one thing about cahir is that he does not run away from shit. even when he really really should. he is brave and noble to the point of idiocy. isengrim was like ok i am taking you back to nilfgaard to probably be executed for treason and cahir was like “ok” and didn’t even fight back and let them tie him up and put him in a box because he knew he fucked up again and that was the consequence. i’m not calling him a bootlicker because he literally rebels against mentioned evil empire and fights them on the battlefield, but there is something funny about him entirely accepting evil and unfair authority even when it means his demise. he loses the deal he’s made with emhyr like “ok. you can break me on the wheel now. because i failed.” it wouldn’t be honorable to chicken out of his fate, so he won’t run. because he doesn’t want to. it’s all about honor with this guy. i mean regis barely asks milva who is this man, and cahir interjects to straight up tells regis his entire full name. even though that’s sensitive information and he is literally on the imperial wanted list at the moment. like no one fucking asked dude. cahir is literally the kind of guy to respond to a lukewarm online comment with his full name and address (which btw is in vicovaro). because he wears his honor and his name like a badge. he could have stfu as geralt accused and berated him, but instead he defends his honor by fistfighting a witcher (an injured and disabled witcher, but still a witcher who he has witnessed fight and kill coldly and calmly with superhuman agility and speed). and finally, we all know how he met bonhart. like no fuck you it’s my destiny to die by your blade. cahir was just comfortable with speedrunning death. i love how fascinating he is as this deconstruction of chivalry and knightly masculinity.

because sapkowski also tangles with this idea of “the knight” in the hussite trilogy and he also talks about it in historia i fantastyka and świat króla artura (a little bit) about how historical knights were essentially bandits sanctioned by law, and the romance and chivalry was a literary invention, and cahir gets to do both, because he’s just combining these elements of the modern, real world and fairytale. but unlike everyone else, who goes from fairytale to real—although cahir is set up as the black knight and this Evil Guy Hunting Innocent Princess, which is very fairytale—cahir goes from real to fairytale, because the invasion of cintra is so very real, and cahir’s journey is to leave behind this reality of violent knighthood, to become a kind of virtuous literary knight instead.

because i love how his persistance and determination in his pursuit of ciri, which is initially set up as evil and villainous, becomes part of his honor. because it’s his persistance to follow her down as he was tasked with as the black knight, which transforms into the noble pursuit of her as in a rescue as a truely knightly endeavor. which is just as powerful and insane as the darksided version of it. geralt tells him to fuck off multiple times and he even gets jumped and he still pursues geralt’s company because the only thing that matters is to find ciri. and i feel like he had even more persistence when seeking her for good, rather than when he was working for evil. maybe because this time it was personal and not a punchclock motivation. and that noble calling to find ciri held out even when geralt’s fatherly devotion lost hope. in tower of the swallow, he wouldn’t believe in her death even when he sensed it as much as geralt did. because that’s the same overconfident youth we saw in blood of elves, smirking when emhyr discussed this second chance with him. like no i don’t care what anyone says, even my own premonitions or the emperor i serve. we are gonna find this fucking girl—

like just really a masterclass in how to take a character from villain to hero, keeping his same motivations and obsessions and self-image, and at the same time make it relevant thematically with the whole story, setting, and historical and literary connections that have already been established.

I’m so tired of wlw background ships in mlm fandoms.

mlm shippers almost never develop wlw ships to the degree that the audience feels invested in them. The conflict and character development and love story rely on tropes rather than actual narratives, yet fandoms act like they’re doing wlws a favour by shoehorning in this shitty “representation” when it’s just golden retriever x black cat over and over and over again in different fonts.

