I love your analysis! I think there should be an AU/story where Necrobat tries to separate himself from Sigma’s legacy/crimes, but is hunted down because of his origin. Also, what’s your opinion on manga!Web Spider?
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! And I agree, and AU focusing on Dark Necrobat attempting to be his own person would be interesting! It would be a good chance to examine how people, both in the context of Mega Man and real life, can have trouble separating the child from the parent. It would also explain why he takes the actions he does in X5. Rejected by the Hunters and society, but also wanting nothing to do with his father. As a result, he ends up becoming a maverick for his own sake (or maybe, the virus gets a hold of him, and he never had a shot in the first place). As for Manga!Web Spider, from what I can gather about him, he seems to be a perfect example of why Repliforce's mission didn't work out. What I mean by this is that, despite not being infected with the virus, he takes actions that allow the public and narrative to treat him as a maverick - just like Repliforce as a whole (building a weapon that is capable of wiping out the entire Earth doesn't exactly scream "Chill Dudes Who Are Misunderstood", after all). For instance, he didn't have to attempt using Repliforce's cannon to try taking out a city full of people. He did that because he wanted to. He was angry at humanity for how they treated reploids, and he wished to get their goat while he still could. With his actions on their own, it's kind of hard to sympathize with Web. Repliforce built that cannon as a means of self-defense (...allegedly. Again, it's a little hard to believe that when it can take out an entire planet), and here Web comes, making a situation that's already bad for them worse. ...But at the same time, Web is also the source of this monologue:
Now it's a lot easier to see where he's coming from.
He saw humanity and reploids as trapped in an endless cycle where reploids would be subservient to their creators, grow tired of it until they saw violence as the only way to change things, act on that belief, get labeled Maverick/Irregular, and inevitably get killed by reploids (Hunters) who acted on humanity's behalf. Did Web Spider do what he did out of anger? Yes. But that's not the only reason he had: he saw destroying that city as a means to an end, the natural course of things. And that makes sense: after all, human revolutions are often bloody. The French Revolution, the American Revolution, so on and so forth - the oppressed taking up arms against their oppressors is considered to be a staple in these sorts of events.
And if humans could go to war when they felt their rights and freedoms were being violated... well, why not reploids?
With that sort of perspective in mind, I almost feel bad for Web Spider. His logical, yet non-empathetic philosophy got him killed, the first life to be taken by X in a war - a war that ultimately proved what Web said to be true.
Repliforce being taken down didn't end the threat of mavericks, after all.
Not in the slightest.

Opinion on Dark Necrobat, Shining Firefly and Web Spider?
Don't you mean DARK DIZZY, IZZY GLOW, and WEB SPIDUS??? Joking aside-- yes. The PS1 Era Mavericks are some of my favorites. Let's take a look at them.
Dark Necrobat is feels like a love letter to Shade Man from Mega Man 7, in both design and gameplay. The fact that he also uses sound as a means to fight as well as being able to use bloodsucking feels like a direct nod, and I'm here for it. His stage doesn't really make sense for him or plays into his abilities, in my opinion, but one thing that I do appreciate about Mega Man X is that they don't try to make the theming cartoonish for the sake of the Maverick. Necrobat most likely has a reason to be in the planetarium we have to go to, and that's pretty cool. His track is a vibe too. Speaking of banger tracks though.
Probably one of the best tracks in the series, Shining Firefly's song slaps so hard. Not only that, it's one of my favorite stages from X5-- it's a solid platforming stage that feels very Mega Man X in a game that has a lot of gimmicky stages. Design wise, he's great. Fits the bill for the Reploid scientist vibe that is way smart, but with a little attitude as well. You know he's confident about his work. With Firefly being one of the lead researchers for laser technology in MMX, it makes you wonder if he had any ties to the Enigma Cannon or the Final Weapon? Maybe Repliforce consulted him for the Final Weapon? Maybe not though, because they had their hands full with guys like this:
Insect designs in Mega Man X never disappoint. Web Spider's design is striking and memorable. The yellow and green combo works great for his design alongside the blue accents to make a uniform Repliforce color pallette. Electric webs are a COOL ability, and make a lot of sense for a Spider trying to capture their mechanical prey. His stage and music are also very relaxing, which kinda contrasts how it would be to fight something like this in real life. He's a giant spider-- that shoots homing webs at you. That's scary.

