If Lotor was meant to be redeemed would we see more from Romelle then? I can’t even imagine how she would have reacted to his return after what we saw of them interacting in s6 / what happened to her brother.
Oh ho ho. Thank you for this question.
You've unlocked Pandora's Box... 🍿 Strap in, everyone.
We have a very telling conversation at the beginning of Launch Date:
Romelle: You know, back on the colony, Luca and I didn’t always get along. But despite that, I always respected Luca. She had an inner strength that many did not and a desire to be a part of something greater than herself.
Allura: If she was so desperate for something to believe in, it may have made her susceptible to being manipulated.
Tumblr media
One of Keith's biggest mistakes was bringing Romelle to Voltron. To Lotor.
She's on the wrong side of the war. She is being manipulated. She is a set up. She is a spy.
Luka died by Honerva's mind power in S8E1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luka was shouting at Romelle about how she betrayed them, how Honerva is going to save them, and this would've potentially alerted the entirety of the Atlas with her shouting carelessly about Honerva's plan.
In season 8, episode 1.
Tumblr media
Honerva really said, "No thanks. Too early into the season for you to ruin it now."
She was also very insistent that Allura goes on this date with Lance despite noticing her hesitance, goes shopping with her to build her trust with her, and then speaks to Luka ALONE, immediately asks if she's alright, and then abruptly asks where the Altean Colony is?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"It's not like that!" and she's right.
She's working with Honerva to gain more insider knowledge on Voltron.
Honerva can access the Alteans through their minds via the dark entities, but it doesn't mean she can see through their eyes; she can only preach to them, control their thoughts, and kill them at will.
Romelle has been set up from day dot to betray the paladins by being Honerva's spy cam from the inside (allegedly). Keith and Krolia fell for it. Keith trusts her story immediately.
Why wouldn't you? She's the first Altean they've seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also found it insanely telling of their characters that Lance is visually suspect, while Keith immediately trusts her and wants to find Lotor right now.
Tumblr media
Ahem.
She's also suggested to be a traitor -- not once, but twice by the Alteans on board the Atlas, including Tavo, who's she claims she's grown up with. He says it to her during the episode Day 47.
Tumblr media
Another question that was raised after one of our many rewatches of the episode Clear Day: How would Honerva know that Lance & Allura were dating during Clear Day?
How would Honerva possibly know to use Lance as a convincing point for Allura to absorb the dark entity? At this point in the story, Honerva wouldn't know that at all... unless she had a spy on board the Atlas.
Isn't it strange how on Clear Day when this all happens to Allura, she is absolutely nowhere to be found? She's not on the ground playing the games. She's not aboard the Atlas -- at least that we see as the viewer.
This is a set up.
Tumblr media
Romelle also achieved a goal when she helped to set up Allurance for Honerva's greater plans.
It's a distraction.
Launch date sets up several subplots related to Lotor, the Altean Colony, the Love Triangle™, Romelle, and so, so much more. Romelle's is one of them.
I'm really excited to finish writing some pieces of the meta and dive more into this topic. It is fascinating.
So, that is all we will say about this for now.
By all means, you can read more about Romelle's arc in this meta and this meta by @leakinghate and Team Purple Lion, which also reinforces Romelle's behaviours and gives us a better understanding of her story.
---
To answer your question, OP:
When Lotor is revived by Allura against the team's wishes? When Keith finally puts his trust in Lotor? When the team puts their trust in Lotor? When they truly learn about the Altean Colonies on the Moon?
It ruins everything for Romelle.
Tumblr media
Does Honerva care? Not particularly.
She's a fearsome foe. She accounted for it. She's ready.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Season 8 is not what we think it was set up to be...
...But then it ended up on the cutting room floor along with Lotor.
Thank you for the question.

1x09 Crystal Venom scene analysis
Let’s take a look at something I just realized.
