I finally found the Japanese version of the Unending Codex, which is cutely just named
Tumblr media
Which roughly translates to (My favorite Travelogue).
In there, the entry goes...
Tumblr media
And I must say my Japanese is as amateurish as it can be, but after asking around and going through some other translations, the Japanese version does not mention any mundane tasks either.
However, it clarifies that the Miqo'te were oppressed by the Allagans and sent to Corvos as laborers. This later became the G tribe, who, following the fall of the Allagan Empire, both safeguarded and studied the Allagan legacy. The situation changed dramatically when Corvos came under Garlean rule. The Darnus family sought knowledge of the Allagans, and G'raha's family passed the knowledge of the Allagans and the last heir of the "Crimson Eye", G'raha, to the Sharlayan Organisation, the Baldesion. Then it says "After that" G'raha became a Sharlayan and devoted himself to research, eventually "attaining the rank of a sage/wise one", which in here means he became an Archon thanks to his research into the Allagan Civilization.
Other funny notes is that the Allagan Eye is called the
- The "Royal Eye" is called 皇血の魔眼, which is the "Demon Eye of the Imperial Blood" which is kind of metal. - It is specifically said that it was Biggs III and a "group of people with him" who found G'raha. However, there is no mention of Biggs III having inherited Ironworks or even being its leader. - Also clarifies G'raha not only merged himself to the Crystal Tower, he made himself into its terminal, gaining immortality and power. - He was called the 水晶公, which simply translates to the "Crystal Lord", or even "Crystal Prince/duke/official". So, yeah, Lord.
Interesting, to say the least. However, do note that my translations are rough and not necessarily 100% correct. Someone who knows Japanese better than I do, I welcome all and any corrections.
G'raha Tia's Childhood Woes.
I've further discussed this topic with a friend - if anyone has any further information (please, no headcanons.) feel free to add more to the discussion, but this is what we know so far in lieu of this previous post.

I agree so much with you that Solas is an active detriment to the Dragon age setting. I am replaying Origins, and my incredibly hot take is that Solas recycles a significant amount of Keeper Zathrian's character, in order to create a more "epic" scale narrative that imo is also much weaker and messier than the original Zathrian to the overall scope of the world and to player engagement.
They're both bald magic elves who have been alive for absurd lengths of time, and who are convinced of their own righteousness even when their actions cause or will cause great and unending harm to those around them. At least with Zathrian his "optimal" narrative path (whatever that may be to the player) isn't gated off behind playing a straight woman, my Tabris can butch out with Leliana all I want and still access all modes of narrative engagement with Zathrian, and the Dalish within the Zathrian quest are granted legitimacy and dignity in their beliefs.
I am not a fan of the reveal that the Dalish gods were functionally just powerful mages, it's so obviously a plot beat written by a certain type of atheist who don't see how anyone could have faith in a greater force, or have curiosity about that mode of moving through the world, which is made even sillier when the setting has dragons and ghosts and stuff. Its so similar to the type of story that takes greek/norse/egyptian gods and re-imagines them as regular guys, functionally wizards, in an urban fantasy setting, wanting the power and drama but shedding the belief systems that go along with the gods, and what those systems do and mean to people. There's so much awe and wonder and hope in the codex entries in the Origins Dalish camp - are these gods gone for good, can they ever return and can the Dalish ever go home either with or without their gods' presence? What do the gods mean to a people who have suffered so much and safeguard those pieces of divinity that remain in stories and song and crafts? What might these echoes of distant gods mean to the city elves, so far removed from what once was but still cherishing the traditions they do have? But no, the Dalish were fools for their tattoos and their beliefs, and all the history and remembrances Zathrian kept and passed on to his people was false. What an idiot. Who even remembers that guy?
Anyways, you don't have to post my anonymous tirade, I just am a huge fan of one (1) bald elf so deep in guilt and tragedy and the weight of history that he is either blind to the harm he may cause, or so secure in his pride and belief in his own righteousness that he chooses to close his eyes to that harm. And that elf is not Solas.
i always giggle when i get to zathrian because he's so obviously prototype solas.
and despite his situation, zathrian's goals feel mostly grounded, we see him amongst the clan and understand his dynamics with the people around him. it's kind of impossible to fully grasp solas' whole deal because it's so hypothetical, all these things happened offscreen to characters with incomprehensible power who may have just been spirits at the time anyway. who give a shit...
and i agree with the religion thing but i'd say i always read dai and dav's handling of religion more as being liberal christianism than overzealous atheism. i wrote this post about dai, and i think dav only made it more true:
Tumblr media
there's so little exploration of religious practices in dalish culture, dai at least does a little bit with those few sidequests, but dalish clans in dav are something just distantly spoken about and never fully explained. and this is in a game ABOUT the dalish gods. how is bellara saying (over and over again) "our gods are back!!! D:" supposed to hit when we don't know what significance the gods actually have? 😑 they had something really interesting in origins and da2, but it just feels like any other contextless fantasy pantheon now