Do you have any hcs for the Repliforce chars (including Web Spider and Jet Stingray)?
Hoo boy, do I. Some of these are headcanons loosely based on a tentative AU project I'm playing around with where X4's events were averted entirely cuz Sigma overplayed his hand.
General (Headcanon CV: Kinryu Arimoto) and Colonel (Headcanon CV: Katsuyuki Konishi) are so military-oriented that the slightest non-combat scenario has them akin to the cross between a deer in the headlights and an actor who literally forgot all their lines and flounder on live footage. Colonel is *slightly* better due to being Iris' core programming twin and falling back on her know-how, but it's not a pretty sight. Zero has similar problems - the one crippling weakness they all share. Warbots gonna warbot & all that. General is at least humble and overly polite about it - Colonel gets defensive and prideful which does him no favors in the maturity department.
Iris (Headcanon CV: Kana Hanazawa) is the glue that keeps the Repliforce high command from shrieking to a screaming halt. Her assuring demeanor, her kindness, her being unafraid to be candid to superiors when they're in the wrong, her more overt 'human' traits like her expressiveness & personal care (Iris takes great pride in maintaining her long locks), her willingness to help or lend a shoulder/ear, even her schoolgirl crush of Zero (despite some dissenting opinions). She is slowly warming up to constant human contact, before X4 threw all that out the window.
Slash Beastleo (Headcanon CV: Rikiya Koyama) is Colonel's right-hand man and quite honestly the closest of Repliforce's notable active members to being "one of the guys". You wouldn't guess by appearance that he's a gifted orator and something of a socialite. Beastleo's the closest thing Repliforce has to a social media icon and activist, doing double-duty as part of Repliforce's PR department to make enlistment and human-Reploid relations go surprisingly well... even if the concept of memes is utterly alien to 99% of Reploids. Also has pet nicknames for others, but only those he likes.
Frost Walrus (Headcanon CV: Unsho Ishizuka) is a moody troublemaker and delinquent by Repliforce standards. After transferring from the Maverick Hunters to avoid decommissioning, General and Colonel keep a tight leash on the behemoth to keep him in line. Far removed from his prior habits of physical altercations, Walrus falls back on snarky quips and clapbacks to scratch that itch. It's only tolerated due to exemplary field performance and being one of the few Reploids in service who can operate at peak efficiency in the polar regions. Argues a lot w/ Burn Dinorex. Has a weakness for vanilla ice cream, an oddity even among Reploids.
Jet Stingray (Headcanon CV: Satoshi Hino) is the ideal naval soldier from his sharp, succinct speech to his statuesque posture. Does not often speak unless spoken to, and always with a respectful tone bordering on austerity. But completely throw him off his game and he's a bona fide basketcase, having animated gestures and swears like a sailor - the stark opposite of his usual facade. When he catches himself his entire frame goes hot pink from embarrassment - at which point it is unwise to probe the subject further. Does not express it but is absolutely terrified of airborne heights.
Web Spider (Headcanon CV: Kappei Yamaguchi) is a professional information broker. Having metaphorical eyes and ears everywhere as a joint chief of security in addition to his guerrilla duties, Spider's personal logs detail all manner of juicy bits for gossip and the occasional harmless blackmail (usually it's for small favors and foisting unwanted duties onto others as one-time things - can't let there be any... noticeable patterns.) A bigger, but far more discrete troll than Beastleo.
Storm Owl (Headcanon CV: Taiki Matsuno) is an obsessive-compulsive perfectionist, often overreacting to anything from formations to materials being mere iota out of place. Is prone to hooting disciplinary rants on military-grade excellence being expected out of his men as well as himself. Colonel and General have tried and failed to get Owl to take things down several notches to little avail. There are unsubstantiated off-the-record rumors that the former two authorized Beastleo and Spider to pull subtle "disciplinary actions" (pranks) at Owl's expense when formal complaints pile.
Spiral Pegasus (Headcanon CV: Akira Ishida), Owl's newly appointed lieutenant, is significantly less uptight than his commander, if only due to his youth and somewhat pliable naivete. His strong sense of duty and justice often blindside him to more nuanced social etiquette and protocol, often distressing the stallion & ruminating that he's made a fool of himself. (He's his own worst enemy.) The Repliforce Air Force like Spiral a lot more than Owl, and the pressure often gets to him in somewhat comical displays of panic straight out of an anime. Prone to neigh or whinny if sufficiently animated. One-sided crush on Iris.