Tumblr media
In 1x09 Crystal Venom, towards the end, the Paladins discover the castle is wormholing under mysterious circumstances. The entirety of the episode followed the Paladins dealing with a messed up Castleship. Allura was unintentionally driving the castle towards a star about destroy the entire system because of a malfunctioning AI Alfor.
In this scene, Shiro calls out to Allura asking her what is going on. When they realize something is wrong, Shiro is the first one to run towards her, only to get stoped by a barrier dividing him and the paladins from her.
Let’s say AI Alfor never stopped Shiro and them from getting to Allura. What would they have done?
Tumblr media
Would Shiro had ripped her off the console? Would he have carried her off the platform and somehow gotten her to comply?
Like I’m curious what he was even planning on doing once he got to Allura if his “plan” hadn’t literally been stopped by AI Alfor.

THANK YOU FOR THIS INCREDIBLE META. OH MY GOODNESS.
CONNECTION AND INSTINCTS: A RED LION META
Red is the most troublesome Lion and has some very ominous foreshadowing.
Tumblr media
I’ve noticed some interesting points concerning the Red Lion that include Alfor, Keith, and Lance (and a bit of Allura). Thanks to this fabulous meta I realized that both Lance and Pidge have yet to “connect” with their Lions fully and do the eye glow thing. Pidge is shown in a shot with Green similar to both Shiro and Alfor before they did the eye glow thing with their Lions, which gets me thinking that she’s halfway there, but Lance hasn’t had any kind of moment with Blue nor Red. Keith had the eye glow moment with Black, but not Red. So far Alfor is the only one shown to have fully connected with the Red Lion.
Tumblr media
In s7 Lance nearly died because he couldn’t summon his Lion to him while everyone else could. He was the only one who struggled with this. It wasn’t both him and Pidge who struggled, which would have made more sense considering Pidge hasn’t done the eye glow either, although she arguably is more connected to her Lion.
The whole team was shown just moments before being able to fly their Lions through a mental/soul connection (still not sure how that one works) while their bodies were still stuck in the Galra cell. Why then, was Lance unable to summon Red in his time of need when he was shown capable of doing so just moments before?
Because there’s something more going on with Red.
And some of the implications are downright terrifying.
Delve into my madness below the cut.

INTRIGUING IMPLICATIONS
This got too long and I put it below a cut, screw it.
So I have a whole lot of stuff about Quintessence sitting in files and folders and on sticky notes around my desk.  Both VLD’s use of Quintessence and like…actual alchemical Quintessence (using the exact word and also similar or related terms) and places I semi glued them together.  I just.
I have whole huge SWATHES of this that’s not ever going to get out of my personal notes and whole huge SWATHES of it that is going straight into Project ReVolt when that starts going up.  But the other day I started derailing at @quixotic-quetzalcoatl in the comments for her fun pre-oldadin Altean revolution fic about robotic laws and their universality and also how once a species goes interstellar you have to scale up all their qualifiers for ‘worthy of rights’.  Because as we all know, at least here on Earth, it has always taken TIME for ‘basic rights’ to actually be granted inclusively to everyone.  And we still don’t grant them outside our species because, haha, that’s silly.  Even though we know there are, say, intelligent emotionally complex species on earth like octopi and also that we eat them, because they are delicious and we can’t communicate with them in a meaningful way and they lack a visibly structured society or any kind of culture.  ‘Freedom is the right of all sentient beings’ is cool and all, but it only extends as far as we’re able or willing to parse sentience and I SWEAR TO GOD I am getting back to Quintessence here.
And anyway I have been thinking about this ever since that conversation, and cannot contain it until ReVolt goes up.  And I’m kinda curious where people (especially the Alteans Were Not Inherently Good crowd) stand on it.  But I mean.  Let’s face it, that should be everyone because no culture is ‘Inherently Good’, that’s an oversimplification and a form cultural fetishization Lotor definitely thought of Alteans as Inherently Good Allura definitely thought of Alteans as Inherently Good that is not the basis for a healthy relationship y’all
So.  Quintessence.  I’m not like gonna break down all the rules and laws of it or anything, or get into distillation and the implications thereof, because this thought is not about that.  But the short and simple version is that alchemically speaking, Quintessence–undistilled into form–is like gravity: EVERYTHING has at least a little, and things with more exert force on and can affect things with less.

