Journal Entry Two
I awoke this morning to John's soft sounds of discomfort. It was a moment before I remembered where I was, but then the previous night's events returned to me. I am stranded on an unknown alien world with only one know survivor of my crew other than myself, and the locals have us in their village. I admit, when I woke this morning my spirits were not high.
We were brought breakfast by an handful of locals. They were lead by an older individual who leaned on a can for support and had a greying beard and was decorated in what I could only guess was ornamentation to designate his high social status. But my eyes were not drawn to his jewels and braided wire jewelry. No. My eyes were beckoned by a flash of emerald green that reflected for a moment to dazzle the entire room in dancing green light as it passed through a beam of early morning light. The green belonged the a local girl who, instead of the standard blues of the other members of her people, had hair that was green as a rare gem and shiny as the rare spider silk thread of Homeworld IV.
Before I gathered my thoughts, her and the others set down trays of fruit and some sort of porridge and left the room. I was then alone with only the elder, who began to speak gently to me.
His language was strange to me. His voice reminded me of my days as a boy, hunting deer on the King's land for meat and scurrying home when I heard a guard to avoid arrest. And when the elder spoke some words, it almost sounded like two voices speaking at once, but the words came from his mouth alone. He must have realized I have no home of understanding, because he moved to John's side and put a hand on my companion's chest, then made a sound like rattled breathing.
I listened carefully to John's breath, my ear to his chest, and found it was true. John seemed to have fluid of some kind building in his lungs. An easy fix if I could go back to my ship and salvage medical supplies.
I attempted to explain as much, but the old man could not understand the wider galaxy's civilized speech. A minor frustration, but nothing I am not equipped to work around.
After an exchange of charades, I was allowed out of the hut, which was a blessing as the ceiling was so short I could not stand up properly.
Outside in the light of day, I was able to finally breath. The air here is rich, making it easy to feel awake and invigorated. I will have to retrieve equipment for testing, but I can see the lack of pollution and feel the high oxygen levels. I would love to know what else I am breathing.
The gravity of the world is somewhat low, which made my spirits feel lighter, and my hopes rise to the belief that I can make the best of this situation.
Once I took stock of the location, it became evident that this village was larger than my initial estimate. I expected only a few dozen, or a hundred individuals at this location. But after a short walk, I can say there are at least a thousand people living in this town.
The place is in full flood, and I speculate that as a normal seasonal occurrence, as all the streets are made of raised boardwalks, and houses are built on stilts.
A wooden wall surrounds the entirety of the village, with guard stations mounted to the top. And one thing I had to learn fairly quickly, through a complicated exchange, all washrooms are mounted on the wall. When I approached one, I expected little more than an outhouse that dumped my excrement into the water outside. Imagine my surprise to be met with genuine plumping, and pipes that took it away to a safe distance. From what I could see through the little peephole, they use an aquifer system to take sewage to fields, where I can only assume it is used to fertilize crops.
Alas I have saved the most vexing technological feature for last. Over the sky of the entire village is a dome of energy, one that looks almost as sophisticated as the energy barriers used in space faring races. This dome seems to be powered by several massive crystals that buzz with energy. I will investigate this further.
My efforts to go to my ship were in vain. Any time a local realized my intent to leave the wall, I was immediately barred from exit. Every gate was guarded by locals in grey uniforms. No amount of explaining my urgency swayed their ruling.
Eventually I went back to John, who was awake by this time. I explained the situation, and, ever a good friend, he told me to calm my nerves. He had been tended to with the strange medicine of these creatures, and for now was okay. I shall focus for now on gaining enough trust to be allowed outside of the walls of this village.

i do think like if you're not immersed in graphics and thinking about all the data flowing around between different buffers and shit that's going on inside a frame, when you see a render of a shiny box reflecting on a wall, it's like. ok and? it's a box? but there's so much nuance to the way light floods through an environment. and so much ingenuity in finding out what we can fake and precompute and approximate, to get our imaginary space to have that same gorgeous feeling of 'everything reflects off everything else'.
light is just one example, but I think all the different systems of feedback interactions in the world are just so juicy. geology is full of them. rocks bouncing up isostatically as the glaciers flow off them. spreading ridges and stripes of magnetic polarity revealing themselves. earthquakes ringing across the world. clouds forming around mountain peaks, giving rise to forests and deserts. soil being shaped by erosion, directing future water into channels. biological evolution!! I turned away from earth sciences many years ago, to pursue maths and physics and later art and now computer programming, but all of these things link up and inform the thing I'm doing at the moment.
sometimes you try to directly recreate the underlying physics, sometimes you're just finding mathematical shapes that feel similar: fractal noise that can be evaluated in parallel, pushed through various functions, assigned materials, voxellised and marching cubesed and pushed onto the gpu, shaded and offset by textures, and in the end, it looks sorta like grass. an island that will be shaped further as the players get their hands on it.
it's all just a silly game about hamsters shooting missiles. and yet when you spend this long immersed in a project, so much reveals itself. nobody will probably ever think about these details as much as I have been. and yet I hope something of that comes across.
they say of the Bevy game engine that everyone's trying to make a voxel engine or tech demo instead of an actual game. but in a way, I love that. making your own personal voxel engine is a cool game, for you.