To be clear I don’t blame anyone for not having big wlw ships, because most major media out there do not have two fully fledged female characters you can ship together. If you want to write mlm ships, good for you! If you want a lazy wlw ship in the background, that’s fine! But don’t act as if the fandom actually cares about them, or that anyone did the legwork to make them characters that you can care about. Most of these female characters are never properly developed in the canon source material, and they’re almost never properly developed in the fanon material either. You can always tell by how these women are like, one archetype + gay (sporty gay, feisty gay, slutty gay etc, like some kind of gay Spice Girls). Yet fandoms just love to act like these background wlws mean so much & have the best love stories & everyone just should ship them. It’s all so performative.

wlws are not an aesthetic. wlws are not 2D happy couples to round out your queer utopia, a queer utopia that somehow still manages to foreground men. Women are always treated as 2D characters in narratives, except now there’s a subgenre where these 2D women are gay. Groundbreaking.

i wonder if there was ever a chance of shen jiu and liu qingge geting along. like, did liu qingge think sj was like a pampered master? but there are clear differences between people who were born to wealth and who got it later (at least i think so), so shouldn't he be able to tell the difference? and besides that, i don't think that besides his appearance, sj got many "young mastery" things going on

that is to say, i wish that there was ever a chance of seeing them interact more. sj might be intentionally awful but lqg just unknowingly dropped bomb after another (like when they were choosing the desciples. or maybe knowingly but he was not aware of the real efect he had i guess)

i'm trying to think about it and i don't think they could get along without like reliable third party. sj would never admit it if he had non hateful feeling towards lqg (i doubt he would like recognize them. i think the real link sj and sy had was the amout of delusion and self gaslighting they were able to subject themselves to) and lqg seems like he would just not care if it was a person he disliked (sj in question)

but that dislike is grounded on misunderstaning and lack of like, heart to heart? (writing that with them in question made me cringe. one tries to not have a heart and the other is very particular who he shows the hart to and drop kicks the rest)

but that seems to be like, every relationship in here, and usually it takes one party to die (or die several times, yes sqq im looking at you) and many years for the truth to come up. every except moshang? i am yet to read the official extras but from what i remember it went well for them. truly an author of the story, using his godly powers to avoid dying before getting his feelings out there

We always have fics of liaisons onboard the ship, but never how they met/the crew interacting with earth. Gonna have to be multiverse cause otherwise it dont make sense!! I wanted to do holoforms to make things linear, but if i shove it into multiverse maybe they can just not?? lmao??

Earth, Kilocycle 2025 (tentative lmaaoo)

Lost light lands on earth for a quick refuel and sightseeing, (and hope Rodimus doesn't get into shit)

Megatron is rather uncomfortable about this whole thing as he’s been on earth before… and the fact he caused many issues on it.

As they approach earth’s atmosphere, making contact with earth governments and space agencies.

The crew’s excited. 

While the crew only carried Shanix, the governments of different countries are more than happy to start a bidding war over it. Creating a new form of a currency and by consequence, a new stock market over it.

Megatron's plan's are simple, do what they need to do, stay out of trouble.

Of course that never plays out, one thing after another, next thing you know, Rodimus is dragging them to a human concert.

You're a singer/songwriter, and here you are, on the latest tour. Last stop before the leg ends, tired but still very excited. How can you not! Seeing fans come out to support you -some of them even tagging along every city to view you perform.

What you didn't expect to have found at your concert were Cybertronians. It's been decades that Earth has accepted them as an intergalactic species. -The first ones to come in contact with your planet.

Regardless, performing for a different alien species was definitely not part of your bucket list. But! Definitely a welcomed one!

Rodimus only managed to score a few tickets, (he could have gotten more, but venue limits was not very happy about filling in the whole stadium with nothing but bots) (bring ur favorites ig)

While it's not like Cybertronians never had music or performances back on Cybertron, they were totally different from Earth's version. Top it off with millions of years of war, it basically was foreign. Besides, listening to songs for the first time live without prior knowledge is difficult. But not for Megatron. Something about the flow of the lyrics and melody drew him in.

It felt like a poem. A piece of writing animated into life, becoming an artform. One that's being presented in front of his very own optics.

Performance arts. As he was told. And now he understood why.

After the performance, you and your band are catching a break in the backrooms. (Can go several routes, either obsessive!megs rescans your tour bus and takes the form ((i seriously cant see it)) or through ~intergalactic~ powers with the governments or whoever, managed to secure vvip slots and manages to meet you)

You two hit it off. (Romantic or platonic i did not decide!!)

Spending the time Megatron has on earth discussing music, lyrics writing, songwriting, and poetry. You explain that Earth music is a very similar to poetry, Often starts off as that, incorporated into a melody. Or vice versa.

You also explain that Earth has several languages, and you often pull elements from them to combine them into a song.

