alright. like I just said, I'm aroace, and I'm not interested in romance in general. but I also love ships. I'm a huge shipper.

but in general, in media I don't need to have romance, not everything.

this whole discussion (with myself lmao) came from the Opinion I have about future Sonic movies, and how I don't think they should include romance for the Main characters, side characters are fine. but in my opinion the main characters shouldn't be involved with romance plots.

as some media can be good. but can be completely ruined by a shit romance plot.

before i go any farther, I wanted to say. I'm not saying the writers can't write a romance. or that I don't have faith in them, I just want a popular film franchise where the main characters aren't in a romance storylines.

looking at the bigger picture our media and society as a whole is very revolved around Romance and romantic relationships. Queer media is also guilty of this (if you have any aro/ace focused media PLEASE give me recs) and growing up 99% of the media I watched had a romance plot. And now, most of the media I WANT to see (for other reasons) still has a romance that doesn't really need to be there and is pointless to the plot.

If the plot was reliant on it that's another story. But if it's there JUST to be there. It better be really damn good. If I need to take time outta a movie I payed like. $6 to see and a portion that could've been used for the plot is spent on a terribly written romance plot that adds nothing and will mean the ACTUAL STORY I payed to see is pushed aside for it I'm gonna be pissed.

This is also why I don't want romance in the new MCU Spiderman movie. And ALSO Not beyond the spiderverse. I don't think Miles and Gwen should date. I think this trilogy should be about a kid coming into his own as Spiderman and not have a Romance thrown in there. And as for MCU Spiderman I think for AT LEAST the next movie Peter should stay single. Keep him isolated. Alone. Have him start with making FRIENDS. FIRST. (Obv I want him and MJ back together tho)

This is why I love things like Rise of the TMNT. the only ACTUAL romance is a past one that was before the series and it's Big Mama and Splinter. None of the main characters, the only other possible romances are implied or just plain fanon.

In my opinion if a piece of media doesn't need romance (like ROTTMNT) leave that to the fans to make (like srsly. Look at TMNT 2012. THAT is another reason why I don't think everything needs romance. THATS WHY (Also I feel Tales of the TMNT COULD be going this way....I hope it doesn't have a romance plot. I feel it could ruin it. Sometimes you just gotta LEAVE THE ROMANCE TO THE FANS) the Riordanverse does SOME relationships well. Like Percy and Annabeth, Magnus and Alex, Frank and Hazel, Nico and Will, but I will criticize it. Leo didn't need a girlfriend (ESPECIALLY not Calypso), a reason I really LIKE the Trials of Apollo books is that Apollo/Lester doesn't end up with anyone. The books are focused on HIS development on HIS quest on HIM.)

MLP FIM is also a great example of something that doesn't have major romance and how it's a huge strength. (And a reason why the Equestria Girls movies are kinda worse) none of the main characters are in relationships in the series. Only in the finale. And they're mainly (Exept Pinkie and Cheese) are implied. Not explicitly romantic.

Every time just Leo comes up as the subject of a damn Instagram post there are people screaming at each-other over whether Rise Leo is the worst or best version and I can fix it for all of them, neither, both, it doesn’t fucking matter. Literally he’s just a different take and depending on if he was your first Leonardo or not he’s going to hit really differently. He’s everyone’s first Leon. The amount Rise Leo talks alone is wildly off-brand (Leo has like 6 lines in the entire secret of the ooze movie) and the frolicking was certainly a choice. A good one that I loved. Haaa had you there for a sec. Writers are always a bit ‘wtf do we do with Leo’ and Laird (co-creator of TMNT) has said before that Leonardo speaks formally so we know Rise Leo is on that shit list. But I don’t think the point of Rise was a reiteration, but a reimagining.

Leo, by design, is the responsible kid who despite age always falls into the brother-dad role and ends up in charge of wrangling his brothers (and it being all his fault when they fail). Subsequently he gets a lot of gloomy emo plot lines, a bunch of trauma, and when he does have fun ends up punished for it somehow (the 24 comic line is slapping this guy too- a Leo who loses mercy is actually terrifying. I love the brutality but am also begging them to just let him be happy at some point)

