Ah, so 'Reflections' is a piece that will involve Morgayne thinking about a lot of things - her relationship with Orin and her Father, and later her connection with Gortash when she goes to visit him. Also was thinking about putting in her thoughts about his chronic pain. And in the final section of it, they have a nice, uh, chat in front of a mirror.

At the moment, there is only an outline, and a few disjointed collections of sentences on a planning document at the moment, like this:

She comes out of her reverie, only to find him looking right back at her, his head tilted, brows furrowed in silent enquiry as he drums gauntleted fingers on the arm of his chair. "You are staring, my dear" he says, with a hint of a smile. She sits up straighter, and lifts her chin in the air a little as she thinks of a retort. "How else I am supposed to admire you, Enver?" He barks a laugh, then after a moment returns to his papers as she picks up her book again.

The Earths Beyond Series

The Earths Beyond Series was a project that I started years ago while waiting on feedback for an earlier draft of Ink of Destruction. The series was planned to be a hard (or realistic) sci-fi space opera set a few centuries in the future. It followed a teenage girl named Mallory, who while interning for her father, discovered a hidden file detailing the discovery and colonization of some dozen planets a few centuries back who were currently at war with one another. This information having been kept a secret from the public by the government to prevent disruption. Mallory and a group of friends would then (after lots of thought) hijack a ship to go explore this conflict, and the series would center around their eventual entanglement in this war, as they tried to spread the word and get aid. The Earths Beyond was also planned to be written non-linearly, and gradually include the perspectives of other characters in Mallory’s crew and their enemies.

I only got part way into the planning stage of this project, and once getting back to IOD, I kinda forgot it ever existed lol. I still have the files saved though. I might come back to it someday—or take parts from what I had planned and use them elsewhere—but who knows. I do think 16 year-old Me came up with an interesting concept though.

Yay! Okay this one, I'm afraid, is a lot of emotional damage.

It's a bit of the backstory of my non-Tav OC Josephine (Josie), a Sorlock who exists about 100 yrs or so after the events of the game, and actually ends up as Raphael's chamberlain. It mostly focuses on her childhood, and up to her mid-20s.

Here's an excerpt:

There’s a strange expression on father’s face as he turns to her and says “Take your sister and go pick some flowers from the garden for your mother, eh? Maybe arrange them nicely when you’re done.” She hesitates, for she knows instinctively what this means. What he is trying to do. “Go on now, Josie.” His smile doesn’t reach his eyes. She softly nods, a wordless agreement passing between them. “Come on Tess, let’s go.” She grasps the younger girl’s hand and directs her towards the door, then down the stairs and eventually out into the garden. They spend some time gathering the prettiest blooms they can find—purple delphiniums, violets and daisies, her favourites—and then choose a vase from the shed. It takes a little time to find one that isn't cracked, and a little longer still to arrange their floral haul into a way that pleases Tess' exacting standards. By the time they return to the house, Mother is gone. The small funeral is held a few days later. After the ceremony, the girls are left alone by the graveside, and Tess laments the apparent plainness of their mother’s final resting place compared to that of a richer family. “Bones are bones, Tess, for the rich and the poor alike.” Josie chides. “We’re all the same underneath when it comes down to it.” Her sister wrinkles her nose in a half-hearted protest, and idly etches a mark into the loose earth with the toe of her boot. “Let’s go find father” she says suddenly, turning and heading for the house without waiting for a reply. Josephine lingers by the modest grave a moment longer, the dry dead leaves swirling with the wind around her feet, in a mirror to her thoughts. Autumn’s gifts have come early this year. “We all turn to dust, in the end” she mutters, the breeze stealing the words and spiriting them away. They are 38, 14 and 10, and they are alone.
