MARX RPG

I’ve been working on this for days, made an accidental (The nova itself) and purposeful reference (the background) to Birth of a Wish by itsquakey (you should go check em out their art is SICK /pos)

- More ramblings below -

I wanted to make an RPG type thing with Marx for a while. Originally I was going to make an actually playable one but then realized I don’t have the time or knowledge to actually do that so I turned around and made it a video. Marx actually wasn’t the first idea I have for who the video would be about.

The first character I’d considered was actually Taranza but then… I’d have to draw Taranza and I was not in the mood. So I went with Marx.

The reference to Birth of a Wish (via the Nova specifically) wasn’t intended but someone I’d shown the video to pointed it out and I couldn’t leave it out in mention. The actually intended reference (the background) was specifically placed there because original all the video was going to be was some sample text and audio and then I got carried away and by that point I was over 200 images in on CapCut and unwilling to turn around.)

Where the plot was gonna go from here included the Nova having something to do with the rain in dreamland and being a small part of one of popstar’s larger moon’s or something of the sort meaning Kirby and Marx would have to find all the pieces to this “planet”. At least that’s what I imagined LMAO 😅

Note: Itsquakey if you ask me to take this down because of the references to your work I will without questions!

Last thing! I wanted to mention two posts I’ve seen that have done something similar that I think you should also check out!

Rambles about the process under the line

Ok! So I made the music mash up in the background of this. It took forever but I did it! It's my first time ever editing audio like that and I just used capcut and a dream. All of this was made on my phone and I was honestly REALLY struggling capcut isn't very friendly tbh but I managed!

My fav part is the shot of Ithaca that shifts into the underwater, referencing Poseidon's threat to flood Ithaca. Also the scared fish. He's so fucking stupid.

Hermes is the only character that can break that black border because I think it suits him idk. Poseidon's waves can also break the wall, but that's to make them feel closer and more overwhelming, much like Hermes presence actually (very affectionately)

I have a fully rendered version of Poseidon's Trident. but it didn't fit with the rest the visuals so I un rendered it. I don't even head cannon him using a Trident tbh. The horse Poseidon takes heavy inspo from @anniflamma 's (sorry for the @ just wanna credit) design but a made his hair more water-y for fun. Nothing strikes fear quite like anni's design tho, my design isn't the same but has the same hair and eyes because I can't imagine him any other way now

So I actually don’t use a ‘proper’ animation software. I do all my drawring on ibis paint x, export them with a transparent background. And put them as overlay layers on CapCut.

You can use a diamond button ♦️ <- kinda looks like that, to create key frames and move the layers to do the tweening.

Its hard to explain over text but Im seriously considering creating a tutorial on how I make my videos if people are intrested :p

I learnt tweening like 5 years ago when I wanted to be an editor and it’s kinda stuck with me lol

Its very fun tho, when you get the hang of it, and I personally prefer it over frame by frame because my lines are to shaky to make that look good lmaoo

A new Spot AU?? From ME?? How shocking lol

This is The Bot, from a more futuristic AU (Earth-101101) where all the Spider-Man villains are just “normal” people who have built robots of their villainous selves. Bot was actually designed by Dr. Johnathon Ohnn just as a test subject “dummy” for his supercollider experiments- but ended up fusing with his invention during the explosion. Bot is powered by dark matter, allowing him to freely and safely travel through alternate dimensions. When the dark matter’s power runs out- so does Johnathon’s existence. So he becomes obsessed to harvesting as much as possible from other dimensions… which… can’t be good for him.

I had fun making this lil video last night!! It took me 6 hours total, and I made it using Procreate (for the artwork), Procreate Dreams (for the animation, tweening and composition), and CapCut (the music and video effects)! Hopefully this year I can get better and better at using these programs to make more animated video content!

