i have this one coworker who years ago i accidentally called phil instead of his actual name. which is not phil

i don’t know where it came from because i don’t think he looks like a phil, and i haven’t known a phil since high school, and i think he actually does look like a <his name>

but now every time i go to say his name, i almost say phil, and i’ve known him for like 5 years at this point and i’m now working very closely with him

but like in a way where his name comes up constantly while talking to other people while he isn’t present

so it’s a constant struggle

i'm always a bit unsettled by disdain for intellectual or creative labor in leftist spaces. there's this commonly held belief that academics are a bunch of rich old white men, rather than a wide variety of people who are barely getting by. most lecturers in universities are adjuncts living paycheck to paycheck. authors make very little money as a general rule. most researchers are overworked and underpaid. and yet there's still this idea that academics are overcompensated to sit around and smoke cigars together while making shit up

The greatest injustice ever faced is that I almost certainly started the still thriving "clown husbandry" tag on here, but any discussion about it (from a know your meme page to a youtube video with 500k views) says it's a joke of "unknown origin" or credited to this post, likely bouncing off of mine (which was actively circulating at the time with like 30k notes):

This is a tragedy for many reasons, most of all because it wasn't just an offhand joke but actually a direct response to some of the funniest online hate I ever got:
