i love the idea that viggo's issue is that he's always overestimating the dragon riders and that's why he loses. other antagonists always underestimate them, they don't put in all the necessary precautions, which allows the riders to slip through, always throwing parties and gloating before the dragon is in the cage. but viggo?

my man takes so many precautions, his entire island is a war base, and yet, and YET the dragon riders got in by dyeing snotlout's hair blonde, giving him gucci boots and naming him sir ulgertorpe, SIR ULGERTORPE. viggo got catfished by snotlout with blonde hair. he's overestimating them so bad that the IDEA of them "just walking in" doesn't even come to mind. he's ready for fire and death to fall from the sky but a one-legged boy pulling a fast one on him breaks his fancy little english brain.

I like to think Viggo would make sure that he is alone before treating his Skrill like the big ol puppy she is. Alternatively, the Skrill waits until they are alone before acting like a big ol puppy.

Also Viggo absolutely uses pet names for her you cannot change my mind.

Like you’re this mastermind dragon hunter that is running possibly the largest operation in the entire of the archipelago that is family owned and ran with your older brother with hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of henchmen to do your dirty work and whenever people even MENTION your name they get scared and you’re this big strong powerful dude in his like mid forties but then a group of mother fucking barely adult stupid ass kids show up and successfully threaten your entire business model? i usually don't talk about httyd on here, but for some reason i've felt the sudden urge to rewatch all the tv shows and overanalyze everything and i've got some things to say about the twins (mainly ruffnut). they are actually so underrated and not necessarily in the fandom, but rather when it comes to the shows itself. especially in rob/dob, where they barely have any characterizations at all. this is such a missed opportunity because both of them can be extremely perceptive and witty at times. they have lots of random knowledge, are multilingual and actually show interest in topics such as poetry, philosophy, psychology etc. (their entire character designs just scream insomniac kids with ADHD).

specifically ruffnut is pretty smart. she is one of the best liars in the dragon rider group (tbh the bar is set pretty low) and extremely cunning. that one scene where she tricked the dragon hunter guard by pretending to crack? only to steal his key without anyone noticing?? this comes to my mind. or how she just straight up lied to viggo and ryker without showing a hint of fear or remorse? and the entire thing with gruffnut. to me, she seems like she just doesn't really care and wants to keep the expectations low to have fun. also, her calling astrid out for not respecting the team was completely valid, especially if you consider the character dynamics. although astrid is a lot more present in the show, ruffnut has a stronger connection to the other dragon riders (except from hiccup). ruffnut, tuffnut, snotlout and (even) fishlegs have plenty of bonding moments together, where you can sense the found family vibes. astrid mostly ignores fishlegs/only talks to him about hiccup/rolls her eyes at him, is openly aggressive when it comes to snotlout, and dismisses everything the twins say. she, too, never got really close to ruffnut (another missed opportunity), which is why there was barely any female friendship represenation in the main group. (i mean, there was heather, but she wasn't there the entire time in rtte and barely at all in rob/dob.)

also, i think the twins were just generally more fleshed out in rtte than they were in rob/dob. like, tuffnut got his chicken and we see all his hyperfixations (mostly very dangerous dragons, which is just a mood on its own). and i loved the scenes where we saw that they actually cared for each other a lot. like when ruffnut forced snotlout to get bitten by every dragon possible just to convince her brother that he wouldn't turn into one. and tuffnut giving up his beloved maze, realizing that his sister was more important than his weapon, which was just an item he could replace.

i just generally love the twins and their sometimes chill and sometimes chaotic vibe.

What if Hiccup didn't train the others to fly dragons so after defeating the Red Death Berk just accepts the fact Hiccup is there feral dragon boy. And he just keeps adopting/taking care of dragons then when Viggo, Riker, and Daguar roll around theu just see a bunch of rare dangerous dragons like the Whispering Death, and Skrill just daring them to try and hurt there babies witch are Hiccup and Toothless and on top of that he has a protective mother, a protective father, and a protective uncle figure.

To be honest I would love to see a fic were Hiccup stays on Berk and is the only rider.

I love that Viggo is also so animated with his hands. If he and Hiccup would have a normal conversation about things, they would both just sit there, hands waving, pointing.

where’s my viggo who acts like a lil shit whenever someone does something ryker would do? where’s my viggo very awkwardly trying to be better for hiccup and teach him how to be a better strategist and chief?? where’s my viggo that tries (and fails) to leave the edge after his final “demise”/recovery and can’t bc these children are constantly on the brink of doing something stupid enough to get themselves killed for no reason? (he still can’t fathom how they not only defeated him but also somehow turned him to their side.)

where’s my viggo who struggles with the death of his brother and (quite possibly) the fall of his entire tribe and then some?? bro understands dragons but can’t get a grip on the whole emotional relationship that comes with having his own dragon (the skrill). he’s the stupidest genius you’ll ever meet and doesn’t know how to care for children no matter their age. especially the riders.

You know, I think it's funny how Viggo seems to have hooked the Edge on Maces and Talons. Previous to meeting Viggo, the riders never mention it, nor play it on screen. But after Viggo shows up? They seem to make playing it a regular past-time. Heather, Astrid, Fishlegs, even Snotlout! The whole edge gets together and plays this game regularly with the board and set Viggo literally gave them.

I think Viggo would find that hilarious. I know I do.

So idk if the #HiccstridhadZephyrearlyAU (basically Hiccstrid havebZephyr during the events of RTTE) is even still a thing anymore but I wanted to make a contribution to it. Hope you enjoy.

Living on the edge was difficult, you didn't have any immediate support from anyone other than the people there with you, and a pretty good distance from........well anywhere. But it was ok, the riders and dragons made it work with what they had, and it was pretty peaceful, until it wasn't, until Astrid dropped a (metaphorical) bomb on Hiccup "I'm pregnant".

The next 7 and a half months was interesting, everyone worked to try and baby proof the Edge, while also trying to keep Viggo and Ryker at bay. Fishlegs was busy building baby things, cradle, toys, etc. Heather was tasked with helping Astrid with whatever she needed, even though Astrid said she didn't need any help she definitely appreciated it, especially when her stomach got so big she couldn't see her feet when she was going down the stairs. Snotlout was tasked with building railings around the various decks and ledges around the edge for when the baby started walking so it wouldn't just fall off the cliff, as well as making gates in front of all of the stairs, just a little extra touch. Hiccup was busy patrolling with the twins making sure everything was secure and safe, as well as checking on Astrid every chance he was able to. As for the twins, Tuff helped wherever it was needed, either helping Fishlegs build the baby things, or Snotlout build the railings, or helping Heather if it was needed. But the one who REALLY stepped up was Ruffnut. Hiccup was the first to notice, Ruff suddenly offering to do things she wouldn't normally do with no prompting, and was willing to drop whatever she was doing whenever Hiccup or Astrid called to her, including the ladder she was supposed to be holding for Snotlout, which he then fell off of.

Astrid started to notice soon after Hiccup did, Ruffnut's personality switch, and soon after so did the rest of the riders. It wasn't so much that she'd taken on more responsibility, they all had, but it was more the fact that she started taking everything more seriously than she normally would. Fishlegs was still acting like his normal self, considerate and gentle. Snotlout was still his normal self telling Astrid to shut up when she made a joke at his expense, but also telling her to be careful not to trip on the boards he has laying on the ground for the railings. Tuffnut was still cracking jokes and goofing around while he was helping with everything, but Ruffnut wasn't joking around or making quips as often, she still did it, but not as much as she normally would. If Astrid or Hiccup asked her to help them or someone else with something, she'd give a quick nod, or ask for clarification, then just go do what they asked, it was a little weird at first, but it made the parents to be all the more grateful that they had this big extended family that cared about their kid just as much as they did, Astrid even tiered up a bit, probably just because of the hormones but still. But it wasn't until one night that showed how much Ruffnut had really stepped up.

That's what I have so far, I'll make a second part I promise but I want to know how you guys like this. Don't forget to repost and comment, see if we can get the #HiccstridhadZephyrearleyAU going again.
