a small taste of a chapter to come, somewhere in the future (in my fic A Trinity of Spies), inspired by this picture

Shepard let the whistling tune end just as he stopped before her. “Vhenan,” he whispered as his expression softened. Sound in the rotunda travelled up to the top level if they weren’t careful. “You have my sincerest thanks for such a melodious interruption.” “Anytime,” she whispered. His hands moved to cup her cheeks as he gently placed his lips on hers. Melting into the kiss, she pulled him into the alcove and let her hands wander down his back, all the way to just beneath his behind. With one swift move, she lifted him and pushed him against the wall. A surprised sound left his throat, and Shepard chuckled against his lips before deepening the kiss. After a long while, they slowed with their foreheads resting against each other. “Think you can keep quiet while—” Someone cleared their throat from beside them inside the rotunda, and Shepard kept a firm hold of Solas’ thighs. He let his head drop back against the wall and closed his eyes with obvious annoyance at being interrupted. Shepard turned her head to the side and glared. “You dare interrupt us, Tethras?” “Yeah, so…” His eyes twinkled with glee, and his mouth seemed stuck in a grin. “Can I use that position in my next book? The visual alone… might just put that on the cover.” “You do not have our permission, master Tethras. For anything.” “Awh, come on now, Chuckles. The readers are gonna go nuts over it. Heck, I’m going nuts over it. Can you imagine…” “No. Leave,” Shepard bit out. “Varric!” Shepard sighed and let Solas glide down as Dorian shouted down from the second floor. “What position? Do tell… Wait, I’m coming down.” Varric laughed loudly and shouted upwards. “Oh, Sparkles, you are not gonna believe this one.” Solas shared a look with Shepard and gestured towards the door. She nodded and linked her arm in his as they went out on the ramparts. “The entirety of the castle will know within the hour with those two.” “Five minutes, more like.”
