Could i request some headcannons with the knight, hornet and quirrel with a reader who is lost in deepnest and is too hurt and anxious to find a way out alone? (May or may not be talking from experience lol)
Lowkey going through this too every time I fall into that area <3
...............
Knight/Ghost
While on their quest to break Herrah's seal, they see you trying to fight off a swarm of infected weavers, your nail flailing about.
One second, you thought nobody would find your body among the dozens strung up above you...and the next, the beasts were all wiped out with one vengeful spirit that soared over your head.
At first you panicked, then you recognized Ghost's face and sighed in relief.
"Thank the stars you're here! I-I was so scared..." Your voice shakes. "I just..fell into this nest and I haven't been able to escape since. The more I run, the more lost I get..and...and these monsters won't leave me alone! A-And the worst part? I keep seeing somebody that looks like me!"
"........"
"A-Ah, I'm sorry. I forgot. You aren't one for words. Are you scared, too?"
Again, they don't answer you, which makes you wonder how their shell doesn't crawl at the sight of distant spiders scaling up their webs, or the garapedes burrowing along, pinchers waiting to snatch up any prey possible.
Ghost gestures for you to follow them, and you do, as you couldn't trust anybody else here in Deepnest--not even the own ground beneath your feet.
At some point, you come across the hidden Weaver den, and you nearly scream at the sight of the bigger spiders.....only to find out they aren't alive.
Meanwhile, the knight climbs up to their nest, discovering a charm called Weaversong.
As you're both leaving, part of you swore there was a living Weaver staring at you before it dashes away into the darkness--but you shake it off as nerves.
Ghost leads you to a hot spring, which you didn't even know was even here, and the soul-infused waters heal your injuries, but you're still quite anxious.
They're sorting out their charms, equipping Weaversong, and you jump when little weaverlings pop out and start running around their legs--only to see that they were actually harmless and could protect you both.
You even got to take one as a companion, helping you slowly overcome your fear of Deepnest.
Hornet
The moment she felt Herrah die by the Knight's hand, she was there in a flash, in the belly of the Beast's Den.
She fell to her knees in silent mourning, at the altar that was once her mother's resting place. Although she understood what had to be done, it didn't make it hurt any less.
After shooing away Ghost, she's quiet, contemplating....
Then she hears a scream and springs into action quickly, only to find you waving around a nail, cornered by a Sleeping Devout.
She has no idea how you've gotten this far into Deepnest, since you looked pitifully terrified and didn't know how to wield your weapon properly.
But regardless, she felt obligated to save you.
As it opens its shell to attack you with its massive steel claws, suddenly glowing threads are wrapped around it, and it shrieks, trying to close itself back up--but to no avail.
You see a figure no taller than you cloaked in red, shouting at you to finish it off.
At that point, your nail takes over and you slash at the creature's face until it finally stops shrieking and struggling, falling dead to the ground as a shriveled-up corpse.
You try to thank Hornet, but only get a single syllable out before she sweeps your leg, sending you tumbling to the ground, pointing the needle at your face.
"How careless can you be?! You've stained this sacred resting place with blood, and disrupted its silence with your pitiful screaming. It's shameful. Who are you and what is your purpose here?"
She really humbled you, but after explaining that you were simply lost within Deepnest...she backs off a little, seeing that you aren't a threat.
She still can't fathom how you've gotten this far without dying, but she understands how easily one can lose their way down here, so she does offer to lead you out.
You're in a lot of pain, though, and wouldn't be able to handle one more fight with an aggressive bug. So she takes you to the hot springs that you didn't even know existed down here.
It's there that you turn the questions on her (in a more polite and nervous way, of course), and she goes quiet...before explaining the Knight's recent actions.
"Oh..she was your mother? I'm sorry to hear that.."
"Don't be. We never had much time to truly bond, and yet...when I felt her seal breaking..." Hornet falls silent again, putting a hand to her chest. But then she steels her resolve, shaking her head. "No matter. What's done is done. I'm sure that little Ghost is on their way to the [temple/next Dreamer]. We really need to get going. Are you well-rested?"
She sounds like a concerned mother, or maybe she was just tired of hanging around her old home....or tired of you.
But regardless, you don't take it personally. You're just grateful to have the company of someone who wasn't afflicted by the infection.
So wherever she goes, you'll be sure to follow.......or at least until you're safely out of Deepnest, then you'll be fine if she wanted to go separate ways.
Quirrel
In all of Deepnest, the one place where you felt truly safe was within the soul hot spring.
Not a single creature here was interested in the area, so it was your only sanctuary from the surrounding horrors.
So to find a fellow bug warrior, uninfected, sitting in the healing waters was a surprise. But you were grateful to see a friendly face.
"Hello, hello!" His voice is gentle as he greets you, lifting his mask up a bit. "What a thrill this is. To find such warm comfort amidst the den of beasts, isn't it?"
"Y-Yeah, um...ouch...my legs are killing me.."
Right away, Quirrel could sense your unease and pain, although it didn't take a genius to know you've barely escaped from a scuffle with dirtcarvers.
After introducing yourself, you explained to him how you got lost in Deepnest and were scared out of your mind, almost forgetting the way back to this hot spring.
"Ah, I understand. It's easy to get turned around in this labyrinth of silk. Without proper guidance, an adventure into the unknown can turn deadly."
You weren't sure if he was trying to comfort you or lecture you, but you listen anyways, not being able to trust anyone else right now.
He asks if you've heard about the village deep within the nest...and you look at him as though he has three heads.
"N-No, I'm not...did you come here to find that village? Out of your own free will???" You shudder. "How did you even get down here? Do you know the way out or are we doomed to-?"
"Breathe easy, my friend." He hums in concern. "It's no good to panic in a place of serenity. If you'd like, I can certainty show you the quickest way out of this ferocious place. It's understandably frightening for the ill-prepared."
Again, you felt like he was lecturing you, but you accept his offers of help.
Anything to get out of this place and back to the comforts of the surface.

