Why the djinns are one of the coolest power systems ever in jrpgs
Tumblr media
(minor disclaimer- it's been like 2-3 years since I last played golden sun, and I wanted to play the sequel with everything from the first but the emulator didn't allow me to do the save transfer thing so my knowledge is ever so slightly spotty)
So for those who don't know, the djinn are these little elemental goobers who your four party members equip to further enhance their elemental abilities. Each party member can carry up to 6, and are collected throughout the game, with some being optional and very missable (which I loathe but hey, this game is kinda old). They come in 4 elements: Venus(earth), Mars(fire), Mercury(water), Jupiter(wind).
The main kicker with these lads is there are three mechanics that the djinns operate upon:
1. THEY BE S'PLORIN
As is the case with most monster collector games (which isn't what this game is but the comparison helps) the djinn have the ability to interact with the overworked in different ways, depending on the number a party member has equipped. This is fairly box standard, and isn't the main thing that I love but the fact that this only scratches the surface.
2. THEY GOT MOVES
Each djinn has a name, and that name determines what they do in battle. For example, Fever the fire djinn will confuse enemies, whereas Forge the fire djinn will buff the party's next move. When you use a djinn, it goes on cool down for a fixed number of (the character's) turns. Pretty straightforward yeah?
Well there's this funny little mechanic that anyone who's played golden sun probably remember (except for me lmao, I had to Google it to remember), called Summons. Generally speaking, the more djinn of one element you have, the more powerful a summon you can get (at least that's the case in the first one, they've got some new ones in the sequel). It requires all of the required djinns to be usable, and consumes them on the use of the summon. It basically amounts to a super move with a really cool animation, and I recommend looking em up just to see. But that mechanic is generally only tied to the type of djinn, not the specific names of djinn. That being said, I thought it relevant to this cuz it is tied to the usability of the djinn in battle.
3. CHARACTER CLASSES
This is the system that diverges the most by far from anything else I've played, and the thing I've wanted to talk about the most.
To put it as simply as possible, a character is assigned a class based on two things: the base element of the hero, and what djinn they have equipped. There are three (ish) different types: mono-element, dual-element, and tri-element. And THAT, is how we end up with THESE WONDERFUL GRAPHS:
Tumblr media
See each of those axes? Those represent a different number of specific element attached to a hero (djinn and native elements). And all of these are DIFFERENT CLASSES. which I don't need to say is fucking insane, and probably unnecessary in the grand scheme of things, but I just think it's so fucking cool. Generally, the more different elements a character has, as well as the greater number, the more powerful the moves the class will be able to access. There is also some native states associated with each class, but no actual stat GROWTHS associated with classes, meaning potential minmaxxing doesn't discourage experimentation.
Now that I've got all the mechanistic mineutia out of the way, i can get to the nuances that make me love this system and how well it's aged.
As far as RPGs go, I generally am a fan of those that encourage experimentation by way of challenging and varied fights that challenge the way you think about turn-based combat. Crystal Project, Monster Sanctuary (kinda), and Siralim are decent examples of this, and if you are a fan of incredibly deep team building mechanics PLEASE PLAY THEM. Plugging aside, Golden sun's djinn system is so elegant in its simplicity because it allows you for this level of customization that you very rarely get from older games, while also really encouraging you to experiment.
Also I said I would make this post like 6 months ago at least, but let it rot in the drafts, so I'm letting it roam free instead. Also feel free to discuss other similar power systems cuz I am curious if other games managed to achieve similar levels of nuance like this.

Day 5: Obsidian for Outlining
Find all 5 installments of the mini series: helping you outline your next novel
*I have added a layer of “static” over my screenshots so they are distinctive enough to stand apart from the surrounding text
did you miss this series? here you can find all posts here: [day 1] [day 2] [day 3] [day 4]
Tumblr media
Do you use Obsidian?
What is Obsidian?
A note-taking and knowledge management tool that allows you to create and connect notes seamlessly.
Tumblr media
Uses a local-first approach, meaning your data is stored on your computer, not the cloud (unless you choose to sync).
Features bidirectional linking, which helps create a non-linear, networked way of organizing ideas—great for brainstorming and outlining.
Why should you use Obsidian?
Flexible & Customizable – Unlike rigid writing apps, you can design your own workflow.
Distraction-Free Writing – Markdown keeps the focus on text without extra formatting distractions.
Ideal for Outlining & Organization – Connect story ideas, characters, and settings effortlessly.
Obsidian for Writing
Outlining
Creating a One Pager
Create a single markdown note for a high-level novel summary.
Use headings and bullet points for clarity.
Link to related notes (e.g., character pages, theme exploration).
Here’s an example of an outline I’m currently using. This is what my website will have on it (and what goals I hope to achieve w my website)
Tumblr media
Using the Native Canvas Tool
Use Obsidian’s native Canvas tool to visually outline your novel. (Best on PC)
Create a board with columns for Acts, Chapters, or Story Beats.
Drag and drop cards as the story evolves.
Writing
Why Write Directly in Obsidian?
Minimalist interface reduces distractions.
Markdown-based formatting keeps the focus on words.
No auto-formatting issues (compared to Word or Google Docs).
Why is Obsidian Great for Writing?
Customizable workspace (plugins for word count, timers, and focus mode).
Easy to link notes (e.g., instantly reference past chapters or research).
Dark mode & themes for an optimal writing environment.
Organization in Obsidian
Outlining, Tags, Links
Each chapter, character, important item, and setting can have its own linked note.
Below, for example, you can see the purple text is a linked page directly in my outline.
Tumblr media
Use bidirectional linking to create relationships between (story) elements. Clicking these links will automatically open the next page.
Tags can be used for important characters, items, places, or events that happen in your writing. Especially useful for tracking.
Folders for Efficient Storage
Organize notes into folders for Acts, Characters, Worldbuilding, and Drafts.
Use tags and backlinks for quick navigation.
Creating a separate folder for the actual writing and linking next (chapter) and previous (chapter) at the bottom for smooth navigation.
You can also create and reuse your own internal templates!
Spiderweb Map Feature (Graph View)
Visualize connections between characters, plot points, and themes. Below you’ll see the basic mapping of my website development project.
Tumblr media
This view can help you spot disconnected (floating) ideas and create bridges to them.
Exporting
Why Export?
