i got rickrolled today but it didn't work because i have adblocker installed, so youtube just told me i violated the terms of service. yesterday i was trying to edit a picture as a joke for my girlfriend, and google made me check a box to prove i'm human because i wasn't "searching normally".
it isn't just that capitalism is killing fun and whimsy, it is that any element of entertainment or joy is being fed upon by this mosquito body, one that will suck you dry at any vulnerability.
do you want to meet new friends in your city? download this app, visit our website, sign up for our email list. pay for this class on making a terrarium, on candlemaking, on cooking. it will be 90 dollars a session. you can go to group fitness, but only under our specific gym membership. solve the puzzle, sign up for our puzzle-of-the-month-club. what is a club if not just a paid opportunity - you are all paying for the same thing, which makes you a community.
but you're like me, i know it - you're careful, you try the library meetings and the stuff at the local school and all of that. the problem is that you kind of want really specific opportunities that used to exist. you are so grateful for libraries and the publicly-funded things: they are, however, an exception - and everything they have, they've fought tooth-and-nail to protect. you read a headline about how in many other states, libraries have virtually nothing left.
do you want to meet up with your friends afterwards? gift your friends the discord app. you can choose to go to a cafe (buy a coffee, at least), a bar (money, alcohol) or you can all stay in and catch a movie (streaming) or you can all stay in bed (rent. don't get me started) and scream (noise complaint. ticket at least).
you want to read a new book, but the book has to have 124 buzzwords from tiktok readers that are, like, weirdly horny. you can purchase this audiobook on audible! your podcast isn't on spotify, it's on its own server, pay for a different site. fuck, at least you're supporting artists you like. the art museum just raised their ticket price. once, they had a temporary exhibit that acknowledged that ~85% of their permanent art galleries were from cis white men, and that they had thousands of works by women (even famous women, like frida! georgia o'keefe!) just rotting in their basement. that exhibit lasted for 3 months and then they put everything away again.
walmart proudly supports this strip of land by the street! here are some flowers with wilting leaves. its employees have to pay out-of-pocket for their uniforms. my friend once got fined by the city because she organized a community pick-up of the riverfront, which was technically private property.
no, you cannot afford to take that dance class, neither can i. by the way - i'm a teacher. i'm absolutely not saying "educators shouldn't be paid fairly." i'm saying that when i taught classes, renting a studio went from 20 bucks an hour to 180 in the span of 6 months. no significant changes to the studio were made, except they now list the place as updated and friendly. the heat still doesn't work in the building. i have literally never seen the landlord who ignores my emails. recently they've been renting it out at night as an "unusual nightclub; a once-in-a-lifetime close-knit party." they spent some of those 180 dollars on LEDs and called it renovating. the high heels they invite in have been ruining the marley.
do you want to experience the old internet? do you want to play flash games or get back the temporary joy of club penguin? you can, you just need to pay for it. i have a weird, neurodivergent obsession with occasionally checking in to watch the downfall and NFT-ification of neopets. if i'm honest with you all - i never got into webkins, my family didn't have the money to buy me a pointless elephant. people forget that "being poor" can mean literally "if i buy you that toy, i can't afford rent."
you and i don't have time to make good food, and we don't have the budget for it. we are not gonna be able to host dinner parties, we're not made of money, kid. do you want some kind of 3rd space? a space that isn't home or work or school? you could try being online, but - what places actually exist for you? tiktok counts as social media because you see other people on it, not because they actually talk to you.
there was a local winter tradition of sledding down the hill at my school. kids would use pizza boxes and jackets and whatever worked, howling and laughing. back in september, they made a big announcement that this time, rules were changing, and everyone must pay 10 dollars to participate. when im not scared shitless, i kind of appreciate the environmental irony - it hasn't gone below 40. so much for snow & joyriding.
i saw a bulletin for a local dogwalking group and, nervous about making a good first impression, showed up early. the first guy there grimaced at me. "sorry," he said. "there's a 30-dollar buy-in fee." i thought he was joking. wait. for what? the group doesn't offer anything except friendship and people with whom to walk around the city.
he didn't know the answer. just shrugged at me. "you know," he said. "these days, everything costs money."

Hello there!
so, here's the deal:
I, a burnt out autistic highschooler, want to create an app for therians (as a therian myself).
Here's the basic features:
A database full of information on as many animals as possible (that can and will be updated!)
