I'd love to hear about the Shmi au!!

Rubs hands. Deep breath. My dear @Kanerallels. You are lovely to ask.

So for reasons known only to my muses, Shmi Skywalker walked into my head during Whumptober and decided she was adopting Firmus. Not officially, but as close as one can get.

I wrote two different prompts featuring the two of them in these roles and golly, how I loved giving our dear Admiral some actual mothering. I've done a little of that with Mrs. Lunders and Jeryyshk in various one shots within Empire Reimagined, but this was more long term. Shmi, quite like her son, looks at something and says 'MINE'. But with less menace.

Anyway. I decided quite quickly that I needed a full story of how Firmus and Shmi met. How he saved her from slavers and then how their lives intertwined through the Empire and the events of the OT. So the first half of the story will be very much focused on them.

The second half---when more Skywalkers suddenly show up---well. Things get intense in the ol' galaxy. ;D Plots and who knows what about whom and all that sort of thing have been fun to think through. And in all of it, we now have Shmi as a secret weapon of sorts. So.

I'm very stoked to begin writing it once I've finished one of my current published works.

Master of Battles

Whoo-hoo!

I finished, in the wee hours of the morning (12:40am, in fact), the fifth book in the projected six-book series, Master of Battles. It seems like a good way to end the year!

I first started the series in December of 2019, and sailed through the first novel in a record eight months. (Covid may have helped.) But finishing book five on the last day of 2024 works out to about one book a year. The first book is only c. 101K, but the rest are all around 110K. Part of why what I originally envisioned as 3-4 books turned into 6 is the dropping wordcounts in publishing. 110K is now about the upper end of what publishers will accept.

No, Master of Battles doesn't involve Alexander. In fact, it's an anti-conquest epic fantasy. "When the Master of Battles becomes the Mother Peace, their world is remade."

Why am I not continuing Alexander? Well, Riptide isn't interested in the full series--they're a queer Romance publisher--and it took me a long-ass time just to sell Dancing with the Lion (which was cut in half). I'm loathe to work on novels that will take a decade (or more) to sell. Again. I anticipate that Master of Battles will market easier. If it does well enough, I may then be able to find a home for Alexander.

Because it's not sold yet, I'm unsure if the series title will change. And I may publish it under a pen name. (That's not uncommon when crossing genres.) So no, I have no timeline at all. But I've written (or plotted out) the entire thing in advance because I like my world-building facts (and plot threads) to line up.

The Final Ballad from the Clouds - Our pride and joy, a multi-perspective (currently about 11 unique perspectives) horror fiction book (with hints of romance and comedy) about a town in Oregon being haunted by a mysterious smoke being known as “The Beast”, “Fixer”, or even “PENIS.” you can thank Wyatt for coming up with that last name. Includes a lesbian couple, aroace schizophrenic dude with religious trauma, shadowy gay dude, a skibidi toilet kid in a 25 year old man’s body, the literal afterlife, EW WOKENESS, regina george, totally gay but doesnt know yet, archaeologist, monkey, angry gay, old woman, one of our alters, and more religious trauma! and death. so much death.

The Beings of Odd - wdym a sibling rivalry is destroying the world??, a book about a world plagued by monsters known as “Beings”, and the main character, Dennis Porter, is on a mission to document all of them, save Liverstown, and maybe also the whole world. The Starless Sky - yuh yoh yaggy what happened to the stars, a Wings of Fire fan book about a group of dragons with their ups and downs joining together to get the stars back from a vengeful animus hybrid. The Magnus Archives : The New Crown - Angst… but cover it in eyes, a TMA alternate universe with the regular plot lines as season 1-4… except season 5, in season 5 the eyepocalypse is replaced with a ritual called “The Shattered Sky”, where everyone must go to one island, no matter how long it takes them, and fight to death. Immortals are not forced to participate.