Ready to format in another program (Scrivener, Word, Docs, Vellum, etc).
Need a clean version (removing tags, notes, etc) for beta readers or editors.
Creating a backup copy of your work.
When should you export?
Personally, I like to export every 5 chapters or so and update my live version on Google Docs. This allows my family, friends, and beta readers to access my edited work.
After finishing a draft or major revision.
Before sending to an editor or formatting for publication.
Where should you export?
Personally I copy and paste my content from each chapter into a google doc for editing. You may also want to make note of the following export options:
Markdown to Word (.docx) – For editing or submitting.
Markdown to PDF – For quick sharing
Markdown to Scrivener – For those who format in Scrivener.
To Conclude
Obsidian is an invaluable tool for novelists who want a flexible, organized, and distraction-free writing process.
Try setting up your own Obsidian vault for your next novel! Comment below and let me know if this was helpful for you 🫶🏻

Interest Call for Raging Loop Official Merch at the Pop Up Shop
Tumblr media
From December 13th to December 22nd, 2024, there will be a Raging Loop pop up shop in Tokyo to celebrate its 9th anniversary! I happen to be going to Japan during this time, and will be buying merch for myself. Several people I know were interested in me purchasing extra merch for them, and given the sheer rarity of Raging Loop merch, I am more than willing to oblige.
To facilitate this, I have set up an "order form" of sorts (more of an interest form than anything) so I can figure out what people want. I don't need immediate payment or anything, but I will be requesting payment for the items you bought (+ shipping) once I do buy them for you. There are so many items that I'll put most of them below the cut, but I'll put the primary interest for most people above the cut. That is....
...the plushies! They're ¥‎4,800 per plush, ~$32 USD each at the time I'm writing this. No I don't know why they made Nosato and not Haru justice for my girl please
Tumblr media
Rest of items/prices under the cut - in yen only, I can't be bothered to convert everything. (They're also in the order form, lol.) All of these are rough names since I have abysmal kanji knowledge to rely on Google Translate for a few of them. Full post contains spoilers, you have been warned!
Tumblr media
"Japanese-Style Werewolf Card Game" (probably just werewolf...) - ¥‎3,000
Tumblr media
Feast Photo Playmat (used for e.g. Magic the Gathering) - ¥‎4,000

T shirts - ¥‎4,400 for the wolf shirts, ¥5,500 for the sheep shirt
Tumblr media
Reversible Bomber Jacket - ¥‎33,000 (no, that is NOT a typo...)

Kaori-san's Special Furikake - ¥‎1,980
Tumblr media
Kiyonosuke's Darjeeling Tea - ¥‎1,800

Nobody knows what will be popular in 2 years
I was recently giving advice to a younger writer asking for "business advice," and I gave a version of the advice that I usually give: "focus on improving your craft; the question of 'how to sell this book' is one that will be easier to answer once you've actually written the book and have a complete manuscript."
More specifically, if you estimate that your first book will be done in 2027, then you shouldn't be spending 2025 doing "research" to figure out things like "what's the best ad platform," or "what style of book cover works best?" because the knowledge that you gain in 2025 might be obsolete by the time it's time to publish in 2027. Just write the book and figure out the business side later.
Even your choice of what genre to write in shouldn't be informed by what you think is popular, because nobody knows what will be popular in 2 years.
After uttering that sentence, I wondered, "is it actually true?" So I went to Google trends, and typed in "Romantasy books," and lo and behold, ~nobody was searching for this term 2 years ago.
Here's a graph put together by Alex Newton from K-Lytics showing interest in "Romantasy books" compared to interest in "Paranormal romance books" over time:
Tumblr media
It's currently among the hottest genres on the market (and probably an uncontested candidate for "fastest growing" over the past 2 years), but you probably wouldn't have seen it coming in April 2023 if you were researching "what are the hottest book genres right now?"
The popularity of "Romantasy" in the current market caught a lot of people by surprise. That being said, there are some things about the state of the book market in 2025 that are utterly unsurprising: the most popular genres on ebook platforms are romance, fantasy, and various blends of mystery, thrillers, and suspense. This was true of the market 2 years ago, 5 years ago, and 10 years ago. These genres are "Lindy."
It's really hard to predict short-term trends. If you saw in 2009 that "vampire romance novels are really popular right now," and then spent 2 years writing a vampire romance novel with the idea that this would be your ticket to success, your book would be hitting the market in 2011, at a point when vampire romance was already on the down-swing, and you might find yourself disappointed with the performance of your book as you entered a crowded market. The thing that's been surging in popularity for the past 2 years may no longer be resurgent if you travel 2 years into the future.
Tumblr media
Breaking Dawn Part 1 was the first movie in the Twilight series to do worse than its predecessor at the box office, marking "the beginning of the end"
Again, see "the Lindy effect," or as mama used to say, "easy come, easy go."
Of course, even in 2011, when vampire romance novels had begun their descent in popularity, I still would have given the advice that "if you want to write a vampire romance novel, and the idea of writing vampire romance is what gets you excited to actually sit down and start typing, then you should write that, because the biggest thing you need to achieve to become an author is to get your reps in, and it still counts as 'writing' regardless of whether you're writing fanfic, forum roleplay, or a genre that is rapidly waning in popularity."
(Interestingly, "paranormal romance" has sort of become a Lindy genre: if you released a vampire novel in 2011 riding the coattails of Twilight hoping for commercial success, you would probably be disappointed. However, from the vantage point of 2025, could reasonably observe "despite the decline in the popularity of vampire romance, paranormal romance managed to remain a somewhat popular genre over the past 15 years," then that's a somewhat different proposition: a genre that has remained somewhat popular for over a decade has a good chance of still being somewhat popular a ~decade from now, and if you're lucky you might even catch it when it's on an upswing -- maybe in 2027, people will tire of romantasy and drift back to vampire romance.)
Spending several months of your life writing a "declining genre" is only a "waste of time" if you're doing it purely for cynical reasons and chasing book sales rather than developing your own craft. And empirically, the people who seem to achieve career success by "chasing trends" are the people whose turnaround time for a complete novel is closer to ~2 months rather than ~2 years, and they have the ability to do that because earlier in their career, they got their reps in, and now have no trouble cranking out ~3,000 words per day. And regardless of how cynical you intend to be, I think that's a valuable skill to have: the only piece of "career advice" I have for authors that really generalizes is "be prolific."