The Vein of Truth
Characters: Valta, Paragon Aeducan, Original Dwarven Character(s) Fandom: Dragon Age Rating: G Other Tags: Codex Entry, Dwarven History, Orzammar, House Saelac, House Aeducan Summary: A review of three differing, contemporary accounts of Paragon Aeducan. Read here on AO3.
From the research notes of Shaper Valta.
I was a girl when my father first took me to the Hall of Heroes. He told me the stories of our honoured ancestors: of Paragon Caridin and his noble inventions; of Paragon Lynchcar and his venerated poems; and of Paragon Aeducan. However, the deeds of our most noteworthy Paragon, the sire of kings and warriors, are too great to be summed up in a few pithy words. My father asked that I lift my eyes to our vaulted ceilings, to gaze upon Orzammar’s people, and to contemplate his name. He told me that I owed him my life.
At the time, I could not fully appreciate the enormity of what he did. Death is closer for those of us who dwell with the Stone than most; its armies wage an unending assault upon our kingdom, but it was still a faraway threat to me at that age.
I know better, now. It is because of the decisions made by Paragon Aeducan ages ago that I am here to challenge him and his legacy.
Here is my work for @dragonageannual 2025! Thank you so much for allowing me to participate and lend my voice to this project. As always, the art and writing are stunning!

starter for @extravagantmuse for elleana
after retelling of the codex entry: Vir Dirthara: Duel of a Hundred Years
The way that a form shifts from the fuzzy edges of unending and unbridled darkness into the brightest of burning flames speaks more of the unstable grounds where flesh and empire was precariously built on.
It is in the tremor with each step, the dull crackling of stone under weight and heat as the blood of the earth boils within the veins of a living God whose pride has been touched for one time to many. The flesh made red, a reminder that even Gods can bleed too.
“Walk with me.” is not a request from the God-King but a warning.
They had won but Elgar’nan knew what shape the early seeds of discord and rebellion looked like. The pulling and pushing of a thread to attempt and graps at how much could be done. How much power to be grabbed. Mythal could not see it beyond the love to these misshapen and insubordinate children. The fact that she could not see how it helped no one that they should see him fight with anyone much less one of the Twins whose very nature was one that was half formed. An infestation of snakes grew just outside Her temple’s doors and she ignored them. One day they would drip poison from their fangs straight into her mouth and she would claim it to be wine.
All this did was show that the All Mother saw Falon’din’s grasp and overreach as an acceptable thing to bring to court. For now, Falon’din’s champion lay dead to become food to the vermin that the Friend of the Dead had claimed as their domain. For now.
The shadow grows darker and the air around them so dry it could crack skin. Single circles of pure light move from the path they had so intensely focused on to the figure that followed him. Shoulders straightening the man that is himself a mountain towers over it all
“And what do you think, Vunora?” the voice barely a rumble that came from a breach of light “About the All-Mother’s rulling?”

rereading shtola’s unending codex entry and the forum collectively decided to send her to matoya. which is still really funny to me bc i think at that point matoya had already made a weapon so dangerous the forum banned it and she was mad so she sealed it in gubal. and then they were like here is this seven year old girl you didn’t ask for.