Blank templates for otherkins!
Each user has a profile- public or private- and can add theriotypes and notes about those theriotypes!
A journal feature where you can add pictures, drawings, and notes to a digital journal, similar to a glorified notes app lol- and you can make certain parts of your journal public or private!
Packs!
What are packs?
Have some word soup as an explanation: Basically if you want to create a pack to either make friends or add your friends, you can submit a pack request, where you explain why you want to make a pack and if you have specific people in mind to join, and I'm thinking that I don't want it to be like everyone has their own pack or whatever so that's why it has to be approved and stuff like I don't want too many different packs. Basically it's like a discord server or an amino thingy it's a big group chat and the pack creators can set up virtual events and send out pings like "hey! Join this zoom call if you wanna do some arts and crafts!!" Or smth like that
It's a database and a community!! If you would like to help out, please please please send an ask!! I would love all the support I can get!
P.S.
BE NICE AND DRINK WATER

on migrating my personal website to a cheaper virtual private server in Europe
81k: I'm going to be on my phone for reasons when we're in the restaurant, sorry
me: That's okay, I'm going to on my laptop buying and setting up a virtual server in Nuremberg
my ancestors: why are you procuring a large empty manuscript in this faraway country we have never heard of and have no chance of visiting
me: I have thoughts I want to write down and share with anyone who's interested
me: and due to how the world works right now, buying this manuscript in Germany is the most cost effective way to do that.
ancestors: are they good thoughts? to travel the land like that? what are they about
me: let's not go into that

Alt National Park Service
We apologize for the length of this post, but we felt it was important to share the full details with you.
In early March, a group of Musk-affiliated staffers from the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) arrived at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the federal agency responsible for protecting workers’ rights and handling union disputes. They claimed their mission was to improve efficiency and cut costs. But what followed raised serious alarms inside the agency and revealed a dangerous abuse of power and access.
Once DOGE engineers were granted access to the NLRB’s systems, internal IT staff quickly realized something was wrong. Normally, any user given access to sensitive government systems is monitored closely. But when IT staff suggested tracking DOGE activity—standard cybersecurity protocol—they were told to back off. Soon after, DOGE installed a virtual system inside the agency’s servers that operated in secret. This system left no logs, no trace of its activity, and was removed without a record of what had been done.
Then, large amounts of data began disappearing from the system. This wasn’t routine data—it included sensitive information on union strategies, ongoing legal cases, corporate secrets, and even personal details of workers and officials. None of it had anything to do with cutting costs or improving efficiency. It simply wasn’t supposed to leave the NLRB under any circumstance.
Almost immediately after DOGE accounts were created, login attempts began—from a Russian IP address. These weren’t random hacks. Whoever it was had the correct usernames and passwords. The timing was so fast it suggested that credentials had either been stolen, leaked, or shared. Security experts later said that if someone wanted to hide their tracks, they wouldn’t make themselves look like they were logging in from Russia. This wasn’t just sloppy—it was bold, calculated, and criminal.
One of the NLRB’s IT staffers documented everything and submitted a formal disclosure to Congress and other oversight bodies. But instead of being protected, he was targeted. A threatening note was taped to his door, revealing private information and overhead drone photos of him walking his dog. The message was clear: stay silent. He didn’t. He went public.
This isn’t just a cybersecurity issue—it’s a coordinated effort to infiltrate government agencies, bypass legal safeguards, and harvest data that can be used for political, corporate, or personal leverage. With Elon Musk directing DOGE, it’s hard not to see the motive: access to union files, employee records, and legal disputes that could benefit his companies and silence critics. This same playbook appears to be unfolding across multiple federal agencies, with DOGE operatives gaining quiet access to sensitive systems and extracting vast amounts of data without oversight.
The truth is, DOGE was never about making government more efficient. It was about taking control of it from the inside. What happened at the NLRB is not an isolated incident—it’s a warning of what happens when billionaires are handed unchecked power inside public institutions.

Hey everyone,
Fair warning, this will be yet another fandom wank post. I'm not going to put it under read more as I want it be visible. This isn't anything "huge" or important either
To put it simply; I finally left the public Modding Server because of Cybervesna.
