Something all flight attendants should consider regardless of what airline they are working for:
Groveling should never be a negotiating tactic.
Emotional appeals do not work at the negotiating table.
Ever.
Always remember this!
Thanks, Rock! Flight attendants everywhere adore you!

"THREE UNIONS HEARD ERE WORKERS CHOOSE," Toronto Star. July 22, 1943. Page 2. --- Joint Meeting Held in Jarvis Sees Machinists' Group Given Mandate ---- In Jarvis Tuesday evening spokesmen for three unions - two affiliated with the C.I.O. and one with the A.F. of L. - placed their cases before workers of two war plants and then asked the workers to vote for the union they wanted to represent them.
The three unions were the United Steelworkers of America, C.I.O., the United Automobile Workers of America. C.I.O., and the International Association of Machinists. A.F. of L. After hearing the representatives of all three, a majority of the workers voted for the machinists.
The workers were from the John Bertram Machinery Co. and the Pratt and Whitney Co.. both of Jarvis. Russell Harvey. A.F. of L. organizer and one of the men to speak on behalf of the machinists' union, said today the vote was "informal" and no agreement has been made with either of the companies, whereby the companies will bargain collectively with the union chosen.
"Our organization program is just getting under way in the plants," he said, "but we consider Tuesday's meeting something new and an excellent method of enabling workers to choose the union they want to represent them."
The joint meeting was held at the request of the workers, who stated their desire in a petition signed by 80 per cent. of their number.
Alex Reith. grand lodge representative of the International Association of Machinists, said the three unions had made a "gentleman's agreement" whereby the losers will not attempt to organize in the two plants.

its like the more i learn about the creators behind HSBC and such, i cant help but be absolutely flabbergasted with how people would want this as their representation?????
like i genuinely sincerely believe HSBC and its creators are putting out really toxic and problematic shit out there and EXTREMELY fetishy trans content....
i know people want canonical transgender characters and content so badly but having it written by people who just want to goon over trans people and not legitimately write something respectful of them,, IS NOT IT.
like if june was written in some other way by different people maybe alot more people would be into it. but i honest to god can not support this when it is so obvious that the artists are not good people.
im just shocked june defenders think anyone who dislikes june is transphobic or something like LOOK AT THE ARTISTS WHO DRAW FOR HSBC???? how are they not seeing the transphobia from the actual artists behind beyond canon??? they hate women, they treat jade as a uncontrollable whore with a dog dick that steals girlfriends from people, have fantasies about beheading a female character and laughing about it, turn blatantly gay characters like dirk into bisexual out of nowhere for the sake of fetishes-
LIKE I AM JUST GENUINELY SHOCKED. you would think if these people, really cared about trans issues- gay issues- women issues- that they would see how fucked up HSBC is and its artists are. the focus on "june haters" when if anything alot of people i know who dont like june are trans women themselves, and genuinely just feel she is bad representation-- i dont know man.
do they not see how fucked it is that their "representation" is trans women who abuse and kill people or are written like fetishized whores?
at this point i think "june haters" care more about trans issues than june fans do.

The thing with my latest review title is that it is not perfect on a craft level, it in fact does several things that particularly annoy me about the current SFF zeitgeist, but it was also designed for me personally.

Evrart is a very intriguing character to me because on one hand he couldn't be shadier - he acts like a salesman trying to get you into his pyramid scheme, he's going to fund his syndicate through drug trafficking and he wants to start a war that will get many of his men killed - but on the other it makes you wonder... what if his plans work out and improve Martinaise. He asks you to open some guy's door and at first it seems suspicious but when you find out it belongs to Gary the Cryptofascist you don't feel as bad about it. The construction of the youth center is going to drive people away but at the same time it is a youth center in an incredibly impoverished area that has been forgotten by the Coalition. And even though he is the union leader, most if not all of the union members you see are fine with his behavior, willing to die for his ideas and proposals. Not to mention that, unlike Joyce and Wild Pines, the union is a force of good so it will always be preferable to support it than to defend a powerful capitalist company like Wild Pines. But, despite all that, he comes off as such a corrupt character, especially when compared to Joyce - who is so pleasant, cooperative and agreeable - that it makes you doubt and wonder if you're doing the right thing by siding with him.