what age do you guys believe the paladins are when they return?
technically its been 4-5 years but !! im interested in time dilation since we dont see any physical changes besides keith. which he would be even older.
i tend to draw them later in the show, s7-8 as indicated by keiths scar. but i do prefer shiros earlier hair. gah!! and the mfes ? are they 23-24?
shiro would be 29 when coming back to earth Oiughhhhhhh. 😭😭😭😭 pidge would be 19!!! 19!!! lance hunk and keith should be 22-24 … they make me so ill.
matt too!! i made a timeline i’ll attach for the holts and broganes but i never thought about the time over the course of the show since its not shown super well anyways

Voltron Season 8 Meta Introduction
Hi! Welcome to "Uncharted Regions."
Now that it's been several years since Voltron Season 8 came out, the news of Netflix's removal of the series on December 14th, 2024 shook the fandom and pop culture as a whole.
You may be wondering... 1) Huh?! 2) Why?! It's a Netflix Original! 3) I loved this show, I don't understand! I was the same, too. We were all a little confused. However, licensing rights were ending to Netflix and Netflix doesn't want to renew. Fair play.
As someone who worked in a corporate company who also provides live streaming services + has a degree in television production, I have a better understanding of the executive decisions at play that comes down to it. It was not too hard to decipher why when you know what went on in the trenches of the Voltron fandom from 2016-2018.
The bottom line is that Netflix marketing did not match the source material provided, and there was intensive discourse across multiple facets of the fandom. You can imagine Netflix were not fans of the outcome of the series, and may not have even been told by Dreamworks the outcome of the series when Season 8 dropped; especially when Netflix's global social media accounts openly admitted to shipping Klance on Twitter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regardless, we're not looking at who's to blame, but you do have to wonder how such a large international miscommunication between Netflix, Dreamworks, and Voltron's IP holders went down the corporate funnel.
...I digress, let's move on.
As many people did from the news of it's removal (which also surprised the official Voltron accounts), I got back into the Voltron fandom really quickly and tried to rewatch as much as I could before it's inevitable removal from Netflix.
I haven't touched this show in years, friends. Not since 2020. The rewatch showed me one thing: that this show is breathtaking, stunning, and at it's core - it represented change. It's truly one of it's kind. To have the crew from Avatar: the Last Airbender, and Legend of Korra working on it on such a high level? Hell, there was an MFE pilot spin off in the works.
There was a lot of promising stories to tell with new outcomes and twists with a classic IP such as Voltron. It was promising a new future and fresh takes with comics, games, and so much more.
Now, alike to most viewers, I was there when Season 8 dropped. Hell, I was at the NYCC 2018 panel where they gave out these posters (which will be VERY relevant to this meta, I assure you):
Tumblr media
The hype of Voltron Season 8 lead to a FULL panel that got closed off mid-way in the line. Many fans flew from across the globe (including myself) to get a glimpse of the showrunners, cast & crew, and a unique slice of the pie into Voltron Season 8's trailer.
The excitement was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before in a fandom. It was extremely thrilling, the trailer was outstanding, and Season 8 wasn't too far away.
First shown at New York City Comic Con 2018, get a look at the #Voltron production team's take on the upcoming final season of Voltron Legendary Defender, streaming on @Netflix tomorrow!
Then Season 8 dropped on Netflix... December 14th, 2018.
It was jarring. There were plot points that made no sense, obvious edits to scenes, censorships like a One Piece 4Kids dub, characters cut and pasted into scenes, and storylines were slapped together like a messy sandwich. And it was incredibly obvious too.
