Hallo! I was wondering, how did you learn to animate? What interested you in it? What do you use? Even if you don't have the attention span to do it often, I think it's really cool that you can.

I learned from YT animation tutorials. There's tons you can learn from.

I use Clip Studio Paint currently (The version that's better suited for animation I forget which one) and the one I made the Shadow and Dark animation with, but also use Adobe animate (Great for symbols/puppet stuff which I love)

Fire Alpaca used to be the one I used for the videos shown below and that was before they added more features from what I can tell?

Honestly you can animate with anything I just love having a real time audio timeline in Adobe and Clip.

I'm that weirdo who made these, so I've been at it for awhile now. I used to have the patience for longer stuff but my brain is fried now adays.

Learning how to Key Frame efficiently + Drawing good thumbnails/story boards to work off of would be my honest advice for beginners that NO ONE seems to think to mention.

Keyframe advice: ONLY. DRAW. WHAT. IS. IMPORTANT.

You can add in-betweens later don't just GO FOR IT. Keyframe the movement out FIRST THEN add in-betweens. Only major poses to get the movement across you can fill in the gaps later. This seems fucking obvious but uhhhhh. UHHHH. COMMON KNOWLEDGE IS ONLY COMMON IF IT'S MENTIONED TO HELL AND BACK???

Clean readable thumbnails help so much. I have a tendency to just draw scribbles...Don't do that. Lmfao. Moral is low as shit when you can't tell wtf you drew through or are trying to convey with the chicken scratch.

When you're an animator by yourself you are the Storyboarder, the Clean up artist, line artist and effects artist.

DO EM ALL WELL OR THE ANIMATION WILL SUFFER. 😭

This might be a bit of a stretch, but dare I say he has a nickname reserved just for you?? For example, sometimes he calls himself weno (which is stinking cute if you ask me) and last time I checked, no other person has called him that (besides his family most likely). Maybe that's a nickname only you can call him, as he might get weirded out/confused if the members call him that. (They would most likely tease him after discovering this very juicy information)

So for the past week or so Shout! Factory's been running concurrent marathon streams of, like, a sizable number of Gerry Anderson shows. I caught most of Thunderbirds, then got overwhelmed by Shout starting like 5 more Anderson series AT THE SAME TIME (weird choice, what were they thinking tbh) so I kinda ignored the other streams until today--the thumbnail for Terrahawks looked so unhinged I had to see wtf was going on

and uh I think I'm hooked now. But, like, specifically for Kate Kestral's pop star storyline. XD

Main male lead is boring killjoy and unlikable as fuck, and a total dick to his spherical robot creations. I'm completely not invested with his ongoing beef with the alien android halloween witch villainess Zelda, tho she is a baffling and hilarious villain.

The Zeroid bots are perfect, chaotic little bastards and I adore them. No notes.

Other three humans in the Terrahawk group aren't terribly notable.

But then there's Captain Kate Kestral, who's kinda like Jem if Jerrica was a space pilot action girl. She's fantastic and her songs are really fun, but what really caught my attention was this specific song that's a callback to Thunderbirds.

It gave me that sudden flash of "Aw crap, I'm emotionally invested in this goofy puppet universe now huh" XD I'm not immune to callbacks I guess.

my Youtube algorithm is acting weird all of a sudden?

I know that if you watch anything political - even if it's the most far left thing possible - YouTube will try pushing right-wing stuff 'cause it doesn't sub-categorize politics like it should. But my YouTube for years has been good at not doing that. Like, for a long time, it'd be rare to see conservative videos in my sidebar. The only exception was ads (even tho I specifically curated my Google ads and marked "politics" as a topic I DID NOT wanna see). I would binge a new commentary channel and the only other channel recommendations I'd get were people actually like them, not the opposite end of the political aisle.

All of a sudden, the last few days, I'm seeing some channels popping up in my recommended that are just... I have no idea why YouTube is bringing them up with me. A majority have been conservative to conservative-leaning, although a few for some reason have been kids content/kids educational and one in a language I don't speak and have never watched YouTube videos in that language?

I have scrolled my YouTube history to see wtf could have triggered all this and getting nothing obvious. I've gone quite awhile not watching any political video essays (got into other things + needed to take a mental break) and recently watched a few, which may have been misinterpreted by the algorithm? Like maybe before it never went outta whack 'cause I was consistent in what specifically I was watching, but suddenly accidentally "detoxing" the algorithm and going back might've made it forget what my politics are? Doesn't explain the non-political anomalies tho.