You should know that there are at least two channels in this server where people can make fun of others in total impunity; in fact, if you call it out, you get removed from said channels. This is what happened to me and why I decided to finally leave this place
The "golden" channel main purpose was to share funny, confusing and/or random nexus comments or moments that every modders get at least once
Instead, for the past 3 days, Cybervesna was kinkshaming and mocking user Bubbliejubblie for their bodyhorror fetish virtual photography in this channel
🔸 You can find screenshot in this imgur album Note that Cybervesna is blocked and her first posts does not appear on the screenshots because of a script - you can see her (going by "Circle-jerk owner") post being replied to in later screenshots
After this happened, I posted a vent post on Tumblr about how much of an asshole move this was, without mentioning the server or cybervesna by name (you can find a screenshot of this post in the next imgur album, covnersation with the moderators)
This morning, I notice that the Golden channel is gone. Following my guts feeling, I decide to ask a moderator in DM about it, then to ask directly in the server
🔸 You can find screenshots of the conversation here as well
To understand why this is unfair, as mentioned in the screenshoted conversation, Cybervesna has been harassing me in this same server, without any consequences for her (she got told to stop in the server, which she then continued into tumblr; something that is now being held against me. I've never seen these posts of her before asking my friends for screenshots of them, to share to the moderators)
🔸 Screenshots about her harassment and how I tried to report it to the moderators, in vain
I should also point out that these two incidents ^ weren't the first time Cybervesna attacked me in a public place "out of spite" or just to air out her own issues with me
🔸 Her attacking me on NexusMods after the DP update
I do not have any final word to say here. Take it into consideration if you want to, be careful of what you vent on your own accounts because people with certain friendships will abuse it to get you out of public spaces.
Do not attack anyone mentioned in this post or visible in any of the screenshots; you can judge them, you can judge me, but do not attack anyone.
🔸 Do not be like Cybervesna, who publicly attacks others for using certain aesthetics, fonts, or "styles"
Edit - I want to add a precision concerning the usage of DMs from ManaVortex and I's conversation
Mana and I had three distincts type of discussions; the modding talk, the user/moderator talk, and the personal talk
The screenshots I've included were exclusively from our "User to Moderator" talks - these discussions happened in the context of my harassment in the Modding Server
I want to explain again why I had to include these DMs, why I think it was important to include them in the context of what happened:
Cybervesna complained in DMs to ArasakaApart, who is also a Moderator of the Modding Server, and sent him a screenshot of my un-tagged private vent post (that she couldn't have direct access to, because she is blocked since 2022)
These out-of-server complains prompted ArasakaApart to remove me from a channel in the server, meaning that Cybervesna's DMs had a direct repercution to the server, to its moderation and to its users
With that in mind, we can assume other instances of moderation took place in DMs - this is the reason I included my DMs with ManaVortex, who is another moderator of this server
This post isn't against/about ManaVortex - or ArasakaApart, for that matter. This post is about Cybervesna's constant harassment and how she was able to use her friendship with a Moderator to kick me out of a channel, by sending a screenshot of a private tumblr post via DM
I personally think it's important to include my own DMs, my own experience with a Moderator, in the context of my ongoing harassment in this server, and how this specific Moderator's actions contrasted drastically with the other Moderator's actions which caused me to eventually leave the server

Just read everything... I don't really have much to say, as you pretty much covered everything my high-empathy, mediator brain would've said. I just wanted to offer you a virtual hug... I'm so sorry you've had to deal with so many struggles. I can't imagine what you must've felt this whole time!
Also, I actually totally understand that last part with the nightmares. I actually have very similar nightmares, as one of my biggest fears is hurting people. Especially after going through a period of mental instability where I would unintentionally lash out at random. I may not fully understand to the extent of what you've experienced, but I do have some similar experiences and empathize heavily with what you're going through.
There are others out there with similar if not the same types of struggles. So just know that you are never alone.
I hope this brings you some level of peace.
i’ve never felt like i’ve had anyone to relate to especially in the wof fandom. One wof youtuber lets her moderator in her server be ableist towards mentally ill people, the one i mentioned in the document who claimed i was harassing them. I’ve been banned from talons of peace and another server for having intrusive thoughts, even though the dms i sent of that happening was with permission in private dms. every other person i’ve met does not possess the amount of issues i have, which of course that’s completely valid to. Being mentally ill in the wof fandom feels so alien. i can’t keep track of the amount of times i’ve been called psychotic or told that i deserve to stay in a mental hospital by people in the wof fandom, even told to go kill my self. I’ve been stalked and harassed for months over this whole situation, and i don’t know who it is.
anyways, enough talk, here’s a salad doodle because i need to calm down

Headsets and what nots
Pairing: Alex Walter x female reader
<<< >>>
And it was maddening. To be around him. Alex Walter had that magnetic pull that the only one oblivious to it was himself. He commanded the presence of everyone around him by his silence and through his gentleness. All the words he spoke were kind, he never raised his voice. He was ready to step in and help and you couldn’t help but observe him.