The fandom noticed and reacted accordingly - asking questions and demanding answers left, right, and centre. The showrunners responded through podcasts and statements on various levels.
The answer was clear... their vision wasn't the only vision going into the show:
"You know, as we sort of got through the process of premise, script, it went all the way down the line. It got storyboarded. And then at some point, you know, we received pushback from the studio and you know, we were sort of a little confused, like, “hey, how did it go, like, so far down the line before we received pushback?” And you know, this is not like a, like, a vilifying of DreamWorks or anything, like, every exec that we ever interacted with was, it was like, “hey, we understand why you want to tell this story. We understand where you’re coming from. It’s a little bit bigger than that. You know, there’s-there’s other, sort of, controlling parties with Voltron which makes it unique. It’s not just a DreamWorks-owned property.” And it just–I think logistically it just got really, really weird."
Joaquim Dos Santos - Afterbuzz TV interview. Source: https://dragonofyang.tumblr.com/post/183820127648/abtv-mar-4-transcript
---
Fans promptly started a petition two days later to release the original Season 8. THAT'S how obvious the editing was and how obvious the deterred, original vision had become.
As a disappointed fan and someone who studied media analysis intrinsically for university, I did try to rewatch back then, and it was painful to watch. What happened? There were layers of context on the cutting room floor and scenes didn't make sense. Hell, each episode title always has a double layered meaning, and even those layers were stripped from the core of the episodes for the most part. This left fans to say, "Whaaaaat is going ON?" The entire fandom was hurt by what had occurred.
The cast & crew that were also unaware of these story changes were also quite hurt, too. To make it more apparent, the showrunners were pretty open on speaking about leaving the project as well on the Buzzfeed Aftershow Podcast, but they simply couldn't:
LM: It’s not-it’s not just like, “Oh I can’t afford my mortgage!” You know, we have a crew that we care about we brought onto this show. If we abandoned them, we-we don’t know what’s in store for them. We don’t know, do they get to stay on? Do they get to keep their jobs? Does someone else come on and then they’re working under someone else that they didn’t sign up for? Or–
JDS: Or they’re working under someone else that’s just gonna be like, “Alright, we’re just gonna finish the show and not really do right by the rest of it.”
Lauren Montgomery & Joaquim Dos Santos - Afterbuzz TV interview. Source: https://dragonofyang.tumblr.com/post/183820127648/abtv-mar-4-transcript
---
We all wanted answers, and sure, some members of the team did speak up - but it didn't provide clear answers on what was the go with Season 8 being edited so far into post-production.
Now, this blog isn't dedicated to restoring Season 8 to it's original format (that would be lovely, but we have to be realistic - it has been 7 years and no google drives of the original season 8 have dropped so far). No, no.
That might happen (I've got a positive mindset on it - someone has to have a back up copy on some hard drive somewhere), or maybe it will be released... in a green sock reality.
Tumblr media
Rather, this blog is dedicated to all the fans (new & old) whom want a sense of closure to as to why their favourite show on Netflix from 2016-2018 dropped the ball so hard for Season 8.
Not thinking much of it, I had posted a twitter thread detailing how the ending with all the lions flying off looked a little odd.
...And so, I received an anonymous inbox on New Years Day, 2025
Tumblr media
This DM... was the start to an unravelling of webs and a rewatch that crumbled immediately. The cracks were all there.
I rewatched Season 8 with this information at hand with a few of my closest online friends, and we were shocked at how much there was to uncover. We were absolutely FLOORED by what was found, including incredible pieces of evidence from the fandom itself.
Tumblr media
Now... Why does this matter? It's been YEARS and I'm sure we're not the first to uncover some pieces of information (See the #FreeVLDS8 movement - so, so many good finds there as a foundational point of reference).
Some of what we've uncovered in these Uncharted Regions has NOT been covered by the fandom before, nor does it scratch the surface of what's been found as of yet.
