The room is silent, save for the slightly asynchronous ticking of clocks. Then, finally:

"... Can I help?"

"You already have." She takes another sip of wine. The clocks tick on.

"You know that's not what I mean."

Clearly it's not.

"I don't think that you can. The damage is done. Until she's willing to listen I just have to wait this out. Maybe once the scandal dies down we can try again."

Upstairs, there's a shriek of laughter. They should all be asleep. She sets the wine glass onto the table, preparing for yet another task to deal with.

"I'm here, Lottie. I just want you to know that." He pauses. "That's what family's for."

His hand hovers just above her wrist before it makes its slow retreat. A moment later, she understands.

"Thank you for that."

She hugs him before she goes, a silent acknowledgement. Of course he'll never leave her in the literal dark. Not in the way they all had so long ago. Only the metaphorical. The hurt is drowned before it can gain a foothold. She doesn't need it here. Forgiveness. Before she exits the room she turns back to him.

"Thank you, really. But Robin--no more lies. Please."

His fingers dig deeper into the cushion but he does not look away.

"No more lies," he agrees.

She knows he wants to mean it.

i was going to make a smaller post abt it. a simple shitpost. but it ended up being longer. about 9 pages or the sort in total. i tried to have it out during the literal date for it but most likely it will be out in the next hopefully at most 30 hours ... .. answering this now so you dont think im ignoring it. the actual finished result be posted in a seperate one. as you can see. dialog/planning plus four pages are done art wise already though!!

okay. i think perhaps the terrible, terrible moment has arrived. i need to find a new photo editing program

photoshop elements 8, my beloved dedicated photoshop elements 8 from the free software disc that came with my wacom bamboo tablet in 2012, is no longer opening certain types of gif files

it's possible it was never capable of opening these gifs idk, it's specifically gifs with a lot of frames that aren't opening, like the painting gifs from chicory a colourful tale, or the plot point gif from homestuck beyond canon

there is also the fact that a very long time ago i started having issues with the scroll bars not moving properly and needing to use specific shortcuts to scroll around. so the writing's been on the wall for a while, this is a sixteen-year-old program that was bound to stop working eventually and the time has come for me to finally grit my teeth and find something new

please if anyone has any recommendations for photo editing programs i would appreciate it

relevant information:

i already know about gimp, paint.net, pixlr, and photopea. i am looking for something more fully-featured and not browser-based (needs to be an application that can be downloaded, installed on my computer, and used offline)

i'm willing to pay some for something good but only a one-time fee for full ownership of a program i refuse to engage with subscription services

also down for some yo ho ho if anyone has resources for that

i need something that has both strong photo editing tools and illustration tools because i use both of those (although moreso the photo editing tools)

needs to be able to open large gifs with lots of frames, as well as save to gif format with robust options

needs a transform tool that can turn anti-aliasing on and off freely. it can't be turned off in pse8 and that has been annoying for editing pixel art, which i need to do a lot for making homestuck upd8 video thumbnails

needs to be able to flip/rotate/etc. specific layers without having to do that to the entire image. pse8 can only do flips like that with the entire image, i've been cutting layers into a new document flipping them and repasting them back into the original document to get around it which is very annoying

need to be able to see the whole image when using the liquefy tool, not just the layer i'm working on. pse8 will pull the single layer you're working on into an isolated popout window with a white background to use the liquefy tool so you can't see whether it's proportionally correct to the rest of the image

Against all odds, we have survived. We're taking a university course now, because the government will pay us for it and we do need the money, but it has unfortunately been eroding at our sanity somewhat, and we are learning nothing that we don't already know. We are, however, getting money.

We have somewhat of a backlog on Discord at the moment, as it doesn't have a daily upload limit and also it's easier to stick things on while we are being told things that we already know by people who are phrasing in in ways we find significantly misleading or incorrect (note: we don't use apps for things the vast majority of the time and if we access Tumblr via browser it immediately fucks up our formatting on PC, which can last several months). We will, hopefully, be posting these soon, but all is dependant on if we can actually scare up the time between courses to conglomerate that and fix any formatting errors in thoughts and such.

If that will happen any time soon... good question! Every time that our work practicum teacher opens her mouth, we take points of physical damage, and we don't think she understands the fact that getting back after we walk to a place also involves walking. We've had a lot going on for a while now and very little of it has been good. We're on new meds, and if the gods prove merciful, we won't have to tolerate this particular clown show past March. If there is no mercy to be found, however, we might have to keep doing this until June, in which case you can probably expect the quality of this to take a sharp downturn as the short time we have already spent in this program is already having immediate and catastrophic effects on our mental health.

We do not recommend going to university in any circumstances, but we are unfortunately aware that it may be necessary to get such things as a fancy piece of paper saying you are employable. Additionally, we would tell you to calibrate your expectations for anyone with a degree lower, but apparently what we consider the basic level of knowledge you should know before saying anything on any topic is everyone else's "bachelor degree and a bit", so our estimations on what people think is a high degree of knowledge to have are probably also off.

That means that those who are not very good at something tend to be overly confident, while those who have made an effort tend to underestimate their abilities. Poor students also have no trouble finding a question to write about: they neither lack opinions nor the confidence that they have already thought them through. They also won’t have trouble finding confirming evidence in the literature as they usually lack both interest and skill to detect and think through disconfirming facts and arguments.