The only significant change to my account's habits is that I've been letting my mom watch paranormal channels through it (since sometimes videos get restricted meaning you can't watch without an account). That's caused my recommended to get flooded with the channels she's watched and stuff similar, but I don't particularly mind that. I've watched paranormal content myself (Wendigoon, Buzzfeed Unsolved, Night Mind) but my mom's going for a completely different genre (the ghost hunters with the all-caps titles and shocked faces in the thumbnails); I wouldn't watch it myself but I wouldn't kick her off over it. But combing through my history, she hasn't touched anything but the paranormal stuff, so she shouldn't be the cause for the anomalies. Can't be a third party who's gotten into my account either, otherwise it would show up - and if they tried deleting their marks on the history to cover their tracks, well that would also delete that data for the algorithm to use.

So like I'm left wondering wtf is going on all of a sudden? I guess it's still not completely out of the question that somehow the paranormal content is making YouTube think "ah then these conservative commentary / right-wing memers will also be of interest!". I'm also wondering if maybe there's some quiet changes being made that this is a symptom of, which is why I'm putting this out there to see if anyone else is noticing anything unusual suddenly happening to their algorithm with no clear trigger for it. I've tried googling, but I get stuff from a few years ago, and answers that don't seem to fit the situation.

Yeah that's something I'm sure most (if not all) people struggle with. I got back into drawing as a hobby like 3 months ago and let me tell you. It's amazing. I feel so fucking happy because of it and it gives me something to look forward to and work on instead of doomscroling and then blaming myself for wasting so much time.

For me one of the big blocks is, well, drawing in a sketchbook. There's this belief that they're supposed to be beautiful and full of amazing art, but that's such bullshit. Those are called art books. Sketchbooks are for sketches. For the ideas, the quick thumbnails, doodles, mistakes and lots of trials and errors. You might want to start drawing in a random notebook (or loose paper) instead of your sketchbook. For me it really takes the pressure off and I dont focus on making everything perfect anymore. Just choose some notebook, clean paper, dotted, ruled or grid. Whatever you like. You can decorate it a bit (but not too much/ in a way that will make you intimidated to use it!!) And just let loose. Starting is a hard part to get through, but one you finally do it, it will get easier.

And if you mess up, dont rip away the page or scribble on it. Just go to the next one and start over (I personally add little notes like 'not really what I was looking for :/' or 'kinda shit but whatever', so that whoever sees those can read the notes and think "oh okay, guess it wasn't his best work")(even tho literally no one sees those sketches💀 but whatever, it makes me feel better and more comfortable)

There are also some very important things you have to remember. And it goes for a lot of other things too! Not only drawing (or writing).

1. You're most likely criticizing yourself too harshly (belive me. That 'shaky' line is fine. And you don't have to erase and redraw the whole thing. It might be a good idea to just cover it up with some paint (but make sure it's still at least partly see through)(if you're drawing traditionally) or just change the colour of the sketch and lover the opacity of the layer (if you're doing it digitally) and start drawing over it! (on a different layer ofc)

2. Don't think about what others think about your work. Don't think 'but what if they won't like it?' Let them. The most important thing is that you had fun making it and that you're happy with what you did.

And definitely don't compare yourself too much to other people's works. We live in a time where it's so effortless to see what others and doing that we get overwhelmed with content, works and ideas of other people. It's easy to loose yourself in all of that.

3. You might want to try out other media/materials if you're stuck in one place. (Change is difficult! But can be nice) It can be very refreshing to draw your idea using different materials (even if you might not feel super confident in them)

4. I beg you. Dont push yourself too much. Take breaks. (Seriously) Once you begin something you get used to the way it looks and it's so easy to notice all the little mistakes (that might not even actually be there) (I once spend like an hour trying to draw a shape only to look at it the next day and think "wtf was I on last night? It's literally fine and how I wanted it to look." XD)

And the last one, that gives me a lot of motivation :)

5. There's always someone that wants to see your work.

No matter how shit you might think it is. No matter how much better it looked inside your head. There is someone that will look at what you made and it will cause them so much joy. Its honestly fantastic. The times I made smth that I wasn't super happy with but decited to still post it/ show it to someone and they loved it is bizarre to me. There will be someone that will see your work and think "i wish i could draw/write/whatever like that." All while you were looking at someone else's work and thinking the same thing.

STAY MOTIVATED AND KEEP GOING!! I'm sure you'll get out of the pain that's an art block and will make so many things you'll like