Welcome to the Uncharted Regions of Voltron Season 8.
Our aim for this meta is to acknowledge the following with detailed evidentiary support: 1. The editing of multiple episodes & scenes.
From there, we will look at the alleged changes: 2. Plot points & scenes that may or may not have had cuts. 3. Providing official-style edited shots comparisons to portray how some scenes should've looked in the original Season 8. 4. Piecing each episode / episode orders together (as best as we can) 5. The original ending.
Cheers to the beginning of a new meta, a new hope, and a new perspective on what truly happened to Voltron Season 8.
(Allegedly; for entertainment purposes only)
The one thing I humbly request is PLEASE... No hate towards the showrunners, cast, crew, or the official Voltron IP holders. There's a lot that has changed culturally and intrinsically within the industry over the years and this outcome was not something they could simply control. Let's be adults, look at this open conversation with empathy and love, and respectfully, let's indulge in this topic with grace - your feelings, however, are incredibly valid when it comes to this meta and what we uncover, as there's many alleged finds that may shock the fandom.
Let the journey commence.
Tumblr media
Check out my Twitter page for any and all updates in regards to this insanely detailed meta; including teasers and screenshots! Please and thank you.

Interesting
So in s2e6, Space Mall, a guy gets a good look at Keith’s knife and pronounces it a luxite blade, clarifying that the planet that material comes from “hasn’t existed in decafebes”.
Now, I dunno if it’s ever been confirmed how long a decafebe is, but the knife merchant’s tone would suggest a long time. The presence of “deca” would suggest some multiple of the number ten and I”m guessing a “febe” is longer than a year- quite likely, less like “decades” and more like “centuries” or “millennia”
S2e7, The Blade of Marmora, tells us that luxite only responds to galra- it takes galra blood to “awaken” it.
And it occurred to me that we know, also from Space Mall, that there’s a specific planet associated with the galra- that was destroyed a long time ago- ten thousand years ago. Zarkon’s home planet.
It’d make sense, if luxite responds to galra, that they come from the same place. If luxite can’t be mined any more because its originating planet was destroyed a long time ago- that matches up perfectly.
It also might suggest something very interesting- because all of the Marmorans’ weapons are luxite blades. From what we’ve seen that’s actually the only weapon they use. And they call themselves, well, the Blade of Marmora.
We’ve never heard Zarkon’s planet mentioned by name. What if that’s what Marmora is- the Galra home planet?
It’d suggest some interesting cultural implications about the Marmorans and how they’re styling themselves- asserting a separation from Zarkon and the empire, but also a certain element of suggesting they’re holding to what they see as the ‘true’ philosophy of the Galra by naming themselves after- and literally wielding- pieces of their own homeland.
…And it would possibly add in a completely different context to the act of Keith’s parents giving him that weapon.

Lotor in a Komar Robeast - a Speculative Meta
Listen, I said I wasn’t going to write any more VLD metas, but this one is borderline fanfic, so I have an excuse. My theory is a bit stretched, like a thin rubber band ready to snap, but hey, it’s always fun to theorize. I’m just throwing it out here for funsies.
So, first off, what are the easiest and fastest ways to change the course of an already animated story?
— Static images are easy to alter - Lotor’s cOrpSe comes to mind. Easy to draw a bunch of purple spaghetti over his body.
— If there are changes in the script, calling voice actors back to record new dialogue is also cheaper (and faster) than applying major changes to the animation itself (re-recording dialogue is called ADR and it’s used in the industry on a regular basis).
With that in mind, here’s where I’m applying my theory:
At the end of Knights of Light Part II, Allura remains unconscious, while all the other Paladins wake up from the entity-assisted trip to Honerva’s mind:
Tumblr media
From here on, I (like many others before me) hypothesize that she’d continue her metaphysical journey and finally meet Lotor — a natural consequence of the fact that he (his subconscious more exactly) enticed Allura to follow him in the Clear Day episode (“Follow me”? And then we never saw him again? Hello? Anyone there?).
