cells involve molecules gaining and losing energy, in turn emitting the equivalent of a few photons a second per square centimetre of skin tissue.
However, these “biophotons” are extremely difficult to detect and disentangle from other biological processes or light sources, such as the radiation produced by any warm object.
Now, Dan Oblak at the University of Calgary in Canada and his colleagues have isolated what happens to these biophotons when an animal dies, imaging ultraweak photon emission across an entire mouse before and after its death.