AIM YOUR GUITAR AT THE STARS! IT'S SHOWTIME! Hey everyone, I'm currently doing an IndieGoGo campaign to fund an 11 minute pilot animatic for my project, STARSTRUCK!
Starstruck follows the misadventures of Harper Hiiragi, a musician from Earth who works as a PA to the biggest alien rockstar in the universe, Azrael Phazer! Along with her cynical stage tech friend, Court Voxel, Harper must deal with missing alien pets, rival punk gangs, and most perilous of all, getting coffee!
We recorded this pilot years ago with a wonderful cast that includes Jenny Yokobori (Hello Kitty, Genshin Impact, The Simpsons) along with Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez of Starkid fame! Our crew is also brimming with fresh new talent who will be lead by seasoned director Neil Graf (Gravity Falls, UniKitty, The Great North)! If you'd like to donate and find out more info about our project, you can do so HERE! If you can't donate, reblogs are encouraged, as they help spread the word!
Thanks!

Because I'm nosy... I would like to see all of those questions answered for Cora. But how about all of them with the number 5? ☺️
AHHH!!! Thank you for leaving me questions!!! Answered all the 5s under the cut!!
5) What is their highest skill? Lowest?
Cora is a high intelligence and luck with low strength and charisma! She's good at science, sneaky, and repair type skills! Also good with robotics and explosives. Her mind for traps and fixing broken things is strong. Also she's lucky to a funny and accidental degree. She tends to save the right NPCs and find the right clues and assets needed to complete quests. Like after escaping her Vault, she happens to steal the right items that would later convince Cooper to travel with her when she hires him. Cora, however, is not very strong so the heavy lifting needs some engineering. And she WILL fail every speech check. Her Vault did not teach her to lie. Lying was rebellion. And she's too quick to anger to convince and pacify in dialogue.
15) What is their proudest moment / accomplishment?
Cora was really proud of the time she broke into a classroom to retrieve her little sister's drawing that was torn up by the Overseer. She was caught and he struck her for lying but her rebelling even in such a small way went for miles to the person she is today. She was sorta finding her fight down there.
25) Are they quick to trust others?
NOOOOOO. My girl has been jerked around and hurt by others who she was supposed to trust way way too much for that. Vault and Wasteland. She might be a lil gullible but she understands humans. Even when her and Cooper stay in a friendly settlement, she's on edge when Cooper's wounded bc she didn't trust these people to care for a Ghoul. Luckily, they did. But, she was on the alert to start punching until they convinced her to settle.
35) Do they have power armor training? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Bahaha, no and never. She associates power armor with the BoS and hates their guts.
45) Do they have any specific hobbies or talents?
Cora has a few!! She's good with all tech/mech related things so she loves fixing random things from automations to toasters haha. She's been good at that since her Vault even if it went unnoticed and not appreciated. And she loves to read after being the Vault librarian for escape! She's also a good singer and p good at sewing, both those skills from her mother.
55) Are they past, present, or future oriented?
Future for SURE! Cora has so so many dreams through the fic, even just settling somewhere safe she can call home. They really kept her going when things felt hopeless.
65) Describe their living space. (How do they decorate it? Does it have running water and/or electricity? Etc.)
Cora is that video game protag who hoards random things. She wasn't allowed to really decorate her room in her Vault with everything being so strict and regulated. And then she's on the run across the Wasteland with no home after BUT upon settling, she'd decorate her home/shop in trinkets and string lights!!! She'd have the BEST time too.
TYSM AGAIN VOXEL!!!!!!