It started off as a bet you made with yourself, to prove to your conscience that no one as good as him could exist because everyone at some point was bound to mess up. But not him. What had started as a game now became an obsessive chore, to crave for that vindication of being right which he made it more frustrating. He never slipped up. No unnecessary advances, the perfect combination of jokes, just the right level of touches. He kept his slate clean and you were a private investigator on the verge of going mad.
Alex led the gaming club so he was busy with new members and setting up servers or the basic orchestration of the event. Whereas you as a newly joined member was privy to the gossip and the love ridden sighs. The boys were here to play and the girls, well they were here for Alex Walter.
Everyone knew of this, except him. It was as though he was oblivious to it, impervious rather to all the attention he received. His attention was under his control. Who he gave it to, how he let the world know who his people were. You didn’t have to fight for his gaze, you had to earn it.
You kept your head down, university was supposed to be a new start. All you wanted was a friend and that was all. Locking yourself up in your dorm room only made your lonely life even lonelier and trying to meet up with people in your class did not go well either. Parties were not your scene so the only best place to be was here. In the back of this internet cafe, building cities in this virtual world along with people you only knew through avatars and usernames.
Here, you could just be, without a history.
You had forgotten to bring your headphones so you enabled the chat function and started to play the game with the people who were waiting in the game lobby. All you could hear from time to time was Alex’s name popping up often that he spent his time solving queries rather than playing.
You had one class in common with him and often passed by him in university grounds. Your eyes would meet occasionally and that was it. Apart from being far off acquaintances, you had never spent time in real time.
You were working your way through a level when out of the blue your character was attacked, making you lose the level. You thumped the desk with your fist at the disappointment when you noticed the chat. All the other players were stating it would have been easier if you were able to hear them as you had missed out on their warning.
You sunk into your seat contemplating if playing another round was worth it when someone tapped you on your shoulder.
“You can use my headset, I noticed you didn’t have one.”, you heard him.
Alex stood next to you, his face held a serene expression with a lopsided grin.
“I’ll be fine. I don’t want to be a bother.”, you let him know, a smile spreading across your face.
But he didn’t argue with you or make a scene of his lovely gesture. It was just between him and you. He held the headset apart as he fixed it over your head gently. You had to look away because he was so close. His eyes focusing on the work at hand as you sat there frozen feeling the warm soft touch on his fingertips against your cheek. He pulled down the microscope and your lips parted in surprise because his thumb grazed the edge of your bottom lip. You couldn’t help but look into his eyes and when his gaze fell on you for a second, it was as though the world had stopped and it did as he paused to look at you.
He reached out to swipe your bangs to the side as he fixed them from falling across your forehead, you were certain your heart had given out because you couldn’t even open your mouth to thank him.
“Perfect.”, he said as his eye glimmered with mischief but before you could say anything he got up to plug the wire into the port and the noise of your teammate’s chatter flooded in.
With that he walked away, and now you were back to square one, you couldn’t find a flaw in him.
Alex never quite liked his position as the person who ran the club cause it was a lot more effort than he had realised.
But now as he stood at the main table, supervising the other members, he was free to sneak glimpses of you.
The bright smile after you win, the frustration creasing your eyebrows when you lost, his fingers still tingled from the bold move he had somehow managed to pull, to feel the soft touch of your skin. He would have never done this with Jackie but with you, he felt like himself. Confident and certain in what he wanted. His heart didn’t beat against his chest, it instead covered him with a sense of comfort.
There was something about you he couldn’t quite place, something that made it impossible for him to look at anyone else.

10 little subtle ways and things you could be doing that are witchy!