Thinking about this from Zenos's unending codex entry:
Yet in embracing his stolen power, Zenos had rewritten his fate. His essence did not return to the Lifestream, but instead possessed the body of another. In a cycle akin to that of the immortal Ascians, the erstwhile prince leaped from vessel to vessel, until he found one with which he could return home to Garlemald. There he was reunited with his original form, which had been occupied for a time by the Ascian Elidibus, and was thus resurrected body and soul.
Because the phrasing on it sounds like it was not something he did willingly? Like he is just unable to go to the lifestream and needed to find another body? When he's first seen in that random elezen body he makes a comment on how he was given a second chance which also implies to me that it was not something he did himself but rather something that just happened to him.
A friend brought up how Fordola has the resonant (though a less powerful iteration of it) and how this implies she might also be undying because of it. And then just now it occurred to me this would also apply to Misija.
so now I'm not just having conspiracy theories in my mind about how Zenos can still live, but ALSO how Misija can still live 👀

Is the lineup of the unending codex like...the main characters of the main story that you need to keep track of or does it actually get updated as you play the game?

Whispers from the Crucible Veil: A Tale of Rot and Ruin
Tumblr media
Ah, wanderers of this shadowed archive, gather close, for the Codex has unveiled yet another blighted tale. Rot and Ruin in the Crucible Veil—a story steeped in decay, where the boundaries of mortal resolve and the insidious touch of corruption clash upon a battlefield of unending despair. What would you do if the veil between life and death offered no salvation, only the promise of endless ruin? What secrets lie within the fetid ruins of the Crucible, and what grim fates await those who dare tread its poisoned soil?
These are questions not easily answered, but the tale weaves them with the stench of inevitability and the faintest glimmer of defiance.Dare to delve deeper? Uncover the truths rotting within the Crucible Veil and judge for yourself. But beware—once these words take root, their blight may never leave you. Read, if you dare, and let the tale speak its truth to you.

Codex entry: The Maker
"There was no word For heaven or for earth, for sea or sky. All that existed was silence. Then the Voice of the Maker rang out, The first Word, And His Word became all that might be: Dream and idea, hope and fear, Endless possibilities. And from it made his firstborn. And he said to them: In My image I forge you, To you I give dominion Over all that exists. By your will May all things be done.
Then in the center of heaven He called forth A city with towers of gold, streets with music for cobblestones, And banners which flew without wind. There, He dwelled, waiting To see the wonders His children would create.
The children of the Maker gathered Before his golden throne And sang hymns of praise unending. But their songs Were the songs of the cobblestones. They shone with the golden light Reflected from the Maker's throne. They held forth the banners That flew on their own.
And the Voice of the Maker shook the Fade Saying: In My image I have wrought My firstborn. You have been given dominion Over all that exists. By your will All things are done. Yet you do nothing. The realm I have given you Is formless, ever-changing.
And He knew he had wrought amiss. So the Maker turned from his firstborn And took from the Fade A measure of its living flesh And placed it apart from the Spirits, and spoke to it, saying: Here, I decree Opposition in all things: For earth, sky For winter, summer For darkness, Light. By My Will alone is Balance sundered And the world given new life.
And no longer was it formless, ever-changing, But held fast, immutable, With Words for heaven and for earth, sea and sky. At last did the Maker From the living world Make men. Immutable, as the substance of the earth, With souls made of dream and idea, hope and fear, Endless possibilities.
Then the Maker said: To you, my second-born, I grant this gift: In your heart shall burn An unquenchable flame All-consuming, and never satisfied. From the Fade I crafted you, And to the Fade you shall return Each night in dreams That you may always remember me.
And then the Maker sealed the gates Of the Golden City And there, He dwelled, waiting To see the wonders His children would create."
