So, for those who don't know, I have a video series on YouTube that demonstrates the Vocal Modes and Cross-Lingual Synthesis capabilities of Synthesizer V AI libraries, primarily to help people make purchasing decisions.
I just uploaded videos for the new child vocals, Lin Lai, and Yun Quan. Check them out if you're interested!

What is your process for tuning, if you don't mind me asking? 👉👈
idm u asking at all dw :3 i can try explain but i am So bad at explaining this stuff so bear w/ me and expect the worst LOL
so ( usually ) what i do is get some ( what i like to call ) “base” tuning done before i do anything, so pitch dips at the start and end of words etc!!
after that, i’ll add vocal modes ( so softer parts have example: gentle vocal mode, and powerful parts get power vocal mode ) after that, ill usually add some “pitch cracks” on the more powerful or emotional parts ( unsure what else to call them ) so instead of a dip when a note starts, i’ll remove any dips i added and change them so it ascends downwards onto the note like the singer is starting off on a higher note? sometimes it doesn’t work great so i’ll do notebending and take part of the note up .. i feel lke i’m explaining this poorly LOL. hold on ..
so here is what i’d personally call “base” tuning, it’s got the basics for how i’d want it to sound if i’m going for realism, this would fit for basically anything
Tumblr media
but if i want it to have more power, then i’ll do this
Tumblr media
but sometimes doing this with pitch bending doesn’t give me the desired effect or the “crack” can sound off, so i’ll note bend it instead like this
Tumblr media
im still very inexperienced with tuning so maybe i’m going abt this the wrong way but it’s what works for me LOL . i really like doing pitch cracks, it’s probably the most fun i have w tuning alongside vocal modes!! i have a LOTTT of fun wuth vocal modes and messing with tension, breathiness, gender and tone shift!!! def my fave things 2 mess w:3

i have such a love-hate relationship with hold them down. like. i detest the lyrics but i keep catching myself singing the earlier parts because goddamn is it a good song. it’s like. i can picture some of the suitors being like damn dawg is singing so well this is a bop… oh sure spoils and whatever… like its the way it’s so sinister and yet just the way it’s sung is so similar to how scylla’s voice is initially so gentle and purposefully seductive. you let yourself be led in by how sweet the song itself sounds and then the metaphors with it too…. it’s like almost beautifully manipulative. yeah sure we’ll join in this dude’s plots it just sounds like good fun. and it’s so good especially in contrast with odysseus because hold them down is just so slow and flowy. and then in odysseus you have those frequent short sounds in the background that immediately make you think of danger. but in hold them down if you weren’t paying attention you probably wouldnt realise this guy’s talking about raping the queen and killing her son to do so.

psych soundtrack is excellent for many reasons but their hottest take was every time they used early 2000s acoustic covers of classic 80s songs for the perfect convergence of vibe and motif

random note: vocal android is a musical series as y'all probably figure, so I like to think there's at least one song every episode!
....that said, once in a while the title of the episode might not correspond with the featured song lmao lmao

weirdest casualty of long Covid (besides. yk. the Incurable Disability) is in terms of linguistic processing I can truly no longer talk or sing as fast as I used to
not that I was super fast before, but one of the days I was sickest, words actually stopped... meaning anything? like I was at work, I was hitting my DT script, but was pushing through on pure muscle memory phonetically. I could process what I was hearing or reading just fine, but could not talk outside of this heavily repetitive workplace script, which is actually very dystopian now that I think about it. virus hitting the brain means I'm a zombie that can't speak except to say, "HIII :) whatcanIgetstartedferyouthismorning?"
anyway, thought it was just fatigue, but went to my car on my break, watched a trending video of people trying to rap along to Fergalicious at double speed. I could LIP SYNC to it just fine. I tested my theory. but I could NOT get my mouth and voice to work at the same time to actually sing/rap it. even now, tbh, I have to make myself NOT think about it while rapping it to get the words to flow out or I get stuck. like it's truly something in the brain for where you process speech, but not where you process just lyrical phonics like music. I have to consciously make a REAL effort to turn off the "word" part of my brain to be fast again.
I speak perfectly legibly, I can genuinely get up to decently fast normal talking speeds, just not Northeastern fast-fast. but it comes up in music a surprising amount, and it's kind of annoying to have lost as a skill.