A young married weaver – Ann Ellis of Skelsey Mill – was appointed by men and women weavers to organise a protest. She formed the Dewsbury and Batley Weavers' Committee of 13 women to represent 25,000 workers, and on 16 February addressed her first meeting of 9,000 striking weavers in a field near Spinkwell Mills, Dewsbury.

"Strikes Close Pulp Mills," Montreal Star. April 7, 1943. Page 19. ---- Catholic Union Asks Bargaining Rights ---- QUEBEC, April 7 - (C.P.) - Col. C. H. Jones, president of Price Brothers, said today that the company is making no attempt to keep in operation its three Lake St. John district newsprint mills where walkouts have occurred in the past two days.
"Three mills have been closed by a strike called by the Syndicate Catholique," Col. Jones said. "We have continuing contracts with the International Brotherhood of Pulp and Paper Makers (A.F.L.) We are making no attempt to keep the mills in operation. We plan to protect our physical assets and let nature take its course."
(A spokesman for the workers said in Chicoutimi that they were seeking recognition of the National Catholic Syndicate as their union.)
Kenogami Affected CHICOUTIMI, April 7 - (C.P.) - The strike in Northern Quebec newsprint plants spread to Kenogami today when 750 men failed to report for work at the Prince Brothers & Co. Ltd. plant at eight o'clock this morning. Last night, walkouts involving 525 men halted operations at the Jonquiere and Riverbend plants. The strike also was expected to spread to the Dolbeau pleat.
All mills are located in the Lake St. John and Saguenay River districts.
The strike followed a request by the workmen that the company cancel a collective bargaining contract signed in 1940 with the International Brotherhood of Paper Workers (A.F.L.) and that the union itself no longer be considered as representing them. A spokesman for the workers said they were seeking recognition of the National Catholic Syndicate as their union.
There is no dispute over wages or working conditions. The Catholic Syndicate has appealed to the Federal Government for a conciliator to mediate the dispute, but no action had been taken, the spokesman said. He added that the men had been warned the walkout probably would be declared illegal.

"We want canonical trans characters and good trans representation!"
absolutely valid, a wonderful take and a opinion i agree with
however. A BIG, HOWEVER. HSBC IS THE LAST PLACE TO LOOK FOR FOR GOOD TRANS REP????????????? bro the creators treat trans characters like sex objects, completely mischaracterize and demonize them, perpetuate stereotypes like transwomen being selfish and sex obsessed, or make the actual murderer / abuser character a trans women and narratively treat it like shes a good person ...
you can not honest to god tell me people sincerely want this?? as their representation??? i know people are desperate but COME ON.. you have got to have some ounce of self love to realize how fucked this comic is and who it is written / drawn by.
for gods sake vintage foods drew rape / cuck porn and clearly doesnt give a damn about if a character is trans or gay, its just about what he thinks is hot- and what he thinks is hot is women being forced into sex, being cheated on, and sexualizing and stereotyping women to the maximum.
how the fuck do people want representation FROM SOMEONE WHO DRAWS RAPE PORN OF WOMEN??????????
They probably follow Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss for similar reasons of representation.

Three representatives from the National Federation of Women Workers – Julia Varley, who had started work as a 13-year-old mill girl; Mary Macarthur, a draper's daughter; and Charles Stitch, who had started chainmaking at the age of eight – visited the chainmakers: 'We went into the forges, talking to the women as they hammered away, awakening their consciousness to their responsibilities, appealing to their pride and their motherhood,' said Varley.

