remember when i said i had this one dr wof au

yeah i revamped it now. changed a bit of stuff in the au from....4 years ago in 2021. woaha

also ralsei more prone to accidentally just saying prophecies now moreso specifically later in the the 4th dw moonwatcher style. but now im stuck between the floating window pane thingies saying it and ralsei just randomly being zapped with a prophecy to say in the specific moment. maybe a pane could be a trigger idk

The first time Gortash meets the Chosen one of Bhaal, he asks for their name.

No one calls them by their name in their temple, instead sticking to “Chosen” or “Herald.” The Chosen of Bhaal looks at him like he said something funny and responds.

“Pick one.”

So Gortash does. And thus begins a pattern.

Are they going on a stealth mission and need an alter ego? Gortash pick a name.

What should Gortash’s guards call them when they visit through the front entrance? “Pick a name , Enver, it’s not like I go through the front door anyway.”

What name should he give to a comrade who could use an assassin on hire? “Think of something clever, you always do.”

It’s not that the Chosen of Bhaal doesn’t have a name, he learns. They did once. But then their father called them to his service and “a surgeon doesn’t name their knife” and well, a steady name seemed kind of pointless. Titles worked just fine and well, an assassin benefits from having quite a few alter egos. Until Gortash, they really didn’t talk to anyone enough outside the Temple for a name to even be needed.

It’s a fucked up dynamic, really. Gortash can have the illusion of control over this Bhalspawn with the names , but its control that’s given freely. They are something he wants to control but never truly can. He is something they should destroy but don’t desire to.

Much later, the Former Chosen of Bhaal walks into Gortash’s coronation. He grins, and asks them “what name should I call you this time friend?”

When they respond with an actual name, he almost can’t hide his surprise.

I'm very sad that I can't find a gifset for the charming Support the Girls (2018), because the film captures a very distinct feeling that I feel a lot, but rarely see in fiction---namely, that you are going to have to make choices, over and over again, about what to do, how to react, how to interact with the various other people you share the world with (who are themselves making choices, colliding messily with yours) and afterwards, there will be no satisfying catharsis. No angel is going to come down on a cloud of light and the sound of trumpets, and inform you, Yes, my child, you were right the whole time---actually it was your boss being a dick. If we get gold stars for moving through the world gracefully and open-heartedly, with kindness, no one is showing us the report card. So your boss abandons you and your husband leaves and your abused colleague who you stuck your neck out for goes back to her shitty boyfriend; then you sit in a narrow hallway that smells like disinfectant and apply for another job with a more-or-less crappy employer, and unfortunately that's it. That's all there is.

Inspiration for this piece comes from reading about animals in the aftermath of forest fires (y'know, something light). The lack of foliage after a fire can give advantages to birds of prey, such as the Spotted Owl, making it easier for them to spot and kill prey. But in turn, the lack of cover puts them at greater risk of being hunted by bigger, opportunistic predators such as the Goshawk.

To try and add a bit more whimsy or fantasy to the piece, the Goshawk is wearing an antique flint fire starter.

I like that his hc human name his Gabriel bc he can twin with Gilbert, like they're G² lol.

Also like he probably has a hard time walking bc those flames definitely didn't do his legs any good, so I like the hc that he sometimes uses a wheelchair/crutches when it gets too difficult for him to walk.

Ig because of his previous status he doesn't go insane like normal humans do after prolonged exposure to the nations he tolerates, so he's kept his immortality despite not being a personification of any group. Tho he could still get hurt and actually die if he gets a fatal wound so he's just semi-immortal.

genuinely though i love that the critique that gets lobbed at tng sometimes is that it's boring because the characters sit and think and talk and many of the episodes resolve with very few explosions, and yes! that's the point!!!

like the whole ethos of tng was "space (and everyone in it) is not a threat once you understand it" and sometimes you have to get quiet about it for a minute or have a productive group discussion or do some pontificating to reach that moment of understanding and communication, but at the end we warp away having made a friend or gained a greater understanding of the complexity of the universe and maybe it was a little bit silly or a character learned how to be a better version of themself along the way and that's why i love it!!