assigning some gravity falls characters hollow knight charm builds (for this we’re assuming they have access to all charms and that they’re doing casual playthroughs)
mabel - grubsong, weaversong, glowing womb, shape of unn, unbreakable heart, grimmchild (friend build, unbreakable heart adds health, is fun wordplay, and uh. rip leg eater. she just wanted to help him find love :[ friend of grubs, friend of weaverlings, friend of giant slug deity, don’t tell her about the grimm troupe lore, she knows, shhh. friend of grimmchild)
dipper - sharp shadow, hiveblood, soul catcher, stalwart shell, steady body (charms that he thinks are cool, plus he thinks they’re good probably maybe. sharp shadow lets you damage enemies when dashing through them, and it increases the length of your dash, which is good right? that’s good? he thinks it’s good. hiveblood regenerates the most recent health you lost. takes a bit, but still. good for white palace! …ignore that he doesn’t have any white fragments. soul catcher for soul, everybody loves soul charms. stalwart shell is really good because…it just is, trust him. steady body gets rid of knockback! sometimes he accidentally walks into the enemy because he forgets he has it on, but still!)
ford - voidheart, lifeblood heart, shaman stone, dream wielder, mark of pride, spell twister (more distanced attacks, more spell-based, had to give him at least one lifeblood charm because. come on. voidheart because he seems like the type to spend a lot of time exploring, plus its required to kill the radiance. i don’t think he would like the white lady. i think he would like the resting grounds, and especially the spirit’s glade. he likes seer’s little area and her design. he likes talking to her. he likes seer in general. he relates to the vessels. vvvvoidheart)
stan - quickslash, mark of pride, fury of the fallen, unbreakable strength (FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT. he’d be the type to damage tank. he sees the description for fury of the fallen and goes ‘oh fuck yeah’ and equips it half for the smidge of story and half for the actual effect. he likes the red overlay, he thinks it looks neat. quickslash means he can hit more quickly, mark of pride means he reach enemies to hit them more quickly, unbreakable strength means he can fuck them up even better. ford lets him know how to get all the pale ore so he can fully upgrade his nail. mabel makes him get the happy couple achievement afterwards. he’s certainly not complaining)
soos - carefree melody, grubberfly’s elegy, spore shroom, thorns of agony, dashmaster, sprintmaster (‘useless charms? nah, dude, they helped me beat pantheon five’. soos is a force to be reckoned with. carefree melody because melody, and sprintmaster and dashmaster reminded him of ford and stan and he thought that was neat enough to keep them on)
pacifica - weaversong, quick focus, unbreakable heart, gathering swarm, dream wielder, longnail (mabel gives her a few tips, hence unbreakable heart and longnail, but mostly her charms are based off aesthetics. she likes the way quick focus and dream wielder look, and she likes the way gathering swarm looks in use. weaversong was originally added because of mabel, but she ended up keeping it because it’s useful. yep, that’s it. definitely not because the little weaveringlings follow her around everywhere to the point of teleporting to the knight middair, and their slashes don’t do much but they’re trying their best, and they settle down to rest when the knight benches, and they were left behind by the rest of the weavers and- no, definitely not any of that)
bill cipher - wayward compass, dreamshield, balder shell, kingsoul (if you know, you know)

