Turn junk mail into a more canvas-like material, here are some methods to try:
1. Junk Mail "Paper Mache Board"
Since you don’t want to sew pieces together, this method compresses multiple layers into a sturdy, single piece:
How to Make It:
Shred or tear junk mail into small pieces.
Soak it in a mix of PVA glue and water (roughly 1:1).
Spread the pulp onto a flat, non-stick surface (like plastic or wax paper).
Press it down with a rolling pin or a heavy board to compact it.
Let it dry completely before gessoing.
✅ Pros: Cheap, sturdy, textured like heavy watercolor paper ❌ Cons: Takes time to dry fully, can be bumpy without pressure
2. Laminated Junk Mail Canvas
If you want a smooth, flexible, canvas-like surface, you can fuse layers of junk mail into a thick sheet.
How to Make It:
Stack several layers of paper (newsprint, mail flyers, etc.).
Apply a generous layer of PVA glue or acrylic matte medium between layers.
Press under a heavy object (books, weights) to keep it flat while drying.
Once dry, gesso the surface to prep for painting.
✅ Pros: Smooth, customizable thickness, flexible ❌ Cons: Needs drying time, not as stretchable as traditional canvas
3. Junk Mail "Fabric" Using Glue or Gel Medium
Want something more cloth-like? This method softens the paper so it bends and behaves more like canvas.
How to Make It:
Soak junk mail pages in a diluted fabric stiffener, acrylic medium, or watered-down PVA glue.
Layer sheets together while damp, pressing them flat.
Once dry, coat with gesso for a paint-ready surface.
✅ Pros: Can be stretched over a frame, durable ❌ Cons: Might still need reinforcing if you want a large surface
4. Use Plastic Bags to Reinforce It
If you want something waterproof and flexible, you can fuse thin plastic (like grocery bags) between layers of junk mail.
How to Make It:
Lay a thin plastic sheet (like a cut-up grocery bag) between junk mail layers.
Iron over it (low heat, parchment paper on top) to melt the plastic and bind the layers.
Gesso the surface before painting.
✅ Pros: Cheap, durable, semi-flexible ❌ Cons: Heat-sensitive, might wrinkle if overheated
Your Current Method is Solid
Honestly, gessoing card stock from junk mail is already a killer idea. If it’s holding up and taking paint well, then longevity might not be a huge issue. Gesso itself adds durability, and since you pin it down to keep it flat, warping shouldn't be a big problem. You could also try:
Adding extra layers of gesso for more strength.
Spray-sealing finished paintings to add longevity.
Experimenting with glue or acrylic medium layers before gessoing to add more flexibility.
If you ever want bigger surfaces, try gluing multiple pieces together with PVA or gel medium before gessoing. That would create a large, seamless panel without sewing.

Heres the yarn from the sleeves, unwound, washed, dried, then rewrapped!
One of the sleeves got EXTREMELY tangled while i was rewrapping, and i had to cut the string to survive. The small ball is everything that was tangled together, maybe 1/3 of the total piece of yarn.
There's soooooo much more yarn than I thought there'd be after unwinding and unkinking even just the sleeves! I haven't even touched the front and back panels yet, and I know it'll probably quadruple or quintuple the yarn shown here!

Watched some videos about how to unwind thrifted sweaters for cheap, good-quality yarn and found a beautiful Miku Blue, 100% Cashmere, 2ply sweater for $6. :)
#ill absolutely be giving some of this to the knitters/crocheters i know#bc theres no way i could use it all#knitting#yarn crafts#yarnblr#cashmere#upcycling#mc og#canvas

poison headcanons?
let’s fuckin go.
probably the most popular hc: Poison is non-binary. their gender is nonexistent.
they/them pronouns and gender neutral terms. but sometimes they appreciate Kobra calling them his sister.
half japanese.
their signature colour is yellow, but their hair is dyed red because it’s Kobra’s favourite colour.
^theyre extremely devoted to keeping their hair as red as possible. the smallest sliver of brown roots NEED to be bleached and dyed red.
Poison cares so much about others to a fault. they’d gladly sacrifice their own needs to help someone they love.
has a derealisation disorder, and tends to slip out of their own mind as an escape from difficult issues. dissociating used to be really dangerous for them, but since teaming up with the Fab Four, they have people to take care of them when it happens.
Poison’s an artist who will use absolutely anything as a canvas. every inch of the diner’s inner walls are covered in paint. they repainted the Trans Am with new designs like 6 times.
they go by ‘Poison’. the only person who calls them ‘Party’ is Kobra. the team calls them ‘Pois’. Ghoul calls them ‘Red’.
their favourite pastime is looting city dumpsters for craft supplies and clothes to upcycle.
BL/Ind had their eyes on Poison before they escaped the city. had they stayed behind, Poison would definitely be a Scarecrow by now.
to the Girl, Poison is the most parental out of the Fab Four. they refer to the Girl as their daughter most of the time.
part of their instinct to take care of the Girl comes from basically raising Kobra their entire childhood.
snakebite piercings.
at some point they rocked a mullet. i don’t know when, but i know it happened.
Poison and Jet kick Ghoul and Kobra out of the diner at least once a month for a no boys allowed party.
they struggled with their spirituality for a long time in the desert, but after some self discovery and some help from Jet, they found themself getting pretty connected to the Witch.
Poison and Kobra share a room in the diner. Poison says it’s because Kobra can’t be alone, but it’s really Poison that can’t fall asleep without knowing that Kobra is okay.
the self proclaimed best driver of the Fab Four.
if it was safe to do so, Poison would exclusively wear shorts and skirts. but of course they need protection on missions, which is where the skinny jeans come in.
the Girl sleeps on the foot of Poison’s bed, curled up like a puppy. she likes it this way.