Sorry to Bother You Exposes the Monstrosity of Capitalism, Corporate Greed, and Assimilation
Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You is many things. It’s absurd, disturbing, hilarious, and painfully real. It’s about capitalism, corporate greed, labor strikes, protest, and the monstrous systems we build in pursuit of profit. But what hit me the hardest was its commentary on what it means to be Black or Brown in corporate America. The pressure to assimilate, to fit in, to speak the right way and act the right way just to survive and succeed in a system that was never built for us is exhausting. It’s soul-crushing. And it’s a reality that so many people of color face every single day.
In the film, Cassius Green learns how to “code switch,” using a “white voice” to sound more appealing to customers. It’s a satirical exaggeration, but anyone who's ever had to adjust the way they speak or carry themselves to feel safe or acceptable in a white-dominated space knows exactly what Riley is pointing to. Code switching is a survival skill, but it comes at a cost. You start to lose touch with who you really are. You leave behind your community, your values, your identity, and eventually, your soul.
Cassius doesn’t start out trying to sell out. He just wants to pay his rent. But as he climbs the corporate ladder and gets a taste of success, he starts to drift further and further away from the people he loves and the principles he once believed in. He becomes complicit in a system that exploits others for profit. It’s heartbreaking to watch, but it’s also real. This is what it takes to “make it” in America? Giving up your humanity to line someone else’s pockets?
And then there’s WorryFree, a corporation offering labor contracts in exchange for food and shelter. It’s slavery dressed up as job security. The film takes this to its most grotesque conclusion when Cassius discovers that the company is literally turning workers into human horse hybrids, equisapiens, to create a more obedient and profitable labor force (slavery symbolism once again). It’s absurd, yes, but it’s also a chilling metaphor for how capitalism dehumanizes us. How far will corporations go to extract every last drop of productivity from their workers? Apparently, gene modification isn’t out of the question.
But it’s not all hopeless. Like many Black stories, Sorry to Bother You centers community as a source of strength. Cassius’s friends, coworkers, and even his girlfriend Detroit fight back. They organize. They protest. They show us that solidarity still matters, even in the face of monstrous systems. Cassius eventually comes to his senses and tries to make things right, even if it’s too little, too late. His arc is a warning, but also a call to action.
In the end, this film is absurdist Afrofuturism at its finest. It shows us a world that looks like ours until it doesn’t. It uses surrealism to reveal truths that are all too real, that success in a white supremacist capitalist system often demands our silence, our complicity, and our humanity. And we should all be asking, at what cost?

"Shipworkers Will Send Delegation to Ottawa." Vancouver Sun. June 20, 1942. Page 17. ---- Union Decision ---- Yards Here To Operate On Sunday ---- Shipyards will be working Sunday while executives of the various unions are choos Ing their representatives on a delegation which is to go to Ottawa to talk over the whole shipbuilding situation with Labor Minister Humphrey Mitchell and the Cabinet.
This is the upshot of a full meeting of the Joint Shipyard Trade Union Conference Friday night, at which representatives attended from all ship yards in Vancouver and Victoria. The delegation will go by air to Ottawa if and when plane reservations can be secured. It will not be known how many delegates will go until the various unions report back to the conference.
It is anticipated that some of the smaller unions may share the expense of a single delegate, while one or two larger n may send more than one.
Bulletins were posted in the shipyards today urging the men in carry on work as usual on Sunday. They assure the men that the whole matter of the seven-day week is under organizational control and must be kept away from individual sectional action which might aggravate the situation.
It appeals to the men to support the Joint Union Conference by continuing the seven day plan until the situation is resolved.
Lawrence Anderson, secretary of the confererce, explains that the decision to send a delegation resulted from the fact that no reply had been received from the Labor Minister regarding representations made to him on the alternative plan adopted and put forward by the conference.
"With the Ottawa cabinet constantly in session to deal with vital war questions, we anticipate that we will receive a sympathetic hearing of our first-hand knowledge of ship building problems on this east," Anderson said.
No formal application for an appointment with the cabinet has been made yet. It is thought probable that it will be made through the national officials of the trade congresses in the East.