(esp if you're still in the broom closet) ❤️🦊
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. virtual and online altars
pinterest boards dedicated to your gods/goddesses; quotes and aesthetics.
tumblr dedication blogs.
social media page with your witchy alias.
discord server, a private place to organise channels and create categories for what you want, i.e., spellwork, candle magick, crystal associations, etc.
music playlists, for both manifesting and connecting with your deities, they love coming through music.
2. journal/book altars
similar to the idea of a book of shadows, this will be personal writings and thoughts for specific deities.
you can customise it and decorate it much like a physical altar! i.e., stickers, washi tapes, markers, sparkles.
custom spreads for whomever you work with, you can put prayers you've written for them, words you want to convey, and express.
3. the wooden box altar, also known as a travelling altar
a place to put all your trinkets and necessities.
if you're unable to have a physical space, having one that's portable will help you take your altar wherever you go.
you can carve/paint the box to be more personal for you, or to be ultra discreet about it you can just customise the inner part so it doesn't stick out to people you don't want knowing yet.
Tumblr media
4. origami shapes
for manifesting, write out what you would like and fold it into a star to carry out the manifestation.
use the idea of symbolism to embed your intentions, for luck, a four leaf clover. for allowing new opportunities to find you and let go, a butterfly, to succeed in something you could make a bird; "soaring to new heights."
you could also use this time to connect with your deities, just being with them in the moment.
Tumblr media
5. financial abundance
if you can't blow cinnamon on the first day of the new month, put a dash of it in your morning coffee or tea first thing.
use of coins in the soil of your plants welcomes in prosperity.
likewise with coins, frogs are symbolic of wealth.
a bay leaf where you keep your wallet/purse, the exchange of the money you give out you will receive back with a little extra.
Tumblr media
6. kitchen magick/green witchery
add spices/herbs to help achieve something you want i.e.,
pancakes with vanilla and honey to bring in loving and warm energy.
adding pepper/salt/basil/rosemary to encourage protection.
for clarity and insight, chamomile tea.
to have peaceful and calm resolve, lemonade with fresh mint leaves.
Tumblr media
7. clothing and jewellery
wearing items of clothing or jewellery in honour of your deities, i.e.
rings, bracelets, and necklaces that symbolise something of them for you.
shirts with quotes you feel resemble them; colour associations work plenty.
if you crochet or make your own items of clothing, knot magick or sewing in a symbol that means something for you can help you feel confident when wearing it.
Tumblr media
8. self-care can be devotional
doing things that make you happy whilst doing it in honour of your deities allows them to be present in your simple joys.
writing, poetry, reading; feeling called to read something because it holds a message for you.
indulging a show or something you watched in your childhood years, deities take pleasure in watching something that means alot to you and will be grateful to share that moment.
treats and specific cravings, i.e., little upg, but loki loves sweet pastries.
taking a walk about in nature gives your deities more room to show you the beauty of the world. take them to your favourite bench, to your favourite coffee shop.
knot magick, if you crochet, make something in honour of your gods/goddesses. they will ensure it brings you comfort when you hold it.
painting your nails, you can charge your nail polish beneath the moon or mix in a little moon water to be energised and intuitively connected.
Tumblr media
9. cleansing and clearing of old energy
water
will help the bad flow out and let the good flow in.
showers/baths are good for self-cleansing.
holding a glass of water before drinking it and wish your intentions.
crying, allowing yourself to feel what it is you're trying to process in order for it to be released. can't release something you haven't finished going through yet.
moon water, I recommend this during a new moon as that's more symbolic to starting anew, planting seeds and encouragement toward growth.
sun water, can help with energising you and bringing in positive energy, also a confidence boost.
earth
holding onto a crystal for a few moments, just breathing in and out.
crystals can be used for cleansing, smoky quartz, clear quartz. there is a crystal for all your needs.
plants! plants are great for protection and for taking in bad energy. they will listen to what you have to say, and will love you as much as you love them.
food, especially grown from the earth can help you feel refreshed and buzzing with energy.
fire
burning, writing out your hardships, struggles, anger and burning them (safely please).
lighting a candle while you work on something, very therapeutic, and you can visualise the bad energy being burnt out and released.
incense, the smoke is a natural cleanser and will do wonders. you aren't restricted to using sage to cleanse; others you could use are myrrh, sandalwood, lavender, or cedar. it's completely up to what your preferences are.
air
breathing in and out during meditation, as you take in some air and release it, upon release visualise what you're letting go of.
bells, the frequency of dinging bells helps to disperse bad energy.
sound cleansing through soft music, and intentional frequencies. you'll find alot of these up on youtube.