Burn Dinorex (Headcanon CV: Taiten Kusunoki) is Repliforce' chief of weapon maintenance, often choosing to craft his arms and tools by hand rather than automated, having some affinity for the classic blacksmiths of yore. His personal workshop is nicknamed 'Hephaestus'. Has a deep off-putting voice but is very polite, if not sounding like a giant trying to gingerly handle fragile flowers around him. Often addresses Iris as 'Lady Iris'. Argues a lot w/ Walrus

Here’s my cents for before the plight-at-sea AU (aka, the Repliforce war).
Mind Rat, the general’s creation, leaves Repliforce because he knows it’s going to crap and the pirates help him out so he won’t be temporarily shut down. He helps Marty’s crew and begins conducting operations. Here’s what happens:
He sends Blade Axolotl, who brings Volt Catfish as a distraction, and Electric Monarch to help Kela, who is dispatched to the Kagikira forest to investigate. They fight Web Spider (with Shining Firefly joining in. He and Electric’s appearances are important due tot here being a reason why there’s a whole laser in the jungle). However, Web Spider escapes.
X , Marty, Zero and the crew handle Jet Stingray. They storm the naval group after the city’s destruction. They win, and Jet is arrested, feeling remorseful. His redemption starts in custody, where he will eventually meet Tangle Bonsai when he goes for help.
Split Mushroom is still killed by Double :( Lace, who was originally a guard at the bio lab, along with her friends, breaks the news to them, and they’re all crushed. This is also after Soyada Prison was liberated, so Lace is surprised the guards are still there. Dark Feline tries to force her to come back, but Lace signals their location so they can get help and recover from the pro-prison system propaganda they’ve been fed.
Mind Rat handles Frost Walrus with Blizzard Buffalo, who helps evacuate the prisoners of war. He uses his powers to make the big jerk hallucinate being surrounded by the undead corpses of his murder victims and being surrounded by flames, which scared him…until Mind Rat slips up and it stops, triggering him to try and tear him apart, until the General comes in and shoots him. He tries to go to his creation, but he only says, “Call off the coup and then we’ll talk!”.
Mind Rat also deals with Storm Owl. He uses telepathy to try and mess with him, distracting him and giving the others enough time to stop him.
Spiral Pegasus tries to find Storm Owl. During this, he meets Dark Necrobat, who has just escaped. He then tries to fix Repliforce’s reputation by killing the creation of Sigma himself, causing a chase of vampire hunter and vampire.
Mind Rat fights General, and horrifically finds out that Sigma was responsible for it, and goes to fight him. Seeing General’s sacrifice turns him into a grieving, screaming mess.
While things are truly hitting the fan, Dark Necrobat stumbles upon Marty’s crew, where he makes friends with Bomb Possum, a former maverick hunter, and becomes close with Sharp Porcupine.
Oh, snap! Your AU taking place right in the middle of the Repliforce conflict certainly increases the stakes quite a bit (I knew that Web Spider didn't die when he was originally supposed to be dealt with, but now the ramifications of that really hit).
I think you're right in saying the electricity-based reploids being present during the fight with Web Spider makes sense! It also gives a chance for their characters to be fleshed out more than what we see in canon.
Jet Stingray being arrested rather than killed really exhibits X's more peaceful nature (it also spares Zero some trauma). It also gives off the sense that there's hope for Repliforce to reconcile with the Hunters to some extent, even if that's not what ends up happening.
Good on Lace for trying to get her friends some help! And this piece of information does say a lot about who Dark Feline is as a person - it speaks volumes how she tried to make Lace come back, even though they didn't have a job anymore as guards. And it says even more how Dark ends up remaining at the prison even after all of this goes down.
It sounds like Blizzard Buffalo gets to live in this AU! And the way Mind Rat deals with Frost Walrus sounds like it's meant to be reminiscent of Hell or a similar environment.
Oof. Sounds like Spiral makes similar mistakes to Colonel, in the sense that he tries to do things based on how he feels in the moment (going after one guy is not going to fix everything). Which is similar to how he behaves in canon (he takes after his mentor in the worst ways...).
I can imagine. Watching your dad die for the greater good does not sound like the kind of thing that one can do while keeping calm.
Well, at least Dark Necrobat got a happy ending out of this... for now.
Excellent as always, A! Keep up the good work!