nkg with weaver damage only, no other charms
DAY 150 - Attuned Nightmare King Grimm
Charms used: Weaversong. Suggested by anon. Feel free to suggest skins, charm builds, or bosses! :)
okay i know this was probably supposed to be a nail-less run, but only being able to deal damage using the weaverlings wasent really reliable at all, it would be fine with basically any other boss, but nkg keeps moving and teleporting way too much so the weavers could barely even hit him, and given nkg has 1250 hp, that would be more of a endurance test than a fight sorry i couldnt really complete the challenge folk
#i could only get him to 50% health after like 8 minutes of fighting with only the weavers#so like#how would i even upload that#hk#hollow knight#silksong#boss fight#boss battle#hk grimm#hollow knight grimm#nightmare king grimm#hk nkg#nkg#troupe master grimm

Thinking about making a custom skin for Hollow Knight, but as a TF2 character. I want to stick with the 9 mercs since that’ll be easier than adding in the other characters, but now comes the question:
A little more information below the cut:
For TF2 fans who don’t know Hollow Knight, this is the playable character known as the Knight.

I’m not thinking about turning the entire character into a small version of a red merc, but instead make them dress up like one of the mercs. This would mean that I would probably add on hats or stuff to make it clear who they are. The reason why I’m choosing red mercs is because that’s what Valve always uses for marketing.
I’ll probably change anything I can, including weaverlings, hatchlings, and maybe even some charms.
With the chosen merc as the Knight, I will also edit other bosses and characters as either other mercs, blue mercenaries, or other characters in the game (ex. Ms. Pauling, Administrator, Saxton, etc.).
I won’t change too much about the lore of the game or anything else, but I could edit the nail of the chosen merc knight to whatever weapon they have.
Characters that I’m already thinking of editing will be Hornet, Broken Vessel, Grimm, Bretta, Zote, Cloth, and any others, really!
Besides, you can suggest mercs as any other Hollow Knight characters! Just because your favorite merc didn’t get in doesn’t mean they won’t be edited in!

So something that hit me. The Weaversong Charm "Song of Farewell, left by the Weavers... Summons Weaverlings to give the lonely bearer some companionship and protection." Absolutely was specifically left for Hornet. I'm not sure if Ghost has put it together. I know that Hornet hasn't and Hollow I think has. Which is my lead up to saying that if Zuko ever ends up with the charm for whatever reason the Weaverlings deciding that a snuggle pile is best defense against loneliness ends with shrieking.
Hornet and Ghost both know Weaversong was made for Hornet at this point, although Hornet didn't know of its existence until Ghost gave her the charm since she avoided visiting the Weaver's Den after the Infection set in. Too lonely and empty without the Weavers in it.
Ghost only gave her the charm after she told them about some of her childhood in the Den when Hollow had first left the Black Egg Temple and was mostly not with it while recovering. This is also when Ghost gave the Hiveblood charm to Hornet and Stalwart Shell, Deep Focus, and Quick Focus to Hollow.
I had to cut a scene from an early draft of chapter 9 that had Hornet wearing Weaversong and Zuko freaking out because of the weaverlings everywhere. I've been trying to find a way to slip it back in to torment Zuko :). Hornet doesn't really want to ever use the charm for combat though, but she might slip it on for comfort at some point.