Rise Leo had that older brother role taken which I found refreshing, and then noticed he’d had a core quality stripped and that was really hard to adapt to. He was taken from skilled ninja due to extreme dedication to his craft and let’s face it, obsession with martial arts *cough special interest cough* to being a guy who ditches practice and was just good at fighting anyway; shiny gifted kid aura and full Mary Sue. Rise Leo had his strategic nature was so well written in but he also had no right being any good in a fight, and I have a theory that’s pretty much what pissed off all the people you see so annoyed about Rise Leo and angry about it (that aren’t just raging homophobes who can’t deal with a little queer coding) Leo bi icon real. Immediately, sorry, I have to share this thought, 03 looking 12 straight in the eyes and locking in just to really deliberately say “Gross.” over the Karai thing. 12 staring back “Rabbit.” “That’s not even canon. …D” “Don’t you dare ask me if I think he likes you.” And rise Leo piping in like “Ew 12 is allergic to being interesting, ask anyway, so who’s this guy and be honest does he like 3 furthermore is he also absolutely jacked because that is a lot of turtle, like a lot a lot of one you know what I mean, What are you Saying 12 get out of here, that is so inappropriate.” 12 just staring at him horrified. LMAO hello I’m insufferable, Moving on.

It was nice to have him not parentified straight out of the gate, and I really liked the spin on his personality (that again was a writer choice because Leo is allegedly both really difficult and not much fun to write) but as someone who came into the 87’s as my sentience was forming, Rise really is like a ‘What If’ version of the turtles that had always been varying degrees of the same people for such a long time.

I completely get the obsessive group of Rise fans. If that was my first turtles I’d be just as in love with it (although I hope not the same breed as those Insta comment kids wtf is that behaviour) but I also get why people hate on it. To a lot of fans it’s like Rise are caricatures or a fan fiction. But the thing is- that’s so fine!? Why the fuck not. It’s good, well written, immensely entertaining and so well animated (Rise is the single best animated television version of TMNT, objectively). Basically the whole of the last IDW comic run read like a big fan fiction too and it was awesome…

So yeah, Wise man say just let people enjoy things and also if someone says they don’t like a thing you do, you can be like ‘that’s fine’ and totally leave them alone. You can just like stuff without everyone else also liking it, abandon the binary 👍

Honestly, I started with Viper as just an idea but then I really grew to love him, this isn't the final design for him but it's a start!

Viper is meant to almost be the opposite of Karai. Not really a foil but something else. Honestly, he's meant to be close friends with Leo as Leo doesn't get a main bestie, he's sort of hanging around but nobody to really talk with.

I'm interested in doing a rewrite of 2012 with some of my OC's mainly Viper and another one called Panther Claw (Tiger Claw's adopted son)

I am tempted to make Viper more punky but also I like the idea of him just being an awkward guy with some piercings.

Reasons why I made Viper a snake Mutant. The main reason is to have someone who wants to fit in but feels like he doesn't. It is shown Karai can change between Human and Mutant I wanted the same with Viper, basically he's trying hard to fit in as either human or Mutant but he feels very out of place with whatever he does. Viper can't hold his human side long and will often fall to the ground and shift into his snake mutant form which he struggles with mentally as it doesnt feel like him.

Viper's story can be seen as queer/trans in a way and I personally really like that. He has people who accept him as both The Turtles, April, Casey, and Splinter

He then has people who accept him as human. His family who I may or may not write, they aren't fully fleshed out yet.

And finally, he has people who accept him only as a Snake mutant. Mainly the mutant animals as sure they are okay with him being human but they see it as more of a use to sneak around than actually being both. Then there are just some random mutants who probably will harass him about being able to "fit in"

I personally really enjoy the idea with Viper and I plan to write about him more and study how to draw snake mutants as he was so much trouble!

Also if I do ramble about Panther and post stuff about him I'll write their friendship.

NOT to say i have a secret stash of porn or anything. in general im more interested in the implication of sexuality or mature themes over any explicit depiction. like everything i draw is so softcore itd almost feel silly to make a nsfw acc for anything.

but im not rly jumping to post anything on main either bc i get the sense i have a lot of kids in my social media following. it varies from site to site and fandom to fandom but the themes in my work often circle around childhood, coming of age etc and in general i like stories about kids so the fandoms i draw for have a lot of kids in them. even stuff like IT (stephen king) which is about kids but isn't necessarily for kids.. there were a lot of kids in that fandom lol.

actually thats why ive been censoring swears in comics lately because the tmnt fandom comes across to me as a little young...IDK I've had MULTIPLE people ask me what "sodomize" means because of the joke in this post and I'm like... I Cannot be the one to explain this to you. you have to look it up on your own klfsdhsdg like i wouldn't be doing this if i were doing a comic for mgs or even homestuck wherein the characters textually swear constantly LOL but sometimes u gotta change tacks depending on the faces u see in the crowd yknow.

i HAVE been thinking abt drawing nsfw of sunspot/richard rider/kobak from x-men red just because that comic seemed to be really asking for it. who knows.. if the need rly arises maybe my separate account policy will change.