Not to be horny on main, but uh, sorry to everyone in the discord who heard me yapping about this.
Anyways, here's a snippet! I'll explore my thoughts on programs off-grid a little bit more in the future (basically a person stuffed with y2k style tech), and I'm still figuring out how to characterize these two.
Also, notion has the asterisk italic thing, and because I'm copying this over on my phone, I'm not fixing it for tumblr.
Objectophilia, voyeurism, and Sam/Tron below.
This felt too intimate to watch, but it was the kind of intimacy that Tron was needing, craving. He had done sexual acts with the User, of course, but he never allowed himself the intimacy. After all, ripping a program into an analogue and fleshy world rarely has expected outcomes. He wasn’t fully human. He wasn’t human in the first place, but his body now had an amalgamation of ports and circuits along with flesh. He couldn’t allow Sam to see that. Maybe it was more tolerable in the Grid knowing that there was effectively nothing, just voxels, under his skin. He didn’t dare show him what he looked like now underneath compression shirts and leggings.
There’s an interesting thing about humans. They like things that look closer to them, they care more for things that looked human as well. Tron didn’t question Sam’s affection. No, he didn’t, but he was afraid of himself. He didn’t want to disturb Sam. Humans get skittish about things perceived as other.
But then what was this? What was he seeing?
Sam’s hand gripped the tank tightly while the other gripped the exhaust pipe as he ground his hips into the vinyl seat. He threw his head back and took in breaths of the dusty garage air with parted lips. His skin was red down to where it disappeared underneath his shirt. Small sounds that made their way from his throat echoed in the concrete space. Tron watched his fingers slip into the exhaust and slid them along the walls of it. Sam dipped his head down and huffed.
“Come on,” he whispered. His fingers came back smudged and dirtied by the exhaust build up, but it didn’t seem to slow him down as he reached to the side and wiped his fingers on a rag. “Fuck, yeah. Yeah, come on. Make me.”
Tron felt his stomach flip, though not unpleasantly. His circuits itched and burned. He only hoped that they weren’t bright enough to give him and his voyeurism away. How long had he been doing this? How long had he been in here getting off on the glossy paint of the tank? Did he do this before? Silently, Tron touched the circuit line on his forearm. It didn’t carry the same welcome sting as a User’s touch, but it quelled the burning. The line glowed under his touch. Something in him begged him to keep watching, even if it was wrong, with the passion of a creature kept on a leash. His mind supplied him with curiosity and perverse images.
He needs to be on that thing. Where did that thought come from? Doesn’t matter. His mind was already running with it. That was something fun about having a fleshy brain adjacent to a computer in his skull. Minds had a tendency to just run. Right now, it took that thought and pulled it along into new places. He needed to be on that with Sam, to sit slotted between him and the bike, to have his fingers dipping into his ports like he dipped into the exhaust and pulled out grime.
Sam’s back rippled as he gripped the tank and leaned far enough forward to get his hand around the chassis. He worked his hips into the seat with a death grip on the frame. Sam appeared to be lost in thought, unaware of anything outside of the garage as he panted and rocked.
“Come on—” Sam groaned again lifting himself up and down into the seam between the seat and the contoured tank. Did he have any idea how he looked?
Tron could almost imagine he was talking to him, calling out to *him,* begging *him* to make him spill over the glossy finish. Tron wanted to step forward, to force him down and make him know that he was watching, wanted to feel that sticky release on his circuits making him light headed, wanted to hear him groan. Maybe his predatory security software was still in him. Maybe. Who knows?