Hearing this, Megatron was excited. Over the sort time, he's warmed up to you and wanted to share his writings with you, but being more on the reserved side, he didn't want to open himself up like that yet. (Yet you did lmao??) But hearing that you enjoy languages and analyzing works from all different places made him finally sheepishly share some of his writings. (Alternatively crack reader version, you scurry like a fucking raccoon and steal his works, i know i would)

You find his writing absolutely beautiful. Originally having him translate his works from Cybertronian into English, as time restrain never allowed you to learn the language.

You don't tell him, but you're already planning to convert his works into music. (Romantic divergence you write it just for him, platonic you perform it for everyone. Give him royalties!! Shanix is a proper currency now!! You start playing the Shanix market with profit from his share, saving it for next time he comes back.) (honestly even romantic route can be performed live, just when LL comes back again)

Ideally you keep in touch with him even when he's departed Earth and back on LL adventures. (If you want angst, we can make it not lmaoaoo)

You already spend plenty of time studying language and songs of the world, but paid extra attention to Cybertronian after this encounter. Wanting to understand the meeting behind his poems. As Cybertronian, is a complex language, a different system that's extremely versatile and open ended when it comes to context.

Spending time translating, and re-writing his thoughts into English, you eventually dedicate a song (or album if you won the right type of adhd ig)

Years later, the LL returns back (we ignore the fact LL timeline is a mess and has multiple alternate dimensions) and either from him keeping in touch with you, or because he hunted your band down with the ~world wide web~ you two reunite and you perform the song.

Album version would have the whole band performing, but special for this concert, you adjusted the set list to a ballad with only an either guitar/keyboard synth/piano version.

Megatron found the performance to be haunting. Even though he's in the farthest rows, vision isn't an issue for Cybertronians. A simple zoom and he can see everything up close. The way your lips tremble with each vibrato, the way you have your eyes closed as you keep on beat with your hands, even the way your voice nearly cracks and how you're choking back tears in the verses. Raw emotion. Emotion he never knew how to portray during his time as a Decepticon leader. Yet wanted to so badly since the days of a miner. He's finally found peace in his spark of what he meant.

Every verse and chorus was created with his writing. A powerful display of passion strung together from his words. One that his very spark flares to the beat of.

Oh god. I just had an Illario thought. And maybe I'm not the first to have this thought but I haven't seen it around yet.

So, the part that I have seen around: I think it's kind of fair to assume that one of Illario's parents was definitely not Caterina's favorite (and maybe even her least favorite child) which in part leads to her not valuing him. Which is, of course, an inversion of her favoritism for Lucanis being at least in part because she favored his mother.

But what if Illario's other parent was an elf? (or other non-human whose traits disappear when they have children with humans) Then the Dellamorte the Lesser has another awful layer to it. It's not just about him being the disparaged grandson of the (probably very much) not favored child. It's also him not being fully human. Possibly the only grandchild of the family who isn't.

It wouldn't even have to be anti-elven/racist sentiment that encouraged Caterina to look down on Illario. If that elven partner wasn't someone she approved of? It wouldn't matter if they were human or not -- Caterina doesn't really strike me as the kind of person who tolerates it when people defy her in any form. Unless they're Lucanis, of course. And, by extension, probably his mother too.

But say that he is half elven. Then you get stormy self-destructive thoughts of "If I were fully human, maybe she wouldn't have done this to me" and then later, him allying with the Venatori becomes darkly tragic and gives another layer to the self-loathing. Then it's not just about using them to gain power and assert his position as First Talon. No, it becomes about subjugating and stamping down a part of him he is certain is why he's been maligned his entire life.

From Caterina's perspective, assuming her dislike of her child's partner/spouse is from disapproval of the match itself and not racist in origin, Illario is lesser because her child disappointed her over and over again and she's incapable of seeing her grandson as his own person. She can only see him filtered through the lens of her dead, disappointing child.

From Illario's perspective, Caterina heaps praise and her own distant form of love on Lucanis well beyond whatever he receives. He's not as good as Lucanis is at least some things but he's not incapable. And he's better at certain things than Lucanis. He's still a master assassin who has lived to be in his mid-thirties (which is impressive given the profession!). And yet he'll never be good enough for his grandmother. He's no doubt picked at it for years: the differences, the whys.