As seen in the “Genesis” episode in S8, Lotor is boiling in his own rage — a rage of galactic proportions, magnified by the rift quintessence. Similar to how she woke the Old Paladins up from the darkness inside Honerva’s mind, Allura would now have a chance to awaken Lotor’s consciousness.
The difference between Lotor and Alfor et al. is that Lotor also retains his physical body — and I posit it would not look as horrid as published in canon. After simmering in the quintessence field among entities, it would make more sense story-wise for Lotor to resemble his parents’ transfiguration. A vampire-like appearance. The flecks of purple light emanating from him in the (supposed) coRpSe scene suggest that as well (Remember Zarkon and Honerva’s eyes, effusing motes of eerie purple light after coming back from the rift?).
Here’s where I’m deviating from the traditional theories:
The outcome of Lotor still retaining a viable body would be that Allura would completely wake him up from his vampire state: mind and body.
In other words, Allura would revive him remotely, via the entity connection. She wouldn’t need to storm the pyramid. Or, to quote Allura herself in the very last episode of S8, she’d “change the quintessence within [his] vessel/body from a destructive force into a life-giving force” (note that in canon she applied this technique to Honerva, while they were in the Connected Consciousness Plane, so… also remotely). As per Allura’s own recount, this was something that Lotor helped her learn.
This would bring us to the next point, as we see it in canon:
At the beginning of S8E12 “The Zenith”, Merla unexpectedly comes to the Paladins’ aid, parrying a Komar robeast’s strike against Voltron:
Tumblr media
Pidge exclaims: “It’s the Altean!”
“Why is she helping us?” Lance asks.
Merla pleads with the Paladins. “Please, do not harm them! They were misguided, much like I was. We all were.”
We never actually see Pidge, Lance or Merla talking, we only hear their voices while the robots carry on with the battle.
This sneaky little snippet of dialogue is where I think stuff might have been altered.
Why?
Because Merla freaking died in the previous episode. Honerva blasted Merla’s mecha to fine cosmic dust, and we witnessed that in a mighty well animated scene, for that matter.
So. Who might have actually piloted that Komar robeast?
Well…
How about… Lotor? What if Lotor’s “do not harm them” was swapped with Merla’s voice?
Freshly awoken from his mega mental breakdown, but still refusing to accept Honerva as his mother — thus putting up a big fight against her (and consequently pushing Honerva to such batshit insanity where she’d decide to search for a child-Lotor in another reality), Lotor would eventually manage to escape the pyramid aboard a Komar mecha. Abandoning Sincline in this case would also serve as a symbolic gesture of departing his past life and actions, and joining the Coalition for good. (Also, in Allura’s vision in “Clear Day”, the Komar robot had a bit of a sacrificial symbolic role, so there’s that as well).
Inserting Lotor here would be an effective action sequence, with a bigger story impact than Merla’s — and it would flow nicely, as he’d arrive in the nick of time to help the Paladins. Not to mention, it would save a lot of time and budget, by skipping that extra episode about storming the pyramid.
Look, I love the ‘storming the pyramid’ idea and all the art that’s been done so far with it. I’d love to see more! I wrote a fanfic around it, too. But what if there was a more streamlined approach?
Also… Also… This action flow would explain the unprofessionally chopped frame (rip Hunk, we only see your shoulder) that follows immediately after the Merla-helps-Voltron scene. (Oh, how about Lance’s “Why is she helping us?” rolling right during this frame? We don’t even see Lance’s mouth - how convenient!)
Tumblr media
In the unaltered version of this split screen (there must be an uncropped version, because otherwise… where’s Hunk?), I posit there wouldn’t be any Merla; instead, we’d see the newly-arrived Lotor, the Paladins, and the two remaining Altean warriors. And the convo would flow something like this:
Pidge: “It’s Lotor!”