I wanna make more Bot content soon as well- same thing for my other AUs haha I have so many ideas but so little time!

so I start by getting obssessed with a song and then making a little storyboard. I have a bunch of these that never get turned into an Actual Animatics but theyre always fun and help just get the idea out of my Head. Ignore the terrible quality of the photo but I managed to find one of the ones for be nice to me! COULD NOT TELL YOU WHAT ANY OF IT MEANS NOW!!!!! giggling my storyboards are just blobs and also this photo is awful i can barely see it BUT I COULD READ IT AT THE TIME SO THATS ALL THAT MATTERS!!!

usually I have a bit more of a plan but for be nice to me i seem to remember lots of the parts got shuffled around. mostly because I wanted to include as many characters as possible. (even if most of it is just mort and family because they're very dear to me )

ANYWAY!!! so I animate bigger things in krita, which (although it does crash somtimes) is easy to use and has nice brushes. I used to use it for all my art :D i also use flipaclip for animations which i dont want to put much detail into beacuse its fun to do higher fps stuff on there. I TRIED USING PROCREATE DREAMS ONCE BUT IT DOENST HAVE A LASSO TOOL???? which is really painful so I gave up. I dont do much editing, but sometimes i use capcut to fix audio or do small camera movements. All of these are free! apart from procreate dreams. i hateyou procreate dreams.

A thing i like doing, is to make multiple lineart frames of a still shot and alternate them every few frames which makes it look more Alive and helps transition into movement nicely :D I didnt really bother to do that in the hfth one though because it was so fast paced. ANOTHER THING TO FAKE MORE MOVEMENT is to use the transform tool to have a frame thats slightly stretched or squished after quick movements which makes them look more bouncy.

COLOUR WISE for long animatics I have a bg colour and a couple of Bright colours that stand out for important details. i think in be nice to me that was mostly red and green. nik and marolmar.... if its just lineart I also sometimes draw background details in a lower opacity or different colour so it looks less cluttered

AND THEN once I've finished sometimes I also throw a texture over the top of everything to make it look more interesting... usually a paper texture i like using those :D

NO IDEA HOW MUCH OF THIS MADE SENSE BUT I ENJOYED RAMBLING!!!!!!!! i hope it answered your question :D

Hi Quill!! The software I use is Krita it's 100% free and you can import audio and all that jazz!! I found it a bit complex to use at first (still do sometimes haha) so here's some really helpful YT tutorials:

As for my own animatic, I used the animation timeline as a guide of sorts, but ended up exporting the images and edited them together on CapCut so I could also edit the music and add effects and text.

You probably already know this but I find that storyboards are a must!! I had dabbled in animation/animatics before but ended up quitting due to a lack of direction so I owe it all to my storyboards for my finished animatic!!

They're not perfect by any means haha and I did end up changing some stuff in the end. Storyboarding was also really useful for experimenting with the colours you want. I actually really struggled with the colours at some point,,, the last few panels used to be purple and yellow and at one point I almost ditched the orange and blue colour scheme (thank goodness I didn't) . I ended up asking a friend for some help which was very useful

So if you need any more advice I'm always available!!! Even though I am a newbie...

