"Oh Manager, you're also here?" AJ had greeted, a look of mild surprise on their face.

"AJ? What are you doing here?" Wise asked, confused at the rabbit thiren's appearance. Especially since they typically made it a habit of not coming to large gatherings.

"Well I was curious of the competition!" They exclaimed, eyes shining as they thought about the bangboo competitors. "Seeing so many cute bangboos acting even more cute? How could I not see that?!"

"Right..."

"I was actually considering entering my children into it, but by the time I realized it was happening it was too late." They sighed, shaking their head at their own mistake. "But eh, it is what it is."

After a moment, the thiren realized the third person there. "Oh! Sorry, didn't realize. A friend of theirs as well?"

"Yes!" Astra greeted, nodding her head excitedly. "It's amazing how many friends these two have."

"Yeah, somehow I'm not surprised they've made friends with a celebrity like you." They replied back, smiling innocently as the three freeze. "Sorry, you're not exactly hiding it well. I won't say anything though."

"Well, we were gonna actually scope out our next opponent." Belle said, gesturing to somewhere else within the lobby to quickly change the topic.

"Really? Can I come with?" AJ asked, tilting their head as they watched the trio look at each other. But it was Astra that spoke up first.

"Sure!" She smiled, already grabbing their hand to bring them along towards the alone bangboo. Though only the proxy siblings noticed the rabbit thiren quickly becoming tense when they saw the charmingly dressed machine.

They hardly paid attention to what the group was saying now, their thoughts swirling as they tried to come up with a quick excuse to leave. They couldn't stay, knowing a certain someone was most likely around the corner. But just as they opened their mouth to speak, a sudden hand patting their shoulder made them freeze.

"My, I didn't expect to see a familiar face." An all too familiar voice said, followed by a humored chuckle as the owner of said voice watched them quickly turn. He only offers them a smile before glancing back at the other three. "Robin, do you know who these others are?"

"No, can only assume they're the little Miss's friends." The bangboo replied, barely giving them a glance as well. Instead it only looked up expectantly, as if waiting for praise or affection from AJ.

"I would say they're also our next opponents." The blond mansuggests, earning a noise of surprise from his bangboo companion.

"Eh-na?!"

AJ could barely listen to the conversation again, too engrossed in their thoughts. Though they could tell the vampir man was standing extremely close to them, something they knew was purposeful. It wasn't until they heard him asking to look at Astra microphone, did they speak up. "A-Ah that wouldn't be a good idea, he's uh...he's extremely clumsy!"

"Oh don't be like that." The man fake whined, leaning down to give them a pout. But they could see the challenge in his eyes, daring them to try to stop him. "I know I used to break your things sometimes, but that was years ago."

"It wouldn't be any harm." Astra muttered, barely thinking it over before handing her device to him. It was only when he gave it back after some inspecting that AJ relaxed slightly, though they tensed once more as the blond man placed a hand back on their shoulder.

"I shall take my leave. But for you, Little Miss, I hope to see you again in the future." He gave them a more genuine looking smile, though it held so many emotions they couldn't quite decipher. "And your lover as well."

So their name is going to be “Nanon” (true name unknown)

But their other aliases are “Nanon the faceless” “Nanon the Mimick” and other ones when I come up with them

They’ll be Captain of the Masked Pirates (the crew wears varying degrees of face coverings)

And I think they’ll be a “Robin Hood” type of pirate (steal from the rich (other pirates, corrupt villages, the Marines) and give to the poor (themselves, struggling villages, pirates that are struggling))

Like they’d definitely steal from Arlong Park and give most of it to Cocoyasi village. (The village Nami is from)

I think their mask would be like my main sona’s but with a split in the middle of it so they could eat and drink without taking it off. (Very few members of the Masked Pirates know what they actually look like.)

Author Spotlight: Maurene Goo

Funny books have a special place in my heart. Sometimes that is the only kind of book that will do for me - especially when things in the world seem grim. Luckily, Maurene Goo exists and keeps writing books to make us laugh. Warning - sometimes cringing is also required. Her characters can get into some embarrassing situations.