Tumblr media
If you look at the release schedule for ACOTAR, you'll see that the first 3 books came out over a 3 year period from 2015-2017 -- and this overlapped with the 7-year period from 2012-2018 during which she released 8 Throne of Glass novels.
Sarah J. Maas did this well before "romantasy" was a part of the lexicon. TikTok did not exist yet. She did not achieve commercial success by "following trends," and if you wish to plan out a career that looks like Sarah J. Maas, it probably does not look like "look at what is popular in 2025 and then do exactly that."

F.A.N.G's super LONG Shadaloo PR monologue on the Official Street Fighter V website (Japanese and Desktop only). He talks about a myriad of things that include the purpose of the website, the Four Heavenly Kings, the Dolls, other members of Shadaloo, food, some SFV gaming advice, himself, and so much more. This started in 2016, but it had updates. Thankfully, ryo_redcyclone compiled the entire transcript of the updated version onto this page.
I used Google Translate for this. Apologies if some of the translations look weird. I broke it down to smaller paragraphs, otherwise the entire thing is basically a very big block of text lol. Also, you’ll notice that F.A.N.G says desu a lot. Normally it’s spelled です (is/am/are/to be, usually a sentence ender) in hiragana, but the way he said it is デス in katakana. This is a play on words. He is still using desu, but he is also saying the English word “death” (he’s a poisonous assassin and mad scientist after all). In SF6, A.K.I. also emulates her master’s speech pattern in the Japanese version. She too says desu in デス 💜💜.
Anyway, here’s the translation:
——
Nishishi! Everyone of Shadaloo army, how are you? It's your reliable boss, Lord F.A.N.G.
The Shadaloo C.R.I., also known as the Shadaloo Combat Research Institute, has been renewed. It's a calm and stylish atmosphere in white. I love Lord Bison’s psycho power and purple, which is the color of poison (I also like pink). With the emphasis on visibility, I made it white, with great heartache and even shredding my intestines. Feeling like your intestines are being ripped apart is a powerful expression. It hurts, it hurts so much. It's better to be poisoned than to be slashed. The poison handled by I, Lord F.A.N.G, is something I learned in special training since I was young. Metals other than gold are said to melt! Nho ho ho ho, isn’t it amazing? Moreover, you can take poison in and out freely! ( But I'm always releasing a little bit at a time, so my cell phone and other things are made of pure gold). In other words, I, Lord F.A.N.G, is the most treacherous and strongest. Oh, the strongest is Lord Bison.
And this time, at the Shadaloo CRI, you can find out the usage rate of characters in online matches. The usage rate of those who belong to Shadaloo is skyrocketing! As for Lord Bison, the usage rate is over 200%. You can understand even if you don't see it. Mr. Balrog is about 2%. After all, it's hard being a popular character. We have no choice but to make the world better with the power of Shadaloo! And then the diagram is counted on a monthly basis. The counting is done manually by low-ranking Shadaloo soldiers under the orders of F.A.N.G. ...That's a lie. What is a diagram in the first place? To explain to those who say, it is a research site made by the Shadaloo Information Department that is full of the knowledge of the world: According to Shadopedia, the aggregated information was visualized in two dimensions with an expression model such as graphs and tables. In other words, the strong one is on top and the weak one is on the bottom. However, it is not a visualization of the performance of the character. It's calculated based on which character is winning "around the world" during "this period." Don't give up even if you're at the bottom. As long as everyone uses it and win, that's fine, desu.
Well, today, I'm going to work hard on training while having beef stew with shakko power extract! The CRI itself is also scheduled to evolve every day. It's good to check it every day. The central part of this Shadaloo secret base is where I am now, I update it from here. Oh, those beautiful statues you see behind me... From the right, there’s the "World's Strongest Number 2”, that’s me. Next is claw-man, a cruel narcissist with a really bad character. Lord Bison, the perfect ruler who was born to conquer the world! And finally, the boxing man, desu. I will update the information from time to time from this majestic room. The electricity at the Shadaloo base is mostly made up of geothermal power sources. It's ecological, desu! Shadaloo’s slogan is “Easy on Earth”! That's why this room is quite hot. This place will also be for daily training.
Endurance is perseverance! That’s it, desu. Endure after having poisoned your enemy! Brilliantly dodge the opponent's attack so that you won't be beaten! This is the true value of F.A.N.G-style martial arts. If you don't get hit, you won't lose, so that's how it is. I guess it's a different character in this work where offense is important. A database that aggregates information on all kinds of fighters around the world. Uhihihi, there’s all we know and don’t know about that fighter, that damned female detective, that muscular wrestler, some rolled beard from a former royal family, a guy with a hairstyle like an eryngii mushroom, and a person who stretches his hands. Of course, we can also find information about Shadaloo from here. If you know them and know yourself, you will never be defeated in a hundred battles. It's good to work hard to achieve Lord Bison’s ambitions. That device, that plan, and if you have this powerful database, conquering the world will be easy as taking candy from a baby. It is, desu.
Speaking of rice before breakfast, have you finished your meal yet? Now I'm doing a beef stew fair at Shadaloo Cafeteria on the 13th basement floor. I like beef stew a lot. As I said earlier, I've already eaten twice today. Finished eating. It seems that it will be full of energy with psycho power. After eating, it's good to take a good rest before going to the training facility.
It's good to train your energy and physical strength at the 48th room of the Shadaloo training ground. Don't neglect your daily efforts to create trust and achievements. If you live a lazy life with plenty of time, you will become an incompetent person like that Balrog. I still can't believe that such a guy is the Four Heavenly Kings. Lord Bison should also reconsider this. Is the punch power the best in the world? I, the invincible Lord F.A.N.G, could melt such a thing with poison! I don't like the bastard who wears a mask. I can't forgive the attitude of looking down on people! In the first place, he doesn’t have enough loyalty to Lord Bison! Only by serving Lord Bison is a true Shadaloo soldier. I think people have to respect each other. Now, you are also aiming to be the strongest Shadaloo soldier at the CRI!
If you have time, it's good to earn fight money in story mode and unlock additional characters. No matter who ever comes, I, Lord F.A.N.G, am and always will be invincible; this won’t change! In other words, I'm Number 1!! ・・・・・・ Oh, Lord Bison is Number 1, so I'm Number 2! I’m the strongest and invincible Number 2, desu! Wow, that was close. It would bring me bad luck....