Metaverse NFT Marketplace Development Company: Build Next-Gen Digital Platforms
Imagine stepping into a lively digital world where art, avatars, and virtual land feel real. As an NFT Marketplace development company, we help you build easy-to-use, immersive marketplaces backed by secure blockchain tech. Let’s see how you can bring next-gen digital platforms to life in a way that’s both fun and reliable.
What is Metaverse NFT Marketplace?
An NFT Marketplace development company creates virtual hubs where people can trade one-of-a-kind tokens in 3D spaces. Instead of clicking through flat web pages, you wander through a virtual gallery, admire digital artwork or in-game items from every angle, and buy with just a tap. Under the hood, smart contracts on the blockchain handle each sale, making sure ownership is clear, secure, and unchangeable. With more artists and brands joining in, these interactive marketplaces are changing how we discover, collect, and enjoy digital treasures.
How Does the Metaverse NFT Marketplace Work?
Think of it like shopping online, but in a 3D world. You link your crypto wallet, like MetaMask or WalletConnect, to sign in. Then you explore listings shown as 3D models or digital land plots. When you decide to buy, a smart contract automatically transfers the token to you and updates the blockchain right away. Creators “mint” items by turning their digital work into a unique NFT token. Thanks to auctions and live bidding, prices can flex up or down, and royalty rules ensure artists earn a cut every time their NFT is resold. The result? Fewer middlemen, lower fees, and total transparency.
Key Features of Metaverse NFT Marketplace
Building a standout metaverse marketplace starts with the right features:
Decentralized Architecture: No single owner controls everything, so users truly own their assets.
Cross-Chain Compatibility: Thanks to bridges, you can trade tokens from Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and more, all in one place.
Interactive 3D Displays: High-quality renders let you spin and zoom items just like you would in a real gallery.
Avatar Customization: Craft your own avatar and trade skins, outfits, or accessories as NFTs.
Virtual Real Estate: Buy, build, and earn from digital plots—think shops, event spaces, or galleries.
Integrated Wallet Services: Smooth, built-in support for popular nft marketplace development service providers makes buying and selling a breeze.
Security First: Layers of protection DDoS shields, two-factor authentication, and audited smart contracts keep everything safe.
Reliable Storage: IPFS and Filecoin ensure your digital files stay accessible and unchangeable.
If you need a quicker setup, our white label nft marketplace development packages give you a ready-made template that you can brand and launch fast.
Benefits of Metaverse NFT Marketplace Development
Launching a Metaverse NFT Marketplace brings a host of strategic benefits:
Deeper Engagement: Interactive 3D worlds keep people exploring longer, which boosts sales.
Multiple Revenue Streams: You earn from initial sales, secondary royalties, and platform fees.
Global Reach: Anyone, anywhere, can join, no borders, no limits.
Brand Innovation: A custom virtual space makes your brand stand out and feel cutting-edge.
Scalable Architecture: Add new features like live events or mini-games, without starting over.
Immutable Trust: Blockchain’s clear records build confidence, cutting down on disputes.
Partnering with an experienced NFT Marketplace development company helps you make the most of these perks.
Popular Metaverse NFT Marketplace Platforms
Here are some trailblazers showing what’s possible:
Decentraland: Famous for its land auctions and community events.
The Sandbox: A voxel-style world with easy-to-use tools for creators.
Cryptovoxels: Simple browser access meets creative freedom for galleries and meetups.
Somnium Space: Gorgeous graphics and VR support for full immersion.
OpenSea (3D Previews): Known for 2D NFTs, now adding 3D views so you can see items in virtual spaces.
Each platform highlights different ways to mix art, gaming, socializing, and shopping in the metaverse.
Why Choose Justtry Technologies for Metaverse NFT Marketplace Development?
Partnering with Justtry Technologies, a top NFT Marketplace development company, means getting more than code. cities advanced enough to have radio probably are also advanced enough to have live descriptors of performance events for blind audiences. It isn't too much of a leap to do the same over the radio.
So it would sound less like old human radio shows, and more like audiobook readings.
do they have memes
XD gonna be honest I didn't expect this one.
They do not have anything like the internet. In fact, they do not have any form on long range communication. (some areas *may* have short range radio)
So they would not have memes in the same format as us, but they do have jokes about popular things. (Think Shakespeare style memes: where you'll say or draw something popular and funny. So a performance meme???? idk.)
But, I *have* MADE a meme about a voxel!

This is inspired by a scene from Liithal's fic.

got to play splatoon 3 recently on my friend's switch, first time playing any splatoon game. damn is this game polished to fuck?? like it's crazy how they cooked up this whole aesthetic of like, post-apoc graffiti cephalopds almost fully formed when splatoon 1 came out. i love their little floppy hands gesture.
so i have only played a bit - first couple islands of single player and enough multi to get to level 4. but already it's a really fun shooter, easy to understand but with a good amount of depth. the way the map painting mechanic interacts with mobility and stealth is great.
tech art-wise, i am pretty sure I can see how they're doing the map painting mechanic visually, it's got a signed distance field kinda smell, weapons blit a mask texture onto that dynamic paint map - simple and it works so well, and then they add a bit of extra style by having the ink drip down vertical surfaces. it's very seamless across objects so i wonder how the texture is mapped? maybe it's voxels! or maybe they create a special inkable surface mesh for the whole level with its own UVs?
the motion controls took a little getting used to but they are quite effective for solving the controller aiming problem. the device I'm on has a very drifty left stick, which made some precision movement a bit hard, but mostly not an issue. the way you move between kid and squid to go up vertical surfaces is very intuitive to pick up, you get a great rhythm of ink and swim.
also! the way the ink substitutes for blood so you can have a really messy splattery battle without it being 'gory'. like. it's simply satisfying when things are wet. ingenious.