Lance: “Why is he helping us?” (Or perhaps he would say something else completely? We can’t see his mouth; I guess it was easier than re-animating his lips to the new dialogue?)
Lotor: “Please, do not harm them!” [Optional: “They were misguided — much like I was. We all were.” — this would tie in with what Allura said about him in the Connected Consciousness scene: “Lotor may have been misguided, but ultimately he wanted to preserve life.”]
Scrolling further into S8E12, there are two almost identical semi-static scenes (an Altean character is animated briefly), separated by about 5 minutes (min 12:08, then min 17:00). The background dissimilarity is what triggers my suspicions. Remember I said static images are easy to alter? Spot the differences between these two pics:
Image 1 - minute 12:08:
Tumblr media
Image 2 - minute 17:00:
Tumblr media
In the second shot Matt and N-7 are gone, but more importantly… the Balmeran alien on the right has been replaced by Merla, and her Komar mecha looms in the background. See how easy it is to switch characters in static scenes? It’s canon. Boom. Proof right here.
What if… that character was actually Lotor? If he was supposed to be in that mecha instead of Merla, this would be a great opportunity for him to join forces with his beloved Alteans, and… and… express his own magical powers! (Oh, magical Altean Lotor? We’ve been waiting for this since Oriande, haven’t we? Here we go!)
Not to mention the super-symbolic gesture he’d make, of giving up his own quintessence — after syphoning it from other Alteans in the past.
Ultimately though, we know that the Balmerans & the Coalition’s efforts fail, as they’re unable to contain the rift. Their reality collapses. Meanwhile, Voltron-Atlas misses their entry point to the next reality. They’re all defeated. Honerva reaches her target reality. There, she meets cute little Lotor, gets rejected (again!) by him, and looses her shit completely.
Then, out of thin air, Voltron-Atlas reappears. May I ask how? Because damn sure, canon never explained it.
While my imagination is exhausted here, I have a couple of options, sourced from a previous meta of my own, as well as @violethowler ’s meta. In either case, the idea is that a supernatural being from beyond realities must have helped them, perhaps akin to the Sphinx in the VLD comics — maybe a Lion Goddess (foreshadowed in S1)? Perhaps they must pass some tests? The riddle of the Sphinx? Perhaps their experience in S7, “The Journey Within” was the Goddess’ test, and they already passed it? Unity, friendship, hope… All that good stuff.
And here, in the Nowhere Land beyond realities, I speculate that Lotor reunites with the Voltron-Atlas team. A seven-unit team (as hinted through Kolivan’s interview in “Day Forty-Seven”). According to a previous analysis of mine, there are animation glitches that hint at Lotor being present in the final scenes in the Connected Consciousness.
Like I said, this is a highly speculative piece. More fuel for fanfiction though.
One thing I’d like to make clear as I close my analysis. When I talk about altering an already animated story, I’m referring to executive meddling, imposed upon the talented crew that poured all their love into this show: the EPs, the writers, the animators. You know, the whole “toys for boys” meddling issue. Imo, the show runners deserved better, just like this story. I’m simply speculating on what could have been.

Ok. I’m sorry I didn’t put this as an addition to another “realization “ post here in tumblr. (Mainly bcuz I couldn’t find any) But I just realized smth new about Voltron. To start, as a child with a lot of successful cousins and brothers and relatives in general, sometime in my life I felt like I needed to live up to them, and hence everyone in my life (included me) rarely heard phrases like “Congratulations” or “I’m proud of you” even from inside the family. So I was thinking maybe that’s what got Lance Going™ about Allura. That, by having a very big family, he didn’t get to hear validation phrases and maybe was sick of actions as a kind of love or affection language, so he found comfort in Allura’s words And that would also explain him being really insecure about his place with the paladins and how Keith’s very obvious love language (actions) wasn’t interesting for him. Anyway that’s my theory.