Tumblr media
10. divination methods (aside from tarot/pendulums that i know of)
clouds, observing what you see and the shapes you recognise, what you need to know will be reflected in nature.
ceromancy, candle wax, burning a candle after asking for some clarity or an answer and having the wax form a shape for you to interpret.
numerology, angel numbers, and the significance of the numbers.
automatic writing, done in your personal journal, it's unconscious writing that can help channel messages you may need.
bibliomancy, randomly selecting a passage or words from a book.
capnomancy, the use of smoke from candles or incense, and reading the shapes and forms casted by the smoke
conchomancy, divination through seashells, shapes, and the type of shell.
casting a set of charms on a cloth and divinating the meaning of where they landed.

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. It’s a type of hosting where a physical server is divided into multiple virtual servers, each operating independently with its own dedicated resources. What is VPS? Though multiple VPS instances share the same physical machine, each is isolated and functions like a standalone VPS server.
Think of it like living in an apartment building (the server): you have your own unit (VPS) with dedicated resources—CPU, RAM, storage—and your neighbors can’t access or affect your environment.
So, when someone asks: “What is a VPS?” or “What is VPS hosting?”, the simple answer is: a virtual private server  offers more control, performance, and flexibility than shared hosting, without the high cost of a dedicated server .

Is Musk a Russian agent?
More information very similar to that shared before. Infiltration of private citizens' information by DOGE with accounts and passwords set up that were then immediately used from somewhere in Russia. I believe Musk is an actual Russian spy. Trump's a patsy, a useful idiot. Musk, however, got them direct access.

Hey, and welcome to a bubblef1zz post. Let's talk about ways you can cope or try to heighten communication between your parts. A lot of these are commonly said, so sorry about that!!
Tumblr media
Leaving notes
Leaving notes around! I personally bought a bulk load of flashcards to jot down important information. For example, a flashcard of mine can say ‘my turn to do the dishes’ with the date written on it. Or it can say ‘had to throw out chicken; it went bad’. I've also found affirmation cards, parts making themselves known to me, and such! These notes can also be done virtually in note apps.
Adding on!! There's also whiteboards and corkboards if you want to leave more external notes that aren't on flashcards. That way, you can simply erase something when it's over with.
Tumblr media
Using chat apps
What do I mean by this? Many of you may know that Simply Plural (an app for system tracking) also has the option of a chat space, where alters can communicate. Of course, you're not limited to SP! I know many use Discord (private servers that may or may not have proxy bots), fake text conversation apps, ANTAR, and so, so many more like it! I'll be putting this here under this category, but I've found that my blogs have helped me understand the views my parts have and even what they seem to like to talk about.
Tumblr media
Art/Images
This may be a strange one, but pictures! Communication through pictures can be helpful. For example, sometimes to show what I've eaten I'll take a picture and upload it privately somewhere so the time and date is noted clearly.
Tumblr media
Journaling
Similar to taking notes; journaling! Starting a journal to jot down how your day has been, what happened, and such is a great way to help with amnesia and communication.
Tumblr media
Thank you for reading — 𐔌 💌🫧 𐦯
I hope this helps!!

Online/Offline [C.S] - one hundred and three | I don’t think we’re talking about the same thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Aww!” You said as you spawned in and saw that Virtual Byeol was on the floor next to your bed. “Our digital furbaby!”
San spawned in a second later. “Oh she of ones and zeroes~” he sang.
“She of ones and zeroes~” you echoed.
You both laughed.
“Shall we take a tour about the grounds, my former fake boyfriend?” You asked.
“Mmm, indubitably,” he said like a fancy rich man.
“Do they have monocles in this game? You need one.”
He laughed.
The two of you walked around your palatial estate and checked on everything. The world was on the Realms servers, so it’s not like anything could change since neither of you had logged on since the last time you played together on stream, but it was nice to see that everything was in its place. You, also: didn’t remember exactly where everything was, and you wanted to get a look at it all to refresh yourself.
“Hmm.” He said.
“What?”
“I think I want to change the garden a little.”
“Why’s that?”
“Youtube recommended a video to do a kind of… hanging gardens thing, and I kind of want to do that with some of it.”
“Ooh, that sounds nice. Do you want to send me the video and we can start working on it?”