When I had the chance to go see Maurene during the Fierce Reads Tour, I was super excited. In person, she had the audience smiling and laughing too. She also had some more serious comments, but the woman is funny. In the times we're living in, humor is a way to relax and I appreciate her novels for bringing comedy to us.

I also have to thank or blame her for luring me into the world of K-drama. After reading I Believe in a Thing Called Love, I watched my first K-drama. I'm hooked. Dramas are also providing much laughter along with plenty of tears.

If you haven't tried her books, I recommend you give them a shot. Check out the reviews linked below to find out more about each one. Or, go ahead and judge her books by their covers. They look fabulous right?

I agree with about... 80% of this post. Yes, disabilities need a wider variety of representation. Chronic pain, injuries, things being discovered about a person, and the like are hugely important, and showing heroes having bad days and therapy that is ACTUALLY BENEFICIAL (Heroes In Crisis my beloathed...) is a good thing. And yes, it doesn't have to be all or nothing.

But.

I would like to add that Barbara not being able to walk should NEVER be changed. The developments she had thanks to Kim Yale and John Ostrander relating to how she grew and became the premiere infojack she truly was is incredible, and giving her back her mobility would be a massive step back and disservice to that. And making her Batgirl again in any capacity is similarly disrespectful. You wouldn't make Jason Todd Robin again after all the development he went through, right?

That being said, if someone else became disabled in that capacity (can hero a little bit but often can't due to their disability) would be great! Just ask Charlotte Webber over at Marvel! An official spider-sona with exactly what you seek!

Just throwing my two cents in before my lunch break is over.

You know…thinking about this ask and the headcanon about AK!Jason having chronic pain and mobility issues…

Something that I really wish more media (not just comics) got about disabilities is that there are a lot more options than just “disabled, can’t do (x) ever again.”

Like, take for example, Barbara Gordon. Personally (and this is 100% personal), I’m actually totally okay with her being able to walk again. I’m even okay with her Batgirl-ing again.

HOWEVER! I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE THE “CURE” TREATED LIKE A MOBILITY AID.

For example—sure, maybe Barbara can go out Batgirl-ing a couple of nights a week…but she needs time to recover and after those nights she uses the wheelchair during the day.

OR! She tends to forego her wheelchair during the day BUT because of that she’s drained for nights and so she uses her wheelchair and sticks with Oracle.

OR! Sometimes she just uses her wheelchair because it feels right for the time and she doesn’t want to second-guess her instincts when it comes to her own health!

Just…it doesn’t have to be “all or nothing”!

And like, to keep talking about the Batfamily, that goes for every hero! Sure, PEAK HUMAN CONDITION when they’re in their suits…but there’s nothing in the rulebook that says they have to be in that zone literally all the time!

And, not to be a buzzkill, but we know the effects of long-term high impact trauma to human bodies and it’s…not great! Not saying that you’d have to go full realism, but you could show some consequences of the work they do!

One of the moments that stuck with me from The Dark Knight Rises was when Bruce Wayne had to wear a knee-brace because of his Batman exploits.

And, sure, the movie almost immediately undid his disability (because of course it did ಠ_ಠ) but it was nice to see a superhero with, like…an actual human body? That was dealing with the effects of time and consequences and the inherent imperfection of a human body?

But like…computer-based characters wearing braces to treat/prevent wrist strain! Bruce Wayne using an orthopedic cane during the day to take some strain off of his body and to make sure he’s in peak condition for his night work!

Characters doing physical therapy exercises as an everyday thing because that’s how they can do their night work!

And, especially since there are so many friggin heroes in Gotham—characters having bad days/nights and needing downtime!

Anyway, hopefully this made some kind of sense. I guess I’m just frustrated with the narrow-minded concept that disabilities are either 1) something you’re born with, or 2) something that can only happen from one DRAMATIC EVENT!!!

And also, I guess, with the concept that doing classic superheroics is incompatible with being disabled—which, IMO, is just an easy way to get out of showing heroes with disabilities.

Animaz/ement, My Weekend and Overall Thoughts.

under the cut bc god knows how long. i’m gonna go into details about my whole ass weekend. 

