Here’s my take on The Minstrel, one of the BBEGs in the adventure module book by XP to Level 3, the Quest-O-Nomicon. I got it as an add on to their Kickstarter.

Hello I am here to make everyone aware of a DnD liveplay campaign: Evenfall (Arcane Arcade)
I have no idea how I got into the campaign (it was XPtoLV3 :)) but it’s awesome. I DONT see anyone talking about it online or here, I’ve seen a few tesseract and waterdeep posts, and apart from spring forth’s official tarot card art here, that’s about it. The main selling point for me in Evenfall is the really cool character related homebrew they do! It really made each player character distinct both in story progressions and mechanics.
I DONT really know how to put it in words without spoiling it, but I can with visuals! Here’s some FANART!
the starting party consists of Faelan (Bloodhunter), Lelia (Warlock), Kurt (Sorcerer), Stibbles (druid), Phillip (Paladin/Barbarian), and Cor (Wizard)
(Side Note: some art on the episode Playlist contains spoilers, so watch out for that!)

There’s some XP To Level 3 video, I think one of the “gigachad DM” series? I usually like XPTL3 overall, but this one part rubbed me the wrong way. It was a group doing character pitches for a Curse of Strahd campaign, and the last player says he wants to be an Adult Red Dragon. There’s discussion (“do you want to be a cursed/transformed dragon?; No”), but when the rest of the players say that they’re okay with having this party member that will severely alter how they interact with NPCs and greatly overshadow them in combat, the DM goes “okay, fine, if you’re all okay I can make it work”.
And like. I don’t know, I think the “chadlier” response in this case would be to veto. Maybe the bit is that this DM is so crazy good that they can just alter the proposed game to accommodate it without any trouble, but it still bugs me. Regardless of if the other players are fine with it, I think “gigachad” practice in this case would be to stand up for your own enjoyment. You are a player as well, and if you have pitched Curse of Strahd, I’d imagine you’re looking forward to horror vibes and dark perils and whatnot, which are pretty incongruous with a full ass dragon in the party - to say nothing of having to significantly rewrite the module and especially the combat encounters. Bending over backwards and sacrificing your own enjoyment to accommodate one inconsiderate player isn’t gigachad shit actually, IMO.
I’m definitely reading into it too deeply but still.
With regards to this post, I think the people saying "a good DM could make it work" do have answer to the question of "but why would they?" But their answer is, basically, because it's a lot of work.
There are a lot of what I would call "hustle culture DMs," people for whom the amount of work and effort they put into their campaign is intrinsically good, proof of them being good DMs. Doing less work, even if it accomplished an equally good (or better!) end result, would be bad. The point is the grind, that's what proves how good they are.
And like hustle culture bros, they're mostly full of shit, they're not actually doing what they advocate for, and those who are doing it are burning themselves out for absolutely nobody's benefit. You should treat people telling you that "a good DM could make it work" the same way you treat people telling you to sleep four hours a day so you can focus on your side hustles.

RPG players who recently started playing systems besides DnD 5e have similar behavior to new atheist teenagers. Especially if the only other system they've played is Pathfinder. Annoying sense of confident superiority.
The only major distinction is that spirituality is really complicated, and you'll be disappointed in your pursuit for true answers while playing systems besides 5e is 100% correct. You just can't replace 5e with only one other system (if your repitoire of distinct rpgs ranges from 5e to PF, you're just a diet 5e loyalist).

Hey, remember when DreamWorks did this for all their Netflix shows? Trollhunters did it, She-Ra did it, Voltron did it; I'm surprised that Kipo didn't do it.

This guy is called the Othkotha, a boss monster from the Quest-o-Nomicon, a collection of adventure modules that was worked on by the folks behind the group XP to Level 3. I got this miniature and several others by buying into it during their kickstarter a few years back.

the fact that I might hit level 10 (or at least be very, very, very close to it) before I even make it to act 3 is wild. They really could have made the level cap on this game higher. I hate that every single boss fight in act 3 is set for the same level, meaning you basically stall and there's no more progression (aside from new items) for most of act 3.
I mean, imagine if in a dnd game, you spent 1/6th or more of the whole campaign at the same level. Even if that level was 20, it would feel stale after a while, and bg3 doesn't even get close to 20.
They could easily have gotten us to level 14 or 15 with the amount of content in the game. I know some people argue that "oh, well, balancing high-level encounters is hard" or "they didn't want to implement 7th level spells", and like, I kind of get it. But at the same time, they had years to work on this game. Plus, it's a game. I feel like balancing for a video game, where there's only set coded possibilities of what the players can do (minus glitches and exploits, ofc) is easier than DMing a real game and trying to predict every possible outcome under the sun.
Maybe I'm wrong about that, but even if I am, it's not like Larian's never done it before. Characters in D:OS and D:OS2 get up to level 20. And while those aren't ttrpg recreations, the issue of balancing high-level encounters remains the same. And ofc, not Larian's doing, but there's P:WotR which managed to not only balance for 20 character levels, but also the 10 mythic levels and the insanely busted shit that can come out of that. (Plus, Pathfinder in general is a more "the characters are over-powered" kind of game in general, at least compared to 5e. Not a bad thing, just a difference in game design.)
