if you've ever wondered how to record/stream Nintendo DS gameplay and you have a Wii U collecting dust somewhere, consider Wii U Homebrew...
wiiu.hacks.guide <- do this
early on you'll be prompted to make a NAND backup (that's the Wii U's internal storage), so if you have a 32GB Wii U, you should use an SD card with more than 32 GB of free space. also be sure to:
install the SDCafiine plugin on the guide's "Finalizing Setup" page (or get it while downloading Aroma). this is a mod manager, so we'll be able to add a "pixel perfect" mod to DS Virtual Console games
download 01_sigpatches.rpx and place it in the wiiu/environments/aroma/modules/setup folder on the SD card. this allows unsigned games to launch
download + unzip NUSspli-x.xxx-Aroma.zip and move NUSspli.wuhb to the wiiu/apps folder
with the SD card in the Wii U, turn on the console and launch NUSspli from the Wii U menu. search the downloadable titles; if the DS VC game you want is available there (or here), take note of the 16-digit "title ID" associated with the game as you install it. if your game isn't there, you'll need to use something like the Ultimate Wii U Virtual Console Injector (for Windows):
first, check this Wii U VC NDS Compatibility List to make sure the game isn't incompatible (DSi enhanced games won't work, for example)
follow the UWUVCI Nintendo DS Inject Guide-- you'll be prompted for a "Wii U Common Key", which you can get from your nand backup, and a "Title Key" for whichever random base game you'll be injecting your NDS rom into (googling "wii u title keys" should point you in the right direction)
now that it's packaged in the SD card's install/ folder, you should be able to use NUSspli to install your injected DS VC game! you'll have the option of installing either to NAND or external USB storage. (supposedly there's some risk in installing to NAND, but the other option requires USB storage that's fully formatted to Nintendo's proprietary format-- no partitioning-- so just do what works best for you 😮💨)
finally, for pixel-perfect screen layouts, get the Pixel Perfect Layouts mod by HEYimHeroic (download link). the SD card layout will be sd:/wiiu/sdcafiine/XXXX/Pixel Perfect Layouts by HEYimHeroic/content/... with XXXX being replaced with the game's title ID (no dash). if you don't know an installed game's title ID, you can check by finding the game in the SaveMii homebrew app.
now the game should have some nice and crisp display options, plus you can make great use of the Wii U gamepad's touch screen for games like Trauma Center and Ouendan! (keep in mind, though, that microphone features may or may not work depending on the game?)

Ok so I decided I wanna throw my hat in the tadc au ring. It’s not gonna be super consistent update and content wise esp since hyperfixations fluctuate but I’ll try my best
Anyways without further ado lemme introduce you to
The AMAZING DIGITAL BAND
( Inspired by the dancerush au and the black parade au but also rhythm games, no straight roads and games like battle of the bands for the Wii, guitar hero, this one game I remember playing where you make your own band etc )
GENERAL PREMISE
the au follows Pomni, similar to canon she ends up in a digital world but instead of a circus it’s a music studio in some sort of city district ( think NSR ) and is suddenly recruited by Caine ( the manager for the band which I’m gonna call Digital Circus for now ) to take the spot of the former band member kaufmo who suddenly disappeared one day ( some rumors say he up and quit while others say he died/abstracted ). Digital Circus has recently been having some ( read: a lot of ) troubles due to constant arguments between the band, Kaufmo leaving and a slew of other things and Caine thinks Pomni can help restore the band to its former glory.
Pomni just wants to go back to her regular life but decides to play along in hopes that if the band can reach no 1 in the charts than she ( and the other humans ) can return back to the real world.
But there’s something darker brewing behind the scenes
CAST/ROLES
Digital Circus Band
( Note: the band is multigenre bc no one can agree on what genre to focus on. Rock has been genre that’s been the most prominent lately due to Jax’s influence. They also cover preexisting songs too )
Caine: Band Manager
Bubble: whatever the term for ppl who set up the stage for the band to preform is among some other misc roles
Pomni: drummer ( originally Kaufmos role ) and eventually starts doing some backup/secondary vocals
Jax: lead vocals and guitar. He’s the self proclaimed “ leader “ of the band
Ragatha: pianist/costume designer
Gangle: tbh I don’t think she actually performs in the band but she designs posters and album covers. Also is the primary lyricist for the band bc Jax CANNOT be trusted to write songs for the band
Zooble: DJ/Guitarist and Bassist when the situation calls for it. Also helps with the special effects
Kinger: used to be the lead vocals but after an incident he refuses to sing so now does various back up instruments. His mental state also isn’t the best either
OTHERS
( will get updated as more eps come and we get to see more npcs and stuff )
The audience are npcs ( varies between the mannequins and like actual fleshed put npcs )
Queenie and Kaufmo used to be part of Digital Circus but disappeared ( Queenies disappearance is a part of why Kinger doesn’t sing anymore)
Currently for competing bands and musicians we have Loolilou ( a solo pop artist ) and Gummigoo and his mates ( a country/bluegrass band? )
I haven’t decided on a band name for Gummigoo and co yet
Notes
- they are able to have sex ( Jax def has groupies ) but it isn’t a huge thing in this au and id consider the au mostly pg-13 with some occasional adult themes sprinkled in
- swearing is somewhat allowed? They can’t say fuck though ( it gets bleeped out ) and Caine cannot swear
I’ll add more to this later/when I have more stuff to add
#tadc au#tadc#the amazing digital circus#the amazing digital band#< tag for the au#suggestive#cw suggestive#< sorta since I mention sex#better safe than sorry#will add more tags later