Thursday Precon:

This was pretty simple, I got there at around 8:30 to get my tickets with my friend, I wore my blake belladonna cosplay because i wanted to make sure that i could wear everything comfortably. overall the night was fun, a few people took pictures of and with me--that was nice! But that was pretty much all that Thursday had to bring me. 

Friday: 

I wore blake again this day, and from the start i got quite a few pictures taken of me ( i think i might also be in a video? i’m not 100% sure but if i am that’s super cool!! ) thank god for guidebook because i had my whole ass weekend planned out. the first thing on my personal agenda was mario kart with e jason liebrecht, which was hilarious. ( spoilers, he’s not the best at mario kart but he was having a lot of fun and that’s all that matters ). i was one of the first people to play the game and i got a fist bump from him which was uber cool. 

after the panel, i scoped out the artist alley for a m!robin / grima print to get signed for the bf, it took a lot of looking but i found one that was perfect to get signed by david vincent. i got her autograph myself last year when he came, so i didn’t need one for myself this year. vincent was over an hour late to the signing, but i was dedicated to get this autograph--so i waited it out. i heard he was late because he was working out? idk lol. but i got the autograph! nice. 

moving on, it was time to scope out the dealers room before i went to a q&a for david vincent. my first look around i didn’t see much that caught my eye but i did find an azura keychain from fire emblem, and i did a mimikyu lottery and got a cute little plate! the q&a was really fun, not much to really note from this. it was just a really enjoyable experience. well, i did find out that he (just as most all blaz/blue voice artists) is hoping for the english dub of bb/cf especially with cross tag getting a dub. 

i went back to the dealers room after and found a saber nero figure, and of course i bought that because she’s my favorite saber. and i bought some 2b and 9s keychains! i’m giving the 9s to my boyfriend so we match. after this i met up with my friend in the game room and we were there for a bit, my feet felt like they were on fire by this point so i headed home after this. ‘

Saturday:

The day i was most excited for. I was dressed up as zero two from darling in the franxx this day! a few people took pictures of me and got a lot of comments about zero two being waifu for laifu, which is True. the first panel i went to was a panel for tomohiko ito panel, where he talked about the new s/ao movie. i found out some things about it i never knew and it made me want to watch the movie again. along with some neat trivia. after the panel he had an autograph session, and i thankfully was able to get his autograph. he drew a little kirito and asuna with his signature it was very cute. 

After this, i looked around the dealers room for a bit only to find nothing--and then i went to wait in line for the liebrecht and elizabeth maxwell autograph session. this was hell cause i waited over two hours but it was honestly well worth it. liebrecht even remembered me from mario kart yesterday even though i was in a different cosplay! it made me really happy. due to all the waiting the signing was moved into the dealers room, so i decided to take another look around and was able to find a yuna figure from ordinal scale. she was the only one i saw and i jumped at the sight. 

Then came the david vincent voice acting tryouts panel. this was a lot of fun! i wasn’t able to participate, but learning voice about voice acting and voice overs made me want to try to do it myself. i’m gonna try to make my own demo reel and look into things for the future. There’s not much to really say about this panel though! 

After that, was probably one of my favorite panels. a cards against humanity panel with a large set of voice actors. the entire panel was hilarious! probably the funniest thing i’ve ever been to. and! it was my first 18+ panel! when the panel ended i was able to get a pciture with liebrecht and it was great. my bud wanted to stay for the jojo panel so i went to another ( hilarious ) 18+ panel with derek stephen price, i can’t really go into the details about the panel but man, was it funny. 

and that wraps it up for saturday. 

Sunday: 

the last day of con, i was futaba from per/sona 5. there wasn’t many things i really wanted to do this day. i got the autograph of Shinichirō Watanabe and that was a pretty big highlight. i looked around the dealers room and artist alley again but nothing really jumped at me. but i did go to another panel! this was a q&a centered around voice acting that david vincent had. it was pretty insightful and really only made me wanna try voice acting even more. ( yes i’m aware it’s hard, but if you don’t try you won’t go anywhere yaknow? )

and that was pretty much all that really happened that day? it was still fun, but pretty lax compared to the previous two days. 