Hmm? How can I become strong? That's a simple thing, it's good to master the poisonous hand. My V-Skill, Nishodoku, is unblockable. Are you surprised? To be honest, I was also surprised. It flies slowly, so you can chase it and use it as a check. It's good to take away the opponent's physical strength and keeping them from reaching you with Nishikyu or a Sotoja. Hmm? Isn't that what you mean? What do you mean! If you don't want to learn poison, you can play against opponents from all over the world in an online match! It's the best way to get stronger in the actual battle! Of course, it's better to collect information about the characters before fighting. It's more interesting to grasp not only the characters but also the habits and characteristics of the opponent, and you can fight advantageously. The CRI is for you, a rookie Shadaloo soldier! If you have this, you can advance into a top-class Shadaloo soldier!
I'm going to explain about Shadaloo, to which we belong, here. I'm sure you know that it's a secret society that works behind the scenes all over the world, but there are also many excellent engineers and programmers. I'm working hard for the effective use of psycho power and world peace. In addition to weapons development, we are also conducting experiments that maximize human power and food development that does not expire at all. The salary is paid in the dedicated currency ZENNY.
In order to work on conquering the world with peace in mind, we are preparing all uniforms and residences in Shadaloo. Speaking of uniforms, it is a characteristic shoulder armor, desu. It is a thing that imitates Lord Bison’s costume. All are color coordinated. There is a color change once every 4 years. It was just the timing of the switch this year, so it's a refreshing blue. Before that, it was a chic brown, mustard-like color. A hat that goes well with the uniform is prepared. Lower-ranking soldiers are required to wear helmets during their duties. It is possible to protect the head and temporarily strengthen the body with a psycho power receiver. A stylish red beret is prepared outside the mission. I'm sure it will look good on you too. Red is the color of passion! It's Lord Bison’s color!
Speaking of missions, Shadaloo soldiers sometimes fight. Hitting, kicking, throwing, and poisoning are scary, aren't they? But! Even if you are like that, if you are learning Shadaloo-style martial arts, you will do a great job! From a posture that looks harmless for a moment, a powerful tackle, and a flowing cooperation technique, an alarming sharp punch, this combo is the legendary [Shadaloo Punch] desu. In addition, with eyes like a dead fish, let the opponent off guard and rise at once while rotating (there is no attack judgment here) A heavy kick like stepping on a falling coin. This is [Shadaloo Kick] desu. It's a must-have technique for the intermediate promotion exam, so it's good to practice well.
Speaking of Lord Bison’s aides that I remembered in the battle, in addition to the Four Kings and I, the magnificent Lord F.A.N.G, there are also his elite female body guards called the Dolls. They have a special combat training, so they are quite skilled. If you have the chance, it's a good idea to practice with them. I'm going to explain the members.
First of all, the one with the pink curls. [Enero] She is the leader and her role is to plan special missions and give instructions to other members. She can also fight, so it seems that she often go to the battlefield and take direct command. She’s good at copying vocal cords, and she can confuse the enemy. She has a lot of pride, so she sometimes have trouble handling it.
Next is [Février] She’s in charge of firearms who skillfully use two submachine guns. She has a very foul mouth, so you'd better be careful. You can never win if you have a sting. It's a waste of time. Her hair and glasses are the charm points.
[März] She is good at information manipulation and cyber attacks. She can't physically fight, but she seems to more than compensate with that. It's scary when this type gets angry. Actually, boxing in secret (exercise?) It seems that she was doing it.
[Aprile] She carries a medical kit and is in charge of providing first aid to her comrades. I, Lord F.A.N.G, have bestowed upon her a finely developed neurotoxin, so that in case of danger she can use the poison and attack. She's originally from Italy and apparently did rhythmic gymnastics, so they took notice of her and snatched her up! That’s scary! Kidnapping is bad!
[Satsuki] Japanese samurai-style fighter desu. The combat power is Number 1 for the Dolls. The sharpness of her beloved samurai sword blade is amazing. Well, if it comes to me, I'll melt the whole sword with poison. Actually, she is also good at taijutsu, and she has the technique of grabbing her opponent, jumping to the sky and hitting the ground. It's a sub-style technique of the hooligan combination, and it's pretty cool. She also does sliding.
[Juli] She’s a combatant who uses a sniping arrow. It seems that a lot of things happened in the previous work, but she has returned safely to Shadaloo and participated in the conquest of the world.
[Santamu] This is a member who is good at fighting with spears. Because she has good eyesight, she can look over the enemy from high ground and carry out the mission efficiently. The Golden Lion Tamarin, Kiki, is like her partner. It seems that she likes animals and is heartbroken to exploit Kiki, but it is unavoidable in this world and for Lord Bison.
[Xiayu] and [Jianyu] are twins. It appears to me that the one fighting with nunchakus and sporting a classical Chinese Opera face paint is Xiayu, while Jianyu is the one that fights with acrobatics wielding a stick; I tend to confuse them often. Seems to be good at combination techniques, desu. It's kind of sneaky.
[Noembelu] She’s the powerhouse of the Dolls. She is equipped with two one-handed axes. The attack of holding an axe in both hands and slashing while rotating is intense. She’s a quiet person with few words. It seems that growing vegetables is her hobby, so she provides a corner of the rooftop of the base and is making a vegetable garden. Also, she seems to be good at making dolls.
Finally, [Decapre] She is a fighter who is most strongly influenced by Lord Bison's psycho power, desu. Does she hate the former Doll Killer Bee? I would like to know. I don't know anything about their past, so I can't say anything. It seems that the mask had a minor change.
..Well, I'm really lucky to be working at Shadaloo with such unique members. I should feel honored. With Lord Bison's blessing, I'll be sure to continue the quest for world domination.. Please invite your friends as well. It's good to learn what you don't understand at the CRI. Everyone gets along well, let’s do world conquest! For the sake of the wonderful Lord Bison. Yes, yes, I remember!
Let me tell you one thing. Why don’t I, Lord F.A.N.G, have a holiday costume? Is the Chinese girl’s costumes popular? Is the curled hair lady's swimsuit popular? Oh dear, desu. There are shirts with bird (flamingo) patterns during summer vacations and my favorite purple sleepwears, so why don't they release those?! There's no mistake in selling explosively, but I don't understand!