“Oh-- yeah. Do you want to change everything? I remember you liked the way it was before.”
“A lot has changed between then and now. I’m up for a remodel.”
You couldn’t tell, but because he paused for a moment before saying, “Okay,” you thought he might have smiled.
The two of you got to work: he sent you the video to watch, but he streamed it privately for you to see anyway. The two of you making note of what you wanted to do and where it should go in the landscape.
“You know… what I think?” You asked.
“You hate it?”
“What? No! I already told you I liked it.” You laughed.
“Then what are you thinking?”
“Wait a second, why did you think I’d hate it?”
“Because it’s kind of a project.”
“You-- you’re silly. Were you not involved in my months-long sting operation?”
He laughed. “Yeah, I guess you’re not afraid of complicated things.”
“I invented complicated things, pal. The world was so simple before I showed up.”
He laughed again.
You chuckled at him. How could he have forgotten your - if anyone else knew about it - most famous antic so quickly?
“So what were you thinking?”
“I’m thinking… The hanging gardens will cover the house, right? Like if you look at it from far away.”
“Mhm. Should we not do it then?”
“NO. We should, but we raise the house as well.”
“Raise… the house?” His avatar moved away from you and ran backwards a few - whatever the in-game equivalent of yards is - as he looked at the front of your house. He stared at it a few more seconds before turning back to you--
“This is very dramatic.”
“The suggestion makes me feel dramatic.”
You laughed at him.
He looked back at the house and back at you. “You realize this would mean changing everything about it, right? We’ll have to break all the lower blocks just to move it up.”
“Yeah. But I think we can do it.”
He looked at the house again.
“We have nothing in the world but time. And you don’t stream anymore so how else are we supposed to hang out outside of work?”
“True… we could just hang out in person.”
“That’s true too. But I like building things with you.”
He paused. “Yeah.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Let’s do it.”
“Yesss!” You ran towards the house. “Com’on, let’s break shit!”
“Wait! We need a plan!”
Tumblr media
Somewhere in the neighborhood of two hours later, the two of you were breaking blocks to redo the garden, since that would be the easier of the two projects. The house itself would need a big replanning that you might actually have to break out a pencil and paper for. Breaking blocks was easy at least.
You talked about anything and everything as you both ran around tak-tak-tak-pop!-ing blocks.
“Yeah, so apparently she’s liked him this whole time.”
“Woww…”
The conversation lulled into a comfortable silence, and you knew now was the moment where you could finally bring up what you wanted to talk about.
“So, uh, I wanted to ask you about something I was told.” You started. tak-tak-tak-pop!
“...Oh.” tak-tak-tak-pop!
“‘Oh’? Why do you sound like you know what it is?” tak-tak-tak-pop!
“Because… you had to find out at some point.” tak-tak-tak-pop!
tak-tak-tak-pop! “Uh-- did I?”
tak-tak-tak-pop! “Yeah.”
“Well, you haven’t said anything this whole time, so…” tak-tak-tak-pop! “I guess?”
“I guess.” tak-tak-tak-pop! “But with Quack around, it was bound to happen.”
You paused. “Wait, I don’t think we’re talking about the same thing.”
tak-tak-tak-pop! “I-- no?”
“What are you talking about?”
“What are you talking about?” tak-tak-tak-pop!
“I asked first, you have to answer.”
“I… I thought we were talking about how I’ve been watching your streams for years.” tak-tak-tak-pop!
You were silent. You heard a few more tak-tak-tak-pop!s as you stared at San’s avatar and processed what he had said. The noise stopped. He turned to you.
“Y/n?”
“WHAT???”

FREEDOM – Virtuality and Ideals/Chapter 1
Previous chapter
Eichi: ...In any case, now I’ve chided you lightly, in a way befitting the start of the fiscal new year¹, it’s time to get to the point.
Mao: (quietly) That was lightly?
Makoto: (quietly) Ahaha. I felt like it was rather heavy.
Eichi: I’d love to engage in more idle chatter, but that will have to wait until another time…
Eichi: Anzu-chan, would you be so kind as to hand out the documents I gave you to them?
Hokuto: “City Building Plans ‘FREEDOM’”?
Eichi: Indeed. There are plans to build a new city from scratch in a certain location, and I would like the four of you to lend a hand.