its rly more a matter of the fact that i havent read/watched much of any other iterations... im sure id like most lol. I like most things related to my interests regardless of quality. i rly like the marvel ultimate alliance games for instance. sometimes seeing my fave guy is enough he doesnt have to be well written LOL. i dont exactly have a wealth of free time tho thats the real impediment.

i did watch the 2007 movie on new years eve and found it quite charming overall. and i have read about 30-40 issues between the mirage and idw comics. still feels like im barely scratching the surface but i liked em. i rly want to read all the sophie campbell stuff bc i think her work is interesting. jason aaron will be a mixed bag i think lmao. i say as the worlds biggest Wolverine and the X-Men (2011) fan.

hmm this is kinda hard bc i feel like i naturally draw very loose and the hard part for me is tightening it up. maybe some suggestions tho...

1) hand excercises. i think its easy to forget this when many artists sit in front of the computer all day but drawing is a physical activity u do with ur actual...bodys...muscles lol. if u feel urself tightening up it might help to strech (any google search for "artist hand excercises" should yield good results) or do a page of loose practice strokes like..big circles. long lines. scribbles. that kinda thing. whatever feels good for ur hand. this is also just good to do as a general warm up before u sit down for any drawing sesh.

2) draw further away from the canvas. as a general rule...when ur painting traditionally you do the big strokes with your whole arm outstreched and a long handled brush. and when you do the details its smaller wrist movements and a shorter handled brush. so it might help to take a step back or push back from ur chair a little.. or hold ur tablet a little further away. and hold your pen further away from the nib.

3) change mediums / brush types. some brushes and mediums are more suited to loose sketching and some more inclined towards detail work. so changing ur tool could help. also! i personally have this problem where sometimes if im using a brush i feel really familiar with the pressure to make a "good" "finished" "perfect" drawing is greater... if i want to force myself to loosen up ill switch to a tool i dont use as often so it feels like the pressure is off. a lot of times for me this is switching from digital to traditional. but sometimes its switching from a small pen to a big marker. or a smooth pen to a textured one. or a nice brush to a shitty dried up marker.

but also every body is different so i dont think these tips will work for everyone. u should listen to what ur body and mind tell u and how drawing feels to you

bro just sign up and set it up i dont think theres much to it... i dont rly think too much abt my itch.io store because its digital goods so u just upload the file and let it do its thing. no distribution work needed on ur part. youll notice i barely even advertise my itch unless i have smth new on there lol.. its easy. but good luck!!!

well. scott mcclouds understanding comics and making comics are good books on the craft. i think i had to buy them for a class in art school once.

other than that idk just keep at it. comics are really laborious i think for a lot of people the hardest part is sitting down and doing it.

i think a lot of people have a very instinctive understanding of how to read comics and what they look like so whatever you think seems like good way to tell the story you have in mind, its probably right. if u get stuck, study comics that have done something similar. most people in comics are relatively self taught and actually it can be problematic bc you can tell when a lot of comic artists are all copying the same like 5 old white guys LMAO. but on the flip side if you make sure to reference and study broadly your comics will almost assuredly feel unique.

sorry im responding to this anyways. this is just a really nice ask. i like when people reference my older work bc i feel like sometimes theyre subtly implying it wasnt very good LMAOOO. but its true! at least compared to the work i make now ^^ and the fact that im still making art is whats keeping me from being embarassed abt how much of my old art just floats around online lmao im never ashamed to be growing and learning. isnt that a nice thought <3

I really want an adult TMNT cartoon I also feel like that's something TMNT needs it has to go to more matured audience I'm not saying going all murder I'm just saying that the story's in TMNT are really dark and was always meant for adults and the kid rating is obviously holding the show back from being able to go in more depth with the Characters You can even tell that some of the show runners are annoyed they can't go darker with he series.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles changed the face of independent comics forever and it introduced a collective entity that rivals Cthulhu in popular culture. People get into fights over how characters get treated in fanfiction, isn't that insane? I got death threats for asking "what if Raph hurt Mike and felt bad about it" and my friends got death threats for putting characters in relationships. Can you even believe that?

Could you imagine what those immature people would think of a real adult TMNT cartoon? Like, on the level of other dark gritty adult animation? Hopefully they would stay the fuck away. I'm already imagining the death threats from whiny kids who think Raph doesn't gets enough angst and that Mikey needs his head caved in?

AAAA you have been giving me so many dopamine hits since we met, I love it. I did work hard on those fics. I wrote the first one in two months and it was over 100K and then I looked at my yellow painted walls and thought about the horror story The Yellow Wallpaper. I don't remember bits of writing and I think those bits were the really weird surreal ones. There's a bunch of those. And this was before I learned more about neurodivergence and PTSD and CPTSD and updated joint braces.