Why he's not good enough. Why he can never measure up. Why he's treated so differently. Why is he different?

Everyone who's suffered as the scapegoat or otherwise unfavored child wonders at some point: was I born wrong?

And, if Illario's other parent isn't human, well...there's no way he wouldn't have wondered if that's why she treated him so differently.

How could he not?

I had a dream where Knack was somehow pregnant...

This is the second dream I've had with the premise. I'm taking some creative liberties because I had a lot of dreams and my sibling's kitty wouldn't let me write it down straight away.

We were in my grandma's house - which in real life had slowly become a dilapidated shack until it flooded. Here, it resembled how it did in my childhood and teen years.

I remember sitting on a beige recliner pushed to the middle of the room, while Lucas sat opposite to me on the couch. It was night, so the sliding glass door behind him brought no light. Light was delivered from a variety of small sources - the main kitchen light filtered in from the walkway and some peer-over gaps to my left. Grandma's desk at my right housed a lamp whose light allowed me to see Lucas's face. His legs were extended and crossed at his ankles, so I was the only one with my shoes on the ancient brown carpet.

I don't remember if Lucas was telling me about the situation right then, or if we were just chilling, and I was remembering something he had told me earlier, while we were at the Doctor's campus.

He said: Knack doesn't usually eat. Because he just doesn't need to. The most he'll put in his mouth are occasional sweets - hard candies he can crunch up and then brush away later. But lately he started putting real food on his plate at dinner. And he actually eats it! It just disappears. Or, something. Mainly he's been eating a lot of rocks. And some tools have gone missing. He won't tell me anything about it. He's been acting weird. I don't know how to explain it...

Knack was looking around in my grandma's pantry, and if this was a conversation, he would have heard everything. But even though he was six feet tall, he said nothing.

Lucas also said that Knack is typically very small whenever he doesn't have to do anything, but he hasn't been that small in several weeks.

yesterday i was thinking about more scenarios and Situations to put tsuchigomori and nene in.......... i like the idea of like, them working together on something (trying to prevent something bad happening to hanako, maybe?) and kind of finding themselves bonding over time.

and then something happens (time travel/a change in timelines? reality rewriting? idk) and nene suddenly becomes the only one who remembers any of that long period of time. maybe he and everyone else have even forgotten nene's existence entirely. leading to her trying to get him his memories back so they can work together again, etc

I did not euthanise a cat today.

"We want to make an appointment to put our cat down," the owners said on the phone. "He's 18. He was diagnosed with CNI two years ago, we didn't do much about it. He's reached the end of his life."

"He's 18," they said, when we put him on the table and gave him scritches and offered him malt paste because he seemed to lose a lot of hair, and watched him eagerly lick it off my co-worker's fingers. "He won't eat as much, and he vomited three times last night."

"He's 18," they insisted as I examined him and turned up nothing but the hair loss, beginning cataract and slight tenderness upon abdominal palpation, "we'll be away for a few weeks soon and what will we tell the caretaker if he's sick then?"

"He's 18," over and over again, their sole reason to refuse treatment offers, further diagnostics, as I watched him enjoy the attention and malt paste and thought of all those others that would have had a realistic chance at survival, reconvalescence, even, if it hadn't been taken away from them on the sole argument that they're "already old".

They changed. They have special needs. They got sick. They've become a nuisance, a burden some people didn't sign up to bear.

So they jump at the chance to get rid of them.

"It's better for them," they say. "We had some great years together. But now? Now they're old. Look at them."

I do. And they look back. They're still alive. Their problems, sometimes, are manageable. Sometimes they can be cured altogether. I discuss options, treatment plans. Outcomes.

They're old, yes, but we can make it as comfortable for them as possible, right up until the end.

"Don't you see there's nothing to be done?"

Age is not a disease. One of the tenets they drilled into our heads at uni: it might come with many diseases, and one day, likely together or due to those diseases, impact quality of life so much that you have to make a decision, but in itself, it's not a reason.

He's 18, and I refused, and they took him back home again. Angry. Arguing. Adamant there's something that needs to be done about him. And as they left, we all knew they would not stop until they got what they wanted.

I did not euthanise a cat today. And still, he's another one we couldn't save.