🔥 Troupe Master Grimm 🔥
The hot dad himself! remember to bow at the start. (just tilt the joystick down to look at the floor.)

Tactics Tool Belt: (link to tactics glossary here) Visual cue, Acrobatics, Walk don't run
Dance Moves
Sky Drill
Grimm: appears in midair in a drill shape, shoots down towards you, then dashes toward you on the ground.
You: big jump, then either 1) go towards where he came from or 2) smack him in the head.

Fire Bats
Grimm: standing straight, opens his cloak at a right angle, and three fire bats fly out! pew, pew pew!
You: big jump, then dash towards him.

If you get too close to him before he fires off all the bats, he’ll teleport behind you, then fire off one more bat.

Cloak Swoosh
Grimm: 1. leans away, then slashes towards you with a big C-shaped downward swipe. 2. makes another C-shaped swipe upwards, then rains fireballs from above.
You: walk away until he swipes upwards, then walk back to where you started.
if you have shade cloak: dash through him, then walk back to where you started. easier to manage the distance that way.

Visual cue: The difference between the start of Fire Bats and Cloak Swoosh can be hard to tell at first! with Fire Bats, he’s standing up tall, and with Cloak Swoosh, he’s leaning away in an S-shaped posture. S for Swoosh.

Ground Spikes
Grimm: appears in an A shape, looking up. twisty spikes appear on the ground.
You: walk just a step or two to get in between two spikes. The spikes don't cause damage until they get tall.

Balloon Time
Grimm: appears in midair in a big balloon shape and starts emitting fireballs in all directions.
You: 1. get in position, then 2. jump in a loop to navigate the fireballs.
Acrobatics: This one’s complicated, i won’t lie! but it’s doable. I’ll explain the process from the left side, but you can do the same on the right side as well.
1. get in position: as soon as the balloon appears, go stand about ¼ of the way from the left wall of the arena. Standing in that spot on the floor, you only need to pay attention to three fireball lanes.

fireballs will come down the lanes in stacks, in one of five possible patterns: 100, 110, 101, 011, 001

2. jump in a loop: as the fireballs come towards you, jump up and slightly to the left. as you reach the top of the jump, go towards the right, so that you jump in a 0-shaped path and land where you started. depending on the fireball pattern, you’ll either do a big jump or a small jump for your loop.

for 011: do a big jump. for 101 and 001 : do a small jump by briefly tapping the jump button (I didn’t even know you could jump just a little until i met Grimm!). for 100 and 110, just stay still.
Grimm will do Balloon Time three times: when his health is at ¾, ½, and ¼ left. it’s a nice way to track how much health he has.
Other actions (nothing you need to do):
Scuttle: Sometimes if you’re too close to him, Grimm will scuttle away before resuming his attack.
Stagger: Grimm will burst into a cloud of black bats, one with big red eyes (that’s him).

Healing Spots
during Ground Spikes.
during Fire Bats: if you have Shape of Unn, you can wiggle under the bats! or if you do a big jump over the first bat, you can heal when you land on the ground- the second and third bats fly over you, aiming for where you were during your jump.
Hitting Spots
during Fire Bats: once you hop over the bats, you can get a couple hits in before he disappears.
during Sky Drill: slash down as he lunges under you.
during Ground Spikes: fire off a spell towards him.
Recommended Charms
Shape of Unn, for healing during Fire Bats
Stalwart Shell, for surviving Balloon Time
Extras
If you bow to him at the start, the grimmkin will clap for you! If you hit him instead, he’ll yell at you and give you an extra Balloon Time for your insolence. if you brought weaverlings, make sure to scoot away so they don’t hit him either.

"A silken charm, a memento, a reminder of who once lived in these halls before departing for their home. Perhaps a new wielder can have some company..."
Featured song: Deepnest
Day 5 of Familiaugust with 'Three's a Set' brings the Weaverlings of Hollow Knight!
Found with the Weaversong Charm, these fells do excellent chip damage to anything they hit, and are-- of course-- cute buddies to have around when you're in need of some companions. I've always liked little fellas you can summon, whether or not they're for combat purposes.
#familiaugust#hk#hollow knight#weaverlings#fanart#honestly this pic reminded me that i lowkey missed digital painting#even if i am not that good at it#and this was also done better since i got out of a bit of a rough time art-wise#so this is nice#silksong maybe soon?