Overall I really enjoyed the convention, this is probably my second favorite time being at animaz/ement. nothing can really top the 2016 con though, simply because i was able to meet some of my best friends irl for the first time. But this year was a whole lot of fun, and i really look forward to next year.

You have so many OC's, can I ask you where you get your inspiration from?

I base most of my characters on myself but I also get a lot of inspiration from real life people and fictional characters as well. I have a few OCs that are almost exactly like the person I based them on and then I have ones that were originally meant to be like xyz person/character but ended up being so different that you couldn’t even be able tell who they’re based on XD

Alcyone: Her personality is very much based on myself. Her looks were inspired by Chiyuki from Death Parade (and myself too lol) Allie is pretty much a better sona X’D

Feit: His personality is also heavily based on myself and his looks are what I wanted to look like a few years ago haha Tunnels and snake bites (still want them tho) His backstory is what happened to an old friend of mine..

Dominik: At first he was just the bad guy and nothing else but over time he grew to become more like my bad personality traits combined yikes. OCs like Nevio and Negan also represent the not-so-nice-sides of me. (I named Negan after Negan from The Walking Dead, yes that was my original inspo lmao)

Eric: Is kind of based on a guy my mother was dating for many years. He was a … difficult person. He had a lot of personal issues that took a toll on their relationship.

Maureen: She is literally someone I used to be friends with. I straight up turned this person into an OC haha From appearance, personality, likes and hobbies to self-harm methods they are the exact same. I kind of used Maureen for coping when the unhealthy friendship with this person ended.

Rue: I won’t go in depth but she kind of represents me as a kid/young teenager and things from my past.

Robin: Was pretty much inspired by my crush my friend Jay. Appearance, personality and sexual preferences

21. Your most artistic OC

Not counting the various singer OCs, I’m gonna go with the obvious one and say Nio in Chrisis. She is a personification of my creativity, after all!

22. Is there any OC of yours people tend to mischaracterize? If yes, how?

In all honesty I can see people getting Ruby Raleigh (DOTS:DD) wrong. She does seem like the typical anime protag (well, maybe she kinda is ^^;) but I feel like she’s not as... annoying, per say. I feel like she’s always had some sort of heroism in her this whole time that she’s never noticed before, but seems covered by the “gluttonous punk rocker” sona she has.

23. Introduce OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what the character would be like?

I actually may or may not be posting about this later in the evening ^^;

24. If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?

I’m sorry I love Cobalt too much, but I wanna say him. I wanna give him a big hug.

25. The OC that resembles you the most (same hobby, height, shared like/dislike for something etc?)

...Tigerlily, aha- We’re both short, have short hair, pretty gay, and honestly pretty useless. And we’ve both done bad things and felt those bad things, but I want to change Tig to be a positive character, so I can be positive too! We’re also both very picky eaters, whoops-

26. Have you ever had to change your OC’s design or something else about them against your will?

Emphasis on against my will. I changed a bunch of my OCs from a previous time into the DOTS characters everyone knows now because I was afraid from all the backlash I had recieved from them, especially from someone I don’t like talking about now.

Although it was a tragedy to scrap something so dear to me, I made not one, but TWO different stories because of that!

27. Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song?

First off, Yang Blake (DOTS: DD) was based off of Bulletproof Heart by My Chemical Romance! I was pretty blank on his personality at first, but the second I heard Bulletproof Heart while making his character he just sorta ended up as an embodiement of that song! I can never actually talk about Yang’s personality without mentioning the song!

This next one’s pretty recent actually! I haven’t drawn her digitally yet, but the song Valiant Heart by Nyxtheshield featuring Melodiva inspired my OC Princess Orlene from Dragon Destiny! I imagined the song to be her singing to Storm Gray, another character in the story, and I ended up getting the sweet and calm and flowing voice as inspiration for Orlene’s personality! I had already made her basic concept and design, but the song definitely helped with her personality.

28. Your most dangerous OC?

First off without spoilers, Ater from DOTS: DD. She’s never actually meant to be a main villain during DOTS: DD, but in all honesty she’s the most dangerous that I can actually say.