My favorite will always be 2012, despite all the writing issues I know it has- (That love triangle was godawful-) The simple light hearted reason is that it's the version I grew up with- The darker reason is that it was literally the only thing I had when I was in some dark places. I literally would not be alive if it weren't for this show-

Close follow ups are 2007 (Cuz it's what introduced me to TMNT in general), Rise (cuz of the animation, queer coding, and Donnie tism-)

2003 is honorary mention just cuz I love how weirdly dark it got at times-

As a kid who loved horror (clearly still do-) I loved episodes like Insane in the Membrane(2003) and Parasitica(2012).

As for favorite turtle, it changes depending on which iteration we're talking about but it's generally a tie between Mikey and Raph. The only exception being Rise, Donnie is my favorite there.

I related to Raph a lot as a kid, I was a very angry kid and sometimes I do still dip into that. (Also where my Karkat kin comes from-)

As for Mikey, he's just fun! And a very misinterpreted character. I will say Raph used to be my only favorite but through rewatches and forming my Unmasked Mikey AU, I like em both equally-

i first got into the fandom scene with aftg, but it wasn't my first experience with fandom. my favorite season is autumn, and my favorite holiday is halloween. i like cards and dice from a purely aesthetic standpoint, and collect the former! ballroom dance is my favorite type of dance, of which i actually took classes in for around three years. i am a cat person. my favorite instrument is the hurdy-gurdy, then the cello, then the bari sax. i keep a document called 'new and interesting words' full of words recently discovered and update it semi-regularly. my favorite number is '4.' i don't drink coffee and only occasionally drink tea. my favorite drinks are raspberry lemonade and (specifically) milk-made hot chocolate.

So, I'm posting in response to this from @teoxihuitl because I have vvatchword blocked for reasons I'm sure will be clear and as a result I can't reblog a chain from her blog. Tumblr honestly looking out for me because I don't want the fic featured on my blog.

Please read the reblog for screenshots concerned. Content warning: mentions of CP because I got into an argument with people defending it.

Can also confirm that vvatchword/Watch and bluishrose(?)/Rose stood by these views in a second argument later, but it was confusing because they were backstracking in "CP is bad" and somehow also doubling down in that "censorship is bad"? It went around in circles, to the point where other members were trying to take the topic away from this and ignore it. To my memory and according to my screens, most of them showed support for Watch and Rose or pretended this wasn't happening.

Also, note that Rose above compared reporting CHILD PORNOGRAPHY to the censorship of queer art. Because I did. I took note of it at the time and called her out on it.

And note that Watch is contradicting herself because CP is "despicable in every form it takes", yet before and after this she stands by her opinion of "oh but if the children are fictional it doesn't count". I'm pretty sure this was her trying to placate things and/or convince me and a friend that we, in fact, were wrong and minsunderstanding Watch and Rose.

I was done after this. In this server six months when this happened, and when it did and I stepped away from speaking with anyone there, I started to calm down and recognise things that should have been red flags from the beginning. And, yes, as @teoxihuitl has said, there was some racists comments and behaviour, things I didn't see while I was part of the "clique".

For the record I don't think that Watch or Rose are predators, and I hope to fuck they aren't, but I will say that on hearing their views on CP that I did not want to interact with them, nor did I feel safe interacting with them. I'm the same age as Watch, we are both in our thirties, and I no longer felt safe to speak with them or within their server. Rose apologised to me for them not "explaining [themselves]" and losing patience, while Watch didn't apologise at all, just telling me that there were "no hard feelings", they didn't apologise to my friend who also got involved and ended up leaving, because not to mince words the server were a bunch of dicks to my friend, mostly because of the aforementioned racism.

Then after this, I learned that her "tcest fic for a friend that i hated writing lol" was the least concerning thing about her writing history to do with the TMNT, I had a friend who wrote some for a vent fic once, I thought I could understand and overlook that. It makes me sick now, because as it turned out if I had been nosy and looked through her Ao3, I would have seen 2-3 fics shipping a 15yo teenage mutant ninja turtle with adult women. It was TMNT 2003 so I know it was with characters who were adults. I would have never decided to make friends with her if I had seen that in the first place and on learning this it suddenly made sense why Watch was so defensive, she was defending herself over her own minor/adult ships/shipfics.

If you have read this and want to do anything in response, just block vvatchword and bluishrose. Don't interact, don't harass, just block them. Trust me that neither are worth stooping to that level.

And Watch, if you're reading this, maybe don't go interacting with blog of minors who have DNIs in their bios that might apply to you?