——
There’s also an older version from 2016 which was translated in English by Miðgarðsorm. It’s the 11th post. Because this one’s older, it’s shorter and have less content than the updated one from above. But there are some interesting differences. Instead of mentioning his favorite food being beef stew, F.A.N.G said he doesn’t like curry that much. Now you know his food preferences 😄😄.
This neat feature reveals a lot about F.A.N.G’s character, sentiments, and how his poison works all in a fun and upbeat way. And isn’t it neat that he ran and updated the website himself too (according to website lore)? But I wonder how he feels every time he sees himself at the bottom for character usage? 😅😅. I think that this type of content was meant to make F.A.N.G into an endearing character. He gives some gaming tips and words of encouragement to the player, something that wasn’t present in SFV as he would often belittle or threaten anyone that isn’t Bison. The website gives us a friendlier portrayal of F.A.N.G, which I think contributed a slightly positive-leaning perception of him in Japan as oppose to the rest of the world. Seeing things like this, I wish it was translated for the English version of the website. This type of supportive personality from him was transferred into SF6 when he’s providing medical advice. I didn’t understand why F.A.N.G was so oddly “helpful” and “kind” in SF6 at first (even if it’s just to gain something he wants), but now it makes sense when looking back at this old gem. I wonder if F.A.N.G talks to A.K.I. like this when she’s training and studying under him? I wouldn’t be surprised if he did and it’s no wonder A.K.I. loves him. I can imagine him giving her exercise and educational tips while encouraging her to do her best and never to give up 💜😄💜😄.
And I just love how F.A.N.G complained that all of the cool DLC costumes go to Chun-Li. Like yeah, a lot of people actually did share his sentiments on that lol. But it’s Chun-Li. She is the face of Street Fighter along with Ryu.

Let’s say you just searched Google to learn more about this new AI Overview feature that everyone’s talking about. If your query triggers an AI Overview—and not every query will—then you might see an AI-generated summary of this very article at the top of your results. These new AI Overviews in Google Search present users with AI-generated answers to queries that are culled from information on the web, and they’re presented in a way that gives you the answer you seek without ever requiring you to click on a web link or even learn the names of the publications that the AI used as sources.
Google has already released a nascent version of AI Overviews within something called the Search Generative Experience, but it was only available to users who opted in. However, at the company’s I/O developer conference this week, Google announced that the newly renamed AI Overviews is now receiving a wider launch; everyone in the US who uses Google to search the web or ask a question will now see AI Overviews at the top of their results—again, if their question can be answered by a summary.
Can I Turn Off AI Overviews?
What if you’d rather just see web links? Unfortunately, AI Overviews are baked into the default search results page now. You can’t opt out of seeing them in your results. While there’s no way to fully disable AI Overviews for your Google account, there are a couple of methods you can use to get a search results page filled with web links.
First, there's the manual method of selecting a special filtered view after each individual query. After landing on the search result page topped with the AI Overview, click on the More tab—it should now appear among other filter options like Images, Videos, Shopping—and click Web. You’ll see a results page just showing links to actual websites.
Second, you can install a browser extension that automatically forces this web-only view of the search results page. Developers have been hard at work since I/O; there are already options available for Chrome and Vivaldi, as well as add-ons for Firefox. Other browsers will likely get extensions soon.
What's in an AI Overview?
When can you expect your query to trigger an AI-generated summary of the results? “AI Overviews appear for complex queries,” says Mallory De Leon, a Google spokesperson. “You'll find AI Overviews in your Google Search results when our systems determine that generative AI can be especially helpful–for example, when you want to quickly understand information from a range of sources.” During my initial tests, it felt like the AI Overviews popped up almost at random for queries, and the summaries appeared for simple questions as well as more complicated asks.
According to De Leon, the AI Overview is powered by a customized version of Google’s Gemini model that’s supplemented with aspects of the company’s Search system, like the Knowledge Graph that has billions of general facts.
One of my core hesitations about this feature as it rolls out is the continued potential for AI hallucinations, more commonly known as lies. When you interact with Google’s Gemini chatbot, a disclaimer at the bottom reads: “Gemini may display inaccurate info, including about people, so double-check its responses.” There’s no such disclaimer added to the bottom of the AI Overview, which often simply reads, “Generative AI is experimental.”
When asked why there’s no mention of potential hallucinations for AI Overviews, De Leon emphasizes that Google wants to still offer high-quality search results and mentions that the company did adversarial red-teaming tests to uncover potential weak points for the feature.
“This implementation of generative AI is rooted in Search’s core quality and safety systems, with built-in guardrails to prevent low-quality or harmful information from surfacing,” she says. “AI Overviews are designed to highlight information that can be easily verified by the supporting information that we surface.”
Knowing this, you might still want to click through the webpage links to double-check that the information is actually correct. Though it’s hard to imagine many users, who are often looking for quick answers, will spend extra time reading over the source material for Google’s AI-generated answer.
Liz Reid, Google’s head of Search, recently told my colleague Lauren Goode that AI Overviews are expected to arrive for countries outside of the United States before the end of 2024, so over a billion people will likely soon encounter this new feature. As someone whose job relies on readers actually clicking links and spending time reading the articles, of course I’m apprehensive about this change—and I’m not alone.
Beyond concerns from publishers, it also remains unclear what additional impacts might trickle down to users from Google’s AI Overviews. Yes, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other AI tools are quite popular in Silicon Valley tech circles, but this feature will likely expose billions of people, who have never used a chatbot before, to AI-generated text. Even though AI Overviews are designed to save you time, they might lead to less trustworthy results.

Mildly concerning realization three:
Grave robbing is illegal. Obviously.
However, there is, to my knowledge, no law in the United States saying grave robbing specifically is a crime. So what charge is it listed under? Theft.
Theft is, again, a crime. But the threshold between a misdemeanor and felony changes state to state. Here is a nice little hopefully accurate graph.
Tumblr media
From: https://www.axios.com/2022/04/21/inflation-prices-shoplifting-felony-misdemeanor
The charge for theft also depends state to state, I don’t have a graph for this one but it roughly ranges from a small fine for misdemeanor to the death penalty for a felony (states with legalized death penalty or federal felony).
Since D.C. is the capital and roughly mid range we will be using its threshold of $1000.
Now a proper body is estimated to go for around $550,000. We will not be stealing a full body.