Going off of non-spoilery territory... - Dark from Last Light! He’s the unofficial “king” of the Darksiders in the story, he’s manipulative and will get EXTREMELY enraged when something doesn’t go his way. Did I mention he’s like part butterfly monster? Yeah. - Ringo from PSG! Although he’s an anime parody character, he’s solely meant to become bloodlusty in the story, nearly wiping out all his friends with the exception of Momo, who isn’t present during said scene - Ventus from AuAg. He’s not particularly evil, though a bit lacking on morals and therefore ending up with The “King of Switchblade Fights” title. If he puts his all into a fight, you’re either dead or about to be sent on a very urgent hospital trip.

29. Which one of your OCs would go investigate an abandoned house at night without telling anyone they’re going?

Zephyr from Sky Games is the ONE that comes into my head. I admit he’s technically a game character model, but he’s less talk and more action. Also he acts typically emo without even wearing black. Weird.

30. Which one of your OCs would most likely have a secret stuffed animal collection?

Rose Morganite from DOTS: DD and Nimbus Fulmen from AuAg. Both are sweet kids that honestly get put through too much to handle at their age, emphasis on Sweet. Nimbus is sorta akin to Steven in SU which is why I imagine him to love them, Rose just happens to love stuffed animals since she’s honestly a bit more childish 

31. Pick one OC of yours and explain what their tumblr blog would be like (what they reblog, layout, anything really)

These two sounded the most funny to me so here ya go:

Ruby (DOTS: DD) reblogs a bunch of neon lights and rock bandom things, she’s probably obsessed with red/black color schemes so anything with that too. Also maybe even a sword or two, can’t go wrong with some cool-looking weaponry!

Ventus (AuAg) is... so terribly edgy tbh. He reblogs a buncha lyrics to the song “Lights Out” by MSI (PUNCH YA LIGHTS OUT, HIT THE PAVEMENT, THAT’S WHAT I CALL ENTERTAINMENT), knives, knives, more knives, that kinda shit. But also he’d reblog soap carving videos until he reaches post limit. He’s honestly not in love with killing 24/7; the guy just loves knives

32. Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonist and why?

Erin from Beyond Repair. She’s already mostly alone throughout the story, which already in itself seems on the border of horror. Also she reacts to things much less, she’s not really afraid of anything so it’d just be the video that goes “In the name of the father, the son, and holy spirit, fuck off please”

33. Your shyest OC?

Rose Morganite from DOTS: DD, definitely. As youngest of the paladins, especially of a pink soul, she’s overall shy around adults and other people. She likes being alone if she can, but rather than Tig’s crippling social anxiety she’s more of a shy kid than anything else.

I’ve talked about the paladins before, and the meme says an OC and not a whole race, sooo-

Storm and Chai are half dragons! Though the dragons are more based off of wolves since I suck at lizards right now O_O; whoopsie. They’re part of a science experiment, so they’re only two people out of a semi-big population of half-dragons. I drew Chai and his dragon form last night! 

38. Which one of your OCs would be the best dancer?

I want to say Yang from DOTS: DD since he’s the one I jokingly said took ballet at one point in his life. Also I say jokingly because the dude was obsessed with rap music as a kid which probably doesn’t go too well with ballet. Aka kiddo Yang is based off of Abridged Jaden Yuki

39. Introduce any character you want

This is Omega!Nature. He’s a nature fairy from A Story Told and 100% done with everyone’s shit. He really hates humans but hangs out with two of them because he failed at doing a Fairy(tm) Prank on them. He’s an asshole and it’s charming because he looks like Tinkerbell’s emo phase mixed with the Onceler with the voice of Fidget from Dust: An Elysian Tail. 

40. Any fond memories linked to your characters? Feel free to share!

I have very fond memories with Blake, Ruby, Cobalt, and Tigerlily from DOTS: DD, because they were my first original four characters I made back in 5th grade from a story I ended up continuing till this day! They had a lot of name changes, their first names have been Jaden, Jade, Chris, and Onishi, in that order. Because they’re my most developed four OCs, I have fond memories of seeing them grow into the characters they are now. Even if Blake somehow kept getting scrapped them coming back as an entirely new character. Huh.