Hornet the Protector
Fandom: Hollow Knight, AU
Name: Hornet Age: 20-25 Species: Wyrm/Weaver/Beast Height: 4’2" Weight: ??? She/Her/Hers
She had a change of heart about Ghost after finding our how terrified of their own shade they were, as well as they’re intentions to be more focused on plants than fighting her. So she leaves Ghost with a warning after they finally managed to deal with their shade. She lurks around Greenpath and watches from afar until something comes up she has to deal with.
She’s the sole protector of Hallownest. She deals with anyone coming to the kingdom, if they wish to do more damage or take rule, she stops them. The infection has to be dealt with first. She’s not going to let her mother’s sacrifice be in vain.
Her weapon of choice is her needle, using high quality silk to act as a lead so she can pull it back. She also carries several spiked traps that she’ll lay out using silk. Her other weapons include several daggers, various silk traps, and what ever she can use if she needs more to fight with.
She can use soul, as being part Wyrm. This is a last resort. You get her to use soul, you're dead.
Finding her is hard, but catching up to her and getting her to stop is even harder. If you run into, you better hope she’s in a good mood or you have a good reason for bugging her.
She’s the one who has the weaverling charm on this blog. In most cases, she will not know they are in there until something happens for them to come out, they can go to and from the charm by choice, but to be set free in the first place they need a reason, a big one. That’s how the charm works.
She sports her red cloak and her needle, charm pinned to the cloak. She’s got spider fangs under her mask, if she shows them you’ll likely going to die or you’re already dead. Unless its to scare someone off. She has a shoulder bag and one she slings over her shoulder. She moves her things in that, from one hiding spot to the next. You’ll never find them, she does this to patrol areas in sections. She won’t venture very far from her camp unless there is a need to.
The weaverlings don’t have names and speak in spider, so only Hornet or another spider can understand them. There are three of them and they stay close to Hornet. (Only around in RPs after she finds out the charm actually works!)
I'll get her a ref soon but she's pretty but the same as the game. The only difference is that due to being part Wyrm, she has wings! Three sets, she keeps them tied down and out of the way, as to not get them damaged. You see them, you die.

me playing hollow knight update: i've been stuck on pantheon of the sage for over a day atp because of zote to the point i switched my charms to grimmchild and the weaverlings and with that set up i FINALLY beat him for the first time,,, except i made the grievous miscalculation of bringing the grimmchild into the uumuu fight. the one with exploding jellyfish. um.
#i was also stuck on godtamer in godhome for a bit but i got better w/ them and can now beat that one pretty consistently#ooh also i did radiant mantis lords hitless as well as troupe master. that was awesome#gpz is just the one boss i cannot get the hang of no matter what to the point i was genuinely considering restarting my 110% run#text#should i have a tag for this#uhhhh#me when i play video games

there should be a steel soul mode where you're trying to complete the game faster than weaverlings they still have zoomies and are invincible but deal just as much damage as you do with or without nail upgrades they should steal charms and spells and other items and leave nothing but webs behind Hornet will befriend them instead of you (team spiders <3) and if certain conditions are met they will lock you in the Zote basement until you win all ten fights

dream shield, weaver song, grub song. You get soul from being damaged and the weaverlings, which you can use to heal, and only heal, as healing speeds up the dream shields spin, you could also throw dream wielder on there for dream nail if you want, I'd suggest nosk as a boss just because that sounds tricky. No nail, no spells, only healing.
DAY 151 - Attuned Nosk
Charms used: Dreamshield, Weaversong, Grubsong, Dream Wielder. Suggested by @twoastricts Feel free to suggest skins, charm builds, or bosses! :)
ooh this one was indeed a bit tricky and creative, i liked it!