Here’s the fun part, there are many body parts that go for less than $1000.
Alas the black market hinges on the fact it’s unregulated, so reaserch is limited. I used this article: https://medicalfuturist.com/how-much-is-life-worth/
Off the bat we get some prices that will keep us out of a grave ourselves. Skin is about $10 per inch and a stomach is only $500. We only have one stomach so that’s not the most interesting. But you could go right up to 99 square inches of skin without hitting $1000. Accordingly to a quick google search the average adult has about 21 square feet of skin, so 252 inches. So be careful not to over estimate your immoral harvesting.
Less reliable sources say a liter of blood is $337.
Everything else? Go to Texes for a better chance. Fair warning, it has the highest number of executions.
Bonus information gathered in this rabbit hole:
Deers eat bones, including human. This was found by a Texas university studying human cadaver decomposition. These places are called bone yards or body farms.

Had a thought about Pokemon for the first time in a while. DD's theory corner time:
Legends Arceus- Arceus is in the title, basically the kick to get the plot ball rolling, our ultimate goal
Legends Z-A, if we were to try basing it on the one title before it, probably references Zygarde. Makes sense if we compare the Z to XY- except the A.
Theory: Legends "2" has two title legendaries associated with it. The A is a new Norse inspired Pokemon that represents some new aspect of dimensions (like the X, Y, and Z planes of a graph that formulate latitude, longitude, and the spaces between).
I know I'm not the first to speculate this, but I think I do want to speculate exactly what the A could be. A certainly doesn't fit in with the XYZ planes (or at the least, nothing is really turning up on Google). HOWEVER, the Norse angle does have a hit we could try to wrestle with.
Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde all represent various aspects of the specific Norse iteration of the World Tree mythos (the reason it's so popular world wide is because- much like the world turtle- mythos for world trees exist all around the world)- in this case, Yggdrasil.
Xerneas is the embodiment of life, and embodies aspects of the tree itself, plus seems to be based off of the 4 stags that eat at the branches of the tree. Their names are Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr and Duraþrór- no, I don't know how to pronounce those either, but basically as they eat at the branches, the life dew that forms on their antlers flows downwards to create rivers of the world. That's how we get to Xerneas being the tree, the stags, and life itself.
Yveltal is death, and possibly based on an "unnamed eagle" that sits atop the World Tree- aka the Y axis- Or it could possibly be the hawk called Veðrfölnir that sits between the eyes of the unnamed eagle. These birds are attested to be a source of knowledge and possibly are based off of Odin's ravens, which fly off and return with new knowledge. Hawks, Eagles, and Ravens are all birds associated with death to some degree, whether killing prey itself or scavenging dead corpses. That could be how we get a death bird that opposes a life deer
Zygarde is most likely based on the Nidhogg, a dragon that feasts on the roots of Yggdrasil and in particular seems to actually be a villain in early stories. The Nidhogg apparently nibbled and ate corpses of those who lost honor, particularly those guilty of adultery, murder, and oathbreaking. In this case, the fact that Zygarde watches the ecosystem could be a simple role reversal to what Yveltal was supposed to be, and could even embody various aspects of Norse pantheon itself.
Now there is one more prominent creature that could be worked with- Ratatosk- which is a squirrel like creature that communicates messages between the unnamed eagle and Nidhogg, and basically was sort of a chatty gossip that seemed to start shit on purpose, basically harassing the fauna of the tree and continuing the fued between Eagle and Nidhogg. This could already be incorporated into Zygarde's cell system, as the cells communicate with each other across the world- but seem to exist to SOLVE problems instead.
Still, as we've seen from the above, Game Freak isn't afraid to remix or twist ideas to make their own. So I'm gonna say Ratatosk has a strong chance of being legendary A, in this case. Something to note is that it may not be 100% a squirrel in this case, much like how Zygarde is a snake and a dragon, but it's still something that can be meddled with.
Now the question would be: what does A bring to the table that Life, Death, and Order does not?
Before that, let's ask WHY there'd be a Legendary A. Xerneas and Yveltal, by nature, are beings that go into long slumber once they've done their jobs- according to XY, that would have been about 3k years before the start of the story, where Yveltal drained the life of everyone and thing around it before turning into a cocoon, and/or Xerneas becoming a tree that granted life instead.
GF can do whatever they want, but there's something else to note: if ZA takes place ENTIRELY within Lumiose, that means we're not going to Geosenge where the cocoon or tree were to power the cannon Lysander almost destroyed the world with. Now they'll probably bring them back anyway, but if they'd play as big of a role as Zygarde, why not call the game XYZ like the anime?
Hence A. Pokemon loves legendary duos, and so A could potentially be the opposite of Zygarde. In other words: CHAOS, the opposite of order.
This could fit imo, given that Ratatosk loved to start shit. Not to mention, A is opposite to Z in the alphabet- certainly would explain why it pops up against the established XYZ.
Of course, you can't talk about Norse mythology in the modern Era without bringing up Thor or Loki. While Thor has yet to be represented imo (and hey, who is to say all we get is A in this case for a new legendary), Loki is probably one of the most well known people from this mythos. And, again, given that we've established that GF isn't afraid to mix things around, I personally think A will be a mix of Loki and Ratatosk.
In other words, a trickster that THRIVES on starting shit.
While it's initial basis for Ratatosk is a squirrel, Loki was a shapeshifter that took on various forms, including the infamous horse that would give birth (yes Loki got pregnant and gave birth) to the 8 legged horse, Sleipnir. Loki also took forms of creatures such as a fly, a salmon, and even an elderly woman.
Now picture this: doesn't this sound like something that could be used for traversal? A salmon or fish form for surfing, a fly or flying insect form for gliding or flying, a horse for faster traversal- if we throw in the squirrel, that could easily climb things, and the elderly woman could easily be worked in either as a villain, npc, or even integrated into a final form akin to Zygarde's 100% form.
So does the Pokemon transform? Does it work like Zygarde and have bits and pieces to collect? If it's Chaos, why would it help us?
That I'm unsure of. It may not even happen- but we do need a reason as to why suddenly Zygarde is okay with humans rebuilding Lumiose. And again, it could simply be trying to start shit, perhaps helping us retake a Lumiose reclaimed by nature as a way to simply piss off Zygarde. Of course, it could also be the enemy that took over Lumiose to begin with, or it could simply be a generic friend Pokemon, who knows.