Subaru: Build a city? You want us to level a piece of land and start building houses?
Eichi: Yes. Work like that might be involved as well.
Makoto: Urk. That doesn’t really seem like work for a weak-bodied gamer like me…
Eichi: On the contrary. I think you’re actually the one who is suited for this job the most, Makoto-kun.
Eichi: Because we’re actually talking about a virtual simulation. The four of you will be building a fictitious city in a game.
Makoto: A virtual simulation? Then what is this “certain location” you mentioned...?
Eichi: A private online server. Did you really think they would leave the construction of a real, physical city to a bunch of young idols who only just graduated high school?
Subaru: Aww, and here I was thinking we’d get to drive excavators and bulldozers. Too bad☆
Mao: What are you on about? You don’t even have qualifications or a license for that kind of stuff♪
Hokuto: ...According to the documents, Anzu is in charge of this project, but will she be involved with building the city as well?
Eichi: No, it’s nothing more than a formal title. Anzu-chan won’t have anything to do with building the city.
Eichi: She will be there to manage you. I’m sure you’ll be more comfortable having her do that, rather than myself.
Makoto: Hmm. Just having us play a game? What a strange request. Though, as a gamer, I’m not going to complain…?
Makoto: Oh! This company…
Subaru: Ukki~ why are you staring at the list of supporting companies? Did you spot Wakame-san’s name on there?
Tumblr media
Makoto: Wh-Why would Izumi-san’s name be on there?
Makoto: I just spotted the name of a game company I know. It’s an experienced developer who has made lots of city-building sims.
Makoto: I’ve heard that their most recent games are so realistic that they even got recognition from professionals. Apparently, they’re even being used as infrastructure simulation tools.
Makoto: A few years back there was a rumor that they were working on a new game that would make use of AI. Could this job offer be a playtest or a PR stunt for that game?
Eichi: Sure. You could see it like that.
Eichi: The remuneration is outlined in the proposal. The agency will provide all the materials you will need. What do you think? Would you accept this job offer?
Hokuto: ...I guess we could. It’s not like we have other pressing jobs right now, and we don’t have any particular reason to refuse.
Subaru: Yup. I’m not sure what we’re gonna be doing exactly, but if Anzu is there, I’m not worried.
Subaru: It actually sounds like fun☆ I second that~♪
Mao: Ahaha. Here we go again, jumping right in without a plan, huh~?
Mao: But according to the documents, there’s also a life sim element to the game. It'd be nice if we could learn a thing or two through playing the game.
Makoto: Video games aren’t just a pastime, after all. We’ll do our best to be of use.
Eichi: I’m glad you’re all so positive about it. Well then, I’ll give you an introduction by launching the game on this PC.
Tumblr media
Eichi: ...This is the virtual space that has been prepared for you.
Mao: Huh? But isn’t this city finished already? It doesn’t look like there’s anything for us to do.
Eichi: It’s actually unfinished. Please, build and tear down buildings in whichever way you want.
Hokuto: It looks like there are people living in this city. It might be a game, but I’d feel bad about changing their environment…
Hokuto: Hm? Did I just see a tiny Akehoshi?
Subaru: Oh? Where?
Makoto: I see him, too. Why is he crouching in the middle of the street?
Mao: It looks like he found a sparkly little orb. He’s jumping up and down excitedly, just like the real Subaru would.
Eichi: I’m glad you noticed. This game actually has an AI.
Eichi: Avatars of Trickstar that are based on your habits and profiles are living freely in this city.
Hokuto: That only makes me more reluctant to change their environment, you know?
Eichi: Now, now. It’s just a virtual reality, so please keep that in mind. And it might be called a game, but there isn’t actually that much the player can do.
Eichi: What the player can influence are the mechanics pertaining to the development of the city, and the avatars’ career selection. The rest is up to the avatars themselves.
Eichi: The player can’t manipulate the avatars’ actions or emotions. You could call it a “god’s pov”.
Eichi: When the player wants to influence the game, they need in-game currency. In a standard game, you can only gain this currency through the management of your city…
Eichi: ...but to let you get used to the mechanics, I’ll provide you with a generous amount of funds for now.
Eichi: Alright. It’s time to play...♪
TL note:
“年度” is the Japanese word for the fiscal year. Unlike in most western countries, the Japanese fiscal year usually runs from April 1 to March 31, and coincides with the school year.