Pantheon of the Master you can turtle through with Stalwart Shell (2 notches), Spore Shroom (1 notch), Quick Focus (3 notches), Shape of Unn (2 notches), Weaversong (2 notches) and Grubsong (1 notch).
This build does make Uumuu somewhat harder since the weaverlings will trigger the Ooma, but all nine other bosses become pretty easy if you just keep healing.
I do not recommend continuing this build into Pantheon of the Knight though, since it is a bit ineffective against the plethora of double mask hits in that gauntlet. Instead, it at that point comes down to your playstyle and finding the charms that best facilitate that.
When I first beat the Pantheon of Hallownest, I used Unbreakable Strength, Unbreakable Heart, Shape of Unn, Quick Focus and Grubsong. This is a heal build, although not one that locks as hard into turtling.
Some general charm recommendations that may or may not fit your style:
Fragile/Unbreakable Strength (fits all builds): This is probably the best charm in the late game. It fits in nail builds for obvious reasons, but even heal or spell builds benefit, since your primary source of soul is hitting enemies with the nail. And if you're gonna do that anyways, might as well get 50% extra damage for each such hit.
Fragile/Unbreakable Heart (fits all builds): Not as useful in the lategame as in the early game, but the added leeway of two extra masks is not to be underestimated. Mistakes have a tendency to cascade, so giving a better threshold for you to recover mentally and reset the situation (before then going back to healing) is rather good.
Carefree Melody (fits all builds): Mathematically, this charm gives an average of about 22.46% percent block chance, which means its equivalent to about +28.97% extra health. But if you have nine masks, that's equivalent to about 2.6 extra masks (3.2 if you have 11). At three notches, this might seem less efficient than Heart, but a key strength of Carefree Melody is that whenever it does trigger, you also don't have to heal. So that +28.97% extra health is effectively also a +28.97% extra healing. Crucially though, most players will have Grimmchild instead of Carefree Melody on the first save they do Pantheons in, so this might not be an option.
Shaman Stone (primarily spell builds): Best charm in the game period. It might pretend it only gives your Shade Soul +50% damage, but the larger hitbox often turns single hits into double hits, in which case it's more like +200% damage. AbsRad you might also hit with Abyss Shriek quite often, so Shaman Stone's +50% going from 80 to 120 damage is also quite hefty. And of course, extra damage on Descending Dark also adds up if you make a habit of using that spell to gain i-frames.
Shape of Unn (primarily heal builds): Having the ability to scooch to the side a bit while healing can go a long way. Healing with this charm also makes your hitbox smaller for the duration of the Focus, which allows you to sometimes low profile attacks you otherwise couldn't. In some cases that's down to your judgement (the height an AbsRad sword is above the ground). In other cases, it's absolutely free. Notably: the low profile granted by this charm allows you to evade the horizontal lunges done by the Mantis Lords and Sisters of Battle, as well as Grimm's Fire Bats for completely free while focusing, turning attacks you'd otherwise have to avoid into healing opportunities.
Grubsong (fits all builds): 15 soul each time you get hit is pretty good. That's a bit less than half of a spell or focus, and over the course of a fight it definitely adds up, making this quite good for being a one slot charm. Obviously, you shouldn't plan on getting hit, but unless you're a god at the game, you definitely will be.
Quick Slash (primarily nail builds): Hitting faster is really good for nail builds. That being said, this charm can also be used for soul oriented builds because of the secondary effect that hitting faster also allows you to generate soul faster. They had to nerf this charm, and it's still pretty good post nerf (fun fact, people who had it equipped before the nerf get to keep its old notch cost so long as they never unequip it).
Quick Focus (primarily heal builds): Focus is the most vulnerable state in the game. Heal faster = less time spent vulnerable.
Mark of Pride: (primarily nail builds): Extra reach means extra safety as you go about your business.
Soul Eater (primarily spell builds): Probably the only four slot charm you'll see me recommend for combat, since the soul gain with this charm is quite massive. Personally though, I use it mostly for Hall of Gods, not Pantheons, since I tend to overcharm with it.
Dreamwielder (fits all builds): This is more for the early pantheons, I recommend taking it off in the lategame. But massively sped up Dream Nail animation + 66 focus on a succesful Dream Nail is pretty good.
Spell Twister (primarily Spell Builds): Instead of upping your soul generation, lower the cost of casting spells. All the same benefits, plus an extra cast from a full tank, no benefits for healing though.
Tips for pantheon charm builds? I'm currently kinda stuck on p3