It could even be that those forms mentioned earlier could be taken separately as new forms or special Pokemon akin to the likes of Wyrdeer or Kleavor. Or not at all of course.
We won't know jack until we get an actual trailer for the game itself, but I think that the red tinge in the title art could indicate something. Unclear what.
If I were to think of a name... Aosk? Like Chaos and Ratatosk. And the animal? A rat. On the nose, but snakes eat rats, and Zygarde is a snake. Duality, bitches.
We can probably assume AZ will be here since he's cursed with immortality, and we can't ignore the fact that Z-A is AZ backwards. So whatever it is, legendary A might have something to do with him as well.
In fact, now that I think about it, that red tinge does match the color of the canon... what if this was a Pokemon directly created as a result of the canon?
Anyway that's all my rambling.

Schema is Key
Tumblr media
Understanding Structured Schema
Schema Markup is a standardised vocabulary (Schema.org) utilised by major search engines (Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Yandex) to help them better understand and categorise web content. By adding these tags to HTML, websites can provide explicit clues about the information that search engines index, which enhances their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs).
tl;dr: Applying structured schema for websites lets you optimise for both search and AI results. Schema serves as subtitles for the internet, giving crawler bots the best contextual data direct from the publisher
This improved understanding can lead to "rich results" or "rich snippets," which are visually appealing and informative displays of content directly in search results, potentially boosting click-through rates (CTR). While Schema Markup is not a direct ranking factor, it significantly aids search engines in processing information by giving them them accurate context of website data, which is crucial for developing content knowledge graphs that support generative AI search and voice search capabilities.
Here are the key reasons why you should apply schema markup:
1. Improved Search Engine Understanding: Schema.org (often simply called schema) is a semantic vocabulary of tags or microdata that you can add to your HTML. It provides a standardised format of structured data that helps search engines like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Yandex to better understand the meaning and context of your web page content. Search engines, despite advanced algorithms, do not interpret information in the same way as humans; schema markup helps fill these gaps, clarifying what your page is about. This improved understanding allows search engines to display your content in more relevant search queries, potentially bringing more users to your pages that actually match their topics.
2. Achievement of Rich Results (Enhanced Visibility):
Schema markup can enable your web pages to appear in rich search results (also known as rich snippets, rich cards, or enriched results). These are visually more appealing and informative than standard search results, often including details like star ratings, publication dates, images, prices, or event information directly in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).
Rich results significantly increase the click-through rate (CTR) to your website by being more attention-grabbing and providing users with immediate, relevant information. This allows users to make an informed decision about whether to click, which can also reduce your bounce rate.
You can win significant "real estate" space on the SERP because rich results often take up more visual space, especially on mobile, making your listing stand out from ordinary snippets.
3. Support for Generative AI Search and Content Knowledge Graphs: Structured data provides the foundation for developing your organisation's content knowledge graph. This involves outlining relationships between entities on your site and across the web using a standardised vocabulary. This framework is crucial for training and grounding generative AI search engines and large language models (LLMs), as it relies on factual data to mitigate errors and "hallucinations". Knowledge graphs are identified as a critical enabler for generative AI adoption.
4. Future-Proofing for Voice Search: With the rise of voice search on smart devices and home assistants, schema markup can help prepare your website. Voice search users often seek quick facts, directions, or local business information. By adding relevant schema markup (e.g., Local Business schema), you can make your information more accessible for voice queries. Google is also working on a "Speakable" schema (currently in BETA) for articles and webpages, allowing home assistants to identify parts of an article suited for audio playback using text-to-speech (TTS) technology, thereby reaching a wider audience.
5. Community Standardisation: Schema.org is a collaborative, community activity founded by major search engines (Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Yandex) to create, maintain, and promote schemas for structured data. This shared vocabulary makes it easier for webmasters and developers to choose a schema and maximise benefits, ensuring consistency across the web.
While schema markup doesn't directly guarantee a #1 ranking, it helps search engines index your content better and presents it in a more engaging way through rich media, ultimately leading to increased visibility and user engagement.
But don't just take my word for it. Implement it on your own and see the difference. Start with Schema.org and build your website your way.

What You’ll Learn in a Data Science Bootcamp: A Syllabus Breakdown
At a time when companies are so dependent on information, it is not an exaggeration to say that the job of a data analyst is essential. Data analysts are vital whether they report to a retail company to understand their customer behaviours or a hospital to understand how to treat its patients better by making sense out of their data insights. So what can one do on those with little or no background in data? The following guide will help you, even starting with zero, on how to become a data analyst.
What Does a Data Analyst Do?
It is good to know what a data analyst does before getting straight to the steps. A data analyst gathers, analyses and interprets data in order to aid organizations undertake problem solving and make sound decisions.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Collection and cleaning up of data
operative Trends and pattern analysis
Report and dashboard creation
Presenting clear solutions to laypeople teams
Consider a data analyst as a translator, one who makes confusing numbers tell stories that other individuals can be able to act on.
Step 1: Understand the Role and Assess Your Interest
Everyone fond of the numbers is not suited to do the data analysis. It takes curiosity, attention to details, and communication abilities.
Problem:Most novices believe that it is more concerned with coding or math, but pay insufficient attention to the storytelling part and critical thinking.
Solution: Start by reading job descriptions or talking to professionals. Ask yourself:
Is it that I like solving puzzles?
Do I get along or am I comfortable with spreadsheets or numbers?
Is my preference to get the solution based on data?
Real-life example: Sarah, a customer support rep, saw trends in the field of complaints and began to monitor it in Excel. She did not realize it at the time, but she was already engaging in this kind of basic data analysis.
Step 2: Learn the Basics of Data and Analytics
You don’t need a degree in statistics to start, but you do need foundational knowledge.
Core Areas to Learn:
Spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets): These are often the first tools used for data analysis.
Statistics and Math: Understand averages, medians, probability, and standard deviation.
Data Visualization: Learn how to create charts and graphs that make data easy to understand.
Basic SQL (Structured Query Language): This helps you access and retrieve data from databases.
Antithesis: Some argue that you need to master advanced programming languages first. But in reality, many data analysts begin with spreadsheets and work their way up.
Step 3: Learn a Data Analysis Tool or Language
Once you’ve mastered the basics, it’s time to get comfortable with one or more tools used in the field.