Okay I gotta start with a disclaimer and hope it reaches anyone who makes fan art: I’m really sorry but I can’t write those big paragraphs anymore :[. Coming from a huge place of privilege that I get to have as many beautiful drawings as I do. I could not be more grateful and I’ve always tried to show that through my writing. giggles well since TikTok and capcut are more gone thann my grandpa and my will to live let me tell you...a story... so if anyone thinks I'm in a relationship with KURLX3 on Pinterest I'm not we're just homies who make jokes. so basically my friend scout does this think where she does like musical theatre and she was in a production of frozen. my friend Olive and I went to go see her perform in it (she was ensemble but she still ate). and i'm in a band class with ppl ages 10-14. most of the band kids do something like musical theatre, and it took me up until today I liked this kid who...I'm gonna call...hm...jellybeans I don't fucking know. jellybeans is a year younger than me btw. so Olive and I were watching the production, chilling. and we see jellybeans walk onstage, and I just randomly realize he's actually not bad looking... after the production and the cast changed into their normal clothes my friends olive and scout and I were like on the hunt for jellybeans, right? and I knew he tried hitting on me like 33284093894093847940937t7430932480t4 times before so I was like "I'm gonna tell him I like him back" or some shit idk. so we eventually find him and maybe its the fact I'm a fucking fag but I saw him in eyeliner and like smash stfu. so I told him the "u did great" and whatever and when we got back to scout's house I was like "hey do you have his number??" and she was like "no but I have his best friend's number" so I currently don't have my phone so we called his friend who im gonna call celery on olive's phone. he finally answered and we were like "hey do you have jellybean's number?" and he started calling me shit like whore and bitch and the normal insults you;d get from a closeted gay. we got sick of him so we just hung up. out of the blue our friend pearl FaceTimed us and we were like "yo can you help us get jellybeans number?" and she said yes so she called him and god jellybeans number so now I have his number and I have no phone and I have to see him on Tuesday STEPH WHAT DO I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

i use a free video editing software called CapCut to put together my animations. it's not actually an animating software; rather, it lets you insert images or videos on a timeline, then move them around and stretch or shorten their length. it's also what i use to edit my let's plays and speedpaints! So, i download the audio from a lyric video, put that in the timeline, line up the lyrics, then make the lyric video invisible and line up all my frames to match the timing that i want. i find this much more intuitive and easy to understand than using actual animation software (of which I have tried many), even though its probably a technically more difficult way to do it.

CapCut is available on Windows and mobile (it puts a watermark at the end of videos made on the mobile app, but you can crop that out on your phone or tablet's photo app). I don't remember if theres a Mac version. as for art, I use Clip Studio Paint, but you could use any art program that lets you export images!

i totally recommend trying to animate yourself!!!!!! it takes a long time but its so much fun and i think capcut makes it really easy

Hey I love ur amvs!! I was wondering if you had advice for someone that's interested in making their own? I'm not sure what the best programs are for editing or getting clips. Ty! :)

this is so flattering thank you so much!!!!! I LOVE making amvs…… favourite thing in the world to do so this is gonna be probably longer than you wanted…..

I’ve bounced around just about everything in the last couple years so I can give you a few different ideas!!

For clip sourcing:

initially, I used episodes that I had downloaded as supernatural was airing so the quality was iffy and there were logos on a lot of them… THEN I went the screen recording route (for when I was on my phone, I’ve never tried this on desktop but I know this works well for others!!) but I found that the quality still bugged me AND I ended up with nearly 2000 supernatural clips on my phone…… which was a nightmare to sort through… NOW I use this which is very fabulous and easy to use… you can select which eps to download if you don’t need all of them!! (and no vpn needed)

For editing:

I’ve used a lot of different programmes til I found one that worked well for me so definitely shop around…. youtube tutorials are your friend…. when I started, I was using sony vegas pro…. which worked fine even though my laptop was the first one ever made… but I didn’t want to pay for it and it got blocked on my laptop forever and windows would notttt let me get it back…….. SO, as I mentioned, for a while I was editing on my phone which I would personally nottt recommend for full length amvs… smaller edits would be completely fine!! I used splice which was very basic but it got the job done!! actually. looking through my videos- everything from mr perfectly fine to dean movies was made on my phone which is about 30 videos- so this works!! it’s just much more difficult and harder to polish up…. I personally make amvs much quicker and cleaner on my laptop.. and noticed a big big difference in my own quality since I switched….. NOW I use capcut since it’s free and my laptop can run it without any issues. I’m genuinely very impressed with it as a free software- lots of really good tools and effects, I find it so easy to alter colours and subtitle as well!! which I struggled with on other platforms!! very user friendly too!!! would be very beginner friendly!!