Nintendo Direct
Nintendo Switch 2 looks like a very minor upgrade and most of the features should have just been on the original to begin with and there's no good reason they weren't
Switch 2 editions would be a great opportunity to release Yo-Kai Watch 4 in the west but we know that's never going to happen
Pokémon on the Switch can barely manage 12 FPS, I don't see what buying an upgrade pack for the Switch 2 will do for it
Mario sucks get over it
Oh wow more Zelda games whoopty fucking doo die already
Party games, party games, party games, yawn
Oh look another classic Pokémon game that you have to pay a subscription for, with no Bank or HOME compatibility, rendering it completely pointless
Oh sure yeah you can transfer all your data from Switch to Switch 2 but somehow I can't back up my Pokémon saves, sure, that's gonna work perfectly (why am I paying for Cloud backups again?)
Mouse Joycons. Sure. Let me just summon flat surfaces from out my ass.
Stupid
Stupid
Stupid
What kind of fucking idiot is paying up and over $80 for a video game?! Hopefully, hardly anyone, this thing better flop harder than the Wii U
So stupid

oh no. I’m making a real post
this is what i would call.. a rant. Its main point is about laptops and shit being functional after more than 3 years before I conclude it by telling you to backup your shit.
it’s actually part 1 of 2 because I’m a fucking NERD
essentially, TL;DR the state of laptops and anti-repair sucks and i hate it, technological parts will fail eventually, and it should be easy for the consumer to fix the shit they bought. backup your shit bc things can fail at any moment.
i love computers. i love technology! I love seeing technology grow and people make bigger better things that are cool! yes I do! hell, even ai is interesting! ai art would be objectively fucking fascinating to see a machine learn how to mimic a human action EXCEPT FOR THE MINOR CAVEAT THAT WE, AS HUMANS, HAVE NO QUALMS ABOUT STEALING! THAT’S THE ISSUE! and also some other stuff probably but that is SO NOT THE POINT
now that I’ve successfully avoided an ai tangent, let’s move on to what this post IS about
What in the actual FUCK are modern laptops. i don’t WANT a thin, ultra-flimsy piece of shit that is designed to break or be obsolete in less than 10 years
i have a laptop! From what, 2010? 2011? it needs probably more RAM and to be upgraded from windows 7 to 10. is it still usable, today, in 2024 for basic shit: ABSOLUTELY. It has problems, sure, but those are SOLVABLE PROBLEMS. I CAN REPAIR THIS FUCKING LAPTOP. YOU HEAR THAT? I CAN REPAIR IT. probably through finding replacement parts n shit but NOT THE POINT.
it probably has some other stuff that I can fix too! It probably needs basic maintenance because it’s a laptop and it’s never been opened or anything except for the time i went to replug-in the keyboard and maybe.. fucked it up worse. but hey, i tried and uh, probably should’ve done a bit more, but the keyboard was borderline unusable before anyway so if the tried and true unplug and plug back in didn’t work, it was already capital F Fucked. (hp pavilion g6)
oh, and general note: check your fucking batteries. consistently. you do not want to clean a Wii remote that’s had crusty ass AA batteries in it. if it is bigger than it used to be, or otherwise bulging, yes that is bad. the more you know.
2014 or 2015: meet the HP stream 13!
it was probably below average for its time. it sports 2 GB of RAM and I’ve made this fucker bluescreen thrice because of it. its a budget laptop. you want something that can do.. basic shit? perfect. it can do your taxes!
it cannot perfectly display a Google doc over 30 pages though with other things running! it will break shit. can’t blame it though, it’s trying its best. it’s also still running windows 8.1, though, not sure how much this affects it. no i will not be researching it for a tumblr post.
is it still usable: absolutely did you not fucking read. my mom uses it for her taxes! it’s hot pink, how snazzy.
my dad has a computer that’s newer with what’s that… 4 GB of RAM? It can with windows 10 but now has windows 11! and… oh. what’s that? I’m having the same amount of memory issues as A LAPTOP RUNNING WINDOWS 8.1 WITH HALF THE RAM. DID YOU HEAR THAT? HUH? actually i think the issues are WORSE but its not mine so i will not be knowing for certain. but it was at least on par or worse. Someone online told me that 4 GB is not enough for windows 11. i do not completely trust a stranger i met once but.. i can’t see anything in task manager that’s just hogging resources (other than antimalware from windows or whatever the fuck it’s called)
the point of that is: WHAT THE FUCK.
is it usable: yes. it can do work stuff. it can do your taxes. it’s not a snazzy hot pink though.
if you got to this point, I love you.
anyway.
for the record, I think that things should be easily repairable by the person who bought it. replacement parts should be provided and support should be offered for at least 5 years. it should not be more effective for me to buy a new laptop than to upgrade or fix the one i already have. not that I’m saying it’s the case (I’ve yet to do repairs OR upgrades)
but that is a problem. buying aftermarket and cloned versions that you have no real clue the quality of should not be something the consumer has to do to keep the thing working.
technical parts fail all the time. Files can corrupt, things can stop working. back up your shit and NEVER EVER rely on a perfectly working device to stay perfectly working forever. eventually, it will become obsolete. planned or no, eventually, it will have been made for a period of the past and technology advances all the time. games get bigger and beefier, operating systems give you software you didn’t ask for.
and i didn’t even talk about ports or CD drives or- fucking other shit.
#This is a long ass rant. i don’t want to know how long#technology#computers#specifically laptops in this case#im not so sure how many of these problems translate to PCs that aren’t laptops.#next time i talk about windows and design#i think that’s the next rant