Commonly Used Tools:
SQL: For querying databases
Python or R: For advanced analysis and automation
Tableau or Power BI: For creating dashboards and visual reports
Practical Tip: Don’t try to learn everything at once. Choose one tool based on the kind of job you’re aiming for. If you're interested in marketing analysis, Excel and SQL might be enough to start. If you’re leaning towards finance or research, Python may be more useful.
Step 4: Work on Real Projects
The theoretical study is amazing, but the practice is what leads to development.
Problem: Most learners are helpless upon completion of courses: they have experience only.
Solution: Run your own project. For example:
Open government data analysis
Follow your own spending and start trending
Compare the house prices locally based on the available information provided by the government
Real-life example:  John, a teacher who was transformed into a data analyst, will have opportunities to find patterns and causes of absence by relying on school attendance data. He worked in Excel and later was able to include Tableau to add visualizations. It turned into a powerful resume item during job applications.
Step 5: Build a Portfolio
Employers would like to know what you are capable of. Portfolio demonstrates your abilities in practice and helps to prove that you are ready to be hired.
What to Include:
The description of the project in brief consists of the following:
Tool and approaches employed
Visual aids such as charts or dashboard
Your convictions and conclusions
You are able to share a portfolio on your personal blog, LinkedIn, or GitHub. It is all a matter of clarity and confidence with which you can deliver your work.
Step 6: Practice Communication Skills
Becoming a data analyst is not merely all about numbers. You should communicate your results to those who may not be conversant with data in any way.
Key Skills to Develop:
Clearly formulated writing
Creating great slide decks
Giving a secure presentation during meetings
Antithesis: Some others suppose that powerful technical proficiency is a guarantee on its own. Nevertheless, analysts that are somehow incompetent in communicating their results will not have much impact.
Step 7: Apply for Entry-Level Roles or Internships
With a few solid projects and basic tools under your belt, you’re ready to start applying. Look for roles like:
Junior Data Analyst
Reporting Analyst
Business Intelligence Intern
Tailor your resume to highlight practical skills and include links to your portfolio.
Final Thoughts
Turning into a data analyst is not a race. You do not require being a mathematical genius or a coding master to start. Curiosity, an ability to learn and patience to develop skills gradually are also needed.
Summary Checklist:
Understand the role
master fundamentals (spreadsheet, statistics, SQL)
Select any one analysis tool
Carry out real world projects
Create a portfolio
Practice communication
Take entry level jobs
It may seem overwhelming at first, but many successful analysts started just where you are—curious, uncertain, but ready to learn.

The New Search Era: AI Prioritises Data, Not Destination
Here’s what no one tells you about the future of search: it’s no longer about sending traffic to your website. It’s about serving answers directly before a user ever clicks. Google’s AI Overviews are making that reality loud and clear.
If you’ve noticed your organic clicks dropping, your carefully crafted blog content being skimmed past, or your product pages buried under zero-click results, you’re not alone.
The game has changed. And in this new AI-first landscape, the brands that win are the ones who show up with data, not fluff. Insights, not intros. Clarity, not clutter.
Let’s break down what’s really happening and what smart B2B startups need to do about it.
Forget Rankings. Focus on Responses.
Traditional SEO taught us to chase traffic. Rank high, get the clicks, nurture the lead. Simple, right?
But AI Overviews? They’re flipping that logic.
Search engines are no longer prioritising where to send users. Instead, they’re trying to eliminate the need for a click at all.
Google’s AI now scrapes and compiles information from multiple sources to deliver “answers” directly on the results page. And while that might be great for users, for brands it means one thing:
If your content isn’t structured to feed the AI’s understanding, you’re invisible.
Your Website Isn’t the Destination, Your Data Is.
If you’re still writing content to “rank for keywords,” it’s time to recalibrate.
AI is no longer ranking pages based on old-school SEO metrics. It’s evaluating how well your content answers intent-rich queries, fits schema markup, and integrates into knowledge graphs.
In other words, AI isn’t looking for pretty blog posts. It’s looking for credible data.
That means your marketing team needs to start thinking like a product team:
What structured content can we surface?
Are we using a schema to tag it?
Can our data be easily parsed and pulled into AI summaries?
Because in this world, being source material beats being page one.
The Rise of the “Answer Engine”
Let’s call this what it is: we’ve entered the Answer Engine era.
And your goal isn’t just visibility anymore, it’s extractability. If AI can’t easily extract meaning from your site, you don’t get featured. Period.
That’s where Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) comes in. It’s not just the evolution of SEO. It’s what connects your brand to the way search works now.
AEO helps you:
Make your site machine-readable
Align content to high-intent search patterns
Build topic authority across your niche
Show up in AI Overviews and voice search queries
So, What Should You Be Doing Now?
If you’re a startup with limited marketing resources, here’s the real talk:
You don’t need more content. You need better signals.
That means: ✔ Structuring your existing content with schema ✔ Prioritising entity mapping and topic clusters ✔ Using clear, concise language that aligns with user intent ✔ Thinking beyond blogs — Use case pages, product documentation, FAQs, and glossaries all matter
This is the kind of strategy you won’t get from a junior marketer or your old SEO playbook.
AI’s Not the Enemy. But It’s Not Waiting for You
Most bootstrapped founders I talk to are still wondering why their content isn’t performing. The truth?
You’re not behind because your product isn’t good. You’re behind because your data isn’t optimised for the new rules of search.
This isn’t just a content shift. It’s a mindset shift.
And if your internal team isn’t set up to think strategically about AEO, structured content, and AI-readiness, then it’s time to bring in leadership that can.
Final Thoughts: Don’t Just Show Up — Be Found
We’re moving into a world where search engines don’t just recommend. They respond. And the brands that get seen will be the ones built for extraction, not just exploration.
If you’re ready to align your SEO and marketing with where search is going, not where it’s been. AEO isn’t optional. It’s urgent.

What if you’d rather just see web links? Unfortunately, AI Overviews are baked into the default search results page now. You can’t opt out of seeing them or turn them off. While there’s no way to fully disable AI Overviews for your Google account, you can choose to just see a search results page filled with web links. You have to select a special filtered view after each individual query. After landing on the search result page topped with the AI Overview, click on the More tab—it should now appear among other filter options like Images, Videos, Shopping—and click Web. You’ll see a results page just showing links to actual websites.