PLANNING is my absolute favourite part of making an amv…… normally I hear a song and can very easily picture shot by shot how I would amv it - once I’ve got the song and general theme I’m going for- I normally print out the lyrics and annotate them - jotting down timings, voiceovers, season, arcs and clips.. I can sometimes skip this if it’s just a simple video but if it’s anything complicated I HAVE to write it down. I also find it’s easier to make a video have a ‘point’ if I do this??? idk.. I think it helps but idk if this is something everybody does :)

there’s the spn transcript searcher which is very useful as well if there’s a line you’re looking for but can’t remember where it’s from!!

and of course homeofthenutty which is great for thumbnail stuff!!

editing things:

honestly… I don’t think there’s a wrong way to do this if you’ve got a really fabulous idea….. timings are the trickiest thing to get the hang of- I do dashes on my printed plan to kind of show where I need cuts and if it’s fast cuts I write down how long each clip should be so it looks cleaner. I find that my videos don’t really look finished until they’re subtitled either- so that always helps!! everybody kind of does that differently so definitely play around until you find a style you like!!

I wouldn’t worry too much about colouring when you’re just starting out- sometimes I find that filters can be distracting but I know others who swear by them so that’s just personal preference!! I really just tweak certain clips to make them less saturated or green-looking….

for posting:

I really recommend posting simultaneously on tumblr and youtube!! I have videos with basically no notes on tumblr but did really well on yt and vice versa!! the yt algorithm can be funny- I find that as long as it has a custom thumbnail and a few comments it does alright!! on tumblr- I always link the yt video since the tumblr player doesn’t always work for everybody…. also don’t be afraid to use taglists!!! I’m sure your mutuals would love to be tagged and please definitely tag me in anything you make!!! genuinely owe so much to my mutuals for their support 🫶🫶 and also don’t be afraid to self-reblog!! chronological dashboard means people WILL miss things if they aren’t online!!!

but genuinely the most important thing is to have fun…… I seriously love amvs…. I think they’re the best thing in the world and spend probably at least half an hour minimum a day watching amvs…….. and we need more of them!!!!! so thank you!!! and please please tag me when you make one!!! and feel free to dm me if you need anything at all!!! like all technical aspects aside… an amv made with so much love and to a fabulous song is a gift to the world…… 🫶🫶

I made a TADC oc!! (Finally lol) at first, i wanted him to be a stuffed cat. I tried two different designs and decided that it wasn’t going to work at all. So i decided on him being a ragdoll like ragatha (that way i could still add his patches like i had previously wanted to!!) also, I appologize for the video quality being low, im not really sure how to fix that bc i was using capcut! Maybe ill make a speedpaint for you guys to watch!

His name is Star, becuase of his star button, also he in general tends to dissociate a lot and “stare off into space” as some people put it. He maldaptive daydreams as a coping mechanism, and I imagine that he has DID (partially because i want to project onto him partially because I think thats realistic for him).

Howd he get into the digital circus though?? Id imagine that he came across the headset in the hospital, mental hospital. Hes been there a lot, lots of needles in the arm (thats why the purple patch is there!!) someone probably gave it to him as a gift!! (The occasion or reason can be decided however youd like lol) when he got to the circus he was really confused, but as any kid in the hospital would wanna do the first thing he wanted to do was play outside. Actually hes probably ecstatic by all the colors and fun stuff around him, until he realizes he cant take off the headset, thats when he starts to freak out. Thats a big change to him, he could always leave his daydreams before hand and switch them around, imagine playing a “game” and then figuring out your not able to leave, pretty spooky!! He likes to make braclets and draws a lot. Those are two things he couldnt really do at the hospital, he probably bugs gangle to draw with him all the time too. He thinks caine is scary but doesnt say anything.

Thats all i can think of for now!!

Also no he doesnt actually remember the hospital, he just feels more drawn to the colors and playing and drawing and making things but doesnt know why hes so desperate to do all of it.
